Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast. Mamma Mia acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on Hi Friends. It's Lee here, and it's Monday,
and not everyone loves Monday, but I do because over
on you Beauty, we have so much fun. And we
have a new segment called Beauty Bite. It's where Kelly
and I share random rogue and genius news tips or tricks.
(00:35):
So if you want to write near Monday, have a listen.
Makeup is my therapy. I'm in love, I'm obsessed and
I don't even feel jailty your body. Hello, and welcome
to you Beauty, the Podcast for Your Face.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I'm Lee Campbell, I'm Kelly mccarroth, and you've got some
news for me.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
It came out a few weeks ago now, but I
just said to you off air, did you see it?
But algorithm and I was like the Skim's beauty product launch.
It is one of those sort of you know how
you can get the Kabad and j beauty sheet masks
that have the fluid like get liquid and they snatched
your jaw. Yeah, so she's made this full like head
thing that snatches your jaw. The outrage has mean outrageous,
(01:19):
which I do agree with because it's like, can we
even just relax, But also she's definitely not the first
person to do it. They've been around for so long. No, yeah,
she's coppying so much criticism because like it's like impossible
beauty standards. You know, her whole brand is like sucking
in and perking up and did it, which I agree,
But then I also just think because she's the most
(01:39):
famous person to do it and it's.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Her, Yeah, I completely agree with you, Like, I don't
think she should be getting flack when so many other
brands do this.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Also, they wouldn't I know. I looked back in my
camera roll and I had an old one. I'll have
to find what it was. I mean, I don't have
it anymore. It was a single ye sheet mask thing,
but it went over your face and up behind your ears,
and you were meant to wear it for an hour and.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
It's too uncomfortable.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
I mean I wore it for an hour before an event.
I wouldn't do it all the time.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
But before an advent or a photo or something sort
of fancy thing. They actually do definitely work. But she
kind convent it. She invented, so why we shout at her?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I don't know. Anyway, that's a little bit of beauty news.
But what are we doing today?
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I couldn't help, but Wonder asked me anything.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
You ask many questions.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Well, we are answering your questions. So if you do
have a question, please let us know. You can dm
us as our lovely Olivia has today. Well, I'll read
what Olivia's Oh yes, please, Lovelyly. Is it okay to
send you a question for the Beauty podcast?
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Of course.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
I'm starting to see products with azalic acid, but I'm
not sure what it does. Where do I fit it
into my routine? Is it like an exfoliating acid, or
as you said, some serums that say acid are actually hydrating.
All of the acids confuse me and I don't want
to strip my skin.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Such a good question, and you're right to be cautious
before you add it first up.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
This has just reminded me that so many years ago
I did a Thursday episode Deep Dive like the A
to Z of acids just acids, not ingredients.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Acids?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Oh yeah, it was. It's like and I didn't touch
on some of I think I did make a couple
of jokes more do you. I'm sure how many of
them made it into the final cut, but.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
God, and I'm so silly. I just thought, oh, yeah,
because this is a good one for Z. But it
starts with but you do there's a Z acid? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well let's explain as alic acid for Olivia and the ubis,
because there's confusion around it and it feels quite underground.
Are quite new, and that's for a reason. So up
until about this time last year, late well mid to
late twenty twenty four, the TG changed its rules and
(03:42):
restrictions around the use of marketing and how you could
buy asalic acid. So at a certain percentage it was
considered a drug, you know, a medicine, so it was
behind the counter or prescription. But then they changed that.
Still there's variations around the percentage, but now brands that
you can just walk in and pick up can formulate
with it. So it feels like, oh, I don't know this,
(04:03):
but it's because it was more restricted before. So Olivia
is asking, is it exfoliating mildly? Let me tell you
about it, because you might not need it, my friend, Olivia,
So it's a pretty great ingredient. It helps with rhseaesia,
it helps with acne or breakouts, and it helps with hyperpigmentation.
So it's a bit of an all rounder, kind of
(04:24):
like we hear about our retinol a little bit like
nicinamide sort of.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I would say it's better for someone with rose asia
than retinol. Not always, oh yes, just because like a
lot of my roseesia girls love this ingredient because it's
gentle enough, like retinol is quite intense, so oh yeah,
rose sa is obviously very food sec yeah, exact people,
that's it. And so I mean it also depends on
(04:51):
the strength you get, same with retinol, but it's antibacterial
and anti inflammatory, which is why it's also great for breakouts.
And because it is an acid, like a proper acid,
not a hyaluronic acid, which they should just change that name.
It is gently exfoliating, so it can fade the marks
you might get after a breakout, you know, hyperpic imitation,
post blemish marks. It can reduce breakouts, which we love.
(05:14):
And I've been getting quite a few verslated, Oh my god,
why mercury are you in retrograde? Why is it coming
out on our skin.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
I think it's like, well, one of those girls needs
to taste small acneve products. It's safer sensitive skin. Again,
still err on the side of caution. And it can
be used during pregnancy, which is great because a lot
of you know, things that are for pigmentation or you know,
anything that feels like it's doing anything you feel like
you can't use. So you can use it daily, but
start slow. You can even kind of use it morning
(05:42):
and night depending on the product, but it starts slow
just because it is an active ingredient. Before I tell
you some products, you need to assess the rest of
your routine because if you know this is quite an
active product, if you're already using a retinol, a vitamin
C A like, yeah, you don't need it. No, you
probably don't need it, but it might be worthwhile assessing
your whole routine and it could replace something else if
(06:03):
it's better for you. So look at your routine as
a whole. Check out what's active. Check out what they're doing,
because you don't want to ever do it. Some brands
our beautiful favorite to one of our favorite products, You
and I kellical brands, Naturia. They have two azaleic acid
products that's made in the US, so I think they
have always had, you know, more lax restrictions there, so
they brought it here. As clear is really popular. It's
(06:26):
just a pharmacy brand, quite not sexy packaging. It's a
Z clear that's more for you kind of hardcore breakouts.
Like I put that in the acne category where you
would go to like that medical acne area in the pharmacy.
Paula's choice of course Laroche Paz and a brand I
hadn't heard of, but it's got amazing reviews. Hello Skin,
they've got a really good one. So if you do
(06:47):
Google or go and have a look, you'll find that
most azalek acid products are marketed to breakouts. But have
a look around. I feel like now, I mean that
was a year ago that the TGA lifted the restrictions.
It's definitely more, but I think more and more brands
are like, oh okay, we can use that now in
a better percentage, or we can talk about that now.
So I think we'll see more and more of it.
I did not have any in my collection. I want
(07:09):
to give it a go, obviously, put for me, I
mean I do get the odd spot, but for me,
the pigmentation situation and I'm not sensitive, but I'm sensorized
my skin from all the chopping and change. Yeah, so
I'm gonna hunt one out and report back. Yeah, report
back because I went through my bathroom and I was like,
I've got to have one somewhere. Nope. Yeah, So long
(07:29):
story short, Olivia, check out what you're doing. If you've
got breakouts, give it a go. If you're already using
a RETINOLV that you laugh. I wouldn't switch, but that's
what that guy is.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Kaz has also sent to us a DM. Hello, I
love the pod, especially Monday apps. My question is about
lines and creepy skin on the neck, I mean my
early fifties and really noticing this. I've tried the boost
Lab Next serum and now the Trinny Elevator cream with
only very minor results. What are your suggestions any other
(08:04):
serums or skin treatments I could try?
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Thank you so much, Kaz Cauz. I feel you early fifties.
I'm forty three and I swear well not overnight, but
and I've always done my neck care.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
You've got a beautiful net.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Oh becaus yes, okay, so listen, we could only do
so much topically, and whatever we're going to do, we
have to do consistently and be patient. So the number
one recommended thing for this area is retinal. But the
skin from your neck, like you'd under your chin down
to here, is thinner and much more sensitive to the
(08:38):
skin on your face minus the skin under your eyes,
which is pretty much similar to this skin. So don't
go whacking your prescription retinal or your strong retinal straight
down here.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
You taught me that, and that blew my mind. I
don't know why I didn't know that, but I just
always assumed. I know, not it makes sense, but I always
assumed anything that wasn't your.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Face with thicker, robust no, because this bit. But then
you go to your arms and everywhere else and that's
thicker and more resilient.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
So this area is pretty skin guy like, why do
we come out with different skin.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I'm gonna recommend some specific neck like chin to nip
pool products. But whatever you do, if you do have
a retinol that you like, you could sandwich it, or
you could just go by an affordable face retinol that's
at a lower percentage hydration so I would do retinol
maybe build up to most nights, but then hydration. I
would almost like missed, Well, this is what I've been doing.
(09:25):
If anyone's gonna look at me, it's so different when
I'm not on camera, I missed, and then I'll do
a hydrating serum and then a lightweight moisturizer like I
give my neck almost like a treatment like my face.
It's not just like one swape swape swipe. I've got
some expensive ones and some affordable ones because we love
a spend diesel. Everything in the show notes though, so
oh yes, everything's in the show notes. Doctor as always,
Doctor Naomi hit the deck because it's decolatile. Ah, I
(09:49):
think that's about one hundred and fifty dollars month, So
I've used. It's very good, it's quite strong build up.
Just because it's quite strong doesn't mean you should expect
results immediately. This is going to take three to six months.
So with all of these, I mean that an affordable one. Now,
Rock Skincare has a really great neck and like decoltage cream,
(10:09):
really beautiful. That's forty two ninety nine. Do you can
get that wherever you get Rock Skincare are you know,
the big er, little old big c not Life.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
It's a chemist brand, but not a chemist brand.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Yeah, what is it? Really? Wow?
Speaker 2 (10:22):
That was that made sense.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
It's actually very not very under the radar. But I'm
always impressed with the stuff that I I've.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Never tried a dud.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
You same, They're really good. Number seven also has one.
I when I was researching this yesterday, I ordered it
from Priceline four price. It's fifty nine to ninety nine.
I was reading a whole bunch of reviews from around
the world and it sounded great, So it's on its
way to me because I was like, Gus, Yes, exorbitantly
expensive is a skin Suitical's neck cream two hundred and
(10:49):
forty nine dollars?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Oh my goodness, I know, I mean amazing reviews.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
I'm not spending two hundred fifty dollars on my neck
like I care, but not as much as my face.
And I'm already in love with so many of the serums.
I'm like, guys, Bare Minerals has one that I've not tried.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
It that mainly did make up.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
I know, No, they do some really good skincare. This
is one hundred and eighteen and fresh skincare also has
one one hundred and fifty five dollars, so if you
want to find a specific product, it's definitely out there.
If it were me, I would probably just go to
your number seven, your ola and buy a retinol, like
you get a specific retinal for your neck, or you
know the Elizabeth Ardan retnols that are really hydrating this,
(11:27):
so there's one that you love. I would almost go, okay,
you're my neck retinal. And then you could also like
have a separate routine for your neck as you're building
that up specifically, because I'm assuming kas you know, you're
into skincare and you're in your fifties, your face might
be more used to anti aging products than your neck.
So almost go okay, face tonight, this is your routine,
(11:47):
and then next this is your routine and like catch
it up. Yeah you know what I mean. Sunscreen because
sunscreen and always from your well, your forehead to your nipples,
because what the sun exposure does is degrade the college
and the lastin and that's why it's getting whoby. If
it's really bothering you and you wanted to do a treatment, yes,
(12:08):
there's lots of options. Are a skin tightening. So radio
frequency hyphoo, I've done hyphoo. That's that really weird one.
It tightens, But i'd also kind of got rid of
that for me. They explained what that is to anyone's past.
Sorry her turkey, I don't know her.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Go toad, toad or turkey gobble.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yes, toads have the ball, Yeah they do too, poor turkeys.
They're always the one.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
They're the ones that get what I always think of
a toad.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Okay, yeah, I mean I had two sessions, I think,
and it was quite not quite painful. It was like
it felt like electric anyway, Okay, it was fine. Intense
pulse lights of ipl there's certain ones that can do that,
lasers or there's a treatment called ultraforma that is specifically
about skin tightening. You're gonna need a few sessions of those.
It's gonna be expensive. If I were you, I'd go
(12:54):
find yourself a net cream or a retinal that's right,
and then I'd put it in your diary like I'm
starting this now, and then in three months within your
diary house monet going, and then in six months. Because
it's not an overnight fix, but it's a commitment but
it can be done. I mean, look at our glorious faces.
Just give you a comp to the that's it. So
hopefully that helps, Kaz, But I feel your sister. I'm
(13:15):
just gonna keep wearing turtlenecks until I've sorted mine out. Oh,
she says, wearing a deep, deep plunge.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Yeah, but you have like whatever you've done on.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Your mind, it's fake. So what I do is I
wake up dry and revolting, and I do my makeup,
but then I just skin flood my whole neck down
to my nips, and then I mix my foundation with
my last step of my body cream because that's a
lot of pigmentation.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Remember that day that I forgot that I'd put a
little bit of makeup on and you were like, not
a chance. Is your chest skin that beautiful? You must
have someone And then I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Probably would I have to do all the time.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Yes, I would put like even just a little bit
of concealer mixing with moisture.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Yeah, without thanking on that I've done my foundation. Bronzo
is darker than my body, particularly in the middle of winter,
so it would be like I was wearing a white mask. Yeah, exactly,
all right, kell, I've done a lot of talking beauty's beauty.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Well, the funny thing is with the beauty bite. I
want us to discuss it together because we need to
talk about the Golden Hour facial.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Have you had one?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
What in the magic So a little bit of a backstory.
A couple of probably like six weeks ago, you had
this facial. It was called the Golden How facial. It
was that sensation boutique in bron Tea, Sydney. But it's
any so they have it at other clinics around Australia.
You just have to look on the website, which we
will link in the show notes. And Lee doesn't get
(14:41):
that many facials. You don't have time, you don't like
to lie still, and you were like, it was one
of the best facials I've ever had, so obviously then
I needed to go and get it because I love
a facial.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Foo. Oh do you really love a facial? Do you
love the results or the experience? Ah? I hate both.
I just don't. I just get so anxious about the time.
I like results.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
But the thing is I kept thinking about you because.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
When you had no chop on and you're being mas massage.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
The thing about a good skin therapist is that they
will tailor it to you. Yes, And it was so
funny because I just thought, there is no way that
Lee got this exact facial because mine went for almost
two hours.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Mine was ninety minutes. I think, oh, I can't remember
I fell asleep. Remember I fell asleep? You did? Because
like that, I said, did I fall asleep? And she
was like, oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Okay, maybe we did get the exact same one because
I thought there's no way that Lee would actually sit
here this on. But if you fell asleep, that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah. Mine was phenomenal. So it's a Vanessa Meghan customized.
They use gold in one.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Of like they literally use we need to put a
photo in here. They literally put It's very unsexy while
they're doing it because they're just kind of like plastering
gold onto your face.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Okay, No, I didn't have that, like you had sheets
of gold.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Yeah, I must have been asleepep because that was you
definitely would have had that because that's part of the
gold in our facial.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
But I think that one of them had a CCTV.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Is that in our industry, Lean I both sometimes can
get a little bit cynical, of cynical, but a little
bit like oh about natural products or purely natural.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
I don't think it's cynical. I think that that we've
tried so many treatments and products that there's plenty we
don't talk about that don't work. Like treatments we have
our products we try, so to be impressed is pretty impressive, exactly.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
So a lot of the time it takes like hardcore science.
So really yeah, yes, but oh my goodness, these Vanessa
Megan products and the skill of the therapist. It was
just outstandings.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Do super firm facial, Yeah, because that's what I think,
that's what put me to sleep. We wonder if I
had gold on my face.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
It was just outstanding, and it's such a gold.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Gold is so beautiful gift to either yourself or for
someone else, or just the products. Honestly, I'm Vanessa Megan
has always been on my radar, but on and off,
and then it's way back on now because I just loved.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
It anyway, So I was just so impressed. So definitely
have a look if you're after a facial that feels
good but also does something, and it can totally We
always say, you can't just get a one off facial
because there's no point. You may as well invest in
a good sim You actually.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Could, well, you know what you could, because I don't
sleep at night. The fact that I fell asleep during
the day while someone was touching me.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Very respensive nap. Yeah, two hundred and sixty.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Five by a regardless, but obviously we're both Sydney Bass.
We'll link in the show notes and you can have
a look around the country if you want to try it. Well,
mine's way less sexy.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Oh there's no gold, no topless massage.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
No, but it involves shoes and deodorant and nothing to
do with smell. So winter's almost over. I hate winter shoes.
You hate winter shoes. They're so hard to like. I
get that ham.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
High put a sock on with a heel because my
feet are cold.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
All you're the cool girls do. But then it's just
like the ham and the shoe and the practice anyway.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Yeah, my hem is wet. Yeah, right, even though I'm
wearing a heel.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
But even for me, it just is hard to make
the outfit look good. So I've still got some flats
that I've purchased, been going to break in trying to
break in, Like you know how breaking in a flat
is just so annoying anyway, Like it's what flight do
you have to like a loafer or a balance?
Speaker 2 (18:11):
You know they're just too awful? Yeah, right, too offul
you you spend two hundred dollars on good quality leather,
used to have to break it in? Absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Well, I've got a hack for you, my friend. So
then I'm always the one going I could do this
and then halfway through the day'm running seven eleven to
find blister pads and blah blah blah. Guess what the
Internet told me to do, and it works. Put the
shoe on obviously before you get to blister stage, but
where it's rubbing, get deodorant ideally not spray on obviously,
but ideally like the creamy one. So you don't want
to do this on the Swede shoes. You rub deodorant
on the bit where it rubs, then put your shoe on. Gone,
(18:41):
the rub is gone. It acts like lubrication protection.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Wow, I would think that it would rub more and
then you'd.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Get like, I think that's obviously why you can't use
the spray because it's like powder. Yeah, but when you
use those creamy ones, Yeah, it acts like a buffer
and just kind of like, I don't know, it warms
it up anyway, like it doesn't rub for the rest
of the day. And I swear it's made my shoes
break into.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Oh my goodness, I love that so much.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
I find another hack for deodorant considering I love it
on my lips, like not my lips, like my sweating lip.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
You it's been geodorizing with the new Rick's owner or
body under the boobies, so it works.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
So, I mean, I know winter's nearly over, but we
all like to wear a clothes in shoe if you've
got it, even a heel that wraps. Just don't do
it on swede because you might get a bit of
the like deodor and yeah, but if it's a leather shoe,
because you can wipe the videoto and off. What have no?
Thanks Internet?
Speaker 2 (19:30):
All right, well I'm going to go try that. But
thank you so much for joining us. Whether you've got
