Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into the Ravens Press Past Podcast. The date is Thursday,
November thirteenth, and today, after practice ahead of the week
eleven AFC North matchup in Cleveland, we heard from the
Ravens coordinators Todd Monkin, Zach Orr, and Chris Wharton, as
well as quarterback Lamar Jackson, veteran running back Derrick Henry,
tight end Mark Andrews, and rookie safety Malachi Starks. First
(00:24):
up on Ravens Press Past Podcast, we have quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
So, how did you feel.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Back out of practice yesterday?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Feel good, man, It's always good to be outside my gosh.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (00:40):
As far as the.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, yeah, getting.
Speaker 7 (00:45):
Better I don't if I want to happen Saturday.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
I wasn't able to, but yeah, after it happened, yeah
I did.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah. No, playing football, things that to happen.
Speaker 8 (01:03):
Where You've bet you've got some memor memorable kid games
in Cleveland and also some some rough ones. Why do
you think that has been a tough place to play.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Over the years.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I mean it's in a D a divisional opponent, you know,
and we see him twice a year, so sometimes you
wanted sometime sometimes you lose something. But it's part of football.
I guess what's that?
Speaker 8 (01:26):
As far are you with the progress since you come
back and points a big good twenty seven twenty eight
a game, But I uh, you always say you.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Want more and more and more points.
Speaker 8 (01:34):
What's what do you see?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Zipartment? What do you feel?
Speaker 9 (01:37):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Shoot?
Speaker 4 (01:38):
If anything, we need more points? You know our defense
is playing great? Uh session til you're playing great. I
feel like we have great moments, you know, but just
being consistent, that's what we chasing right now.
Speaker 8 (01:48):
It's it maybe nice to have a games but where
you you didn't have to put the team on your
shoulders at all, and just you know, especially everyone was playing.
It was really complimented football like that to not have
to feel that weight.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
I believe you know, everybody just played their part, you know,
each and every game. Cause I always say that, you know,
I'm not the one blocking, I'm not the one catching
the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
I'm not the only one running the ball either. You know.
Everybody always play apart no matter what.
Speaker 6 (02:12):
And Lamar went out, they'll play with Mark Andrews.
Speaker 7 (02:15):
They look up the push pushing them the toss this week?
Speaker 10 (02:18):
Can you what's your reaction when you first bring that
a practice field.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
We're gonna run that the first time.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Uh, I was cool with it. You know, we did
something similar like that in the past.
Speaker 11 (02:27):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I think we did something like that against Cleveland before.
We did something like that against Cleveland before. I think
that was what Gerald offense though. Yeah, we did something similar.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
So I was I.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
I really didn't have a you a thought with it.
You know, I'm playing football, Lamar.
Speaker 12 (02:41):
Is there something specific that you think is holding you
guys back from finishing authorized in the end zone?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Uh? S, I can't call it, you know, can't call it.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
I believe we dropping the ball down the field a
g a good amount, you know sometimes, but uh, we
gotta punch in that ticket and cause Dolphins game we did.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
You know, we got in the red zone.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
We scored like three times, four times, w whichever one
it was. Uh, but it was a good game. You
know it was at Uh it was in Minnesota. You know,
great crowd, great defense. Uh, it was just a a
NFL game.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
What was it like, Bill.
Speaker 8 (03:17):
Against the defense where you have a Mileski everything from
the build side.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Uh, try to get as much hands and objects on
'em as possible.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
You know, a guy like leading the league in sacks
right now.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
I believe you know, so get as much god as
the block 'm as possible if anything?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, good more.
Speaker 13 (03:37):
Some of your design rush numbers have gone down from
last year this year.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Do you like being able to just use your arm
a little bit more?
Speaker 14 (03:43):
And I feel like you have to take your place
with your legs as much.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
You know, i'm'a do whatever it takes to win. You know,
I I don't really pay attention to the numbers of russers.
You know, got Derrick Henry Kee, You, Mitchell Justice, Sean
Allen Ali. You know, we got all these guys to
run the ball and sometimes they you know, so I
don't really be read about it as long as we win.
Speaker 12 (04:03):
In like, you know, defense is to split to you
more when they see you show up on the injured bord.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
I mean, is that a consideration of yours?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
That's cool with me. I mean, I'm cool with it.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
We're gonna see, We're gonna see.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
That was quarterback Lamar Jackson answering questions about the AFC
North battle in Cleveland on Sunday against the Browns. Next
up on Raven's Press Past podcast, you'll hear from defensive
coordinator Zach.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
Orr, it's going on, how y'all doing? Y'all doing all
right already one Sunday.
Speaker 6 (04:49):
What do you think was the big reason for you
guys to get you mccarlin.
Speaker 15 (04:53):
So, I think that first and foremost, you gotta give
credit to the players, man. I thought that this was
the best uh kid offs that we had when in
true pass rush situations. I know those guys been working
working on that. I think that just what we've been
able to build with our different looks since the bye
week has helped us out as well, able to present
different challenges to the offense. And I think that guys
(05:14):
were just relentless with their rushes.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Man.
Speaker 15 (05:16):
We're able to throw a lot of different bodies at
them with whether it's pressure with dbs or off ball
linebackers or the front four winning. So it was good
to see man, and a lot of guys had real
good games. I thought Travis Jones probably had his best
game as far as probably in the run and pass game,
but definitely as as a rusher. And we made a
big emphasis after the Miami game about we didn't get it.
(05:38):
I don't think we got any bad passes in Miami
and We made a big emphasis of that, and the
guys did a heck of a job doing that, especially
up front, so I think that it.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
Was a It was a good building block.
Speaker 15 (05:48):
We could have been a lot better, but it definitely
was good to affect the quarterback. And you see what
that does for the defense when you're able to actually
get pressure and hit 'em.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Is that a mentality thing of just remembering to get
your hands up if you're not.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
Going to get there, Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 15 (06:02):
It's like you push the pocket, get your hands up.
I can't remember the exact numbers, but we did a
study in the offseason where if you do bad enough passes,
eventually those things will start leading the interceptions. So eventually
we're banking on those to start leading to some interceptions
for us. But you got to be able to get
your hands up and bad passes down. There's a couple
of passes we batted down that really helped us out
in coverage. A couple of times they rubbed us. But
(06:23):
I remember Big John he got in the red zone
late in the game. He got a bad pass that
probably saved the first down or touchdown. So those things
are key. Man, it's momentum killers for the offense as well.
Speaker 13 (06:33):
Mike Green's really turning at the corner the last few weeks.
Speaker 11 (06:35):
Just what's impressed you with his progression this season.
Speaker 15 (06:38):
Just just the way he comes out here and work man,
I mean, you know him, Teddy Malacha, Tho's three rookies
probably been playing the most for us. They got thrown
into the fire early, man, and I think the game
is starting to slow down, meaning they're starting to adjust
to the to the speed of the NFL.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
And you know, the work he's put in.
Speaker 15 (06:57):
Chuck Matt Dennis have done a great job, great out
with him. He comes out here every day, busses busses
tail off, and you're starting to see his production start
to go up and his and his ability to really
start showing. So, you know, we're excited about him. Still
a lot that he can can get better at. So
I think that he's on a good trajectory where he's
at right now.
Speaker 9 (07:15):
You play Raymond Jones that much with being here for
half a week, shoot.
Speaker 15 (07:21):
Man, right when we got him, right when we got him.
He's come from similar systems obviously, but I think, man,
we're used to it's part of the NFL. When you
when you get guys, whether it's through a trade or
free agency, or you're bringing the guy up from practice squad. Uh,
you have to get him ready, man. So I know
he spent extra time with the coaches just getting a
playbook down and and understanding what he has to do
(07:44):
and him studying on his own. So he's done a
great job man. And he came in right when we
got him. He said, whatever you guys need to do,
I'm gonna do it. So I think that's a hats
off to his his character and what type of man
he is.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
Man.
Speaker 15 (07:55):
And UH definitely needed him, and he played really good
for us and in his first game for us.
Speaker 10 (08:02):
But what kind of message does it says to you
as a coaching staff when a guy like.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Niate Niggins comes up, comes up to you guys and says,
I want to comfort this guy this week, I want
to draft.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Well, what is your reaction to that?
Speaker 15 (08:13):
What kind of messages that it's good we want our
guys to we want we want elite competitors on our
team and on our defense, and you should want to
challenge yourself to go against the best every single week.
So so we love that about We love that about Nate.
We loved about a lot of our players, but that
just shows that he's an elite competitor and he wants
to compete against the best, and that's what we're looking
(08:35):
for you. If you're not elite competitor, it's gonna be
hard to be a great football player. So we want
our guys to take on those challenges and to want
that responsibility.
Speaker 12 (08:45):
Mentioned that the getoffs for for the Past Rush is
that literally just the first step?
Speaker 15 (08:51):
Yeah, the first step man, just getting a visual key
off the ball or or whatever your visual key is,
whatever your third down tail is, and getting off the
rock and just making the order to back feel you
you might just getting him off the spot is key, man,
And I thought our guys did a real good job
of that, and I think you saw that that lead
to production for us in the Past Rush department.
Speaker 8 (09:12):
A couple of you guys that they have to the
defensive to stop playing like they was afraid of making
it respects. Do you feel like that switches sport?
Speaker 6 (09:21):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 15 (09:21):
Man Like, when you worry about making a mistake, you
know you probably gonna end up making one because you're overthinking.
And we told our guys like, look, go out there.
You guys are plenty of talented enough. It's our job
to put you guys in the right position.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
Go cut it loose, and effort helps overcome mistakes.
Speaker 15 (09:36):
So if you make a mistake, but eleven, you know
the ten other guys are running to the football, we
could kind of negate some some big plays from happening.
So you can't play scared or passive in the game
of football, especially not on defense man. And we preach
about dictating the tempo. And I think our guys have
really took and taken that message to heart, especially the
last couple of weeks of just let cutting it loose,
(09:58):
trusting their training and go get it.
Speaker 13 (10:00):
Do you take a ten thousand foot view, what does
Kyle Hamilton allow you to do scheme wise and help fun?
Speaker 14 (10:06):
Is it to be able to game play with a
guy like that on defense man?
Speaker 15 (10:08):
He allows you to do a lot. Man, I mean, shoot,
I mean you guys see it. He's a real talented player.
He's a real good player, one of the best in
the game regardless of position. And when you have a
guy and it's a lot of people who are talented,
who are best at their position, but they only can
play one position, Kyle can play all across the defensive
backfield for us, on the edge, at the second level,
(10:31):
at the lineback position for us, and allows us to
do a lot of different things with him because we
know offenses have to know where number fourteen is at
at all times. So that allows us to do a
lot of different things with him, I think, and you
just got to give credit to him for being able
to accept that and be able to go out there
and produce and be productive at all different things that
we ask him to do. So he definitely is a
(10:54):
cornerstone for our defense and we definitely game plan around
him and his ability and his work ethic, his ability
to do a lot of different things allows us to
do that.
Speaker 16 (11:05):
You get didn't see Jill gabrid of the lifetime, Yeah,
playing them what What's your Depress?
Speaker 15 (11:10):
Took Man?
Speaker 7 (11:11):
We saw him a little bit.
Speaker 15 (11:12):
He came in the game late in the game, Man
and drove down the field and threw a touchdown passed
against us, So you know we're familiar with him, but
actually just getting ready to study him and getting ready
for this game.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
Man.
Speaker 15 (11:24):
He has a quick release. I think it does a
good job of seeing where he wants to go with
the football and he's just he's young. He's getting better
every single game, and just like our rookies. Man, you
throw these rookies in here, it's tough to go out
there and go be productive really early. But you see
the game is starting to slow down for him. He's
starting to get more confiden, he's getting the ball out
of his hands, and when he doesn't like what he sees,
(11:45):
he has enough athletic ability to make you pay with
his legs. So we definitely have to make sure we
take his first read, make him uncomfortable, and then when
he gets ready to take off, we can not let
him escape the pocket and extend drives. Oh man, I
think that they're all right. Man, they're not bad. They're
not bad, but they they need they need some work.
(12:06):
Though I say that doesn't need some work. But I'm
just glad that they're celebrating. Man, football fun, Like, let's
let's go have fun out there. And guess what's fun
on the football field when you're making plays and when
you when you're playing good. So I think that the
celebrations are good. That means we did something good on
defense and we's gonna keep challenging our guys to to
get better at him.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
Che brought to you your defensive personality wise, that doesn't.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Play cheetos Man.
Speaker 15 (12:32):
He's he's a he's a He's a great pro and
he's been a ground in the game a long time.
He brings a lot of energy, wisdom, and play making ability.
So I've been real pleased with him. When we first
got him way back in the spring. You know, he
was you can see on film he was a very
smart football player. But when you get in a classroom
with him, you getting these walkthroughs with him, and you
get on the practice field with him, he understands route concepts,
(12:54):
he understands leverages, And what he's done is he's helped
teach the young corners, you know, understand space and route
concepts and how they can play certain routes.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
And he's been doing a great job for us this
whole year.
Speaker 15 (13:06):
Man, And I think that this last game was good
because he actually got tested multiple times and he rose
to the occasion.
Speaker 7 (13:13):
So he's brought a lot for us.
Speaker 17 (13:14):
Man.
Speaker 15 (13:15):
He's been good in the classroom, obviously, been real good
on the field, and I'm glad that we got him.
Speaker 18 (13:21):
There's been a lot of funds that lut George Sanders
and when is he gonna player?
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Do you spend any time during the week looking at
his statement preparing for him too?
Speaker 15 (13:29):
Yeah, definitely we always look at that, you know, I
think our scouts they do a great job of preparing
us of who can possibly be coming to the game,
And we always do that with backup quarterbacks because you
want to know what you could potentially be facing. So
we've definitely done some work on him, you know, last
game and getting ready.
Speaker 7 (13:46):
For this game.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
That was defensive coordinator Zach or answering questions before the
Ravens face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. Now we'll hear
from offensive coordinator Todd Munk.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Uh the practice, how do you feel great?
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (14:15):
Markin and but it's Alzeimer's CEV record been in a
few years.
Speaker 6 (14:18):
What what most impressive you.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
About here out?
Speaker 6 (14:22):
Well?
Speaker 10 (14:22):
I think I answered that last week. I mean, he's uh,
loves football, comes to work every day, competes. I don't
know what else to say about him. I mean it's just, uh,
he's not only very talented, but he's certainly worked his
rear end off to get where he's at. I mean
there's a lot of hard work that he's put in
to get to the level he's at and uh been
(14:45):
a blessing. He's been a raven What do you see?
Speaker 6 (14:47):
You have a pretty one game.
Speaker 12 (14:48):
BET's a team that you know, Dride himself a good
tough year for him altogether.
Speaker 10 (14:53):
But he got good players, good coaches. I mean, you
know there are there are to go against. They challenge
everything that you try to do offensively, They try to
give you nothing. We just got to do a great
job of stay ahead of the chains. When we've done that,
we've been fine. But you know, tremendous they do a
great job.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
Saw some wrinkles and some three activity.
Speaker 6 (15:16):
Red zone scheme.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
How much does that required in today's day age when
you know scoring down there really for the top.
Speaker 10 (15:23):
Oh, it's important. We've been that since we've been here.
Sometimes you get a little bit away from it, and
sometimes it doesn't work. I mean that's part of it.
You can't be afraid to, you know, shoot your bullets
and give it the best shot you can. Obviously critical
part of winning scoring touchdowns on the red zone.
Speaker 9 (15:41):
Justice Hills fail ability for Sunday, But having somebody like
Keaton Mitchell could come in and maybe do more that
especially what we saw last week, he looked more like
the guy we saw before he got hurt.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
And we're excited.
Speaker 10 (15:51):
We're excited and Keep. We're excited for Keeping. Hopefully Justice
will be able to go. But I think I think
Keaton deserves the opportunity to uh to play more.
Speaker 18 (16:00):
Todd for Charlie Kohler now having you know, two touchdown
passes this season already, is it interesting for you to
look at the way that his tight end room now
has turned into three half catching tight ends necessarily work
before more so like all around tight.
Speaker 11 (16:15):
Ends, blocking and such.
Speaker 10 (16:18):
I haven't really looked at it that way, but I
get what you're you're uh, you're saying. We've always had
tremendous faith in Charlie's ability in the red zone. There's
just only so many balls to go around. I mean,
when you have Isaiah and Mark, so I just think
Charlie in the three years I've been or just continue
to get better and better and does the dirty work
for us. I mean really, that's that's where he's made
(16:41):
his mark is on special teams and blocking the sea gapod.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
It's great, keeps steam to.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
Kind of now it's important.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
It's important to.
Speaker 10 (17:05):
You know, especially against teams that are aggressive. Minnesota was aggressive.
These guys are aggressive. You don't want to be standing
back there, you know, holding the football very long. Uh,
that's calling it and that's also staying out a third
and extra law and that that helps.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Question.
Speaker 16 (17:23):
Then then the play where Andrews lines of Otter centers
have toss suite to Mark Andrews, Andrews line the butter
center tosswe to Laura Jackson.
Speaker 12 (17:32):
Do you enjoy coming up with those?
Speaker 13 (17:33):
It's a lot of fun, is it is?
Speaker 3 (17:35):
It is that creative part of it, you know, something
that excites you.
Speaker 10 (17:40):
Yeah, all of our staff comes up with that. I'm
not the only one. There's a collective you know process
with all of us. Like most staffs, everybody has a
part of the game plan. Coach is involved in it,
and we're all involved in coming up with creative ideas.
But we're also uh a big part of making sure
that when it gets called that it works and then
(18:00):
it looks like you want it to look like.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
And that's to me, that's the that's the big thing
about it.
Speaker 10 (18:05):
You can be creative, come up with a lot of
ideas and then when it shows up on film, you
know it doesn't look like you want it to look like.
So you got to make sure that you you get
it oiled up leading up to the game, so you
know in those critical moments you can you can execute
a high level.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
You can't play obviously, it's more opportunities for other guys.
What have you seen from devontees Walkers? It's you know,
he got off to a hot start early in the year.
Speaker 6 (18:30):
What have you seen in practice for it good?
Speaker 10 (18:31):
I mean, you know, tes was doing really well and
then he got hurt, you know, and sometimes that opportunity
doesn't come again until later. Now now here it is again,
you know, with you know, hopefully they'll be able to go,
hopefully be able to practice tomorrow. But it's one of
those situations where you know, there's only so many guys
you can dress, you know, and so you end up
(18:51):
also keeping up more.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (18:53):
But but I'm excited to see test play a Sunday.
Speaker 7 (18:59):
This year, especially since Lauren has come back from that injury.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
It doesn't seem like as many.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
As compared to maybe previous years.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Is is that a conscious decision or is it just
something the quarterback driven runs. Oh, the correct design runs.
Has that been less this year than maybe pres year?
Is that a conscious decision or is that just something
that because of the way the game is gone, hasn't
all the time?
Speaker 10 (19:21):
That is the way the game goes, or the game plan,
the way we want to run it, the way we
want to attack somebody. Some of that's by design, you know,
and some of it is also by what we're expecting
to get.
Speaker 6 (19:34):
Just twenty three rushing yards.
Speaker 12 (19:36):
And in that first game against Cleveland, was it just
a kind of a game where you take your captain
them or were there things that you guys could have
could have done better than.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
Free him up?
Speaker 10 (19:42):
Oh, it's always a combination. I mean they're really good.
They got after pretty good. I think we ran twenty
one times for like forty six yards, which is unacceptable.
I mean, there's no other way to put it. Really
nothing to do with Derek per Se other than it's
not good enough. Just like we don't throw the ball
well enough for four h good enough of the red zone.
Doesn't matter what area of the game. It's unacceptable and
(20:03):
you gotta fight to fix it. And we and we have,
you know, you know, and that happens. I mean, this
is the NFL. You got good you got good teams,
good defense, but we've got to do a better job
running it.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
You're listening to the Ravens Press Pass podcast. That was
offensive coordinator Todd Monkin addressing the media after today's practice.
Next up is special teams coordinator Chris Horton.
Speaker 19 (20:34):
Good to see everyone. I hope all of you guys
are doing well for us moving into this week. We
just come out here every day, man and just try
to just try to grind it out and just try
to get better at the things that are gonna help
us continue to help our team win football games.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
What questions do you have?
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Definitely aside of ten, but he had a nice turn
on you say something. Actually it was a positive play,
but it was maybe not the right area where he field.
Speaker 19 (21:06):
Well, Jameson, I think to that, to that question, I
think it's one of those things, right. We we talked
to our guys about decision making. Right, if there's an
opportunity to return the to return the football, and you
make the right decision on it, then let's go. Let's
go get those yards, right, because that ball, that ball
could have easily been a fair called or down at
wherever it was gonna it was gonna hit, but it
ended up being a nineteen yard return, right, and so
(21:29):
it allowed us to get to get some yards out
of that. I think our guys do a great job
of making the right decisions, and I thought he made
the right decision in that in that situation.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Talking to Jordan's stout in the locker room describing or
trying to describe the Boar Ranks punt and how he's
gotten a hold of what what how would you describe it?
Speaker 9 (21:49):
In his touch with it.
Speaker 19 (21:51):
I think it's something that he's gotten better at. I
think I think Randy uh spent a lot of time
with him working on just finding another another tool that
he can use and he can bring to games. But
I mean, it's one of those I looks like like
a helicopter propeller spinning up there, right. It's just it's
one of those you don't know where that ball is
gonna land and things like that. It's been very effective
(22:11):
for us, as you guys, as you guys can see,
and I think it's something that we will continue to
use because it is a weapon and it's all about
field position.
Speaker 9 (22:21):
DeAndre Jackson to continue to just to send on special
teams and then to make a play like that and
play the apex at that game for at that moment.
Speaker 8 (22:29):
But did you see someone like that come through on
this journey to get to this point satisfying either for
you or for the whole the team's group.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
It's it's very satisfying, right.
Speaker 19 (22:39):
You talk about a guy that originally didn't he didn't
make the team, right, and then he just came out
here every day and he went to work and he
got better at the things we asked him to get
better at. And then when he's getting his opportunity, he's
not he's not only just a role player, like he's
an impactful player for us, right, and these last couple
of weeks, Man, this this guy has made a ton
(22:59):
of plays out there.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Right.
Speaker 19 (23:00):
But then it it correlates with all the with all
the other guys, you know what, all the all the
good things that KeAndre is doing. Uh, it's guys been
in the right spots, which is also allowing KeAndre to
just go play freely and get to the football.
Speaker 7 (23:12):
But it's very.
Speaker 19 (23:13):
Satisfying, I know, you know the guys, Uh, his personality,
everything he brings the energy. I mean, it's just change,
it's just changing what we do. And uh, I can
tell you this. I mean we're excited and we love
having him out there.
Speaker 12 (23:26):
Some people out there and kick cover today.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Like does a new Fervat give him maybe.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
More room to be impactful in in that way or
is that just his skills out that?
Speaker 19 (23:38):
I think special teams in general, I don't think it
doesn't matter the body type. I think there's a role
for for every player on this team if they embrace it.
One of the things with would would with fub Man,
He's he he is willing to do whatever you ask
him to do, right, So we had an opportunity to
get him out there, let him, let him cover a
kick and if that's something that we decided to do
in the game, then we know we can we can
(23:59):
put him out there.
Speaker 7 (24:00):
You know.
Speaker 19 (24:00):
But I think doesn't matter the player. It's just all
about what's your mindset? Are you willing to go out
there and do whatever it takes for the team. And
he's one of those guys, you know.
Speaker 12 (24:12):
I guess relative to last year when you guys had
some struggles just going into games more confident that you
guys special teams will be like have the upper hand
on the other team in a way that maybe last
year in a little bit more challenging.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
I don't really think it was challenging.
Speaker 19 (24:26):
I don't think we ever we ever go into a
game saying that, you know, we're gonna have the upper hand.
Our motto is, let's go out there and let's be
better than the team that we're gonna play that week.
Doesn't necessarily mean that that's gonna happen, right, nobody's gonna
lay down for us.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
We gotta go out there and we got to execute
just a few weeks ago.
Speaker 19 (24:45):
You know, you talk about the guys that we're playing,
they're young guys, right, So there is a process, there's
there's growth, and every week I'm just seeing these guys
just get better and better and better and better and better.
And it's it's starting to show right starting the show.
So we approach the we approach the games in the
weeks the exact same way, no matter how the week was,
(25:06):
whether we play good or bad, through praise or disgrace,
we are the same people because we know who we
are and what we're capable of, and so that's our approach.
Speaker 14 (25:14):

Speaker 1 (25:34):
That was special teams coordinator Chris Horton answering questions from
the media before the Ravens head to Cleveland to take
on the two and seven Browns this Sunday. Next up
on the Ravens Press Pass podcast, we have running back
Derrick Henry.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
So, when you're looking at that Cleveland Brown's defensive front,
what kind of jumps out at you?
Speaker 6 (25:56):
And they're disrupted front?
Speaker 20 (25:58):
They're really good, really good defense, and when they play well,
they do a lot of different stunts. Do the stunts? Well,
got my house, Garrett, cause then they just a a
solid group overall. They're the same way last year or is.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
It just to keep shipping away when you're going against
a front like that and and not be you put
to abandon.
Speaker 20 (26:20):
Yeah, I mean, I mean we saw a last game.
I mean they got the best of us and they're
the better group last time we played 'em. So it's
just looking at that film seeing how we can be better.
Focus on it, practice, executing it throughout practice. They'll let
it translate to the game.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
But we know it's gonna be tough. I mean they're
defensive solid. Talk to Bottle, you.
Speaker 9 (26:41):
Got the run game has gotten a lot better though
since then? What did what has been the keys for
that turn around?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 20 (26:45):
Like I told you about this executing, like we you know,
it takes all the loving of us to be able
to make that happen.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
Off, Salon's doing a great job.
Speaker 20 (26:54):
Ty didn't receivers blocking full back, you know, to create
space and for us to have opportunities in the run game.
And like I said, it takes all of us. And
we know that every defense is gonna be different. I'm
giving us different looks, but just focus on what we
need to do to be able to have success.
Speaker 13 (27:10):
Derek, it's a lot made of you hitting your high
school rushing total.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
Oh that's all that?
Speaker 12 (27:15):
What w What were your thoughts on that.
Speaker 20 (27:18):
I didn't like how people it took ten years to
them to get I mean, but now it is what
it is. I mean, that's just uh uh a cool
moment to be able to have. I did like the
one of the graphics I seen like me now hold
like put my arm around me in high school, so
I thought that was cool. But yeah, I mean it is,
but it it's overweight, naw, So I'm happy.
Speaker 18 (27:40):
Yeah, John made it pretty clear yesterday Lamar are not practicing.
Speaker 20 (27:43):
W was not gonna be a big deal when we
saw him.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
Today, but it's a kind of seemed believing for you
guys as well.
Speaker 19 (27:48):
And it's always great to have him out there.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Nah, I know if he if he can go, he's
gonna he's gonna go.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
And that's how he is.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
You know.
Speaker 20 (27:57):
Sometimes you might need a rest day to get your
body back under you, and I'll come out, come out
the next and.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
Be ready for be ready for Sunday. But you know
he's gonna go. He's gonna go. So we're gonna question
that can tell us about your charity.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
But you got coming up for Thanksgiving?
Speaker 20 (28:11):
Yeah, just giving out two hundred turkeys back home and
you live Florida out our local Walmart, the same place
I hold my Christmas giveaway for the kids and the families. Uh,
two hundred turkeys, first come first sir, So you ain't there.
I hope, I hope you got one, but my family
be handling them out for me. Uh. I think on
the on the twenty second, I believe. But yeah, I
(28:33):
just want to be able to get back and be
a blessing to others on the holidays.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
That was the King Derrick Henry answering questions ahead of
the Ravens Week eleven matchup in Cleveland. You'll now hear
from tight end Mark Andrews.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Mark, You've had some some great moves, big games in Cleveland.
What is it about playing the Browns that that you
enjoy and and what makes them a tough challenge?
Speaker 16 (29:01):
You know, obviously I've been fortunate to have, you know,
great teammates and being a great division and be part
of a great organization. Just trying to feed off that
and help make plays, and that's been part of it.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
You're very close to the triple crown in Ravens receiving
franchise history. Just kind of what are your emotions as
you approach that.
Speaker 16 (29:17):
Just continue to do my job, you know, not looking
you're really too much into that, but you know, focusing
on this game, executing at the highest level, and continue
to grow from week to week.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
And we're excited about the challenge this week.
Speaker 13 (29:30):
You've had a lot of success in the resident over
the course of your entire Uh, what is it that is?
Why did you do that in clean waiting for your
for this team?
Speaker 16 (29:39):
You know, just finding a way to get open, you know,
having Lamar back there playing football and being a big
body target and yeah, yeah, I would say that.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
I know each week is a challenge. Each game in
the North can be challenging.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
But for some reason, you guys in the Browns, it
doesn't matter record wise, what's on the line for each team,
it's always a tough battle.
Speaker 16 (29:58):
What is it about that that's a sp that we have.
You know, it's it's always gonna be a close fight.
And they got to extremely They got talented players and
a good team. And for us on offense, we've gotta
be ready to go. They got to extremely have it
causing defense. So for us to be on our p's
and q's doing our job to the highest of abilities,
is gonna be key.
Speaker 17 (30:19):
The chemistry you've built with them all over the years
has been built mostly by talking with him, by watching
film or is it just something between you two guys
that really kind of can't be explained.
Speaker 16 (30:31):
Because I mean, there's there's a lot of love, you know,
between Lamar and I, and you know, there's there's this like,
you know, unwritten, unspoken type of connection that you know,
from the second that we got here and not really
knowing each other that's always been there.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
But being able to you know, play and grow and.
Speaker 16 (30:52):
You know, become men, you know, in the same last
eight years together has been nothing short of special. I mean,
I'm proud of him and everything he's done because he's
truly a special person.
Speaker 9 (31:02):
Hav him back and practiced them he gave us. We're
outside of the building, a little scared of not being
out there yesterday, but just the comfort levelone he's he
looks exactly like himself.
Speaker 16 (31:10):
Yeah, yeah, Lamar is gonna be ready and you know
he's he's going to be excited for this game.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
Do you feel that panic or kind of concern when
you don't see him out there.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
Now?
Speaker 16 (31:23):
You know, you know, I'm not confident all my guys
you know, we got a stacked team here and you
know everybody did a great job of filling in yesterday.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
But no, no, no panic. Joke around with him about
the one hand on the.
Speaker 16 (31:36):
Pitch on that play a little bit, Yeah, I'm I'm
more joked around with him on the on the other
play when he kind of hurtled but he didn't get
very high.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
She scored that one.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
You've turned into a weapon on the toush bush stuff,
like when did you kind of embrace that? Is that
something you enjoy? And now fake tush bushes and all
that too.
Speaker 6 (31:54):
I think those are key moments in a game.
Speaker 16 (31:56):
Being able to you know, have a big impact on
the game is you know in those fourth, fourth down,
third and ones, whatever it may be. So take pride
in that, I think we all do as a team.
You know, that's a team effort of you know, driving
the file, getting getting the first down.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
How is it for you to know where Miles Garrett
is and ship as much as you can.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Before you go downfield?
Speaker 6 (32:14):
Extremely important.
Speaker 16 (32:15):
I think you know, all eleven guys are going to
be you know, keen on that and you know he's
not the only player on that defense. That's extremely extremely good.
So obviously he's one of one probably you know, if
not the best athlete of all time on defense, if
not the best defensive end all time.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
You know, So we got to be ready for him.
But really a big challenge for all around.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
You're listening to Ravens Press Pass podcast. That was tight
End Mark Andrews answering questions about the AFC North Battle
on deck this Sunday. The last raven you'll hear from
today on Ravens Press Pass podcast is rookie safety Malachi starts.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Football wise?
Speaker 7 (32:58):
What does it mean?
Speaker 9 (32:59):
Can you give an example of and we say, oh,
the game's slowing down for him? Is he see more?
Speaker 7 (33:02):
How does that play out for you?
Speaker 13 (33:04):
What does that mean?
Speaker 11 (33:06):
Just just not out there thinking, you know, like the
call comes in, I'm communicating, I don't gotta think as
much about where I'm supposed to be and home's supposed
to be there.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
I can just be there and fly around and get
to the ball and so.
Speaker 9 (33:19):
And that's what we're seeing now is for your MI
interceptions in each of the last two games, just not
having to freak out or worry about you know, everyone
else around you.
Speaker 11 (33:28):
Yeah, I think, uh, just really trusting the gods. Like
I said before, Uh, that's around me and trusting myself
and the preparation that I'm doing throughout the weekend really
just you know, when I see something, just believing and
go get it. And I think that's been that's been
the keys flying?
Speaker 7 (33:42):
Is that is it been?
Speaker 17 (33:43):
Like?
Speaker 7 (33:43):
Guy, is that gonna come? When's it gonna come?
Speaker 11 (33:45):
It's been a relief for sure, you know, but it's
it's all on God's tom And so I've just been
staying course.
Speaker 13 (33:49):
And now more than mentioned that last week or a
couple of weeks ago, you you said something to m
Kyle about being bets and how you appreciated that from Yeah,
you know, what was the context of that and is
what you want to play?
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (34:01):
I mean I just I just told him I appreciate him,
you know, like they're really good vets, really good guys
to learn from, really good guys that have in the room,
not just from a football standpoint but from a life
standpoint as well. So just to have those guys and
the way they lead and the way they go about
their business, I mean, I'm grateful to have.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Him in the room.
Speaker 13 (34:17):
How has uh the success in this defense in recent
weeks helped the confidence of the group and did does
that all kind of snowball.
Speaker 6 (34:23):
In a positive way?
Speaker 17 (34:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (34:24):
I think, Uh, whenever you have success is always a
positive thing. But I think it's just our mindset, you know,
how we want to attack it e each week. And
I think you know, every week is a start over.
You know, you what you did last week, you can't
carry it over into this week, you know. So it's
really just starting over from square one and you know,
seeing how we can grow better and be better as
the defense.
Speaker 7 (34:42):
Can must free with the low key.
Speaker 9 (34:44):
It's like it's taken very long. Can you describe that
what that's process.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Has been like? Yeah, I mean he's awesome man.
Speaker 11 (34:49):
Uh he's been in the league for a long time
and uh, he's another guy in the room that I
told him I appreciate, you know, just the way that
he carries himself, the way that he comes in day
in and day out about his business. I mean it's
great guy to have in a room and for me
to learn from it, you know, where our connection is growing.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
I love him. He's awesome.
Speaker 11 (35:06):
Yeah, without a doubt. Man, I think I think the
way he plays and just who he is, you know, like,
it's just it's who you want to Raven to be.
So it's it's awesome just to learn from him.
Speaker 9 (35:15):
And knowing that brings up Kyle the way that it does.
I mean, put yourself in his quarterback shees like trying
to figure out what to do with you. Never know
where you're gonna.
Speaker 11 (35:22):
Be, ask for more help. I mean, Kyle is just
different man. Like the things that he can do. I mean,
it's just it's just different.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Thank you.
Speaker 11 (35:37):
Uh, I gotta talk to him off youance got my
mom texted me. I gotta cookie cake.
Speaker 17 (35:45):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (35:46):
And that's it really, I mean, just spending time with
the guys. You know, it's just I'm very blessed to
be here and I'll take it. I take it very serious.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
So happy, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
