Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Pass Podcast. The date is Thursday,
September fourth, and today after practice, we heard from some
members of the Ravens coaching staff heading into the week
one matchup against the Buffalo Bills, offensive coordinator Todd Munkin,
defensive coordinator Zach Orr, and special teams coordinator Chris Horton.
We'll also hear from rookie kicker Tyler Loop, rookie Mike Green,
(00:25):
and running back Dereck Henry. We'll get things started with
offensive coordinator Todd Munkin, Scott, how does.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
It appeel just to get after hisponent that he's a
last team you faced off against.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
You have obviously tap on that last playoff team.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Where's the thoughts face a Buffalo?
Speaker 5 (00:46):
Now? We're excited.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
You know, we expect to play a good team and
they should expect the same.
Speaker 6 (00:55):
What did you think of the summer that Charlie Kohler had,
especially knowing what the injury report looks like for depth
chart looks like at tight end, as far as him
having a bigger role potentially.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Has had a great off season really come along, and
part of that is opportunity. You know, he's in his
fourth year, I think, and improved every year, and like
I said, he's had a great off season. I'm excited
to see him play Sunday Night.
Speaker 7 (01:19):
Which as your approach to like week one any different
other weeks. And then you know you don't have any
film with them with their stars and shit, they don't
have any of you. Does that change anything or not anything?
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Not?
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Really? I mean their coaches are the same. Our coaches
are the same. I mean, when you're good, you have
a belief system and how you do it and how
you go about it. So sure there's some off season studies.
There's things they're going to see that they haven't seen
on tape. And I'm sure there's things that we got
to apply our rules for things that they've done studies
(01:51):
in the off season defensively, So that's just part of it.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Week one.
Speaker 8 (01:56):
Yeah, if that wasn't there isayas do you feel like
there are so many different playmakers that you do have
that as far as dealing with that, there are a
lot of different.
Speaker 9 (02:06):
Ways you can go.
Speaker 8 (02:06):
It's a little bit easier maybe in some places where
it's miss key guys and you're really get hamstrung.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
No, I feel good about our guys, the guys that
will suit up Sunday and now I'll be ready to go.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
There's a lot of focus on Martin Andrews with the
way the game was played there last year as a quarterator.
Speaker 9 (02:22):
How do you how do you kind of.
Speaker 7 (02:25):
Does that influence at all what you're doing in terms.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Of No, I mean Mark's is a great player, has
been a great player, has made a number of great
plays for us. That's not why we lost the game.
Mark Andrews is not the reason we lost the game.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
So did I not answer the question writer? Was there
something I was missing?
Speaker 10 (02:44):
Like?
Speaker 11 (02:44):
It does it does influence your your strategies to to
try to have him specifically be a part.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
No, No, He's always a big part of what we do.
I mean every week he's a big part, and we
expect him to, like every week, have a great game.
Speaker 12 (03:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
You guys throughout the regular season last year were so
good about avoiding turnovers. Seriously, Lamar documate ballway and what
do you think happened in that game that they turnovers kind.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Of all come out at their own time.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I don't know, cause we've won other big games where
we didn't turn it over, So you know, That's that's
why you gotta win a lot of big games to
get to where we were at the last couple of years.
I've been here, uh without turning it over, and you
got to do it in the playoffs. Just happened that
it it came up then, and it's unfortunate cause you're
not gonna win turn it over three times and we
know that you're not gonna win the regular season. Forget
(03:38):
the playoffs. I mean, when you're playing really good people,
you might overcome it when you have certain advantages, but
certainly not.
Speaker 13 (03:43):
Then Todd Ronnie it said, there's a lessers but he
feels like the offensive line is did she.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
Bounds head of where it was in terms of the
details or to this time last year?
Speaker 14 (03:52):
What have you seen from Lym What where do you
feel like the runt.
Speaker 10 (03:55):
The last year?
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Well, I mean, first of all, they played outstanding football
at year, But at this time last year we all
went through a change. Maybe we lost Joe d you know,
George came in. I mean there was a different voice
in the room. So sure you're gonna be leaps and
bounds ahead of where you were last year because George
Warhap's been in the room with those guys third year together.
(04:18):
A lot of us are the same that have been
here three years together.
Speaker 11 (04:23):
In the early days of the camp that the prestipt
handed leis were something you guys wanted to work on,
you wanted to rep you know, cadence and stuff like that.
How do you feel with kind of a couple of
days before the season over where you're at at that point?
Speaker 5 (04:34):
I feel great, feel a lot better. And that's why
you keep working on it. You know, you don't.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
You don't just give in and say, well, we're gonna
go on one snap count just because we're struggling with
no You got to fight like hell uh.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
To be lead at it.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
You can't say you're gonna be a nightmare to defend
without being able to use cadence to your advantage.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
You just can't.
Speaker 15 (04:53):
And the rest of the NY what do you want
to see from the open football?
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I think that's what I mean, that's the biggest thing
what we've worked on all off season.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Clean football. Our operation starts with that. Our operation.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Okay, as we talked about our cadence, our pre snap penalties,
those things right, staying out of the chains, like I said,
protecting the football, finishing downfield, being the most physical team
on the field.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
I mean, that's that's really what it comes down to,
and we're pretty good when we played link clean football.
We really are any factor in just.
Speaker 9 (05:31):
The unknowns of it is a new season to kind
of watched each other this season as far as film,
when you're play cauling and going through real time kind
of piece of littles together more.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Long Again, it's during the game is where you'll have
to make those adjustments. Because you're right, we don't have
any film of any off season studies. But both of
us had really good years last year, outstanding years, So
you've got to count on that. Like I said before,
like you got to believe in something. So the core
(06:03):
of what they're going to believe in defensively has got
to be the same, and that's the same with us.
I mean, you can have some bells and whistles some
other things you've worked on and maybe refine those and
get better, but you are who you are and then
let's go play.
Speaker 11 (06:16):
You guys are going to get to face some really
talented defenses in the first couple of weeks of the season.
How excited are you to kind of get away from
playing your own defense and stack up against some.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Of the line.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Well, we get to go against a pretty good defense
every week, so we're fine there.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
And every defense in the NFL is really challenging.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
I mean, you've got the best coaches in the world,
you got the best players in the world, that each
one presents different challenges, and then that's up to us
to do a great job every week to put ourselves
in the best position to move the ball and score points.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
I mean, that's what it is.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
It's nice to have the players that we have, but
then putting it all together Sunday nights, which really really
what matters.
Speaker 16 (06:53):
Do you sense an eagerness just to get to it.
I mean we're asking you all these questions about last season,
the players, to all these flying around to me, is
is it nice to just have a real thing in.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Front of you now? Well you can feel it.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
You can feel it this week with our players and
us as coaches, like it's here. You no longer it
can say, well, who's going to play in this preseason game?
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Where are we at?
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Where's the roster at? No, here's our roster, here's our guys,
here's our opponent. The seasons in front of us, everything
we've worked for in the offseason, everything we've worked for
in camp to get to this point, to lay it
out there right, let it rip, see where're rep.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
So was Todd Monkin addressing the media after today's practice,
and now we'll hear from defensive coordinator Zach Orr.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
The biggest thing you.
Speaker 16 (07:40):
Wanted to get out of camp and be able to
be ready for week one?
Speaker 5 (07:43):
And do you think you got it?
Speaker 3 (07:45):
I definitely think we got it.
Speaker 12 (07:46):
But the biggest thing went out of camp was just
all eleven guys that's on the field at the same time,
having the same common goal, being on the same page,
and then just cutting it loose out there man. So
from an execution standpoint, everybody doing their assignments, eleven guys
playing as one, and then just cutting it loose man
attacking the football. That's the main thing we wanted to
(08:07):
come out of camp, man, being fundamentally sound, being aggressive
and maximum effort.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
And I feel like we've done it. I'm happy with camp.
Speaker 12 (08:14):
It's been one of the best camps that've been a
part of here, So very pleased with how that went.
Speaker 17 (08:19):
So I've spent a lot of time throughout camp theory,
but how good this defense can be?
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Knowing how for you guys started last year, is there
just an excitement you show.
Speaker 15 (08:27):
What you can do with this group and just get out.
Speaker 10 (08:29):
There and go play football.
Speaker 12 (08:30):
Yeah, I think it's it's excitement just because it's it's
the start of a new journey, and you know every
year is different. We feel like we can we can
be very good, but we got to go out there
and go do it. So I think that's what that's
the exciting part of it is. Now we're putting a
lot of work. The guys have worked so hard. Man,
it can't be you know, proud of those guys enough,
but they're putting the work.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
So now it's time to go out there and go
do it.
Speaker 12 (08:51):
You know, everything that we've done up to this point,
you know, it really hasn't counted. You know, it hasn't
counted on the scoreboard. It's counted, you know, for us
building what we want to build. But now it's time
to go do it. So I think our guys, I know,
we're excited to go out there and go show the
work that we put in and get off to a
good start.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Chris along those lines, you know that comes out as
most right away. He knows so as a as a starter,
how much curiosity do you have? And seen where that
get translated over to the regular season, and then I
guess what is the value of having, you know, kind
of backed up like sy CFF City spot.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Oh man, I'm fully confident in Malac. I can't wait
for him to go out there and go play a
full game.
Speaker 12 (09:28):
I mean, he played a little bit in the preseason,
but he didn't play a lot of snaps. Like I said,
you know, it'll be interesting how he goes out there
and go do I know how, I know how I
feel like.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
He's gonna do.
Speaker 12 (09:37):
I think he's gonna play really well for us. He's
done great in camp, he's done great in practice. I'm
like saying he doesn't he doesn't play like a rookie.
He doesn't you know, act like a rookie. But you know,
like we said, this is week one, so it's this
is gonna be his first professional game. We got to
go out there and go see him do it. But
I'm confident that he will go out there and go
play great football for us. You know, like I said,
he played early at Georgia, so this is nothing new
(09:58):
for him, and then as far as guys like Sanousie
that that's been in the system, he's done a great
job for us as well, So fully confidence in him
if he has to go out there, Zach, you haven't.
Speaker 16 (10:08):
Been a former player yourself.
Speaker 17 (10:10):
It's no secret around the league, not just here, that
fewer and pure starters units are playing in the preseason.
From a defensive standpoint, how much is there to that
concern or I guess the unknown of guys that haven't
truly formed tackled to the ground since last January, And
you know that just the challenge of that when you
know you're going up against a formidable.
Speaker 12 (10:30):
Offense, that's definitely a challenge because there's nothing like I mean,
playing tackle football. You have to actually go out there
and tackle to get get better at tackling, you know,
we do. I feel like coaches have done a great
job with the drills.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
We've drilled the.
Speaker 12 (10:43):
Mess out of out of tackling drills. We've tried to
simulate taking guys to the ground. So I think we've
done as best a job as we could, you know,
simulating tackling. But also, like you just said, first game
of the season, you know you never know. That is
something that you have on my mind and we sit
there and say, we gotta we got to go out
there and do the little things, and tackling is a
(11:03):
thing that we got to do well if we want
to win.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
On Sunday, a lot of people are trying to I mean,
move bast last year's game. It's a new season and
all that one.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
I mean, this is the team you played last year.
Speaker 14 (11:13):
At the end, what are you defensively?
Speaker 8 (11:16):
What are your kind of biggest takeaways from that game?
Speaker 12 (11:19):
The biggest takeaway from the game was they beat us
man and they controlled They controlled the clock, and they
controlled the football and they didn't turn the football over.
So you know, we have to definitely force them to
play the game on our terms.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
It's not easy to do. You know, they're one of
the top offenses in the league.
Speaker 12 (11:36):
But we didn't do what we need to do from
a fundamental standpoint and attacking the ball. So we got
to be better job at doing that, and you know,
we look forward to that.
Speaker 16 (11:46):
With the total body of the two games against the Buffalo,
I'm sure when you zeroed in on how you go
serve executed the plan that you wanted to against Josh
Allen particularly, did you think you did a pretty good
job of doing what you wanted to do against them?
Speaker 12 (11:58):
I would say the first game, yes, because we won.
The second game, no, because we lost. Real simple, man.
I mean, you know, he didn't have to the second game,
He didn't have to do a lot to to beat us.
So I can't look at that and say we did
a good job against him because he didn't have to
go crazy for them to win the game.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
They found other ways to win.
Speaker 12 (12:19):
I think that's a testament to good quarterbacks, you know,
taking what the defense gives you, if you feel like
you got the game in control, not losing the game,
and not putting the ball in harm's way.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
And that's what he did.
Speaker 12 (12:29):
So, you know he said every every year is different.
We've played them quite a bit. We understand the type
of player he is and what type of offense they have,
and we got to find a way to not only
slow him down and stop him, but also the other
skill players that they have on their roster.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I know you're an NBA guy, and you know a
lot to talk about defenses are only as strong as
ever just link. Do you think a similar dynamic isn't
playing the NFL or is.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
A kind of different game with.
Speaker 12 (12:57):
I think it's definitely a similar dynamic because just when
you have a team sport, you know obviously teams they're
gonna attack.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Where they feel like you're weak at.
Speaker 12 (13:06):
So if they feel like you're weak in a certain
area and you are weak there, you know it's not
a good thing. But if you really don't show any
weaknesses or don't have a weakness, or if they try
to think that they have a weak spot and that's
actually not a weak spot, then it plays in your favor.
But I definitely think that plays now, not as much
in basketball though basketball they could really single you out
and do some real damage to you for real, and
(13:27):
you can't really get no help out there, just or
as a coach.
Speaker 11 (13:32):
Just after Marlin entered as a rookie, but I just
wanted to know what was your first impression of him,
and do you have any kind of good anecdotis that
stood out to you both from his early days and
now you've got to know him more and more.
Speaker 12 (13:43):
Man, Marlin, He's the first thing that stood out to me,
is this dude here here a rough rider on that field.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
I'm a nice guy.
Speaker 12 (13:50):
Great guy, goofy guy off the field, but when he
hits that field and he puts those pads on, he's
gonna go one hundred miles per hour and he's not
gonna care who he hits. He's gonna hit somebody. And
that was kind of you know, you don't see that
much from the defensive back, especially corner what he what
he started out as. But just really seeing his growth
and maturity. I think I think Marlin had the benefit
(14:12):
of when he came here, he had a lot of
older VET guys around him like Ludarius Web, Brandon Carr,
Jimmy Smith, Eric Weddle, Tony Jefferson, Anthony Levine, all these guys,
and now he's that guy for a lot of the
younger players. So just to see his maturity, his his
growth on and off the field, and to see him
that he's still playing at a high level and you're not.
(14:34):
I still think he's underrated as a player in this league.
So I'm excited to see what he does this year.
But his growth and maturity throughout these years, since the
time I've known him, has been tremendous.
Speaker 18 (14:46):
For you You think, you know, year ago at this
point going into your first time as a d C
to now you have got the year on your belt.
How different are these weeks from a year ago to
now to this one as you get ready for week one?
Speaker 12 (14:58):
It's funny because I was it's a it's a little
different because I I kind of know how to what
to expect and temper my emotions. I would take my
inner emotions. But every every issue it's game week.
Speaker 9 (15:13):
Man.
Speaker 12 (15:13):
You know, it's exciting. Every week it brings its own challenge.
Every every year brings its own challenge. So I really
won't know until till the game happens, you know what
I mean. Obviously last year was was was a good
experience for me, so you know, I don't think me personally.
It's a lot of things that you can throw at
us that I won't be prepared for.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
But you know, we'll see.
Speaker 12 (15:34):
It's always, you know, teams and offenses always getting together
an offseason, scheming and huddling up ways they can get
over on this defensive guys, So you know, we'll see
what they got Sunday, Rookie, where'd you.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
See from them that made them a good fit for
your defense?
Speaker 12 (15:49):
And did you see some of yourself and their journey definitely, man,
all three of those guys, Hats off to them, key
On Martin, Ruben Lowry, and Jay Higgins. They earned it.
They earned it, man, every single day. And I think
it starts with, first of all, you gotta love football,
because I'm telling you right now, if you undrafted a
free agent here and you don't love football, yes, you're
probably gonna get out of here before you can get
(16:10):
a chance to get to training camp.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
So they love football.
Speaker 12 (16:14):
They were consistent every single day as far as their
work ethic and showing up the practice, doing the right
things and being coachable getting better. And then they got
to play making ability. Man, you got to be able
to make plays at this level. You can be a
hard worker, you could be a good dude. Ultimately you
got to make some plays if you want to make
an NFL roster. And they did all three of those
(16:34):
things and they continue it on a daily basis, and.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Those guys stood out specifically early on.
Speaker 12 (16:39):
The biggest question for them was going to be once
we put the pads on and getting these preseason camps,
are they going to be able to stay consistent with it?
And they did so definitely, Man, I see you a
little bit just me kind of looking back that you
asked that question reflecting, I can definitely see that man
and kind of, you know, put myself in those shoes
and see, you know, how they made it and how
they feel with that.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Thank you, appreciate to thank you.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
You're listening to the Ravens Press Pass podcast and that
was defensive coordinator Zach Orr. You'll now hear from our
Special Teams coordinator Chris Horton.
Speaker 13 (17:15):
Good to see everyone. Hope all you guys are doing well.
What do you guys got, Chris?
Speaker 10 (17:20):
How much excitement?
Speaker 6 (17:21):
Obviously you guys have put in so much work with
Tyler and he's put it in the world to now
be at a real game, you know, something that you
try to simulate as much as you can, but just
knowing that, you know you can't fully simulate what happens
to them.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
You know.
Speaker 13 (17:34):
I think Tyler's in a great place, you know, and
I think he showed that this preseason when you watch,
you know, you watch his body of work and what
he did, you know, to him and to all those guys,
because they're they're all young and they're rookies, they're real games, right,
you know, you still got to go out there and
you still got to go out there and produce and
perform at a high level.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
And he did that.
Speaker 13 (17:55):
And I just think this is just the next game
that's in front of us. He's gonna out there, he's
gonna kick his butt off.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
How how interested were you what Jordan showed a preseason?
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Is that kind of representative of what.
Speaker 13 (18:11):
It's very much representative of what he's been doing on
camp Man. Jordan's uh, he's just been outstanding, you know,
just this year he's uh, he's put it all together
and it's it's it's coming together well. And Randy's done
a great job with him of just you know, making
sure that the fundamentals and the and the details of
how he walks his lines and things like that and
you'll get the punts that he's looking for. And he's
done that. So it's good to see and we look
(18:32):
forward to caring that over to Sunday night.
Speaker 16 (18:35):
Chris, the three undrafted guys who made the team, do
you think all three of those guys could help on
special teams right away?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Put in that position?
Speaker 13 (18:42):
I mean, I think all three of those guys did
an unbelievable job. I think, you know, when you when
you look at the big picture of what they what
they've done, Uh, not only on the defense, but they
also excelled on special teams. And you know, all three
of those guys have really done an outstanding job. And
you know, and uh, just continue to looking forward to
seeing in that and then yes, all three of those
guys will have a role, and they all have roles,
(19:04):
and they'll be different roles. But expect, highly, fully expect
those guys to go out there and play well.
Speaker 11 (19:10):
How nice is it to have a ad a veteran
like j T this late in the game, a guy
who's been in an All Pro special team or and
obviously has a ton of.
Speaker 13 (19:18):
Experienced No, Jeff, you know, first off, you know, you
gotta think Eric and George and Mark for that man,
you know, and you know, you get a guy like
JT just he's just sitting out there and he wants
to come to Baltimore and be a part of this
program in this organization after all the things that he's
done and the reputation he has in this league.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
It's it's very exciting to have a guy like that.
Speaker 13 (19:38):
I mean, as a special teams coach, you know, you
you you you look for guys like that, right, and
have that guy just sitting out there and for us
to be able to get him and get him here, man,
it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 18 (19:50):
Chris has your confidence that what we saw from the
Jonte in the preseason is when tramp wants is real,
he's gonna as a book, he's gonna go right like
we just saw.
Speaker 13 (19:59):
Yeah, like because it's like the it's like the Tyler question, right,
it's kind of like for all the for all the
young guys, you know, you get this, they're all they're
all young. And for Lejohnte, it's not that it's not
that the games that he didn't play they were not real.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
They were real games. They were there were guys going.
Speaker 13 (20:13):
Going after him and trying to get after him, and
he caught the ball great and he made great decisions.
So uh, that's that's real football that's being played, even
though it's preseason football. Let's make no mistake about there's
guys out there that are fighting for jobs and you know,
and trying to make teams.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
And he's gonna be fine. And that's why and that's
why he made this team. You watch him catch the ball.
Speaker 13 (20:30):
He catches the ball with confidence, and now we're just
looking forward to continue to see him grow and we're
gonna get him going.
Speaker 11 (20:36):
What's the biggest thing you've learned over the course of
last year about this so called dynamic kickoff?
Speaker 13 (20:43):
You know, I think, well, with the with the with
the rude changing again and you know, now the touchback
being the thirty five yard line, you know, I think
there's just there's.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
Just a lot more.
Speaker 13 (20:51):
It's like, you know, you really want the ball at
the thirty five yard line. Last year you were probably
okay with the ball being at the thirty yard line.
So there's there's been a little bit of change. But
from our stand point, it's a it's an opportunity for
our guys to go out there and you know, and
just cover kicks, h the plays alive again.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
It's it's an opportunity for our.
Speaker 13 (21:07):
Returners to hit big returns and and field kickoff returns.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
So we're just looking forward to just going out there.
Speaker 13 (21:14):
I think we got a little bit of the angles
figured out and kind of how we want to handle it,
and we're gonna do some good things.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
So Special teams coordinator Chris Horn answering questions from the
media following today's practice. Next up on Raven's Press Pass podcast,
we have rookie kicker Tyler Looke.
Speaker 9 (21:33):
Yourself personally, just the mental aspect of it's your first
men in the league, where there's a lot that goes
into the behind the scenes.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
To have it on the horizon, a little bit of ve.
Speaker 14 (21:45):
I don't know, it's it's kind of the same, like
I would, you know, it's first regular season game, but
I it really felt like the Colts was the same
because you know, we played football one hundred and twenty
yard field, fifty three and third wide, eighteen foot six uprights,
and like that's the same thing. Uh, it's gonna be
on Sunday, and you know, having that mindset of and
(22:05):
I've been I've been kicking a football on a big
stage since you know, college and now in the NFL.
It's it's fun. It's the same game and it's the
same same operation, and it's just really exciting. Got better at, uh,
(22:26):
developing a consistent process. I think over the course of
college it changed and kind of evolved into what it
is now. But really the past three or four months
working with Randy and Jordan and Nick, developing a process
is repeatable. Is something that I got a lot better at.
Speaker 16 (22:52):
What has What has it been like working with him?
Speaker 2 (22:55):
He's a high energy guy, obviously, What is that relationship.
Speaker 12 (22:59):
Look like to you?
Speaker 14 (23:00):
It's been fun. Uh, we've got a good relationship, you
know we uh, you know, when we get to work,
it's work and we're on the field, you know, it's serious.
But off the field, you know, I think we got
a good friendship, right we you know between our room,
like we like to crack a lot of jokes and
hang out and spend time together and keeping it light,
keeping it fun has been been cool. But you know
(23:24):
it's what's really nice is when it's time to work,
it's time to work and we can be honest with
each other and have good conversations about where we need
to get better, what we're doing well, and what it's.
Speaker 11 (23:33):
Going to take to be successful.
Speaker 9 (23:35):
Probably doesn't.
Speaker 10 (23:38):
Why.
Speaker 14 (23:40):
Uh So it was given to me in college.
Speaker 10 (23:44):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (23:45):
One of my really close friends that I played in
high school with and then barely miss playing with in Arizona.
His names Blake.
Speaker 11 (23:53):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (23:53):
He wore thirty three And when I got to Arizona,
I think he told the coach He's like, hey, like
get give Loop thirty three and I wore it and
it just kind of stuck. Like I They asked him,
do you want to change? Like, nah, just keep keep
it rolling. It's kind of become can become my thing
at this point. So yeah, it is. Oh gosh, it
(24:16):
sounds like, oh it's it's hilarious. A lot of people
like it's it's not corny, but it's just funny because
I'll want like sometimes if I get recognized in publics,
people go there it is and I'm like, but uh no,
it's fun and it's it's something that my family likes
to they've kind of liked to adopt and make jokes about.
(24:40):
And it's it's been really cool to see Baltimore embrace
me like that, and it's made me feel very supportive
here and it's made me really excited to be here
playing football for the Ravens.
Speaker 17 (24:51):
Do you know where it started?
Speaker 14 (24:52):
Because your family obviously got the traction going in the
Dallas game on TV where I have no idea where
the first time has brought up, but I know, uh,
I know my dad and like brother after the draft
and my house for looking at it and they're like, oh,
they're saying that every time they make a field goal,
they're gonna get lose.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
There is and so uh, it's like, you know, what
really do?
Speaker 14 (25:16):
It'd be fun.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
That was Tyler Loup talking about kicking in his first
preseason game this weekend in Buffalo. Now you'll hear from
another rookie, outside linebacker Mike Green.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
I know defense obviously a collective effort, but as passbutchers,
how much premium do you put on getting constant pressure
on him to try and help.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
You guys win.
Speaker 15 (25:40):
It's gonna be very vital because I think that, you know,
pass rushing as a whole is very important. So you
get the quarterback off their launch points, you can get
the DB's more time to to uh to cover. So
it's very vital. And uh, I think we got a
great room of past rushers and I and it's gonna
(26:03):
be a great test for us.
Speaker 9 (26:05):
Mike, I apologize if you got it, but you had
some preseason obviously, But how excited are you to get
the first one going for yourself?
Speaker 14 (26:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (26:11):
Yeah, I'm I'm really excited. It's gonna it's gonna be
the first time we get to showcase our talent. I
think we got a great team and of course that uh,
the the competition that that we're gonna get is gonna
be good as well. So it's gonna be a good test,
and uh, we're ready and we're excited.
Speaker 9 (26:26):
For yourself personally, is something you've worked for, You're gonna
take that moment pre game to soak it all in
at your.
Speaker 15 (26:31):
NFL debuts here of course, of course. And that's kind
of just what I do before every game, even the
preseason games that I played in, just try to take
some time and just come to realization and realize like
all the work, everything that you did leading up to
this point helped you get to there. So so yeah,
so before every game, I'm doing that, Mike.
Speaker 11 (26:50):
And I know, you know, one game at a time
at the same time, you do you ever look at
the first month of schedule, like, Okay, Josh Allen, we
got Jared Goff, we got Patrick a little bit, look
at the schedule quarterbacks.
Speaker 15 (27:04):
One of course, of course, and uh it's kind of
crazy because I don't know who our second game is.
So we're always focused on chicking, uh chipping at each
level that we that we play and everybody that we play,
we we make sure that we give them are all
week because we respect him, of course, and and we're
(27:25):
ready for this week. And we've just been preparing this
whole time for this first game. And uh, as the
season goes on, of course, you can have previous more
and more time to to play the other uh quarterbacks,
of course, but I think as of right now, we're
focused on, uh, the main thing, and that's our next game.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
What's the What are some of the.
Speaker 8 (27:47):
Fat's told you about trying to bring down Josh Allen?
Speaker 19 (27:49):
He is uniquely challenging, sayah, and uh, I kind of said,
like he's not just big, he's also fast, he's exclusive,
he's he's quick as you can tell. It's it's it's
difficult to get him down.
Speaker 15 (28:03):
So uh, I mean we're doing our tackle drills, of course,
and uh we're we're getting coached up to what to do,
and uh I think that we're very prepared for it.
Speaker 19 (28:12):
And and it's gonna be a good test for us.
Speaker 8 (28:14):
How much is chasing Lamar around?
Speaker 15 (28:17):
Yeah, if if you could chase Lamar around, you can
chase any receiver around in this league. And uh, he's
did a great job giving us great looks and yeah,
so it's been good.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
That was rookie Mike Green on the Ravens Press Pass podcast.
The last Raven you'll hear from today is the King
Derrick Henry.
Speaker 10 (28:41):
Derek.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
You've obviously had a lot of openers. Uh, this haven't
really had a chance to get live action. How excited
are you to finally do that Sunday night.
Speaker 10 (28:51):
I'm always excited when football is back. Happy a week
one and you gotta get rolling.
Speaker 7 (28:57):
This offense out your second year in it. Uh, a
lot of weapons. Uh. How eager are you to see
you guys finally be able to you know, turn things
loose and against another opponent.
Speaker 10 (29:08):
Yeah, got one more week a practice uh tomorrow and
walk through was on Saturdays, and thank gods, it's just
focusing on working hard through the week and then let
it go out there and show on Sunday. You know,
I'm excited for everybody. I'm sure everybody decided to get
back to playing football, and you go out there executed
and played the way.
Speaker 9 (29:28):
Do we know how John Marbo.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Said the other day, You know, you'll watch that last
game that motivation?
Speaker 8 (29:33):
What has motivated your demost from that last game.
Speaker 10 (29:37):
That they advanced and we didn't, So you know they
have the upper hand on us. They played the hell
of a game and it's the reason why they won.
And uh, you know, we get the opportunity to play
those guys a year.
Speaker 7 (29:49):
You know.
Speaker 8 (29:49):
The little things were some of the things you're pouring too.
His issues last year where they apreciate that penalties. You
just gotta be yourself feeling that was a real Eppensis
Johnson in the off season, you feel like that was accomplished.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
You got ready.
Speaker 10 (30:01):
Well, I think last year is last year. You know,
we didn't like the way it ended last year, but
you know this year is a new year, and you know,
focus on that what we need to do to put
ourselves in position to win. I know we know what
not to do, you know, so you know, just focus
on the positive things, fix the things that we need
to get better at, and go out there and pay
(30:21):
us all the football.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
That was running back Dereck Henry answering questions ahead of
