Speaker 1 (00:06):
Welcome back to another episode of Ricky's Rams Jam presented
by Barefoot Wine. I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving.
I was in Arizona visiting one of my friends and
we had a nice relaxing day watching football, just hanging out,
and we ran out of wine at one point, so
we went to the store and we got these Barefoot
(00:26):
mini mescato bottles that also had like peach in them.
They were like mini They were so good. We even
put some orange shoes in it and made like a
little peach billiny mimosa type thing.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Ten out of ten recommend.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
The Rams beat the Saints twenty one to fourteen in
New Orleans on Sunday to move to six and six.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
We're sitting at five hundred.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
NFL Network's Patrick claibhn will be joining me soon to
break down week thirteen and look ahead to week fourteen.
But first it's time for the coin toss. Matthew Stafford's
ears must have been ringing, because I think he's a jammy.
I think he's listening to the show because he did
sneak it a few times, not in the end zone,
but just overall, and there was this amazing SoundBite from
(01:07):
him after the game and take a listen to this. Yeah,
today I got the first sneak and Will Harris, their
safety as an old teammate of mine, was.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Like, you're still doing those and uh so, yeah, I guess.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I mean they work, so no, it was great. I
just leaned on the guys up front and they moved
a pile.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
So yeah, he is still doing it and it was
really fun to watch Okay coin toss. For this week,
Option one, Josh Allen and the Bills are coming to
so far, and we know that he is a prolific
runner and touchdown scorer.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
He had some insane touchdowns on Sunday Night.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Football last week. How about for Option one, we have
a huge Josh Allen stuff at the goal line. The
Rams defense has been great in the red zone all season.
How about they stop a Josh Allen touchdown. You may
have gotten engaged to Hailey Steinfeld, congrats on that. But
the Rams d we're gonna get a stuff in the
end zone. Option two a two two touchdown. We are
(02:01):
long overdue for a big explosive to two play.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I want to see that this weekend. So let me know.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Option one A Josh Allen goalline stuff or option two
A two to two touchdown Option two two two touchdown
option two. Right, I mean it's kind of magnificent.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
All right.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Joining me now is host and anchor for NFL Network.
Please welcome Patrick Clayban and Patrick. We were just talking
off air and I said, save it.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
So what did you say? My connection might have been
breaking up.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
I said, the Bills are coming to town and they're
gonna lose.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Ooh and what I'm just all right, talk me through
that before I even get to my questions.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Do you have that hunch?
Speaker 3 (02:44):
I have that hunch, and it's based on a problem
for the Buffalo Bills where the schedule has worked out
very well for Buffalo. They've caught a couple of teams
on the downswing. They're a good team. They're a very
good team. The issue is the Rams are a good
team as well, and they're at home. They've been through
a lot, had a lot of ups and downs. They're
still trying to figure out some things in the secondary.
They're not trying to figure out things in the past.
Rush to beat these guys. When I say these guys,
(03:07):
I'm talking about Herbo, I'm talking about Lamar. I'm talking
about Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford. You have to have dudes
they can get to the quarterback and can finish. The
Rams have multiple of these guys and young Fisk. Of
course Jared Verse with his game winning performance in the
super Dome. They have that. And then on the other side,
(03:27):
I think there are some vul vulnerabilities if I can
speak in the Bill's secondary where athletically sometimes things don't
necessarily work out, and what a time to go up
against Poka Nakua and Cooper Cup. I think this is
a spot where the Rams have had a lot of
surprising finish. Sometimes they've been on the surprising side, sometimes
(03:48):
they've been on the surprised side. I think they're on
the good side this one and one that's like who
picked this? I did? I did while I was talking
to Ricky on two.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
All right, yep, you heard it here.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
First, I'm going to clip this off and this is
going in the books. It was a tale of two
halves for the Rams against the Saints. Like Kyen had
a huge bounce back game. So you're talking about running
on the ground. You just mentioned Pooka and Cooper, but
what did you make of Kyron's response after a tough
day versus Philly, Well.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
It was just it was a weird opportunity for him
to respond, because he does that on fifteen carries right
and the start of the game. It's because we're you know,
we're doing the show on Game Day Live, and you
don't necessarily get to pay a whole lot of attention
to every single game. But I look up because it's
very difficult. And I think that's the reason a lot
of people comp both Blake and and k Is because
(04:39):
when they're standing there in their hunch position and all
you can see is a two, people literally can't tell
the difference. Yeah, but when he gets up, I'm seeing
the two and I'm seeing Korum, and I'm like, wait, Blake,
Orm's getting a ton of carries? Where is Kyroen? And
Kiren comes in and much like the rest of the
offense just gets ignited in the second half and it causes,
(04:59):
you know, people some consternation. Sean McGrady knows what he's doing.
It's like, well, well, run the ball, the old fashioned,
old school football man's game, right. It's like guys like Sean,
Sean's got this. He's in on this whole play calling thing,
and when the matchup works the right way and Matt's
able to make his checks the line of scrimmage, this
(05:20):
is what this is what this team can do. And yeah,
with all of the with all of the comps and
and all credit to play corn, I think it's gonna
be very good football player. People really contend to forget
how good Kyraen Williams is and how much he can
impact the game, and I think we're gonna see a
lot of them. And again a Rams win against the.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Bills the tail of two halves, I have a I
have a badge, I have credentials, Like I can't get
into the locker room at halftime. I would love to
be a fly on that wall because it seems like
if there's someone that makes adjustments and also like pumps
up this team to where they go in down six
at halftime and then come out and do what they do,
(06:01):
like I would love to hear Sean McVay at halftime
being like it would just be it would be amazing.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Well, I think because a whole lot of and with coaching,
especially when things are going bad, we hear these conversations
about trust, about belief and losing the locker room and
all those things. I really think the Sean McVay that
we get in the post game, the Sean McVay that
was openly, like very clearly considering not coaching, considering coming back,
going through that whole process, he shares with us, And
(06:31):
I really think Sean McVay goes into that locker room
at halftime is like, we got him, Here's here's what
we're gonna do. And everybody to a man believes in
that plan and how they're going to execute it. And
we see the results a week after week. Sometimes it
doesn't necessarily work, but in this game in New Orleans,
where the Rams have you know, a lot of positive memory,
it worked out. And that's honestly, like, that's why I believe, Like,
(06:55):
that's why I believe that they can go in there
and be this giant killer late in the season, because
we've seen so many to get so many of these guys,
especially the coach, do that late in seasons.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, how about the effort from the Rams O line.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
I mean, Rob haven't signed back this week, and it
looked like the Rams are finally healthy and once again
the season started off a little rocky because there were
so many rotating offensive linemens and you talk about, you know,
being cohesive and all that, but how much can of
a difference can this group make the rest of the
way the biggest difference.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
There's so many people tuned in on Thanksgiving to watch
a Green Bay Packers team really dismantle the Miami Dolphins
who came into so far and got to win. But
the Packers are one of these teams that have had
the same five out there for most of the season,
where there's teams like the Rams who have seen the
shuffle that you mentioned, guys going out coming back. We
don't know what Jonah Jackson's particular issue is trying to
(07:47):
figure out how they're going to utilize him up front.
But when it all works, you can see you can
see just the difference in this team and as long
as nine is clean, he can still do everything you
want a quarterback to do on the football field. And
it's it's just a very difficult thing for me to
look at the matchups right on this because Buffalo has
(08:09):
a solid offensive line. Of course they've gotten all world quarterback,
but to me, both teams kind of have issues in
the secondary and all credit to Amari Cooper and the
things that have done. Maybe, and hopefully Kean Coleman is
able to get back and be productive. But I just
don't know if the Bills receivers challenge this rams secondary
in the way that other other teams, that other players
(08:30):
have late this season.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Yeah, you alluded to it.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Jared Versus called game in New Orleans with a fourth
down pressure on Derek Carr. He leads all rookies with
fifty eight pressures this season. Can we just hang it
up and give him Defensive Rookie of the Year already?
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I think I think it's it's it depends on how
things go. As as my dogs are, they're currently there.
Mitchell stands they're trying to make a case because you
know they like to run around to the secondary and yeah, yeah,
but it's it depends on how people make these make
these decisions. Because Quinnon's been great, I think they've They've
(09:07):
both been very good. I think it's a similar situation
to what we saw at the Offensive Rookie of the
Year last year, where Pukah's doing all world things and CJ.
Stroud is having success that we haven't seen as a
rookie quarterback since Dak Prescott and so I you know,
being me, I would love to you know, saw that
thing and have so like both guys can be good,
Like right now we see this TJ. Watt Miles Garrett
(09:28):
thing and people in the AFC North are always itchy
at each other, like they can both be good, but
over one person gets the award. I really think it
comes down to late in the season, who has these
moments and if Jared Verse continues to do things like
win ball games, albeit the quarterback holding on with the
ball a little bit too long in that instance, but
(09:48):
if he makes those plays and has those moments, yeah
he can go ahead and sew it up.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, it's even funny, like I was looking at at
I don't even know if I'm supposed to say this,
but Vegas odds have come a cross my timelines just
looking of course, you know, just on Twitter and things.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
And even Brandon Fisk is.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Moving up the leaderboard too with the type of season
he's having. So when you talk about this frontline and
young defense, Kobe Turner is having a great season Byron Young,
like I really do think, especially you know, holding the
Saints and Alvin Kamara at only fourteen points in Week thirteen.
Hopefully they can do that against Cook and Josh Allen,
who's mobile when they come to SOFI on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Yeah, and it's a challenge and I think it's definitely
more of a moving target than Derek Carr was in
the Superdome. But you just you trust in the coverages
that they that they'll be able to get home and
kind of make plays. And there's a lot that goes
into those, you know, as far as Bradon Fisk, in
my opinion, in my eyes, had a touchdown on Sunday,
(10:49):
I know that was I know it was too good
of a play to kind of be erased. Fortunately, you know,
the video exists and it can be in a career highlight,
you know in eight to ten years and maye people
will forget that it didn't count, but that was that
was an incredible play. He's an incredible player.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
You know, you said it, more mobile than Derek Carr.
It's Josh Allen who's playing at an MVP level. Can
you slow this guy down?
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Like? How how can you do that?
Speaker 3 (11:18):
You limit the options and a lot of times we
see teams kind of scared to get upfield in the
pass rush because the quarterback will take off running. Truly,
I think that may be ultimately the way to go.
Just keep your coverage downfield, try to get a good
pass rush, you know, don't don't get crazy. You got
(11:39):
to stay in your lanes. But you have to try
to make plays. You can't. You can't be afraid of
Josh scrambling. And Josh will do it, but ultimately he
needs to utilize the options available to him because we've
seen it in the past and he's an All World player,
and you know, I don't. It's not like I'm saying that,
you know, it's too dangerous for the quarter That's definitely
(12:00):
not what I'm saying. But we've seen this Bills offense
rely on him running too much, especially in close games,
and he'll do the helicopters the goal line. We don't
see that. Yeah, I want to see both of these
guys ultimately be safe. You know, when it comes down
to a final game. I think that's that's a tough
situation because he's going to be going all out. But really, here,
(12:22):
you get upfield, you try to make the plays you've
made all season. Don't change what you do too much,
and just trust that that note and the offense are
going to get things going on the other side.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Yeah, bills are ten and two.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
I'm just most thankful that we don't have a snow
Angel game, and I'm thankful for Southern California because covering
that game, it looks beautiful on TV. But I was
very happy to be on my couch watch.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
And I will I will acknowledge my inherent bias as
a person from the southeastern United States. I don't I
don't like it, Ricky, Yeah, I don't like it. I
don't want to see guys like shuffling forward in a
game where everybody's only running in straight lines because if
they if they try to move, they'll fall down. I
don't think that's great product. And I know, like aesthetically like, yeah,
(13:07):
it's nice, but we can we can find city scapes.
I've got like a screen saver on my Apple TV
that has snow on it. I don't necessarily, yeah, I
don't necessarily need to see great athletes slipping and falling
and hurting themselves. That doesn't do anything for my enjoyment
of football. So yeah, yeah, SOFI Stadium in sunny Southern
California I'll take that every time.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah, you can't. You can't beat it.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, So Allan just set the record for most touchdowns
two hundred forty five, enfranchise history.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Hope to keep that number the same.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
On Sunday, So, Patrick, before I let you go, it's
time for the Ramjam, where I ask my guest the
same three questions every week. Describe your perfect day, start
to finish.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
My perfect day start to finish begins at like noon, No,
it's it's a it's at six point thirty. I got
an incredible eight hours of sleep. I go in. Everybody's
still asleep. I'm able to go get a workout in
either at the gym or in the garage. I come back,
huge breakfast magically appears. I don't know, like somebody has
called in. My wife isn't doing anything for this, Like
(14:09):
somebody has called in. It gives me like, hey, Patrick,
we appreciate I don't know something that you did in
twenty twenty three and gives me a breakfast. I eat that,
I go to sleep. I wake up. I have a smoothie.
I walk the dogs, play like catch with the kids.
They do. They start doing their homework and that's cool. Wow,
(14:30):
your kids are geniuses and then punch my third grade
math teacher just kidding, you know, perhaps like an opportunity
where some evil character from the real world is available
and I can help them, but I choose not to.
That would be nice. And then like you know, steak
(14:50):
a reasonable salad and an opportunity to sit by the
fireplace out in the back some of the best people
in the world, which are all my dear friends self included.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Oh I love that.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Yeah, nice full day of heart health and and hate.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
It sounds like, well, it's it's not hate, okay, it's
love for the people that those people harm all the time.
And to make it them safer, we could have we
can have some folks do less.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yeah, no, I shine me up. I will, I will.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I'll take the twelve hour ship. We can split it
off because I'm all in that. Which celebrity would you
like to switch lives for with one day?
Speaker 2 (15:28):
And why?
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Oh no, I I don't think I would switch lives. Okay,
this this is a tough one. I feel like if
I switch lives, I wouldn't, But if I had to,
I would switch lives with Dave Chappelle, which would get
me in the proximity of some of those people who
(15:49):
I don't necessarily want to have a great day, and
I could use that opportunity to make sure that they
don't have a great day's.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Yeah, I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Iced coffee on a snowy day, or hot coffee in
a heat wave.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Yeah, a heat wave. We just talked about the snow.
I'm not trying to do it. I've never had to
shovel rain off of my car. You know, it's where
I'm from. Snow completely incapacitates the entire ability to do anything.
So yeah, I've had weeks without power. Shout out to
the winter storm of ninety three. I'm not doing it again.
(16:24):
Give me. I'll be in the sauna with that coffee.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
All right, all right, forever fair Patrick, thank you so
much for hanging out. I play flag football with a
lot of RAMS employees. It's always funny. They like the
people see RAMS football on the you know, the docket,
and then it's like kids from ticketing or like partnerships
and like we have like a couple interns.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
But it's really fun.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
And last night we got to the field at Culver
City for our nine to thirty pm game, which I
am way too tired for that. But we all get
there and something happened. There was like a miscommunication where
there were just shutting off the lights, so the game
was canceled. So we're sitting there, We're in Culver and
the team, I'm like, let's go here. So I took
the team to the Cozy, one of our old haunts
(17:10):
when we when the NFL Network office was on Washington,
and they were very excited and amused by the clientele
at the Cozy at nine thirty on a Monday night.
But it was awesome, and it made me think of Wes,
of course, and and kind of all of our old
our old stopping ground back there.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
And every time I go over there, I realized, like
just how much things have changed and how much life
has changed since since we were all there. But you
stepped through those.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Doors, nothing just changed.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
It's twenty fifteen again.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Had a Yeah, he had a mystery shot that was
on sale for six dollars and it was a brown
paper bag with a question mark on it that you
had to buy first. And I was like trying to
explain to like some of these younger kids, like I'm like, no,
this is like really cool.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
We like it. It's like it's like a capsule. It's
like a time capsule.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
It's awesome alcoholism.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Yeah, so we played some more so it was it
was my joy to bring the next generation of Ram's
employees through the Cozy in last night.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
So shout out to that.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
And that's what we have. We have a responsibility to
share where we're from.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Yes, exactly.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Well, they're getting so much free press for this, I
guess you guys, if you're listening, check out the Cozy
and Culver City. Patrick, thank you so much for hanging out,
and I'm excited to hold you to your prediction for
this coming Sunday.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
It's it's locked in Ricky coming up on our game debut.
Cynthia and Gregor are gonna look at me like I'm insane. No,
I'm taking Rams. Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
There, he goes.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Thanks again for stopping by, Patrick, It's always great to
see you. That does it for this week's episode of
Ricky's Ram Jam, presented by Barefoot Wine. I can't wait
to see you all at Sofi Stadium for this huge.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Showdown against the Bills. All right, Jammie, you know what
to do. Let's ram it
