Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to Amma Mia podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Mamma Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on Hi friends. Lee here
over On your Beauty, Kelly and I have been testing
the viral beauty products you might be seeing all over
your feeds so you don't have to, and we're sharing
our honest thoughts on which ones are good on this
week's your Beauty, So we're popping in here in case
(00:34):
you want to have a lesson makeup is my therapy.
I'm in love, I'm obsessed and I don't even feel.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Guilty a body.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Hello, and welcome to you Beauty, the daily podcast for
Your Face.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I'm Lee Campbell, I'm Kelly mccaren and it is Yes.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
What day is it? It's always Monday or Friday in
my head when we're together.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, but also just.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
It is it's like, oh it's Monday, Yeah, it's Friday.
Do you get the Sunday scaries? No?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I Monday is probably one of my favorite days. What
I love my days? Tell me I don't anyway. That's
a really sad song and no one will know because
they're not as old as me. What do we do today? Okay,
So every Monday we answer your questions and we come
up with a row coostac. Last week it was about baking,
but not under the eyes.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
No. Finally enough mine was above the eyes but not baking.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Today we have two fantastic questions as ever, later on
in the episode, we have got a question that just
made lego no, and then the first question actually I
went off for Heaven's sake, So basically it's gonna be
real short app.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
No, We've got some good advice.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
I couldn't help, but wonder ask me anything?
Speaker 2 (01:46):
You ask many questions, Caitlin Emailda, She said, Hi, ladies,
there seems to be lots of info on skincare products
that are not safe or not recommended for use during pregnancy.
But what about makeup? The ingredients done seem so obvious
or easy to interpret. Are there any brands that are
generally considered safe or to be avoided when shopping at Mecca?
(02:06):
So for a priceline or chemist ware house, particularly because
lots of products now incorporate skincare. Looking for a nice primer,
skin tint or light foundation setting, powder setting spray and
tubular masca that I won't be second guessing, but also
make me feel a bit well put together when leaving
the house each day. Set the scene. I'm twenty eight
years old and twenty three weeks pregnant, with no major
(02:27):
changes to my fair skin. My skin is generally clear,
a bit of texture, combo dry now heading into winter.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Sometimes I hate that everyone has an opinion and thinks
that they know everything.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Because you don't mean this about our lovely friend, No,
I mean this.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Why does she think this? Who on earth has told
her or made her think otherwise? Because there is not
one makeup product on the market that can't be used
when pregnant or breastfeeding correct, and any brand that's like, oh,
pregnancy safe makeup that just makes me want to veto
them completely because.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
That is scam ungreen. It's just mark marketing exactly. So
what you'll find we're going to link in the show
notes to mother Safe, which is fantastic resource. They've got
PDFs on pretty much everything, and they've got a great
pdf that you can download or read about what you know.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
You can can't use exactly, which is pretty much just
the only thing you cannot use beauty wise is prescription
retinoids and hydroqernone and then to be safe over the
counter retinal products.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, that's correct, which is vitamin A. So the reason
is that we say you can't use those is because
they've never been tested on pregnant women, because ethnically, you
can't test ingredients on pregnant women in case it does
go wrong. So it's not that we know they're not safe,
we just haven't been able to test. As a community,
I would avoid those in my skincare. If you're really worried,
(03:43):
I would use over the counter retinol. I wouldn't mind,
but it's up to you.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, the mother Safe does say that that's fine. It's
just more so do you yes.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
And the Mother's Safe document is really good because it
goes into nail polish, spray tan's hair color, so it's
got the whole thing there for you. I questioned when
I was pregnant because I was loving the et Cosmetic
c Sea cream, which has vitamin A in it, and
I took it to my obstetrition she said, it's totally fine,
but it's of course it's a comfort level for where
you sit with what you're using. But honestly, makeup is
(04:13):
completely fine. It goes through rigorous testing. It's not being
absorbed by your skin like some skin carriers, and even
then you know you'd have to apply itam and a
all over your body blah blah blah, but err on
the side of caution so you are comfortable. I guess
I've got just some great recommendations that are pregnancy safe,
but they all are in terms of a base. You
know what I love, and I think that is just
(04:35):
good for this time, you know, pregnant or postpardon where
you just don't want to bother with a full face.
It's the Mecha Cosmetica in a good light face tint.
It's SBF thirty. It's forty five dollars and it's just
like that wash of I've had a bit of sleep,
a bit of glow. It is a bit of some protection,
but it's only SPF thirty and you're not going to
apply enough for it to be your full sun protection.
(04:55):
So make sure you're putting SBA fifty underneath. You want
a setting powder. This is an organic one, just in
case that makes you feel better. The Ineica organic mineral
setting powder is really great, Kelly, and I call them
like little trampolines. It's like a loose powder but it's
got a the bouncy Yeah, you just get your powder
brush and off you go. But I don't know if
i'd be bothered with that postpartum or pregnant.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
I was pregnant in the middle of COVID and I
vomited most days for all the day.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
So yeah, I wasn't bothering with much. No, I was.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
My son is about eight months when we went in. Yeah,
I was feral. A beautiful setting spray is the Raw Cosmetics.
So remember how I love the Rawdy.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yes, you got me.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
It's like an under a pencil. They've got the watermelon
fresh setting spray, which is really fantastic, and then you
want a tubular. My favorite in the world ever has
taken over lounge Face Slash, which I still love, is
the two faced ribbon wrapped lush extreme lengthening mascara.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
You know I've tried that. It's the best. I didn't
love it.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
What is wrong with you?
Speaker 1 (05:56):
I know?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I think I need to give it a few more
goes to me, you know someone It starts very juicy,
so maybe you know how some of them are.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Okay, so I need to give it because you were
talking about it as your spending a few weeks ago
and then are like when and God and tried it?
Speaker 2 (06:10):
So she bought it, which we were talking about the
other way. Yeah, I should love it, Kelly, I need
to try to get Okay, long story short, everything is safe,
but if you worry, take them to your obstetrician or
your GP or your what's that person called that helps
you have a baby midwife.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Yeah, and see what they say, which is going to
be it's fine.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, it's fine.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Coming up after the break, decanting Sun's green yay or nay?
Hannah sent us a DM on Instagram. Why should we
not decant suns green into other containers? I was hoping
to decant some into a smaller travel sized bottle to
take with me to Barley to save space. Is it
okay to decant suns green into an opaque, dark colored bottle?
(06:54):
Thank you? I saw this question. I was, Oh, no,
she's just written this in to troll Lee. Well, we
know I love decanting, so if you know that is true,
but we also know that you will passionate, passionate like
a little decanting queen. I love putting things in little
smaller tubs and tubes and stuff. So that means just
basically taking stuff out of their original packaging and putting
(07:17):
it in a smaller bottle or tin or whatever. But
sunscreen in Australia is classed as a drug and therefore
goes through more rigorous testing, very expensive testing, yes, through
the TGA Therapeutic Goods administration within the packaging. I mean,
I have a beauty brand and we're not GGA, but
we still put we don't, but the chemist and the
(07:38):
people that manufacture it put it in the container. Then
they do what's called stability testing. So it goes in
an oven, not an oven, but like really hot for
really cold a couple of months, then really cold for
a couple of you know, and then shake it and
do all sorts of things to make sure that the
ingredients in the formula and whatever the packaging is made
for is compatible. And because sunscreen is quite active in
that it's got a lot of filters in there to
(07:59):
protect your skin, it has to be compliant with what
it's housed in. So it's gone through rigorous stability testing.
If you then take it and put in another plastic
thing or whatever I dare say, it probably isn't combatible.
What you could maybe do I still wouldn't is a
dark dark, dark brown glass bottle, but then that's going
to be heavier. Also, if you're going to Balley, let's
(08:21):
say for a week, you will need a full sized
body sunscreen.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
And it's so expensive. So unless you're like buying their
buying there. When I say it's so expensive, it's just
a lot more expensive than Australia. Yeah, so unless you're
only taking carry on, I would just take a huge
thing of sunscreen.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, you know, just take you know, you don't have
to take one of those pump packs that you see
the Life Surf Saving Club. But if you are going
to Barley for a week and it's sunny weather, you
will need a full size sunscreen and for your face sunscreen.
I mean some do come in minis, but even then
that's probably only five applications, So you were going to
need all of your sunscreen. There's no point decanting. Do
(08:58):
you agree?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
I completely agree when I did go to Barley at
the start of the year, though, I think you can
do it, but not as your primary sunscreen.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
No, no, no, if it's like your makeup on top
or something.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
So what I did it was because I knew that
there would be a couple of days and I was
only going to you did carry on. I did carry on,
but one of my girlfriends was bringing over some extra
SBF for me because I only had the travel sizes.
But what I did for day Club Vibe, I made
up my own little concoction.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Oh god, not a sunscreen.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Well, I put sunscreen in it, but then it was
never going to be my primary sunscreen, if that makes sense.
So it was a spray bottle and I put in
like a beautiful oil, some shimmer. I don't even remember
what I put in it. I did put a bit
of SBF and it. I was like, why not a
little bit of extra?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
And then can I just say I actually forgot about
this until this moment. It was that good that then
another girlfriend was flying over to do a shoot. It
was their highest selling shoot, like the Return of Investment.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
To date, because their skin was so juicy they used this.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
She was like, oh my god, I said, use this
on the models like limbs and everything. But when not
endorsing that as our sun Oh no, that wasn't my sunscreen.
I'm just saying that I'm a really good scientist myself.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
No, but you'll like go to the supermarket and you
get your cancer council for you know, two hundred meals,
three hundred meals, whatever those body ones are. You will
go through that absolutely exactly. Oh up, next our host
hacks and we've got your slipped back head doude lips.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
What a new makeup hacks?
Speaker 2 (10:33):
All right, kel, tell me about your nude lip?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Smart nude lip.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I can't actually do a nude lip, or what I
want to know is when I say nude, I mean
rosy brickypink like my lip.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, what do you mean you can't do it?
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Well, I've got a friend who does a nude lip,
but she does a nude lip like it. It's not foundation,
but it's foundation colored like a skin.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
I don't like that. So some people it looks fine,
but on me, I look like I.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
It looks like I've put my foundation on my lips.
Yeah yeah, I just I look.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
A bit dead.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Okay, what's your tip?
Speaker 3 (11:02):
So with a nude lip, this isn't really about finding
the perfect color or anything. It's just about lining mainly.
So when you're lining your lip, don't don't line the
entire lip with a nude So what you want to
do think about your lip real estate in quarters? Okay,
so the bottom lip in quarter, sorry, the top lip
in thirds is hard. You only want to start the
lip liner on your bottom about a quarter of the
(11:23):
way in and then finish a quarter of from the
other side, if that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Okay, So like the half in the middle, the half.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
In the middle, you want to like smudge it along
the bottom and then then top the middle third you
want to smudge.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Okay, So like the qufin's vot and a little bit
outside And why aren't we doing these other bits?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Because it looks silly?
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Does it look overlined?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
It looks overlined, It looks unnatural, and it looks clown
like I think. And that's where a lot of people
are going wrong when they're doing a new lip, because
then it just looks too structured as well.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, because you're going for that these are my lips.
And what if you're doing a red though, please.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Well that's where I was going to say, So that
is my only exception when you're doing like a really
cris statement statement, not like I lived in hot lip,
it's a statement.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
I'm a boss bitch crisp red.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
But even then I was thinking about it, I actually
still probably wouldn't completely line, because sometimes line of feathers.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
A little bit, even the good ones.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
What I do is I get like an angled brush
for precision on that outer portion because.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Stick from the bullet.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yes, exactly, this is so interesting. I must go and
do this with my lip line.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
I just go.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Yeah, so I just with a nude They'll never take
it out to the corners.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Okay, it's clowny.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
I need to just white mom stick off please, so
lazy with her newde lip that she got them tattooed.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
It's true, mine are tatooed on. Mine is the best
best way to get a slip back, pony, don't wash
your hair or a slip back button or even just
like that slip back just got out of the water vibes.
Oh like the wet hair. Look, yes, have you ever
done this?
Speaker 1 (12:56):
I don't know. Doesn't say what you've done lube. Oh no,
it is the best.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Can I tell you? I like this at Cosmo when
I was on a shoot, and I forgot to tell everyone.
Maybe I have. But recently, Momamia, we got sent a
humongous box of loob and everyone was like, wow, loube
for everyone. I was like, yes, I love lobe and
everything like lub is back in fashion. Well, everyone was like, alright, Lee,
we don't really need to know how much you love
your lube. And I was like, no, no, it's for
my hair so honestly, because it doesn't set like hair
(13:23):
gel dry.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Really no.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Well, it depends on the type of Loube you get,
but most ky og loop yeah great, perfect, okay, Because
it's silicon based, it just stays kind of juicy. It'll
stay in place. Then if you need to use the
comb again to get any bumps out, you can keep
kind of slicking it. Honestly, it's so good. We used
to use it on shoots all the time. Oh yeah,
to get that really shiny, wet look slicked back. And
then they would use bondage tape. I know that sounds bad,
(13:47):
but like that black tape receiving get I know, from
the sex shop to wrap around the pony because it
gets your pony to sort of stick out more and
it's just like a black and it's like it's not adhesy,
but it sticks to ita itself. It's like a rubber
that anyway, got your actually heard of the low hair
stylist backstage using loube. It's so good. So and then
(14:08):
the cameras turn on and they go, I use.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
This head yeah yeah, yeah, no, she got a little
bit her hair.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yeah exactly, it's really good. And then you just shampoo
your hair out. Anyway.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
You might need a few shampoos, yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Not more than like hair jell or like like I
don't know, you know those really hectic commar Yeah no,
because usually they're just water based. You can kind of
just rinse your hair. On that note, Thank you for listening,
and don't forget. You can also watch some of our
episodes on YouTube so you can see all of the
things they're talking about.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Not today's episode though, because no, no one needs to
see Lee with a loube.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
I didn't bring my loube.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
