Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Past podcast. The date is Saturday,
August sixteenth, and the Ravens just wrapped up their second
preseason game in Dallas, Texas and are flying back to
Baltimore with a dominant thirty one to thirteen victory over
the Cowboys. After the game, we heard from head coach
John Harbaugh and a number of Ravens players. So let's
(00:22):
start off with hearing how John Harbaugh felt about his
team's performance tonight at at and T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Good to see everybody here. Appreciate you being here. Shout
out to the banner for being here. Really really good performance.
Very happy with the guys, or you at the banner
the Sun. Okay, let me start over. Scratch all that.
Shout out to the banner and the Sun for being here.
You two and you're the two that should be here.
(00:57):
But thanks for being here. We appreciate it. Proud of
the guys because of the physicality and the execution. I
thought they we had a good week of practice. We
wanted to improve from one week to the next and
you could see that in the performance. And what you
want to do is you want to you want to
reap what you saw. There was a lot of good
sewing going on all week. Guys were working very hard
(01:17):
to improve, they were very intentional about what they were
trying to accomplish, and then went out there and then
let it rip on on game day. And that's what
you want to see. And I'm proud of the guys
for that. That's a great fun place to play here,
great crowd, great atmosphere, and so you know, it's a
good experience for him too. And then of course Cooper
coming back playing against his old team and winning and
(01:38):
playing great football. I thought. I thought he played great
for us UH and got us out and got us moving.
We had we had almost three hundred yards in the
first half. So that kind of performance all the guys
and led by Cooper, that was pretty very, pretty darn impressive.
So what question do you have, John, speaking of.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Rip Tyler glut five to sixth tonight, I think the
final number a couple of outside of fifty. Do you
feel comfortable with him? Is your kicker?
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I do.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
He'll be the kicker. He'll be the kicker. He's earned
it and get another chance to get back out there
next week and kick some more and keep just keep improving.
But I just appreciate the fact that he wants to
make them all. You know, so, but he had a
good night. Good night on kickoffs too, we're trying some
different kickoffs, trying to experiment a little bit with where
we're putting the ball. So that was good to see.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
And I know.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
Takeaways have been a focused for the defense.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
What do I mean to see those tonight?
Speaker 7 (02:31):
And then specifically Ruben Lowry, how would you evaluate his
game tonight?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
You know, he just tell you, Ruben comes over, he's
around the ball. You know, he's been doing that the
whole camp. You know, to get to get the turnover
on the sudden change, and to get the pick in
the end zone right away and play the ball in
a tough that was not an easy catch and he
goes back and makes that play. Showed up numerous times.
And also a number of guys that I thought, all
the young DB's really stepped up and played well. I'm
(02:57):
proud of that whole group, and you mentioned every one
of those names. Guys all played very well.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Do you have any update on DSA.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I Setdisa has a dislocated elbow, so he'll be out
for a few weeks at least. We'll see the extent
of it probably tomorrow, and that's that was his injury.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Oh, Rashine Ali you may mentioned the running game particularly
with him out, Please were you with that machine?
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Very pleased? I mean, Rashine, he was bringing it, you know,
and the old line was bringing it too, so to
see that, and our quarterbacks were making the various checks
the right way. But I just I thought he was quick, explosive,
very good vision, you know, ripped off a number of
big runs.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
John test Walker, number of catches you talked about, you
know last week, wanted to get the long airboard passing
game and so forth. With what you see out of
kind of hit the time.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, I feel like test played well. You know, I
have to watch the tape lead honestly to have a
full evaluation, you know, just watching it. You watched so
many things, but I felt like he played well from
my perspective. I just gotta watch it more. Going back
to the running game, you know, the other running backs too.
I mean those two guys came in like a week ago,
week and a half ago, and there they are out
there running the ball the way they were running, physical
(04:09):
running North had a great catch on a conversion up
the sideline. I just I think those guys deserve a
lot of credit to.
Speaker 6 (04:16):
You guys have described a job as a player was upside.
Speaker 7 (04:19):
How much of that did you see on display tonight?
Speaker 2 (04:21):
He played really well tonight, very physical. He had a
really good night from what I saw. I want to
see some more, but I thought he played well.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Mentioned the running backs. You know, usually you guys carry
three is rashins. Usually you guys carry three running backs
Rashi Gonna make that a difficult decision for you guys.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, right now the planet is to carry four, you know.
So that's where we're at right now. I mean, things
can change, obviously, but that's my plan at this point.
Of course, Eric and I talk about it every day,
so I think we're on the same page. But you
know what, we'll have to see things things, don't you know,
you're not there yet.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Does that well, that impacts you know, potential decisions at
other other positions. Obviously there's you know, there's a couple
of tight battles for some of those other other Well, if.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
We keep the four running backs, to your point, it
makes it just makes it one less guy you can
take it some other spot, and that'll be that'll be
the challenge, because you know, there's more than fifty three
guys that that would be good enough to make the team.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
I know Bo Brady has played a lot of snaps
on special teams, and we saw his defensive snaps decrease.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
And I guess what have you seen from him from
the last game in this skame Bose one of those guys.
I mean, Bo's good enough to make the team, you know,
And uh, he's right there with those decisions we're going
to have to make. But I think I would be
very comfortable and uh with Bo being out there playing
football for us, playing special teams, playing defense. He's he's
only gotten better every single day. But he's proven himself.
(05:51):
He's he plays good football when he's out there.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Just going back to the running back thing with with
Keaton Mitchell, I know we haven't seen him out there.
Is that a little bit lingering issue or something like?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, I mean he's got a little hamstring, you know,
So it's just something that those have to heal, you know,
So he's working on it. I think there's a chance
chance this week. If not this week, he'll be fine,
you know. For the opener.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I know you mentioned Cooper played well.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
I guess just over you mentioned that Cooper.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Played well today.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
I guess what did you see that led to be
through performance over.
Speaker 6 (06:26):
Some of them?
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Well, I mean, really, I thought he played well last week.
Like I said, you know, it wasn't just in his
many chances. You know, you've got to be out there
and you gotta gotta some plays and throws and things
like that. He just played a very few plays last week,
and he's been playing like this all camp. I mean,
just the way he played today is the way he's
played all camp. He's just very good, very good player,
accurate on time, runs the offense, runs the show very well.
(06:46):
I think he's a good fit, you know, with our guys,
our guys like him. You know, it's just that that
that performance is what we expected and that's what we've
seen every day.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Kean marn obviously I had that safety early. You know,
a couple other nice plays. I mean, is that just
to talk about games like this being opportunities for guys,
is that you know kind of the example A.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
That example A. I mean, he's he's I put him
in the category of those young dbs. I mean, he's
probably the next guy that had had huge plays out
there and covered well and I had the one penalty
on the ICT I think it was, but uh, covers
well and he's and again he's had the same He's
had that kind of camp pretty much all the way through.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
That was head coach John Harbought after the Ravens second
preseason game and second preseason win. Next up, you'll hear
from quarterback Cooper Rush.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Four attempts this week. I would imagine that.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
The last week.
Speaker 6 (07:47):
Yeah, it's a lot of fun to get out there,
like kind of coach said, you're get in a rhythm. Uh,
because there's any good plays and bad plays in a game.
And so when you get back out there and get
to kind of get in a rhythm play ball because
you do learning Game two, kind of feel for the defense,
things like that, and uh so you have a lot
of fun. Felt good. We got I think over fifty plays.
It's pretty sweet.
Speaker 7 (08:06):
You said that you want to prove to your team
that you're doing well. How much you feel like you
can prove tonight.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
I thought, you know, just ball control, a lot of completions,
keeping the defense off the field. We were really good
on third down, you know that type of stuff, and
then you have to make the plays when they're there.
Missed one scramble TD, but had another one there, so
bounce back after negative plays. I just like how the
guys together, you know, just kept playing ball tonight.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Yeah, obviously had a good connection with Test the night.
How much is working with him and practice been building
that chemistry, you know over the last few months.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
Yeah, has tons of potential. Man, he he can really run.
It's fun working with him. Just keep building his confidence.
Give him the ball tonight. He was he was sharp,
he was where he's supposed to be when he needed
to be, and he made the plays. He really get
their down catch you know, a couple of good ones
in zone low catch on a on a hook route
coming back to the ball. So it showed some big signs.
(09:04):
Cory Bulli has squirked his way up the depth chart.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
What was it like working with him tonight?
Speaker 6 (09:09):
Kory's fantastic. I mean that guy, he runs the show.
And you know, especially with young centers, usually with that
two group, just I tell those guys, just run the show,
you know, being a center, that's your job. And he
I mean, he's very smart, knows what's going on, getting
everyone going. I think he leads to how we kind
of played the night in rhythm running the guys are
going to the right places, things like that's that's all Corey.
(09:30):
So uh, really fun to be around, good player, ask questions.
He I mean, he's all about it.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Need more playing this well against the Cowboys.
Speaker 8 (09:38):
No, but it was.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
It was cool just to be back, you know, with
a lot of a lot of similar sight lines, you know,
throws and things like that. Was it was cool to
be back see a lot of old teammates. Like I
said before, you know, it was a good eight years.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Okay, that was QB Cooper Rush discussing the Ravens win,
his return to Dallas and more. Now you'll hear from
the Ravens rookie kicker, who had quite the homecoming performance tonight, Tyler.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
Loop, how to feel having a night like this in
front of family and friends.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
It was fun.
Speaker 7 (10:18):
It's fun to come back to Dallas and like be
in the stadium and play the Cowboys like growing up here,
that's you know, that's something that's really big. And just
being able to get in front of my family again
was really special. Yeah, it's just so fun.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
I saw the signs. You know how many people you
may have watched you here? How many tickets you had
to get her?
Speaker 7 (10:38):
Oh I'm gonna guess thirty. Yeah. Yeah, I had a
lot of people come out, and, like I said, just
super thankful, like super fun to see my family and
friends come back around and just celebrate and be here.
So it's good.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
I know you've been confident, but what does a night
like this do for your confidence?
Speaker 6 (10:58):
It just builds it.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
You know, we talked like we talk about all the time,
like the process right getting back and you know we're
trying to match good foot toball contact and swing to
our target and stay in the kick and everything. And
so it's fun to have a night like tonight, especially
where you can just go out and do that over
and over and then you know you miss when you're
able to come back right because you start back at
(11:21):
the top on your process. And so I would say
that even builds more confidence, right when you can maybe
you fall shorter your process once, but then you can
come back and just go back into that process. It
builds those repetitions and just makes you feel more confident
and comfortable. So it was really cool it was fun
to get a lot of kicks.
Speaker 8 (11:39):
I know, the goal is not that was that important
to be able to show yourself that you can.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Correct the game at that level.
Speaker 7 (11:47):
I'd say so, like it's you know, it's just one
of those things. It's you know, we got to come
earn it every day and also every rep in my position,
you know, you want to show up and just stay
in your process with your guys like Nick and Jordan
do an awesome job for me. You know, my goal
is to check off my process every time, strike the
ball well and and make kicks. But that doesn't happen
(12:10):
like my name's gonna get called again. So you know
you have to be able to step back up and
go through it again and earn it. And so it's yeah,
it's fun.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
When did you find out that you got the job?
Speaker 7 (12:20):
Oh I haven't, haven't found out yet.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Still still still still learning today.
Speaker 7 (12:29):
That's fun. But it's you know, it's fun, it's it's special,
and that's something that's uh, you know, celebrate a little
bit my my family, just you and uh, I'm just
really really excited to be in Baltimore. Like it was
one of those things just through the whole draft process
and even the last three months, I've just seen so
many things fall into place that you know, for me,
(12:52):
like faith is a big part of my life, and
just seeing how orchestrated and well things have fallen into place,
it just makes me really thankful to be here. And
I love love the staff, love my teammates, and just
being in the city of Baltimore is really fun and
so I'm I'm excited to be here for that. So
that's that's really fun. But got to earn it every
(13:12):
day still, so will be good.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
You're listening to the Ravens Press Pass podcast and you
just heard from rookie kicker Tyler Loop after his five
field goal performance in Dallas in front of his family
and friends. Next up, we have another rookie, this time
safety Ruben Lowry.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
You know, bringing the whole around to guys, ten guys
doing their job. When that play, it was it was
awesome to have that play and just to see the
guy celebrate, celebrating, which are the people you work so
hard with. That's that's the best part.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
You've been around the fall aunt, like the out training
camp all summer. You're what we see your noses seems
to kind of find the ball? How how him do uh? First?
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Foremost is just teammates first, everybody doing their job. And
then we have a sing in our defense room. It's
consistency equals production. And when we talk about that, we
talk about the little things watching film every single day
and being consistent in our work ethic, being consistent on
the field and having that letting that be productive on
the field in games and practices, and always continuing to
look to make that play. So that that's that's our model.
Consistency equals production.
Speaker 6 (14:23):
You're seeing up quarterbacks, safety inside out.
Speaker 8 (14:26):
I guess how important to you is that versatility and especially.
Speaker 7 (14:29):
Knowing or even's defense, Like, is that something that you
want to emphasize.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
It's definitely very important. It allows me to understand the
defense better and like where every everything fits in the defense.
So when I do play one position versus the other,
I understand what he's doing and I understand where my
help is that I understand so many more things. And
that's been just an emphasis from the older guys, the vets,
you know, the no more defense, know more about the
schemes so you can be a more versatile player, so
you can help out this team. This was about just
(14:54):
serving our teammates and getting better.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
How would you how would you personally evaluate your name today?
Speaker 4 (15:00):
I we have to wash the tape for sure.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
You know, with a first glance, you always think like
you can be on a very high high, you can
also be on a very low low. But I l
I like the physicality that we brought. I like the
the team effort that we had, and I liked the
way that we just went out there and whenever we
didn't make a mistake, we pushed it back and we
kept going.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
What kind of.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Confidence does performance like tonight other days during camp of
the game, et cetera? Like, what what does that do?
You're confidence with you know, what's a pretty talent TV
room and and you're trying to work your way in there.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Uh, it's it's it's a joy. It's a joy. It's
a I it was a blessing to just to be
in the moment and just to make a plan. That
moment's awesome and then you uh just do you get
again rally around the guys and you know, have my
you know, family here to enjoy that moment. That that
that's a joy you get from it. It's a very
very big blessing. And you know the confidence y again
comes from the the reps. You know, the the practices
and all that good stuff, and those moments come and go,
(15:49):
but you know, all the work you put in up
to in to that moment just increases that confidence.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Did that Steely a writer? Did you go and look
at the at the end of option on the sideline
after you made it on?
Speaker 3 (16:01):
No, No, it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
It doesn't show it in particularly, But I don't even
know what it looks like honestly still yet, but hopefully
it look cool.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
That was rookie safety Ruben Lowry talking about his interception
in the Ravens second preseason game. Now you'll hear from
running back Rashian Ali.
Speaker 8 (16:31):
Contribute to the team anyway I can, special teams, running
the ball, build whatever I can do to just have
a good part of the team.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Is that something you kind of mentioned special teams? Do
you do you take sort of extra pride in that
that as wait on the kay I can make a
difference tier as well in that area ina game.
Speaker 8 (16:47):
Oh yeah, for sure, it's all the phase. Just contributing
as much as that came game and just giving them
out back.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
I know you're a big play as the last game.
Speaker 6 (16:56):
What was your focus going from.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
That game for this game?
Speaker 8 (17:00):
My focus going from that game this game was just
being more placer, just trusting around's more. I mean, cause
football things happen, So I mean that was just my
focus is trying to set things up being more patient.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
You got the chance to run with Cory boll At
at center a lot tonight.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
I guess how's it been.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Working with that? Oh yeah, Cory my dog.
Speaker 8 (17:18):
Yeah, kry my dog. He communicate well, he real He
just let me know everything. That's what happened pre snap, honestly,
like just as far as protection, just the IDs and everything,
and even in the locker room we just talk a lot.
And that's my guy.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
He was on practice squad last year.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
Was to like to see him moving up with dumb shot.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
No, it's amazing. I was actually talking to him maybe
like two days ago, just telling him my product.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
I was, I was like, bro, where did you go
to trade on the off seas?
Speaker 8 (17:43):
You look great here just started laughing and then he
looked real good. He were looking real good.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
How Mr, how much do you think being in a
room like with the town that's in the running back
room is helping you.
Speaker 8 (17:53):
Oh, it's amazing, Just honestly, just happened just being around
the guys, just seeing different ways, like just different styles
every day and just trying to add it to my game,
cause last year was a little rocky for me just
being out and just watching and just there was a
lot of trial and tribulations for me last year. But
just learning and watching film and just being in the
room with them and just seeing how they think and
just talking to him every day. It helps out a lot.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
When did uh did when did Harpes kind of tell
you that they were you know, did you ever be
dooking as part as the running back can except you
like for fifty thirds?
Speaker 8 (18:24):
What did you not tell Oh, yeah, this is new information.
I just show up every day and just play football.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Honestly, Well, what's your reaction to you hear that?
Speaker 2 (18:31):
When you are you know?
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Cause he did confirm now it, Oh, I carry a
fourth and you be the fourth?
Speaker 8 (18:36):
So uh, I mean I feel like it was just
a testament about my hard work and the off season
and just calling in a training camp, but a new
mentality after how it was last year for me and
just just striving to get better.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
What did you focus on the off season?
Speaker 8 (18:48):
Honestly, my relationship with God. Okay, office, that's it. Yeah, Yeah,
honestly that I would say that, And I really just
cause last year, I mentally I wasn't really in the
best space place I would say, so I would just
say my relationship with guy. It made everything come easier
for me, like on the field, like because I was
striving for that relationship and it just literally made football
way easier, like tricky. Yeah, tri.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
You just heard from running back Rashen Ali. Next up
on Ravens Press Pass podcast, Wide receiver Davontes Walker answers
questions following the Ravens win over the Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
Obviously looked like you had a good connection with Coop
for the night. Can you talk about how you guys
have built that chemistry and practice.
Speaker 8 (19:40):
Yeah, it's been. It's been real good. You know him,
you know, putting this trust to me and stuff out
there every day and we just building our rapport every
day and it showed when we got out there. So
the chemistry it's built, it's been building throughout this whole.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
Count pretty much since the spring. You know, it's been
Obviously you've taken steps since last year. What did you
do in the off season and can you describe how
much more comfortable you are this year than say last
year as a rookie.
Speaker 8 (20:03):
Yeah, mostly this off season, you know, just ran the
whole route tree. You know, my training big thing just
being able to run the whole tree and get comfortable
with comfortable with that, and then getting more comfortable with
the playbook and stuff like that, and more comfortable I
got with that with the faster I can go out
there and play and stuff like that and not have
to think and stuff like that. So I feel like
that was the biggest improvement, the rout tree and the
being in the playbook.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Obviously the wide receiver room is really deep. How much
of those guys helped you, and there are any tips
in particular, any one or two guys who have helped
you most that you've been here.
Speaker 8 (20:31):
M They've helped me out a lot. They never hesitate
when I got a question or something like that, or
when I see them do something out there, I'll try
to go do the same thing they do and stuff
like that. And didn't like d Hope he when he
since he's been there, he just told me, you know,
just go out there and go out there and play.
You know, he's a guy who's done it for thirteen
years like that, So he just said, like limited thinkings,
go out there and play and then bait same way.
(20:52):
He just you know, just go out there and be
do do all you can. You know, coaches they gonna
coach you upside that, but thenday, you gotta go out
there and do it. So those those some little things
they told me helped me out with.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
Well, this one preseason game left. I guess what are
you looking to accomplish from this point on in the
preseason to get yourself ready for the regular season Right now?
Speaker 8 (21:12):
The biggest thing't probably scoring to touch down. I ain't
gotta touch down the preseason yet, so that's the biggest thing.
But just continuing, you know, the momentum I have going
on within practice and in these games and stuff like that,
that's the biggest thing.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
That was wide receiver Tesz Walker talking about his performance
in the raven second preseason game. That's it for this
episode of Raven's Press Past podcast. Don't forget to subscribe
