Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Past podcast. The date is Monday,
August eighteenth. After today's training camp practice in Owen's Mills,
we heard from head coach John Harbaugh as well as
the Ravens Senior Special teams coach Randy Brown. We'll start
off with hearing John Harbaugh's thoughts on today's practice.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Okay, good to see everybody. Appreciate you being here cooled
off today. Huh, it's the first cool day of camp.
I think let's have something to do with the hurricane.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I thank you.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
I tell you if you want to know, but I'll
tell you.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Okay, here you.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah, you got connections, connections give that at all.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
You could do. You could fund it the screen here
we haven't. Yeah, there you go. Really happy with the practice.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I thought the guys were ready to roll, locked in,
had an next and practice very sharp.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Just what we needed today. So we're on our way
and try to have the best week winning we can have.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Go down there to Washington on Saturday and play. I'll
be mostly the young guys playing in that game, and
and then we'll be on to the bills. What question, Jeff,
where you wanting to split both of them when the
young guys competing on the veteran started to think about
boom building. Yes, exactly, it'll be it'll be kind of
focused on both of those two things. We do want
(01:30):
to go down there and play, and guys are fighting
for jobs and for opportunities, and also guys who will
be playing we know are going to make the team
will be playing that game too, uh, to get themselves
ready for what's next in the gain experience. But then
also we'll be practicing for the start of the regular
season two.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Practice with the Canner foin thirday.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Can you tell us thanks for this for can tell
us what kind of went into that a little bit
and does that change the schedule at all or what
how has it changed for you guys.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Well, it changes the schedule in the sense that we
won't schedule around to joint practice. It just didn't work
out timing wise. I mean, they're playing Monday night, they're
playing tonight, so it wasn't going to be the kind
of practice possible that we that we really need this
week for them.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
I mean, they're just not a short week.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
So to go all the way down there for what
it would have had to have been just didn't make sense.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
We both tried.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
I mean, we both wanted to do it. I know,
I know DQ wanted to do it. I wanted to
do it. But it's got to work. It's got to
be the best thing for your team. And it just
wouldn't have been the type of practice that would have
been worth going down there for.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
So I would have.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Loved to a practice against them because they're so good,
you know, and they do such a good job.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
But the timing wasn't right.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
John, I don't know if you would have seen it
with the Browns name Joe Flaco the week going to
quarterback of the Scurcy Red thoughts are excitement or reaction
to him probably coming to Baltimore week two. Yeah, I
just focused on that aspect of it. I mean, we
know we play in week two and we'll be preparing
for them now, just you know, you prepare for your
first really four opponents, you know, in terms of preparation
(03:01):
for those games. So knowing that that he'll be the
starters is good. I'm sure that I think we had
that idea already, probably you can tell. But a lot
of respect for Joe. Obviously, his homecoming back here will
be a big story. Uh, We'll try to just focus on,
you know, playing the best game we can. But we
know Joe can sling it, you know, we know what
he's capable of doing. We also know what kind of
(03:21):
team they are and how how tough they are to
play against. So that'll be the it won't be the
focus right away directly, but it'll be in the back
of our minds.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
Generally get changer you start seeing them, even the preseasons.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
I feel like.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
That's mom.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It definitely is momentum we want to build for the
season in terms of in terms of gaining turnovers. All
the things that are impactful to winning are the things
we want to gain momentum on and and there's a
lot of those and I thought the guys did a
really good job of that in that last game down
there in Dallas. We did a lot of the things
that winning football teams do, you know, in games. So
I was happy to see that, and I want to
keep building on all those things.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Everything okay with him and really some of the other guys,
I guess in the DBAM runs way.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, the dB room right now is dealing with like
nothing serious in terms of season issues or even even
for the opener, but you know, he had he had something,
you know, just to kind of take care of that knee.
You do some things to kind of help it from
a health standpoint. Something he's been dealing with for a
few years now. So it's not anything we didn't expect.
Probably that we might might have been something to help,
(04:26):
but you had to take a couple of days after
you do that before you can practice. And the same
thing with d Hop, you know, he's you know, he's
an older guy working on his knee a little bit.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
So things like that.
Speaker 8 (04:38):
Each week's going to be a new experience for Tyler.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
Luke.
Speaker 8 (04:41):
How did you feel about the latest test in front
of him helping us up.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah, I thought he passed it with flying colors, you know,
and even that it was gonna be better.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
You know, he could have made.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
That kick, uh, the one that went left just over
the upright and then the kickoff you know, came up
a little short on the one.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
So he's trying. We're really working hard on the kickoffs.
I mean you saw them doing.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
It too, trying to find ways to make it tough
for the return team to field the ball. So we're
working on that stuff. Right now too, and not probably
be an ongoing experiment, you know, early in the season.
I think you'll see some some some strange kicks probably,
you know, to try to make make some things happen.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
John, When did you kind of come to this, you know,
where the game was.
Speaker 8 (05:19):
It kind of afterwards just trucking a sort.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Of you Tyler?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, uh, pretty much when I stood up there with
when you were sitting there and asked the question pretty much,
That's that's when I decided it seemed like the right
thing to do.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Uh. I think it makes sense.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
You know, he's earned it, like we said, and and
he's ready and have have tremendous confidence in him, you know,
and just like all the guys. I mean, he's gonna
go out there and play great.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
A lot of chat about the room Lowry, not just
much about day on Martin with on the other night.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Of course, I don't know you were asked about it
the Dallas, But what has stood out to you?
Speaker 8 (05:51):
Of course we'll ask you want to sort of elevator.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Yeah, you know, Kean.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
The first thing is, uh, I think his personality, man,
it's and this is infectious personality. Always smile, and he's
always energetic. He's always readied a role one day, well
in the very first days, because you know, he's kind
of a kind of a trial guy, you know, and
you know he's fighting for his life from the first day.
He's had to fight for his life like a lot
of guys do every day.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
And I saw him early in the morning one morning.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
He kind of had this like look on his face
like he was tired, and you know, kind of like
kind of like that kind of grumpy.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
I'm like, why are you grumpy? I mean, you're in
the National Football League. I mean three days ago, where
were you, you know, and here you are.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You'd be walking around here with a smile on your
face and a bounce in your step, buddy, and uh
and he started laughing. And that's how he's been. I mean,
he was that way. I think he was probably just early.
I don't know, maybe he hadn't had breakfast yet. But
he's brought that kind of personality to the field, you know,
he really is. He's into it, and he's played well,
and uh, you know he's making a run at this thing.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
John talking to Randy after you you've been trusted your
kicking operation in for a very long time now. I mean,
if you have to sort of boil down why he's
your guy, and you know, obviously again with Tyler, what what.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Is it about?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
If I was going to boil it down, I would
say there's a lot of things. I mean, he does
a great job teaching those guys. Is a very good teacher,
and he's been doing it for song. He was a
kicker himself, he was in camp with the Packers about
forty years ago. But I would say it boils out
to me is he knows what he's doing. I mean,
he knows what he's doing. He's a he's a pro,
(07:24):
and he knows what he's looking for. He knows how
to teach. It is the fundamentals that he teaches. He
taught me the fundamentals of kicking way back, you know,
Beck in Philly in the early two thousands. I learned
from him about the kicking technique. So I think it's
very sound and and you know he's just he's been proven.
I mean he's brought the best out and kickers here.
All the kickers have come through the system here. Even
(07:45):
when they didn't become the kicker here, they became the
kicker somewhere else. It kind of shows you, I think,
how how good he is it what he does.
Speaker 8 (07:55):
John, any update whatsoever on Emory Jones's.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Situation, Yeah, this pointing it doesn't he's not gonna make
it to the start of the regular season. Uh, I
would say the doctor, the surgeon. The best I can
tell you is, you know, he wants it to make
he wants to be sure that it's fully right, and
and that's that's the way it should be. We respect that,
and so it's gonna take a little longer, so we
won't be counting on him early on in the season.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
John Isaaca I R candidate.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah, Uh, there was there was some ligament damage in
there with it with a dissocated elbow. If it had
been a dislocated elbow clean, it would have been about
three weeks.
Speaker 8 (08:31):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Since it's not, it's gonna have to undergo surgery. It's
not a season ender though. Uh maybe midway in the
season sometime he'll have a chance to come back.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
Davis suddenly played a few snaps and yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
He's been sick. He's been dealing with some sickness stuff.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
So hit the mask on again today, so hopefully he
can start feeling better.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
John do you know, I know it's still three weeks,
but do you have a better sense now by Isaiah
likely whether he's an option for week more one? Is
he coming along is rehab?
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Well, uh, you know what, I'll have to check on that.
I don't have that option now. If that, since it's
week one, I'm probably not gonna share that, you know,
as easily as some of these other ones, just because
might want to keep him guessing a little bit on
that one. But it's in that it's always gonna it
was always going to be in that range for a
few weeks, so that one might be a little harder
to pin down.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
It might be hard to pin me down on that one.
Speaker 8 (09:24):
We might find out when you guys released a roster.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Right If I R, you might you might get some
I would give you some some If he was on
I R, that'll give you some information. If he's not
an I R, you're not gonna know anymore. All right,
Thanks guys.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
That was head coach John Harbaugh answering questions following today's
training camp practice. Next up, you'll hear from Ravens Senior
Special teams coach Randy Brown.
Speaker 7 (09:54):
But I wanted to start off so You guys know,
my daughter Ryan sings national anthem, so this Sunday for
the fan going to the game. She's going to be
at the Orioles game Sunday, so do the anthem and
then the Godless America in the seventh inning.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
So love the Orioles. Nick.
Speaker 7 (10:08):
All the guys down there have been so wonderful to
have her do the anthems as she's going to do
again this year.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
So it's a treasure. But okay, who's up.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
So every time we talked to John, we talked to
Eric to keep selling this whole offseason.
Speaker 8 (10:22):
Already's going to find this kicker, Rainy the Kate tell
us a little bit.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
Explained to us.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
All went through the process of, you know, going through
scouting these guys and de signing one Tyler.
Speaker 7 (10:33):
Sure, Patrick, do we have thirty minutes or is this
a five minutes the deal? You know, Jamison, For all
the years I've been evaluating kickers, punters, long snappers, there
is a process I have.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
But this year was a little different.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
This year was I kind of had to narrow it
down and being fortunate at the NFL, I run the
Specialist showcase. You know, we had twenty seven specialists there,
which included ten kickers.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
So I kind of narrowed it down.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
We got, I want to say, I got down about
twenty five thirty college guys, and then of course there
was the NFL free agents too, it wasn't just the
college guys. And then we narrowed it down to what
do we look for, you know, and what do we
look for here?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
We look for a straight ball kicker.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
And you can go all the way back and the
kickers we've had in stove Gano Haushka, Will Watts, Tucker Kundaff,
Cameron Dick or Corey Vedvick. These are guys we've taught
to kick a straight ball. So what was the process like?
The process was like, how can I find somebody who's
got a strong leg, who strong mentally.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
And can kick a straight ball?
Speaker 7 (11:34):
And it all came down to the when it was
all said and done, it came down to Tyler.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I made three West Coast trips back and forth.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
Occasionally I text John to tell him where I was
at Most of the time he text me back, He's like,
oh great, I didn't care.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
We weren't in the office today, so it was good.
Speaker 7 (11:49):
But that's how the process started was just evaluating and
seeing who fits our criteria.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
Randy, I'm sure you're looking for the best possible kicker anyway,
But is there anything added when you're replacing who you
had here? You know, when you have what was thought
to be the greatest kicker of all time? Is there
anything added to that when you're looking forward to replacement?
Speaker 7 (12:11):
So I want whoever that guy is to be the
best of who that guy was. And that was part
of the discussions I had with the players. You know,
when you're sitting here trying to talk to to college players.
I wasn't guaranteed we were going to have a draft pick,
so I had to also make sure that if we
were going to get a guy who's an undrafted free agent,
I could convince him to come here, right, And we
want to make the best of you.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
And so what do I tell Tyler Loop? Every day?
Speaker 7 (12:33):
I need the best Tyler Loop ever? It was the
same way with Will Luttz. You know, we will we
want you to be the best Will Lutts And you
know Will was ninety percent last year and Cameron Dicker
was ninety percent last year, So we want them to
be that person. What is the best that you can
be and how can we get you to that?
Speaker 3 (12:50):
And it all comes back to process.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
And we've John's talked about it for years and all
of our kickers we've talked about process, whether it's been
our long snappers. I mean, you know, we've gone through this.
We've had six long snappers in the NFL just last year.
So it's the process, Cordell, that's what we really want.
And we found a guy that has that process. And
I could tell a whole other story about our dinner
in Arizona, which maybe we can go to, but and
(13:14):
he understood he had his own process, which was.
Speaker 6 (13:17):
Great elaborate on what the process is.
Speaker 7 (13:21):
Yeah, So when I interview a guy, I want to
know what is your process? Meaning, how do you practice?
How many kicks a day do you do you take
during practice? What's your lifting schedule, what's your sleeping schedule,
what's your eating schedule? And then come game day, well,
what's your warm up schedule? How many kicks do you do?
How many no steps, how many one steps, how many
(13:41):
two steps at each end?
Speaker 3 (13:43):
What do we do?
Speaker 7 (13:44):
And of all the guys I interviewed, So I'll do
the restaurant story now.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
So we go to Arizona.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
So I go to Tucson and spend two and a
half hours with Tyler at a restaurant in Tucson, which,
by the way, everybody knows I'm a big pepsi guy,
and they had fountain pepsi, so I knew I was
going to be there all night long, which was great.
So two we were there, two two and a half hours,
and he explained to me his process, and it was intricate,
like to the point of, like I'll explain it to
(14:11):
you guys who are here and fans are watching at home.
There's a spot on your foot where you have to
kick the football. All right, there's a spot on your foot.
He knew exactly where that spot was on your foot,
and you do it by which lace you want to
hit the football on.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
So what is that process? The process is how am.
Speaker 7 (14:27):
I going to make sure that that spot on my
foot hits one inch below of the middle of the football,
which is our sweet spot depending on the different sides
of the football. Now I can go into more of
a process of when you're out there, Okay, where's my target?
How far back do I go? How many inches away
from the football am I who understands that process without
I mean, I've only had one minute to explain to
(14:48):
you the process, so this kid had two hours.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
And so I knew we were kind of there.
Speaker 7 (14:53):
So we kind of moved a couple tables away and
we're in this restaurant in Tucson, and I said, all right,
show me, and he does his whole dep's back over
and all shows me. Okay, this is how I would
hit the ball. Here, this is my lean on my ball.
And I texted John afterwards, I said, I think we
have our guy. And that's what was really the restaurant
in Tucson, and I forget the name of it, but
it had fountain PEPSI randon.
Speaker 8 (15:15):
You obviously can look at a kicker's fundamentals and break
it down what you like and don't like, and you
can see his routine and all that.
Speaker 9 (15:23):
But how difficult, you know, this position, How difficult it
is mentally? How difficult is it to gauge from a
kicking prospect how he's going to respond in a clutch moment,
and how he's going to deal with pressure.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
And all that. He call his mom and dad and
see mom and dad, think how he's been talked to
his other coaches. The guy played, you know, he played
forty seven games. John Hoylan we brought in played fifty
some games. The kid out of Andy, out of Miami
played fifty games. So you know, you kind of watch
their pressure situations, how they handle those situations already. But
(16:00):
as I've learned in all my years in National Football League,
going all way back to Jeff Jager and David Akers,
until you're in that moment, who's the guy that can
rely on his process when you're in that moment? And
you know, we've had some of the greatest kickers ever
come out of this place because they got that moment
and they were able to stay in their process. Too
many kickers just look at the uprights like I just
(16:23):
got to make it somehow, I just got to make it. No,
we have a process of regardless if there's one second
left in the game, or you're on the opening drive,
you ran a kickoff back, you got to run out
and do a thirty three yard extra point.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
That what's my process to kick the ball straight.
Speaker 7 (16:37):
And when you talk to a guy too, Jeff, you
can tell you can look in a guy's eyes, you
can tell who's a little flaky and who's like dialed
in and the guys who like won't look at you,
or maybe they go a little squirrelly, you know, for
not to bring you to the facility.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
How many guys were in the pool that you were.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
Looking at thirty?
Speaker 7 (16:57):
You know, Jerry had started at thirty, but I would
say I probably got down to ten that I really believed.
So the difference between kicking and Baltimore, which is arguably
one of the hardest places to kick in the National
Football League, Jerry to kicking New Orleans or kicking in Dallas,
Like this was a layup this weekend. You know, you're
not going to have layups. You're not going to have
(17:18):
games like this. So you've got to find who can
hit a ball that can play out here. And that's
the whole thing about what we did with Tyler, because
you know, I've heard, I've heard and read some of
the things that you guys have put out there. But
it's a totally different football, guys. The NFL ball and
the ball they use in college are two different footballs.
So if you have a totally different football, that means
(17:40):
you have a totally different sweet spot. That means you
have a totally different swing plane. That means you have
a totally different plan. So all of that goes into
that type of ball. So what did I do, Joy?
Speaker 3 (17:49):
I had to find who could actually.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
Kick a ball the way that we need to kick.
And what happens is there's not a lot.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Now.
Speaker 7 (17:56):
I'd say easily, there's got to be probably five six
guys came out of this class that could kick, but
I think only about two of them could kick out doors.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
In my opinion, You've.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
Pitched a lot of great kickers that we talked about,
but in terms of leg strength, we're does Tyler compared to.
Speaker 6 (18:11):
Some of those guys.
Speaker 7 (18:12):
Tyler has has elite leg strength and you know, we're
fortunate enough to be on the field with Brandon Aubrey
this week. You know he saw Brandon's leg strength. But yeah,
it's elite. You know, we have the track man here
which is outstanding. It kind of helps us. It helps
us with apex, it helps us with launch angle, it
helps us with speed and really kind of gauge of
(18:33):
each kick. But yeah, I mean, he's he's he's got elite.
But you know, we brought in John Hoyland for a reason.
We brought in John Hoylan because we know John could
kick the ball straight. You know, the guy missed two
kicks under forty in fifty some games. And we wanted
a guy that that could challenge Tyler and not just
turn into a home run hitting contest, you know.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
And so we're out there.
Speaker 7 (18:54):
It's guys, we're still like on the driving range right now,
and we're still working on lean, We're still working on
things like that. That what works best for him, But
I wanted to really compliment what John Hoyland did. There
was one day out here that John went nine for nine,
and you know, we remember I was alternating for a
while there. So John goes nine for nine and Tyler
came in that morning and said, I can't miss today.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
I can't miss today. So he went ten for ten.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
That was a day on the other field we hit
from sixty three, sixty five and sixty eight. So thankfully
John and Tyler both really liked each other and they
worked really well. We are where we are today because
of the competition and that the Ravens allowed me to
bring two kickers in and not like a lot of
teams are saying three specialists, that's all you got.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
It seemed, you know, Tyler when he got drafted, he
had his Raven shirt already kind of felt confident that
this was going to be the team. Take us from
your perspective through day three of the draft, where you
sweating that one out? I mean, they made it clear
this is the one kicker you want. He's your guy.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Do I look like I sweat?
Speaker 7 (19:54):
Ever? Jeff twelve years is a Jersey Mayer. Does it
look like I sweat?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I was dying. I was die And we got to
the fifth round.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
We got to the fifth round, and you know, I'm
kind of, you know, given every hint possible, he might
get off the board, he might go off the board.
Please let's go. We do you know what is the alternative?
And but Tyler and I it's some really good conversation. Uh,
he's he really, you know, he is definitely a faith,
family football guy. And I really wanted him as much
(20:25):
for who he was and who I know he could
be two at the time, the big legged kicker. Okay,
but yeah, I was, Yeah, I was sweating it out
just a little bit. And I was just a little
excited when we drafted him. I think you saw that
in the video. But it was good that here's somebody.
Speaker 8 (20:41):
I was how much are you?
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I know that in the game the other night there
were two penalties on picks and I'm muchure you're involved
in that strategy and says something.
Speaker 8 (20:51):
Obviously, this big all feel is something that.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
He hasn't got.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
Yeah, we're all really working through it. You know, we
get ideas from what we see on film Tyler had.
Tyler has a deep background in soccer. I don't know
how many of you have spent a lot of time,
but Tyler is an outstanding soccer player. He was going
to go to Europe and play soccer in high school.
So we're kind of working through it right now. We're
kind of seeing what's going to work, what isn't going
to work. And that's great about preseason game and that's
(21:16):
what's great about Harves is we're like, hey, we're going
to try this, try that.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Okay, great, but this.
Speaker 7 (21:21):
Is the time to do it because it's just a
dramatic difference in coverage, in the way that this is.
This is set up and when we put this, the
small committee of us that put this new new play
in effect, we knew that if you hit dirty balls
down there and they hit the ground first and you
allow that kickoff team a couple of yards. You know,
it could be an advantage. So but it's you know,
(21:43):
so he loves it. He's doing it, he's trying it
each day. It's a lot of fun. And unfortunately we had,
you know, a couple of balls bounced the wrong way.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
But turf and grass are going to be two totally
different things.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, were you upset with the way he tackling.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
Up to make a tack with all or the fact
that he maybe didn't list say on.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
That you were talking about the tackle?
Speaker 8 (22:05):
What do you take us through that?
Speaker 7 (22:06):
What do you want to Well, I've been telling these
guys I should be on video more often. Right so
our Tyler in my video has gotten five million views already.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Okay, so I've been saying put us on video.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
We're so so see Tyler's got one story.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
I got another. I know this.
Speaker 7 (22:20):
All I told him is when we're upstairs, when when
that guy's near the sideline, can we just push him out?
Speaker 3 (22:25):
All right? Really?
Speaker 7 (22:26):
Now, week one, Buffalo, you got to make a tackle.
You're making that tackle, but you know, to the sideline,
let's just.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Kind of guide him out.
Speaker 7 (22:34):
But uh, he's an athlete, and you know, and he
did it. He did it, and I was proud of him,
but he was he I think he was happier and
more shocked at the end. And I think Jordan's doubt said, well,
you just hugged him. So either way, he got out
of it unscathed. But there was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
You got off here last year. And so Kylie about
Jordan and his part in the entire operation is holding.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
What has it been like now that you.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Have the veteran as the long snapper and holder rather
than the kicker.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Teaching the older.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Okay, see, I knew something I was going to bring up.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
Okay, Nick Moore is the Lamar Jackson of long snappers
in the NFL because he does everything right. Okay, so
think of this and just go back and watch the
game this week.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
All right, he had eight pretty much twelve o'clock snaps.
Speaker 7 (23:19):
And twelve o'clock snaps are when the laces are facing
towards the uprights. Okay, six o'clock is when the lasers
are facing the kicker.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
All right.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
You see where he was on point on the snaps
to Jordan on punt he blocks, He's got a block,
defensive tackle, sometimes defensive ends. All right, we ask him
to block different than any other of the thirty two
teams in the NFL, and he covers. He covers as
well as anybody's two hundred and sixty pounds. Okay, doesn't
get enough credit Jordan. I've said that for year after year,
(23:48):
that this that Jordan is one of the top five
snappers in the NFL, I mean holders in the NFL.
When you got to put a ball on pretty much
a dime, right, you got to put it on a dime,
Then you got to put on the dime, and then
you've got to get the lean. And right now Tyler's
we're working on where his lean is. So there's a
movement or two involved, and we got to do all
that in one point three three seconds. Okay, so Jordan's
(24:11):
at an elite level. But what I was really happy
about was the way Jordan punnett in the game and
when you look at his three directional punts, we went
left on the three directional punts, put every ball outside
the numbers, and really proud of him and where his
growth is to. And that's the one thing about Nick
and Jordan and Tyler it's doesn't matter. They come every
day with the new idea of hey, maybe I can
(24:31):
just do this a little different, this a little better.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
But I'm so happy with where we are with these
three guys.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
It's so fun to come to work every day because
all they want to do is improve.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
They really do.
Speaker 8 (24:40):
Lady, when Justin got here his first year, you get
a lot of work with his you know, kind of
rebuild him or whatever have you had to do that
same process with Tyler to maybe kind of change different
things that he's been doing in the past.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
So we do it with all the kickers we've brought in, okay,
all of them. And so Tyler had a little different
way that he planned it.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
He had a little different way where.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
He struck the ball, all right, He had a little
different way with how he swung swung, and his sweet
spot was a little lower, so we had to change
all that and his apex was higher. So if you
watch some of his kicks at Arizona, those things are
up there. Well that you kick that ball up there
in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore in November, forget it.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
It's got no shot.
Speaker 7 (25:25):
So we have to try to change the apex in
the trajectory. So we've worked hard on it. We've only
had three months, but we've worked very hard on changing
of how we can hit a ball in the AFC
North the way.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
The ball should be hitting the AFC North. Okay, all right, guys,
thanks for asking.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
