In deze aflevering duiken we in de grootste sabotageactie op Europese bodem sinds de Koude Oorlog: de ontploffing van de Nord Stream-gaspijpleidingen in de Oostzee. Direct na de explosies wezen beschuldigende vingers naar Rusland, en ook de Verenigde Staten werden als mogelijke dader genoemd. Maar gaandeweg leidde steeds meer bewijs naar een heel andere plek: Oekraïne. Toch zwijgt het Westen hier publiekelijk over.
Hoe kon een relatief klein team, varend op een gehuurd zeiljacht, erin slagen om op tachtig meter diepte vier pijpleidingen op te blazen? Wat zegt deze operatie over de rol van Oekraïne in de hybride oorlogsvoering en over de manier waarop westerse inlichtingendiensten wegkijken als het om bondgenoten gaat?
We reconstrueren deze spectaculaire sabotage met onderzoeksjournalist Ben Meindertsma, die in Kyiv sprak met betrokkenen bij de actie. En we onderzoeken hoe nauw de samenwerking tussen westerse diensten en Oekraïne eigenlijk gaat, van geheime trainingen op Nederlandse bodem tot missies waarvan niemand officieel mag weten dat ze hebben plaatsgevonden.

The Brothers Ortiz is the story of two brothers–both successful, but in very different ways.
