Filho de um árbitro, Artur Soares Dias cresceu a acompanhar o pai nos estádios, habituou-se cedo ao ambiente do futebol e conheceu, desde jovem, tanto o lado fascinante como as dificuldades da profissão. Nada disso o demoveu — nem sequer os avisos do próprio pai, que procurou dissuadi-lo de seguir o mesmo caminho.
Ainda na adolescência, inscreveu-se no curso de arbitragem e iniciou um percurso que o levou a subir, etapa a etapa, todos os escalões. Hoje, é considerado um dos árbitros mais conceituados do país e uma das referências internacionais da sua geração.
Ao longo da carreira, dirigiu inúmeros grandes jogos em Portugal, incluindo clássicos e dérbis, e somou momentos marcantes no plano internacional. Entre eles, destacam-se a presença no Euro 2024, a final da Conference League desse mesmo ano entre Olympiacos e Fiorentina, e a primeira mão das meias-finais da Liga dos Campeões 2022/23, que colocou opôs Real Madrid a Manchester City.
