Im Gespräch wirft Linder Wirtschaftskanzler Robert Habeck Ahnungslosigkeit in der Verteidigungspolitik vor. „Ich glaube, dass Robert Habeck nicht genau wusste, war er gefordert hat“, sagte er in Bezug auf dessen Forderungen, den Wehretat auf 3,5 Prozent zu erhöhen. »Er hat vorgeschlagen, dass wir, wenn ich es richtig sehe, mehr für die Verteidigung aufwenden als die USA«, kritisierte der ehemalige Finanzminister.
Lindner möchte den Etat ebenfalls erhöhen, nannte allerdings keine konkrete Zahl. Man müsse die jeweiligen NATO Commitments einhalten, die gegenwärtig bei zwei Prozent lägen. »Wir sind nach Lage der Dinge momentan oberhalb davon. Ich glaube, mit jedem Euro, den wir für Verteidigung einsetzen, könnten wir auch mehr Sicherheit erhalten.«
