Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to the Ravens Press Pass podcast. The Rams are
gearing up for the home opener against the Cleveland Browns
on Sunday. Today, we heard from head coach John Harbaugh.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Okay, appreciate everybody being here, getting ready for a very
important game, home opener against a division rival.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Watching the tape, obviously, they bring it like they always do. Physical,
aggressive defense, smothering type of the defense, man coverage, mixed
mix it up, run on play zone, try to disguise
on you a little bit heavy pass rush, very talented defense,
and an offense, very physical offensive line, downhill run, game
play action pass, uh, drop back pass of course in
passing situations. Uh, you know, Uh, playing against Joe coming back,
(00:45):
that's that's good. He's playing great. Watching him the last
couple of years and even on tape, so all those things, Uh,
what do you questions you have?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
And you mentioned click with Joe.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
I mean, you've played them before up there in New York,
but it will it be any different having him here
in Baltimo seeing them on the other sidelines.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
You know, just just nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
But in terms of looking back, you know, what an
amazing run, you know, and what a what a era
you know, for the Ravens at the Joe Flacco era.
You know, I think you know, he was in there,
and the early part of his career was with Ray
and Ed and those guys, in the later part of
his career with another set of guys, and and he
just he was he's he's iconic I think in Baltimore
(01:23):
football history, you know, and so respect that and admire
that and still keep in touch with him, except not
this week, and uh, this week, it's it's not about
that for us as a football team. It's about us
getting prepared for a good quarterback that knows how to
play the game. It's capable of making plays against you,
and we're going to have to be at our very
best to defend against Joe and the whole offense.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
What does he present?
Speaker 5 (01:44):
What sort of challenges even at forty one, you know
that he still does really well.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Well that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
He operates the passing game really well. He does a
good job with all the play action stuff. He's going
to get him in the runs they want to get in,
but he can get back there. He's still big, he's
still got a good arm. He's very accurate, you know,
he's uh it's it's a good catchable ball and he
knows where to go with it. So, uh, you know,
that's that's uh, that's that's kind of the classic drop
back quarterback kind of kind of guy that Joe is,
(02:10):
and that's that's the way they're playing with him.
Speaker 6 (02:12):
John, you mentioned Joe's stature and the organization of all
the accomplished here.
Speaker 7 (02:16):
I mean, given that.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
When you know, you guys make the tough decisions and
uh twenty eighteen to transition to Lamar, I mean, what
do you think he showed and his sort of grace
with that decision and and kind of you know, I
mean it giving you guys the Lee way to have
that transition there.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Well, Joe there was always a pro always a uh
first class man, you know, family man, and uh, of
course at the time we had a lot of conversations
and I don't really remember the details right now, but
they're all positive and good and and always respect him
for you know, everything he did here, given the workload
that that there tackled.
Speaker 8 (02:56):
Last year where you encourage are but have been how
much closing.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Was at.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean Derek was explosive and fast.
I mean he's a hard working guy, you know, and
he's prepared to play. He had a great camp and
wasn't wasn't a surprise.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
At all what we expected to see. John. You know,
you've become up with some emotional losses before.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
But as a coach, is there anything that you tried
to do to make sure again you leave it at
that game and you know everybody is looking forward.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, I mean there's a lot of things you do.
I think it's more it's more subtle than it is obvious.
You know, it's just the way, it's the way you
approach everything. You're going to have those in this in
this league. I mean, that's just it's the NFL, you know,
And it happens. And we've been in a lot of
games over the years where we've we've had leads and
I think it's actually one hundred and fifty two since
two thousand and eight, we've won one hundred and for
of them, you know, So you know, and then you
(03:50):
lost twelve and and and that's that's tough. But there's
a lot of other games you lost too, and it
doesn't really matter how you lose them. It matters that
you lost them, and you got to find a way to,
you know, come back and play the next the next
week and improve. But the opportunity of failure disappointment is
the opportunity that brings into sharp focus all the things
(04:11):
that you need to get better, because every single person
is looking at every single thing that they didn't do
as well as they wanted to do in their mind.
Because we have accountable guys saying that's not me. If
I'd have made that play, if I'd have done that better,
if I'd have made that decision, whatever it is, all
of us, that would have been the difference in the game.
So it brings into sharp focus the opportunity to improve.
(04:32):
And so you try to make the most of that.
Speaker 9 (04:35):
John, you or anybody familiar words they to hear anything
about in the mart situation, your faith, I know we
actually have money, anything that.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
A couple of days that lasts of the last that.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
You've heard anything from the league, Well I haven't personally.
I know that that Eric Consasi, you have talked to
the league about it.
Speaker 10 (04:53):
Just there's gonna be no discipline right as far as
you know, as far.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
As I'm I just wanted school trouble, nomid tendency out there. Good, Yeah,
he's dealing with a little something. He should be out
there tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
John, you know, just based on the clips and stuff,
j R's been one of.
Speaker 8 (05:10):
The guys that can't work for how that fourth quarter went.
Speaker 6 (05:14):
You know how much of that do you feel like
it's just him just not being able to practice, uh,
you know, or a lot of the month leading up
to that game.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
What are you kind of expect for this big team?
Speaker 2 (05:25):
No, I mean I think that's fair, you know, to
look at that this practice, it is a practice.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Sport.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Practice is important, you know, especially that position just being
exactly right. So uh, you know, he and I have
had that conversation. We recognize it, and uh. The main
thing right now is just to get him right, you know.
And he's he's he's healthy enough, but we got to
get him right so we can go out there and
play like Jay Ror Alexander, which I will fully expect
him to do. Uh, and we'll just give him a
(05:50):
cho opportunity to do that.
Speaker 11 (05:51):
John, you talked off in about your like Ohio roots,
do you have any I guess have you worked from
anyone from back in the day about maybe them being
ups that about this game being the one to monitor
the prey seasons, but given as the year aster between them.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Have I heard from like gay my friends in the Midwest,
I have not. I have not, nobody's nobody's mentioned it
to me. But now now that you asked the question,
I'll probably expect to get a couple of calls.
Speaker 12 (06:20):
Defensively from Cleveland. I mean, they were so good again
since seeing the second halveing and with seven yards allowed,
what are they doing?
Speaker 2 (06:29):
They were smothering the Cincinnati offense, you know, playing the
way the Browns might want to play. You know, when
they can, when they can play that way, that's when
they're at their best. I mean, they've got good players,
and Jim Schwartz is a great job and it's a
it's a downhill and the best word I can use
is a smothering type of mindset, you know, and you
got to find a way to you know, get to
get to crack the smother open, you know, that's what
(06:50):
you got to try to find a way to do.
And they try to keep it tight. So they did
a great job against the Bengals. It was a great
defensive performance.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Stanley and Linderball played for really, whether whether or neither
looked like what we just kind of like to see
Stanley and well maybe they're just what would you like
to see the rest the group, you know, just kind
of collectively, you know, when when you look.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Back at the work, interesting phrasing. I thought the offensive
line played well overall. You know, we ran for a
whole bunch of yards blocked really well. Pass protection was
was pretty good for the most part, you know, and
it wasn't too many real major problems there. It's pretty solid.
So I think just across the board, you know, first
game to second game, you have a chance to really
have a chance to really improve because it does give
(07:35):
you a chance to kind of see really where you're at.
You know, there's gonna be some things that you're gonna
look at and you're gonna go you didn't see that coming.
There's gonna be some other things that you expect to see.
Some things are gonna better than you expect to see them,
you know. And yet the next game is not the
last game you got to. The next game is not
played the same way, So got to anticipate all the
things that you think might come up with your guys.
So it's just a process. I mean, it's a long season.
(07:57):
And it's a development of it's a development, it's the
it's the art of developing a football team, you know,
and helping the team become the very best they can be.
So that goes with the offensive line.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I'm in George's meeting this morning. All the coaching points,
it's all, it's all what we do as coaches, and
Georgia a great George is a great offensive line coach.
So that's what they're going to work on, all the
ways they can get better.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
The fan and are actually on the flow. Is that
something we can talk a little more about. Is there
any conversation about that.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
I haven't talked to him about it.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Too much.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
I mean, he and I had a conversation about it
in terms of just you know a little bit about it,
what happened and UH and so I'm very confident he
understands what he needs to understand. And I know he
talked to UH to Eric about it at length, had
that conversation with Eric. So as far as as far
as I can tell, I think we're in a real
good spot with that.
Speaker 11 (08:48):
What are you looking to work for when your defensive
leaders after Somers game.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Get I'm looking for the defensive leaders to play great
football and to uh lead the way in terms of
example and the way they work, the way they prepare,
the way they run to the ball, the way they
lock in on every rep. Same thing we're looking for everybody.
But of course she wants your leaders to lead the way,
you know, and all those things. I've seen him do that,
(09:14):
you know, and uh, I mean they've done it all
the way through and they've done a since, So I
wouldn't expect anything different from those guys.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
All the receiving cards after being plenty of dying on
nine targets, I think that's just sport.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
How much does that help them? All thess really looking
at getting the line shut and saying you want to
see that as the weeks compared.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Yeah, I think the good thing about our offense is
that that those targets can really kind of go anywhere,
you know. And uh, and does z got them? And
and that's great because he's a dynamic player. Uh. You know,
I was really happy with one hop guy and what he.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Did with it.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
So I think it's what you do with the targets
that you get the ball is gonna go where it's
gonna go. With Lamar. It's kind of player he is,
you know, he kind of takes it where where it
needs to go a lot of times. And uh, our
guys understand, thats okay.
Speaker 11 (09:58):
On a much lighter Have you noticed you also started
to celebrate with the Ravens.
Speaker 9 (10:03):
Tell that going through the pack there, I.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Haven't under said, Actually, no way, I love that.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
I love that. Yeah, yesterday, that's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Yesterday when the guy to walk off.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah, yeah, man, all right, we love it.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
We also heard from quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Lamar, I know you've faced uh Joe before that you
guys played on my guess playing with the Jets. But
it's gonnaeel a little different than seeing you know, black
built across the side here in Baltimore.
Speaker 13 (10:44):
Yeah, definitely definitely a division rival and how many times
you know, face to face those guys, seeing my guy
in the meeting room with my rooky Yeah, yeah, it'll.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Definitely be different, just just from the rivalry. It'll be different. Yeah,
remember that year had nice anything.
Speaker 13 (11:02):
What's just him being in the meeting room and how
like how cool he was, what things he would say like,
you know, and how funny he was like, I don't
know if people know, but Flack's funny dog.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
And he used to have me roll in man as
a rookie.
Speaker 13 (11:16):
But I used to be like, man, this man just
say stuff like so nonchalant like and it's like it's
great man.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
He a great person to be around.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Are you surprise at forty years old?
Speaker 13 (11:26):
As no, Uh, my rookie year, I seen Flack on
this field right here, throw like a eighty yard bomb
like it cross body like to Chris Moore.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
It was ridiculous. So for me to see that back then,
I no doubt in my mom now doubt in my
mom going.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Back to that movie year, just how was the relationship?
Speaker 2 (11:45):
It wasn't easy for.
Speaker 7 (11:46):
Either one of you, knowing the business decision that was
kind I'm sure it could have been awkward knowing how
eighteen is gonna end and then you.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Were coming in.
Speaker 13 (11:52):
Just if you go back to those times, what was
it like working with him and kind of knowing as
ending in your.
Speaker 10 (11:57):
Beginning was happening?
Speaker 7 (11:58):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (11:59):
To be honest, uh, I really didn't think much of it,
just because you know, I was just trying to learn
much as I could my rookie. I wasn't looking to
be out there. Actually, I can't speak for flat, you know,
but I was. I was cool, you know, I was cool.
I feel like we had a great, uh great relationship.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
So I can see do you think it was always
there will always be a connection with you two. It's
just you're heading quarterbacks here for a long time, each
of you, and then there will always just be this
this connection between you and Jailer.
Speaker 13 (12:25):
Yeah, just from you know, the same you know, once
a raven, always a raven, and I believe that's that's
a fact each other.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
NFL honors a couple of years ago, and you know,
big hugs and all that. Just what was what was
that conversation?
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (12:38):
I was like, man, I thought I was gonna have
to see you in the playoffs cause he was going crazy.
And that was I think he was with the Browns
at that time. Yeah, he was going crazy. So I'm like, man,
I know you wanted to go against like cause he
was on the road. Man, he had those guys in
a good position.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, And the mark went back.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
To the last game with the cramp situation.
Speaker 8 (12:55):
Was that just was that just a flute thing for
your first game or something like that? A lot of
being made out of why you weren't able to go
back in and fourth and break.
Speaker 13 (13:04):
Well, I was a lot being made about that, but anyway, yeah,
I was actually cramping a job before the job before that,
you know, the turnover happened, but I went to the sideline.
If anybody paid attention there, I was drinking pickle juice
on the sideline already. I'm like, Sarah, I need to
get hydrated, like I'm cramping. I'm starting to feel cramps.
And then we went back out there and obviously, you
know happed my four fourth and three happened. But if
(13:26):
I weren't crapping cramping, we definitely would have went for it.
We definitely would have went for I.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Believe were where were cramptic? Your cast? Both of my casts,
like you know how they said like the Browns game,
I had a pool game with something. That's how it was.
But I was like, I was better off.
Speaker 13 (13:43):
Because it wasn't like happening right then and there, like
I just felt it like coming on. But yeah, I
was cramping again. I don't know where that come from,
because if I had to use the bathroom, I would
have said it, like I don't got no problem with
saying that I'm a grown man.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Said George Langthy, just about the incident with the fan.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, I'm not for sure what was.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Said, but have you worked for the league about that,
and what's your reaction about that whole thing?
Speaker 13 (14:09):
Yeah, Eric talked to me about it. Yeah, but uh,
I mean, I believe everyone seen what happened.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
I didn't.
Speaker 13 (14:17):
Don't get me wrong, don't. I didn't try to, you know,
it just happened like I got pushed. I'm like what,
but I was like outside, I wasn't even thinking about
me being out there on the field. But my apologies
to that, to that whoever that was, I don't know
who it was. I A probably used to him, like.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Just chill next time. Just you know, you can talk
trash and stuff, but keep your hands to yourself. That's
all I can say.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
There was also a clipbook that we saw.
Speaker 8 (14:43):
It looked like a earball or can flying forward Eric.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
And that's crazy, like stuff like that shouldn't be happening.
It's not w w E. You know we're playing football
out here. We don't want to. I never seen it. One.
Don't don't make me look bad your nation, don't make
me look bad.
Speaker 13 (14:58):
I never seen anyone of our fans do nothing like
that to an opposing team, you know, So just you know,
just keep it football talk trash, you know. I know
guy's gonna talk trash. I know the you know, the
opposing team's gonna talk trash. To keep it that way,
you know, but keep your hands and keep your objects
to yourself.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
You know, he heard of anything about, you know, from
the league about any kind of you know, any action
they might take.
Speaker 13 (15:17):
You know, Jameson talked to Eric Error talked to me
about it, you know, and the league had to talk
to Eric, you know, to talk to me about it.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
So, yeah, we're frustrated going back and back at the line.
Speaker 8 (15:32):
On passing you through that the uh those that the
type of what was black for away later for illegal.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
That life uh.
Speaker 13 (15:42):
Nah, you know, Uh, I kind of play football, you know,
but hopefully we start getting getting those calls sometime soon fast.
Hopefully that don't happen again to me, you know, But uh,
it's football, man, I don't I don't really cry. I
don't cry on the field. I don't cry it already,
so I just play ball.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
All that were kind of.
Speaker 12 (16:01):
A similar situation here ago Tough Foss on the road
at Kansas City, came home to the go player and.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
The Raiders got you guys. You you r reference that
in remind me of the matter.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I didn't even think about that. That's not on my mind.
Speaker 13 (16:13):
I uh lost that happened last year. You know, we
just trying to stay the course. You know, we locked
down on the Browns. You know, that's a n Division game,
a divisional game, and you know, we just trying to
come out with the victory.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
The more finally they'll see.
Speaker 10 (16:25):
The both him away from home open.
Speaker 5 (16:26):
What's the vide that you expect from the Banks to Sunday?
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Oh, man, I'm expecting the crowd to be going crazy. Man.
Speaker 13 (16:31):
Uh thirty anniversary man, nah uh, I'm looking for people
to be popping out their skins.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I know I will, you know, looking forward to it.
Why did you guys are looking for anything extra to
get you going?
Speaker 14 (16:42):
But what does you know the thirtieth anniverse and all
the pre game uh things that they have planned to.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Take that or do anything for you guys.
Speaker 13 (16:50):
Man, I'm just happy to be a part of history,
you know, and we were just trying to conquer uh
the victory, you know, come Sunday, in front of their
home crowds. I feel like it'd be incredible with all
the festivities going know, he know, for the crowd, the
fans and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
What moll does.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
Ozzie Newson still play in this organization for you? And
what does he mean to you?
Speaker 10 (17:08):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Man?
Speaker 3 (17:09):
That was the guy who got me here, you know.
Uh believed in me. He told me that.
Speaker 13 (17:12):
Actually, I remember on the visit, uh talk just talking
to him. He was like, man, it's something about you.
It was something about you. Now he was writing his
little notebook like and then for them to call me,
you know, Draft night twenty eighteen, it was incredible.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
You know, he actually believed in me.
Speaker 13 (17:27):
So man, it's I always got respect, a lot of
love and respect from mister Osen along those lines.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
More.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
If you go back to the combined, it was Ozzy
he was asked about you know, teams were talking about
you working out a wide receiver and and and he
was asked about that. And he's selling our board.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
He's a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Do your did you remember that at the time?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
And I I I didn't. I didn't mean.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Something to you though. For him to to kind of,
you know, be so declared.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
It about that that means a lot to me.
Speaker 13 (17:53):
G just for me being a quarterback for this organization
man and him being the GM at the time, and
just everything we'd have been through, you know, still been
here and I just like I said, I got a love,
a lot of love and respect for mythos.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
An emotional loss like the.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
One in Buffalo, do you like you or any of
the leaders try to say anything so you everyone make
sure everyone is looking forward and not looking back.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Now. To be honest, I haven't said I haven't said anything.
You know.
Speaker 13 (18:22):
I feel like Derek, you know, he spoke up. You know,
he's obviously a leader on our team. He spoke up
after the loss that I've seen because I wasn't in there.
But I feel like everybody knows, like what we should
be doing, you know, all all of us, you know,
both sides of the ball, including special teams.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
All of us know what we.
Speaker 13 (18:38):
Should be doing, man, and we're just trying to come
out with a victoria.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
X.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
We heard from outside linebacker Kyle van Noy.
Speaker 10 (18:51):
In Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
You know, how do you as a team make sure
you make sure that's in the past.
Speaker 10 (18:58):
That's a good question. I think everybody is different. Something
that I've learned over my career is that there's usually
sometimes a twenty four hour rule and a fifty four
or fifty two.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Fifty four.
Speaker 10 (19:14):
I gotta do the math. Fifty wow, let me start over. Wow.
That's how we start right there with laugh laughter. That's good.
Holy hell, I'm gonna get killed for this. They're gonna
(19:34):
be like, damn football player. I set myself up. This
is good.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
We all needed this.
Speaker 10 (19:43):
Yeah, sometimes you need to take forty eight hours or
twenty four, you know, after emotional loss like that. I
think it was okay to take forty eight. I think
it was one of those games where you got to
really look at yourself the mirror personally on defense. Collectively,
(20:04):
we really you have a lot of guys that care
about football, and you know, for myself, it wasn't my
best performance personally. So I just want to do whatever
I can to get better this weekend, get back out
on the field and put on a good product for
the guys in the locker room and also fans too,
Like you know, fans want to win just like we do,
(20:27):
and we want to win probably more than they do,
just because we're the ones, you know, putting in a
lot of work and effort and you know, grateful for
the chance to be able to do that. You know,
luckily that it's at the beginning of the year like this.
Hopefully they're not happening at the end of the year.
But we're just focused on the Browns right now. Kind
(20:49):
of put that in the past because it's past our
twenty four hour forty eight. Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Help that it is Leaveland.
Speaker 12 (20:57):
Division rival that you guys are celebrating the thirtieth anniversary,
the seventy five Colts are going to be here.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Just a lot of fist tippics.
Speaker 12 (21:04):
Does that make it easier to put last week behind
them and.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Look ahead to this?
Speaker 10 (21:08):
Yeah, that's awesome. I don't think that, honestly, is anything
that has to do with us. I think that is
more for what's going on for the fans in the stadium.
I think we're just focused on us and we got
to play the Browns. You know, I've seen you know,
the social media people. I feel like, are you know,
(21:28):
upset about that? But it's our first home game, so
you know, I think that's what we're celebrating for those
anniversaries and stuff, is that it's the first home game,
and we're excited to play in front of our crowd.
You know, I hope they bring that energy because we're
going to bring that energy after you know, I know,
(21:48):
I am, I know the defense is going to come
out bringing that energy.
Speaker 11 (21:53):
You've played against Joe flack of a lot of times
over the years, we've here and there.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
You know, you're a veteran guy in this league. What
do you say about him?
Speaker 2 (22:01):
And respect for him still doing what he's doing at.
Speaker 10 (22:03):
The stage, you know, props to cool Joe. I mean,
he's still cool in the pocket. He still has a beautiful,
spot tight spiral throwing the ball like and he's playing
for something bigger than himself. He's playing for his kids.
You know, he's talked about that openly, and I respect that.
You know, I respect someone that is experienced like him,
(22:26):
that's still performing and still playing at a high level
and producing, you know, good numbers. He seems like everybody
cares about what he's got going on as the quarterback.
You know, some some teams, you know, don't put everything
in their basket. I feel like the Browns are heavily
(22:47):
on Joe's side, and I respect that that they're committed
to him, and I respect that he's committed to the
game as much as he has been, not only now
but in the past two and its awesome to see
him still play really, really good football.
Speaker 7 (23:04):
When we talked to John on Monday, he said the
continent on Josh Allen was what it needed to be.
I mean, from your standpoint, what do you feel like
happened there and what can you guys do to fix it?
Speaker 10 (23:14):
Yeah, that's a good question. I think it goes back
to controlling what your one eleventh job is. I think
it starts with communication and then performance when you're doing
that standpoint. I feel like we did okay at points
in the game, but at the end result it wasn't
what we wanted and we ended up losing. And you
(23:37):
know that's a big reason why we lost was the
pass for us lanes weren't as tight and Chris as
we needed it to be. The two times before, we
felt like as a group it was we kept him
in the pocket and he didn't get out many times
to make those down the field throws, and a couple
of times this game this last game he did, But honestly,
(24:00):
like I'm so ready for the Browns, like I'm not
even thinking about that game. That's just something that we're
focused on now going forward. Is just worrying about the Browns. Honestly,
like that loss. It hurt, but we're we're already over it.
We have to like, we have sixteen other games to
worry about, and this one's the next one, and all
(24:22):
our attention and focus is on the Browns O line
and Joe Flacco and being able to stop the receivers
and the Djoku and the young guy. I'm sorry, I
don't know his name yet, but he's number forty four.
He's a very very good player, Samson the running back.
I mean, they got some talent over there, and we're
focused on them.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
I feel like these last couple of days, you or
any other better leaders felt the need to say something
specific to the team or is it kind.
Speaker 6 (24:48):
Of like, what's none of this needs?
Speaker 10 (24:50):
She said, Yeah, I mean we had the defense, had
a dinner and we'll just it's going to be private
just because we don't need it. I don't need to
to express what was said. But things were talked about,
and you know, we have to turn the page and
focus on the Browns and make sure that we don't
start like last year. I know, personally, for me, the
(25:12):
positive is I'm not playing with a broken face, so
like that's that's something. Yeah, that's something good for me
going into week two is that I'm healthy and you know,
other we have a pretty healthy team right now. Looking
forward to the challenge of the Browns. Joe Flacco coming
back to a place where he's won a Super Bowl
and the emotions of that, and he's going to want
(25:35):
to play really well. So the competition of how the
Browns defense has performed over the years, and you know,
our defense needs to step up and it's exciting to
have that challenge and being able to have the opportunity
to play and the perspective and the opt to you know,
play on Sunday. We're excited about that.
Speaker 6 (25:54):
Not to push on too much, but just how rejuvenated
and you feel coming out of dinner like that in
a mediate dave over together.
Speaker 10 (26:00):
Yeah, you know, you gotta put perspective on it. And
the perspective is we weren't good enough, right, you know,
those are the facts that we ended up losing. And
you know, let's turn the page and focus on the
Browns because one in one sounds a lot better than
Owen too.
Speaker 11 (26:15):
Whose idea was the team dinner?
Speaker 3 (26:16):
And did you pick up the check? A good question.
Speaker 10 (26:19):
Like I said, I'm not going to go into details,
but just know that we're doing everything we can to
try to write the ship and get it going in
the place where everybody's excited about it.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Cool. Appreciate that.
Speaker 10 (26:31):
Awesome.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
We also heard from wide receivers A Flowers, you individually
put up in a big Giants against Buffalo. Just what
does that game kind.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Of do for you moving forward?
Speaker 15 (26:49):
Honestly, I ready to get to win, if I'm being honest,
but uh, I'm just glad to be back on the field.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
It was.
Speaker 15 (26:54):
It felt good being back on the field because you know,
I missed some time last year the end, so I
was just excited to get back on the field.
Speaker 8 (27:03):
Was there a play on Sunday where you felt like
you had a strength that you put on the South
season really helped you in a way that made you
relacking last year.
Speaker 15 (27:12):
I'll say I ain't cut back yesterdays. I mean I
ain't cut back in the game, so that that's a positive.
I just kept running straight and just picked up more
yards with what I can get, So I'll say it
played a role in that way.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
What is it ask you this week about the way
that this team has responded and it's moving forward.
Speaker 8 (27:28):
To the game gainst Cleveland.
Speaker 15 (27:31):
I feel like we always responded the right way no
matter what happens, no matter win or loss, we already
come back and respond the way we need to. And
Coach Harris always harp on that whether it's a win,
we come back and we get better off of what
we did wrong. Whether it's a lose and we just
come back and try to win.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
The next one.
Speaker 15 (27:45):
So I just feel like we always prepare the way
we need and we know what we gotta do.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
I feel like your connection with Lamar had a lot
to do with the fact that you guys worked a lot.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
On the off season together.
Speaker 15 (27:58):
I feel like everybody got their own connect Well, you
know what i mean. I'm just I'm just not gonna
say I'm the only one with a connection. Well, everybody
got a certain connection, and he know what routes and
like how we get open. So he got a connection
with everybody and he able to get everybody the ball.
Speaker 8 (28:12):
As you've seen, you've seen this defense almost every other day,
in almost every day in practice the past six weeks.
How at a character was that showing Sunday and how
confident argued that they can get back to what you've seen.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
I felt like that was super out of the character.
That was the first game.
Speaker 15 (28:28):
Well, they ain't play no preseasons, no tackling, no no
real games. So I just feel like that was out
of character for him, and they know, they all know it,
so I would not believe they gonna get it right.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
So high in her seniors obviously, But then last year
there were some games when after you had a great game,
the targets kind of went down the next one.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
How are you kind of making sure that it stays
at that consistent level, you know.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Week after week.
Speaker 15 (28:51):
Honestly, that's not really my job to you know what
I mean. I don't really draw none. I just go
with what the coaches telling me to do. And and
sometimes some of those games there Hearry had like one
sixty one seventy, So I can't really control that either.
So and if we win and keep giving it to him,
oh man, Like like I said, I'm all about winning.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
Say when you took the when you took that handoff
on the second down play on the last drive for
three and out drive.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
What did you see on that play?
Speaker 7 (29:19):
Was there just just nowhere to go?
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Or I mean, what was what was your keeping? People? Yeah,
they won't know where to go. That's what I do.
Speaker 15 (29:24):
And I dove because I just wanted the time to
keep taking so we could just knock some time off
the clock.
Speaker 9 (29:31):
The young Obviously Deandre's made catches like that before, He's
made a career up it.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
But to see that live, how kind of electric was that?
Speaker 15 (29:39):
I mean, I've seen in their practice three or four times,
so I wasn't even surprised.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
But I don't even think.
Speaker 15 (29:45):
I looked at the play like I was facing the
other way, and I just heard everybody going crazy, And
then I looked up at the border and seeing what
he did, I'm like, bro, that's legendary.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Heart right, there.
Speaker 12 (29:56):
Were you guys, two explosives of an offense. Too short
drives and get kind of like your defense on the
field too much because your drives, your drives were so short.
Speaker 15 (30:06):
You said it was too explosive. Yeah, first out we
was super explosed. Third quarter we were super explosive. And
you know it's just we we thought we were gonna
run the ball to end the game and that's what
we wanted to do, and we had to back to
do it, and unfortunately and then go the way.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
We want a lot of number.
Speaker 8 (30:21):
One receivers and only like you're talking about it, I
don't really care necessarily about the targets.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
That's not necessarily common for number one guys.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
Just where do you think you kind of get that
sort of mentality of Laird?
Speaker 3 (30:30):
You can take you.
Speaker 15 (30:33):
Because I'll say a lot of people that get the ball.
If you get the ball a lot of receiver, that
means you're a run game.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Not good.
Speaker 15 (30:40):
So I'll say we got dead Hearry. A lot of
teams don't got dead Harry. And you know, at the
end of yeah, you know what I mean. So it's
like you get what you get and I do it,
do what I can with it.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Good, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Next we heard from quarterback Moreland Humphrey.
Speaker 16 (31:03):
I would just say, you know, s take a one
week at a time. I think sadly we have been
in a similar position before, uh last year, and so
you know, you you get in the meetings, let's figure out,
you know, kind of what went wrong down there in
the stretch. And it kind of was a it was
a tale of really you know the fourth quarter, you
(31:25):
wanna be your sh at your strongest. We were just
kind of weren't really on our b's and q so
on the on the dee on the defensive side. So
you know you kind of flush last week and you
uh tried to get one to know for this week.
Speaker 14 (31:36):
All Like you talk about being in those situations before,
is it do do you think it's I those types
of things lingered around maybe in your mind when you
are in those positions in the game, when you're late
in the game, do you think about I guess how
games like Sunday Night went.
Speaker 16 (31:54):
I I I can't say dur during the game, I
I really thought about it. I will say when we
were or we were up fifteen. You know, I like
to sit next to Rokwan on the bench cause I
know he's gonna be pretty locked in throughout the entire game,
and I I wanna be kind of at that same
mental level. And I just remember being up fifteen and
I'm like, I looked over at Rolls, like, you know,
(32:16):
let's let's go win the game. And I think as
a collective, I think you know, when you watch the tape,
we we all I think we all want to do that,
but I think it goes kind of to a hard
to dress. In the team meeting, he said, you know,
we're just not mature enough as a team yet. I
think we always very clear we got great players on
both sides of the ball, but defensively, we have to
(32:39):
work on our maturity too. Doesn't matter what our offense
is doing, doesn't what matter what Lamark like. We we
have to go out there and win the game. And
right now we're you know, our maturity level right now
is sadly when we getting those situations, it's it's just
not good.
Speaker 12 (32:53):
Enough coming back the idea of the year. Obviously, we're
a teammate with him and memories of him when you
were a two man and do what you see now
the guy you still dole to do what he's.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Doing it for you. Yeah, uh, Joe Uh. I enjoyed,
you know, my years with Joe.
Speaker 16 (33:09):
I remember one of the first meals I ever had,
Joe joined me at the lunch stable and it surprised
me cause I just thought that you know, a uh,
a quarterback, uh super Bowl MVP would not just join
a rookie at the lunch table. So I thought that
was cool.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
I was. I guess I was young.
Speaker 16 (33:24):
Coming in like quarterbacks are probably you know, this arrogant guy.
So that that's what my first memory of Joe and
then obviously watching him on on tape, he's kind of
the sill same Joe looks at all his reads. It
it's kind of to me it's almost a lost art
of quarterbacks, you know, three step drop, five step drop
to go through all their progressions the way kind of
Joe does.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
So obviously it's it's a a familiar face.
Speaker 16 (33:48):
And coming back to Baltimore is it's a weird thing,
uh being in that Browns jersey, but we we're excited
to kind of uh go against him and hopefully we
coming on top of.
Speaker 7 (33:56):
Marlon ben Noyce said, the uh, the whole defense got
together for dinner after after the the game.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Why did that feel necessary?
Speaker 16 (34:05):
Well, that was the honestly that was kind of already
that was already set. But uh, that then was already set.
So but but I think you know, the d the
defense is I I I don't think it's a question
you know the I'm not gonna say the problem, but
the current problem uh on the team is and uh
that that's a defense. So I think we I think
(34:27):
we're together. I think we've we flushed last week and
it's uh good things to d well.
Speaker 8 (34:31):
Like you mentioned the maturity piece for the defense.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
How do you gain that cause, I mean you guys,
you know a lot of veteran guys, guys that have
been around here in several years.
Speaker 8 (34:38):
How did how does how do you make that happen?
Speaker 16 (34:41):
Yeah, that's that's definitely something we're we're still working on,
you know. I I think you know, when when you
go through it, you really have to think, you know.
I think everyone wants to make a play. I think
that's the biggest thing everyone. I I wanna make a play.
I wanna make a play. I wanna bang a play.
You have to look at it at and I I
just go off how I look at it. I'm I'm
more of a negative than a positive guy. I'm thinking,
(35:03):
I don't wanna lose this game, so I'm gonna do
my job so the it's not my fault. And I
think that's the biggest thing. If you do your job
and if a play comes to you, it comes to you,
you don't go out. I'm trying to make up make
a play and then do my job. And I think
that's the biggest thing we all gotta. It's so crazy
how I get beat, but the pastor has helped me out.
So it's a bad throw by Josh. And then when
(35:24):
it doesn't work like that, the pastors doesn't help, The
coverage doesn't help. The coverage doesn't help, the pastors doesn't help.
It's just so key to how it all works together.
And I think that's the biggest thing is do your
job and if a play comes to you, to make
make it. And I think working on that maturity it
comes in practice. You know, we we do a lot
of scenario we It's crazy how we did the exact
scenarios that we lost on multiple times all throughout camp.
(35:48):
We were in the perfect calls for a lot of
the things that happened. We did not execute the calls properly,
and that's kind of that's why the loss hurts so bad.
It was because we knew exactly what they were gonna
do you in a couple different situations, and all eleven
guys couldn't get together. And so that maturity, we're still
working on it and we're looking to to to to
build on that maturity. Uh, Sunday, Maryland.
Speaker 8 (36:09):
Obviously, it took you guys about after the season last
year to kind.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Of correct some of those issues in the secondary.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
What's gonna shorten the.
Speaker 10 (36:16):
Learning courage this time?
Speaker 16 (36:17):
Like, you know, I think what Zeo said, I agree, Well,
honestly I I I loved harves and and Zeo similar messages,
but but different in a way. Zeo's made it very
clear we're not gonna r be repeat offenders. Uh, it's
not gonna be a situation where somebody's been doing something
wrong and nothing gets said or.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
We think this that the third.
Speaker 16 (36:39):
If you're doing things right, you're gonna play, and if
you're not.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Doing things right, you're not gonna play.
Speaker 16 (36:43):
I'm hoping I'm one of the guys that's gonna do
things right, and I hope whoever else is with that.
But we're not gonna get into a situation similar last
year where we kind of mask over this and try
to do this and protect this guy, protect that guy.
The guys that do it right are gonna play the
guys that aren't. And it's it's really just that simple.
I think we're just too talented of a team to
(37:04):
continue to have those collapses. The kind of that we
have and I'm not saying this this last game, I
felt it was more of a true group defensively effort,
but the guys that are doing it right are gonna
play it and that was that was kind of the message,
and I think everybody can respect that going forward.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Lastly, we heard from tight end Mark Andrews. Well, Mark,
let's stood out to you about the focus of this
week and the team bouncing back going.
Speaker 9 (37:33):
Into this game again just you know, focused on the details.
You know, it's obviously not the outcome that we had
won in the last game. A lot of great things
that had happened, but at the end of the day
time this game is about winning and doing our job,
and so that's where we're focused on.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
You know this this game is going to be a
thirty season celebration for this franchise. You've been here a
long time, but what does it mean to be part of,
you know, kind of the history here that has been
built in Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
It's a blessing.
Speaker 9 (37:58):
Man. I'm very thankful to be part of this city,
part of the organization, and couldn't ask for a better
place to be drafted to and be welcomed into.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
On the other side, Flacco's coming back. You were here
with him at twenty eighteen. What do you expect kind
of the emotions of all that that goes along with
this game.
Speaker 9 (38:14):
I mean there's a lot of love for Flacco and
what he's done here and all the games that he
won and what he did for the city and you know,
but for us, it's it's about going out there competing
and our defense will be ready.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Mark, what do you think as a rookie Joe taught
you about carrying oneself and.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Leading the team? Uh?
Speaker 9 (38:35):
You know, Joe was always a you know, a pretty
easy going guy. Guy, liked the you know, I had
like to have some fun, but was able to kind
of dial in. And you know, as a rookie coming
in is a great person to learn from and just
be out how to be a pro.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
Did you think that that Joe would still be playing
at forty years old and you would want to have
this long career.
Speaker 9 (38:53):
That's the thing about life, man, You never know us
to bring to come and to credit to him and
how hard he's worked. Very you know, proud of him.
Speaker 8 (39:00):
What do you remember the most.
Speaker 7 (39:01):
About the end of twenty eighteen and kind of Lamar's
beginning in Joe's enditing help both of them handle that
business decision that.
Speaker 9 (39:09):
I'm sure it was an easy Yeah, you know, i'd
I would just you know say that. You know, obviously
Joe handle it like a pro, and that's the type
of person, type of player he is. And for him
who still be in the league and doing his thing
and playing really well, it's awesome to see and obviously
Lamar coming on the scene and immediately just you know,
taking over and you know that's Lamar and and the
rest of history for him.
Speaker 6 (39:29):
Mark, just one of your leaders of this team, you know, Uh,
Kyle said's like a twenty four hour rule or forty
eight hour rule, but just kind.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Of have you seen the guys respond over the last
couple of hours to.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
Just focused Mark, what was your your maybe uh a
rookie year crushing to Joe or is think something that
you remember.
Speaker 9 (39:45):
From that first year you know he uh, you know,
I just remember, you know, we had a a good
tight end group and you know he loved his tight ends.
But just being all the joke before the games, it
was always you know, very casual, very fun, and there
was just kind some jokes and having good time, having
good conversation.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
What stands out for you.
Speaker 9 (40:03):
What Cleveland's defense did on Sunday, especially when you look
at Cincinnati and you know what that offense is capable
of and seven.
Speaker 10 (40:09):
Yards of kild of offense in this second.
Speaker 9 (40:10):
They're a great team. You know, this is a tough matchup.
They've got a great defense, and we got to be
ready to go to be able to play against that.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
