Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Past podcast. The date is Friday,
November twenty first, and today, after practice ahead of the
week twelve home matchup with the New York Jets, we
heard from head coach John Harbaugh.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Okay, good see everybody here. Appreciate you being here. Good practice.
All eyes towards Sunday against the Jets. Try to put
our best foot forward. What questions you have.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
So we're gonna have to be introduced to it's been
it's been a while since you've actually played there. How
it's going to feel to be back at home, you know,
after being such a long vitual.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, we're looking forward to it. Excited about our fans,
you know, be back with our fans. I hope they're
out in full force and and and rolling and loud
and making it everything that M ANDT Bank can be.
You know. That's that's what we're excited about.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
John.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
We'll get to see Brandon Stevens on the other side.
I know there's a business element when a player leaves,
but is there some pride you take in someone who
develops like that gets some contract and I think he's
played like all but one defensive snap for them this year.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
It really is there, really really is, Luke. I mean,
it's it's something that you do kind of appreciate because
Brandon's a guy came in and we took a chance
really as a fourth round pick, and he was a
guy that was new to the position in college even
and works so hard, so diligent, so dedicated, became a
really good player and and then, like you said, had
an opportunity to go there and sign a great contract

(01:25):
and doing so well seemon tape. He's playing really well.
Very proud of him, but he's on the other side
in this next game, and we respect him and be
a great competition.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
John. Whether it's because of injuries or just roster situation,
David Jabo hasn't played extensively like he has until this year,
where he's playing a lot of snaps each and every game.
How do you evaluate what he's been able to do
over the last month or so since he started getting
regular snaps.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Great question. Yeah, he's he has and I think he's
playing very well in terms of what he's been asked
to do. He's been out there a lot on first
and second down, on rundowns and uh and and what
we call get back on track and any second second
medium to second long downs. He's done well. Uh, I
think he's done really good job. I mean he's earning
more and more playing time as he goes. It's good

(02:16):
to see. And uh, I know he wants to get
to the quarterback too and get a chance to rush
the pass or too. So all those things with the.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Linebacker wrot turned Simpson. This seems like he's kind of
been playing more and more on the outside. What have
you thought of his development as he's gotten more reps
over there?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Dude, that's I guess it's it's interesting you guys ask
the question kind of back to back because that one
thing impacts another. You know, Trent's going on to the
edge a lot, and he's playing that in the pass
rush role as well. And that package that we put
out there, Uh so it takes takes opportunities away from
some of the other defensive ends. And he's done a
great job. He got the he got the quarterback hitting
the last game and forced the intentional grounding. Uh he's done.

(02:52):
He's done some other things. He can also drop in coverage.
I think it's pretty versatile. It's added a lot to
our defense. Are good.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I think as far as like the sentence of big plays,
I think the second day at donthy deel out there
a brief hall being an explosive batch, I think is
percentage of the big big bones, or like second only
doth the keeler. When you go against an explosive back
like that, what's kind of the you know what a
key you stress to your defense game?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, I mean it's you know, all the things that
you see. I mean, each one of the backs is
somewhat different. But the thing that they all the explosive
quote unquote explosive backs usually have in common is that
they can really run fast. You know. Now there's different styles.
Some guys are slasher, some guys make you miss and
dance and different things, but they all run real hard.
They're all pretty physical. All these guys can run through tackles.

(03:38):
They can all you know, bring a defense in and boom,
take it outside to the edge real quickly. You saw
that last week as well. Or take it to the
back door on you and get past you. I mean,
those are things we have to we have to account for.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
We have to.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Leverage the runner, we have to leverage the blockers, but
we also have to leverage the runner, because the runner
can get away from me if you don't. So it's
a big point of emphasis in this game.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
We haven't seen Bateman of practice the last two weeks.
How's he progressing, especially with having in mind a quick
turnaround for Cincinnati next Thursday.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Right, he's progressing well, would have a chance for that.
We'll have to see how that goes.

Speaker 7 (04:13):
Johns program kicks off this week and you have a
lot of guys involved in it, and we watched guys
yesterday's seen the cleats for the first time. It was
very emotional because a lot of them, you know, have causes, cancer,
suicide prevention. I mean, what does that mean? It makes
you proud to have guys that are actually again you're
always involved in the community.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
But this is something else.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
It really does. I mean, you just I mean, guys
play on the field and they're out there and they're
competing and we're all you know, fans and fans are
right there with you, you know, fighting for the cause
of trying to win a football game, you know, the
cause of being a raven and a fan in football
and all that. And then behind the scenes, you know,
these guys are coaches and players you know, they're they're people,

(04:51):
you know, and they've got lives and they've got things
that matter to them, whether it's family members who've had
different tribulations that they fought through and trials in their
life and honoring them in that way, or certain causes
that have impacted them in their life. So for the
league to give the opportunity to share that, you know,
with the cleats, I think is really really cool and
really neat and yeah you do you see it. I

(05:14):
mean we have people that people do a great job
with the artwork. It's pretty crazy the cleats, and a
lot of times you get auctioned off too right for fundraising,
This is one of the great causes in the league.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
