"A decisão de sair de Primeiro-Ministro foi um ato de vontade. Vontade de regressar à minha atividade profissional, com a consciência tranquila de ter cumprido o melhor que soube e pude, durante 3 anos full-time, o 'serviço cívico' na política". O líder do PSD explica ainda a sua relação difícil com Diogo Freitas do Amaral (vice-Primeiro-Ministro) e a traição de Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, assumindo que os partidos políticos "são máquinas trituradoras".
Por fim, Balsemão reconhece que a sua vocação "foi e será sempre os media, a liberdade de expressão, a relação entre a comunicação social e a democracia".
