Nos últimos meses tem-se falado muito de política nacional e internacional e pouco de banca, de empresas e de financiamento concreto. Durante muitos anos, o Banco Português de Fomento esteve praticamente inoperacional e disfuncional. Finalmente parece ter começado a desempenhar o papel para o qual foi criado, isto é, ajudar de facto no financiamento da economia real. Não só os empréstimos diretos começaram agora a ganhar volume, como o Banco Portugês de Fomento criou instrumentos de garantia que permitem às empresas ir à banca buscar até 6,5 mil milhões de euros de empréstimos, com taxas de juro mais favoráveis. A instituição vai também começar a disponibilizar seguros de crédito à produção e à exportação, apoiar a construção de habitação a custos controlados, financiar os grandes projetos de alta velocidade ferroviária e ainda está a liderar a candidatura de Sines a uma gigantesca fábrica de inteligência artificial.
