Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press PST podcast. The date is Friday,
December twelfth, and today we heard from head coach John
Harbaugh one more time before the Ravens head to Ohio
to face the Cincinnati Bengals in an AFC North matchup.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Okay, good to have everybody here. We appreciate having you here.
And at the end of the press conference rule we'll
talk about the high school Coaches of the Year and
that's that's a great award that the Ravens do, so
we're excited to do that in honor football. But with that,
we had another really good practice and we're excited for
the opportunity to go to Cincinnati and play the Bengals
in a really, really important game. And we've had a

(00:43):
good week and now we need to go play our
best game of the year. So what questions you have?
How many layers were you? How many layers for me Sunday,
There'll be some layers. They'll be layers. Yeah, they'll be
they'll be layers. It's gonna be uh, it's going to
be a great day for football. Like my college coach
used to say, Tom Reid, it's a great day for football.

(01:03):
And we look at him across side, and he'd say,
every day is a great day for football. So that's
how we're looking at it. Does that impact games at all?

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Of you feel?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I do think it does, you know. I think the
elements always are impactful and hopefully you can use them
to your advantage in some way, some form or fashion.
But the main thing is we've got to go play
winning football, you know, good fundamental winning football. That's what wins.
No matter what the elements are.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
The chance we see are Darius and Tavis.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
This week there is we'll have that announcement tomorrow. Those
guys practiced all week, so we'll make that final decision
here today and we'll make the announcement tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
What have you just seeing from you know, from their
practices in terms of where they're at and so forth.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I think they've looked good. You know, we'll talk to
the trainers and things like that, the docs, but they've
looked good. To me. What's most important keeping your feet
or your hands cold during that game? A lot of stuff. Yeah,
you gotta think of a uh uh we uh. When
we played Denver way back, right, that was that was
one of our coldest games. I had a stocking cap

(02:08):
like you had in pregame. I had it out there
and I was gonna wear the stocking cap because I thought,
you know, it's it's it's just more important to be warm,
you know, so you can think and stuff. And uh.
John Fox was the coach of the Broncos, and he
came out in the ball cap. And I've known Coach
Fox since I was in my late twenties. We coached
together at Pitt and h. He was BEA's a little
older at the time, you know, and and I had

(02:28):
a stocking cap eat a ball cap, and I thought,
you know what, I'm not coming out here. He's like
he's an older guy than I am. I gotta I
gotta wear a ball cap too. So I put my
took my stocking cap off, put my ball cap on,
came out there, gonna be a tough guy. You know.
I look across the deal. He's got a stocking cap
in a full Parker and you know in Mitten's it's
like he got me. And I did freeze in that game.

(02:52):
No mittens. I will not be wearing mittens on Sunday.
That's a wrong message. That's a ro message.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
And we was out of practice to day. Uh, we
just talk about you know, him being here, maybe wouldn't there.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Or what b Yeah, yeah, Ed Reid was a practice.
He was in there. He was here earlier, uh, talking
to the guys, talked to the defense earlier and then
came out to practice and just as we got started,
called the team up and had him talked to the
team and and he just talked about the brotherhood. He
talked about the brotherhood and the guys being close and
if you want to have that uh that uh, that
synergy on the field, that camarader around the field, you've

(03:28):
got to have it on the field off the field
and everything you do, you get to know each other
and care about one another. It was awesome, great message.
I'm sure being in the status. Uh yeah, Rashad Is
couldn't go today with the ankle. We'll have to see
how how it looks tomorrow in the Sunday at some point. No,
it's just a nagging thing into the ankle spring, you know,

(03:51):
just you fight through it. You fight through it, and
you can annoy it, I guess is the best way
to say it. And probably just been annoying it. You good, okay,
all right, Oh here we go drum roll. So we
got the first. The first will be the the high

(04:12):
School Coach of the Year Award for Tackle Football. The
twenty twenty five Ravens High School Coach of the Year
from Sparrow's Point High School, Nick Burkhart. Nick, come on
up here, man, because you're gonna have to do a
press conference. Stand right next to the here all right,
the high school flag. The Coach of the Year twenty

(04:33):
twenty five Ravens from Liganore High School. Brian Swaying, come on, Brian, Congratulations,
graduations man.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Sir, great you are.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
And then and all the coaches and all nominees, just
how much it means high school football, how important it is,
and how important coaches are, especially high school coaches really,
I'd say, my opinion, the fabric of our society and
what it does for young people. High school coaches are
are are on point and cutting edge of that. And
we're really appreciative of high school coaches, high school players

(05:07):
and and what it means to everybody. I know. Harball
Coaching Academy, we try to do a really good job
of of making that clear, you know, and making and
how important coaching is and what a difference coaches make
in young people's lives. So uh so check that out
if you get a chance and you're up first, buddy.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
I just want to take time to thank Coach Hardball
and Baltimore Evens for this opportunity. Thank everyone back home
Spari's Point, my coaching staff, my administration, uh, my team,
and my coaching staff for everything that they've done for
me to help me get where we are this season.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Thank you, Thank you. Great question, good question, tough question.
What does it mean to means for a point smaller school?

Speaker 4 (05:51):
You guys, really, I mean it means everything. Our community
truly is one of a kind down in Spari's Point
and to be able to not just for me, but
bring this spotlight down to our school and our community
truly does mean the world does.

Speaker 5 (06:06):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Thank you awesome, Thank you guys.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, thank you for the Ravens for making Flag possible
in the state of Maryland and being in Frederick, being
in the forefront means the world. I couldn't be up
here without my coaching staff though, because there's five of
us and they're what makes it up. I mean, just
the girls buying into everything. It's just amazing. Honor to

(06:30):
be up here having this award.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
How much is kind of the Ravens involvement in flag football?

Speaker 3 (06:37):
How much do you think that has helped spread everything?
I mean without the Ravens, it doesn't get off the ground.
I mean three years ago when they got teamed up
with Frederick County, I mean that was the start. I
mean without them, it doesn't happen. And I'm not here today.
So without the effort and the money that they put
into the whole flag program getting it started, I mean

(06:58):
I think even next year we have two more, three
more counties I believe join it in. So it's growing
by leaves and bounds every year.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
How many for the girls to be involved in football
like that? How much do they enjoy it? What are
they like to coach?

Speaker 3 (07:14):
So my girls, I've had a lot of them that
have been lacrosse players, softball and everything, and they wish
that it was there, especially the girls I've graduated this
year last year, that they wish it would have been
here earlier and they would have it would have been
their main sport. Like they just love going out there competing.

(07:35):
Just the fact that they get to play a sport
that they've cheered on for boys for years is amazing.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
Now a pro flag football league. So what do you
just think that'll do for the growth.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Of the sport exponentially? I mean having I mean just
college bringing it on. I mean I've heard like, I
think it's twenty eight or something like that. The d
one is supposed to be doing it. So the fact
that there's gonna be a pro league of it, it
just gives girls even more to strive for to be
a part of.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Does it help?

Speaker 3 (08:11):
It does, because our girls want to make sure that
they're keeping up with everything the boys are doing. I
mean at Lanard this year, it's been a phenomenal year.
I mean we had four state titles for the fall,
with field hockey, cheer girls, flag and boys finishing off
this past Saturday.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
