Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, wine and football aren't that different. Sure they're complex,
but enjoying them should be easy. You don't need to
worry about complex formations and flavor profiles or which wine
pairs with what all that matters is together. Barefoot Wine
and the Rams are easy to enjoy, So let's enjoy ourselves.
Barefoot Wine the official wine sponsor of the NFL. What
(00:24):
is Up, Jammies, Welcome back to another episode of Ricky's Ramjam,
presented by Barefoot Wine. After the Seahawks fell to the
Packers on Sunday night, the Rams currently sit atop the division. However,
there isn't too much time to celebrate because we still
have three more games to go and two of them
are division matchups. Here's a snippet from coach mcvay's presser
(00:45):
on Monday, when asked how it feels to wake up
in first place.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
It doesn't change anything that we've talked about for the
last handful of weeks. You know, unless this season ended today,
it's all just temporary, and you know, we've got to
continue to be one day at a time, one moment
at a time, in one game at a time, like
what we've been. I think it's a testament to the
group to be able to handle some of the things
that they've handled over the last few weeks. But all
(01:12):
of it is not relevant unless we continue to do
something about it. And the only thing that we can
do is have a great week of preparation against a
very challenging opponent who we have tremendous respect for.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
I couldn't have said it better myself, but there's a
reason why he's the head coach and I'm just the
RAMS podcast girl. All right. Joining me in a minute
to talk all things Rams is NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger.
But first it's time for the coin toss. Okay, Aaron
Rodgers and the Jets. Hmm okay? Option one, Rams defense
(01:45):
get three sacks. I want Aaron Rodgers to actually see
Aliens Option two a Cooper Cup and Puka Naku a touchdown.
I want them both in the end zone at Matt Life.
Let me know below what you want Option one or
Option two? All right? Joining me now is NFL Network
analyst Brian Baldinger. Baldy, Hello, how are you. How's it going?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
I'm good. I'm good, you know, I'm like everybody else.
I'm in the holiday spear with go like my tree up.
I'm trying to get some things wrapped and bought before
next week.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
And in trying to get ready for I don't know,
we're already week sixteen, whatever it is, I'm getting ready.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
It's crazy. Yeah, the grind doesn't stop, especially for you.
And you're famous, you know, for your bald these breakdowns,
And I've told you before we started recording how much
I love watching them, and I know the players do too.
As a former O lineman, how fun was it to
break down Kevin Dotson trucking through those forty nine ers
defenders last week?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Well, I couldn't wait to do it. I couldn't wait.
And that's a lineman's dream right there. You get knocked
down like that out of the same play. I mean,
if you get one, like you made the highlight reel,
you know, sometimes you have a little game you could
play in your group, but you get two, I mean
that puts you in the katy the hill. And in addition,
I mean Kevin had a great game too, and a
(03:04):
day where you know, the additions weren't very good to
throw it, you know, against a good front and some
good linebackers.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
It was an impressive day by Kevin. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
I love how you broke down the smile too. You
stop the film and slowed down. I think Kevin is
always such a smiley guy, which you wouldn't think by
by looking at him. So that was really fun. So
no sacks the last two weeks against Buffalo and San
fran How impressed are you with the way there's this
rams O line has been playing as of late.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Well, I mean it's it's you know, for you know,
they got to veil it back.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
They decided on Boat Limbert Center, so you know, took
a while.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Obviously, you go all the way back to the preseason.
Everybody knows.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
I mean they were really banged up and you know,
they were playing a bunch of gay you know. But
I feel like they got there five now and then
the tight ends and receivers and you know, and so
I feel like, whether it's protection or whether it's the run.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Game right now, I feel.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Like, you know, they've won four out of five, Stafford
has to throw an interception, you know, a while. I
feel like it's it's all coming together much like it
did last year at the right time.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, I mean, you said the run game Kien Williams
has been such a true workhorse. Twenty nine carries in
each of his last two games. Talk about how well
rounded of a back he is and also how he
is in you know, picking up blitzes and pressures.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Man, he's remarkable. I mean, having became a big fan
of Kyron last year when he really got healthy and
really you know, would get you know, Carrie carried the
run game a year ago like.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
He was just it was one game after another. I mean, Christian.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Mccaffreys leedle and rushing, but Kyron leedleleague and rushing yards
per game and over one hundred game and he's.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Just you know, I mean, he's just a workhorse.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
You know, he would thinkure because maybe his size, but
blizz pick up last week he was excellent. He's a
great receiver, he's a great teammate. But you know, in
those kind of conditions, it they called for the run game.
It's that sometimes how many yards run for a ran
for over hunter. But sometimes it's just the volume of
carries where he could really take the heat off of Stafford.
(05:10):
You could stay on schedule, you can make them respect
to run. He's just a commune in the offensive line
loves it a lot more if you're running it than
you are throwing it in some of these games, so
especially if I got like Nick Bosa is out there.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
So he's been impressive either.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
You know, I'm kind of nicknamed Satna Siren Tyrone because
that's what he does, you know, if it's such down
runs or shortyarded runs or first down runs, like he
is a special special player.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Yeah, he's a special special guy too. Monday Night, the
Rams do this in partnership with Salvation Army, sort of
like a shopping spree for kids in need. And we
go to Walmart and we have a gift card each
and we each have a kid. And I was talking
with Kyron there too, and I told him, you know,
I was like, oh, Kyen, like, you're on my family
Christmas card this year because there was a photo of
me and him at training camp during this big you know,
(06:00):
interview thing, and he was like, yeah, that's awesome. I'm
like so excited. He just is such a genuine guy,
so I love to see that. You know, he leads
the NFL with two hundred and eighty eight carries this season.
He's just he's awesome.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, Yeah, No, I mean that's a I mean, that's
the definition of workhorse back. You know, you've played fourteen games.
You got tory eighty carriers. I mean, you know you're
at twenty carries a game. That's that's about the most
anybody can really carry. I don't care if you're Derrick
Henry or you know sat Quan. That's that's about the
most that you can really handle without you know, breaking down.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
He's right at that limit right now. But but they
need him. I mean, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
You know, Blake has kind of picked it up a
little bit here of late, and so I think you
need too. But I think you are good hands in
the run game with Kyron is a main bat.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yeah, you talked about it earlier about you know, getting
in the in the holiday spirit and putting the tree
up and rapping presence. When when we talk about mister
December Matthew Stafford since joined the Rams, he is eleven
and one in December. What is it about him that
makes him so good when it counts most well, I.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Mean, he's been in the league a long time, so
he understands what his role is and he knows that mistakes,
especially in the game where no touchdowns are being scored,
mistakes are at a premium, So he knows he you know,
he's he's got to be good. But I think you know,
every season is different. Matt would tell you that, Sean
McVay would tell you that, most players would tell you
(07:27):
every year is different.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
You got to kind of figure it out.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
And you know, obviously they had the injuries to Cooper
and a pooka early on, injuries to the offensive line,
but I feel like they've gotten healthy at the right time.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
And I feel like even before he won the Super Bowl,
I think he knew that.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
You know, when you get to December and you're in
a playoff stretch, in a playoff hunt, that the quarterback
position you've got to play it at a premium. And
I think sometimes you use September is of New August.
This you know in these years because you don't play
in preseason and then you're trying to find a groove
and trying to figure out what your identity is going
(08:05):
to be.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
And you know, nobody knew that Puka could do what
he did last year.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Nobody knew that Kyron could do what he could do
last year at the start of the season.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
But you figured it out.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
And you know, look, I mean guys like two to
Atwell and DeMarcus Robinson has had big roles on this team.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
You know, Higbee isn't a part of it right now.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
He's always been a big part of this offense, So
the roles are just a little bit.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
And I think you know, Matt.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
I mean, I look, he's seen a lot of football,
He's seen a lot of big games, and I think
he knows that how important his role is if they
want to get to where they.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Want to get to.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, barring any setbacks too, Tyler Higbee may be playing,
which would be really exciting to see him back out there.
Since you know, the wildcard game of last season, you
tweeted about how good Kobe Turner has been in his
second year, Like, what has impressed you most about the conductor?
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Well, I mean, I know, I know who Kobe trains
within the offseason. You know, I know Pooty and you know,
I know he's worked on his hands and and some
of the things that you saw last week of his
two sacks.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
But more than that, I just think he understands blocking schemes.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Seeing that little transition between play action passes and a
pass recognizing screens.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
I think his overall recognition just keep got me.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
He had a great rookie season, but I think his
recognition has gotten a lot better. I mean he's almost
like a senior guy up there now, you know, with
you know, with the guys that they drafted, so, you know,
I mean in the second year, I think he had
a chance to kind of understand Aaron Donald's mentauty all
week long getting ready for games.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
That can't help it rub off on you. Then he
trains the right way, you know.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
I think that, you know, with Byron and him and
Jared and the group and Braydon, I mean, I think
it's probably the best young group of defensive linemen in the.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
League right now.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
And all of them have their sites and so I mean,
I just think they played really well together, and I
thought as the season went on, I thought they would
get better as a group.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I mean, let's talk for a second the one two
punch of Jared Vers and Branden Fisk. Are you surprised
at how easily they've been able to transition from college
to the NFL?
Speaker 4 (10:21):
A little bit?
Speaker 3 (10:22):
A little bit, I am, because that is it's such
a different game than what they did at Florida State
at that level.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
Although they played really.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Well together at Florida State Day, they ran a lot
of twist stunts and things together and so one fed
the other guy.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
So I saw that.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
You see the effort that both of them played with,
which is supreme. That helps you transition, no how hard
you have to play in this game. How the screen
game is the defensive lineman's game. They have to make
those plays, they have to transition, retrace their steps, chase
the ball. If here's a conditioning component to it, there's
(11:02):
a recondition component, because you know, the run game is
completely different at the NFL level than it is in college.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
It's so much more sophisticated and what teams do.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
So I think from no that standpoint, I am surprised
at how they don't seem to be as surprised. I mean,
if you just look at Aaron Donald was his rookie year.
He wasn't Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack was, Von Millier would
a lot of guys that weren't great the rookie years.
They took him a year to figure it out. And
I feel like these guys are ahead of.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
The curve right now.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, so let's look up, let's look forward to the Jets.
The Rams go to MetLife for Sunday's game. How does
this defense and this defense that has really come together,
especially in December, keep Aaron Rodgers and Devonte Adams in check.
I mean the Jets have they put a good game together.
I mean one hundred and thirty five yards and two
(11:56):
touchdowns for DeVonta Adams alone in the final four minutes
last week.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Yeah, he had nine catches for one hundred and ninety
eight yards. And you know, starting they're literally the first
play of the third quarter went to DeVante for first down,
and you can almost hear they're losing at halftime to Jacksonville.
Now you can almost hear the conversation with Aaron and
Tay going, look like, we're not gonna get beats. I'm
just gonna keep feeding. And you know, and he did
in every situation. He gave all the signals. You know,
(12:24):
I Hearry led the Jets and rushing last week. Hey, Joe,
he's been a lot better since the bye week. He's
moving a lot better. You know, he ran five scrambles
for forty five yards, three of them were first downs.
He's moving better right now. But you know, Garrett Wilson
is still their leading receiver.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I mean he's a guy. So I mean, look, they're playing,
but they should have easily could have won.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Going back to thanks the Thursday nine game against Houston,
they could have won every single game that they played, Simpson.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
They couldn't finish, You couldn't get off the field.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Their competitive he saws Farner hadn't had an interception forever.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
He finished the game with one last week.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
So you just have to anticipate that you're going to
get the best of Aaron Rodgers. He knows he's disappointed,
but I think he wants to play next year. He's
got a contract. You know, there's interviewing for general managers
right now. I'm sure Aaron wants to stay with Devatie Gert,
another young I'm sure he does.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
So.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
I mean, if I'm in a Rodgers, I want to
just put up the best possible games and the most
wins I possibly can and maybe play myself into a
another year with the Jets next year.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, Baldi, you're you're a thrill seeker. You know, you
shark dive, you win surf, you do it all. If
you had to pick someone on the Rams who would
be the most fun to shark dive week with in
the offseason of course, who who would you want a
shark tive with on the Rams?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
With Pooka fearless to me, Like, I feel like Puka
would be a guy that would be fearless diving into
shark infested waters on.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
The north shore of a walk.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Yeah, that would be That would be fun. He always
seems like he's he's down for a great time. I
love that. Okay, bald before I let.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
You row, He's got great hair like that flowing in
the water.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
It would be beautiful. I'm gonna give you three rapid
style questions, rapid fire before I let you go. Describe
your perfect day start to finish, Like what is a
Baldy dream day?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Well, like, I love Mondays because Mondays is like what's
behind door number one?
Speaker 4 (14:47):
You know, because I don't know what happened.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
I announced games will sunny, so I don't know what
happened in these games until I get to the film room.
So if my perfect day would be starting like at
six and just getting into these games and seeing what
really took place, who stood out, what decisions got made,
who's screwed up, like seeing that, but then breaking in
the afternoon for an hour and just jumping into the ocean,
(15:11):
which is right behind me right now, and just do
a little thrill seeking.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Take my little goat pro down there.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Maybe take a little gun with me, see if there's
any lobsters, any some rocks.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Or something, see if there was any big So doing.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
That to sort of recharge myself and then finish, you know,
for another eight hours in the film movement and eating
as much meat as I can since I'm a carnivore,
so like just all the great Ribby State that I.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Could get my hands on. I maybe watching it down
with a big, big bowl of you know, caberinet at
the end.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Ah, that sounds amazing. Count me in for that day.
Which celebrity would you like to switch lives with for
one day?
Speaker 4 (15:53):
And why best celebrity to switch?
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Who's living a It looks like Matt mccotty. He's having
a great life. Yeah, Like he's on sidelines you know,
of college football games, he's teaching cooking lessons, he's in Hollywood.
Matt looks like he's having a pretty good life. I
wouldn't I wouldn't id trading places.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Right there, all right, all right, all right, So an
iced coffee on a snowy day or a hot coffee
in a heat wave.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
I'm a black coffee drinker. I like it hot.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Although you know, I'll drink an ice coffee if somebody
puts it in front of me, but I'll take the
hot coffee on a hot day.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
I'll do that for sure.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah, Okay, Well I appreciate.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Yeah, yeah, well, being guy.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I love it. I love it, Baldy, thank you so
much for your insight. I know the Rams are looking
forward to, you know, the Jets game and then two
divisional games at home to end this this season. And
it's been a.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Fun West now, you know, Like I think the Rams have.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
As good chance as anybody, especially after what Green Bay
did in Seattle.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
So it looks why I open to me.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Yeah, I'm excited. I know that the Rams have their
heads down and we got to get to New York
this weekend. So I appreciate you stopping by and all
your insight as always my pleasure.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Thanks for having here and see.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
You there he goes. That does it for this week's
Ricky's Ram Jam. The Rams are hot and we continue
to Forge on the rams, head to the Meadowlands like
we talked about, and then we've got two final games
at home, so if you're able, make sure you can
get to Sofi. You're not gonna want to miss those games.
I am so excited. Okay, we'll catch up after the
Jets next week, but until then, you know what to do.
(17:38):
Let's ram it.
