Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Pass podcast. The Ravens took
down Cincinnati Bengals twenty four to nothing on Sunday to
improve to seven and seven on the season. This was
a must win game for the Ravens as they try
to get themselves back to the playoff race, and after
the game, we had a chance to hear from head
coach John Horball.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Just really the guys said it been really proud of
these guys.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
I'm really proud of the effort and the way they
stick together and the way they played together. It was
our best football game in the year, complimentary football, all
three phases, coming off our best week of practice, and.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
We've had good weeks of practice.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
We've had really good weeks of practice, very intentional weeks
of practice, and this was another level. And at this
point in time, to see that that really was what
is impressive about these guys. And I told him I'm
so proud of them for that reason. So a great win.
And appreciate questions, Jeb, when your.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Defense pitchers to shut out like that, when you're watching
that defense stood out.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
He.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Probably, uh, I just think the poison Marlin made a
good point in the break before the game, he said,
he said, make it about the next play. He said,
when you're a defensive back, you have to play that way.
You know, you got to have a short memory, and
then you want he kind of implored the whole team
to make make it about the next play. And I thought,
I thought we did that. And if you look at
our offense, I feel like our offense did that. You know,
(01:23):
our offense first quarter we were you know, just trying
to find our way a little bit, you know, and
you got to be patient. You don't want to you
don't want to be impatient do something that's going to
hurt your team. And and they didn't. They were patient,
you know, be patient. It was the that was diverse
from James five to seven. Be patient, therefore, brethren until
the coming of the Lord. And uh, you know, I
think it applied to the game. You know, certain patients
(01:43):
that we played with and kept playing winning football, and
uh that's that it paid off for us.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
The interception by Kyle man nois did they hand off
to a lowdi was at all influenced by ed you talking.
Speaker 6 (01:55):
To the team.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well, you know, I told Kyle, I said, we used
to have this list around here. You know only Ed
was on the list. There was a few other players
on the list on defense, but not many. It was
the list when I got here. They already had Rex
had that instilled in the guys. And you know, if
you weren't on the list, you couldn't pitch the ball,
you know. So I told Kyle when it came off
the field that he was now officially on the list.
Speaker 7 (02:15):
Oh, John, you mentioned your patients over this season, Zach
were staking a lot of the defense, a lot of criticisms.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
But you maintained these guys to who will be better?
Speaker 8 (02:25):
Is today the type of example that shows I don't
want to use more validation, but sort of what you
were anticipate.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
They would happen.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Sure, I mean, yes, probably probably so. And then even
with that, I feel like we've been playing really good
defense for many number of weeks. We played good defense
last week, we played good defense the week before. But
coming up with those plays is a difference maker. When
you come up with those plays that that's what creates
a performance like this, you know, and the guys did that.
(02:51):
Zach has been great, the coaches have been great. I
think they had a really good coverage plan. Joe Burrow
is the best that you're ever gonna see in terms
of dissecting coverages and knowing where to go with the ball.
And I thought we did a really good job in
the back end of disguising and then even when he
made his completion, showing up and making tackles and not
giving him anything deep down the field. So hats off
to Zach the whole staff. They've done a great job
(03:12):
all year.
Speaker 9 (03:13):
John John that.
Speaker 10 (03:14):
Interception and that you you know, don't know what joe
Bert was thinking, but do you.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Think there is the last one to Kyle.
Speaker 10 (03:21):
Were just like the heyblative effects of hitting the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Oh yeah, leading to a play like I when rehearst
to someone who's waiting for the ball.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Definitely, definitely a great point. I mean, you know t
Rob got that pressure right, I mean t Robs there's
a lot of credit. He had a couple two or
three pressures out there, I think, and was just running
around making plays, very physical come back like that after
first game back and to make a difference. But I
do believe that the pressure is what causes the opportunity
for turnovers.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
You're right on the.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Offense, Marge said, Uh, guys, have really weak practice. Agree
with that, but it's so what what was just about it?
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Well, I mean guys were sharp. It was it was
our best week practice all the way around. Like I said,
we've had really good practices. I mean the offense has
had really good practices too, and then you know, sometimes
it doesn't translate to the game. It translated to the game,
and I do think it translated in the way from
the patient standpoint, like our guys shouldn't get rattled, you know,
I think they that we knew we had some plays,
you know, kind of up our sleeve. Lamar did a
(04:18):
great job, like the touchdown pass to Ali, you know
that was Lamar check all the way. You know, Lamar
got us to that play, pulled it out of the
game plan right at the right time, and made it happen.
To me, that's you know, a function of preparation.
Speaker 11 (04:31):
John, I guess on his other touchdown pass, you know
that capped off like a pretty impressive end of half sequence.
How critical was was that to good points there? And
just could you kind of continue your thoughts on how
Lamar was.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, it was a critical and we
I think we got a big sack, got him, backed up,
got him stopped, got the ball back on the touch back,
and then went down the field in about forty five
seconds or so. And Lamar made huge plays. I mean
Z eight Flowers comes up with a massive catch, Lamar
makes a great throw, and then Lamar's poisoned the pocket.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You know one thing about Lamar.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Uh, he he will take some sacks sometimes, you know.
But I also think it's a function of of Lamar
has a pretty good feel for the fact that he
can also make some plays. And so he held the
ball in there a couple of times a little longer
than maybe he's gonna make you comfortable, and yet found
receivers and then one time got out and scrambled also.
So uh, it still comes back to Lamar. I mean
he's playing, he played great. Uh, He's been preparing well,
(05:22):
he's been working hard.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yeah, he said he felt better, you know, as you
guys you know, asked him about during the week.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
He as, he reminded you. And so it was good.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
I guess Teddy Ronnie stand league musa.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Uh, Ronnie looks fine, Ousia. We're gonna know more tomorrow.
And he got caught up in that netting down there
on the end zone somehow with his foot or something,
and uh, Teddy will know tomorrow, but I don't think
it looks good. Uh initially, we'll have to confirm that tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
John, how much were you splaying with Lamar's not one
to play.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Uh, well, I'm I knew he was gonna get there,
you know, and I knew the plane wasn't gonna leave.
Speaker 8 (06:04):
We did have a.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Dilemma that because the weather was coming in, there wasn't
there was a problem like if we if we didn't
get into a certain time, we were gonna have to
go to Louisville and bus up, you know. So you know,
you had to make a decision, you know, are we
gonna bust from Louisville and put Lamar on a plane.
But it wasn't just Lamar. It was also like four
guys who we told him Trump, President Trump is coming
(06:25):
to Baltimore. Secret Service is gonna close down the city
and they're not going to ye out. You gotta leave
by one. We told him, Well, you know, they thought
that they knew better, and they left like one fifteen,
and next thing, you know, we got four guys, you know,
trapped in the city by the secret service. So you
know that's.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Not even the markets what not.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Not even Lamar Jaison get get through.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
But did it seem like, though I know Lamar City stuff,
did it seem like Lamar was more likely than Lamar
out there?
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I think Lamar has been playing now, I'm not gonna
ever say I think Lamar competes every single week. Is
everything he's got. You know, it's a long season, and
he fights and and plays ball. So I love the
way he's been playing. I love the way he played
this game, and it was It was great to see
him and the rest of the guys too. The old line
deserves a ton of credit. The running backs were running hard,
both backs, I mean Ali too, all three backs, receivers
(07:17):
making plays. I mean early in the game, Lamar, they
get a blitz, Lamar dots hop Dot takes off and
runs for thirty five yards, right, I mean it was great.
I don't know what he was doing there at the end,
but it worked so and just everybody contributing that way.
Mark had to two huge catches and the one drive
you're talking about had a huge catch.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
John, do you feel like that touchdown late in the
first half was the momentum changed too, because early in
the drive, Turner had his hands on an interception.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
And there corrupted.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yeah, I think that drive was a big drive. I
mean to get down there and get the seven points.
Take it the fourteen two score game going into halftime.
It was a huge drive.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
John Gott.
Speaker 10 (07:55):
It's just the physicality of the game, Like Gus, you
guys averaged a huge amount of yards were carried. The
defensive is hitting playing for the edge, just like is
there something about that this time the season where you
can kind of leave you Monty get They have a coality.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
That you guys have to play with that.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
I mean, it's our that is our identity, you know,
and we have been playing that way. We've been playing
with physicality. To see it, uh you know, kind of
coming together with uh th some fruits for our labor
and you know, it was really good to see today.
But yeah, that that's a that's a big part of
December football. Alright, thanks, thanks everybody.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Next up, we heard from quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 12 (08:35):
Uh I say we got better. Yeah, we definitely got better.
You just gotta keep going starts in practice. Why do
you think you're were you able to find when you
really want fensive bree today. You know, play those guys
two weeks ago. They did some great things. But like
I said, you know, if I feel like if the
(08:57):
turnover was didn't happen, all of those turnovers.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Didn't happen, we would have a chance and turn 'em
all over one time. Today we had a.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Chance, Lamar.
Speaker 11 (09:04):
Can you describe through your eyes the end of half sequence? Uh,
it just seemed like everything kind of went right there
for you guys to put up a touchdown before that time.
Speaker 12 (09:12):
Uh that just film study, you know, and they're all
us working together. We watch film, Uh pay attention to
know what those guys doing, and Uh one.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Car de great. Uh had uh two many drill and
just fired off.
Speaker 11 (09:24):
What what do it mean to get Za into the
uh into the end zone? Yeah, considering what he's been
through this season.
Speaker 12 (09:30):
Uh, it's great, man, it's great. We gotta find a
inenzone some more.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
What do you do start at pass to to machine?
It look like we made you check out of a
play and they obviously flits.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Through when you're able to find it. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (09:43):
Uh, like I said, I started watching film, Uh see
what those guys do, and I just made a check
out the line and she.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Just did the rest.
Speaker 10 (09:53):
Lamar wore the conditions like and you saw you wearing gloves.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
How many times have you done that in the NFL?
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I think it was cool. The condition was cold. It
was too cold. I I don't know what.
Speaker 12 (10:05):
This is my coldest game I've played in, but it's
probably left there, no b Yeah, I think I wore
love in Buffalo, like twenty nineteen. I wore one on
my uh non thrown hand, my left hand, and uh,
I just did it, you know, just to try to
keep my hand woman as I could, you know, before the.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Game and practice, I was thrown with two gloves.
Speaker 12 (10:22):
But in the game I didn't wanna have too much
grip on the ball and Gods opened it.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I don't wanna miss that. But Mar, what can you
say about the defense would performers? They held the angles
to no point? Man a defense field like that's up
man holding up?
Speaker 10 (10:36):
Uh Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
I feel like a high power offense man with Joe Burrow.
Speaker 12 (10:39):
I could have had Joe out there. Man, it's uh
Joe Flacco out there. It's a high power offense man.
Got Jamar Chase and uh Chase Brown, those guys or
Lenda Brown at tackle those guys. For them to stop
those guys and for those guys not to have no
points on the board, that's tremendous.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Man. Hats off top defense.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
You gets had a bunch of trump players something we
hadn't really seen a a ton of issue or in service.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
You see a lot of them pass.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Did that sort of starts to feel like you go
all over in some way?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (11:04):
Start, Yeah, I I believe all of us on offense
had the rhythm. It felt like us and we just
had to keep pushing the envelope, you know, just keep
getting first downs, stay out of get back on track,
you know, cause s it's hard to convert uh in
the NFL, you know, trying to get back on track.
So we stayed out of those situations, but uh get
got positive yards and stayed ahead of the sticks.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
And lor do you think you kind of wore on
'em a little bit when you.
Speaker 13 (11:28):
Came out your first run of twenty nine Uh second
rose twenty four yards?
Speaker 6 (11:32):
Do you think that third quarter.
Speaker 10 (11:33):
You kind of to control the games your running game.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (11:35):
Uh, Officer lind blocking their tele off and uh running
backs to run the ball. Derrick Henry, Uh keep mentioning
those guys running ball hard.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (11:41):
I I believe n no defense when to hit people
in the cold, you know, that's it probably all the
body aches or something.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
So I believe they got warned down a little bit fromorrow.
I know you guys are trying to strive to get
into the playoffs. Do you feel like today you're with
your performance out there?
Speaker 11 (11:56):
Did you feel like you guys played like a playoff
team out there?
Speaker 2 (11:59):
I say, would play better?
Speaker 12 (12:01):
You know, defense definitely did, But I I feel like
I don't think we was on the field that much though,
Like you know, uh weren't score seventeen points on offense.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Our defense scored one. Uh, but I don't think we
was out there as much.
Speaker 12 (12:12):
But if we gonna be out there much in a
playoff game, I feel like we gotta take advantage of
every opportunity. But defense did great offense. It hats out
to everybody, but I feel like we get.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Still do more.
Speaker 10 (12:22):
M Yeah, or could you tell in practice that this
defense was playing maybe a s sour taste its mouth
after if that lost to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 12 (12:29):
Uh, our defense always has a nastitation in their mouth,
you know.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Uh, teams like the when they playing against the Ravers defense.
Speaker 12 (12:36):
Our offense, you know, teams like could play their best,
you know, and our defense is known for just being dominant.
So losing two games in the road to the division teams,
I feel like that's just the all of us are
the nassatists.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
But like I said, shout out to our defense, cause
they play amazing.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Are you starting to feeling better physically just than you
ever saw some of the scrambles.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
And fronts today?
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Is Is that just kind of coming around to the
almost girl it self in that way?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, I believe.
Speaker 12 (13:00):
I told you guys early on in the week I
was feeling better, you know, like Thursday. Uh, but I
guess you guys have to see it to believe it's
gonna be.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
I started to feel better.
Speaker 10 (13:09):
What from market did you take an because of the
handstring injury? You had it earlier to see her in
the cold and the risk of the injury. Do you
have to be extra you know, judicious or cautious of
that kind of be interacting how outside there?
Speaker 13 (13:21):
H Nah?
Speaker 12 (13:21):
You know, I'm I'm trying to win enemy as possible,
so not that like I told you guys before, I'm
gonna try to go you know.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
But if I can't. I can't, you know, And I
was able to go. So that's what I did. Took
advantage of every opportunity.
Speaker 11 (13:34):
Labart given how the last two weeks senday, it kind
of just felt str like stressful, and you know the
post game scene. Uh, throughout today's game, anytime the visitor's
sideline was showing, it seemed like there was.
Speaker 14 (13:43):
So much UH energy.
Speaker 11 (13:45):
I I guess, could you speak to them on a
fund of performance like that? Could could give you guys
to you know, maybe go.
Speaker 10 (13:51):
On a run here over the last three weeks.
Speaker 12 (13:53):
UH, like I I I believe I said this early,
you know. Uh, I started in practice. We had a
good one of the best weeks we done pack this season.
UH had good meetings, got in a little later than usual.
I feel like every time I've been late, we don't
have good games.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I was linked to the airport.
Speaker 12 (14:10):
I got more, I got, I got no it's all
gonna start with that. So I felt like, you know,
when I was leading to the airport, I happened to
make this just so. When I was linked to the airport,
I felt like it was gonna be a good game.
I didn't want to tell them that cats out.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Of the badaf probably fifteen minutes, but that's late later
the way.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, traffic down, Yeah, Mia Martin's the one we probably.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I know.
Speaker 12 (14:45):
I felt like we was gonna be popping out of
our skin, you know, all phases because we had a
great who eating this woman.
Speaker 8 (14:50):
Football fans know that traditions matter. They're what inspire us
to make or myself in Tostedo's the traditional way, starting
with whole corn kernels, no artificial flavors, colors or preserve
Ittive's all to give you that perfect crunch. Discover your
next tradition this football season. Head to the store, grab
your Tostitos team bag and scan the code for a
chance to score an epic experience with the Baltimore Ravens.
Tostitos tradition matters.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
It was impressive day for the defense. They held the
Bengals to a shutout, also scored a touchdown on their own,
but on a interception by Kyle van Noy returned for
a touchdown when he pitched it to a low Hi Gilman.
After the game, Gilman talked about that play and the
significance of this win.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
So when you see the interception by many.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
How surprised were you when the ball gets extended.
Speaker 8 (15:37):
Out to.
Speaker 14 (15:39):
I mean I was a surprised at all. Shout out
to kylevon Noy, great play, great player. I was actually
yelling at him to pitch the ball after he caught it.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
So it worked out.
Speaker 14 (15:50):
You know, Saved has some hamstrings for him, you know,
and put it on me.
Speaker 6 (15:53):
So shout out to Covin it was a great play.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Shout out to the defense.
Speaker 11 (15:56):
Well, Joe Burrow hasn't had a game where he's resulted
in zero points or have been shut out since college. Uh,
just you're proud of of a defense and zech or
or you guys that are you know after that performs.
Speaker 14 (16:08):
Yeah, a hundred percent.
Speaker 7 (16:09):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Anytime we do that in the NFL, it's it's hard
to do.
Speaker 14 (16:12):
You got a lot of respect for the guys on
the other side of the field, Joe Burrow and Cincinnati
obviously a great offense, so you got a lot of
respect for it. It's not easy to come by, so
you got to enjoy it. Shout out to the coaching
staff of preparing us the right way and never we're
just coming in together, buying in playing after play, in
after play, you know, just buying in finding little ways
to get better December football. That's what we preached about,
(16:34):
you know, how can we get better in December and
be the best, be at our peak. Everything we did
in the past is what it is, but want to
be at our best in December, and we took the
right stuff today.
Speaker 13 (16:42):
Alloy, Do you think this was one of the best
weeks of practice and how did that look.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
For you guys?
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (16:48):
I think I think, yeah, I think we had a
little bit more just intentionality when it came to like
what we got to do better looking at the past
couple of games, different phases, situational ball h where we
can have a little extra communication and just be a
little bit more on top of it.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
And we did that today.
Speaker 14 (17:05):
We made sure we're on it and those situations and
it paid off.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Uh uh Hello, Yeah, you know.
Speaker 10 (17:10):
There was a a clip that went that surface before
the game of kylet Hamilton talking to you guys and
he said, you know, if we beat them.
Speaker 9 (17:17):
Their season's over.
Speaker 10 (17:19):
Is that kind of energy like different, like less about
us and more about them, just focusing on like kind
of an ftu of energy for a better term.
Speaker 14 (17:29):
I think that's a competitive part of it from the
DB's but I think it's always about us. It's never
been about them. But as a competitors, I think we're
pissed off we lost to them the first time.
Speaker 6 (17:40):
I'm not gonna lie. So that's kind of where that
came from.
Speaker 14 (17:42):
But in the end of the day, it's about us.
It's about ours, but our defense is about our team.
But you know, it was good to go out there
and just put that on tape and.
Speaker 6 (17:51):
Let everyone know that ready to roll.
Speaker 10 (17:53):
When you see the pass rush Tripp and Joe Burrow
and Yavato line, I mean, what kind of goes through
your mind?
Speaker 14 (17:57):
Yeah, I mean it's, uh, you know, we got we
got to show the back. Obviously, we got great Russians
up front, Russian coverage coming together, they put together a
good plan for us to go out and execute. We
knew we had to do it together, so that that
was kind of the emphasis, where we can get these
guys home, Let's get a little bit more sticky in
our coverage, get these guys an opportunity, and then you know,
as it all came unfolds, we just just let it
(18:19):
rip from there.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Well, he and Kyle played together in all ways. Yeah,
you've got some snaps together. You think that trust level
helps on a play.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Like Nah, I mean a hundred percent.
Speaker 14 (18:31):
You know, I got some previous relationship with him, played
some good ball with him, and kind of just picking
his brain in the past. I was a young guy
and just you know, talking to him. He's obviously been
to a couple of Super Bowls and you know, has
a lot of knowledge. So I'm I'm one of those guys.
I'm willing to, you know, soak up as much knowledge
as I can. And I feel like when I was
in LA with him for a year that kind of
was the case. So I definitely think it translated. But
(18:53):
you know, Kyle, you know, has a lot of knowledge
of playing this game with the right way, giving us
little tips. He's a great leader, So I definitely think
you're paid off.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Next up, we heard from outside linebacker Draymont Jumps.
Speaker 9 (19:12):
Dreight.
Speaker 11 (19:12):
I think three or four s four sacks for the
defense after just waning over the past two weeks.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Just, uh, how proud of a performance like that?
Speaker 15 (19:19):
Do you guys feel it?
Speaker 14 (19:20):
As a unit?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Super proud?
Speaker 16 (19:22):
I mean every lineman in there, d lineman here and
ear smiling, cause uh we we worked so hard, we
preppered all the time, and then you know, Verginal the
co pastor is the thing we focus on each and
every day. So it's good when everything comes into like
foulition like that pretty much.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
Did you for like their terms?
Speaker 2 (19:39):
You sense the defensive exper basin all coming.
Speaker 16 (19:42):
Into this game hundred percent because of you know, k
kind of how things went down on the Things giving game.
You know, we lost to to them. We felt like
we should have did what we did today, So I
mean we had.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
That hunger, we had that passion.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
We I think we let it show today.
Speaker 10 (19:56):
Dream of what happened with that, I guess seems like things.
I'm a little bit heated between you and the Bangles
late in the first half.
Speaker 16 (20:04):
I mean, you know, I go, you know, they feelings
get hurt or they get deturbing cause something happened cause
you know I I touched their quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
So they get all chippy and stuff like that. But
I'm not worried about that.
Speaker 16 (20:14):
They they gonna talk, everybody's gonna talk, but it's about
can you finish the game and and play the right
way with their teammates.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
That's what's really about you.
Speaker 11 (20:21):
As you maintained like that zero throughout the game. Can
you kind of describe like what the energy level is
on on the sideline knowing that you know they're still
a zero points and we just kind of wanna pull
that together through.
Speaker 16 (20:31):
I mean, I I I we didn't really discuss the
fact like they have zero points, that's keep. I think
we just wanted to attack. We we knew we had them
on their heels, you know, just about how they were
calling it, how they loved.
Speaker 9 (20:40):
Their demeanor and it did we didn't.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
They didn't feel lively to me, And I feel like
we just wanted to attack 'em.
Speaker 9 (20:45):
I love we did that sort great about when did
you send that early in the game?
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Uh yeah, I'm I I felt that play one that
they wouldn't ready to play. It was too cold for them,
pretty much like to the the Chippy just and all that.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
If like, do you think that had it?
Speaker 4 (20:59):
In some ways you guys have been missing. That's the
defense in the fest. Some of that be whether it's
be pissed off edge or yeah.
Speaker 16 (21:07):
I think to play defense you need to have a
little bit of of a edge and just sometimes you know,
you need to talk and you get a little extra push,
but nothing to to the point where it's it's gonna
cause a penalty obviously, you know be but you have
to have that that firing you to play defense. I
think it's it. It coincides with us giving up to
(21:27):
your points.
Speaker 10 (21:29):
Dreamland. I you have five quarter that hits today, just
w I guess what do you think worked for you?
And maybe how did the arrival of Tavius Trobinson, you know,
kind of help you guys with what.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
You wanna do situationally?
Speaker 16 (21:41):
I mean I get five QB hits cause we got
guys who all can rush and I can rush myself.
And I mean I I W I W I study
my tail off for this week just because I wasn't
happy about how I play past game, you know, so
I think how how I study it translated the game.
But I don't do it alone. I don't do it
without t rob Mike, KB job or I mean, they
(22:06):
all got to do their part, so I can do
my part too.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
In the locker room, we heard from a handful of players,
including cornerback while Humphrey.
Speaker 15 (22:19):
Look at what we do when we're all on the
same page. There's not many times that we're all on
the same page when we get beat as a whole,
and when you look at that, it's it's it's really not.
And I thought today there was there were some things,
but when we played physical kind of how we did things,
the ball sims bounce our way.
Speaker 6 (22:36):
So what was it say to be Joe Burrow just
doesn't get shut out? What does it say about this
defense to do that?
Speaker 9 (22:42):
Yeah, that's major.
Speaker 15 (22:43):
I think I did not realize he's never been he
has never been shut out.
Speaker 9 (22:47):
It's definitely pretty hard to shut them out.
Speaker 15 (22:49):
I know they had they were tea less, but still, nonetheless,
it's a it's a really big conference with to to
shut out a quarterback and a receiver of that kind
of stature.
Speaker 9 (22:58):
So that was a it was a major ac commisation
for us.
Speaker 15 (23:01):
Uh hopefull little get us some momentum going in the
next week.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
And you've taken part of a lot of practice weeks.
Speaker 10 (23:06):
Did this one stand out for its physicality even you
know of previous ones?
Speaker 15 (23:13):
I would say so, I know for me, uh, one
player almost I basically left my feet almost dope on
the ground.
Speaker 16 (23:19):
It was.
Speaker 9 (23:20):
It was just.
Speaker 15 (23:20):
Very it was it was a really good week of practice.
I you know, the message you know, hey, we gotta
practice well, we gotta practice well. But I feel like
guys really took it to heart and it and it
kind of did get a little contagious. Like you walk
in the locker room, people are talking about you, j
you had game reps in practice, which is, you know,
it's concerning you don't wanna go too hard in practice
(23:41):
where you getting hurt. But bodies were kind of a
lot of places this week during practice. I thought eighty
coming back, he he sh, he brought some juice in practice.
Speaker 9 (23:49):
He was all over the place.
Speaker 15 (23:51):
So practice doesn't make perfect and uh, if anything proves that,
it was definitely this week.
Speaker 9 (23:56):
That point about being physical, was that a talking point?
Speaker 6 (24:00):
One?
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Number two is that's something like there's a level of
physicality to your point about practice one you guys haven't
had in a few weeks in.
Speaker 9 (24:09):
Practice, I think.
Speaker 15 (24:12):
I I think there had There hasn't physicality and we
haven't practiced bad all week. But there's a lot of
players where it's like, you know, the in a game,
I would make that, And I felt like in practice,
you know, obviously, when you say that, you usually have
to go to the ground or really be And I
felt this week, it was kind of some situations where
it was like, I'm gonna make this play at all costs.
I'm not gonna just say I'll make that in the game,
(24:32):
or I'll jump on this guy's back, and obviously you
don't wanna do that. But this week of practice, it
it kind of seemed like that seemed to happen a
little more then not even when someone catches the ball,
you used to get an aggressive punch, things you don't
really don't always wanna do. But this week, from from
from my eyes, from what I saw, there was a
lot of physicality, finishing at the pall, finishing at the ball,
(24:54):
no matter what the circumstance.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Absolutely, two straight division games at home.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
Did you feel like this team came into the sea
feeling back? Facts were a little been a good for wall?
Speaker 15 (25:03):
Oh yeah, for sure. I think once it's you know,
it's the message has been clear. You know, it's it's
kind of win or or die trying and back against
the wall. You know, some people look at as a
bad thing. I think we're kind of looking at as
a good thing. Is you know, you just gotta do it,
are you or you don't? There's no more talking and
we we did well, so we we just gotta kind
(25:24):
of enjoy this one a little bit and then keep
the momentum going.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
You guys, you guys had for the game with.
Speaker 10 (25:28):
Kyle Hamlinson talking to you guys and say, you know,
we beat them, their fleeping season is over. Was there
kind of a pissed off energy coming into this game.
Speaker 15 (25:39):
I don't know if we were necessarily you know, pissed
off at you know this, that and the third, but
we we definitely didn't like losing two AFC games or
at the bat, and we just feel like we haven't
you know, played to the standard. You know, Ed Reed
comes in on Friday. Honestly, that might have been while
we practice our Friday as well. I forgot about that.
(26:02):
That kind of did money he you know, he add
is Uh, he's very unfiltered, uh when he talks. So
I actually did forget about that. I think that had
a lot to do with some things. But we're gonna
Keep're gonna keep that momn him going. As far as
practicing like that, if you gotta be soiler one day,
that's alright, But we gotta practice exactly how.
Speaker 9 (26:22):
We're gonna play. And uh, that's that's what we gotta
do for the rest of the year.
Speaker 15 (26:28):
It's crazy, cause Harve's is not like the lateral stuff
that Kyle does all the time. In practice, it's usually
very unsuccessful, but this time was more of a handoff
and it worked off well. So that was that was
Harvey's gonna have to It's gonna be I don't know,
he's he's he's I think he'll like that one.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
So that's good. What did it uh say to you
guys in practice?
Speaker 5 (26:47):
What?
Speaker 6 (26:47):
Who? What did that say to you guys in practice?
Speaker 15 (26:50):
So he actually he ended up speaking to us like
three times, cause talk to the dbs. And then zach
Or saw he was talking DB's and got the whole
defense and then we but it was uh, camaraderie, what
you put in your body, practicing, trusting your brother. Get
this junk food out of the meetings and stop junk food.
I'm very upset about the junk food. So uh uh
(27:11):
we uh hopefully gods took at the heart ate a
little little healthier.
Speaker 9 (27:15):
But I it's always great here from a Raven's legend.
Speaker 15 (27:19):
Uh it it's a it's it's a blessing to those
guys wanna come come back. Uh, and I hope they
know that they're so much appreciated and we.
Speaker 9 (27:28):
Need some we maybe we need a raven come back.
Every week. We're gonna practice like that and play like that.
So we'll go from there.
Speaker 12 (27:34):
You got to have those fourth post intersections and Franchise's
street sort of pasting Rod wasn't it's where's the means.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
You can be in that house.
Speaker 15 (27:42):
I just want a super Bowl, honestly, that's all I
that would be. That'd be the best one. So, uh,
if I could do that, that'd be great.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Next up, we heard from wide receiver DeAndre Hawkins.
Speaker 7 (27:58):
See, well when will was disposed to uh, you know,
we really don't get a lot of that supposed to plays.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Like that, you know, especially against uh defense like this.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
So you know, I guess we haven't last two games,
we haven't you know, had it supposed to plays, and
so I just kind of getting back to our ball,
you know, uh, you know say making plays, Lamar, you know,
doing this thing on the ground. But I would say
just us making its supposed to plays, not turned over
the ball.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
And the world parts supposed to play.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
You had a see it was thirty yarder m.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
So a thousand perspections back.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
To you when you get to talk to you just
you originally like the talk which somebody you know, I'm
just thankful that, you know, uh, I'm able to play
this game at this age thirty three. You know, I
have a lot of friends who uh you know, I
came into the league with.
Speaker 7 (28:55):
I got a lot of a lot of people I
came into this league with, you know who uh who
aren't playing. So I was grateful that I'm able to play, uh,
you know at this age. And you know, my quarterback,
you know, trusts me to come to me.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
Uh you know when I'm out there.
Speaker 13 (29:07):
And then.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Frustrated. And one of his frustrations why when you came
to continued, didn't.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Expect to me.
Speaker 14 (29:16):
It's been so up and down.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
So just at Pete, I quite a relationship with Lamar.
Speaker 9 (29:19):
Right now especially, you know, I'm very grateful for Lamar.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Lamar.
Speaker 7 (29:24):
Now you know we uh we've been wanting to play
together for years and uh, you know some things. You know,
a couple of years ago, you know, where I thought
I was coming here, they decided to go another way.
Uh you know, and Lamar, now you know it was
like man, you know when when opportunity come, you know, uh,
we're gonna make it happen. And you know this off season,
you know I could have I could have went to
(29:46):
some different teams, uh and got more money than I did. Hear,
but I was like, you know, at this point in
my career, man, you know, I want to play with
somebody who I can see their friend off the field
and a team that I knew. I know it was
a couple of plays away from accomplishing something last year.
So you know, to play with play with La Mom,
play with Derek, uh, you know, and Jay Flowers. You know,
I think you know me seeing Jay had one of
(30:07):
his best careers. You know, while that gives me a joy. Uh,
just being able to be out there with him and uh,
you know, practice coaching through some things and.
Speaker 6 (30:14):
Just watch him as a player.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Girl, what made that season? I can't hear him you
the off season?
Speaker 6 (30:21):
How is it? How how does it comparedion? What was
the lasts like?
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Especially?
Speaker 13 (30:30):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (30:31):
You know when I'm out there on the field, you know,
I try to do what I can. Obviously, I'm always
be a competitor, uh and have a mumble mentality till
the day I'll retire. And uh, even after that, I
probably still you know, will have the mentality like I
feel like, you know, I'm one of the best players
on the field, you know statistically.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
If that's not the case, that's that's always be my mindset.
Speaker 7 (30:52):
And so coming here, you know, that's off season obviously,
you know, you know, there's a lot of guys that
that deserve the ball on this team and we have
a a good offense. So uh, you know, I wasn't
and I'm not upset that you know, things uh, you
know aren't you know statistically you know, uh where out
you know, where I expected myself to be. But you know,
(31:12):
we're in a position to to play, you know, in
a big game that just coming week, that's weekend. Uh,
and that's you know that to me, that means more
than statistics, you know, going out there playing meetings for
football Martha.
Speaker 9 (31:24):
Thirty six yards in the first half.
Speaker 8 (31:26):
That's the most for any game this season so far.
Speaker 12 (31:30):
Is he a could brother quarterback?
Speaker 6 (31:31):
Yuh? Part of you said he threw hot pome minute
thirty six.
Speaker 9 (31:33):
Yards in the first half, most or any first half
so far this season. So does that make him could
brother's quarterback?
Speaker 7 (31:39):
Uh? L Lamar is a quarterback, you know, no matter what,
you know, I think he uh, he'll play in any weather.
Speaker 14 (31:45):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
But you know that's that's that's cool to be be
part of. That was the most hit in his career
this season.
Speaker 7 (31:50):
Okay, well, yoll you know that's cool to be part of.
You know, uh, you know, out there to help him
accomplish that. Uh, and you know we work hard that practice,
so it was no surprise.
Speaker 15 (31:58):
They'd do other and so get you to shut out
for the first time against Joe Burrow and Joe Burrow
shut out for the first time.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
To see since college.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
What kind of message doing that.
Speaker 9 (32:09):
To send it for next week's game?
Speaker 6 (32:11):
Uh? You know that, you know we're hungry. Our defense
is a group of guys.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
They play together and so well take a day for
day and defense they take a day for a day.
So I think, you know, we're just taking it day
for day of practice. I don't think you know, we're
really worried about you know, next weekend, but worry about
you know, Tuesday practice, Wednesday practice.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Actually heard from wide receivers, they flowers. She scored a
big touchdown in this game.
Speaker 17 (32:53):
I mean we became became out and executed our playing.
We could have made a few more plays here and there,
but we like we ready for next week. We're ready
for next week. We ready to move on the next week.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
What are you catching that ball out?
Speaker 4 (33:04):
Whether you're like close up her hands, but then you're
a book make up.
Speaker 6 (33:07):
For it like me, it's slick.
Speaker 17 (33:10):
The ball becomes slick, so I mean that's on me.
I we practicing the cold, so I gotta catch though.
Speaker 6 (33:17):
Yeah, that's about it.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
It was probably a little man's best game in weeks, scirt.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
What did you see from him? Do you feel like
anything was particularly clicking with the offense?
Speaker 17 (33:26):
I mean we turned over the ball one time. I
had a drop, but two jobs. But we ch We
took care of the ball better than we did live game,
so that's a plus.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Do you feel like this Finn says about this team
and resilient to the field.
Speaker 17 (33:39):
I mean, we gonna fight til the end. Man, long
as we got the chances, we gonna keep fighting all
the way to the end.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
I mean you said you're ready for next week?
Speaker 5 (33:45):
Is that to the mindset?
Speaker 8 (33:47):
Rise the momentum a little bit.
Speaker 17 (33:50):
We gonna ride the more mental but we on to
the next week. This game over we gotta win. We
gotta win out. So that's what we planning on doing.
So we were getting ready for next week.
Speaker 11 (34:00):
The performers and how well they do.
Speaker 9 (34:06):
I mean, you can see how they practice. You can
see how they practice.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Every week, weekend and week.
Speaker 17 (34:10):
Got the energy in their room, the energy and all
the rooms. So I mean it's there's not a shock
to me.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
What was What was your view on that K interception?
You get it to a low V and they take it.
Speaker 9 (34:20):
Oh no, that was crazy.
Speaker 17 (34:22):
I wouldn't like I've seen him like ready to pitch
the ball, but I'm like, man, just go down with
the ball.
Speaker 9 (34:27):
And then he gave it to low and low. You
could tell he was ready to touch the ends on
he's been waiting on that.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
And lastly, we heard from middle linebacker Roquan Smack.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
Very emotional seeing him go down and your emotions and how.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Much you guys played for him tonight.
Speaker 13 (34:50):
Yeah, no, it's it's it's something any time you see,
like you know, your guy goes down, somebody you go
to war with every day and like like truly just
a good dude, like give him the chills thinking about
it and just like knowing what he stands for knowing
all that he's gone through.
Speaker 6 (35:08):
So when you just see that just sucks.
Speaker 13 (35:10):
And like, obviously it's an unforgiven business and you know,
we know that we sign up for that and it
just sucks.
Speaker 9 (35:17):
But I know it's a minor set back for him.
Speaker 13 (35:21):
Yeah, it's not much I can say in the moment
outside of just I'm there for him and like let
him know him their for him regardless, uh what it is.
And like he's a strong minded individual and it's just
one of them things, one of those tough pills to swallow.
Like but like I said, it's reality. Nothing me, orgnor
him can do to change it. And it's just part
(35:43):
of this unforgiven business. So he can't take any moment
for granted. And I know he don't as well.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
Bro, he got shut out bruh today, He'd never been
shut out before the NFL as a starter. Uh, what
what's clicking for you guys today? And then do you
think this is the type of defense performance you guys
can build off? Cause I know you guys know what
you feel like you can do when everything clicks. Yeah.
Speaker 13 (36:02):
Absolutely, I feel like we talked about it all week
and I felt like we did truly have our best
week of practice this week from a defensive side of things,
and then just knowing, you know, the type of challenges
that the offense was gonna present, like but it's about Okay,
they're gonna make some plays, but it's about excuse me.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
Doing what we do, and like, yeah, the shutout came.
Speaker 13 (36:26):
So that was just part of it where it was
just each play have a life of his own, and
I was just more so emphasizing that to the guys
one moment at a time, take a deep breath for
each and every play and give it all you have.
Speaker 9 (36:37):
And like that's what I felt like we did.
Speaker 13 (36:39):
Yeah, they made plays and we're gonna have to make
some corrections, but you know, shutouts don't come often in
this league, so anytime you get it in versa a
guy like Burrow is definitely pretty special.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
You feel like it's a type of performance you guys
can build off of down the stretch.
Speaker 13 (36:54):
Oh absolutely, I think this is just like part of
like us sewing who we are as a defense, like
and right now we need that game in and game
out because, like I told the guys, it's like it's
no more second chances anymore, it's like right now, it's
the moment every single time, and we have to carry
that throughout the rest of the season in order to
get to where we want to go.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
You're listening to the Ravens Presspast podcast. Make sure you subscribe.
