Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Pass podcast. It's Wednesday, December
twenty fourth, and the Ravens are getting ready for Saturday
night's game against the Green Bay Packers. After practice today
we had a chance to hear from head coach John Harboll.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good practice, a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy,
excited about the preparation and excited about the opportunity. And
we're kind of digging in and we're working. So what
questions you have John?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
You know, obviously this is that that must win elimination
type of a situation. You know, how would you describe
kind of the mood, the kind of the pulse, and
for lack of a better word, of the team.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Yeah, it's been great.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I mean we had we had a great great enthusiasm,
great energy, locked in, dialed in, focus on the game plan.
All three phases started with a special teams meeting. It
was just it's been a great day.

Speaker 5 (00:54):
We didn't see Lamar again.

Speaker 6 (00:56):
Today's see somebody who could.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Go on one day?

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Or do you expect him to be out or what's do.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
You have any apple to eat?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
No, he's it's it's undetermined right now. Non participation today
was not able to practice, but he could play, you know,
without that practice.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
He's practiced, played a lot of football one a lot
of games for us. If he's ready to go, he
will go. If he can go, he will go. You
can bet on that.

Speaker 7 (01:22):
So so you say it was like undetermined right now with.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Them, Yeah, day to day.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Couldn't practice today, So we'll see where it's at tomorrow.
And uh, as we go forward.

Speaker 8 (01:32):
Could you just kind of explain colected to the layman,
you know, what the consequences are of the contusion. You know,
I think people heard you say berus and you're like,
why can't you play through that?

Speaker 6 (01:42):
But obviously you.

Speaker 8 (01:43):
See him Getty players miss a week two weeks with
the pet.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Oh yeah, yeah, well yeah, I guess it's not like
a black and blue mark. You know, these are these
are deep tissue contusions. I'm not a medical guy, but
I did see the m RI. I you know, it's
it's it's legit very painful. He tends to lock muscles
lock up around it. You can't you can't really move
very well. Uh, he's in he's in that process now

(02:08):
of loosening all that up hopefully, you know, and and
you can't really say when it's going to be right,
He's got to be able to play. He's got to
be able to be an athlete, be able to move.
And so when I when a contusion, uh that that word,
that type of damage to the tissue happens, then you
just have to you have to be able to play.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
You had to be able to be an athlete. You'd
be able to move around to do your thing.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
So that's what you're working back towards with all the
treatment and everything. So if you believe me, if he
can go out there and do it, this guy's one
of the ultimate competitors that you're ever going to see.
If he's able to go, he's going to be out
there going.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
What obviously you know Snoop has has played plenty for
you guys over the years. This year included what have
you seen from him so far this week?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Uh, he's looked good, He's looked good. He had a
really good day today, had a good good walk through yesterday.

Speaker 6 (02:55):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
He's on point with the game plan, so he's been
he's been running the practices obviously and doing a very
good job with it. So if it goes that direction,
we'll be we'll be we'll be you know, we'll be excited.
We'll be excited to go play the game either way.
So that's kind of where the guys are, that's where
the coaches are, players, you know, everybody, everybody's ready to
go play the game with the guys that we have

(03:18):
on game day.

Speaker 8 (03:22):
Is there a simple explanations for why green based defense
is so much better at home than on the road.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Oh boy, I don't. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
That's a good question. I haven't really looked at it
from that perspective. But we expect to get the best version. Uh,
that'sh seems like that's been a theme this year, you know,
so I'm sure they'll be ready to play as well.
They're you know, tough team, uh A well coach team,
discipline team, et cetera. And you know that's what you expect, John,

(03:50):
you know.

Speaker 6 (03:50):
With the stakes what they are.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Do you do you have to mention anything to the
team about what this game means for you know, your
your playoff or does it? Do you think everyone just kind.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Of everybody knows. But you know, we talk about what
we talk about.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
You know, the conversations that we have are very are
very close personal conversations. We've been with each other all year.
With most of the players, we've been with each other
for years, you know, so the relationships are very close.
So you know, when you're in a close relationship, you
don't have to like spell things out robot like fashion.
You know, we understand the depth of every situation. So

(04:26):
the guys know, you know, the guys are going to
go play really hard and really well and do their
best to go in the game. I'm very confident and
how they're gonna play, how they're gonna perform. I love
the way we're doing so many things, and just like
them and me and everybody else, we want to put
it all together. You know, we haven't really put it
all together yet. We've had moments, we've had games, but
we like to put it all together like we believe

(04:48):
we're capable of doing.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Going back to day.

Speaker 9 (04:51):
At the moment, it was like the think Malik Willis
will be disordered back just what have you seen from
him back up now?

Speaker 2 (04:57):
But first round, Paige, Yeah, yeah, we don't really know.
That's information that Uh that's good to know. Is that
how it looks? I haven't heard that really, what's your sources?
You just quoted yourself. You're telling me lak is gonna
be the quarterback. He didn't practice today, illness. Okay, there's

(05:20):
a lot of layers to this. Yeah, Okay, So I
guess that's kind of probably directs me to the answer.
We'll have to prepare for their offense first. You know,
you've got to get ready for the offense. They run
the same offense, both quarterbacks, So that's what we're kind
of working. But we understand that, you know the way
Malik plays, understand the way Love plays. So with that

(05:44):
in mind, our guys, you know, whichever quarterbacks out there
will kind of you know, we'll know who the quarterback
is and how they play. But Malik has done a
great job. I mean, I think he's really said a
good year when he's played. He's very lucive back there,
throws a good ball, His timing and his mechanics have
have really looked good this year. So he's obviously a
very dangerous quarterback. He looked good in this last game
when he played, So we'll be very much, very respectful

(06:06):
of him or whoever's back they're playing quarterback.

Speaker 6 (06:09):
John.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
It seems like whoever quarterback is, the Packers play with
a certain tempo, they seem very How do you, as
you know, preparing that defense, how do you try to
make sure everyone knows help quickly they get up that lone.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Yeah, we've worked in that the last two days, worked
that extensively.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Today.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
We show the clips, We show the TV copies of
it too, so you can hear the hear the words
of what's being said too, as much as you can
get through that, just to try to understand, you know
what's coming when it's coming, and it's not just like
one version of just they get They play fast. They've
got different types of tempos, different types of plays within
those tempos that come up in different situations, and there's

(06:47):
reconnois to recognize what they do. But more than anything,
we've got to operate quickly and be on point, be
locked in and see people coming out of the huddle,
do good you have with their own substitutions, because we
don't want to get caught substituting in a situation where
they're going fast, because they can get you with too
many men on the field, or get you off balanced
with the call. All those things are really important. We've
seen it before, something only team that does it we've

(07:07):
handled it so far this year. Hopefully we can do
a great job there handling as well.

Speaker 8 (07:14):
Okay, I don't like asking about other people's reporting, but
Preston wrote a column this week that's kind of reaching
critical mass right now online just said that Lumar has
left their meetings and that you've grown tired of them.
Just want to kind of give you the opportunity to.

Speaker 6 (07:29):
Just comment on that.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Well, uh, I think I said earlier in this season
it won't take too much credence and anonymous type sources.
So I don't know where that's coming from. I've never
seen I've never seen that ever. You know, that's that's
not something that I've ever witnessed. And I'm in every meeting,
so and to speculate and know how I feel about it,

(07:51):
I'll tell you how I feel. You know, I'm I'm
pretty transparent. I think all the guys in the building
will tell you. You know, if I have something of conversation,
something that I want to talk to him about, I'm
right up front, so that that's you know, that would
be wrong to say that that's not true. I had
a great conversation with Lamar this morning about a few
things and football and how he's feeling things like that.
So our relationship is is a plus. So I love him,

(08:15):
always have, always will. And uh, I know he's fighting
like crazy to get back. So anon ofus reports or
things that gets said or written or whatever, I don't
really Apprea.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
You know, I don't need anybody speaking for me, you know,
so just ask me and I'll tell you what I think.
All right?

Speaker 6 (08:34):
Thanks?

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Next up, we heard from quarterback Tyler Huntley Christmas.

Speaker 10 (08:45):
Everybody, what you know if you're you know, you know,
going to be the starting quarterback?

Speaker 3 (08:55):
And I know it's full term right now, but if
you are, how do you do kind of deal with
that pressure of knowing you know, this Saturday it's it is.

Speaker 6 (09:03):
A must win.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
If you don't win, eliminate from the playoffs.

Speaker 10 (09:06):
Man, a lot of our games been must win and
shoot is is every week we must win. So we
gotta focus on going one and oh this week and
if we're doing everything that we need to do to
get that.

Speaker 9 (09:21):
If you do start, do you feel like the opportunity
you have with the Bears makes this fit more seamless?

Speaker 6 (09:27):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (09:27):
Supported with the offense this time around?

Speaker 10 (09:30):
Uh, you know, just just being here every weekend working,
uh gives us the best opportunity to be prepared, you know,
just going through the uh the ups and downs of
the season. You know, that's preparing us to you know,
get ready for this game. So we just got to
come put it all together and then make it happen.

Speaker 11 (09:47):
Is that kind of a theme this week with katches
and players that like putting it all together? You know
that like you haven't really played that that ay plus
game yet as a team, and that that's really what
you want to see on Saturday night.

Speaker 10 (09:59):
Yeah, Cause, like you guys said, it's a must win game,
and we don't have a lot of games where the
the defense played great and then we had a great
games where the offense played great.

Speaker 6 (10:08):
You know, special teams played great. Well.

Speaker 10 (10:10):
We would just want the whole game and be everybody
playing great.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Excious if you have to start.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
What what kind of conversation have you had with Lamar
in terms of advice things like that?

Speaker 10 (10:22):
Uh, you know, he he shoot, we just talk about
talk like we just talked football, and you know it's
no it's no pressure, you know what I'm saying, Like
we've been here before or if that's the case, and
you know, we're just getting ready, you know that.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah, the last time we talked to the more was
after the game, and he didn't see when he was
in a great deal of of of pain.

Speaker 6 (10:45):
How how is it?

Speaker 3 (10:46):
How was you know in you know, seeing him and
and talking with them, you know, how how is he
dealing with the the Dodge jury?

Speaker 6 (10:52):
Definitely?

Speaker 10 (10:52):
Uh, I don't think he had an injury like that before.
But uh I, I feel like he dealing with it
pretty good. You know, he's in there again, treatment and
everything thing and you know he's still in meetings, still
come to meetings and so he's so he's I feel
like if he's ready to play, he gonna play. So uh,
I think he know how to deal with it the best.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
Uh he know how his.

Speaker 10 (11:10):
Body feeling, and I think he gonna do a great
job with it.

Speaker 9 (11:14):
Worse.

Speaker 11 (11:14):
Taking a bunch of hits over his career, and he's
had to play through injuries, including this season. Can you
just speak to somebody's supposed to him how tough he
is and how how much and how big of a
competitor he is.

Speaker 10 (11:24):
Definitely, you know, he continued to go out there and
play at a great level every time he's on the field,
and you know that goes to show that you know,
he don't be feeling the best, but then he go
out there and give his eight game every time. So man,
I hats off to him.

Speaker 6 (11:40):
Him the game.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
He said, it's pretty rare to see a backup quarterback
come in a game and it be that seamless and
and and run that offense like that. Why do you
think for you it has been kind of a seamles
transition when you get kind of just thrown into some games.

Speaker 10 (11:56):
Man, you know, because just you know, situationally over the years,
you know, I've been thrown in there a couple of
times and just just just preparing myself during the week
where that's why I think I gained the most confidence,
you know, just trying to just down the down the
playbook and then just you know, be ready for it.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
And how would do you feel? Well, I mean, because
you know, obviously you know you might be a free
agent at the end of the year, that you see
this as an opportunity to maybe whether showing the Ravens
or other teams what you can what you can do.

Speaker 10 (12:27):
And I look at it as a blessing, you know,
to be able to just play football, you know, And
I just appreciate that, you know, being.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
Able to play football.

Speaker 10 (12:36):
And that's how I I take from the situation and
everything else to play the cards out.

Speaker 8 (12:41):
The times on from third down on Sunday night. Just
what kind of security blanket is a guy like that
for you and you those high lever re sponsors.

Speaker 10 (12:50):
Yeah, I've seen it, uh many years before. D Hot
making plays just you know, catching overdudes and everything. He
just he he he can make the play for you
when you need him to. And you know he's uh
all state, all state hands. You know, he got in
good hands. So you just throw the ball over that
he's gonna make the catch.

Speaker 6 (13:08):
That's what. Yeah, a little something for that. Nah.

Speaker 10 (13:12):
No, No, you know we get we were working towards
a win. If we if we made all the catches
that we need to do and all the throws that
we need to do in all the runs and blocks
and all that. Right, Yeah, Mary Christmas again y'all.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
That was quarterback Tyler Huntley. Next up, wide receiver, Say Flowers.

Speaker 7 (13:41):
You know, Saturday must win game. I mean you have
to win. The stay away can be eliminated for How
would you.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Describe kind of the the vibe in the locker room,
in the atmosphere for one of that game.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
Like you said, we just gotta go win it.

Speaker 12 (13:53):
So we don't want the bos to be two downs
and going to the next week with a domontality and
play with that mentality. So everybody, you just trying to
lift up everybody's spirits and get back to winning football.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
How tough is it it? Season?

Speaker 5 (14:08):
Just to your point of get you make a football
sch other really year?

Speaker 8 (14:12):
So obviously god a.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
Position you guys wanna be up to the sps? Is
it be kind of just kind of year TV all
what the uh? Definitely weird cause this is my first
time experiencing it here.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (14:24):
Uh so it's about a lot of ups and downs.
But it's the NFL. It's that's sometimes it's just how
I go.

Speaker 8 (14:30):
Is there any difference in having lamar for you the
ball to just see seem pree seems already came.

Speaker 6 (14:35):
In the second half class Nah I Nah, n not
at all. It's just we believe in our quarterbacks.

Speaker 12 (14:41):
We believe in all the quarterbacks we got and whoever
step in we did, we know they know the system
and we they they know that we gonna, they gonna
give it, they.

Speaker 6 (14:48):
All, So is it weird to go against Stripassy?

Speaker 12 (14:51):
So yeah, but I went against them, and when we
went to Green Bay last year, we had like the
joint practice and I was talking to him a little
bit that. But that's pretty funny that his defense is.
Now I'm playing against him and I was playing with
him in college.

Speaker 13 (15:07):
Did you expect, I mean, did you know when you
played for them VC.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
That he mayn't be like a potutchual?

Speaker 12 (15:12):
Absolutely absolute, because we was in some games at VC,
was in some games that we shouldn't have been in it.

Speaker 6 (15:16):
Like, if I'm getting honest, what what's pint of you're feeling?

Speaker 14 (15:21):
Though?

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Like everyone kind of wants to know.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
People are asking you think Lamar's canna play?

Speaker 14 (15:26):
You think not?

Speaker 6 (15:27):
What's kind of your you're feeling? I don't really know
how I'll lead that up to the turnings and stuff.

Speaker 12 (15:31):
So I actually I can't really answer that question if
I'm being honest.

Speaker 7 (15:34):
Whatever, because you're a couple of blockers down for didn't
know if you might have some from.

Speaker 13 (15:38):
No, I ain't got no input to make a Pro
Bowl two years ago in the conference is talented and
face just like what.

Speaker 8 (15:46):
Do you think this is shown to people like the
NFL to point office that kind of where you stack at.

Speaker 12 (15:52):
H I think just show that that I can play
the best of them, and I'm willing to do the work.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
I'm gonna put the work in and I'm gonna.

Speaker 12 (15:59):
Do everything I can to you know, win or I
just the own one is sound selfish, you know what
I mean, because all these guys help me get to
that point.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
So it's a blessing. It's all God. If I'm being honest,
it's all God.

Speaker 11 (16:13):
Is there a different feeling between your first and your
second Pro Bowl?

Speaker 14 (16:16):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (16:17):
Yeah, I was definitely happy. I know y'all seen the
video this time. I was just like after a law too.

Speaker 12 (16:22):
I was just like, I appreciate it, but I would
have had to take a win.

Speaker 6 (16:26):
I'm honest.

Speaker 15 (16:28):

Speaker 1 (16:48):
We also heard from tight end Mark Andrews.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
You know, Martin, obviously, you know you guys have to
win Saturday night to keep alive the playoff race.

Speaker 8 (16:59):
What a kind of you?

Speaker 3 (17:00):
How would you describe the mindset of this team?

Speaker 13 (17:04):
You know, so far this week been a bunch of
guys going to work, you know, focusing on this week,
controlling what we can control. That's all you can do
in life, and that's what we're doing.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
You're gonna have to say anything about the stakes and
must win and anything like that is that's something you
guys you can talk about.

Speaker 13 (17:21):
You know, the energy has been greater on here. You know,
it's a there's no quit in this in this building.
We've seen that from the start of this season, and
we're going to continue to fight. You know, uh, we
may not being total control, but we're going to control
what we what we do this game and the rest
of the year.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
I know it's still kind of up in the air
as far as starting quarterback, whether it's to the bar
or or you know, hunting. As far as Huntley, though,
what what has really impressed you the most about.

Speaker 6 (17:49):
Having That's a quick Uh.

Speaker 13 (17:51):
There's a lot of, you know, incredible things about Snoop,
But you know, I think that he runs his offensively
incredibly well. You know, he's a he's a very versable player.
You know, he gets the ball out and sees things
really well. You know, I think that, you know, one
of my best years was you know with Snoop, So
I've got a lot of chemistry with him, and you know,
just seeing him grow throughout the years, you know, it

(18:12):
has been truly special. He's a one off kind of
human being and just step a quarterback that he is,
I know he's gonna you know, continue to be the
leader that he is.

Speaker 8 (18:21):
We were just talking about it. Do you have bond
of memories or do you have good recall of the
last time did you played the backers with snoopback quarterback?

Speaker 6 (18:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (18:28):
Yeah, there was there that was that was fun, you know,
and obviously we didn't get that win. But you know,
I know he's you know, thinking about that. But you know,
for for us about you know, focusing on now, focusing
on this team and what we can control this week.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
And finally in the locker room. We heard from running
back Derrick Henry.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Obviously you know the magnitude of Saturday's game, you know, yeah,
win that to keep the playoff folks alive. What do
you feel is kind of the the attitude of the
mindset of this team right now?

Speaker 6 (19:06):
What's the attitude of myself of the team.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
You know, the it's a it's such a pressure field game.

Speaker 14 (19:10):
One time you have to go win the football game,
you know, at the pressure playing football all loss. Got're
gonna win. But we know it's at State, but we
gonna wine.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
Is that something you like? You guys know what you
have to talk about?

Speaker 6 (19:22):
You think we have to talk about? What's that state?

Speaker 5 (19:24):
That's what you know?

Speaker 14 (19:25):
We know what it is. We gotta the.

Speaker 11 (19:27):
Wind, you know how touching the ball the last five years,
I'm past that.

Speaker 6 (19:32):
I mean that's over with.

Speaker 14 (19:33):
It's it's happened all the Green Bay.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
Just what's your thoughts to kind of uh Green Bay defense?
What do you see on one film that kind of
seeing the tip out?

Speaker 6 (19:44):
Yeah, I think they are a really good defense.

Speaker 14 (19:45):
I think they're a solid uh top to bottom. They
fire to the ball, have William tacklers in the secondary,
that's really stout and you know they are uh a
good defense. I think that's why you know they've been
really good throughout this season. I know they're trying to
pipe up playoff spot too, but no on film, they
fly around to the ball make place.

Speaker 7 (20:05):
And I know the quarterback situation here is still undetermined.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
But if Tyler Huntley does make the start, what has
kind of stood out to you about him when he
has been there in their quarterback for you.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Guys so much?

Speaker 14 (20:16):
Oh, I mean he goes there, goes out like he's
the starter, practices that way and un prepares that way.

Speaker 6 (20:22):
So yeah, we go sp It's gonna roll, gonna go
out there. What we gotta do.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
