Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Pass podcast. It is Wednesday,
October first, and the Ravens are getting ready to play
the Houston Texans this weekend. After practice today, we heard
from head coach John Harball.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
All right, good seeing everybody, appreciate you being here. Good day,
good practice. Guys, did a nice job, and we're getting
ready for the Texans, which present unique challenges. And I
mean their defense is playing at a super high level,
and then their offense ran the ball, did a nice
job with the play action stuff and the quick game,
and obviously a great young quarterback and Nico Collins doing
(00:39):
a great job, and they just they go to present
a challenge for us, but really more more than anything,
and we got to focus on us and how we
play and play our best football, and that's what we're
really working on.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
What question, jav the ball.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Wasn't outs today any decoumdational.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
Warner at the fun of the morn.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, we just kind of take a day by day
through the week.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
You'll see the injury reports. It's really all those guys.
I mean, we consider and you could ask me about
every single guy and it's pretty it's a fairly long list,
you know, who's got time for that. So you'll see, uh,
you'll see who practices and who didn't. And you know,
we'll be working our way through the week with guys
who'll see guys back tomorrow, you see guys back Friday,
see guys back Sunday. You know, we'll get as many
(01:20):
guys back as we can. But we're also preparing for
not having some guys back, and that's what we'll prepare for,
and we be ready to go and play our best
game of the year.
Speaker 6 (01:29):
John Lamar, was it one particular play in Kansas City
or I really don't have any information on that, And
I really don't think it matters.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
You know, it's not really what I'm thinking about. I'm
thinking about the team and getting ready to practice and
and the mar's working. You know, he's doing a great job.
I talked to him yesterday. For a long time I
had talked. He's in here all day to day working
and in the meetings and different things like that. So, yeah,
it's just kind of what we do.
Speaker 7 (01:54):
John, how weary was it to have something like this
little rush shoe just started quite a few games or left.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
For years the more gamers. Yeah, I do, I do.
I think it's very valuable.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
And you know, uh, Cooper practice today, he was a quarterback,
and Tyler practice today also, and uh, I thought everybody
did a really good job today, you know. So, But
to your point, I mean Cooper's experience, he's he's been
in these situations before, as is Tyler, and he's, uh,
he's up to speed. He's been with us all the
way back to the beginning. He's been in every every
(02:24):
every practice, every meeting. You know, he knows the offense
and uh, and have you ready to.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Go similarly with Tyler?
Speaker 8 (02:31):
How much does that obviously, that familiarity and then yeah,
because he has a more different skill set than.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
The moment got Yeah, the valuable thing.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
I mean, you know he does he does have familiarity
with the offense and and uh and and that, and
he's very comfortable with it already because he's been in it.
And then uh, you know, the different things he brings
to the table, just obviously as a player is valuable.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
John, do you feel like.
Speaker 8 (02:51):
You've started to see some of the things you wanted
to see out of Jaire Alexander. I know a couple
of weeks you're saying, you know that guys are trying
to work with things now, if you feel like he's
turning in that.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Direction, yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely where he's getting closer. Uh
will he be ready this week or not? We'll see,
but uh, he's uh it's you know, we're measuring that stuff.
And I practiced today, So I would say the answer
to that is yes, coach.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
What about the prospects of Tyler or maybe Keith fire.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Being how he would know his name and comes, Yeah,
those are Tyler, Tyler Huntley, Well, Tyler Huntley. Yeah, if
if Lamar's down, Tyler will be up as far as
Keaton and yeah, there's a chance of that as well.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Jo How Jones look in your first kind of yeah, right, you.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Know it's I can't wait to see the tape he Uh,
you know, we had controlled reps. I would say, you know,
he was in there in the team periods, but not
all of them.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Uh, his individual watched him. Uh. I can't wait to
see how he looked. But I thought he looked good.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
He looked healthy, he looks strong, looks like he's been
training and you know, first day back in the football
for quite a while for him.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
But uh, you know, I thought he looked good.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
John.
Speaker 9 (03:57):
Obviously you're ramping him up and it's going to be
a wayte but it's still the plan is to see
him at tackle first.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Uh No, I don't know if we have a plan
right now. I think right now the plans to look
at him, you know, looking at my guard, looking at
my tackle, and uh just see where we're at before
we can start deciding that, to see what he looks like.
Speaker 7 (04:14):
Is it almost like getting Is it almost like kind
of the start of the summer with a rookie.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
I mean he's obviously in an unusual situation that way.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, I mean, it's just different than it would be
if he'd been here the whole time. So you're starting,
you're starting. I'm going to go fast.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
You know. He's going to be in there, and he's
working hard. He's been at every meeting.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
It's not like he has just showed up today. He's
been in every meeting. He knows all the calls, he's
he's been working you know with the trainers, you know,
as far as technique and things like that.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
But so he's up to speed as far as what
to do. Okay, John, do you.
Speaker 10 (04:46):
Need to impress on the team the urgency of a
game like this, with everything.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
That's kind of around.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Do I need to No, I don't need to No,
Sure I have you know, I'm sure. I'm sure you
all of us have you know, we all have.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
Okay, Jo, we'll guard the injury report. You have to
ask about the weekends. Is he in that week to
week or range two?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Well, well just wait and see tomorrow and you'll know
more than How about that joh one guy?
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Think you forgot to ask you?
Speaker 9 (05:13):
That is the uh the special teamer that you got
uh more earlier this season we.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Went on IR.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, I think he's still in IR right.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
He he came in kind of with an injury, so
we're trying to get him healthy.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
He should be back soon though.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Uh. He's looking pretty good moving around, so that would
be it'd be great to get him back.
Speaker 10 (05:34):
Okay, he likes time just through with Lamar and I
knew you group with all the ad you would say, David,
David Penn.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
I just don't say anything. That's what I would do.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
I just don't want to take yeah, yeah, yeah, well
would just let it, let leave it alone and we'll
just uh I mean yeah, the injury.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Thank you. The injury report will be out of four courage.
Speaker 9 (05:54):
How much of a challenge is it, I guess for
the the coaching staff to put together a game plan
that makes sense.
Speaker 8 (05:59):
But there's any kind of moving parts that you guys
have right now?
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Well, I mean it's a challenge for sure, but it's
a challenge to put it together every week. I mean
it's a challenge to put together when you when you
have you know, totally healthy fifty three. It's it's always
a challenge. I think coaches do a great job. We
have really good game planners. I really love the process
that the guys go through. And we're gonna have a
really good game plan you know. Now let's go out
and execute it, and uh it's do our best to
(06:25):
win this very important game, as you pointed out, right, Great,
we got it.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Thanks, all right, except we heard from tight end Mark Andrews.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
What's up? Guess all right?
Speaker 6 (06:44):
You've been in so much situations with more being answer.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
You know, how big of a.
Speaker 8 (06:50):
Challenge is it, you know, for this offense with this team,
when if if the possibility you don't have the.
Speaker 9 (06:56):
Bals, like you said, that's a that's a challenge, you know,
it's a obviously you know the type of player and
leader that Lamar is and how much he means to us.
You know, the beautiful thing is that we got a
lot of fighters in this group, and you know, a
deep organization with a ton of players that are going
to step up and make plays. And I just got
a lot of faith and trust in the guys.
Speaker 8 (07:19):
Mark, what's been a discussion just amongst the offense and
obviously that you know hasn't been probably written because you
guys don't like and just what's what's the message been,
you know, coming out.
Speaker 9 (07:30):
Last week and going into this you know, just staying efficient,
I think is the biggest thing.
Speaker 10 (07:34):
You know.
Speaker 9 (07:34):
I think at you know times we're moving the ball
extremely well, and you know, for us, it's just you know,
staying on track.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
And that's that's everybody know that there's you.
Speaker 9 (07:42):
Know, things all over the field that are just you know,
limiting our success. And I think for us, just dialing
in doing our job, focusing and good things will happen
and it will be more efficient that way.
Speaker 11 (07:52):
Mark, talking about how faith in the guys, you know,
people Rush had reps with the first team this summer
and whatnot played in the pre season, but he show
you about how he can outperate this Owen.
Speaker 9 (08:03):
Well, he's a pros pro. You know, he really you know,
you know, dove into this offense. You know, under understands
extremely well. You know, so you know he's going to know,
you know, he's gonna be on his p's and q's.
He's going to know what to do. And you know,
I know he's he's fired up for the opportunity to
you know, go show what he's all about. And you
know there's a reason why he's been in the league
for for nine years. I think it is now he's
(08:24):
a really good player.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
I mean, you guys have come back from tough moments.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
And you know.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Pixture yourselves in durious what is over the course of
the seasons in the past, what's the overall tonent messaging
in there right now?
Speaker 9 (08:39):
You know, for us, it's it's a you know, continue
to fight. You know, you know everybody here in this
organization is we're all fighters. You know, we've been through adversity.
We know what that looks like. And there's no quit
in this group. And I'm excited to show the world that.
Speaker 7 (08:56):
Well where is it to get Isaiah Liry back on
the field this past Sunday and just you know, how
much more does that expand your entire offins where can
be multi.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, he looked great.
Speaker 9 (09:05):
You know, he was flying around, you know, made some
really big plays, some big blocks, and you know, picked up,
like you where he left off. So he's gonna be
a big part of this offense and what we do
as a team. And you know, played really well and
we're gonna be able to open that up and expand
that with him, and it's gonna look really good if
it is Cooper.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
Just from your perspective, how much time does it take
throughout the week to kind of get on the same
page of him. I know the playbook's not going to change,
but just learning his tendencies, just his ball, how.
Speaker 9 (09:32):
Comes to you all of that, I think just open communication,
you know within the group of you know how he
sees things, you know how he wants you to run
the route, and just being able to to be there
for him and be friendly to him, be the quarterbacks
best friend. I think we've got a lot of guys
that are committed to that and trying to help him
out as best we can. How much obviously more than
(09:54):
people are a very different quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Different skill sets.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Thing.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
How much would the offense change Cooper is the.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Starting Yeah, I think that.
Speaker 9 (10:02):
You know that at the end of the day, we
have a we have a core group and you know,
Lamar is one of them. There's no one else like Lamar.
No one's you know, been like Lamar. But at the
end of the day, we've got a core group of
offensive guys and we're gonna use everybody, and you know
it's gonna be diverse in that way. Okay, thanks guys.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
We also heard from outside linebacker Tavis Robinson.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
How has been kind of the team's mindset this week
doing the importance of this game as well as the
number of injuries that we're.
Speaker 10 (10:39):
Done with the fove Yeah, I think our mindset has
been coming out here and getting better. You know, with injuries,
guys got to step up, and I think we have
the guys that do that. So it's just about taking
it one day at a time, correcting our mistakes and
just getting better every day.
Speaker 9 (10:53):
You know, the goal every week is to go one
and oh, but just being one and three change any
of the kind of thinking around.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
No.
Speaker 10 (11:00):
Again, I think it's just day by day, you know,
the pass of the past. Obviously we're going through that
some adversity right now. But you know, I and this
team looks as an opportunity to come out here, be
intentional and get better every day.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
So city all.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
These potential moving parts on defense, you're suddenly kind of
one of.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
The old guys. Who are the established guys.
Speaker 8 (11:19):
What's your role in.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Now with all the new faces potentially in a eleven man.
Speaker 10 (11:25):
Yeah, I think, like you said, being you know, one
of the more stavage guys. It's just about you know,
being a little extra in communication, you know, making sure
with my knowledge and what not that I can give
it all to the guys out there, you know, communicate
a little extra. But again, we have the guys that
are going to step up, play great and uh yeah,
so I'm not worried about that at all.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Group of fighters.
Speaker 10 (11:50):
Yeah, I think you know what Mark said is true.
There's a whole bunch of fighters, whole bunch of dogs
in that room. And truthfully, I know how everyone's going
to respond. I know how this team is going to respond,
and I I saw it today out at practice.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
So Jesus, I mean, has it's been a shock to
the system the way teams have moved the ball against
you guys.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I mean, I know that was not your expectition or
anyone's expectation coming into the season.
Speaker 10 (12:11):
Yeah, no, we're definitely not not pleased with that at all.
But again it's, uh, it's about correcting it, correcting mistakes.
I think everything is very correctable. So again it started
today in correcting that and just coming out and getting
better and focusing on the small details on those lines.
Speaker 9 (12:26):
Last year, the defense took its lumps first month, the
first two months.
Speaker 7 (12:30):
A lot of credit to the coaching staff for kind
of helping it turn things around.
Speaker 8 (12:34):
What can they do here like this to help you guys,
help put you guys in a position to succeed.
Speaker 10 (12:39):
Yeah, I think mainly, you know, I think they're not
the ones out there. I think we're the ones out
there on the field every day. So I think it's
just about you know, playing and doing our jobs and
a one of eleven. You know, we have schemes and
stuff and we got to execute them properly, be in
the right place, and so yeah, it's on us as
players to go out there and do it.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Takes a little bit, we.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
Know, Van Duy and Travis Jones are both practice and
they didn't play something, but they're back in practice.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
How big would it be to get those back? You know,
what's the next man up to, a really important player.
Speaker 10 (13:06):
Say, yeah, it's definitely great to get them back. You know,
both of them are dogs, gonna be great to have
them back out there. But again, I trust everyone on
this team, whether it's it's them or anyone else.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
So it's really kind of what Jonas just asked.
Speaker 8 (13:16):
I mean, zach Or has kind of gotten beaten up
in the media, but a lot of people over.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
The first month of the season here, what do you
hear any of that? And what would you.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Say in his defense?
Speaker 10 (13:27):
I don't hear any of that really, No, I don't
pay attention to you know, the outside social media and
all that. But I think zach Or is a great
coach and he puts us in the positions to to
be great and make plays. So again, it's on us
as players to go out there, execute the scheme and
make the plays what our numbers called men.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Just feel the sense of emergency at practice? Is there
anything to sit out to the just practice wise?
Speaker 10 (13:48):
It did you feel like yeah? I think just it
felt like we were all again doing our one of
eleven and you can tell, you know, when we're playing
that way. So I felt that today it's going to
go in watch the film and again just take it
day by day, continue to just focus on small details.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
Do you feel like this team has good habits?
Speaker 5 (14:05):
But at this point one hundred percent?
Speaker 11 (14:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (14:07):
I think it's about having these habits and continue to
build on them and just continue to, you know, make
the habits even better than they already are. So I
think day by day it'll it'll it'll.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Get better for sure.
Speaker 10 (14:18):
Right, Thank you, appreciate appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
In the locker room today we heard from wide receiver
Shot bait.
Speaker 7 (14:30):
Shot.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
I've been ideally the team isn't where it wants to
be right now, but what kind of is the mindset
of the balance of knowing it's week by week, this
is not the start you wanted and there's some injury
adversity ahead for you.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
I just think we got to lock in and you know,
man up and myself and know the cars toay you
know what I'm saying, that we got right now and
you know, find ways to be better. You know what
I'm saying all across the board. So hopefully we can
do that, we can get back onto that.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
Mark was telling us outside that for a backup quarterback,
if he has to go with one, it's about open
communication and the quarterback's best friend. What's your mindset of
when you work with someone who's not.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Someone like Lamar. I would definitely agree with Mark.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
You know, we don't get a lot of reps saying
with Coop, so being able to you know, uh, be
communitive and on what we wanted, what he wants to
get the job done. And you know, Cooper's done a
amazing job to see being here. So, uh, we got
all the trust that he you know what I'm saying,
get job done.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Okay, you know obviously it's kind of open and with Lamar, Uh, how.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Big of the challenge would be for the offense if
Lamart is unable to play on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
I mean it's a challenge every day, you know what
I'm saying. We go out there with Lamar. You know
what I'm saying, Without Lamar, we win. With Lamar, we lose.
With Lamar, we get waiting to lose with anybody.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
So at the end of the day, it doesn't change
the fact that from top down, we gotta change the
way we do things and uh, how we approach things.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
You know what I'm saying, they get their result that
we want.
Speaker 9 (15:50):
You look back at the Kansas City Games, how what
what did it work for you guys?
Speaker 5 (15:54):
A move that's a good nothing work for us?
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Uh to be on it from from our perspective, Uh,
we just gotta do a better job.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
We had a good first drive, but after that.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
We we couldn't really you know what I'm saying, get
a drive sustained then you know, be able to put
points on the board. So we just can't play like
that if we wanna win the super Bowl.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
This is kind of what's what's the mindset now going
into this week knowing kind of nothing work now this
game being as important.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
As it is against an AMC opponent.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
I mean obviously everybody's in the mood uh right now.
So I mean the mindset is find a way to
get this win. You know what I'm saying, no matter nobody,
how to get it done. And I think we got
it in in this week with a w.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
A number of guys who talk about kind of the
resilience in the of this team and the mindset of.
Speaker 8 (16:36):
Of a bunch of fighters.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
How would you describe the resilience of the blocker.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
I would say the resilience is good.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
I just think that we still need to continue to
to come together bun or whatever that looks like. But
I think we need to be resilient Sunday for sure.
Speaker 11 (16:52):
Is it is this game where the playmakers, you know,
look at each other and say, hey, we still have
a lot of of dogs, A lot of guys can
make plays on this offense, and we can kind of
overcome the loss.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
Of the mark.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Yeah, I mean we we g got a lot of dogs.
I mean, we got a lot of people who can
make plays. I think we just gotta or we gotta
you know, be in a position to make plays and
and on our and as players, we gotta you know,
execute those plays. So the Ravens always got the guys.
We always got the guys to get the job done
or matter who's playing. So it's all about execution and
(17:20):
been on the same page.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Is it surprising or confusion at all when you do
come off of okay, take out the injuries, but when
you come off performance like Kansas City, when you know
what this offense is capable of doing, and then.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
What happens very confusing, Uh, very confusing for me. I
would say probably a lot of us, but I would
say very confusing.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Do you things stick out immediately of what what happened
and what needs to happen versus still kind of a
punt scratcher.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Mm.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
We know what needs to happen, it's something matter. Are
we gonna do what needs to happen? So hopefully we get.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Those things fixed and uh we start winning some games.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Thank you job. You appreciate.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
