Im Podcast »Moreno+1« beschreibt Maxim Leo in welches moralische Dilemma sich eine Gesellschaft hinein manövriert, wenn ein Lebensalter von 120, 150 oder noch mehr Jahren die Regel ist. Ein realistisches Szenario: »Es gibt die Optimisten unter den Wissenschaftlern, die sagen, dass es nur noch zehn Jahre dauern wird, bis wir so einen Durchbruch haben werden. Die Pessimisten sagen, es wird noch 50 Jahre dauern – von 200 Jahren spricht keiner. Kaum jemand bezweifelt, dass es möglich sein wird, das Leben der Menschen medizinisch enorm zu verlängern«, so Leo.
Maxim Leo hat mehrere Bestseller geschrieben. Für sein autobiografisches Werk »Haltet Euer Herz bereit« erhielt er 2011 den Europäischen Buchpreis, sein letztes Buch »Frankie«, das er zusammen mit Jochen-Martin Gutsch schrieb, stand über Wochen auf den Bestsellerlisten. In seinem neuen Roman »Wir werden jung sein« beschäftigt sich Leo mit einer Frage, die zu den ältesten der Menschheitsgeschichte gehört: »Wie wäre es, wenn wir für immer jung bleiben könnten?«
Auslöser war ein Artikel über Fortschritte in der sogenannten Longevity-Forschung. Ein Forschungsfeld, in das seit geraumer Zeit immer mehr Geld fließt. Schon heute lässt sich mittels neuer Forschungsergebnisse die Lebensspanne von Mäusen um rund 40 Prozent verlängern.
