Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome into Ravens Press Past Podcast. The date is Monday,
November twenty fourth, and the Ravens are fresh off a
twenty three to ten win over the New York Jets.
But it's a short week of preparation before the Cincinnati
Bengals come to town for Thanksgiving football this Thursday night. Today,
we heard from head coach John Harbaugh, wide receivers Zay
(00:23):
Flowers and left tackle Ronnie Stanley. First up today on
Ravens Press Past Podcast, we have head coach John Harbaugh.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Happy thanks starving week. I'd say I'm very grateful for
you guys, and I am.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah. Good camera's on, cameras are all.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Let's be grateful for it and the opportunity to play
on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
You know, this is something that should be grateful for.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
It's really an honor to be able to play on
Thanksgiving and just to know that everybody's going to be watching.
It's a night game. Most everybody doesn't have to get
up in the morning. I guess unless you go shopping.
Do people still do Black Friday shopping?
Speaker 5 (01:06):
Shop?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Some people do, but it's just bed Look, it's bedlam. Yeah,
are you in the middle of it?
Speaker 6 (01:12):
Jeff no, I never go back, but it's just like
there's fights and people jockeying for positions really gets really fierce.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah, you live in a bubble, live in a bubble
over here.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Yeah, So we're looking forward to that and obviously a
very respected opponent.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
What question do you have that he expects Joe Burrow
to be at the start on Thursday? I mean, he
hasn't played quite a while. What kind of you know,
if he's out there, what kind of Dree Burrow do
you expect out there? Expect to see Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
You know, he's pretty well documented what kind of player
he is, and and I'm sure he's ready to go.
Speaker 7 (01:53):
What are you going to look at in terms of
preparing for him, just what you've done in the past,
because the.
Speaker 6 (01:57):
Guy has been off for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Yeah, I don't expect too much to change. I mean,
they're running around their offense wherever tweaks they have over
the last few weeks, so I'm sure they don't.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Continue to evolve. I mean it's kind of week to
week scheme wise for all the teams. They're they're gonna
stay on track, I'm sure, and what they've been doing
is pretty much what they had been doing with Joe,
so expect to see the Bengals run their offense with Joe.
Speaker 6 (02:25):
An advantage to having a familiar opponent on this short
week as opposed to someone you don't need.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
You know them well, yeah, uh, you know, even Miami
we had them earlier in the year. We knew them
pretty well because we play them pretty much every year.
But it's a division of teams, so you play them
a lot and you know them the best of all
the teams.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
You had had Emery Jones up yesterday for the first time,
and then he didn't play.
Speaker 7 (02:55):
Was he was it?
Speaker 8 (02:56):
Was there a plan to give him a look or
was a matter of just have him up if we
need him.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
I just kind of moved into that role of one
of the eight being active, and uh I was ready
to play him, uh if needed, And uh, I think
we'll see where it goes from there.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
It's done the last two weeks.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Lamar had some soreness after the game.
Speaker 9 (03:13):
How's he doing today after?
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Oh he's good, Yeah, he's good.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Any takeaways that you can share with us from just
your look at that offensive film from Sunday.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Well, there's a lot of takeaways.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
I mean and and really every aspect of what we
do is there's so many things.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
To talk about.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
It we work on and we try to just carry
forward to the next game. It's it's like we said,
you know, there's there's the big picture, you know, which
is part of it, you know, just in terms of
you know what, what what we're trying, what we're trying
to build into big picture wise, But really it's it's
really more about the next game. And then really that's
all you really think about from a coaching or player standpoint.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
It's you know, where are we.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
And what do we need to do against the opponent
we're gonna play to try to a way to play
winning football and to win the game. That's really all
we're thinking about. So the other things that get talked
about are really not something we talk about.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
We're just trying to put the best offense, defense and
special teams out there we can right now against who
we're playing, and try to find a way to play
the type of game we need to play to win
the game. That's really what we're looking to do, and
then everything around that kind of builds as you go.
So that's really the focus, and that's what we're gonna
try to do with them.
Speaker 7 (04:30):
Just go back to Henry. Is it's a situation where
you can maybe see rotation at some point or is
that something you prefer really not to do, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Think everything's on the table. We've done that before.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
We were probably one of the first teams that started
rotating lineman if you remember, that was kind of unheard of.
When did we start three four? Five years ago? We
did it a few times. So definitely not opposed to
doing that.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
It's a word on a table. Bryant from that MRI.
The consity.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, he's gonna it's gonna be a short term kind
of a deal. Potentially a short term I are three
to four week type injury.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
People didn't have to be.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Serious, right, Yeah, Yeah, it's uh, he'll be he'll have
a chance for this game.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
The last couple of years, Christmas Thanksgiving breaks between the two.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Now it's a no, it's a it's it's an honor
to play Thanksgiving or Christmas. And uh, I think I
said Christmas is my furst. I think I've said Thanksgiving
is my favorite holiday. I love Christmas and it's probably
the most important one that a Easter. But Thanksgiving is like,
you know, it's just the cooking part of it. You know,
I do the cleanup, like I said, so you don't
(05:46):
have to really buy gifts, you don't have to worry
about it, and just kind of watch football and enjoy
being around one another and eat it doesn't like eating.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
It's a great holiday.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
Thursday night after the game.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
No, you'll probably do it on Friday. Hopefully they'll be
a happy Thanksgiving.
Speaker 7 (06:08):
Turnovers forced in the last six games, obviously, I know
that's been a sort of a talking point. Are there
things you focused on in practice to kind of ramp
up it, you know, ramp up that attention to detail.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yeah, No, it's the same. We did the exact same
thing that we had been doing. I mean, we wanted them,
you know, and there's a lot of talk about them
when you're not getting them, for sure, but the emphasis
has been there from day one, and and you just
kind of believe that they're.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Going to start happening, you know.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
And I'll tell you that that play Marlin had then
for Low to be right there to make the play,
you know, we were kind of on our heels in
that drive, and he even even you know, Breese was
heading towards the end zone, you know, and he.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Got it out. So just phenomenal play with lar in the.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
In the injuries season, you know Hadden had any injured destination,
but do.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
You feel like piece of leader injuries have have they impact?
Speaker 9 (07:00):
Is playing all as?
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I can't really say. I think.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I think he's like I said, you know, I'm always
proud of him. He's playing winning football. He's working really
hard every week to be prepared and be ready to
play and doing everything he can do to win the
game and win the next game and be ready to
play winning football.
Speaker 6 (07:17):
We've asked you about some rehab guys periodically. Is disa
Isaac getting closer?
Speaker 3 (07:23):
He was, he had a little setback, so he's, uh,
he's not closer now. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
We thought he was gonna have a chance here in
the next couple of weeks and it has a setback.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Okay, set okay. Thanks.
Speaker 9 (07:38):

Speaker 1 (07:59):
That was Charba answering questions from the media about the
Ravens win over the Jets and the quick turnaround to
the Bengals game on Thursday night. Next up on Ravens
Press Pass podcast, you'll hear from wide receivers say Flowers.
Speaker 10 (08:17):
The history you guys with Cincinnati crazy games shootouts.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we should. We expect that Thursday night.
Speaker 10 (08:25):
If it comes down to it, if you have to
do that, then that's what we'll do. But I hope
it ain't like those games. I hope it's just a
nice one. We get to Joe thanks Giving after go home.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
You're not gonna face really excited that Joe Burrow is
coming back. That would be a part of the series.
Speaker 10 (08:38):
I mean, it is what it is, and I already
got nothing to say. But they got their quarterback backs,
so it won't probably won't be no more excuses you
can say.
Speaker 7 (08:48):
Deal with that.
Speaker 8 (08:49):
You get excited when you see a team it's giving
up thirty two point seven points per gameers, you're like,
or are they now finally gonna bring it?
Speaker 3 (08:55):
What do you like?
Speaker 10 (08:57):
I mean, you get excited, but every game different, every different,
So you just see that and hopefully we have a
game that we want on offense so we can get
going in the direction that we wanna go in.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
So we'll see what it brings.
Speaker 11 (09:09):
What's it like mentally being part of a shootout like that?
And do you go into a game like this thinking, alright,
you know, burrow it. They they can put up some numbers.
We're gonna have to kind of do it, do the same.
Speaker 10 (09:20):
It's crazy cause you be scoring so fast, you be
like dang, we jacking out the field. Then you back on,
then they on, then they on. So it's it just
feel you always want like you always ready to go.
So in those games, it's always fun.
Speaker 8 (09:32):
What special gut playing on Thanksgiving to you the sad
the opportunity.
Speaker 11 (09:35):
Like this.
Speaker 10 (09:37):
This I think this gonna be my first time playing
on Thanksgiving. H you can get a turkey leg after,
so that'd be a sign. Hopefully somebody get the turkey lag.
I'm'a go over there with him.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Take where you are want to talk about Lamar Jackson's health.
Speaker 7 (09:52):
Does he does he.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Does when you're out there winning, I don't know. I can't.
Speaker 10 (09:57):
I I can't really tell, Like I can't really s
So I feel like he wanna put hisself in a
bad position if he wasn't healthy, you know what I mean,
I won't. I don't think he'll jeopardize it.
Speaker 7 (10:08):
When you have Lamar, you have two time MVP out there.
Speaker 11 (10:10):
Do you feel like with the offense, like when he's
the leader of the offense, he could turn things around
really quickly.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (10:15):
Absolutely, yeah, cause he could do everything. So when you
got him out there, you don't really know what to expect.
I feel like if you on defense, cause he could
throw up run it. Then we got there, Then we
got marked the tight end, We got everybody. So it's
just I feel like put teams in a a tougher
situation on when they playing against us.
Speaker 9 (10:33):
You mentioned getting off.
Speaker 7 (10:34):
To a fast start.
Speaker 8 (10:35):
Do you think that that was maybe kind of a
challenge earlier in the season of because you have so
many weapons, how do we get everybody involved?
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (10:41):
I feel like the beginning of the season we were
starting fast. I feel like we put up a lot
of points in like the first four weeks five weeks,
and then it started to slow down a little bit,
mainly cause l was out and you know defenses. That's
just like the first four games where teams getting warmed
up to playing in the the season.
Speaker 7 (10:56):
But even like now.
Speaker 10 (10:59):
Now, I just like it's small things here and there
that we got to fix. The star fast.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
That was wide receivers Day Flowers on facing the Cincinnati
Bengals on Thursday night this week and more next you'll
hear from left tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Speaker 8 (11:19):
So the time you think Thanksgiving special, what you kind
of think about mabe a little bit more than football
this time of year. Well, at the same time, critical
football is going on right now. What do you what
do you expect on Thursday?
Speaker 5 (11:28):
Yeah, it's going to be a physical matchup. You know
always these division rivalries are always tough. So we don't
really look at the record. We know these guys play
so respecting in a physical game.
Speaker 11 (11:37):
Are you at all surprised that that for seeminglarly rushed
back to be able to face the Ravens.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
No, not at all. You know these games meet a lot,
you know, to each team, and I'm not surprised that
he came back for this game, playing.
Speaker 8 (11:50):
On Thanksgiving and home Day?
Speaker 3 (11:52):
What is it?
Speaker 8 (11:52):
I mean they've done to be poor in the past,
and the Ravens have been very good at home on Thanksgiving,
you know, to have that opportunity, is it?
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Is it expecial?
Speaker 5 (12:00):
Yeah? I mean it's very appreciative. You know, you're not
putting these games unless you're on a good team, So
it means a lot, and you know, we're very appreciative
and fortunate to be playing on you know, Thanksgiving.
Speaker 8 (12:11):
The challenge to turn around though in this you know,
short week, well, trying still trying to get the running going,
trying to get the offense back to where we were
seeing at the beginning of the season. How hard is
that on such a short week.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Yeah, it's a difficult task one the list, but both
teams have to deal with this, so yeah, we gotta still.
Speaker 11 (12:25):
Deal with it, right, You host the line dinners? Does
that mean you host Thanksgiving dinner on a different day.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Yeah, we will host like something like that during the break,
you know. So after the game, let's press do about
Emberck Jones.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
You just didn't see him practice so far.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Just his physicality, you know, the way he relentlessly he
gets after you know, so that's very important.
Speaker 11 (12:46):
In the sleep.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
That was O lineman Ronnie Stanley on Ravens Press Past Podcast.
