Speaker 1 (00:00):
Man, I don't know if I'm sweating because I'm nervous.
I know I'm excited, you know, maybe all of your
bull because we got royalty in the house right about. Yes,
let me give you the proper introduction that you need
only Ricky Smiley Morning Show Today, beloved actress, singer, comedian,
I say, a comedian whose career spans over four decades.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Did we just stop right there? Four decades?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Thank you god?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, I'm excited to be here.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
We are excited to have you. Thank you for coming through.
Of course. So we have been.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
Watching you on TV since Captain Kangaroo.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
Oh my god, there research this morning.
Speaker 6 (00:50):
But you're an icon.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
How does it feel to have such longevity in Hollywood?
And how have you seen the industry change over the years?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Oh my gosh, right.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah, that's how mouthful like. It's changed so much. Like
I remember when.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
I was the only little black girl on television at
one point in Fact of Life had just gone off
the air, and I came on with this show called
wax Riches, and I was the only representative of our
of little girls and little boys in our in our
culture children, you know, And I'm so glad that we
(01:26):
are now seeing like representation. We only had like one
cartoon that was fat Alberta, right, that represented us.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Right, that was it.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
So now you're able to see all these different people.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
It really has evolved.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
We had to kick down some doors and we had
to jump some hurdles. But I remember my grandmother used
to always say, you have to be extraordinary in order
to be considered average, and that has always I've always
taken that and kept that in the back of my
mind as I was navigating this space.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
I want to I want to take you down memory lane.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Okay, now you you've been in several movies, yes, say too.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Many, the even name the Lord.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
We're gonna play a little game, terrible game.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
We're gonna play movie, memory lane.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Lot movie.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I need you to say the first thing that pops
in your head when I named this movie.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Okay, all right, school days, wanna bees Boomerang.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I can't believe I was still on the screen.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Another forty eight hours. Danny Glover sprung.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
That was fun.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
House party, all of them.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
Oh good times as don't So we've seen you be hilarious,
you know, on TV, in movies.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
But I think some people may be surprised to know
that you're an actual comedian like in real life.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
No, I just.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Started this journey, right, So I never did stand up.
I worked with many of them, and over the years
all of them were like, you really should try to
stand up.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
You're really good at storytelling.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
And so I was like, Nah, y'all just want me
to bomb get out of here, right. But I was
really excited because it just it was a fluke and
it's something I've always.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Wanted to do. But I was scared.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
But now I'm on this journey, I'm doing stand up.
Now I get to interact with people because I'm a
people person. So it's it's great because there's no camera
or screen between us anymore, and they get to know me,
not a character of me.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
But just me.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
So speaking of funny, you know we got we got
to talk about the legendary Martin series. Yes, okay, so
we know how amazing Martin is, we know how amazing
the whole cast is. But let me tell you something, Gina.
I know you still to this day walk down the road.
Every day somebody probably calls you gena.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
Oh God, my son calls me Gina. I think of
it as an honor. It's kind of mind boggling. I
remember having lunch with to Shena and Martin, and Martin
was like, TISSI can you leave?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
They call uses?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Oh like I know that's crazy, Like we just can't believe.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
So do you want you MND sharing your favorite Martin episode.
I know it's gonna be hard.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Oh no, it's it's really easy. It was always when
we were all together. Okay, So it was always when
it was an ensemble piece. So it's the Halloween, the
very first Halloween episode and the Plumber episode. Those are
my two favorite episodes to film to be a part of.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
We just jelled, and.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
You know, I think it was really smart because all
of the casts except for Martin were from the theater,
so they surrounded a comedian by people who really understood,
you know, the art form. And I think that's really
really smart to do. Okay, So we got to talk
about Operation Aunties. But before we talk about Operation Auntias.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
We saw you at the VT Awards and of course
you look amazing.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Thank you look amazing, man, you look amazing. Now, how
do you feel about the term Auntie because I'm Auntie too,
and I'm like.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
Yeah, me, Auntie, I got aunties.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Some people don't like the term because because it may
feel I think it's like an ageism jang, and they
thinking makes them feel old. I've always loved being an auntie.
It's a term of endearment. It's a safe place to land.
That's what aunties means to me. So I feel like
I earned auntie. So when somebody calls me an auntie,
I love it.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I understand why people don't.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
But I personally think that it's a really good thing.
Speaker 7 (05:21):
So when you put it like that, Okay, I'm gonna
be an auntie all right.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
A safe place people could say to the kids could
say something to you that they can't say to their parents.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Right operation.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
So this new movie right and it's streaming right now
on All Black.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Let me tell you something. This was so much fun
to film.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
I was filming it with Melissa Dessa and Amaya Scott.
And it's basically a cyber crime drama. Y. So it
has your action, it's got your crime, it's got you
who done it, It's got a little bit of everything.
I just watched it the other day and I can't
believe how funny it is. I would ask you, what's
next for Titia. But there's just it's like you're doing it.
(06:04):
I'm doing everything that I ever wanted to do, and
because of COVID isolation, I was like, no fear.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
We were super proud of you before we let you go.
Any more.
Speaker 5 (06:13):

able to share our lives and our family lives and
it's been pretty dope doing that too.

on in the news. I've got to start off with
some sad news.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
Tulsa is mourning the loss of longtime homicide detective John Brown,
a thirty five year veteran of the police force and
familiar face with the first forty eight.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
Browns to him, Yes.
Speaker 8 (07:07):
He is one of my favorite first forty eight to
take this man. I was just watching last night.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
Yeah, he passed away after a battle with cancer, leaving
behind a legacy of service, compassion, and justice. In other news,
Elon Musky is catching heat hug in this time for
calling slavery just a standard practice until the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries. Now he said it while reposting a call
for reparations for white people in Africa.
Speaker 6 (07:33):
Critics say he's whitewashing history.
Speaker 7 (07:35):
Yes, of course slavery existed globally, but the Transatlantic slave
trade was uniquely brutal, racial, generational, and designed to build
white wealth off black bodies, and the irony Must's ancestors
benefited from land stolen during colonial rule in South Africa.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
But now he's calling land reform racist. Make it make sense.
Speaker 7 (07:56):
Meanwhile, after the Civil War, of course we all know
white slave owners actually got operations for their lost property.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
Freed slave's promised forty acres and a mule.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
They got nothing.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
Black Twitter did not let Musk rewrite history.
Speaker 6 (08:08):
They let him have it on his own platform.
Speaker 7 (08:11):

domestic violence toward her boyfriend, also Olympic star, Christian Coleman.
She was charged with fourth degree domestic violence and spent
eighteen hours in behind bars. Now the update is Christian Coleman,
the boyfriend is defending his girl personally.
Speaker 10 (09:02):
You know what I'm saying, I feel like it was
just a such a situation all around. Like I don't
feel as if like she should have been arrested, you
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Like, I mean, you know, people have.
Speaker 10 (09:11):
The specialists and emotions and stuff like that. She has
like things that she need to work on for herself,
of course, and so the wise, so do you So
you like everybody, And I'm the type of guy like
I'm in the business of just like extinding grace and

would defend her too that I was scared.

He was hoping for a taste of freedom, but just
yesterday the judge and his criminal case denied him bail
for the second time, pending his upcoming October third sentencing.
In the order, the judge said there were no exceptional
reasons warranting released before his sentencing. Did he file the
motion for bail last week. He proposed the ball package
with a fifty million dollars bond, and he said he
(10:48):
would chill at his Miami home and limit his travel
to Florida and New York. It's granted, but the judge
wasn't having it. The judge did point out that the
sentencing was just sixty days away.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Here's how he describes their relationship.
Speaker 12 (11:21):
That relationship is one of the greatest blessings and most
important things in my whole journey in life. Man. It's
one of those things where you don't know truly what
true partnership and relationship is until you get there. And
it took me some time maybe to grow and evolve
as a person. It's like those things you pray for
(11:43):
and you don't get them until you ready. I got
to say this, it's really dope to actually like have
a you know, be in a relationship with somebody who's
from Chicago because you don't travel all over the world
and you know, I've been in relationships and met with
but you know, this Chicago woman is it's something new,
something about them.

them and be in the wedding and celebrate them because
I'm telling you, because coming around the corner is your blessing. Yeah,
you can't get blessing if you can't bless other people.
