Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Pass Podcast. Today is Saturday,
August second, and today after training camp practice, we heard
from a few coaches and players. First up, senior secondary
coach Chuck Pagano, how.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Are we doing pretty good? Fire away?
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Are you already into the camp team after not having
a few years?
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Yeah, all the way back. You really don't have a choice.
But uh, it's it's been awesome. We got we got
such a special group, a great group of guys, coaches
and players, and it's a ton of fun, super easy
football characters.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Off the charts.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Uh yeah, they they they love ball. So it's it's
been a blast.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
How much easier is it?
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Yeah, you know when it's like, yeah it life's life's
a lot easier and we've we've got a ton of
it back there. But the thing about it, I mean,
they they work and they the plays they make today,
the plays they've made in their careers to this point,
it's because of their preparation. The time that they put
in weight room, off season, film study, walk throughs doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
So they come out here.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
They know how to prepare their their great pros.
Speaker 6 (01:17):
You know, reading the free safeties.
Speaker 7 (01:19):
They're kind of buying the laws of any to about you.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Said, yeah, they're all they're all doing a great job. Again,
when you have as much talent as we have in
that room, uh, top to bottom, and the young guys
that have come in have shown the ability to grasp,
you know, the scheme and learn what to do.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Uh. And then they got ability out here run and
make plays. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Iron sharpens iron, you know, like man sharpens man. So
they've done a great job. Everybody knows what's at steak,
but they're all rooting for each other Too's.
Speaker 8 (01:54):
Hope you enjoyed getting oj you.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Alexander, Oh yeah, as much as you guys, as much
as that they're you know, his teammates, he's special. You know,
he's got so much juice and so much energy and
so much swag. And then when he gets out there,
you know he's been telling us, you know, I haven't
played football since November. I got to ease into this.
And then he jumps out there and looks like he
(02:18):
you know, hasn't taken a day off, so super smart,
knows how to play. He's a great teammate. He brings,
like I said, he brings a ton of juice and energy.
You can just see, you know, like when he intercepted
them all today, do you see the reaction from the
whole defense, Like that's love, that's that's respect. When when
that happens, it's easy to tell, like these guys know
(02:40):
that that guy's are great, not only a great player,
but they love him as a human, as a teammate.
Speaker 6 (02:44):
Impact is they have when you have a guy who
has that swag or the juice, and some guys have
talked about it, it's kind of been like missing that
one a little bit to that to that group, it's huge.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
It's huge because we've again you got a ton of
talent back there. But you know, there's guys that kind
of lead by example, very quiet. Their play isn't quiet.
It speaks for itself. But then you get somebody, you know,
with that type of swag. You know that that jaw has.
He's not afraid to talk. You know, I can't say
(03:15):
the word I used to be able to say that,
you know, my other my other job before I came
back to coaching. But but he loves loves the yapp
you know, and they feed off of it. You know,
that's contagious. So it's great to have.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Him We know Woozier's track record as an outside corner,
but is he something you could also see the effective
kind of moving around other that's inside.
Speaker 6 (03:35):
Or even in safety for.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
You know, from a physical stature, he's you know, he's
put together, he's got good size, he can run and
most of all, you know, his football intelligence, his football IQ.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Is off the charts.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
So we've we've worked them in there a little bit
dim backer. I don't know if you guys have noticed that.
So he's certainly a guy that he's a quick study.
He's played for a long long time, so we end
stands he knows how to play. He's always in the
right spot. So you're getting a pinch. You can't have
enough guys like Cheeto that have versatility, position flex like that.
So that's a bonus for us for sure the secondary.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
But what can you do?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
What's kind you're focused on trying to get?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
In what sense?
Speaker 6 (04:22):
What do you is there is there something you.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Focus on as far as trying to get on communication,
gelling anything?
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Is there anything? Is it like drills or how you
talk to that that.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Yeah, it's even like you know, they had Friday off,
we're back at it today. So Thursday night, you know,
Jah had a dB night at his house air so
everybody went over there. So developing those relationships, developing that brotherhood,
it's like, goes way beyond anything. When we walk in here,
(04:55):
they're always communicating, they're always talking, they get a feel
for for each other. But when you build that relationship
like that and that becomes much deeper than just showing
up to a nine to five. You know, show up,
do your job and then leave here.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
That goes That goes a long long way.
Speaker 6 (05:13):
So definitely mean with.
Speaker 9 (05:14):
Naytan Wagans that you're emphasizing to help him take his
game to the next level.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah, just consistency because we've seen him, you know, from
a talent standpoint, you know, the measurables are there. He
can run with anybody in this league. It's just consistency
of being able to play at that level. Down after down,
and then year one to year two, you know, we
all expect a big jump just from a I think
(05:39):
the game's really slowing down from for him.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
From a mental standpoint.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
He's starting to get all the calls down, so now
it's going to be okay, what's the down in distance
He's going to understand that what's the personnel in the game,
what's the formation. He's going to be able to dissect
and diagnose instead of worrying about, Okay, what's my job
on this call. He's already got that down. So now
it's like he's figured out third and eight. It's one
(06:03):
of these two plays based on the personnel, based on
the formation, motion, and all those kind of thing. Excuse me,
So just consistency.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
To a couple of the defensive guys, they've all talked
about emphasizing more turnovers. We talk to you today, what
are you what are you kind of doing of the
coaches trying to do to maybe get more turnovers.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yeah, so you know it starts with you know, the
head coach obviously, and then Zach. We talk about that
every single day. The ball is everything besides the final score.
You know, takeaways determine win loss more than anything else.
You know, your plus two, your plus three, you're gonna
win your plus three, You're gonna win ninety two percent
(06:45):
of your game. So we drill it, we talk about it,
we talk about it, we show tape. Zach's done a
great job of going back and finding all the turnovers
and takeaways every one of Ed Reid's ray lewis those
defenses from from when John first got here in two
thousand and eight. So he's showing those, showing those, showing
our own guys making plays from practice. So when you
(07:08):
see it, you talk about it in the room, you
go to practice individual drills, we're working turnovers all the time,
we're talking about it.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
And then you have a daylight today.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
You know where you get four or five interceptions, guys
are getting their hands on the ball, pass break ups,
those kind of things. Again, it just becomes kind of
a feeding frenzy if you will, you're in a.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
Couple of days in a practice for you, we'll be
some emotion seeing the worship helmets here.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
No, it'll be great.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Not many players left on that squad from when I'm there,
but a bunch of you know, personnel guys, front office people,
ownership obviously Carly and Kaitlin. I don't know if Case
you'll come, So it'll be great to see a lot
of familiar faces.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
Iron sharpening iron. What have you seen out of this
Ravens receiver roof?
Speaker 4 (07:55):
That's really testing your secondary There's a ton of speed,
there's a ton of beath let.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Greg, you know, Greg Lewis does a great job with
that group. They they run great, great routes. I mean
they're explosive. They are they are super fast, super explosive.
It's it's like, you know, Zay Flowers got feet like
a shore bird. I mean you it's almost impossible to
get a hand on some of these guys a little wade.
I mean, those guys are so quick at the line
(08:21):
of scrimmage and again their route running.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Uh, just a competitive nature.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
And it reminds me I go back to college, to
my Miami days. We were so talented on both sides
of the ball, and those guys competed at such a
high level. By the time game day came around, it
was like easier just because of how competitive those guys are.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Next up inside linebacker Trenton Simpson.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
Much more.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
How more comfortable do you feel right now in training camp?
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Compits?
Speaker 5 (08:56):
So maybe last year where you're starting to really get
a big part in.
Speaker 8 (08:59):
The Yeah, man, I feel great. Two years of growth.
Speaker 10 (09:03):
You know, I'm going into my third year, two a
full off seasons now under my belt, So I mean
I'm so comfortable out there. Uh, got a great understanding
of the defense, you know. Now, so I'm just go out
there playing hard, fast, physical, raven football.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
Uh, co Julcos it's all about the turnovers.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
You gotta generated turnovers you did?
Speaker 6 (09:24):
Yeah what pot and yourself and had a right a day?
What Uh? How did that playing to how you get
you to thinking about what you could give the team
as far as trying to get.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
A part of that.
Speaker 10 (09:33):
Yeah, man, as a linebacker, just you know, our our
emphasis shots on goals, so you know, getting a shot
on the ball every time, you know, trying to punch
it out. Uh, and then we got to send in
the defense room tips and overthrows. We gotta get throw
so and just being on defense. The more turnovers we
get in, the more more times we can get the
ball back to the offense and Lamar andos guys, I mean,
the better chance we have to win.
Speaker 8 (09:50):
So yeah, sure.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
How would you sort of describe your process coming out
of last season, Like, did you did you spend a
lot of time going back and looking at what you did,
Like how did you make.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
The turn from the end of lastcher into getting ready
for the years?
Speaker 10 (10:05):
Yeah, sir, Yeah, going back and studying myself, you know,
studying my tennessees and things I did great, the things
that I could approve on, and just going back and
doing a lot of self reflecting, you know, And I
feel like all off season I did a lot of
watching film. I did a lot of great things last year,
so you know, going back and just continuing to build
on those and just getting ready for year three.
Speaker 8 (10:21):
And it's gonna be special for sure.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Is it something you wanted to kind of work on
coming into this year. I don't know whether it's in
the off season or even now in.
Speaker 10 (10:29):
Cam Yeah, just I wanted to gain a little weight
on gain five pounds, so I feel a lot more
stronger run foot wise, I'm in there, I'm stout, you know,
I'm taking on guards, you know, coming downhill and feel
a lot more you know, stronger. So yeah, that was
the emphasis this off season.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
What's your mind, fat.
Speaker 9 (10:44):
And approach to when going into your.
Speaker 8 (10:46):
Thirtyeenth Just go out there and ball, Like I'm excited.
Speaker 10 (10:50):
I know the work I put in this off season
and then the goal I have for myself, the goldest
defense has and the goldest team have and for me,
I just know, like if I do my one eleven,
how this defense can be cause I know those ten
other guys gonna do their job. So for me just
being very self conscious on my habits, taking care of
my body and just focusing on film.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
He's a little bit about what it's like to play
next to real Quinn.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Maybe you on the field, just your perspective of how
you're reading on him.
Speaker 10 (11:15):
Man, it's a blessing cause he's he's just such ahead
of every play. You know, he's a eight year guy,
you know, all pro, one of the great So him
being able to see the tendency, seeing the for guard,
his light on his hands, you know, run past reads,
things like that. So for me, like being able to
go into another year with him, I can definitely see
improving myself and then just being around him outside of
the building, also just watching ball together.
Speaker 8 (11:34):
My game is gonna grow a lot for sure.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Is that besides where you.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Can go kinmi stream with you What did you guys
students saw season and how did he push you to
make some of those.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Changes or adjustments.
Speaker 10 (11:44):
Yeah, so he actually took the time and came back
and trained with me a lot one on one this offseason,
watching film together. So uh, him just I mean truly
just taking me under his wing, you know, spend a time.
You know, we're grabbing lunch, talking ball, talking about life
and just a true example of a great teammate is
what he is. And I appreciate him a lot and
I'm excited to go out there and make some big
plays with him this year.
Speaker 7 (12:05):
Canada.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
Do you see that this competitions? Do you look for
chances in my hand? You both like, how do you?
Speaker 2 (12:12):
How is that? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (12:13):
Man, I mean it's just a National football League. It's
always competition every day. But also that's my teammate. We
come to work and we come to learn off each other.
What I know, I'll give it to him, and what
he sees, he'll give it to me. It's all a
team effort. And at the end of the day, week, team, team, team,
you know, that's what we preach. And uh, as long
as we get the wins and everybody's you know, our
defense is playing well, that's all that matters. Saying I
(12:34):
could say physically wise, he works in the weight room.
He's definitely a strong guy, a lot of good energy,
and I definitely see he has a bright future for sure.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
Going back to World.
Speaker 9 (12:45):
Plums, when you have a teammate like a step up
and take you under their wing like that. What does
that do for your I say confidence?
Speaker 3 (12:52):
But what does that you do with?
Speaker 10 (12:54):
I mean just the feeling? I mean, I know I
believe in myself, but to have you know, the guy
besides you believe me, he means a lot because I
know as a teamate of his, I know is zero
gonna do every play, so you know the confidence we
built practice is beside each other, spending time on and
off the field. I mean, it means a lot to me,
you know what I mean? And every day I try
to go out there and prove myself to him, the team,
and also to myself to know like I'm trustworthy and
then you can depend on thirty two to do his job.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
What would he like to one play last season? Because
it was really interested about it. It's a play where
Kyle van Noy appeared to.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Miss his coverage, just like on the right side of
the field, you in over tim like, can't someone to
say after play Kyle kind of touched on his stuff.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
I couldn't see what he was saying. But if you're
agin picking accountability for it, what did that mean to you?
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Though?
Speaker 10 (13:32):
I mean it means a lot. I mean, this defense
is full of great vets. You know, Calvin Noyd was
going on year twelve thirteen. So I mean it's just
all we all accountable. You know, we're all right, we
all wrong. You know, we're all on the same page.
So in that play, just a little miscommunication. But like
you said, we all took you know, community ability of
it and figured it out.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Now we have cornerback Nate Wiggins.
Speaker 11 (13:56):
Maybe I know you only did a TV vagel dryer
for a little but how would you kind of describe Uh?
Speaker 12 (14:04):
Yeah, man here he wanted he wona one man.
Speaker 8 (14:06):
Uh him and Marlowe.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (14:09):
I mean you can't compres the dudes. I mean like
they just want to one. I mean great, great, great teammates.
Great we do is to be around they just I
mean hyper. They gonna bring the energy, I mean, and yeah,
that's what we need on the team, is somebody who
can bring the energy to the team.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
Who's parents been on you? Uh Chuck Mitchell Deep, Yeah,
Jerry had a DD night the other night. I don't
know if you left that, which is.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (14:34):
Uh, And soon he came to the team, he said
he was gonna bring the energy he here, the teachers,
whatever we need, he here. So he been a great
uh impact, just like you said. Uh in the first
week came he said, we're gonna come to his house.
Oh I mean he just he brained the joy. I
mean yeah, like he he a great fit to the
dB room.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
Every coach that week asked about you. They say, got
every every component. It's just conticity. It's what's yeah freaking
what you have every day? Did you would you agree
with that? And how do you what's your on on that?
How do you get there?
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Uh? Yeah, I totally agree on that.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (15:09):
Just practicing every day, I mean, getting getting reps every day,
getting better. I mean, uh I am perfect, So I
mean I'm messing up at time to time, but I.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Mean just being p Uh.
Speaker 8 (15:19):
It's been consistent.
Speaker 12 (15:20):
Just like they said, just practicing every day, come to
come to work. Uh no, no mixing days and just
keep working.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
They coach Logano, he said, the game is slowing down
for you. Can you give your perspective on that and how.
Speaker 9 (15:33):
That's can help me get you better?
Speaker 12 (15:35):
Uh yeah, just like uh seeing the routes concept, uh
getting no, getting the no. Uh, just like the NFL
better and just Uh, concepts of the routes, how deep
the rout it is. So I feel like, uh, last
year I was just playing with my talent and with
with God will give me. So uh this year May
it's gonna be a totally different uh ball game. This year,
I I know now I know like the routes, how
how they wanna do the routs, how they wanna running out.
(15:57):
So now it's like it just slowing down everything and
everything going to me.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Now is that ability of kind of knowing what you're saying?
Do you feel like that allows you to be more
aggressive at times to make a play on the ball line.
Speaker 12 (16:08):
Yeah, just knowing my help at a time, just like
you said, know where my help at, knowing whe Kyle
letting no Ma low at. So that's gonna make me
make my plays on the ball this year. And just
knowing the defense. Uh last year I already didn't know
the defense. I was just out there, like I said,
So this year, uh, I know the defense now. So
uh now it's just about playing fast and just gonna
get ball, taking the ball about.
Speaker 7 (16:29):
Adding Wait, this offseason, how is that felt what the
Pats coming on?
Speaker 6 (16:32):
Do you feel like you're just as fast as you.
Speaker 12 (16:34):
Work for Oh yeah, I feel great actually, Uh I
feel like I'm more faster now. I can uh take
take on blocks now. Uh, I'm very I'm more stronger now.
So oh yeah, I mean yeah, has there been someone that.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
You really as you've known as you tried to learn
that mental side of the game.
Speaker 12 (16:49):
Uh, since are came in. I mean that's the guy
leaning on. I mean me and him, we just I
mean I mean he'll playful. Due, I'm playful dude. So
I mean we kick, we we get along just as right.
So I mean he took me on here when he
first when we first came in, I mean we never
looked back. So him this, Yeah, every buddies.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
Yeah, what's what's different about Chuck the guy out coming
in this year? What does he bring to the to
the coach?
Speaker 12 (17:12):
He bring He's bring whatever whatever you need for re
if you if you got a off date, he gonna
pick you up. I mean he bring the energy. I
mean he know a lot of bar. I mean you
could tell he coach coach for a long time, so
he know a lot of bar. I mean he coach
Arie so I mean coach hall of family. So I
mean why why would you not wanna do it like that.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
You know who know everything? You know what I mean.
Speaker 11 (17:30):
So they there's been a lot more talk about getting
the takeaways the season. You know, you're bring it to
the Hall of Fame defensive players rag or like what
I mean, did you take a lot more pride than
that with that message? I mean just trying to get
his takeaways and how he responded to that.
Speaker 8 (17:47):
Mess some stuff.
Speaker 12 (17:48):
Uh yeah, this year, this year, it was just this
year is about uh make getting takeaways from me. You know,
that's the big big thing I wanna work on. Just
you know, I dropped plenty last year. So this way
it's just about catching it, just getting the cause the
I don't come. So this years you got to catch it.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
And last but not least, head coach John Harball.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
All right, thanks for being here. A great day, A
lot of great fans out here.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Today. We had Youth Football Day.
Speaker 7 (18:19):
Which was I mean, it was it was rocking right.
They were fun. Everybody in New Jerseys. Then we had
so many guests with Ronald McDonald house here, just spent
some time. That's why I'm a little late getting over
with you guys. We had visitors from other countries here.
We had, we said, a lot of great people here.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
It was really neat.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
I had a young Ravens fan who I got my
brand new play like a Raven Hat.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Did you like to have those hats?
Speaker 7 (18:41):
I don't know if you noticed the new play like
a Raven's hats that we that we requested, that new
era got us and uh the fan asked me for it.
I couldn't say no. You know from Ronald McDonald house.
Speaker 8 (18:52):
Right.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
So just really a lot of fun over there. So
good day, a lot of work done. I thought we
made strides today. We got better in a lot out
of areas today. Tomorrow the pads will be back on,
so that'll be in a test. Uh, so we can
operate with the pads back on.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
We'll be at the stadium so that'll be part of
it too. So that'll be a big one for us.
So what questions you have?
Speaker 3 (19:14):
So what does it mean to have all these kids
out of here?
Speaker 5 (19:16):
I mean you provide the uniforms, I mean the energy
that they bring, and mean it was pretty special.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Pretty special.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
I mean Steve does a great job, you know, Stephen
and a both of supporting all kinds of causes and
youth football is one of them. And knowing that football
is alive and well and that parents feel like it's
something that's valuable for their kids, you know, that's pretty cool.
Just seeing the enthusiasm and fun that they're having. That's
it's it's well, we're we're sports, you know, supposed to
have fun and uh and uh and connect with one another.
(19:41):
So it was neat you guys made the move on
Oil and why why was now at the time to
do that. You know, it's probably more about roster than
anything else. We definitely weren't planning on making a move.
We were planning on John being there at least for
one game, maybe two games, maybe maybe all the games,
depending on how it went, because you know, I mean,
if you're the if you're the drafted kicker, you certainly
(20:03):
have the edge right child's But we wanted to keep
the pressure on on both of them too, and he
was doing a good job and kicking well enough to
earn a spot on the team. But we just had
roster needs right now. We just needed some some certain
positions tight ends, receivers and running back. So we felt
like we we had to do it, not that we
couldn't bring him back if we if we if we
get the opportunity or we need to, what does.
Speaker 8 (20:25):
That would you know, does it even solidify with even
more going for it?
Speaker 7 (20:30):
I don't know if I don't know if he can
really equate it that way. I think he's he's just
gonna stand on his own. You know, he was he's
kicking well enough to win the job. I mean, he
had another he had another really good day this morning.
They went over to the stadium and he made them all. So,
you know, that's all good. But as we know, it's
gonna be the games. You know, that's gonna gonna be
the most because getting late, smell the dinner.
Speaker 6 (20:53):
Yeah, you go over to the roster the heer Est Johnson.
Speaker 7 (20:58):
If you guys signed him, he did, you know, you're
gonna have to help me. Okay, I'm not gonna listen
him off the top of my head, but de Ernest
Johnson signed basically during practice. Uh so he gives us
another running back because our other running back. Uh you know,
we have a concussion there right now. So we want
to make sure we have enough guys. And he's he's
a proven guy, you know, in the league. And then
(21:19):
brought a couple of tight ends in you know, the
bolsters there a little bit, and we're working receivers out too,
you know, because you've got those guys with the different
leg things. You want to have enough guys because we
still want to have good practices. So you just gotta
balance balance your roster camp roster. Sorry, a lot of high.
Speaker 9 (21:35):
Praise for gyre Alexander, not just for what he breathes
from a playing perspective, but his personality, his energy to.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
Say, hey, you talk a little bit about that, what you've.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
Seen from that standpoint, Well, he's full energy. I mean,
he's in the weight room at six o'clock every morning,
so and he's he's lighting it up and bringing energy.
You know, he's just he's just that kind of a guy.
But here's an example. So showed a clip today. We're
one of the one of the young receivers or one
of the young DB's got an interception before the day
off and he didn't run it back to the house.
And we had been showing these clips of all of
(22:04):
our guys, Ed Reid and Dwan Landry and all these
different guys, Jimmy Smith picking picking off and making good
runs and stuff like that. And you know, we want
to encourage our guys, and he didn't didn't run it out.
You know, I just told my say, man, you know
what a guy like me, who was not a good player,
would have given to be in an NFL practice. You know,
if I'd got an interception, I'd definitely be running that
thing back to the house.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
You know.
Speaker 7 (22:25):
So Jaiere, did you see what he did? He picks
one off on the sideline when we got this fields
run this way, then we got another field run this way,
So instead of running it back that way, he went
on the other field and ran it all the way back.
Speaker 6 (22:36):
Did you see that?
Speaker 7 (22:37):
Like abo about one hundred and thirty yards actually probably
what it was. So that's that's the kind of energy
he brings on the rivers.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Lamar had a.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
Run where he ran to the touchdown, Jay ran him
all the way down.
Speaker 6 (22:49):
Was it didn't like to see the two of them
kind of going out of a practice together.
Speaker 7 (22:52):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, you know, Lamar, they
punched the ball out today. It wasn't Jaiyere, but I
think it might have been Jail and Lamar was kind
of mad, but he couldn't get too many. He says,
you know, it's and I told him, I said that's
your defense too, and he goes, yeah, yeah, they gotta
they gonna they gotta attack the football, and he was
congratulating him. But yeah, I think those two guys, you
are going back to Louisville and having that that relationship
(23:14):
is good. It's it's good for both of them. They
wanted to be together. But you know, just from my perspective,
it's really good for Lamar to have a guy that
you know, he goes back with like that into college
and it's really cool.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Iran out there is warring.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
Michael Pearce's fifty eight. How did that reunion come about?
What role are you envisioned for him?
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Yeah, I came about because he's you know, I think
he still wants to play, and maybe he came to
that conclusion. I know Eric's been talking to him for
a few months and he was in the works for
a while and uh and he played well last year,
so you know, as long as he can still play
and help us. He's a great guy, great kind of
guy you want on your team. Gives us really good
depth in there. I'm a whole surprise he weren't fifty
(23:54):
eight you know, it's a different jersey. Probably it will
be the same exact jersey. Uh, but that's pretty That's
also very cool.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
John.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
We've heard about the juice and the energy that like
Jay Year has brought to practice. Hees curious. I mean
Chuck has brought his own Chuck mcgono has brought his
own level of that. What's what's that been like for
you just in terms of the type of impact he's
having back there.
Speaker 7 (24:18):
Yeah, Chuck is probably like the coaching version of the Gayer,
you know, with that. Chuck has always been that guy.
He's always been a juice guy. You know, he's always
been a guy that great coach, great teacher, definitely, but
also just great fun, great energy, always upbeat, you know,
always positive.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
Didn't they do a circle around him and all jump
up and down after the win interception?
Speaker 2 (24:38):
There?
Speaker 7 (24:38):
The Jyer guy, you know, and they kind of crowded
around Chuck was leading to charge on that that. You know,
like we said, it's sports, it's supposed to be like that.
It's supposed to be fun.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
I'd fall up and something you said the other day,
you were this wasn't a factor today obviously with the weather,
but you welcomed.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
The heat earlier in the week.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
How do you with the with the really big players,
the biggest lineman, how do you sort of balance wanting
them to sort of fight through things mentally with making sure.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
That they're okay.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
It's a great question, and you know, we've got a
lot of science behind that. So we know now based
on history, based on measurements, how much like how much
loading we want with what temperature degrees to based on
the history of it, to minimize the injuries as much
as possible, in other words, to build the kind of
stamina that you want. And what we're looking at is
the preseason and the first four games of the regular
(25:24):
season to minimize the injuries.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
So everything's built that way.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
We even have a deal if they can get to
the next four practices, it ups their their chances of
less likely to be injured by eight to ten percent.
So it's just you know, I don't know how he
figures that out, but that's.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Part of it.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
With that, they're wearing monitors, So they're wearing the catapult
monitors that measure their heart rate to measure their core temperature,
so we know our people are watching every single guy.
So it's not like the old days, we didn't know
where somebody was at. Now we know where they're at,
so we actually know if they can you know, if
they can handle it or not. And we haven't had
anybody get to the point where they can't. We've had
some throwing up and things like that, but they haven't
(26:02):
been to the point where they couldn't they were in
any kind of trouble. So, you know, we just have
to trust the science with it.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
With the Left Guard competition, do you have kind of
an idea when you want to have have that settled?
Speaker 7 (26:13):
By yeah, I mean I want to have it settled
now today and uh and uh, you know, but I
think by uh, we'll know by the end of the
next game probably, you know, I just I Andrew's got
the lead. You know, Andrew, Andrew Vorhies is in the lead.
Something would have to change. But Ben is I will say, Ben,
have you know, He'll tell you first three or four
days didn't look too good. Then the next three or
(26:34):
four days looked real good. So good for Ben. You know,
Andrews looked good all the way through, so he's in
the lead.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
At this point.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
We didn't see you Demontis walk around there is he dealing.
Speaker 7 (26:46):
With the Yeah, he's dealing with, you know, a soft
tissue deal. Just want to make sure he's okay. He's
put a lot of mileage in uh A couple of
different guys like that. You just kind of want to
ease him up a little bit of times.
