Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, wine and football aren't that different. Sure they're complex,
but enjoying them should be easy. You don't need to
worry about complex formations and flavor profiles or which wine
pairs with what all that matters is together. Barefoot Wine
and the rams are easy to enjoy, So let's enjoy ourselves.
Barefoot Wine the official wine sponsor of the NFL. What's up, Jammies,

(00:28):
Welcome back to another episode of Ricky's Ramjam presented by
Barefoot Wine, and the wine is flowing today. What a
thrilling overtime win against the Seahawks last Sunday. I am
still riding that high. That d rob one handed catch.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
That is like sugar plum fairies in my brain.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
NBC Sports Matthew Berry is going to be joining me shortly,
but before we get to the coin toss, I want
to hear Matthew Stafford in the locker room talking about
the mental toughness of this team.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
You know, we got down there and didn't score a
touchdown from the one we had a pump block. It
was just it was a crazy one. It was all
over the place. It took a lot of mental fortitude
and strength and believe in each other to win that
and that's what it takes and we have that, so
that's great. So yeah, I mean we lose Cooka in
the game, Rob goes out. I mean, it was just
all sorts of things we had to overcome and we
were able to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Time now for the coin toss. One of the options
last week was two sacks. Well, jamies, how about seven sacks,
three interceptions and a pick six. The defense said, we'll
take your two sacks on the coin toss and blow
that out of the water. And what a day by
the defense. I went back and looked at the comments.
A lot of you guys called the two sacks or over,
and boy did they deliver. Before I give this week's options,

(01:39):
I want to play a clip from coach McVay on
the defense's identity.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Mental toughness, the physical toughness. Especially if this defensive group,
you know, you talk about being able to find your identity.
It's four straight weeks they've scored. Now to be able
to get three touchdowns in a safety, I mean, it's
it's pretty fun to be around this group. And then
they've got just a contagious energy and enthusiasm and there
be a lot of reasons for them to be upset
with what the offense was doing today, and I never

(02:04):
since that, and I think that is such a cool.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Thing and what an identity that is. Okay, so let's
keep it going. Option one a score by the defense,
another defensive score in any fashion, points from the defense,
or a Kien Williams rushing touchdown.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
What's it going to be? Option one or two? Common below?

Speaker 5 (02:23):
All right?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Joining me now is Matthew Berry and we are in
the presence of acting greatness. Okay, Your Twitter bio has
you as the highest grossing actor of all time on a.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Per movie basis, Matt walk us through that.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:39):
I mean, look, I've only been on one, you know,
one movie, as you may or may not know, I
have a cameo in Avengers Endgame, which today is the
highest grossing movie of aaltime worldwide.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Now I've only been in the one movie, right, So again,
people want.

Speaker 6 (02:53):
To talk about you know, The Rock or Tom Cruise
in terms of total box office, and I get it,
But like on a per movie basis, I'm one for one.
This one has a higher box office. Not Chris Evans,
not Chris Hemsworth, not Chris Pratt. Not even Robert Downey Jr.
Because they've all been in movies that have made less
money than you know, Avengers Endgame.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
So there you go.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
I love it. And the confidence too is just awesome.
And it's great too when it comes to your fantasy advice,
and we love we love it.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
So when we're.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Talking confidence, let's talk about the confidence that comes from
a three game winning streak like the one the Rams
have put together for sure.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
I mean obviously, look, I think you know, it sort
of breeds itself, right, It's just sort of you buy
into this. And I think that when you are the
Rams and you've dealt with the injuries, and I think
people were unsure what there was gonna be of this
team coming into the season, right, I think coming to
the season, the expectations, well, well, the Niners are awesome, right,

(03:57):
and the Seahawks, mind emerged.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
We don't know were gonna get out of the Cardinals.
So they've got a hot rookie.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
But you know with the Rams, where we lose Aaron Donald,
you know, so we lose like our you know, our
defensive superstar here Matthew Stafford ken is back hold up
throughout the year, Cooper, Cup and Pooka and Akua both
dealt with injuries, uh during last year, and so what's
going to become of this team? And so uh being
able to sort of right the ship and get some

(04:25):
wins while some of these big name guys were out
right while while Cup was out, why Nakua was out right?
And so I think that's uh, you know, it only
helps to believe in the team. The other thing that
I'll say is, I know this having talked to a
number of players, Uh, this is not gonna be a
surprise to you, Ricky, or do anyone that listens to this.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
So that follows the rams closely. But I can tell
you from a national perspective, from a.

Speaker 6 (04:48):
League perspective, when you talk to players, when you interview
people around the.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
NFL, there be me there may need There may be.

Speaker 6 (04:55):
No coach in the NFL whose players respond the way
those guys due to Sean McVay like he is truly
a players coach.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Yeah, I think it's partially because he's basically their age, right,
you know, but he speaks their language, right. I mean,
they get it, and you know they're willing to just
go to battle for him in a way that he
relates to them in a way that a lot of
coaches just don't have that ability.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
As the Fantasy Guy, a New York Times bestseller of
Fantasy Life, did you expect the Rams defense to put
up that many points against an offense like Seattle?

Speaker 5 (05:30):
No, I didn't.

Speaker 6 (05:30):
What a shocking game that was, I mean, honestly, like
because it could have gone a couple of different ways.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
Credit the credit the Rams defense for playing tough. You know.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
Look, they got to Geno Smith. Gino Smith has actually
played at a really high level now. Two bad throws
in the red zone, which I'm sure he would like
to have back, you know, and they got after him
and they played good defense, you know, Gino, They they
made him force him into some errors that he doesn't
normally make. Overall this year, Gino and playing in Ryan

(05:59):
Grubbs offense, throwing over seventy percent of the time. He's
you know, all the underlying statistics are overall Genus played
really well. So it was a unexpected by the Rams
in terms of how well they played and in credit
to them, because I mean, you know, that was a
game they easily could have lost.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
And I think probably a lot of people expected them.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
To, right, yeah, and it's such a young defense, but
to see seven sacks, a pick, six, three interceptions and
they got me twenty two points for the on the defense.
So so it was really really fun to watch. And
like Jared Verse, their young first round pick, seems to
just be on every play and him and Brandon Fisk

(06:38):
has just been so exciting to watch.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
You know, we do I'm part of Football Night in
America at NBC Sports obviously, and I'm also part of
the post game show that we do for Peacock. So
we do a you know, after Sunday Night Football, there's
a post game show that airs on Peacock.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
And this past week we.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
Did our mid season awards and you know, I gave
out some mid season Fantasy awards, but Tony Dungee and
the Hall of Famer and Rodney Harrison gave out their
Rookie of They gave up their mid season awards, and
both of them picked Jared Verse as their defensive Rookie
of the Year. So it is you know fire, I mean,

(07:20):
who you know when you're getting when you're getting love
from Rodney Harrison and Tony DUNGEEO.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
You know, on the defensive side of the ball. Pretty
good day at the office.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I mean, Matthew Stafford has been in rare form as
of late. Six touchdown passes in his last two games,
and I want to know what makes him so good
in crunch time. I mean, it's his forty six game
winning drive. And also when it comes to playing, you know,
the Dolphins on Monday Night football coming up, This is
going to be an all Eyes primetime game. How does

(07:52):
Matthew Stafford and this Rams offense, which has Cooper Cup,
which has Pooka Nakua, which has Kien Williams who is
an end zone monster as I like to call him,
how do they control the game on Monday Night against
the Dolphins.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
So let's start with the first question, which is Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 6 (08:07):
And I think one of the reasons, you know, like,
this is a guy that has you know, going back
to his college days at Georgia, this is somebody that
has been in the spotlight, that has been in big game.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
You know.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
It's not like he was like a backup for you know,
Appalachian State, right.

Speaker 6 (08:20):
I mean, this is somebody that like when you play
in the SEC, when you play.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
At a big time program like he did.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
You know, you're sort of used to these pressure moments,
and so I think experience and then we had some
tough years in Detroit. But ultimately, you know, Stafford, while
he did have some tough years in Detroit, I think
that sort of helped mold this right. So Number one
is like, you deal with the pressure, the pressure that
comes with being a starting quarterback in the SEC at

(08:47):
a big time program, right, and then you go to
Detroit where, let's be honest, like, you know, there were
some lean years there where it wasn't there wasn't a
lot around him, so it was sort of like, hey, Matthew,
put on your Superman cape and go win this by yourself.
We don't have much else to help you out. And
there's a lot of one man band stuff with Stafford
during some of the lean years in Detroit.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
And so I think all of that experience, along with
the fact that he's just been doing it for so
long and been doing it at a high level for
so long, gives him the confidence to know, Okay, all right.

Speaker 6 (09:19):
What's a score. How much time do we got? Let's
go get this done. The one thing that I keep
hearing when I talk to scouts, and I talk to
people about Stafford. One thing they just say is the
thing about Stafford is that there's literally not a throw
he can't make. He can make every throw. There are
some quarterbacks in the NFL that can't right. There are
some that can't go it, that can't do it long.

(09:40):
There's some that can't do the touch passes. There are
some that have struggle over the middle, some that struggle
on the outside routes. Matthew Stafford can make every throw
you need a quarterback in the NFL to throw.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
He doesn't even need to do them all.

Speaker 6 (09:50):
He doesn't always do them all, but he literally has
the ability to make every throw you need. And so
when you're Sean McVay and you're trying to say, like, Okay,
this is how many yards we need to go, oh
and this is what we need to get done in
this timeframe, you know you've sort of got the whole kitchen,
the whole cookbook as it were, for your for your

(10:10):
you know, eating pleasure. For terrible analogy. I lost my
way midway through that, but you know what I mean.
My point is this sort of like Okay, you know
I need I need an eight yard out route. Okay,
I know what to do, like he just it just
gives them so much flexibility.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Absolutely, So what are you looking for for this Monday
night matchup?

Speaker 6 (10:31):
So the Rams open up is uh, you know we're
expecting fireworks, right, So over under is the last The
last number I saw is at this taping, it was
at fifty. Rams are two and a half point favorites.
I like the fact that it's at home for the Rams.
Obviously Miami has said but this is gonna be tough.
You know, Miami has lost two straight since two a
tongue of Iloa came back tough losses, right, and so

(10:52):
now they come in to Los Angeles. I think the
key here for the Rams is gonna be stopping Devon
eight Chan. Over the last month, the Rams very quietly
six best against the run in the NFL. They are
top six run defense over the last four weeks, and
so Devon a Chan who's been so good for Miami
offensively slowing him down.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
And then of course you've got to deal with Tyreek Hill, right.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
So ultimately I think they'll be able to We think
a lot of points are gonna be able to score
be scored here. I think what's also important, by the way,
and some of this is driven by who they've played,
but the Rams over the same time period, over the
last four weeks, they're the seventh best scoring defense in
the NFL. They've gotten a little ben don't break right obviously,

(11:34):
like we saw it against the Seahawks, right, Seahawks get
into the red zone twice, but you know, ultimately they
come up with the turnovers each way. And so if
they can, if they can make the Dolphins one dimensional
because Jalen Waddle hasn't done much.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
They're getting a little bit of production out of John
new Smith.

Speaker 6 (11:50):
But honestly, like like, I think they'll be able to
stop the run and so then it's just okay, Tyreek
will still get his but like we can bracket them,
we can double couple with throw some different looks at TUA.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
I think the Rams will be fine moving the ball.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
The Dolphins over the past four weeks have been a
bottom twelve scoring defense, even with to a back.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
Where they're not turning the ball over in short drive.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
Still, I mean, you know the Bills, we're able to
move the ball pretty effectively against them last week.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Yeah, before I let you go, I'll do my Ram
jam questions. But you're famous for your your Monday Night
Miracle tweets, and you know this huge matchup that we're
looking at the Dolphins and Rams under the lights. Which
Rams player do you think will have the biggest night
for a Monday Miracle.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
I'm gonna say Pooka Nakula. You know.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
I feel like, look, it's always look, is Kyron gonna
be awesome? Sure, it's Cooper Cup gonna be awesome, But
I think it's going to be Pooka Nakula.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
And here's why my guess is is.

Speaker 6 (12:48):
That he is embarrassed about what happened last week about
you know, being ejected from the game in his first
game back after you know, not his first game back,
but his second game back after missing so much time.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
With the injury.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
And so I think that, you know, we know that
Stafford and Cup and the Coup are also close, and
so I think that on a national stage, Stafford's gonna
want to get Nikoula involved. Hey, welcome back. Hey, All's forgiven.
I know there was a bad moment for you in
your young career. I think he's gonna want to get
him with confidence again.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
That's sort of the you know.

Speaker 6 (13:21):
That's again you'd sort of talked about Sean McVay and
his coaching being a player's coach. Right, how many times
have we seen like a player fumble and then you
never hear from that player again. There's a lot of
old school coaches like, hey, you fumbled, you're out. We'll
talk to him maybe next week. But McVeigh isn't that guy.
He's the opposite. You know, he's on the button, get
back right out there, you know, like, hey, you fumbled,

(13:43):
all right, We'll give me the ball three straight times
right now, you know what I mean? Like so, And
I just think in addition to his awesome skill set,
I do think that they'll they'll try to make an
effort to get Nikoua going and get his confidence back
after last week.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Bram jam is the last part of this interview, rapid Fire.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
What would be your perfect day, Matthew Berry?

Speaker 5 (14:09):
My perfect day.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
My wife and kids hanging out on the beach or
a boat surrounded by water, and then uh and then
coming in for the day and uh washing my commanders
beat the Cowboys by like forty.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Which celebrity would you like to switch lives with for
one day?

Speaker 2 (14:33):
I know it's tough.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
I mean, Sean mcvay's got a pretty good life. I'm
not gonna lie about that. One celebrity. I think I'll
say Taylor Swift great. I think I for one day
because I just think. You know, I went to see
her last year and it was the best concert going

(14:55):
experience of my life, right, Like, and I it's not
like I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan. I like, I
like her music. But you know, my daughters, my daughter's
at the time, they're now thirteen, but they were twelve
at the time, and they're all about Taylor and so
sing seeing that show is an amazing show, but also
seeing that show through their eyes and was incredible, and
more importantly, the crowd was so into it. Everything was

(15:17):
so amazing and the ability of somebody like Taylor Swift,
because I don't know if there's anyone else like this,
Like there were six year old girls and there were
eighty year old men, you know, in the audience, like
she spans, like everyone loves Taylor Swift. It's not like this,
like you go to you know, you go to one concert,

(15:38):
right and there's a very specific demographic.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
You got another concert, like it's.

Speaker 6 (15:41):
Like there's this you know, there's very specific fan base,
but like everyone's a fan of Taylor Swift and so
I don't know that's gonna Like I can't sing a lick.

Speaker 5 (15:51):
So being able to go out and sing and dance
for three and a half hours and have like eight
getting love eighty five thousand people like that'd be pretty cool,
I gotta be.

Speaker 6 (16:04):
So that would be pretty cool just to see what
it's like to be, you know, a celebrity at that
level as well, you know, and the private security and
that private jets and blah blah blah. And I think
one day that'd be fun.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Yeah, I am. I am such a Swiftie.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
I think she is just remarkable in every every sense
of the word. Iced coffee on a snowy day or
a hot coffee in a heat wave.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
Not a coffee guy, So I'll say I would say
in general, I'd prefer I would prefer ice icy drinks
on an icy day over hot drinks on.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
A hot day. So what keeps you doing coffee?

Speaker 6 (16:40):
I drink diet soda, which is no bad for you,
but I drink I drink caffeinated and carbonated soda.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Yeah, I mean, we all we all are drinking bad
things all the time, so so it doesn't matter. Matthew,
thank you so much for your time. I know how
busy you are and you're all over the place, so so, Jammies,
I encourage you to go follow Matthew Berry.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
He's got the great, great fantasy advice and you you're
a really fun follow. So I really appreciate your time
today at.

Speaker 5 (17:03):

Speaker 6 (17:05):

Fantasy Pople Happy Hour wherever you get podcasts.

Speaker 1 (17:10):

does it for another episode of Ricky's Ram Jam, presented
by Barefoot Wine. Can't wait to see you all at
Sofi under the lights to watch the Rams go four
in a row for Week ten against the Dolphins. I
am so excited, Jammies.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
You know what to do. Let's ram it.
