Then you have a legend pull up wide receiver Pierre
garf Saw and pulls up and talks to us about
these nast rivalry games and.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
His favorite memories and to Bergerley and Bolts, all that
and more right now on Next Man Up. Command is Family.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
For our Next Man Up, we have one of your
favorite commanders, one of my favorite commander is all pro Revo.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
That's what y'all call. Welcome and Jeremy Reevee brothers are
you doing man?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Man good man, appreciate you having me all always, but
it's always a blessing.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Man.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
I appreciate you taking the time, man, because what a
season y'all having. Bro, you are rolling, man, you look
like you're having a good time. Before we get into
all of that. Man, the last time you actually like spoke,
he was coming into the office and you was telling me, hey, man,
I'm headed home for a little bit. You know, I'm
gonna go rehab my ACL and you was leaving out
the building. Let's go back there, man, because in that moment,
this season right here isn't even promise. Sh it, we
(01:08):
don't know what's coming out of that. Man, take us
back there. Where were you at mentally, man when you
were walking out of that building. Last year, it was
it like week five.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, it was I got hurt October fifth, crazy against
the Bears, same time of the year. We played them
again the second time, so it was at home too,
prime game, but it was wee five, and dude, it
was it was hard, man Like. It was a lot
of uncomfortable days. Man Like, I remember that first month
like it's a lot of tiers, like lot of teers,
(01:36):
because you know, you you get to such a high
pinnacle of like where you want to get the year
before and right, you just want to build off of that,
and then now you go, you fall back to the floor.
Now you got to go get it all over again. So,
man like, it was hard because obviously the season last
year didn't go to where I wanted it to, and
then I wasn't out there and I felt really helpless,
you know, like part of me is like I want
(01:56):
to I want to go out there and do what
I can to help it, right, and then when you can't,
you got to it down. It's just like it's tough, man.
But I tried to beat as much as I could
for the guys, But I also took that time for myself, man,
to recalibrate and just really get after it.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
I really didn't have an off season last year. I
went straight from playing to surgery to I was in
pt and working out every day because I didn't know
what this year was gonna be like for me, man,
And I was like the toughest part about it. It was
like the unknown factor of like are the team's gonna
see me as this or are the new people coming there?
Or like I'm going off injury, how are they gonna
feel about it? Like? Yeah, man, it was challenging. Man,
(02:31):
it was a different spot for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
What gets you through that uncertainty because you already had
a full career for some people, right and some people
can't bounce back from an injury like that. What gets
you through all of that down, all that uncertainty?
Speaker 2 (02:43):
You know, my mom used to say she wrote in
that letter that I read, I read every game before
I left for college. She says, you know, you never
let anybody put any limitations on you. So right, Like
God gave me this test, right, it was something that
he said, Okay, I've given you everything, now make it
away and see how you react. It's the same as
how you handle job. Right, So like I lost everything
(03:04):
in that moment? How am I going to respond? Am
I going to keep my faith? And I'm not going
to keep my persistence and keep going every day? And
that was it. Man. It's just like, okay, this is
another task I gotta calm over, Like how we're gonna
do it? Let's do it.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
And you're a very hungry, self motivated guy. Then you
have an injury like that. How much more motivation did
something like that give to all pro revo? Ah?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Man, it gave me everything. Right, Like I said, you
get to like the height of where you want to
be in like your professional career, personal goals wise, right,
like you're all pro, you're pro bowler, Like you solidify
yourself as one of the best in the league at
what you do, right, and then you fall back down
to the mountain again. Now you got to remember what
it was like to get it back again.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Right.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
So it's like you get everything and you lose it again,
and now you got to call back to get it again.
And that's what it was. Man, it was just it
was crazy. I said this when I was talking to
be Mitch and Santana. I was like, I'm comfortable there.
I'm comfortable at the floor because I've been there for
so long, right, So, like I didn't know what it
felt like to be at the top of the mountain.
I'm used to being at the bottom and just crashing
(04:05):
the scar on. So when I got there, I'm like, oh, yeah,
we back and were back at what we know, so like,
let's get it. So I just went back to the
basis of what I do. I went home, I went
back to everything that I was familiar with, and I said,
I like, we about to lock in, Like no excuses.
I'm not feeling sorry for myself. I don't want nobody
else to like, yeah, we get into it.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
And that determination paid off because again, you don't you
even said it. You're like, are people even going to
know that I'm the same guy or people going to
be able to believe in me? Am I going to
get another shot? And now only do you get another
shot back here? But it's with the new coaching staff,
new GM. These are guys that did not have you
in the building last year, but they wanted you back.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
They gave you a little bag for it too. And
what does that do for you?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
He said, You're always at the bottom, right, but these
guys held you up at the top and they held
you to a high esteem.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
What was that like, Because that's a little different for you.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
It was different, man. Like I'll say, like when going
into free agency, right, I pretty much got to the
point where I was like almost fully healthy right now now,
it was just like the maintenance of it. Just remember
the most the most, you know, standout thing that I
had during that process was I got it. I got
a call from a p d Q right during free
(05:11):
agency and they called me like this is before fency
even started.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
And it's like a group called both of them.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
I'm on the phone with both of them. Mind you,
I've never been in a situation where like I've been
valued enough to where it was like the GM and
the head coach a calling you like, look, Revo, look hey,
we know you adult, right. We love what you do,
we love who you are as a player, we love
who you are as a person, we love what you
bring to the team into the building, We want you back.
What can we do around here to make it better?
(05:37):
And I just sat back after I got after that call,
and I said, I called my age. I said, Yo,
whatever you gotta do, man, make it happen. I'm trying
to come back and play for these dudes. Wow, Because
it was it was a very you know, profound thing
to me, right, Like I had never had somebody take
that initiative, because you know, oftentimes, you know, special teams,
guys could be viewed differently, you know, around the league.
And the fact that they had taken that initiative to say, look,
(06:00):
you're one of our dudes. We want you to be
one of our dudes. Man, it spoke volume to me, man,
and I got themost love and respect for them because
they've been consistent from that point all the way up
into where we are today. They haven't changed who they are,
what they bring to the table, how they approach every day,
how they interact with every guy on the roster from
Peace Squad all the way up to like your starting eleven.
(06:21):
They are who they are and what they preach is
what they do, you know, So like, I'm all in
with these dudes. Man's It was a different feeling for
sure when I when I got it, but I was
very thankful appreciation. And that's why I go out here
and play on Sundays like I do.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
And these guys get it man. I mean even when
right through the door you heard Dad, we're talking about
the importance of special teams. Then they show that by
bringing in a guy like Larry Izzo, you know, ex player,
right and you even smaller what I say, his name right,
because man, he has his special teams? Humming, what are
the best in the league?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Right now? What has it been like playing under Larry?
Is on? What makes him such a special coach?
Speaker 2 (06:52):
He's just let's dudes be themselves, man, Like I will say,
like the coolest thing about this entire coaching stuff not
just you know though, but all of them, right, Like
they value players input, right, so like they have enough
humility and respect for everybody in the building to say like, hey,
look if I come to Isoe and I'm like, hey, look,
I think this will work this week, like we should
(07:12):
do this, and He's like, all right, bet, let's do it,
you know, saying with defense and I'm not even playing
defensive snaps really, but I'm like, hey, coach, like, you know,
this is what this team likes to do. They're like,
all right, I bet yeah. We look at it like
this right. So like they have enough humility and they
all want to win enough to say, like we're gonna
listen to everybody, right, we're playing for Iszzo's dope.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Man.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
It's like the first thing that was one of the
first people I met when I got into the building
and signed that day, and like the first thing he
said to me was like, look, Rivo, I've watched you.
I know your tape. I've seen you. Don't change anything
about what you do. We're not changing anything about We
want you to just be who you are and go
play how you do. And I was like bet, And
so like what you see on Sundays is a product
(07:52):
of that man. And he just lets me be me.
He lets me play how I play, and he lets
me play aggressive, and he lets me go hunt the
ball and like that's what we're here to do at
end of the day.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
And it's not just the coaching staff, it's no, it's
the front office is starting to realize who you are
as a player. You tweeted it out, man, Even the
old g's man Lendon Fletcher, Brian Mitch, Saint Tanta Mars.
We're always there in the tunnel after the game to
show you love. And you mentioned how much that means
to you that the old g's I'm not only recognizing y'all,
but excited and happy to see what y'all are doing
on there. Talk about that a little bit and what
you're getting from the guys, because we got a lot
(08:20):
of legends around here.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Yeah, we do, man, and it is so cool. And
now see we've built a space now that they're all
happy to come back and see it right and be
a part of it. I mean, I've been here for
a long time, right, I've been here. This is my
seventh year in the league. I've been here pretty much
all seven and I've been through it all. I've seen
it all, right. This is my third coaching staff, this
is my second owner. I've been through multiple position coaches,
(08:43):
like I've been I've seen it all here pretty much.
And so like we went through some some some grindy
days early on, right, Like we went through the mark
early on, man, and it was tough, and it was
it was it was hard, right, and like a lot
of those guys watched it, right, So just to see
the transition to be a part of the whole thing
with them right there and not to see where we're building,
(09:03):
where we're becoming now, it's just like it's dope, man,
because everybody's been a part of it. So like they're
an extension of me and I'm an extension of them, right,
So like it's dope, man. It's a cool feeling just
to just to get to see those dudes and see
those smiles on those faces, man, and just you know,
they both have it. We both have an appreciation for
each other what they've done and then what we're trying
to do, right, So like it's cool, man. Like it's
(09:25):
a blessing to be able to have those guys accessible
like that too, because you just pick up without a
game from without even talking to them a lot.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
And you're not just an extension of the guys that
have been here and played here before, you're also the
extension of what's going on here now. You were nominated
as our Salutor service nominee here and just like me,
you grew up with two military parents.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Man.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Just talk about getting that designation, getting that honor from
your team, being chosen by your team and your peers.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
What does that mean to you?
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Oh, man, it's a blessing. Man, Like, I don't take
any award lightly, but especially from my peers in the
building who I'm around every day. Because at the end
of the day, right, Like you get stuff from the media,
like they don't see you on a day to day basis,
But these guys are around me every day, so they
see me in every face. Right. But my biggest thing
is when I come into a building, I try to
be the same face and the same person every day.
(10:11):
I try to be the same motivator, and I try
to be the same leader every day, right, And so
like for them to recognize that and you know, put
me out there. Man, I think it goes much deeper
than bold, right, A lot of building a great organization,
to being a part of a great team is not
just about what you do in the field. It's about
what you do off the field and who you bring
along with you. Right, Like, if I can leave this
(10:32):
place better than I found it when I'm done right
and I don't get another accomplishment again, I'm cool with it, man,
I'm good with that.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
You're well on your way to that, man, and you
talk about growing up military, man, how has that affected
who you are today?
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Man?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
All these things you've been to, all the triale's repulations
coming off of ACL injury. I know, growing up military
is very very different than a lot of people know.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Talk about that a little bit.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Man, dude. It's like you learn structure, right, you learn discipline,
and then you learn to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Right.
That's that's the biggest thing that taught me, man, and
it prepped me my entire adult life. Right because as
a kid, like I had parents and I was very fortunate, right,
I had both parents had great jobs. So, like, I
(11:12):
didn't go through a lot of adversity growing up as
a kid. In my adulthood, when I got into the
real world is when I went through it. Right, Like college,
I go through college, I go undrafted. All right, Now,
I got to figure out how to go about it.
You got to learn. You gotta fall back to your fundamentals.
That's what they say when things don't go anyway, you
fall back to your fundamentals and your training. Well, my
training is you wake up a certain time every day.
(11:32):
You do this with a certain time every day, Like
you build a routine, right, So like that prepared me
for everything as an adult male, right, and everything that
I went through from getting cut all the times to
the ACL to where I am today, right prepared me
for the good and the bad. So like I wouldn't
be here without that. I can firmly and you know
(11:52):
say that, and like one day when I have my
own family, my kids will be raised in the same
way because it translates so much into your day life.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Jereed Man, I love talking to you, brother man. It's
just such a wise cat.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Man.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
I appreciate you, and I appreciate your parents for their
service as well. Before you go, man, Thursday night football, baby,
prom toime. We got the Philadelphia Eagles. What can command
the fans expect from this team? Battle of the number
ones in the nfcas man, what can they expect?
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Man, You'll see a hungry team on Thursday, that's for sure.
I Mean, when you come off for loss and you
got a short week, you just ready to take it
out on the next person. You know. Just so happens
that the next person is the division teams, right, So
like we understand what's that state, and it's another opportunity
to go out there and prove us right. It's not
about anybody else proving us right for me personally too,
(12:40):
Like I started there, so it's always a little bit
more trip on my shoulder when I played the team
where I first started at. So yeah, it's it's personal
for me right like. And I'm excited and I'm gonna
play the same style of football that I always play, man,
And they can expect, Yeah, they expect that. Yeah, it's
on my mind. The young boys say crash out, So yeah,
(13:02):
I'm on that type of time, and I think everybody
in the locker room is on the same type of time.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Man.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
We can't wait to see y'all be on that type
of time. I'm sure the fans just gonna crash out
time too.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Man.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Last question for you, brother, because I see the smile. Man,
We see all the videos and clips on social media.
You having fun.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Man, Best time in my life, Man, best time in
my life. It was. This is really really dope to
be a part of and see just how fast things
can change when you have a group of men in
a building that believe in it, right, when everybody buys
into it, and when everybody is following the same script.
No matter what, good or bad, everybody's into it. It's
(13:37):
easy to have fun. Man. The highs aren't too high,
the loaders aren't too low. It's even kill you prep.
You put in the work, and then when you go
out there on Sundays, it's just fun. Man. You just
playing the game that you've always done since you were
a kid, and you just get to let it loose. Man,
just in front of the world now, Man, I'm having
best time in my life.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Rebo.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Man, it's been a lot of fun being a part
of this man and wants y'all do y'all thing. I
appreciate you taking the time to join here on Next
Man Up. All pro revo. Our dog Jeremy Reeves is.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Our next Man Up. Brother, appreciate your time.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Man, appreciate you, brother.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
What's good? Commander's family.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
For our Next Man Up, we had to bring in
the legend and I got a feeling this is one
of your favorite legends. One of the best receivers to
wear the Burgundy and Gold, was a D three player
and turned it into an amazing career. Introducing our next
man Up, Pierre Garsoviier, How you doing.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
Brother, doing amazing? Man?
Speaker 4 (14:28):
I appreciate it. Man, glad to see the commanded fans.
Ain't glad to be on.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Hey man, it's great to have you. Man, it's great
to have you back a part of the Ford, and
we want to talk about all.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
These great things we have going on.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
But I'd like to start from the jump, right I
said it a D three athlete, you go into the
sixth round to the NFL.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Man, Nothing is promised when you're a D one athlete.
Definitely not when you're a D three athlete.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Pier So, first question for you, when did you know
that you were going to have a career in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
When did it hit you? Was it during that time
in college?
Speaker 4 (14:56):
I know, honestly, when I realized I would have a
cruise career in the NFL is probably like after my
second or third year, once I kind of understood the job,
because you know, it gets repetitive after a while. But
you know, the first three years, you know, you're just
hoping you can help the team because I was playing
special team. My first year, I didn't play at all,
mostly special teams, and in my second year I was
(15:17):
into the offense. But you know, nothing's guaranteed, you know,
injuries happen, teams loses, coaches changes. You really don't know
if you have a career because you know it's up
in the air every every Sunday, every week.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
And you said it was that second or third year.
Was there a moment that you could recollect where you're like, Yo,
this is when I knew, I man, this is real,
Like I'm really gonna be here. This isn't gonna be
for a short time. This is gonna be for a
long time.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
I got lucky. You know. My second year I was
in India and we went to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
So that gave me all the confidence I need to
play football for the rest of my life. And you know,
once you got that fire behind you, you think you
can do anything and everything. And that's what a few
of me, and they kept me playing hard, honestly.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Yeah, and you win a super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
You have a lot of success those first I believe,
four years in Indianapolis. Then you decided to come to Washington.
I'm sure the bag helps. You got to a nice
little bag to come here. What goes into that decision making?
Because again, you already found success, you already found a home.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
What makes you want to change it up.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Honestly, it is the team that wants you.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
The coaches, Mike Shanahan and Cayles Shannon, they were the
first to call me. They say, hey, we want to
get you the ball. We want you to run after
the catch, and this is what we expect from you here.
I was like, all right, hey, I jumped on the
plane that same day to Atlanta, but landsdown and you know,
(16:41):
just it was this all she wrote, And it was
the best decision I ever made.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Honestly too.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Did you at the time, what was your expectations coming
into here? How much did you know about the Burgundy
and goal before you made that decision to sign here.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
I knew about the team, but not much, you know
after that. You know, obviously we were Santanna, you know,
we know we do you know players, but like you know,
it wasn't a playoff team, you know, so you know,
I knew the location, didn't know exactly where in the
DMV the Redskins was at, but you know, I was like,
(17:16):
I'm coming, I'll figure it out as I go.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Did you now I'm trying to get the timing right.
Did you already know that you would be playing with
a rookie quarterback. When you got in did you have
a feeling? Did you sign before or after they ended
up doing the draft? I can't remember it was it.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Was before the draft, but you kind of have an
idea because the team is setting out the plays in
motion right after you know, the combine, and you know
even during the season, you kind of know who has
the picks and stuff like that, so you kind of
have an idea of what's going to happen after they
signed their free.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
Agents, M and so you but you have an idea.
We don't know who exactly, So we.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Have an idea. We know they're we have an idea.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
Andrew it was Andrew luck in RG three, and coach
were like, hey, we're going to take Andrew Luckett in
you know, the second big big RG three.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
I was like, all right ya.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Everything else goes on, you know how it goes on.
But things change leading up to the draft too.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Is that just a coincidence? Is it circumstance?
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Because again, you're on the team that's going to get
the number one pick, but then you're talking to the
team that's going to have the number two pick. We
have an idea it's going to be quarterback both ways?
Does that play into your decision making at all? Knowing,
hey I could play with an Andrew Luck or I
can play with a RG three.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Right, it can't play your decision depending on you know,
the player, the position, the years. You know, everything has
a minor factor on it. But you know, we can't
control everything. We just have to agree on the big things.
And that's where it was easy for Washington. It was like, hey,
they're the first team to call me, Like freeency opens up.
Back then, this freeiency opens up. There was no pre
tampering player. It's like, hey, two o'clock, freezy opens up.
(18:54):
You know, it's a free for all after that. But
they were the first team to call me. We had
on the phone, we kind of have an idea. So
it was like, hey, we want you here. This is
all role we have for you.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
How do you feel about it? And I was like, hey,
let's do it.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
I don't I don't want to wait and not have
a team. I'm ready to go. You know, let's get
this part out of it so we can get on
the field.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
And it's crazy because when you signed here, the energy
around the building, the energy around this team was very
similar to what we're feeling today, right, We got a
rookie quarterback. Folks are feeling playoff hopes, you know, and
things like that. And you were a big part of
that and that success. Can you tell us what it
was like for you coming here that first year and
playing around such excitement.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Ah, Man, it was. It was it confirmed my decision,
man Man. I was excited, the team was excited, the
city was excited. We had a plan going into the season,
and you know, honestly, we did better than we expected
because we didn't know our office would be just good.
You know, Rchi three, we knew he could be a
problem with his feet, but we didn't know Alfred Morris
would be running the ball the way he did. You know,
we didn't know the offense line would be doing as
(19:55):
well as they did. And it was. It was a
great feeling and there was a lot of and.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
It's easy to play.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
We have a lot of energy behind you, with the
fans truly loving the team.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
As a veteran receiver coming in.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Of course, there was other veterans receivers here as well,
but you have a Super Bowl into your belt.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
You played with Peyton Manning.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
What was those conversations like with a rookie quarterback, where
like were you mentoring him?
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Were you helping him up?
Speaker 3 (20:17):
How were you able to help ease a rookie quarterback
into the NFL?
Speaker 4 (20:21):
Yeah, you try to make it easier on the quarterback,
you know, just give you a chance with the ball.
You know, you got to make the tough catches so that,
you know, everybody build their confidence. And as a veteran player,
it's always up to you to make the tough place
so that the younger guys can see it and try
to emulate that. So it was easy for me to like, hey,
just give me an opportunity, and I'm gonna do whatever
it takes, you know, to catch the ball, to get
(20:42):
more yards, to you know, get the first out of
keeping dropt on, because that was that was our job.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
And outside of Santana, who I get to work with
and talk to a lot, there's not a lot of
people that can speak to that transition that happened when
y'all went from RG three him getting hurt to Kirk Cousins.
And I remember the draft being like, yo, why take
two quarterbacks so high like that? You know, you got
a number two guy, and then you go get another
quarterback who could easily start as well for you as
(21:07):
a receiver. What was it like when y'all made that
transition from Rgi through to Kirk cousins A.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
You know, well, the transition wasn't easy. But we know
Kirk is gonna stay in the pocket. Robert, you know,
he's gonna run, he goes, He's trying to try to
stand the play. Kirk's gonna try to stay in the pocket.
So we knew that. We knew, like it's more of
a you know, a three step, five step, seven step.
We kind of knew that Hey wants to play breaks down.
You know, the boss coming out. It's coming out quick, Rober.
(21:36):
We're gonna try extend. We're gonna try to break it
because you know, he has that extra ability and we're
gonna use it to our advantage because you know, the
defense don't want.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
To defend that.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
They rather defend us than try to chase the quarterback
all day. So we knew that we had that as
an advance. So we call different plays. We call things
that can help us, you know, and help Robert and
help the offense with the extra streight that we got.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
And then you get to line up next to one
of the best to ever do it. Sure we can
agree in Santana mass Man, I've never met a brother
like Santana.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
I'm sure he was the same that he is now
as he was on that field.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
When you think about lining up against somebody that is
one of the greatest to ever play the position. Man,
what are some memories you could give us playing next
to Santana mass Ah.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Man, You know, I've been washing Stann alone before I
knew Santana because you know, I'm from South Florida. He
went to University of Miami. He's from South Florida, and
he's been making those plays that he played in the
league in college, and you know, he was he was
the heartbeat of Washington because we knew that guy was
going to get the ball. He was going to try
to take it to the house air every time, and
he has the speed to do it. And as a receiver,
that's what you always want to do. You want to
(22:36):
be a big play guy, and Santana always was that.
And you knew every time he had the fall it
was a chance that he was going to go. He
was going to it, so you know it was it
was a blessing and you know, learned a lot from him.
I actually, you know, when I first came over, I
was talking to Santana. I was like, you know, how
come you don't spin the ball? No, more like, not
how come we don't spend the ball, but like, how
do you spin the ball? Because he spin the ball
(22:58):
without effort. And we spent a couple of months practicing it,
and I finally mastered and I started doing in the game.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
But it was being how much to him.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Because you know, he's a talented guy, and you know,
you always want to see guys like that too well,
and he was a guy. Once he get the ball
in his head, you knew he was trying to score.
And I was trying to stimulate that.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
He's funny.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Even in the studio, he still spins that ball and
it'll just keep standing up. Man, he has not lost
in touch at all. And you're somebody coming with that
Super Bowl experience. However, Satana has a few years on you.
What did you learn from a guy like Santana? And
you know, we hear a lot about that iron sharpening iron.
I feel like it was very true with both of
you guys.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Man, you know, Honestly, as you get older, Santana, the
older guys, they teach you how to stay around longer.
They teach you how to prepare for practice, prepare for games,
have your body massage and well taken care of so
that you can, you know, play eleven years, twelve years,
and you know you can be effective in the fourth quarter,
and you know you can be better for your team
because honestly, you have to perform and you never know
(23:58):
what's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
In Santana was always prepared.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
You always had us prepared, and you know it shows
when you play for a long time.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
And Pierre, we're talking about two of the best receivers
to play in the Burgundy and go right now.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
So I got to ask you, you know people love
their list.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Man, if you had to put together the top five
list of Washington wide receivers the list, brother, ain't ain't
no judgment over here. Who would you put on that
top five list?
Speaker 5 (24:19):
You know, I haven't done enough research.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
That's a tough one. Top three, let's do top three.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
You know Art Monk is number one, Tantana.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
You know it's up dann it And honestly, man, you
know I didn't play in Washington long enough, you know,
you know, see, I don't want to leave nobody out
because you know there's the old glue guys, and I
haven't paid that much attention to those over there.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
The fans aren't gonna judge you, brother, it's your list
is now. You know they're going up on you.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
I'm not indicated though, but it was.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
You know they have now IM not even making me
go way back to try to try to come, but
I you know it's tough, man. Yeah, it's top two
are sealed and then the rest. I think you guys
can coolly cooly, COOLi.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Coolly okay cool, throw the tight end and now okay,
there you go.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
I'm not educated enough on the Washington history enough to
know like all the great receivers that came out of there.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Okay, well I got another tough one for you.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Then for you, just a European who was the toughest
defensive back you lined up against in your career because
you saw some.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Dogs, toughest dB obviously the reason was tough and Patrick Peterson,
those guys they play man and man and they locked
you know, the guys up individually, and you know it's
easier for.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
A receiver to play against that.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
But those guys are always like the quarterbacks don't want
to go towards them when they know they're playing man
and man on a certain individual. So but those guys
will get respected because it's different between playing man and
man in a zone defense where you just stay on
one side of the fielding. You get help with the
d ns and the outside linebackers and stuff like that.
But you know, man, the man you give respected and
(26:03):
Patrick Peterson Revus, those guys played Antonio Comarti, you know, shoot,
Brent Grimes was one on one guy. It was a
lot of guys that played good defense and man de
man defense to get more respecting soon defense.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Man.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
You mentioned those lists of guys, so it's even more
impressive to see what you were able to do during
your time here, because yeah, you weren't here forever, but
this was your most successful outside of the Super Bowl.
This was your most successful stitt in the NFL being here.
So I have to ask because I've asked Tanna this,
I've asked all the legends of this. I'm like, y'all
are from different places, y'all have played on different teams,
but for some reason, the DMV always ends up feeling
(26:40):
like home and always ends up being what brings you
guys back here. So Pierre, what about the Burgundy and
gold has made this become like your home away from
home if you will?
Speaker 4 (26:50):
You know, you know, like when you play for a
city that loves their team, they love their like their sports,
they love the sports. You know, as as an athlete
to play and tw that loves their sport, it's a
blessing because you coming to where everybody loves the same
thing you love, and you know it's speaking the same language.
We're all trying to win. We're happy to supporting. They
(27:10):
see the game, they understand the game. So it's it's
the love from the d m V, from the Birdy
to go. They everybody's a die hard commanders stand now.
Everybody loves it and I love it too because I'm
actually out there trying to go hard for the team.
So it's the love and the longevity of love, the
long history of the love for the for the team,
for the for the city. And yeah, it's it's it's
(27:32):
the best place I played it far, far by far.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
And I believe you because we see you out here
like we actually see you.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I don't know that.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Believe last season, the new ownership had you as one
of the legends of the game and you were all
that feeling and.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
I remember seeing you and I'm being like.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Wow, he won a Super Bowl somewhere, but he is
here in the old vation you were getting in that building.
I don't know if you remember that moment, but can
you say us back there and just what that meant
to you? You put your blood, sweat and tears on that
field for this organization to be able to come back,
be able to smile and not have to have the
pads on, but still get that type of love and
ovation on that field.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
And what does that mean to you? A man?
Speaker 5 (28:14):
It means a lot because you honestly you miss it.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
You know, you miss how big the stadiums, You miss
all the fans, and you miss all the roaring, and
it definitely gets your blood going again. And it is
a blessing to see the fans to cheer for me,
because you know, you don't get that often no more,
and those are the few things that you do miss.
And it's beautiful. The new ownership, the team exciting, they're winning.
You know, Unfortunately, on Sunday not, but you know, things happen,
(28:38):
but they're on the right track and actually they could
be a good game on Thursday night. So I love
the supporting that the team give me and the fans
get me in. And I enjoyed every moment I was
in DC. I promise you, man, it's a great.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Time for me. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
And we had a great plan and it all worked
out perfectly and that came out on scanned.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
And we loved having you here.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
And you say, all these moments you have, can you
give us one of your favorite moments when you think
about your time in the booking Gold, what was a
favorite moment or memory or something funny you have that
you could share with us.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
And we had a.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Lot of great times, honestly, man, it was a lot
of great times in Washington. But you know, obviously the
first win was the big one, like, hey, we didn't
know what we're gonna be, what we're gonna do. That
first win was like, hey, we can do anything and everything.
That was a great time, you know, beating Philadelphia, you know,
(29:33):
at home, it was a game winning touchdown, Kirk threw
it to me. We beat Tampa Bay coming back from
a lot with Kirk said you liked that. That was
a crazy moment beating Minnesota one night when rgg RG three.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
Took the roof off the place.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Late games games actually in Dallas took days given days.
It was a lot more Redskins fans in Dallas that
that night, that game.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
Then, you know, we expected.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
But there's a lot of great moments, a lot of
great memories going to the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
You know, shit, we all worked hard.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
For those moments, and you know it was just want
and done, but we were happy to like build something
and it was good times, man, and I still enjoy
and think about it now.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
And it's funny because you were part of an era
of Burnie and Gold that I think the last time
the fans were really happy and.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Excited was then.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Now we look at this team right now and a
lot of that excitement has to do with another working
quarterback in Jade and Daniels. When you see Jade and
Daniels out there playing and doing his thing and what
he's been able to do not only for this team,
before this entire city, the entire DMV.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Man, what do you feel, what do you think? I
know that has to be proude there.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Ah, very very proud man. I'm happy.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
I hope we keep him for fifteen years, eighteen years.
He's a thrower where he's a great quarterback. You know,
he's making plays, he's winning games. You know, it's it's
what you want in a quarterback. And he prepares for
every game and that's that's that's the love that you
know he's gonna receive because he's always playing well.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
He's always doing the right things, and the city loves that.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
And he's I'm excited for the future because he's only
gonna get better and we're gonna give him more weapons
around him, so you know, he's he I'm excited for him.
I'm excited for her because he's a natural thrower too.
He's a quarterback. You know, he'd run with the ball,
but he doesn't need to run. He can throw it.
And he throws a good deep fall too. It's always
(31:34):
a threat.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
What's like RG three had, he has him a dog
and a weapon and once and Terry mcclum man, I
know you're.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
A big fan of him, said Tanner is a big
fan of him.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Talk about once a little bit and just what you've
seen with all of his longevity. I think this game.
This last game, he got his fourth one hundred plus
yard game. That's just in this season. Talk about Terry
a little bit.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
Oh, Terry is a great player.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Man. His focus is concentration because man, he know, he
puts his body on the line. They're throwing the ball wherever,
and he's just focusing on the ball and going to
get it. And you know, as a receiver, that's one
of the most important things because you know you can
lose track of things right on the field, but you
can tell Terry's focus. You know, it's all about football
to the man, and that's one of the best things
you have as.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
A leader on the team.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Especially helps for a young young quarterback too.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Oh man, for sure.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
Man.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
And then it was so much excitement around this team.
There's so many great things and we love having the
legends back in the fold really showing love. And man,
nobody better talk about the Philadelphia Eagles and you you
don't have so battles with the Eagles, Man, Can you
paint a picture to us on why these games? Because
we know the Dallas, we know New York, but something
about Philly feels a little contentious. There's a little bit
(32:41):
of extra animosity there. What about these games are so important.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
And you know it's like it's like it's like you know,
it's it's a rival a game.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
It's like the team across town, Like, hey, our fans
are better than your fans. Our players and our quarterbacks
better your r I running back, it's better your runn back,
I receive your receiver. Everything is compared against them because
they're so close and it's a divisional game. You know
this dictates, you know, if you get a first round
by or if you get a home game, or if
you're on the road, because the visual games are important
(33:10):
and we need to beat them twice because they can't
get hot. We don't want that, but we need to
like definitely definitely get on them early and often because
it could get ugly. We don't want their fans to
get them extra right, we that crossed our rivale. It's
always a new, new new game and like nothing else
(33:33):
back then, matter is everything.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
What's next on the next Thursday night game?
Speaker 4 (33:37):
I think it is so who those games are important
and they're so.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
Close, especially this season.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Man two teams balance for that first spot in the
NFC East Pier. Thank you so much, Man for coming on, Man,
Thank you so much for taking the time to join

I know they're gonna be excited to hear from you. Brother.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
