Speaker 1 (00:02):
What's Up, Jammies.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Welcome back to another postseason edition of Ricky's Ram Jam,
presented by bare Foot Wine. I had a lot of
wine this weekend and it was super fun. The Rams
defeated the Vikings at home in Arizona in a thrilling
twenty seven to nine.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Game, and boy, oh boy, was it exciting.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
The thrills and chills from all that went into having
to move that game to State Farm Stadium. I just
can't put it into words how moving and impactful that was.
And to see the city come together this team, what
they all stood for, families, pets, the caravanning.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
I just it was so so.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Incredible to see Big Wit gave a pregame speech, Rachel
Platten saying fight song Live. Nine postseason sacks for a
Rams playoff record. It was an amazing game on and
off the field. I evacuated my house and drove to
Arizona on set and my parents flew up from Boston
and we just had the best time ever. I went
(01:04):
to the tailgate area. You guys showed up. It was
so wild and so fun. I felt like I was
at so far going through all the tailgates. It was
the energy people in their RAMS gear. I mean, people
were celebrating being able to watch this game, and it
was just I know, I sound like a broken record.
It was just so moving. It's hard to put into it.
(01:24):
It's hard to put into words. You guys really showed
up for the RAMS and for the city. It was great.
I'd love to play the official Jammy Andrew Whitworth as
of last week and season one. I believe he was
on two his pregame speech just so you can get
chills all over again.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
For the past week, our Los Angeles region has been
ravaged by catastrophic wildfires. Over one hundred and fifty thousand
people have been evacuated, Our friends and our neighbors have
lost homes, and entire communities have been devastated, and there's
(02:01):
still more work to do. The courage and bravery of
our firefighters and our first responders prove that real life
heroes live among us. But I believe in the people
of Los Angeles. We are strong. We will not be
defined by this devastation. We will rebuild LA hand in
(02:26):
hand together for as long as it takes, and whatever
it takes, we will build it together. Los Angeles. I
love you, We love you and we are with you.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Just absolutely amazing and inspiring. Okay, coming up to recap
the amazing game and look ahead to Philly is Red
Zone's own Scott hints It. I'm so excited for this.
We have a great show lined up for you, jammies.
But first we got to do the coin toss show hands,
put them up, put them up our common below. Hello,
if you picked the option for defensive points last week's
(03:03):
coin toss, how about that Jared Verse touchdown? Did you
have that on your bingo card? Oh my gosh, that
whole drive and the dive that he did, Like, I
just want to watch that in slow motion over and
over again. Okay, this week Option one a Puka Nakua touchdown.
Let's get him back in the end zone. I'm excited
to see that. And option two. The nine sacks are
(03:26):
going to be hard against this Eagles o line, one
of the best in the league. But how about a
pretty three? How about three sacks on Jalen Hurts. If
anyone can do it, it's this young hungry defense.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Joining me now is the perfect person to recap the
unbelievable win against the Vikings and look ahead to what
should be an epic divisional round matchup against the second
seeded Eagles, but it's the host of.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
NFL Red Zone.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
You know, we call Stafford mister December, but I've got
mister red Zone on the pod today, Scott.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
How are you.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I'm doing well, Erica. Good to see you, and I
hope you and yours are safe from what we've all
been going through in the Los Angeles area. I live
in the LA area. I'm in a safe spot. I
hope you and your family and friends are doing okay.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, it's been It's been a really incredibly tragic week,
but also uplifting at the same time. Like to see
communities come together has been super heartwarming.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
That's the thing that I try and tell my friends
who are not Los Angelinos here that have been reaching out,
and you know, they're watching the media reports around the country.
I'm like, LA does not often feel like community, right
just because of the size, the scope, the population. I
(04:47):
don't know if I've ever felt it. I've been here
for eight or nine years, living full time here. I've
ever felt it like this much community. And unfortunately, it
can take something tragic and devastating like this situation that
we're going through to bring people together. But if you're
looking for a glimmer of hope amidst a lot of
darkness and bad reports, I think that's it is that
(05:10):
people have been looking at each other with humanity and
trying to have each other's backs through this. And the
donation centers that have been like overflowing with clothing and
supplies and furniture and whatever else for people that have
lost their homes is really heartening to see. That's really something.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, it's been.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
It's been so special, and I think not that it
matters in the grand scheme of things, but when football
is more than football, like it really feels more impactful.
And that's why like this win and moving the Rams
house to Arizona and all the employees and the buses
(05:53):
and you know, Kelly Stafford has helped to charter buses
from fans and their caravanning people like it made that
win like even sweeter.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Yeah, I was going to I was going to go
to the game as a fan at SOFI, and when
it got moved, I couldn't arrange my schedule to get
out there, so I just watched it on TV. And
I'm sure you've me you were there, but I'm sure
that you've heard all the feedback. The television broadcast was remarkable.
(06:26):
First of all, our friends and colleagues over at ESPN,
I thought did a very tasteful job in balancing covering
a major playoff game with the backdrop of the fires
here in southern California. But the crowd at that game
and they called it out. I mean, Bucket Aikman had
it multiple times that they thought, okay, you know, Minnesota
(06:49):
was going to invade. The Skulls were so fired up
about this team, even though they were a wild card team,
and they keep and there were a lot of Vikings
fans there that was clear. But if you want to
talk about the Rams house moving down to State Farms Stadium,
they did a great job. And when it got when
the Rams were up and the Vikings were especially when
that pass rush was getting home on darn old time
(07:09):
and time again, you could have closed your eyes and thought,
that's SOFI Stadium going on now. And that's a testimony
to the Rams franchise, the infrastructure that had to be
put in place to move the game. Quite frankly, to
the Arizona Cardinals, to the Bidwell family and whatnot who
did some tremendous things to facilitate the change, but ultimately
(07:30):
to the Rams fans, whether or not they were Arizonas
who loved the Rams, that decided to buy tickets locally
or got in their cars and got in airplanes to
get down there. That was fun fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
It was.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
It was so fun to watch, but it was also
so fun to watch as like a football game. I
mean a fourteen and two team Vikings team, and you know,
everyone was like, oh, they had a rough showing against
the Lions, They're going to bounce back so hard against
this Rams team. I mean, when you talk about the
defensive scheme that Chris Shula put together, I mean put
(08:03):
into words, how impressive this defense while on Monday Night.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Well, especially with the youth up front. I'm sure you've
documented it through the season, but right, I mean, heck,
that front seven. I don't have the numbers in front
of me, but I got I gotta think the average
age is on the lower end. They're closer to twenty
than it is to thirty. A lot of talent there,
a lot of talent there, of course, but but young
(08:28):
guys getting after it. And then the scheme that had
I mean, let's just call it what it was. Darnold
was seeing ghosts man, he just I mean after the
pass rush got home, and it was it was pretty
much all four quarters that they applied that pressure to it.
He got after they got home on him early. I
don't think he knew what he was seeing. You know.
Is obviously his grip on the football wasn't as as
(08:51):
solid as it needed to be. But that bodes well
for the challenge that's coming up. Because as good as
a fourteen win Vikings team was, this Jalen Hurd Saquon
Barkley group is well, the Rams have seen it once
already and they're gonna have to come up with an
even better defensive performance this weekend to be able to
(09:16):
keep to keep moving on. But hey, like you said,
I don't know if I could, if I could really
categorize it. I mean, you had to stop a premier
player in the league in Justin Jefferson or at least
slowing down, and you had to confuse a what is
now a veteran quarterback even though Donald doesn't have you know,
(09:36):
the number of starts with his you know, his transitory
career that he's had in the last few years. Donald
had the best season of his life and when was
primed to play it in a in a you know,
really well, in a controlled environment and whatnot. They had
them on skates all day. It was really really impressive
to watch. And then of course it's complimentary football stafford
(09:59):
in the offense had to put up enough points where
where Minnesota had to speed up a little bit and
had to be thinking, okay, we got to make stuff happen,
and the Rams just they when they sensed that they
could slam the door, they did and that bodes well
for this weekend.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
I think, yeah, I was listening to the Athletic Football Show.
I think it's Robert may Show on the way home
from Arizona, and I think they were looking that the
Rams are the thirty second, like lowest in cap space
and the lower the cheapest, I guess is what you
could call it defense, which was super cool because you know,
(10:35):
the Aaron Donald who was in the building, really exciting
to see. But besides Jared Verse as a first round pick,
who you know, defensive rookie of the year in my opinion,
hands down, especially after that performance. But Les Snead and
his staff. You know you have Jared Vers, Braden Fist,
Kim Kitchens our kicker, Cardi Bolimmer, the sim the center,
(10:56):
Steve Avila Young. I could go on Pooka Davis Allen
who scored a touch on All of these guys are
drafted in the last two years and only one first pick.
I mean, these guys are making major contributions to this
team's success.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
And it's so.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Less need his flowers. Yes, I mean you want to
talk about you want to talk about a GM who
has ridden different waves and found success in different approaches
from the f these picks of three four years ago
to now. I will find talent right before the next
(11:35):
team finds talent, and they'll be contributors and contributors immediately
give less Need his flowers. And I would also venture
to say I know both men. I don't know them
super well, but Les and McVeigh a GM and head
coach simpotico situation. You do not often find that in
(11:56):
the NFL that it becomes more rare. And we see
at this time year with teams that didn't make the playoffs,
GM's going this way, head coaches going this way. This
guy's in the unemployment line. There's rumors that, oh, this
guy over here, you know, thought he was set up
to fail because this guy over here didn't draft well,
or this guy over here is not not putting the
(12:17):
groceries together the way that this guy drafted those two guys. Man,
they and I think they talk about it in public,
about the relationship they have, but it seems to be
real and the results seem to be playing out on
the field and have been since since the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Yeah, they are.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
They are in just such lockstep together. It's really cool
to watch. So you said it, you alluded to it.
Matthew Stafford and the offense. It was just really humming.
They got a fast start when they've struggled, you know,
in the first quarter to score in the you know
most I don't know, last five games, six games, even so,
it was really pivotal to start fast against Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
So it's a short week.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Okay, let's look ahead to Sunday, Scott, what do you
think the big challenge that this Eagles team will present?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
We are going to find out in the first quarter
how this game is likely to play out. Saquon Barkley
hung three hundred and what was it three hundred and
two yards, three hundred and three, three hundred and two
scrimmage yards with two p fifty five rushing and again
teams change. And that was week twelve, so it's it's
(13:26):
been a couple of months now, but we'll find out early.
Can they stop Saquon Barkley without committing the resources that
are going to make them vulnerable on the back side
to Devonte Smith and AJ Brown and the passing attack.
I mean it's a heck of a challenge. I mean,
look at this. I read this stat Maybe you've already
(13:47):
told your viewers this. The Rams beat a fourteen win
Vikings team. Well, now facing a fifteen win Philadelphia Eagles team.
When you consider the Eagles already have a playoff win, right,
no one has ever beaten fourteen plus win teams in
(14:08):
back to back playoff weekends. That's the stat I read
from NFL Media. And then get this not to look ahead,
because you can't count any chickens in playoff season. Should
they win this game, the Rams and let's just say
Detroit handles their business on Divisional weekend, here, the Rams
would face a sixteen win team, so they would go
(14:29):
from a fourteen win Vikings team to a fifteen win
Eagles team to what would be then a sixteen win
Lions team. And if if you want a dream, let's
say Chalk Holds in the AFC, Patrick Mahomes and the
Chiefs would be a seventeen win team counting their playoff wins.
(14:51):
I mean again, you can't just get to Philadelphia and
handle your business if you're the Rams. But I just
like to as someone who looks at the entire NFL
like I do on Redzy. I love to look at
storylines and what what could develop and what they could say.
And this was a you know, a Rams team that
won the division, but won it in the final two
weeks of the season when they you know, overtook the
(15:13):
rest of the NFC West and then and then locked
it up. But uh, the challenge laid before them is tremendous.
If you look at Stafford's record in January and February
games and Stafford's playoff records since since coming to the Rams,
I'm not sure I'd trust too many more quarterbacks in
(15:34):
this situation to be able to see the field distribute
the ball. The weapons are firing on all cylinders right now.
Cup looks great. Puka looks great. Kyron Williams is one
of the most underrated touchdown scorers in the NFL. I
don't think he gets his love nationally as he should.
It'll be fun to watch. I did before we jumped
(15:56):
on this on this podcast here. I did just do
a look up the forecast for Philadelphia not saying the
Ram Look at the Rams are an indoor Southern California team.
There's no two ways around that. And as we talk,
I'm not sure when people will be watching this, but
as we speak, we're about what five days out now
(16:17):
from the game. Uh fifty chance of snow and temperatures
freezing like right around right around low thirties, So that
could impact things a little bit. Even though you know
the Rams have played in the elements they I think
they'd be much more comfortable, certainly at home or certainly
in a domed or controlled environment. But it's it's going
(16:39):
to come down to physicality in January football, and it
should be fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
I'm so excited for this game, and even watching the
Eagles wildcard weekend too. Like I think that this team
has really improved exceptionally since Week twelve, and so this
defense is better equipped to slow down Saquon, like you said,
but also the way that that.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Kris Shula and I'm coming back to this.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
The offense was very, very impressive, and I'm super happy
with the performance against the Vikings, but this young defense
and the scheme that Krishula put together, with the way
that some of the corners were rushing the quarterback and
getting home, and like, I feel like they've been saving
sort of their best calling games for the playoffs. And
(17:27):
I'm really really excited for this rematch.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
It's good. I wanted to start right now after talking
with you. I know, I'm so so pumped up.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
I'm so pumped up.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
I bet you wish you were, you know, calling calling
the octoboxes because I'm feeling more defensive points coming here.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
I think it's going to be all over the field.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
Yeah, you know, people say that to me. In fact,
some fans even hit me up.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
And say, hey, where we'll lie on Instagram or something.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Yeah yeah, yeah, Well, I like everyone does realize that
there's only one playoff game and one window at one time,
and Uncle Scott likes to watch football instead of just
covering it constantly, So I will be planted on for
those who are watching this, not just listening to it.
That's that's my media wall right over there and in
my place here in Los Angeles. So five big screens,
(18:12):
not that you need five for the playoffs because there's
just one, but I'll have the game on the center
screen right there, and I will be plopped down on
this couch here enjoying it as a fan.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Okay, well, I'm waiting for the invite to mister red
Zone's watch party, because that's the Super Bowl parties at
your house if you're not in New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Right, No, I'll be in New Orleans. I'll be in
New Orleans no matter what. But no, with the five screens,
it's fun. It's great for college football. Quite frankly, obviously,
I am. I am indisposed on NFL Sundays, so I
don't have five NFL games up there at any given
time hosting red Zone, but college football, March madness, it's
it's really good for March Madness too, and different different times.
(18:52):
I love it. I'm a bachelor, so I didn't have
to ask permission for anyone to say, hey, can I
throw five seventy inch TVs or four fifties and a
seventy inch TV on the wall. It's fun.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
I like, yeah the cheat code? All right, Scott? Before
I let you go. Time for my ramjam, where I
asked my guest the same.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
I've heard about this, I've heard about this. Okay, hit me.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
All right, here we go. Describe your perfect day start
to finish, red.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Zone day or just a perfect day.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Your perfect day like the perfect Scott Hansen day.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Okay, okay, can I give you two? The perfect day
professionally is a loaded red zone Let's say seven games
in the early window, five games in the late window,
with kind of a double witching hour when all the
games are one possession in the fourth quarter and we're
just keeping our head on a swivel and taking you
to fantastic finish after fantastic finish. I love it. I
(19:45):
live for it. So does the NFL Red Zone staff
that's professionally. Personally, Once football season gets over, I'm a skier.
I like to snow ski, So get me on top
of a gorgeous mountain where there's no distractions, the air
is crisp. I'm not talking. I don't even have to
listen to anyone. I just I just get out there
(20:08):
in nature, completely unplug, get down the hill, get some speed,
and enjoy God's creation on a mountain. That's a perfect
day for me.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
That sounds my brother was just skiing in Big Sky,
Montana and they've got dumped on with snow and the
videos that he was sending. I was just like, Oh,
I got to get through football season, but I think
that might be like next on my list.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
Do it? Do it? Yeah, I'll be out. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Which celebrity would you like to switch lives for for
one day? And why?
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Well, now see, people would probably expect me to say,
like a football player, right, Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes
or Josh Allen or something. All Right, I'm gonna go
this is weird. I'm going to go elon Musk. And
it's not because of the money. It's not going to
be rich in the world. Well maybe it kind of is,
because if I was elon Musk for a day, I
(20:57):
would go back and I would tell my SpaceX boys,
put a seat in a seat belt in one of
these rockets. I want to hit the I want to
hit the outer atmosphere. I would literally be elon for
a day and I would say I want to go
into outer space.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Okay, okay, maybe be weird, but.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
I love adventure and that would be one that that
you couldn't get any other way. I don't think.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yeah, but what I mean, I'm no, I'm no scientist.
But but do you turn back to Scott Hansen at
the end of the day. So are you all of
a sudden Scott Hansen in a rocket later that day?
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Oh well, they's your question, So it's your rules.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
That's true, it's my hypothetical. I'm just thinking.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
I'm like, I mean, I want the memory afterwards. I
want to be able to come back to to you know,
Scott and tell all my buddies, you know, it was
unbelievable when you hit eight g's going, you know, up
to the sky and all that. Like I don't. I'm
kind of an adrenaline junkie with some fun things, so
I think that would be I was just going to say,
out of this world, but that would be the worst
(21:55):
one on earth.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
You get, you get the love it iced coffee on
a snowy day or a hot coffee in a heat wave.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
This one will blow your mind. Neither. No coffee is gross.
I hate it. It's water. It is dirt water, Ricky,
don't do it.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
You just get up and you're just Scott.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yeah. This is I got this from from uh, from
my dad, Dick Hanson, the late great Dick Hanson. This energy,
this heartbeat right here is on that yourral. I wake
up in the morning, I just need a shower and boom,
I'm off and running. Don't need don't need caffeine. I
tried coffee once. It's kind of a long story, but
(22:41):
I thought it was hot chocolate in a white styrofoam cup.
It was my teacher's coffee, which she liked, very strong
and black. It was like a snow day in Michigan
where I grew up, and I took the coffee and
it was coffee. I go it was like fourth grade,
and I was like, oh, that's coffee. How do people
drink this? I'm never gonna drink this and I never have.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Well, see, now we need to talk because there are ways.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
As you have a you know, a palate that has
gotten better and older and wiser with age, there's really
good ways to have coffee.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
I mean, yeah, I suppose you can make it into
one of these frothy sugar whipped cream swirl but like,
if I'm gonna do that, I'll do hot chocolate. Yeah.
Like no, And it's kind of a badge of honor
right now. I haven't even tried coffee. I haven't even
swifted in fifteen years, twenty years. Some occasionally people here
(23:38):
that I don't drink coffee, and they will try and
cajole me into con try this. This is a you know,
a half wrapped you know, double skim latte, vanilla swirl whatever,
and I'm like, no, I don't even want to know.
I'll do a milkshake if I need cold sugar. I'll
do a hot chocolate if I want warm sugar. Okay,
(23:59):
coffee dirt water. And I know this is so controversial.
This will probably go viral and people will kill me
for it. But yeah, that's that's my take and I'm
sticking to it.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
I'm clipping this off.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
And the Rams are gonna put you on the no
fly list because they're gonna be like, we gotta check
this guy out.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Something's not right. No, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Hey, Sean McVay would love this energy if it's natural,
if it didn't need it, you know, oh my gosh. Yeah,
if I was the last guy in the roster running
down the field on kickoff coverage. He would want this
kind of juice. I would hope he would.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
He would.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Scott, thank you so much for your time. It's so
good to see you and I'm looking you got me
hyped up for this game this weekend.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
I'm so let's go enjoy every second of it. Cover
it well. I know you always will, and uh, maybe
we'll see you in another week if they if the
w is keep coming.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
We'll see Thanks Scott, there he goes.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
I need another cup of coffee to keep my energy
up with that, Scott Hansen, mister red Zone, How cool
was that?
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Jammies.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Thank you so much for watching along For those that
made the trip to Arizona. For those that didn't but
was cheering on their couches or a family or hotels
wherever you may be in Los Angeles and beyond, I
hope you are still safe and sending you best wishes.
There are a lot of volunteer opportunities around the city.
I know the rams are doing some awesome, awesome, awesome
(25:15):
things that I'm excited to take part in this week
as well. And just sending all the love to my
Jammy's out there all right, short week, but you know
how we do on a short week, Rams, we feel good. Okay, Oh,
I'm so amped up. I will see you Sunday against
the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Let's ram it.
