Apesar da instabilidade dos mercados financeiros internacionais, e das dúvidas sobre a sustentabilidade da economia portuguesa em cenário de quase estagnação na Europa, o Governo mantém na agenda um mega pacote de obras faraónicas. E a obra que vai ficar mais cara ao país é precisamente a da construção de uma nova rede de alta velocidade ferroviária. Serão 20 a 25 mil milhões de euros a preços correntes a pagar pelos contribuintes portugueses em rendas de Parcerias Público-Privadas até ao fim da concessão por 30 anos. Não só os contribuintes vão ter de pagar a quase totalidade da fatura nas rendas anuais das PPP, como o resultado será uma obra de duvidosa utilidade, porque não permitirá o aceso direto de comboios de passageiros e mercadorias à rede europeia nem a entrada direta dos europeus em Portugal. Além dos evidentes erros estratégicos, económicos e financeiros, ficam no ar fortes suspeitas de favorecimento e de forte capacidade de influência de grandes grupos nacionais sobre os sucessivos governos.
