A alta velocidade ferroviária em Portugal, que está a ser construída em bitola ibérica do século XIX e é só para passageiros, excluindo transporte de mercadorias, vai assim custar mais de 20 mil milhões de euros aos portugueses, quando em Espanha a rede de alta velocidade foi paga na maior parte por fundos europeus. O Orçamento do Estado para o ano que vem prevê uma multiplicação por dez do valor a pagar pelos contribuintes em parcerias público privadas ferroviárias. Esta despesa vai aumentar de 23 para 230 milhões de euros por causa do pagamento anual ao consórcio vencedor do primeiro troço de alta velocidade Porto-Oiã, liderado pela Mota-Engil. Henrique Neto, (empresário, investidor, foi deputado e candidato à Presidência da República; subscreveu o manifesto Portugal transformado numa ilha ferroviária) Fernando Santos e Silva (engenheiro do Instituto Superior Técnico, especialista em sistemas de transportes, também subscritor do mesmo manifesto) e Paulo Morais (presidente da associação Frente Cívica, autor de livros sobre combate à corrupção, foi também candidato à Presidência da República) são os convidados de José Gomes Ferreira na versão podcast do programa Negócios da Semana, emitido na SIC Notícias a 29 de outubro.
