Speaker 1 (00:00):
Command this family.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Welcome into next man up, but a special next man
up because we have another resigning Jeremy McNichols end up
building a boy k fresh.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Just put me in the paper.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
First things first, congratulations you yes, sir, man, I know
you got to be feeling good, man, tell us how
you're feeling right now? Because you're journeying in the NFL.
It's not been an easy one. It's been a proven journey.
You came here last year and you proved it. Now
you're reaping those rewards. Man, how you feeling?

Speaker 1 (00:24):
I felt great, man, just being able to have opportunity
just to be on a team, just to live live
my childhood dream out. You know, these moments never get old,
you know, even going into your nine and they never
get old. You know, it felt like just being drafted again.
You know, it's just like dang, a new team, a
new season, new players, you know, same team though, but

(00:47):
it's just it's just excited. It's exciting, man, just full
of joy.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
When you came here last year, did you really know
what to expect? I mean, man, you had a magical season,
to say the least, like this whole team did. Did
you have any idea that that was gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I mean I can only imagine, you know. I just
I just hang my hat on the work that I
put in up until that point. So whenever the opportunity
was gonna that was gonna be there or was it
going to be there, I was gonna be ready for it.
So I don't know what that looked like, or how
that looked if it was running back, if it was teams,

(01:22):
what role it will be. I don't know. Only thing
I could control is the work that I put in
you know, off season, OTA's and camp, and then everything
else just falls where it may.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
And when you pulled up, there was some familiarity because
of you and Anthony Lynn's relationship.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Talk about that a little.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Bit and what Anthony Lynn has been able to do
for this team because you see him walking around. I
mean it's crazy to think, man, that is a former
NFL head coach and he's here helping y'all get better. Man,
what has Anthony Lynn been like in that running back room?

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah? Man, Like you said, he's a former head coach,
he's a former player, so he you know, he's able
to see the game like we see it, and he's
able to see it as a coach, so we get
two perspectives from it. Just him walking around and just
having that football knowledge. That's what it's about. You know,
he can help every single position. And then in the
running back room, we're always going to be prepared. We're

(02:09):
always prepared every single week, every single practice, and it's
just great to have him around.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Echold will always being prepared. Well, this show is called
next Man Up, and you exemplified that.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
All season long.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
How do you stay mentally and ready to PREPICTU Everybody's different, right,
everybody has a different way that they stay ready.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
With you.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Man, when your number was called, it seemed like every
time you rose to the occasion.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I know that can't be easy, man, it just became happy. Honestly,
Like I remember in my rookie year, Man, I was
on practice squad. I mean like first three years I
was on practice squad, four years practice squad. It just
come down to, Man, I forget what coach told me,
but he was just like, man, no matter what if
you whatever, whatever status you on right now, just make

(02:50):
sure you prepare because the last thing you want to
do is be out there and you don't know what's
going on. You know, I didn't know how the NFL
worked early on. You know, if you get a call,
you gotta play that for that week, I thought it
was kind of just like a red shirt my rookie year,
you know, coming out of coming like okay, I'm not
on the feed d I'm not playing. But he was like,
take these reps like game reps and practice like this

(03:11):
is your game day. You know when we're in these meetings,
I'm talking to you too. I'm not just talking to
the starter or the backup that's play. I'm talking to
you too. So I always took that to heart. I'm like,
damn okay. And then one game I got called up.
It was on a Friday, and and coaches like, I
told you just be ready. It's week ten. You was
on price called week ten. You finally got your call, man,

(03:33):
just just And so I always kept that mindset, just
being like, man, I don't want to be unprepared. So
I'd rather do more that week, or I'll rather train
harder in the offseason. So when the game coming, where
that moment comes, fourth quarter, you know it's game on
the line, Like Okay, I've already been here before I
can go out there and play with poise, play calm,
and so just being raised is what I always hung

(03:56):
my head on.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
And it's easier sit than done right because I mean,
you're very confident. Man, you're an NFL player. When you're
getting cut, when you're going on practice squads, man, that
has to build a little chip on your shoulder. Man,
do you do you carry a chip on your shoulder?

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Like approve it type deal? For sure, it's not even improved,
it's not even improved, but definitely a chip on my shoulder.
Like I remember every team that cuts me, you know,
I remember every team like I remember all those different
type of things. Just just to keep that edge that
I just to keep that edge that I play with
every single day or practice with every single day, Like
you know, like, hey, then they cut you on Sunday,
So what you're gonna go?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Do?

Speaker 1 (04:29):
You know? I'm playing games with myself in my mind
just to get me going like yeah, you're right, like
you got to go show up this week. So that's
that's where I'm met with it.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Man.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Just just staying ready.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
It's crazy those things we have to do to stay
ready and stay motivated. But now you're in a situation
now where you got a team that kept you yeah
and wanted your back, and now you're here now, So
where are you going to get that motivation from now?
Because you're looking at all those other teams. I forgot
about you. But now you're in a place that loves you,
that honors you, that wants you to be here.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
So how does that mentality change now? I'm even more
hungry because I want to. I want to I want
to know. I want them to know that they was
right making this decision. So in this city is right.
So I work harder, you know, just because you get
to the my outside, like, how how far can I
really push this thing? How much work can I really
put in? You know, I don't want to let my
teammates or my coaches down, or the city down. You know,

(05:20):
we have a great team, and I just looked to
the right and the left of me. I'm like, man,
these guys put in work too, Like I can't let
my guys down. So that's that's my motivation this year.
You know, I want to make sure that we go
out there every single Sunday and put our best foot forward.
And you know, whatever role is going to be there,
whatever leadership roles. You know, I'll be there for it,
and it's got to be a benefit.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Fore you got offensive guys Like I was talking to
Zach Ertzy he was mentioned how Kingsbury this is the
second time being in the same offensive system. Yeah, that's
not always normal, man, Some guys are in a different
system each and every year. You're a little familiar with that.
Now that you get to be in this system again, Man,
how optimistic are you? How much are you looking forward
to the future of this offense, getting able to run
it back with amost all the same guys.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, you know, Clifford, you know, our whole staff. Ye know,
just I know they in there cooking right now, just
with the time, you know, just and they're like, man,
we got a foundation. I think a lot of it was,
you know, just the base, let's let's install, let's you know,
let's help the guys play faster. But just adding on
top of that foundation, you know, just the whole off
season with the same coaching staff, the same crew, you know,

(06:24):
just just being able to build and I just think
we could take this as far as we want to
take it. But it takes work. You know, It's just
we're not going to just wake up and be like, hey,
we could just hang our hat on last year like
last year's last year, it's a whole new season, whole
new coaches, whole new schedule. You know, everything is brand new.
So we just got to continue to put the work
in and you know, set our goals and try and

(06:46):
sore as high as we can.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
What was the coolest thing about the season to me
last year watching this offense was the way y'all rallied
behind Jayden Gains.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
That's a rookie quarterback.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
That's a guy that hasn't done much in this league yet,
but y'all treated him like he was a veteran, like
he will the leader man, and it looked great doing it.
Talk about Jaden Daniels in that huddle, what you've seen
from him in this locker room that makes him such
a special quarterback man.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
His poise, his confidence, silent assassin. You know, he's not
gonna say too much, but when you see them that
looking as I remember just just that Bengals game when
it was down there like four minutes left and it
was fourth down and he's like, no, like let's go
get this. You got to court. Well, you got a QB.
With that confidence, everybody else is just gonna spread, you know,

(07:30):
and just rallying behind him because we could believe in him.
He got the talent, he got the leadership. You know,
you know what he can do on that field, and
he proves it, you know, in the classroom, showing up early,
in the weight room, locker room, on the field obviously,
you know. So it's just easy to rally around a
guy like that.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
And the fans really rallied around him, around all you gots. Yeah,
one thing you've been hearing it. I talked to Will
Harris yesterday and he's like, man, I've never seen a
fan base like this, like stuck on the field, and
this fan base is level. Talk about this fan base
a little bit, because man, you went to Boys State.
You've seen some of the best fans in the world,
right and now you're here, man, talk about this fan
base for the Berkeley and.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Coach Man, it's it's great. I Mean when I first
got here, all I did was here about it, like
you know this this this city's been been hungry for
wins and for a championship, and you know, it's a
football town, you know, and there's so much history here,
but anywhere anywhere we go or you go, it's just
commanders or you know, you can see how excited they

(08:26):
are for this season coming up so and how much
they gonna support and show love to us. So it
just makes it so much easier to play when you
know them, when you know your fans about to be
in your colors, and just seeing them on the road
was just like wow, Like we got tim k and
you know in Tampa, we we got our whole sideline,
you know, So we feed off of that energy. So

(08:47):
you know, y'all come out and keep support. Y'll promise
you we're gonna work as hard as we can every
single day, and the fans love that.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Man, So I'm gonna let you go because you've got
to go on a beat somewhere, man, Man celebrate, give
a message to the fans on what they can expect
from this offense coming into this ship.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Man, you just gonna see a high efficient playing extremely hard,
playing for each other and just playing to win physical
as possible, and we're gonna be trying to fly around
that field and score a lot of points.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Jeremy Man, we appreciate your time, brother Man Again, Congratulations man,
we love having you here.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
I can't wait to see what you do again.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Somebody that exemplifies that next man up mentality, Jeremy, congratulations,
but appreciate you command this family, our next man up.
Run it back, Jeremy McNicholas, He back, Davy

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
