Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to the Ravens Press Pass podcast. It is Wednesday,
December seventeenth. The Ravens are preparing to face the New
England Patriots this week and today we heard from head
coach John Harball.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Okay, good to see everybody here. We appreciate you being here.
For sure, had a really good practice. We also had
a really important visitor. Joni Holyfield was here and she
runs Heart Smiles, which is a local foundation that works
with underprivileged youth in Baltimore, mentoring and other things, doing
amazing things that change lives. She's also dealing with her

(00:37):
own personal challenges that she is she is overcoming and
fighting against like a true hero, and she was at
practice today. She's our inspired change change maker for the
Baltimore Ravens. She won the award and maybe we'll get
a chance to see her out there with the players
at the practice and just full of love and joy
and Heart Smiles. That's something to support out there if

(01:01):
it's something that you want to maybe get involved with
for for Baltimore, for inner city kids. Okay, what questions
you have you mentioned with Derek May you A big.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Thing is the explosive plays, the deep pass downfield. What
do you think is kind of the key to try
to limit e patters?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Well, I mean, he just play good defense. I mean really,
you got to you gotta do fundamental things well, you know,
especially uh he'll throw the ball downfield. They'll do it
with designed play action passes. Sometimes sometimes drop back passes
that are designed, but as often as not, they'll just
throw a nine route out there against press. You gotta
defend that. And then the extended plays, you know, he'll
step up into the pocket and up and out of

(01:36):
the pocket sometimes makes him throws, but he'll also run,
so that's kind of where he's creating those plays.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
I'm just talking about defense obviously.

Speaker 6 (01:48):
Linebacker just Trent, just how have you seen him kind
of you grow over this time here? That kind of
gives you that confidence in his ability to step.

Speaker 7 (01:55):
Up in the bigger, bigger role of name there.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, I mean, Tran's played a lot of football here.
He's been playing all year. He's been playing well. I
mean I think if you watch the snaps he's been
taking on defense, you know, last month, month and a half,
whatever it's been, he's been good. He's played well. So
he'll step into that role.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
However, we organize that with the different personnel groups that
we put on the field, and I have all the
confidence in the world that he's gonna play well base
on what I've seen him. Do you know what I've
seen him doing practicing in games for the last you know,
five six, seven weeks. He's he's Yeah, it's kind of
a rest thing. I mean, the guys that are dealing with
different things from the game. Ronnie, Uh, those guys were

(02:33):
held back today. Expect those guys out there tomorrow. We'll see,
but should have those guys tomorrow. H Lamar had an illness.
He was kept home with a flu deal. The doc
kept him home today away from the guys. So that
was what happened with that. There are the questions, any

(02:53):
other questions?

Speaker 5 (02:56):
All right, good? Thanks?

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Next up, we heard from center Tyler Winderbaum.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Defensive line.

Speaker 8 (03:11):
Yeah, they brought in a big addition to off season.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
What's you from them?

Speaker 9 (03:14):
Yeah, it's a I mean, overall, the defense as a
whole is a really really hard nose group that plays
the game the right way. You no, tough, physical, everything
you know you're looking for in a defense to play for.
No obviously, the D line aspect. You know, guys play
the game the right way, and I think it's gonna
be one of the better, you know, D lines and
kind of that front seven that we go against all.

Speaker 10 (03:35):
Year's best coach in December and very cold dar to
what makes.

Speaker 11 (03:43):
Him so hard to pay a.

Speaker 9 (03:46):
Yeah, I think you no, size and speed certainly helps
and I think you know, he gets into that that
secondary h I don't know how many dbs in this league.
You don't want to tackle him, so you know, he's
just his physical presence, how plays a game, how hard
he runs, it certainly makes it. It makes it hard
all the time. But you know, certainly in these kind
of you know, weather season games, it makes it even

(04:08):
more challenging.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Regular season game. I know you guys hope there's more.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
But have you talked about how the way things are
going at home this year or some of the upside
A lot of downs like that?

Speaker 9 (04:19):
Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know someone's coming to our house.
You know, we gotta we gotta win games. We gotta
put on a show for our crowd and and end
up getting wins like how we're supposed to.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Years Raby's have been probably one of the most dominant
teams at it just hasn't gone that week. Is there
a reason why you don't think it's been this dominant
in this year?

Speaker 12 (04:39):
Is maybe a.

Speaker 9 (04:39):
Previous No, but you know the stuff in the past,
and all we can do now is just focus on
Patriots this week and and finish off the year with
a winning at home.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
The motion at the offense could be turning at a
corner based on what you guys did against Nangles and
where you play, you know, recent games.

Speaker 9 (04:56):
Yeah, I mean that's our goal end of the day.
You know, each week you know or you know, practice
have been well, you know, execution wise, and just got
to translate to uh, you know, game days and give us,
you know, our best chance to win all four quarters.
You know, we got to play our best football talent
certainly is not an issue. You know, we have all
the playmakers in the world. You know, it comes down

(05:16):
to just execution and doing our jobs and then you know,
consistently playing at a high level for four quarters. You know,
I think that's that's what we need to do, and
that's what we need to get back to doing.

Speaker 10 (05:26):
Have you ever seen Roberts as fired up as he
was after the kind of the skirmish in Cincinnati.

Speaker 9 (05:33):
Yeah, I certainly have seen him that fired up. But
on the on a game day now, they had a
nice little play, threw the guy down, clean play, no flag,
But obviously you don't want the fifteen yard penalty after
that after the fact. But you know, Ronnie plays a
game the right way. He plays hard.

Speaker 10 (05:55):
There's been some guys that get contract extensions here in
recent weeks.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
You're probably the.

Speaker 10 (05:58):
Most prominent depending agent now on the team. Is that
something on your mind. Have you had any talks with
them about it? Would you like to get a deal
done still, even though we're in season.

Speaker 9 (06:09):
Yeah, I'll let my agent, Neil handle that, and you
know my focus is on football.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
We also heard from outside linebacker Tavius Robinson. He came
back last week after dealing with a foot injury earlier
this season. He discussed the road to recovery and what
it meant to be back out there on the football
field making a big impact and the shutout victory over
the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
How did it feel getting back out there or I
don't I guess it's been like two months getting out there.
How did it feel just maybe in the first few plays.

Speaker 13 (06:46):
Yeah, I felt so good to be back out there
with the guys, honestly, and just being out there making
plays with them, seeing them make plays. You know, I
kind of said it last week, like when I was
heard it was just I would die to just play
a field goal block snap at that point. So it
was just, yeah, great to be back out there.

Speaker 11 (07:02):
That was the first game you got to play with
with Draymond Jones and Harp Harba'll talk to on Monday
about he felt like you guys played off each other
really well. Man made a nice paying come out. Well,
how did that go from your ship.

Speaker 13 (07:12):
With Yeah, I think he's a guy who just brings
the energy. He's physical, he's you know, we play kind
of similar in that way, so it was kind of
cool to just feed off of his energy, you know,
feed off of each other's energy and kind of just, yeah,
play off each other. So yeah, he's been great for sure.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Talked about the similarity.

Speaker 14 (07:28):
I mean, both of you have the ability to slide
inside and somehow how he's passing situation. How important is
that for a front, especially the position you guys are
in where you know you've talked about the scheme up pressure.

Speaker 13 (07:39):
Yeah, no, I think it's huge to be able to
do both for sure, And he's a guy who's kind
of done that his whole career, so it's been good
for me to kind of learn from him, take take
tips from him, you know, in the meeting room and
stuff like that. So yeah, it's been good for sure.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
May is one of the MVP front runners. Just whatever
seeing from him on field this.

Speaker 13 (07:54):
Week, Yeah, you know, I think he's a good quarterback.
They got a good team over there, so you know
it's gonna be on us to to contain them, and
and uh yeah, come up with a dube.

Speaker 6 (08:03):
When you think of the quarterbacks you face specifically in
the AFC this year, I mean Josh Allen Mahomes, Craik Mason,
and m VP Canada's Bay Stroud. I'm Terman, MISSISSI Guys, like,
is this kind of as stacked a group in the
conference as you can kind of remember going up against.

Speaker 13 (08:19):
Yeah, I think, you know, I think we've definitely played
against some good quarterbacks. So again, it's gonna be a
good challenge this weekend to go out there and get
it done.

Speaker 12 (08:24):
For sure.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
When you over even during your time, one of the
big things has been the domination at home. You guys,
this year home must's kind of stacked up a little bit. Uh,
have you there thing? Hey, you guys haven't talked about
maybe you know, trying to you know, ending at the
home with the with the win. Has there been an
you talk about that?

Speaker 13 (08:46):
Yeah? I think it's so important because you know, we
got the fans who come out every week and support us,
and so it's important for us to you know, go
one and know this week and it just happens to
be at home. So it's very important for us to
to do that.

Speaker 8 (08:57):
That's your reaction when it gets flexed the Sunday night
football is And does that add a little more Jason
Spade most definitely.

Speaker 13 (09:02):
I think you know, primetime game, Sunday night games are
always you know a little a little bit more energy
surrounding it. So I think for sure, Yeah, it's the
importance of a fast start when you're playing at home
to kind of set the talk.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
In the first quarter.

Speaker 13 (09:15):
Yes, yeah, so important. I think, you know, starting fast
and again just kind of having energy, you know, you know,
when your brother makes a play, go celebrate, get that
energy flowing in the crowd, you know, the team and
all that so it's it's it's very important for sure.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
Davis.

Speaker 15 (09:28):
Obviously last week a milestone for you coming back at
the milestone for the defense game of the shot. Did
you guys also feel good for Zach. We took so
much crap early in the year when when you guys
aren't playing well. I mean, he kind of gets that
signature game and in a huge game.

Speaker 13 (09:43):
I mean, Zio has been a great coach from from
day one, and I think you know, he puts us
in the positions to go out there and make plays
every every week, so it's on us to execute, h
you know what our job is. And so yeah, major
credit to Zach. He's been again a great coach from
from day one, from Shaney camp.

Speaker 8 (09:59):
So after the game that after your sack, you went
and like high hives all of the trainers that helped
you kind of get back.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
On the field.

Speaker 8 (10:08):
Can you just talk about the fans, don't I think
they don't see that stuff. They don't really know a
lot about that.

Speaker 6 (10:13):
Can you talk about the work that.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
They did with you to get your back.

Speaker 13 (10:16):
Yeah, no, that was kind of the first thing. And
we were talking about a dream I rehab, Like after
my first sack, I told Marcus I was gonna come
find him give him a big hut because he was
kind of the guy who was with me every day.
And again, so it's just a major you know, I'm
grateful for a d and the whost of the training
staff over there. You know, from day one when I
got hurt. The day after, I said, like, I'm gonna
be annoying, like I'm gonna be in here every second

(10:37):
I possibly can. So like I like, I was just
warning you guys now and they were great and just
you know that. And again, so yeah, just really grateful
for them and get me back.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
And yeah, that slide on your Instagram posts like you
kind of hobbling along. I guess how long ago after
that initiative.

Speaker 12 (10:54):
Dream was that?

Speaker 13 (10:55):
Yeah, that was that was my first time walking. So
it was two weeks after because it was no way
for two weeks and that was like my first time walking.
Yeah yeah, okay, all right, appreciate it, thank you, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (11:07):

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Matters in the locker room today, we heard from a
handful of players, including wide receiver DeAndre Hawkins, out.

Speaker 11 (11:36):
To you, and I watched the cage.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
I think you can watching its physical.

Speaker 10 (11:41):
You know they're bringing that back hard.

Speaker 16 (11:42):
You gotta see that as walking they played, they played
and that's us. You know, solid football, don't make many mistakes,
are going to go out and try to dominate you.
Uh you know that's that's what Rabel was instill. And
that's uh I think, uh the switch from last year
and this year with those guys. Uh, you know, having

(12:04):
a coach like very well out there coaching coaching you man,
you know you wanna go out and uh and uh compete,
play hard. I played with him in Tennessee, so you know,
I you know, I see why those guys are playing
the way they're playing. And uh, you know it's a
solid football.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
When you going back to up to last week, offensive
week for you guys to they feel like something to
RelA likes.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
You know, you have a sheet making his play, You
make your play, say against the deep ball.

Speaker 12 (12:27):
Then they kind of start to feel like thanks were
starting doing something.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Get on the same page.

Speaker 16 (12:31):
Uh w, we know what we're up against, So I
think everybody's tryna play their best ball.

Speaker 8 (12:36):
Sounds like you're not surprised at all that they had
to a quick turnaround under Undergreable.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
Nah, I don't.

Speaker 16 (12:42):
I don't think anybody in the NFL is really uh
surprised they had to turn around? Uh with with Mike Bradley,
he's a good coach.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
Well, you guys have kind of had the.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Backs against the ball for for a while now.

Speaker 10 (12:53):
But knowing these final three and and what more they.

Speaker 12 (12:56):
Need, does it feel any different or do you need
to attack attack this?

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Yes?

Speaker 16 (13:00):
No, you can't overthink it will go out.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
You know this is sport.

Speaker 16 (13:04):
There a lot of these these men in locker room.
We're playing since a young gay. So let's go out
play your game and trust trust your coaching, and trust
you bid.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
We also heard from tight end Mark Andrews.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
What do you see how this?

Speaker 10 (13:26):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (13:26):
This Patriots defense obviously the team has a very good art,
but specifically about that defense, what do you trying to say?

Speaker 5 (13:32):
They fight extremely hard.

Speaker 7 (13:33):
You know, there's a lot of guys that fly around,
play really good you know football, and you know, facing
a good team this week, so we've gotta be ready
to go.

Speaker 11 (13:40):
Mark, have you guys talked about trying to finish the
whole regular season, but now we don't want to winning
going up the way things.

Speaker 7 (13:45):
Have going this season talk? I mean, of course, you know,
you know you that's a's a great question. We're trying
to take it week by week. Obviously a very important
game and we're not overlooking you know that that aspect,
knowing that.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
It's you know, you basically do every game almost like
a playoff game. Does that affect for preparation the mentality
of the team going into each game?

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Energy is good?

Speaker 16 (14:03):
Man.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
It's a great day, a great day of practice, and
you know people are ready to go and extremely focused.

Speaker 8 (14:10):
You feel like the way the offense performed last week
and especially kind of down the stretch getting hot a
little bit, connect connect carry over this week? You feel it.

Speaker 7 (14:17):
I think, so this we're going to continue to build
on on what this team could do you know, being efficient,
playing great football and all those good things. And at
the end of the day, just keep on fighting and
keep on working hard.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Next we heard from safety ALOHI guilty.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
I want to thing on my mind as the Patriots.

Speaker 17 (14:43):
How important is it though as a team to carry
over performances like that. Yeah, one hundred per I mean,
I think anytime you can start performances it you know,
it builds trust, It builds that, you know, ability to
stay confident in these situations.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
So, uh, our defense is in the right direction.

Speaker 17 (15:03):
Talk about December football being not our best and s
keeps keep stacking wins and keep stacking good performances and
everything will take.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
Care of yourself.

Speaker 13 (15:11):
Yeah, he's still young.

Speaker 15 (15:12):
But what jumps out with you with May this season,
especially compared to the.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
Growth from last Yeah, I could. I think with May
he's just really calm.

Speaker 17 (15:20):
He could tell he's uh, gotten really comfortable back there,
makes good decisions. Isn't in a hurry to to make
splash plays when he doesn't need to. He just makes
the right reason. I think that's the biggest thing.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
That you can see. So he's playing really well and
you know a lot of respect for him.

Speaker 12 (15:37):
Well, what Is it about either what the Ravens have
asked you to do or sort of the change the
environment that you feel like has.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
Sort of unlocked some things his defense, but also with.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
You as a play.

Speaker 5 (15:48):
Yeah, that's a good question.

Speaker 17 (15:52):
I think for me, you know, I you know, I
was a six round pick the Chargers six years ago,
and you kind of always go through a narrative coming
into the league and kind of only a special teams player,
not this, not that you know.

Speaker 5 (16:09):
But for me, I've always found a way to.

Speaker 17 (16:12):
To be versatile, meaning I could play, you know, playing deep, playing,
playing in the.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Box, covering people.

Speaker 17 (16:20):
And for me, I think they've allowed me to be
here and just be the best version of me, so
putting me closest positions to control the back end and
just help uh make as much play as I can do.
So I think shout out to you know, the Ravens
and I'm you know, I really appreciated them for just
having faith and trust in me and not you know,

(16:40):
having to restart again. You know, they just allowed me
to come in and just be me, and that's that's
helped me a lot in the team.

Speaker 12 (16:46):
You know, I I know you got your hands full
figuring out stuff here and and trying to win games here.
But you ever kind of look back at at Chargers
and sort of see how they're doing, and I mean know,
you ever like sort of doing the mental math of
like the trade and and things like that, like what
the Ravens gave up to get.

Speaker 17 (17:03):
Your Uh not really honestly, s just cause wasn't really
my focus.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
I mean I think coming year, I just tryna embrace
the moment.

Speaker 17 (17:15):
I keep in touch with some of those guys though,
you know, I I root for them for sure, you know,
like they you know, I've spent a lot of years there.
I got a lot of great relationships with them. Uh well,
my focus has just been here, really, and how can
I be the best guy here?

Speaker 16 (17:28):
It seems like the Patriots when you're trying to press
the ball be galt with fields with the day and how.

Speaker 11 (17:34):
Big of a priority is it to to maybe try
to limit to the the deep thoughts.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
Yeah, it's definitely a priority. Anytime a team.

Speaker 17 (17:42):
Like that who can be that explosive, it's, you know,
something that we have to keep an eye out for.
But that's in any game, but specifically with them, they've
been able to execute on those on a higher level
than other teams. So for us, just being tied in
all together and on those looks and take away some
of those things, and I think if we can do
that will be in a good spot.

Speaker 15 (18:02):
You guys have kind of been backs against the wall,
must win for a while, but knowing the magnitude of
these final three and what they mean, does it feel
any different approaching this stretch?

Speaker 17 (18:12):
I think the sense the urgency is different, obviously, you know,
it's it's kind of a do or die trying kind
of situation, so for us or just kind of be
all in as if this is the game, this is
the last game of the season type of thing. So
I think everyone has that sense of urgency.

Speaker 12 (18:25):
Uh.

Speaker 17 (18:27):
And you know when you're backs against the wall, you know,
that's kind of where you play your best ball, I think,
And that's how I've kind of, you know, grew up
playing and back against the wall. I'm kind of used
to those situations anyway, so kind of the underdog mentality.

Speaker 5 (18:41):
Uh, at least for me, that's how I've been raised
and who I am. So now I love it, loveally.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
You played a bunch of probole level quarterbacks this year,
are right?

Speaker 12 (18:50):
Mm?

Speaker 6 (18:50):
Chargets to Raiders, just like, do you feel like what
you are getting somebody with Drake May.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
Kind of feels like a potential.

Speaker 7 (18:56):
Playff Maybe just the caliber of quarterbacks who would have.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
Waited in the playoffs.

Speaker 17 (19:00):
Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, he's playing on
a you know, on a high level, on an elite level.
He's a definitely taking his game to another level this
year compared to last year. And I think overall, just
as a team, they got a great team that compliment
each other, they know their role, they play really hard,
they're smart.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
So they're gonna they're gonna play off for a quarters.
So it's gonna be a good challenge for us.

Speaker 17 (19:21):
But you know, it's it's always fun when you play
against the best guys you that's kind of what you want,
you know. It's like going against you, Joe Burrow the Bengals,
like yeah, right, let's go, let's do it, you know
what I mean.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
So that's my mentality and I'm I'm excited for it.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
With the the final WHO regular season game being Sunday,
to the big disappointmance of the past couple of promotions,
does that woulda beate this team at all?

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Yeah?

Speaker 17 (19:44):
I think we kind of have mentioned that how we
gotta play better at home. And it's not a big jump.
It's just little things here and there. That's not a
question of our character or culture identity. It's just a

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
