Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to to the Ravens Press Pass podcast. It is Wednesday,
September twenty fourth. The Ravens are gearing up for a
Week four matchup on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs.
They were on the practice field today and after practice
we had a chance to hear from head coach John Harball.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Good seeing everybody, appreciate everybody being here. Good start to
the week, short turn around, obviously, but right back to it.
Guys are in good spirits and working hard today. We're
looking forward to the opportunity on Sunday to get at
it in Kansas City with the Chiefs, who we have
great respect for, been in a lot of fights and
battles there against them, and you know, it's always a
(00:41):
big challenge. So we're gonna get ready and be prepared
to go play our best football game of the year.
That's what we're hoping to do. And as we're working
for what questions you have after falling for.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
One and two, and like I said, Kant City is
obviously a tough place to play. It was kind of
the message that you've kind of told the players out
in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Yeah, we're just locked in on trying to play the
best football we can. You know, we're still in the
process of of of developing ourselves as a football team.
You know, we do a lot of good things, and
we do a lot of not good things. That's the
way it is for every team in the league right now.
Nobody's playing perfect football. It's early in the season. We're
playing some good football teams. I mean that's a good
thing because that forces you to be your best and
(01:24):
you can't worry too much about any kind of record
or anything like that at this point. There's a long
season and a lot of games to be played. But
what kind of team we become is really the important
thing right now, and that's really what we're focused on.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
How do you have to looking at the film? How
do you ever play the defense? From what you've seen?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
We'll be okay, we'll be fine. There's a lot of
real simple things that we didn't do very well at times.
You know, we'll have the same play really against the
same defense two different times, and one time it's no
game because we do you know, we're pretty much exactly
where we're supposed to be, and another time we're not
where we're supposed to be. And I think part of
(02:01):
it's just trying to do too much sometimes. I mean
sometimes we try to do more than our job and
that's not really required, you know. So that's playing with
a little more, just just calmness and belief in the
whole structure and the eleven the ten guys around you.
Then also tackling in the back end, you know. That's
the other thing. It's like those runs they shouldn't go
to what they did. I mean, those runs should be tackled,
you know, eight ten yards if they break through the line,
(02:24):
and we're focusing on that as well, John, especially.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
With the run defense.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Is that sort of when you get together as a teams,
that's something where the coaches have to kind of tell
hard truth or is the kind of situation where guys
have already looked at the film that are already sort
of self assessing and taking a fund of well.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
I think it's both. Yeah, the guys definitely self assess
and definitely look at it and they've seen it. And
then the coaches we all speak hard truth all the
time about you know, everything we do. We are one
of our biggest points of emphasis here is we confront
everything that has to do with football, you know, and
it's it's what you got to do. You know, You've
got to be right out about it. It's you know,
we're a football team, you know, so everything that has
(03:03):
to do with football is going to get talked about
and uh and work don because we all want to
be on the same page and we want to we
want to play our best football together, you know, and
it's a team sport. Everybody's got to be working together.
And that's what you're chasing all the time. And you're
doing it againstn opponent that's trying to separate you. You know,
they're trying to move you out of a gap or
a hole. They're trying to you know, fool you and
get you out of position, you know, if you're on defense.
(03:25):
That's the competitive nature of the game. And so it
makes it so great and so it's a big challenge.
It's tough to do, and communication and being willing to
confront every aspect of the football is really the important thing.
We don't take anything for granted.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
That way.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
We talk about everything, We look at everything, we self
assess all the time. We try to be our own
best critic at you know, in every aspect of what
we do. Coaches and players and try to embrace that.
So our guys uniquely do a real good job of that.
Like I really like our team that way. I think
they're I think they're really, really, really good at that,
And that's why I feel very confident that we're going
(03:59):
to continue to improve as a football team.
Speaker 7 (04:01):
John with you know, with some of the simple things
you're talking about, and you know, adjustment they're trying to
do too much. Is that a matter of adjustments in
the game or is that a matter of just simple
execution by the guys field.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
It's execution on the field. Yeah, it's definitely execution. That's
why I say it's It's not the simplest thing in
the world. It's not like you're going against colones. You know,
you're going against really good players who are executing really
good schemes really well, and it's happening really fast and
processing football is a challenging thing. And you're up against
a good physical opponent. That's that's you know, that's playing well.
So that's football. That's a National Football League. That's how
(04:35):
it is. And to think you're going to go out
there every game and be perfect, we actually do think that.
We actually try to do that. You know, that's that's
our goal, but we we weren't up to par in
the run defense part of it. So we'll look at
it and we'll fight real hard to get better.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
About non vie situation. And you're concerned this maybe a
low in term thing.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Well, yeah, I would say I am concerned about it,
but I'm not really in a position to comment out
right now and haven't been given the the okay to
comment on it at this point. So he's not gonna
play this week, I can tell you that, and we
aren't gonna have to see going forward when when we know,
when they know what they need to know.
Speaker 8 (05:12):
John, we noticed there were two defensive linemen added to
the practice squad today. Are you concerned with the other
guys that missed today? Might be an avehiable trivial stones
with BRODDI.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Washington, you know, I mean, anything's possible. I'm not per se,
but they're you know, they're nursing some things. We're going
less than forty eight hours out from the end of
the game, so that's uh. I have a good feeling
about those guys, But you know, we'll have to wait
and see.
Speaker 9 (05:37):
John talk talked about run defense on the other side
of the ball. You guys probably have not run the
ball the way that you wanted to the last couple
of weeks when you looked at the tip of their
similar things, just a lot of details to be cleaned
up or what was your takeaway on them?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah, you know it wasn't really no. I mean, there's
there's definitely things that we can clean up and be
better at and be on the same page about that
we'll work on. We can block things better, you know. Again,
it's a committed to stopping it, you know, but we've
also run it against that quite a bit in the past,
so we don't really say that that's going to preclude
us from running the ball just because they put a
defense up there that's meant to stop the run. So
(06:12):
it's a lot of the similar, same things. I mean,
it's just a matter of just trying to improve and
get better and work hard and be the best we
can be. We're against a good opponent, you know, so,
and we've got another good opponent this week.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Now.
Speaker 9 (06:23):
As you watch Patrick Mahomes, now you have maybe compared
to early on, how's he evolved into the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
That he is.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
I mean, has he evolved. That means it seems like
he's always been great. You know, I can't remember a
time that he wasn't. Patrick Mahomes, he's the same quarterback
to me, he's you know, I'm sure he's I'm sure
he's improved in some little areas that Andy could I
could tell you about. But he's the same problem when
you try to defend him as the same issues. He's
you know, just capable of making incredible plays. I think
(06:53):
they build the offense around him really well. It's also
you know, well principled offense in terms of just fundamental
foot and all that, but it's built for for the quarterback,
and the quarterback operates really well in it, and obviously
it's just talented and makes a bunch of plays and
we're gonna have to deal with it.
Speaker 10 (07:09):
John, What issues are you saying with the red zone
offense to.
Speaker 9 (07:12):
This to this point?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
What issues if I see with the red zone offense? Well,
we try to try to score touchdowns as best we can.
You know, Uh, we got inside the five yard line.
I think we didn't. They stopped us in some runs.
That's the biggest thing I saw last week. We got
stopped on you know, coming off the one yard line.
So we're disappointed with that. We'd like to get that
ball in there. We didn't. We didn't block those plays
particularly well. I think, you know, we got outplayed probably
(07:38):
at point of attack a couple of times right there.
And that's what happened along those line.
Speaker 7 (07:41):
Considering any changes on the offensive line or you you
kind of look what you haven.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
The offensive line. You know, you look at the grades.
I look at coaches Coach warre ups grades that they're
pretty good. I mean, if you look at the whole game,
coach had those guys playing pretty darn well. And uh
so that that one series was disappointing. But we just
try to get better and improve and that's what we're
doing it.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
I'm sorry up.
Speaker 11 (08:02):
Derek Henry said he's his own worst critic when talking
about the fumblings this season. When it's a player like
that with that resume, how do you even coach up
or talk to him and discuss moving forward to.
Speaker 12 (08:14):
Not do that?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Yeah, I mean he Derek doesn't need that, you know,
Like as he said, he's his own worst critic. I
like to say he's his own best critic. You know,
I think he is very, very accountable. And you know,
when somebody cares so much about what they're doing and
he's and they're so so so accomplished and so talented
and so good and work so hard as a coach,
(08:37):
you just can't worry about that. I don't worry about that,
you know. I think that he wants he wants to
be He wants to be his best, even more than
I wanted to be great, and I wanted to be great.
Really a lot, I mean, is a really great to
a high high degree that I want all of our
players to play at the highest level. And when you've
got players that feel even more strongly about than the
coach does, well, they should because it's their career, right,
(08:58):
They're the owner of their career. But he certainly does.
And I'm not worried about Derek Henry at all.
Speaker 12 (09:04):
John, to go back to what you were talking about
earlier about the oh well having a pretty good.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Grade of George Warho. That being said, you know, seven
sacks of Lamar.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
Is there something structural that can be just in the
offense to put a little lessening on him and some
of those brought.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Backs, Well, I mean, there's a lot of things that
you do you know, we look at all those things.
As a coach. We're gonna turn over every stone in
terms of what we we have a lot of good
we have a lot of offensive options. There's a lot
of things we do in our offense. And I'm sure
that we'll be that We'll be pursuing, you know, in
any one game. I mean, that's what you do. You know,
that's that's a game to game thing. And and we've
been down this road before. I think we had the
same conversation last year. So we'll be we'll be, we'll
(09:41):
be fine. You know, we're gonna play really good on offense.
I promise you we're gonna play really good. So our
offensive line is gonna play really good. And they're gonna
block people too because we're gonna work really hard at it.
And we have great coaches and great players and and uh,
I believe in those guys.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
Practice Price likely hopes to have him perhaps in the
lineup this week.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yes, yes, I do. What else to say? How big
of a role could he have? He could have a
huge role, Jerry. He could be out there every snap,
you know, or he might not be. You know, it's
hard to say, but uh, he's out there practicing. I mean,
just sell seriousness. He's out there practicing. He looks good.
(10:22):
He had a good day, but we weren't at full
speed today, so we'll see how he does tomorrow when
we get up to speed, and I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker 10 (10:31):
Have you felt the need to be any more involved,
I guess than usual with the on the defensive side
of the balls at this point.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm I'm always involved in the defense.
I don't know if I could be more involved, you know,
it's uh with every part. I try to be that
kind of a head coach, try to be involved in
everything offense, defense and special teams, but also give people
an opportunity to do their job, you know, and and
give them the lead way to to to make make
a lot of decisions, which our guys do a great job.
But it's always done in a conversation, you know. We're
(10:59):
always again we're talking confronting everything we do. So I'm
not worried about our defense either. I mean, I'm I'm
very determined just like all the guys are, to pursue excellence.
That's what we do, you know, So we're not wringing
our hands about it bitterly disappointed. Sure, of course, you know,
but we play next week. You know, we'd be playing
(11:20):
on Sunday, and we'd be playing the Sunday after that too,
and the Sunday after that, and all those Sundays are
going to be what determines the season. So we know
we can do something about it. You go out there
and you go play, and you play well, so our
coaches know what they're doing, our players know what they're doing,
and we'll be out there competing.
Speaker 13 (11:37):
Well.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
We will show up, I promise you, and we will
be ready to play. And that's how we do it.
And the track record is proven along those lines.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
With as many explosives as you had with Derrick Henry
and even Lamar.
Speaker 14 (11:50):
Is it surprising that the down to down it doesn't
see up.
Speaker 6 (11:53):
The running game hasn't been you know what it was
like even or the last year.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Well, I think it's it's not. I think it's hard.
You know, you can't if the expectation that that you
that you're that you're kind of if the standard, if
you're gonna set the standard at the expectation that is
going to be perfects, you're gonna run for three hundred
yards every week, and if you don't do that, then
then you're not up to par. I just think that's
kind of unrealistic. You know, there's gonna be games where
(12:18):
you're gonna you're gonna run the ball. There's gonna be
games you're gonna pass the ball. It's gonna be games
you're gonna get the ball downfield. There's gonna be games
they're not gonn let you do that, you're gonna throw
it short. They're gonna be games where you execute more
consistently than other games. They're gonna be games where you
have better game plans than other games. But you know,
if we weren't putting up points, probably be talking about that.
But we are putting up points, so that's good too.
(12:41):
Do we want to run better, You're done, right, we do.
We also want to complete more passes and we want
to we want to have more time and possession. But
we look at all that stuff, you know, very very
thoroughly every every every game plan and try to do
the best we can with it when we go out
there and play. But you gotta go out there and play.
It's tough, you know, it's competitive competitively, I'm said, great, thanks.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
We also heard from quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
Good Lamar going here into Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
That's one of the few places that you play multiple
pints and have not come out with with the with
it L Does that any ads?
Speaker 4 (13:19):
You know, the re not being a win there?
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Does that any add any actual motivation going in the era?
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Ad?
Speaker 15 (13:24):
Uh?
Speaker 16 (13:25):
Like I always say, you know, each and other week,
I'm gonna be motivated no matter who the opponent is,
no matter where it is, I'm just trying to win.
But Nah, not really, I'm already motivate.
Speaker 17 (13:36):
Mar.
Speaker 14 (13:37):
We had a chance to work the film for Monday night,
and you see more opportunities maybe to run with the football,
and we think that times maybe will hold on to
the football a little kid, all knowing that you could around. Nah.
Speaker 16 (13:48):
I didn't look at the film and think I should
have rant sometimes or I don't think I was holding
on to the ball if an't think I was trying
to let the routes develop, you know. But they did
a great job with the pass the rest of their
their stunts and the rust the cover uh linebackers, you know,
diving out my feet and stuff like that. They did
did a pretty good job. You just gotta execute better
next time more.
Speaker 8 (14:08):
I know in the past a few years ago you
refer to the chief says the Ravens kryptonite at one point. Yeah,
how do you kind of keep those past games out
of this week?
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Uh, it's in the past.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
You know.
Speaker 16 (14:21):
You can't bring what happened back, what never win, you know,
to this year. We just gotta lock in on what's
it here right now? You know, just getting better in practice.
Watch film one of those guys, watch ourselves sales, scout
of ourselves, just get after it.
Speaker 6 (14:35):
Come Sunday. Well, what did Detract do well with the
poor man pass rush for Monday?
Speaker 13 (14:40):
Uh?
Speaker 16 (14:40):
Like I just said, you know, the te stunts, it's
it's not nothing we'd never seen before.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
You know.
Speaker 16 (14:44):
I just feel like we need to do a better,
uh better job at executing in the marks.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Mean, Monday night was not the best outcome.
Speaker 8 (14:51):
What is the vibe in the locker room you as
a leader of this group, h what is the message
facing a big opponent like they got to.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
See the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (14:58):
Oh, we gotta lock in, you know.
Speaker 16 (15:01):
I I feel like last three games, even even with
the win versus Cleveland, we was we started off slow,
you know, We just gotta play how we play ball,
you know, play football, play for even football, like I said, self,
scout ourselves and just get ready for Sunday.
Speaker 6 (15:14):
Mine and the past is the past.
Speaker 10 (15:16):
But just starting off last year one and two does
and chaning that year kind of turning turning around as
the year went on?
Speaker 6 (15:23):
Does that?
Speaker 10 (15:23):
I guess is that something that you guys are able
to look back on now being in that same spot again.
Speaker 16 (15:29):
Yeah, and then going back, Uh, I wanna say twenty nineteen,
we was like two and two start the season as well,
you know, so I just.
Speaker 6 (15:38):
R I I play week the week.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
I don't.
Speaker 16 (15:40):
I don't really care about what happened in the past,
you know, i'd uh, I'll be mad about the situation,
don't get me wrong when it happens. But we gotta
get ready for Chiefs. We can't dwell long, you know,
old history. Gotta worry about what's going on now.
Speaker 7 (15:51):
What kind of challenge do they present to you when
you're you know, from the picture standpoint, when you're you're
playing against them, whom the Chiefs? What kind of child
do they pet to you?
Speaker 6 (16:03):
You know, go cover zero, uh cover six?
Speaker 16 (16:06):
Sometimes caught us invertu they do it all, you know,
but we just gotta execute, stay uh positive, ahead of
the sticks and get first down, put points on the board.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Well you you you mentioned actually getting on ny different ocasions.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Do you just feel like if if you guys play a.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Your kind of game or the the whatever they or
that that's what.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
You do, that's the focus.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
So that's what that's what they did itself.
Speaker 14 (16:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:30):
Absolutely.
Speaker 16 (16:30):
You know, when we playing to our level of football,
we scoring non stop, you know, no matter who we
playing against. And I feel like one once we get
to that level, Scott's alemba more.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I do you know, big matter Beck plays on the
defensive side the ball, but your giantis that he's not
playing this back and there their concerns about yeah, that
the back injury.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
I mean when you see a keymate going through that,
h you know, how does that kind of make you well.
Speaker 16 (16:55):
I don't know about all that, you know, but uh,
coach say he's out, he said he's outs out. Well,
we just gonna have to uh win it for him,
you know, go in there and try to win for him.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
That's all. I don't know about all the how long
and stuff like that. I don't know about all that.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Kind of crazy. You think you can you leave the
NFL and scoring but' sitting there one or two?
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Uh you said that, that's what do you make of that?
Speaker 16 (17:18):
Put more points on the board, try to score more.
You know, we only can worry about ourselves. You know
it's a team game, but we only can ry about offense.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Labar, they camera show if you camping Derek on the
side of night.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
That's the point during the game.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
How do you think you responds to.
Speaker 12 (17:33):
A situation like this where he's putting a lot of
pressure on himself points and figuring out themselves for the
pump over.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
You know, I feel like it's a capricorn thing.
Speaker 16 (17:41):
You know, you wanna win and once things don't, once
you feel like you're a part of something like might
be a loss. You know, you felt like you did
something wrong. You gonna always put the blame on yourself.
And like I said, uh, after the games, uh Monday,
it was like six minutes and a half left. You know,
we still could have executed and made something happen. We
can't find 'em for that, you know, can mess up.
Speaker 13 (18:02):
Mark.
Speaker 7 (18:02):
Just going back to what you're saying about, you know,
letting rouse developing stuff. How tough is that decision whether
to run or throw in in in that moment for
you just from a you know, is that something you
have to be conscious about or is it more of
a feel thing? And and do you feel as fast
as you've you've always beat.
Speaker 16 (18:23):
Yeah, I'm playing football, you know. I'm not thinking, Oh,
should I run here? Should I throw it here?
Speaker 14 (18:28):
Now?
Speaker 16 (18:28):
I'm just like I said, letting to play developed And
if it's a lane for me to run, I'm gonna
take that lane.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
And if not, I'm gonna let my.
Speaker 16 (18:34):
Trying to let my receiver get open much as I could,
I can't throw it from the pocket.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
When I can't throw it from.
Speaker 16 (18:38):
The pocket with the pocket collapsing, it'd be attention to ground,
especially when no one going on outbreaking routes, you know.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
So I'd rather not take fifteen yards back.
Speaker 16 (18:45):
I'd rather take that little five yard sack ten yard
sack instead of fifteen or when you're the point coming.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Off with the tough games a team.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
Three guys, how important is the the.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
The leadership kind of team like yourself to kind of
set the tone on the rocker and find.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
The gold you new for For.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
I feel like extremely it's extremely important.
Speaker 13 (19:03):
You know.
Speaker 16 (19:04):
Uh, guys looked at me, you know, for that leadership role,
you know, So I'm gonna try to do the best
of my ability to let those guys know its own. Like,
you know, we gotta tighten up even though we wanted to.
We was there last year, but it's that's not predative
be sitting at you know, you trying to It's a
long season ahead of us, but we gotta just lock in.
Speaker 9 (19:22):
You gross to score quickly a lot this year, which
is obviously a great thing, But are there times in
a game where you would like a longer drive and
more sustained drive to keep your jfumps off the.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Field a little better?
Speaker 9 (19:33):
Can you not really afford to think about it that way?
Speaker 6 (19:35):
Nah, I don't think about it like that. You know.
Speaker 16 (19:36):
If anything, let's score again fast, you know, if that
team is having a go a game on a opposing
team offense is having a day, we still gotta put
points on the board. We can't rely on slowing down,
cause go back to Bill's game. When we did that,
those guys made a comeback. So we just gotta do
our job and put points on the board each and
every job.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
If we could.
Speaker 10 (19:55):
How closet do you feel like you guys are to
you know, execute them the way that you feel like
you know you can.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
I feel like we're close.
Speaker 10 (20:02):
You know.
Speaker 16 (20:02):
We just gotta be consistent, if anything, you know, cause
we do it. We put thirty some points up uh
against the Lions, you know, put forty points up Buffalo Cleveland.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
We just gotta be consistent. That's the biggest thing for
us right now.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Good in the locker room today, we heard from running
back Derrick Henry.
Speaker 15 (20:24):
I'm still pissed off, mad at myself. I'm my worst critic,
So you know, I I don't try to harp on
it too much. You know, I talk to my family
at people that you know, I get advice from my teammates.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
Leaning on them.
Speaker 15 (20:41):
But at the same time, it's a problem I gotta
get fixed. So you know, I'm working on them. I'm
working as hard as I can, you know, to you know,
let this issue be resolved. And you know it's it's
tough right now, just the consecutive weeks back to back
to back, which is crazy.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
So y'all sell me in destruct cause I would just
like trouble leave just happened for a third time.
Speaker 15 (21:03):
But it's gotta go back to work and you know,
push forward or even though it's even though it's hard,
can't nobody to fix it about yourself.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
So you know, I gotta accept it like a man
everything that comes with it.
Speaker 15 (21:16):
You know, I I yourselp cause Mahar's hospility to take
care of the ball for this organization, right know you
U do you use?
Speaker 4 (21:22):
It's a new territory for ya. How do you approach
U it? And you've never been through something never never.
Speaker 15 (21:28):
Maybe it's just some something God woulda put me through,
and you know, maybe it's testing my face right now.
And uh just gotta keep keep believing and keep and
keep working.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I told uh my family the other day.
Speaker 15 (21:42):
You know, those tables turned and you now, this can't
turn my way, but when they.
Speaker 10 (21:47):
Do, I'll bewhere is it enough to keep it from
staying on your mind mentally?
Speaker 15 (21:53):
I mean it's just tough cause like you know the
situation that you know, it's how how it's happening, you know,
to get a buffalo and uh, Cleveland, by the grace
of God, we would cover that, but it was early
in the game. And then you know that one happened
late in the game and you know Critico situation. So
it's just situations that it's happening. And it's just like
I don't feel like I'm letting my teams out, which I
(22:15):
I don't wanna do. And you know it's everybody know
it's not happening on purpose, but it's a problem that
I gotta get fixed. And i'm'a go out there and
work every day to make sure that the problem is resolved.
But at the same time, it's it's still tough cause
you know, just two days ago.
Speaker 14 (22:31):
There case you make a judgments like I'm where you're
hold the ball or do you just think it's m
something where you just have to be more conscious of
it and who's around here?
Speaker 15 (22:39):
Yeah, I mean, you know definitely, you know, as runner,
make you going to hold the ball high and tight.
You know, it's it's embarrassing to me to be talking
about this cause happing this issue, but you know, you
gotta hold the ball high and tight to get away
from the defense, gets away from the the defender j
So you keep the ball and you know, we have
a thing we call raping car out here to you know,
have another arm around it to keep it protected to
(22:59):
keep from leaping something from getting to it. And you know,
I just gotta keep doing that in practice and know.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
That transition to the game. But just know I'm working.
Speaker 15 (23:08):
I'm working, and it's it's rough right now, but it's
gonna come back around, I promise.
Speaker 7 (23:13):
Does it provide like an extra sense of motivation for
you when you have those rare moments and.
Speaker 15 (23:19):
You're helping Jack and that kind of thing, I mean, yeah,
for sure, But we s stuff like that happens. I
feel like the week goes by slow, so you just
like waiting and itching, you know, for another opportunity. But
you know, I think that's just God put you in
the situation. Yeah, you know, to see how I respond
to it, and you know, I'm I'm ready to respond.
Speaker 9 (23:39):
Did you change up anything in your practice for team
or just more than second?
Speaker 10 (23:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (23:43):
No, I just gotta take care of the ball, That's
all it is. They're just kinda zooming out.
Speaker 12 (23:47):
I mean obviously that Buffalo game you lamar and the
ground game were really in a rough shot. Uh, the
last two weeks, I've been tougher for some various pactors
of both that. But what do you think this mof
needs to do the big picture. Gonna get back to
running the ball again the way you bringing once.
Speaker 15 (24:02):
But I just think just executing, uh, playing our style,
doing what we do that w what we have done
and what they've done around here for years, and you know,
just keep trusting and believing one another. We have everybody
to be explosive and you know, have big plays in
the running game and be physical.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Down Atlanta screamings. You just gotta go do it and
everybody practice is hard.
Speaker 15 (24:27):
Nobody's not tryna do it. It's just of you know,
executioners just gotta go out there and do that.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
That's just making forward. But everyoney can't city work people
from marriage.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
Is how big this game is or you gotta treat
it just.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Like any other. Hell nah, this is this is a
it's as a huge game.
Speaker 15 (24:43):
You know, we're we're wanting two. We don't wanna be
one and two and the same thing for them. And
the last year was a close game. You know, it
was a toll from going into over time. But you
know this team has been a dynasty.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
For a while now. They're solid on all three phases.
Speaker 15 (25:01):
Defense, I think they're solid from top to bottom, and
they got game records, so you know it's it's the
preparation is very key.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
This way to be prepared and you know.
Speaker 15 (25:13):
In practice, practice, execution and practice just so uh it relates.
It turns into to the game of us you know.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
Being able to make plays.
Speaker 15 (25:21):
But you know we gotta uh be focused and do
what we need to do to be ready for something.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Deactually played a lot of games in Kansas City over
your career. And if you like playing in an environment
like that.
Speaker 15 (25:32):
Yeah, I mean that the uh their fans and that
that stadium gets loud. So when you live for big
games like that, you know as a as a kid,
that's what you wanna play in environments like that.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
And uh yeah that that that stateum in the poshouse.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Next we heard from outside linebacker a Dafa lay.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
Oh you I is, do you feel like the team
is aware of not being able to beat him there?
Speaker 7 (25:56):
Or is that knock entry like your own uh or
your brother you mentioned you know obviously next man up
would Nobby going down.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
But what's your message?
Speaker 11 (26:06):
Would you lose, you.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Know, to the other guys, when you guys lose, somebody
back and caw.
Speaker 15 (26:10):
Or like you see Peter's defense, your message, Yeah, what's
your message is, you know, just to keep on going.
Speaker 13 (26:18):
Obviously, Uh, you know he's like he like I said,
he's a good player, you know, working that need him.
But God, you can't have that message to the guys
that you know are working, working their tails off and
trying to you know, dominate. So you gotta keep on
having co putting confidence into them and knowing that it's
the next man up mentality and you would be doing
him in the service if you were out here or not,
(26:39):
you know, playing hard, trying to get to the QB
or trying to get more t the TFLs and all
the things that he does. So next man up mentality,
that's what you gotta tell me.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
You got a chance that's off for him at all.
Speaker 13 (26:49):
Yeah, I talked to him. He was here, Uh a
few few days ago before the game Star.
Speaker 15 (26:52):
I talked to him. Well, it was just kind of
a neat in general conversation.
Speaker 13 (26:57):
I was just trying to get in his head to
see how he feels and everything. He feels good, just
trying to get back on the field.
Speaker 9 (27:02):
Dolphants.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I mean, it's September, but it's a really big games.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Upfield.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
How do you not think about that.
Speaker 12 (27:13):
What can you start aware?
Speaker 6 (27:14):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 13 (27:16):
You gotta just go out there and try to win
and then dominate. You can't think about, you know, the
stakes of what happens if you lose. Do they know
lose or you gotta I think that we're gonna be
the uh, the winners after the game. That's how you
get a carry and that's what's gonna happen. You can't
think about what the record's gonna.
Speaker 17 (27:32):
Be, as you can't as a defensive player with ma
Homes since you know him running towards the sideline can
be tricky, you know, slowing up or or or what not.
Is there any special conversation that goes into into it
with this game?
Speaker 13 (27:48):
I think one thing we we tagged on today was
just stay on your feet when he pump fakes, and
then when you get there, try to hit him legally
as legally as you can in today's the NFL. But
but you know, we gotta respect his playmaking ability. But
at the same time, he can be you be physical,
cause he's just a lot of things where he's running
out of bounds and he's trying to hit guys, So
(28:08):
we gotta be smart. But at the same time, you know,
just show him that, you know, we're not scared of.
Speaker 12 (28:14):
The right way to as a defender to respond to patch, right,
does that the feeling trying to pump fake?
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Is there a right way you're asking?
Speaker 13 (28:26):
I mean, just to try to hit him, like h
right here, and like I said, don't jump, He's gonna
try to pull the fake and savy stuff. So stick
to your techniquetta, feel the shoulder, don't don't patty your
feet cause that's when you're gonna try to dance with you.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
So just be lining, you know. I feel like that's
the best answer for you.
Speaker 17 (28:44):
Does your basketball background help with not taking a pump fake?
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (28:48):
It doesn't because I'm jumping and someone shooting, you know.
So yeah, i'm'a just try to run right through him. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
