Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Past podcast. It is Wednesday,
October eighth, and the Ravens are preparing to face the
Los Angeles Rams Sunday at M and T Banks Stadium.
As they prepare for that game, we had a chance
to hear from head coach John Harbaugh.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Okay, good to see everybody, appreciate you being here. Good practice,
getting ready for a very tough team. Could be some
weather blowing in, we hear, so we'll be uh doing
our best to be at our best on Sunday. What
questions you have.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Confidence with the.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
More any kind of definitive valtal m?
Speaker 5 (00:38):
Right?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah, same with all the all the guys that are
dealing with the different injuries. I think it'll be indicative
as the week goes along, you know what their status
will be going forward.
Speaker 6 (00:50):
What can you say about the all Away trade and
lovely Gilman being here.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, it's uh okay, happened fast. I can tell you that,
you know. And I didn't talk to Jim about it
until after it went down, so it wasn't anything that
we were talking about. It was between Eric and Joe
and the personnel departments on both sides. But uh, we
had a chance to uh consider it in terms of
what was best big picture for our for our for
(01:16):
our team, for our for our defense, you know, and
all the pieces together moving together, trying to build the
best defense we can for the rest of the season.
Speaker 7 (01:26):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
And and also you know in some ways what's best
possibly for the player too, you know, for a DAFE
and uh go out there and uh you know his
contract year and have a chance to to make a
statement maybe you know, I think that's good for him,
and obviously have a lot of respect for them and
how they operate there in LA with the Chargers, but uh, hello,
(01:46):
although he's gonna give us a lot, you know, he's
gonna it's a it's a veteran safety, he's in a
very similar system. He's he's a proven player, had a good,
really good practice today. I think he's a good he's
a good fit for us right now what we're looking for.
So it's a piece that we've kind of been looking
for as we've went here through the last really throughout
the season so far. So for that to happen is
(02:08):
a good thing for our defense.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
You have been talking about like guys need to get
up to speed, get up to speed. We know he's
in shape, he's with playing. Do you anticipate him You're
right on the field fun day.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
I think you can play Onday.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, I believe that.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
The equation they're being able to have the flexibility to
free up Kyle Hamilton a little bit more, get him
that plan.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Cut the line.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I mean, I think there's a lot that goes with it.
You know, it's just kind of put it together and
set up the scheme. I mean, you're playing the Rams,
We've got to consider what they're doing, what our game
plan is going to be against them. We've got that
plan put together. We're trying to practice it now and
we'll see where it takes us. Like this, maybe guys
straighten up more and more of a wake up call
if anything can go to do anything to try to
prove this roster and have a trade like that.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
That might be surprising to some of the guys in.
Speaker 8 (02:53):
The locker room.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Right.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, it's a good, good, good question. I think guys
guys understand that it's pro football. I believe they do,
and uh, this is this is how it works, and uh,
it's always uh there's always moving parts. Opportunities are created,
and I think they understand that John what type.
Speaker 9 (03:12):
Of stresses does the Rams offense and put on you
know how dynamic they are in the past game. But
Kyrad Williams, they seem to still lean on him in
the run game and the pass.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Game as well.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah. Yeah, Kyrian Williams is a really good back. I mean,
you know, and they got them, you know, the backups
of the Maryland guy, you know, Saint Francis product from Michigan.
But they are downhill, hard charging backs. I mean they
put a foot in the ground, they get north, you know,
and they can cut back, they can take it all
the way back, they can bounce outside. It's a it's
a very very physical run game, but it's very fast
(03:44):
paced offense.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
They get to the line, they get out of the huddle,
they quick snap you. Uh, they attack play you, they
speed break you. They do all the things that try
to put pressure. A lot of motion, a lot of shifts,
run play action, boot drop back pass, you know, uh,
some run game out of the drop back pass and
just try to kind of get you off balance. If
they do what they do, and they try to do
(04:07):
it well. So it's kind of in that system, you know.
Sean comes from the the Shanahan and the Kobiak background. Uh,
it's in that system and he's you know, they got
hell of his branches now and of course, uh, you know,
Sean has done a great job making making his branch
of it what it is and his personality. So it's
tough to defend.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
I mentioned on Monday, you know pass rush has to
be better. Obviously put the Dolphins. It's a part of
that deal. So that's something more of an Eric question
I realized. But that's something you guys will continue to
look at terms of maybe who's available, and I know
we've got guys obviously don't put in there, and you'll
think you're confident, but that you'll continue to look at
that in the next few weeks I think.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
So you know, those guys, like you said, it's twofold,
the guys will be in there and uh, they're they're reps,
will ramp up, see how they handle it and see
if they can get to the quarterback. And then I'm
sure until the trade deadline, those are going to be
conversations that.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
We had.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Chance maybe to go and.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Make a statement out there and track here.
Speaker 9 (05:04):
What do you think prevented him from doing that here
this year the.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Forth of the season.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, you know, I definitely thought about that too much.
Other the fact that I think he was playing well,
you know, coming down the stretch here, he was he
he was real intentional about being really direct with his
pass rush and his run defense and being physical with
it off the edge, and I thought he was rushing
the pass well. Probably why the why the Chargers wanted him.
I think if you look at the tape and say, hey,
he's playing good football. So it's not something that we
(05:30):
didn't take lightly. You know, we understand that this is
a good player, I mean a really good player who
was a first round pick who was playing well and
we just had to wait out. All things considered, there's
there's three or four other factors involved in it too,
But it does give us a piece in the secondary
who's a really good guy and a really good player
who we think brings something to the table force that
(05:53):
can help us.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
You talk about a log specifically Cardner Johnson.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
What do you what do you like about what he did? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, thanks for and to Yeah, he's a he's Uh.
I've always liked the way he played, you know, I've
always liked the way he play, he's uh, he he
brings it. He's a bringing attitude guys, a physical player,
a lot of juice, a lot of energy, a veteran
guy knows how to play the game. So that's another
one that was kind of parallel, kind of conversation. Really
maybe him first we were talking about. Probably been talking
to him for a little while, so, uh, having him
(06:20):
here is exciting as well. So yeah, I think our
team is better because of that. No, I really don't.
I mean I think you pick it up just like that.
You know, he's he's smart and he knows the game
and had a good day today. So those are conversations
we'll be having.
Speaker 7 (06:38):
Brands and passports.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
High energy you know, high energy passers obviously, Uh, no,
number eight, you know he's pretty good. Number zero is
really good too, and number ten is really good too.
Then the inside guys are high energy players as well.
They do a little bit of blitzing, they do a
little bit of moving off the edges. But uh, it's
really those four guys with energy and power, and uh,
we're gonna have to be We're gonna to be ready
(07:01):
for that.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
When you mentioned that, you know, trying to find them
rhythm in the offense really hasn't been to your guys.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Light game.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
How do you how do you kind of do that?
Speaker 6 (07:11):
Obviously know the mar status up in the air, but
establishing the ground game and offensive line and how important
is that to try to learn as part of that picture.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Well, I mean the game planning is part of that.
You know, how we put that together. Uh, we're gonna
we've worked hard at that this week. But uh, for
against this defense, and you gotta block them. I mean
it comes down to blocking people. So hopefully we'll create situations,
we'll create a little bit of space here and there. Uh,
but we gotta do better on first down, especially, uh,
first and second down, being more manageable third down. We're
(07:43):
not opposed to getting the first down and first and
second down either, you know, so that would be good.
But uh, but you gotta block them. You have to
get to play started against any defense, but against the Rams,
against the Texans, against the defenses we've been playing in
the style of defenses we really played all year since
the Browns game. All these defens you have to get
the play started, and that comes down to blocking.
Speaker 10 (08:04):
John.
Speaker 9 (08:04):
I know you guys want to win every week. But
is there any extra motivation to try to, you know,
go into the boy week what they win as opposed
to obviously the alternative.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
But it's hard for me to measure motivation like to
say it's extra motivation, because I just think I think
we are all and the guys are all about as
highly motivated as you can be every single week to
get a win. So they're completely motivated to get to
win this week, you know. But the main thing you
gotta focus on is how to do it. You gotta
go play a certain way and getting prepared to do
(08:37):
that and to play the way we can play given
whatever circumstances we have. We have we have a lot
of skilled players on offense. We got we've got plenty
of guys to make plays and go play well. So, uh,
let's go do it. Let's go find a way to
win the game.
Speaker 10 (08:49):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
You got to go play the game and compete and
win one play at a time, you know, And that's
what we're trying to do.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
And I think we can.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
I know we can do it.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
We just got to get out there and and uh
and then do it. But the motivation level is high, alright.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Next up is Wide receiver is the Flowers.
Speaker 11 (09:17):
Obviously still under termed Baltimore is that is this week,
but after playing the last siding with balconem and how
big of a challenge is it to get an offense
one track?
Speaker 3 (09:26):
We need to able to have a two time in calling.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
People here to quota bato uh.
Speaker 12 (09:30):
I mean, I feel like if anybody missing they starting
quarterback on any team, it'll be a challenging week.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
So we believe in coop and we believe.
Speaker 12 (09:37):
In what we got we leave in our team, So
I think we'll be all right.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
See what's your mindset about where you are right now
and what you guys want to do, And obviously you're
not where you feel like we're.
Speaker 12 (09:46):
Gonna be ring on right Yeah, when the next one,
we gotta go win this one, get the buye week,
get everybody healthy, come back, and then try to finish
scrong for the rest of the year.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
What do you think you guys need to do how
the offense that kind of fine to gets just a
rhythm and we've heard of you know, tryna talk about
that trying to find rhythm and so forth. What are
you familiar position?
Speaker 5 (10:07):
What do you think you guys need to hear.
Speaker 12 (10:10):
I think once once we get healthy and get everything back,
like on our offense, and we'll be alright. We'll be
alright cause the last two years we had the same
offense and it wasn't a problem then. So once we
get everybody back, we'll be alright.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
You know, it's on the.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Defensive side, but you have there's a trade that goes
down in the middle of the season's kind of you
know a little bit of shocks the systems. How does
that kind of impact things as you look to get
things back on track and roll.
Speaker 12 (10:37):
Uh, it was definitely shocked to me. Like, uh love Dafe,
love 'em. Uh, great player and I wish some good
luck over there. But like we got some guys that
came in with some familiar like some new faces, but
familiar that we played before. And I think they're great
players too, and we just trying to win, trying to
get to the next one.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
It's hard to process past Sunday. I don't think the
payers since you've.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Been here a game like that where it was just
you know, the score was away.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
It went as quickly as it did and it's just
such a I know for fans or like I can't
believe what I'm watching.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
What was it like going through that? How hard is
it to get rid of that?
Speaker 12 (11:13):
I mean, if you played football before, at some point
you're gonna get there. So I mean, we hate that
that happened that week and happened in the NFL, But
I mean we just got to move on to the
next week. Think about that, think about getting this week done,
getting a win, and getting healthy on a bye week.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
What's what's kind of the mood amongst you guys on
the offense right now?
Speaker 3 (11:36):
I mean, I think we all right.
Speaker 12 (11:37):
I think we're gonna be all right because once we
start running out some wins, I think we'll be We'll
be good. We'll be in a good position at the
end of the year.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Next we heard from rookie safety Malachi Starks, what what
is kind.
Speaker 11 (11:58):
Of the mindset of the defense right now after kind
of a rough start to the season.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
But as far as you know, I agree how they're
practicing being when who we how we describe the mindset
of the defense?
Speaker 10 (12:08):
Yeah, I think the biggest thing is just to get
back to playing our type of defense, and you know
who we wanna be.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
I think, uh, we know who we have in a room,
We know, the guys that we have on the.
Speaker 10 (12:17):
Defense in the locker room, the type of coach that
we have, and just really focusing on ourselves, you know,
finding out what we need to do to get to
where we wanna be, and just kind of focusing on
the steps and not so much of the bigger goal.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Is it challenging to play team defense when when the
unit's struggling that you know that it's not eleven guys
going out there trying to do something extra, try to
make a big players. I mean, how how challenging can
that be when things are not going the way you
want it?
Speaker 10 (12:42):
Tolay, Yeah, I think, I mean it can be, you know.
And I think the biggest thing is I think what
I love about our locker room and our team is that, like,
guys realize you're playing with guys who know how to
do their job, people you can trust, you know.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
And yes, like the season is.
Speaker 10 (12:56):
Not going how we wanted to, We're not getting outcomes
that we want right now, but there's not a seen
one gun in the locker room that doesn't trust to
press the next one, you know, And I think that's
like the biggest, the best thing really, So like nobody's
like really focusing on like Okay, I gotta do my
job and then like I gotta go make a play.
I gotta go make a play. Like the biggest thing
is like you make the play whenever it comes to you,
you know. I mean I think that's kind of like
(13:17):
the mindset of everybody.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Like to wake up and.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
See two new faces in your room and that can
help you guys out at on defense at safety.
Speaker 10 (13:25):
Yes, it's awesome, you know, uh, especially for me like
as a rookie, you know, just really learning from guys
who have so much experience, you know, like I I
got a chance to talk to both of them today
a lot, and just like you know how they view
the game of football, and just you know that older
those older presidents in the room, Like you can never
complain about that, you know. So just you know, coming
here and meeting them, seeing them going out to practice today,
(13:48):
you know it, it always brings a new type of
energy to the room.
Speaker 8 (13:50):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
So we're all excited, okay.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Uh And the way after the game Sunday, so you
would talk about accountability and everyone's gotta be accountable. Who
I uh, I'm the defense who subside is but with
the injuries in so far, the who's who's taking charge
of that within the defensive not not not orror, but
who who along the players is leading? Right now?
Speaker 10 (14:09):
Yeah, I think I think the biggest thing And he
was right, you know, accountability is huge, but it starts
like within yourself, Like you can't take accountability until you
look yourself in the mirror. And I think a lot
of guys are are doing that and then it's just
kind of coming as one. Like for instance, Vanoid, he's
a really big voice in that room. You know, he's
a older guy, he's been in lead for a long time,
Like he knows what he's doing. Like a lot of
guys who are that voice like they're doing it, you know.
(14:32):
But everybody has to start with their self first, you know,
cause you can't like it's hard to it's hard to
do something like tell somebody do something and like you're
not where you're supposed to be as well, you know.
Uh So it's really looking yourself in the mirror and
and figuring that out first and then taking accountability as
a team.
Speaker 7 (14:48):
Now, okay, saying that will first start with they sol
how would you evaluate how you played so far through
uh buy for me?
Speaker 10 (14:56):
Yeah, I think, Uh, I have very high expectations. I
don't I don't pay attention to to the stats or whatever.
You know, as long as the play gets made, it
gets made. But I think my biggest thing is just
trusting myself, trusting what I see, trusting what I feel,
and just going out there and playing and having fun.
I think I'm still learning. I'm gonna be learning for
(15:18):
a long time. I mean everybody is. But I think
really just playing ball, you know, just cutting it loose.
And I think that's the one thing I really want
to focus on. It's just going out there and being myself.
I think, Yeah, just sometimes like I'll see something and
like it'd be like a like a split second where
I think about it, you know, like there is no
(15:38):
time for that in football.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Just when you see it, you go. And I think
that's why I just want to get to the last.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
I mean, you didn't play in a lot of losing games, Georgia.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
I mean you've joined the team that everyone thought was
gonna be a Super Bowl contender. I mean, what's just
what's it been like? Yeah, I think I think it's
been a lesson, you know, it's it's a test.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
You know.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
I think there's there's two ways to look at it.
Speaker 10 (16:00):
You know, It's it's either like, ah, it wasn't our year,
you know, we didn't we didn't have whatever it was
in our year, or Okay, this is a test, like
what do we need to do to get to where
we wanna be?
Speaker 3 (16:09):
And like I said earlier, I think that's the mindset.
Speaker 10 (16:11):
You know, like nobody's pointing fingers, nobody's doing any of
their stuff, nobody's dividing within, so like it's really just
focusing on where we wanna be and like the steps
to get there. Uh, focusing on the steps that it
takes to get to where we wanna be. Cause everything
we want is still in front of us. And I
think everybody knows that.
Speaker 11 (16:26):
You can see that raptusly kind of As far as
personnel to bringing it to you guys, I'm trying to
tinker with that a little bit.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Have you seen anything this week.
Speaker 11 (16:33):
Where maybe scheme wise, philosophy wise, has anything changed as
far as that defensive weak Yeah.
Speaker 10 (16:39):
I think the coaches is, you know, wanna make it simple. Uh,
they want they wanna they want us to go out
there and play, and they're doing their best job. They're
putting the best game plan they can and it's on
us to go out there and execute. So uh, they've
been doing a great job so far.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
Okay, with that betting on you being lost in year
and an adopted being traded, I mean you didn't already
feel like on this deep that secondary has to that
kind of ship of the spirit.
Speaker 10 (17:02):
Yeah, I think I think every group has like its
own energy, you know, like like the game is one
up front, everybody knows that, and then the linebackers have
their own type of energy, you know, the defense have that,
the dbs have their own type of energy. So I
think I think it's time for everybody just to take
it up with one notch, you know. And I think
a lot of guys understand that. And uh, just like
(17:22):
how I said earlier, just going back to being us,
you know, going out there and flying around, having fun
and competing at the end of the day, no matter
what it is or what the case may be, just
being the defense that we want to be.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Okay, there's a personnel changes the trade bringing in some
of new guys, does it kind of drive on the
point of doing everything possible to get the thing turn
turned around and pointing get the right directions to kind of.
Speaker 8 (17:42):
Drive on that point.
Speaker 10 (17:42):
Yeah, I think, uh, I think it does. You know,
I think some guys can. I guess this was like
my first time like kind of going through it. You know,
like it don't happen in college. Like I woke up
today and I was like, dang, Like there's two new
faces in the room, you know, So it's it's a
little different, but like you realize that it's your job,
you know, like there's a sense of urgency that goes
behind it. But you know, like the coaches have one
(18:05):
hundred percent faith in us, one hundred percent trust in us,
and we have one hundred percent trust in.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Them as well.
Speaker 10 (18:09):
So just really going out there and figuring out as
the team as a defense, offense, special team is what
we need to do on how to get it done.
Speaker 8 (18:18):
A football fans know that traditions matter. They're what inspire
us to make our masa in Tostedo's the traditional way,
starting with whole corn kernels, no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives,
all to give you that perfect crunch. Discover your next
tradition this football season. Head to the store, grab your
Tostedo's team bag and scan the code for a chance
to score an epic experience with the Baltimore Ravens. Tostitos
tradition matters.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
In the locker room today, we heard from a handful
of key players, including Better and outside linebacker Kyle vandid.
Speaker 7 (18:50):
We have a standard. We've had a standard of being
one of the best the last two years and it's
not close to that. So we got to do more
and be better about getting back to rushing at a
high level. We also need to get ourselves into situations
to be able to do that. We haven't got ourselves
in enough situations to really get after the quarterback. You know,
(19:13):
we've had a lot of second and ones, a lot
of third and ones, a lot of fourth and ones.
We haven't put ourselves in a good enough position on
first and second down to get in those longer, yadder situations.
So hopefully we can we can start to do that.
I apologize if you were asking, yeah, I got like
one one or two left. Sorry you I've been going
(19:35):
a little bit.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
I'm just you may haven't asked for ready, But what
what was the reaction in the in the room when
you find out that you know, one of your not
only a player on the team, but one of.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
The Yeah, you know, first, I always thinking about the person, right,
let's take football out of it. A lot of goes
into it when you get traded. I've been traded personally,
and you know, it takes a lot little bit. You're
you're in a little bit of a shock, you know.
(20:04):
And I'm sure Doff was and been able to text
real quick, but you know, hopefully we'll have a conversation
on him to obviously get settled first and foremost just
want him to be okay as a person, like, hey,
it's part of the deal, you know. Also excited for him.
But at the same time, I've also had the teammate
who's got traded here. He's been my teammate previously. A
(20:27):
Low he or a low is his nickname. You know,
I'm excited for him. He's going to help us out.
A very good football player. He plays football, and I'm
excited for him to come into our locker room, be
a leader right away and get to work. And you know,
hopefully I don't know, but hopefully he's a help on Sunday,
because I think he's going to be able to help
(20:47):
us out.
Speaker 8 (20:48):
The man's camp.
Speaker 11 (20:51):
Fag or maybe even just a wake up rob but
anything to improve what's happening.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Yeah, I mean, I definitely gotta go with the wake
up call. I can't control those things. I can only
control what I do on the football field as well
as be able to communicate to help others around me,
and that's kind of what I'm focused on. But it
definitely is a wake up call for those that haven't
been in the business a while. But for me, you know,
I always just try to focus on what I can control,
(21:21):
and that's continue to do what my job requirements are.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Actually heard from rookie outside linebacker Mike Green, we have.
Speaker 13 (21:39):
A scheme that we have to follow and whatever our
coaches are asking us to do from enough, of course
do it. And I know, like me and a lot
of guys want to go out there and just ball out,
but it's gonna come eventually. We just gotta keep doing
what we're doing and and everything's gonna work out.
Speaker 10 (21:55):
Not that the sense of emergency for yourself wasn't there,
but now you have another opportunity to see more time
with trained How much more now goes on your shoulders?
Speaker 7 (22:04):
And are you looking to or produce.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
On the fields.
Speaker 13 (22:08):
Yeah, I think the urgency is going to be a
little bit more, of course, just because it's just one
less guy. But I've been ready since I got here,
and it's been a pleasure to be playing like as
a rookie so fast, and and I'm just going to
continue to build. I know, like like I previously said,
like the stats and everything, they're gonna come eventually. I
just got to continue to do what the coaches are
(22:28):
asking me to do. And and now, yeah, everything will
be fine with the start of the speed pats.
Speaker 11 (22:33):
I mean, how would you describe a ton of good,
the morale, the mindset? I mean, are you guys frustrated
to who? How would you describe the mindset right now?
Speaker 13 (22:44):
I think it's just we we're all aware of there's
just little things like knicks picks here and there that
that we just have to clean up. And and when
you look at when you actually watch the whole game
and see what everybody's doing, like for the most part,
everybody's doing the right thing, but it's just like little
techniques and little like things that that guys are just
(23:05):
like messing up. It's just, uh, it hurts us big time,
and so once we clean up just these little tiny things, uh,
it will be great.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Like as a rookie, it's your first time work.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
But when when the teammates straight to just kind of elevate.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
The sense of even more.
Speaker 13 (23:19):
Yeah, yeah, we kind of just talked about this.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (23:20):
It it increases the urgency of course, because there's one
less guy, and uh, you're expected to play, you're expected
to fill roles, and you're expected to do exactly what you're.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Asked to do.
Speaker 13 (23:30):
So so I've just been ready since I've gotten here,
and and just everybody else in the in our linebacker room,
they're also aware of of our situations and know that
we're one guy less. So everybody's role is going to increase.
And I think we're ready and we're prepared. So we'll
get rolling.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Mexed up as wide receiver or shot bait there.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Set without Lamar on Sunday.
Speaker 11 (24:00):
Uh, what's kind of your your thoughts on how the
offense performed against the Texas.
Speaker 12 (24:07):
I would say poorly. I've s feel like we still
got a lot of work to do, a lot of
growing to do. So I think that's what we focus
on right now. I think that's the only way.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
To look at it.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
We've heard the Harvest talk about, like yuays, trying to
find that rhythm, consistent rhythm from your from where you said, like,
what do you guys need to do to find I
don't know that rhythm what you do where you've play
to play.
Speaker 12 (24:26):
I just feel like we gotta trust each other, trust
to plan, I know, trust what we got in and
at the end of the day, we just got to
do our job.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
It sounds simple, but what it's what.
Speaker 12 (24:34):
It all boils down to everybody involved. I mean, we
got all the players that we need, We got all
the you know what I'm saying, the weapons, so we
just gotta put it all together.
Speaker 6 (24:42):
We're shout is a tough under press during times like
this when it's a lot of things.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Are going wrong and we kind of struggling, and you
know you need.
Speaker 6 (24:50):
To put up voids press as far as press is,
try too hard and kind of get out, Uh we
get out of your game and good every thing.
Speaker 12 (24:56):
Yeah, I I would say so. I think we trying
to do a good job with you know, staying composed.
But you know, we understand where we're at and we
understand the task. Then you know what I'm saying, we
gotta do the whole that we gotta get out of. So,
I mean, we're all grown, you know what I'm saying.
So we'll go play football and you know, hopefully get
out of this hole.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
What happen?
Speaker 7 (25:15):
What happened to uh in that class interception?
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Uh, the one where you were you were running.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
On on on that route.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Oh, I looked up for the ball, it wasn't there.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
I looked down.
Speaker 12 (25:23):
I thought he'd threw it away, and you know what
I'm saying, it was too late by the time, Uh
like trying to catch up to the ball. So wow,
I apologize for what it look like to the fans,
But it wasn't a give up on the ball. If anything,
I I wanted a little more. So you know what
I'm saying. They helped us tenure win games into whatnot.
So uh, you know what I'm saying, I just gotta
keepruning Sea keeping.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
They're that kind of like a encapsulation of the kind
of a day you're like everything's going wrong, and then
that is that just did it feel.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
That way at these times?
Speaker 12 (25:51):
Yeah? That kind of just summed up the game, summed
up you know how we felt. You know what I'm
saying that that play wasn't gonna change anything, but I
could have went you know what I'm saying a little
harder and made it, you know what I'm saying better
than what it looked like.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
So yeah, just they all around for us, So we
just trying to be better all around.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
You haven't been a part of games like that since
you've been here.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Really, this was that just like shocking or kicking around?
Speaker 12 (26:13):
Yea, yeah, all of this is kind of kind of
shocking to me personally. Uh, even to the organization, not
just myself. The fans got every right to feel how
they feel. They expect excellence, and you know what I'm saying,
it's it's our job to deliver that. And you know
what I'm saying, we're not uphild in the standard right now.
So we deserve all the criticism, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 13 (26:31):
We take it.
Speaker 12 (26:32):
We'll handle it, but you know, we just gotta fix it.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
What'sh all to that? How how big is this game?
You know?
Speaker 12 (26:37):
To try to win this go and for forward to Violet,
They're all important, but this is definitely important.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Man.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
We need to win to get in this win call column.
Speaker 12 (26:44):
So we can try to get some momentum, you know
what I'm saying, and carry out through the year no
matter what it looks like.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
It's still a week the week, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 12 (26:51):
League, and we can always find a way to get
back in this thing.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
And if anybody can do it, I've really believe that,
you know what I'm saying, this team can do it
for sure.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
What's kind of the message the locker room after a
players traded for first round taking a DAFE. You know,
how does the locker kind of take that use?
Speaker 12 (27:07):
Honestly, it's hard to deal with, Like we focus on
the next game and it hurts, you know what I'm saying,
to see your brother go for me. I was drafted
with DAF, so you know what I'm saying, So to
see them go away is is weird, you know what
I'm saying. But hopefully it's for the best, you know
what I'm saying, both parties involved. So now, man, we
(27:27):
got to come back in today like we did practice
work and keep going.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
We also heard from the newest member of the Ravens,
safety Alohi Gilman. The Ravens acquired him in the trade
on Tuesday, where they sent a dafe oh Way to
Los Angeles and got Gilman in return, and here's what
he had to say during his time with the media.
Welcome to Narry.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
One of the last twenty four hours been like for you, oh,
twenty four hours.
Speaker 14 (27:58):
I've been awake for about twenty one of them. It's
been a long day still processing everything. Uh, you know,
it's been a been cool to be here and everyone's
been you know, open up their arms and just showing
the hospitality. And I have a little bit of history
with Maryland. I was at the Naval Academy out of
(28:19):
high school and so it's a that's a special place
in my heart. But I'm happy to be out here
and get this thing rolling.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
So he's talking with Kyle.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Hamilton and next hearing your name, Grex.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
So I guess what has it been like getting to
know him and how it's even.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Helping you catch up?
Speaker 14 (28:33):
Yeah, yeah, you know, KM, that's that's my brother. He
was a young freshman my senior year at Notre Dame.
Speaker 15 (28:40):
He was.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Having a hard time as a freshman, wanted to quit,
but I have to keep him in shape. And now
he's an all pro.
Speaker 14 (28:48):
So you know, I'm happy to be here. Uh, Kyle's
been great, great friend, great player. Get that, you know,
Notre Dame connection going again, and I'm excited for what's ahead.
Speaker 9 (28:59):
Take football of it, just a human element.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
What is it like to think one day you're playing
somewhere else in.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
The next now you're here.
Speaker 14 (29:05):
Yeah, it's uh, you know, something you can't really prepare for.
It's been tough on me and my family. I have
young I have a young daughter and another son on
the way, you know, wife, So that's been tough. You're
in one facility one day and you get pulled out
and you're on a plane in three hours and throw
(29:27):
a bunch of stuff in your bag, say goodbye and
hit the road. So you know, it's a whirlwind of emotions. Obviously,
I spent a good amount of time with the Chargers.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
My whole career, six years.
Speaker 14 (29:36):
So it's you know, a little a little uh bittersweet,
but uh, you know, I've come to a great organization
and I'm super grateful for that because you know, they
could have sent me anywhere and you know, being able
to be here at the Ravens and you know they
wanted me to be here to help this team win.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
I'm excited to do that and whatever I can do
to be the best version of myself and to get
this thing going between the Chargers and the Ravens. And
they tell you anything that you could expect here.
Speaker 14 (30:03):
I mean, you know, Harball brothers. You know, I'm excited
to see the similarities and differences. Obviously, I got a
lot of respect for both of them, you know, Jim
Harbaugh at the Chargers and then John obviously the history
that he's made here and built.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
This great organization. So you know, I'm excited for it
for sure. Just what you what do you expect to
bring this? You can see how you could fit in.
Speaker 14 (30:28):
Yeah, you know, I think you know, I can bring flexibility,
just bringing that next level of anticipation, anticipation and uh
you know, just being a playmaker out there, bringing instincts
and you know, passion to the game. I think obviously
I said I got some chemistry with Kyle. Hopefully we
can get him the better best ops possible to for
(30:48):
him to thrive and flourish. And you know, I just
you know, just being the being the best version of
me being a ball, being a guy who's always around
the ball, and just commanding the defense and you know,
I'm excited to do that.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
He is Jeff tj Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Did he give you a recognition about the Raisins.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Yeah yeah, Tony Jefferson. Obviously that's my brother. Shout out
to t Jeff.
Speaker 14 (31:12):
He's uh, since he's been up the charges, he's always
wrapping the Ravens and I used to get on him
for it and now I'm here, so I gave him
a call right.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
Before I got on the plane. That's my brother.
Speaker 14 (31:24):
I've had a lot of great memories with him, and
he has so much respect for this organization and he's like, man,
you're gonna love it, and uh, you know, I'm just
excited to.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Be here where I load your Actually were just working with.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Track say that one time.
Speaker 15 (31:37):
Impressions Tragana, Oh yeah, obviously Coach mganell, he's been around
the game for for decades and uh, you know, just
being able to chop it up with him learn more
about football.
Speaker 14 (31:49):
It's obviously really early, but there's a guy that I
can learn from. You know, I'm been in the league
for a little bit, but I'm I'm always trying to
get better and learn and grow and Chuck mcgonell is
a great place to start and just learn and grow
my game.
Speaker 10 (32:03):
And numb realistically load your plate for Sunday, especially when it's.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
An offense like the Rams.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Oh man.
Speaker 14 (32:08):
I mean luckily, I've you know, had open practices with
the Rams almost every year that I played with the Chargers,
so I got a pretty good.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Understanding of what they kind of do.
Speaker 14 (32:19):
You know, I think the coaching staff here is doing
a great job of trying to slowly install things and
see how we can you know, tie the knots together.
And you know, it's it's exciting for me because that's
what I do as a football player. Man, this is
my craft. So I'm gonna be up all night. I've
been already up.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
So he's gonna keep it rolling and just keep getting better.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Help similar this defense too?
Speaker 6 (32:41):
How similar is this defense the Chargers obviously with what
they run, having having Ravens fingerprints over.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
The Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, when I first
when the.
Speaker 14 (32:51):
Coach Minner and coach Harball came to the Chargers, there
was a lot of Ravens film that we watched. I'm
trying to learn a little bit about the techniques, schemes,
personnels and whatnot, So a lot of carryover a lot
of crossover. Obviously, every coordinator has their own you know, philosophies,
techniques or small things that they like to add their
(33:12):
wrinkles to.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
Learned a lot from Coach Minner, but I'm.
Speaker 14 (33:16):
Excited to work with Coach Orr and you know, this whole,
this whole defense of a unit, you know, has a
lot of you know, a lot of talent, and whatever
I can do to add to it, you know, I'll
be here for it.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
