Speaker 1 (00:02):
You're listening to the Ravens Press Pass podcast. The Ravens
fail to the Bubble Bills forty one to forty in
the season opener. After the game, we heard from head
coach John Harbaugh.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Loss, very disappointing. We're just gonna have to regroup and
you're ready to go play a long season. We've got
sixteen games in front of us, and good football team,
tough environment. Obviously, we did many good things, but we
didn't play well at the end. Two big situations. The
fourth down play, I mean, that's kind of a play
that you don't really expect to happen. I mean, it
(00:34):
was pretty pretty lucky play, but they made it. And
between the scrambles. Josh Allen played a great game obviously,
especially at the end in the fourth quarter to make
those plays. Scramble plays, extended extended completions, and then a
couple of big pass plays. So that's it and we're disappointed,
(00:57):
but we'll be fine. Yeah, how do you how do
you just excuse me?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
You mention you have to recruit.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, we'll go back to work. We'll go back to
work like always. You know, we've been here before. This
is how the NFL works. It's a tough league. You know,
you play tough games and tough environments and hopefully you
learn from it and keep getting better. You get better
throughout the course of the season, become the team you're
gonna be. It's a long journey.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
There's been a few of these losses the two sport
leagues and fourth quarter over the last few seasons. For
this one, what's the pattern and why does he competing?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Well, you gotta make plays. I mean, you gotta make
plays on the ball. You gotta get sacks. You know,
you got to turn the ball over. They got four downs,
so you know, it's kind of hard just to play
even you know, you've got to come up with a
turnover somewhere. You got to knock the ball out, get
a stop. The fourth down stop would have been a play,
you know, but he threw it back there and they
you know, they made to play on the extended scramble.
So that's what you have to do. You have to
(01:56):
make a play and get off the field. You got
to extend stay on the field. You know, we've had
sit you relations, we have done that in the past,
but there have been too many of them. But we'll
get ready for the Browns.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Performance.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
I thought Lamar played great. John, Yeah, it's a big shift.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
So what happened late in the second quarter? You guys
ran off the field with the late field goal?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
You know how the clock ran out, clock said zero
zero zero on it. Then, yeah, I mean, I don't
need to be out there for the field goal block
plays that what you're asking. I came, I came back out.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
And how disappointing was it to allow them that?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah, oh, what happened with the play? I mean, oh oh,
and it also offensively.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Snap the ball a little early on one of those the.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Field goal, Well, you try to run the field goal
that did. The idea is to say that the time
out because you might want to use it, which we
did use a time out to uh to get lined
up because that situation, we we didn't. We run the
clock down to I think it got down about two seconds. So, uh,
that's a milk and field goal. We we practiced that
before and that's that's one of the things we do.
You can do it the other way. You can run
(03:07):
it down and call time out of one second. You
can do it that way too. We decided to do
it the other way. You know, we had six seconds.
I think, you know, it's again they just it's pretty
crazy that he got it, that they got it done.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
How disappointed it is it that those small things that
are moving so large in the game like this.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, I don't really rank it that way. You know,
it's just disappointing. But we got a game to play
next week, and that's what we'll be focused.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
On the first half with the cloud.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
No, I didn't get in this. They didn't tell me anything. Well,
I did, for I could tell. But you guys saw
probably more than I did. You probably saw the TV.
You know, you probably saw it then you see.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
It it.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Hit zero, It didn't when it looked like I guess
that's how they do it now. They didn't used to
do it that way. So, John, did you think of going.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
For it at all that fourth and three?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Didn't think about going for it? You know, you you
just fourth and three. If you don't get it, you're
p They're in field goal range, you know, So I
think party it's probably what most people would do there.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
What about John though forty twenty five, you guys just score.
Did you consider going for two there on the extra
point where Tyler missed?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
No, No, No, sixteen would have been good.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Next we heard from a quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
After computer right a game where he up like fifteen.
I'm sure you felt like you had the game in
hand and.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Then oh man, you just gotta finish the game. You know,
it's not one so zero on the cloth. You know
we found that out tonight.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Larid you have a essay on that.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Uh, fourth and thirdey free good coaches.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
There at all?
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Rough Na, I was cramping, so uh that's why I
pretty much got out the field. Cause if I wasn't,
I wouldn't everybody hill know, I would have been trying
to go four fourth.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I'm pretty you know what, Yeah, Lamark, the offensive was
sub dynamic the first half. I guess it off the tie,
what teams especially and after you have to touch that
draft fourth work or what cheams with the offense worth
the work?
Speaker 5 (05:12):
We just kept getting off the field.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
That's pretty much it.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
You know, we shoulda kept unconverting when we should have
when we you know, needed to. Obviously, she gotta do better,
you know, likea coach. Shit, we got the Browns next week,
So what money we gotta ship? Shift in the mindset,
gotta shift to the Browns yelled.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
A couple of ease. You know it was in the
fourth quark you need like two stores, Yeah, the last
a few years. Yeah, what where you had to feel
about mister pattern there?
Speaker 4 (05:38):
And then how do you feel about that person makes
that happen with your record?
Speaker 5 (05:41):
But I don't really know about the pattern part. But
all I know is when we up in the fourth quarter,
you know, like I said, the game is not over
twenty zero zero's or old o'clock. Yeah, we either gotta
keep converting on third downs or whatever, keep on points
on the board once that we could.
Speaker 8 (05:56):
R J Kin.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
I guess just Rake the Stephens all summer helped surprise.
He wasn't to see it unstruggled quite a bigger.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
I mean, you know, it's the first game of the season.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
I'm very er.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
You know, I'm gonna be surprised just cause I I
feel like our defense is the best in the league.
You know, but everything not gonna be perfect, you know,
like I said, at the beginning of the season, you
got a lot of season.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Though, why you put that in interesting context that it's
week one versus at the end of the season as
it was a master.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Ye, yeah, absolutely, you know, our difference helped him to
like twenty some points the last time. If you know,
they they got a lot of things that went there.
Weigh a lot of momentum shires happened for him, and
I feel like that's why things like that happen. You
know what shout out to him, Bills couldn't get a
great job or capitalize.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
That was marbar Bill's set that that family they can
kind of interest you.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
It got attracted. Uh so he's kind of exct with
what he felt or so.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
Uh you know, uh, he slapped y. I seen him
slap de hot, but you know I wasn't really he
slapped me s and he's saying he talking, so I
you know, I just forgot who I was for a
little bit, you know. But uh, you know, you gotta
you gotta think those situations. You know, we got security
out there, that security handle it, you know. But I
(07:03):
just let the most get let my motion get the
best of me. But hopefully it don't happen again. You know,
I learned from nothing.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
So more, will you not maybe go that close to
to the this excide that's the bus evans.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
The nah, cause I never seen our fans do that
so then nah, I I'll probably do it again. You know,
we score a touchdown, but it's not nothing against the fans, bru,
just celebrate my teammates going to touch down.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Did did Bills show anything different?
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Did did they surprising with anything?
Speaker 6 (07:30):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Defensively to scenon, Uh, you know, Bills would be the Bills.
You know they gonna disguise defense, and you know they
gonna discarise their pressures and you know, hold certain coverages
and stuff like that. So you know, I just pretty
much started those guys, and I feel like we had
a pretty good idea of what they was gonna run today,
and I feel like we capitalized.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Yeah you believe No, mar excuse me? Do you sc
that's called the boss a bower holding on to the ball? Yeah,
I means to stay slate in the game. And here
you are summing up another game where you guys and
the stakes they costs itself? League, How disappointing is it?
Speaker 7 (08:04):
At what? What do you think is that paid for?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Do you guys dip some of these games on the
ball where your clusing for or at least I.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
Mean, you know a lot of things go on in
the game, and we was it was four minutes left.
You know, our guys were tryna hold on to the
ball and tryna you know, look the fat much as
we could, you know, cause that's a great offense over
there as well.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
And things just happened, you know.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
Uh, And it's not like and then one of the
guys tried to you know, they were tryna hold on
to the balls much as they could, but he just
worked in the bills for him.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
How do your yeah business is a a you know,
a the emotional loss, and how do.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
You at least look at yeah, how do you keep
it from you know, it's having get into here and
not going to get the skill a little brit tonight game.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
Uh, probably let a linger for the night, you know,
cause we all hate losing on our two, you know,
but I feel like anybody who playing a competitive sport
gonna hate losing, you know, But probably let a linger
to night and then't forget about it, cause we're gonna
have to get rid of get prepared for the bounds
of division or you can arrival two.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
More from more right out.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
What do you have to say that the Derek after
or the bat day that also that atracial Fumbo Wait told.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Him like let that, let that go, you know, man,
like he done did enough orus you know, you scored
like what eighty yard?
Speaker 3 (09:09):
What fifty yards?
Speaker 5 (09:10):
One time, plopped another one like he was just going off.
You know, the things happened. Fortunately it just happened at
the wrong time. But I'm not gonna knock him for that,
like should ill formed in the playoffs like he know.
Speaker 7 (09:21):
So it was what it is, man, Okay, And.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
It's just something about my offload. This this crazy things
seemed to happen here with the Ravens that did. Uh.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
I feel like crazy things happened throughout the league, you know,
not just Buffalo. We have mishaps. And I feel like
every yar I've been in the league, you know, we
don't have weird things happen. Even in back in H
M M and T Bank Stadium, we don't have weird
things happen. We donet been up and something where it happened.
You know, that's part of the game. Man, I k't
playing Buffalo to the uh STADIU or nothing like that.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
We also heard from safety Kyle Hamilton That's.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Why I thought I blocked it.
Speaker 9 (09:57):
I don't know if it went under over threw my hands, but.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Uh, I I want that one back.
Speaker 9 (10:04):
Trying to come to that point.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
But it is what it is kind of uh to
us some training room at points we were told it
was a hand did shoot?
Speaker 3 (10:12):
What's what happened to? And how you can't look at
It's just some of my favorite round time came back.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Then you know these there's been a handful of these
games cause the last few seasons in the early season.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
What's the gout or they? Why do you good too?
Speaker 9 (10:28):
I don't know, I wish, I wish I knew.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Too.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (10:34):
We is kind of banging our heads on the wall
with it at this point. I mean, first and foremost
offense puts up forty points in no way that we
should be in that position as a defense.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (10:47):
We just gotta figure out to win games. I mean
we're winning them for forty five minutes. Gotta win him
for sixty minutes. So oh, new week, next week, go
get a fixed and try to be one one.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Is there anything in specific that we're doing there, like
in the fourth quarter or that exciping youth guy's issues? Uh?
And the second there?
Speaker 9 (11:08):
I oh, no, I have to watch the film. Just
too many catch tackles for eight yards, and I don't know, Uh,
that's something we just have to coach.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
On them kind of like, is it doubly annoying that
you I think I have to pass you guys still
couldn't stop them, Like what was that the first person?
Is it doubly annoying that you youth that they had
to pass to, you know, move fall down to.
Speaker 8 (11:32):
The ald then s yeah, I mean you.
Speaker 9 (11:36):
Talk about it all off season, how we struggling last
season in the beginning, and so new year, it's a
new team, and then we come out and do that
and it's like we're saying the same things or we're
saying something different when we're doing the same thing. So
I don't know if it's something mentally that we gotta
get over. It was a mental block, but like I
look up at the scoreboard when they were about to
(11:57):
kick the field goal and it says they got like
four in gre passing or something about to throw up.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
On the field.
Speaker 9 (12:01):
So it was his something we gotta get fixed. And
I know they were in a two minute mode for
pretty much most of the fourth quarter, but still like
we'd opportunity to get off the field.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Kyle I know these two losses are pretty getting the
part part. But you talk about backing your how to
get it well, d just you know, I Negus are
trying to store down on the new built this season.
That's kind of freak back.
Speaker 7 (12:20):
So all the.
Speaker 9 (12:21):
Feelings you add here in January, uh no, I mean
that was a completely different game. Just the way the
game flow went brings back memories of us doing this
multiple times in the past years.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
So I don't want the Rams to.
Speaker 9 (12:36):
Be known as a team that gets up big than
Bosa leads. So it's not who we are and we
gotta prove that to everybody else cause as of right now,
that's what we been doing in these games. So it's
it's up to us to go go back and fix that.
And I know we have the people in the room
and the building to do it. It's a matter of
getting it done. Honestly.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Two more for gout what us Oh such to those
are what was the message which we shouldna do the
bock deck.
Speaker 9 (13:01):
Week one? Obviously we wanted this one. We uh felt
like we should have won this one.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
But onto the next week, prety side.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
In the locker room, we heard from quarterback which a
year Alexander.
Speaker 8 (13:16):
Yeah, and it's week one, so we just gotta round
from it.
Speaker 6 (13:20):
Was there a point that you felt when momentum start
to turn to kind of comment you guys suddenly or
was there something that you can pinpoint?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (13:29):
Nah, it was just the duration of the game. It
was like it was a long second half for sure.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
How do you not this a game like this in
emotional and lost like this spill into.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
The next two weeks.
Speaker 8 (13:44):
You gotta reset, you know, watch the film and then
we reset and then uh get prepared for our next opponent.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
I have try. I was saying that he just felt
like the pass rush and the secondary one of them
will collected the other one wanted. Did you feel that
disconnect as well, just between the different in the defense?
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (14:02):
I mean, you know, that's just how f you know,
That's just how you know football is, man. You know,
it's a game of ups and downs. I'm not really sure.
I gotta look at the film then be able to
tell you that.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
Good appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Next we heard from running back Derrick Henry the.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Difference where it seem like for the first three quarters,
you guys were cruising in and feel like a big
rhythm and then in the fourth quard it seemed like
it would kind of a little out sync there.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
Well, first of all, I mean, I gotta take care
of the ball. Tell my teammates at the game, put
the ass on me. I own it like a man,
you know, been beside taking care of the ball since
we since we got back. That's a big inst especially
and I remember running back taking care of the football,
keep it high and tight and got like a like
of days ago, and when they made it play. But
ye know, I mean I put out put the loss
on me, and if when I take care of the
(14:53):
ball for like, but be a different situation. But as
far as offense, we just gotta execute it. We we
didn't do as well you know at the end. So
we just gotta look at the film and correct it.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Here where do you.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Prevent this these games, this type up loss from the
correct since it happened, so.
Speaker 7 (15:10):
Those self inflict the wounds taking care of the football,
you know, But like I said, after that, put that
on me, or he gives you know, team like Daddy
chance to you know, get the momentum and flip the game.
Then you know, you get yourself in the bad spot.
I don't put the team in the basket spot like
by not taking care of the ball. Obviously, it's only
a week one, wat.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
A long way ago.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
Or how do you prevent this kW you know, carrying.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
Into other games or three two or whatever.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
I think we just go back and watch the film,
make the corrections. You know, this one definitely gonna sting,
gonna sting for a while, or you know it's you
say it's it's it's a week one, still one. We
we should have won, but it's over now. Just focus
on getting better. Emphasizes all the things we need to
work on and go to work and look forward to
(15:59):
the next one.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
