Speaker 1 (00:08):
It's twenty six degrees in Jacksonville, it's four in London.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Is one degree on the isle of sky Chili? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
What temperature is it in Chile?
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Hey, this is still Talk, the official Jacksonville, Jankus UK
and Island podcast, presented by Gallagher.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I'm Jay Lawrence.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
In new addition, he is Key Ramsuran. Big show today,
always a big show, but big show today. Safety Andrew
Winger joins the podcast. Our friend Jason Bell was of
course coming up as per now this time last week, Key,
I was I was in shock.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, I was shocked. This week.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
I'm in shock, but for a very very different reason. Yeah,
thirty five six the Jags beat the LA Chargers. Key,
extraordinary wind. Talk about a bounce back.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
So yeah, absolutely, Sus is which team do we recognize?
Do we recognize the team that showed up against Houston
or do we recognize the team that showed up against
the Chargers, because those are two very different teams. Honestly,
week to week. I was thinking during that game, if
you showed someone who didn't know American football those two
(01:21):
games and said this is the same team, I don't
think they'd believe you.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I know which one I'm choosing to uh.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
One hyeah. That Charger's performance was unrecognizable compared to the
previous week.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Absolutely, and I think that what I really appreciated about
this game was there was there was two ways it
could have gone after that Texans defeat, which is you're
stewing the disappointment you don't quite come back from it,
you know, mentally maybe you're not there, or you can
use it to spur you on. And I mean this
was just that end that and a half. And what
(01:58):
was really great as well is that you can say
this is all about mentality, player mentality.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
And all of that.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
And obviously I do think that is a big thing
with this game, but also what a great feeling it
is to be like, well, Liam Cohen knew what he
was doing.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
There, so for me, you've just nailed it. So I
was thinking, well, what's the difference, because I'm just going
to say it this time last year, I feel that
the Jaguars go into that Chargers game and we lose
it again. This year, we bounce back, the team is
unrecognizable from the previous week. What's the difference? The difference
(02:34):
is Liam Cohen, what a difference he has made? To
how those players went into that game on Sunday. He's
changed the culture. He's changed the attitude. They gave everything
that they had to give. Rather than going into that
game feeling, oh, well, we lose to Houston, we're resigned
(02:55):
to the fact that we're not very good. That was
not the attitude that we saw on Sunday. The attitude was,
we are going to give everything that we have because
we've seen this season that they can perform, and that's
what they chose to do. They chose to give everything
in practice all week. You could see it and you
could read about it, how much players were putting in
(03:16):
that surely all comes from the head coach, don't you think.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Yeah, I think that there is. Well, that is why
that a head coach. I know it's gonna sound dumb.
That's why a head coach is a head coach. Yes,
because that's that's what they're there for. Because you can
have the best coordinator in the world, but they need
to step up and do different things. You know, they
need to play the role of almost director in a film.
They need to get the most out of all of that.
Exactly what I was thinking about. You can have an
(03:40):
amazing crew. You can have an amazing cast, you can
have amazing production designers, all of this thing, but none
of it comes together without Steven Spielberg, Christopher No, none
of it comes together without the director. You can have
the best best boy in a world. Do you ever
watched the credits and you see best Boy?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
And I'm like, I've been the best boy?
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Anyway?
Speaker 2 (04:02):
What were your best at at being me?
Speaker 4 (04:04):
As?
Speaker 1 (04:09):
The only negative in this in this game I can
think of is that Trevor Lawrence interception.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
But apart from that, hey, you know what we were.
I can live with one bad throw like that. That's
totally fine. One bad throat Traver the way he reacted
to the bad throw fantastic because look what you went
on to do.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
And I think that what it's a really great feeling,
but a really weird feeling is you know that you've
your team has done alright, and that you're going to
win the game. When the opposition put their backup quarterback in, yeah,
you know in the fourth quarter. In fact, in fact,
you're like, well, if you're going to put your backup
quarterback in, we'll put our back up quarterback in as well.
Thirty five six victory against a good LA Charges team.
(04:50):
Here's something that was you know, amazing as well. And
you know, the pass rush hasn't been exactly how they'd
have hoped it to be throughout this season, but they
really you know, went after justin her but they really
did a good job.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
In this game. And of course there was a record
key as well.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, we love to see it. I'm just going to say,
I know Jason's not here, but let's talk about last
week's predictions and who said that. Josh was. I mean,
it was always going to happen.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Was not about to say, you know what a completely
out of the blue.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
No one expected, no, dude. It's it's fantastic to see Josh.
Josh deserves it, man Like it hasn't been his best
couple of seasons, but that man and the work and
the hours that he has put in to this team.
You love to see it. Also, he's one of the
nicest people you'll ever see playing American football, so I
(05:42):
love it for him.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah, congratulations to Josh. Heines Allen.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
That the whole defensive line, the whole offensive line, like
that is a completely different performance to that game was
won in the trenches. We often say like, and you know,
Tony Basadi says it all the time, games are won
and lost in the trenches, and that's where it happened.
They won that game in the trenches on Sunday. It
was so you would say that they were so physical. Yeah, no,
(06:08):
of course it would, but it was so physical, man like,
they were so dominant. It was excellent.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
And you know, this wasn't a massive passing game really either.
It was a great rushing performance.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
They really took opportunity to Jason said early on in
the season, didn't he how important the running game would be?
And what it was like? Almost two hundred yards on
the ground, wasn't it on Sunday?
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
One hundred and ninety two yards?
Speaker 1 (06:32):
And I mean two touchdowns for travistyt and Junior bachhef
two and getting one as well, and Tremor Lawrence was yeah, yeah, yeah,
exactly getting one. So it's four touchdowns on the ground.
Nice to see Jacobe Meyers get into the game a
little bit more as well, six targets, five receptions.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
As well, coming up with touchdown.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, lovely, yeah exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
So overall I think we can say we're happy with
that game. Of course, when Jason comes in, we'll talk
a little bit more about it, and we'll talk about
the upcoming game against the Cardinals as well. Jake, can
I just say one thing we've talked about it almost
every week, which is penalties. Yes, I meant to say sorry,
Yes to carry out?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
How good? One penalty five yards? Excellent.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Let's say that I was watching the game and it
got to about halftime. I thought, what was different? Yes
about this game? Yes, it feels and then I was like,
this is cleaner. Yeah, this is just cleaner.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Cleaner is such a good word for it, dude.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Six and four still hold the number seven spot in
the AFC, of course, behind the Indianapolis Cults in the
AFC South, but yet to play the Colts. So it's
all to play for, really in the division, all to
play for in the division. We do have to mention
as well, because it is really annoying when you record
a podcast from a completely selfish point of view, It's
(07:55):
really annoying when you record a podcast and then about
three hours later some big news comes out and you're.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Like, Okay, too late to rerecord. That's annoying.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Because now Travis Hunter is out for this season of course,
we know he went on ir with a non contact
injury in training. He's now out for this season, of course,
disappointing for his rookie campaign. Disappointing not to get him
out on the field. Does look like though, key shouldn't
be any issue with him getting back with plenty of
(08:27):
time before next season, which is the most important thing.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Now.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
You always want to hear the word successful before the
word surgery, and that's what we heard. So, yes, disappointing
that he's out, but more importantly than anything, he's going
to be fine and he'll be back, I'm sure more
than his best.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, So we look forward to that and you know what,
actually it will be hopefully we'll be getting back some
other receivers over the next you know, a few weeks
as well. Obviously Brian Thomas Junior didn't play the last game.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Played a lot.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
There's a lot of players out and to perform like
we did on Sunday with that amount of players out,
actually the depth is there so that I think that
that next man up mentality is working. It's it's the
consistency and once we nail the consistency week to week,
(09:23):
this team can contend.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Of course, playoffs.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Playoffs insight, Baby, here we go on books insite. All right,
let's quarter.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Did you your third quarter?
Speaker 1 (09:37):
I'm knowing you you would have bought it in about
the second quarter of the first game of the season.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
To be fair, Jay, the truth is when it was
backup quarterback, because after what happened last week. If you remember,
I went to sleep at the end of the third
quarter last week thinking everything's fine, and then I woke up.
I watched the fourth quarter the next morning, so when
the backup quarterbacks went in, I didn't feel okay. I
still felt like, oh my goodness, this could go either way.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Just as a side note, I was looking at.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Not that even I was thinking about I'm thinking about
going or whatever, but I was looking at how much
tickets were to some Jags games, and I was looking
at Jackson Belle. No, this one was actually I was
looking in Tennessee because obviously Tennessee haven't got the best
record or whatever. There are Tennessee fans at the moment.
I suppose if you do fancy trip out to see
the Jags, go to Nashville seven quid.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Seven quid a ticket.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Wow, how many points have you got that you could
get a super cheap flight and you're spending.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Exactly. Do you know what, There's there's something in that.
There's something in that I can I can have a look.
All right, let's go over to Jason Bell, NFL pundit,
Jason Bell, let's talk all things. The winner, getst the
change of course, and we'll look forward to the next
game against Arizona.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
We have NFL pundit Jason Bell with us as always,
fresh off of NFL Espanya. Jason, how was it? How
do you say kick the field goal in Spanish?
Speaker 4 (11:06):
You know that's a level too high for my education.
I had a great time. It was amazing. Toward the city,
amazing architecture, great museums, great people. It was just a
good time. Had some great food. And then the game.
I mean that stadium, it was unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Looked amazing.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Yeah, walking in there and looking up you're like, this
is this is epic And especially I love when they're
just smack dab in the middle of the city like that.
So it was special. This is what the NFL is
all about. Wherever you go around the world to play,
it's a week long events and it's about the fans
and they didn't disappoint. I had a good time. I
can't wait to go back.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Do you want to rank it for NFL international venues
that you've been to? No?
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Man, But I like how you set me up. I mean,
you know, I mean everybody you know you want you
want to get yourself in trouble start ranking stuff. I'm
always gonna say.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Tell me what you hated about it that Jason.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I'll always tell you Ireland and the UK first, because
you know that that that's how I get down. But No,
it was cool, man, it was. It was. It was great.
I you know, people talked about that stadium. They were like,
wait till you get in there and check it out,
and they did not disappointment. It was it was cool.
I love the city too, I'll be honest. So it
(12:25):
was one of my top kind of visits and trips
and games because it was it was really cool.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
And you get to combine that with coming home. So
now you've got a flight back on Sunday, didn't you.
So I assume that maybe you got off the plane
and you saw that the Jacks had that victory against
the Chargers as well. Let's get into it. Let's say
we'll talk about Arizona. That your upcoming game in a second.
But first let's talk about that Chargers game. Where was
the game won?
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Remember last week we talked about what the coach had
to do, how he had to go back in there,
motivate these guys, get them ready to go, and that's
exactly what they did. They had their identity. I mean,
the run game was spectacular and it was shared right.
You had two to you had two I always mess
up his name man, Basil Twoton obviously in Trevor ETN.
(13:13):
And I loved how diverse the run game was. That
was the key. I loved the coaching on both sides
of the ball, and I feel like cutting back on
the penalties. This is what we talked about, and that
was key man. That's where the game was won. The basics,
the preparation, the detail, and the physicality.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Which Jacks player, are you going to give the game ball?
Speaker 4 (13:35):
I mean Josh heines Allen, then he set a record.
I mean you start setting records, you get the game ball, bro.
Plus they harassed, I mean they beat the heck out
of that offensive line of the Chargers, which was their weakness.
They went out there and dominated that and that's the key.
But you got to get to Josh eins hollen Man
coming off the edge.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
What was the key moment or the turning point that
we may have missed?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
You know, I was thinking of about this and I
kind of wanted to flip it towards a key person,
and that's Jakobe Myers.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Let's go Trevor.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Lawrence wants to throw the ball in between the numbers
with trust. He really does, and he's not scared to.
He needed a guy that was gonna go there and
get it done, and I feel like they might have
found that with the Kobe Myers. So I like his
addition to the team and what he's done, especially if
you're gonna run the ball, those linebackers are gonna step
(14:31):
up over the middle. You can throw in those voided zones.
You need somebody with some courage to go make it happen.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Well, what about what needs to improve?
Speaker 4 (14:41):
So I think they're gonna have to continue to be consistent. Right,
we got a bump, This worked out, Can they do
it again next week? I still want to see the
passing game get a little bit of rhythm, especially earlier
in the game, and always they can always continue to
improve in the red zone. So I think that that'll
be things they'll work on.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Well, let's move on to this week, and then how
do the Jags beat the Cardinals and get to seven
and four?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Stop the run, man to make Jacoby, I mean, make yeah,
Jacoby Brissett throw the ball, you know, I mean it
was record setting last week and they still lost. So
stop the run on defense, that'll be the key, making
one dimensional and then get after Jacoby. And if you
do that, keep the penalties down. So pressure and keep
the penalties down. I think you can walk away with
a win.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
But let's talk more about about that actually that game
in Arizona, and let's just touch upon what you just
said there because you know, me and Keith spoke about
it a little bit earlier. But one of the big,
the big things that the Jags have had to improve
on throughout this whole season, and you saw it in
that last game is penalties. How key is that moving
forward into this game against Arizona?
Speaker 6 (15:50):
Just keeping that consistency, it's everything because it's too hard
to win in this league. It's very easy to beat yourself,
and you do that with penalties. Actually, pre snap, post
snap is usually technique. You know you'll start to work
on those, but pre snap, these are all usually mental lapses.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
You gotta control that. And that discipline also allows you
to be consistent through the game because think about it,
if you're conditioned, if you're well prepared, you can play
discipline football, and you have to lean on that in
the later rounds, in the third and fourth quarter when
people start to get worreed down. So that's the key man.
I think what we've seen is they went back to
(16:30):
the lab and said, let's focus on ourselfs, let's work
on our detail, let's encourage our players. And the coaches
did that. Liam Cohen, I mean, he had beat up
the Chargers before running the ball when he was at
Tampa Bay. So he went in there and said, I
got y'all, just trust me and we can do this.
Same thing has to happen this week. They found a
(16:51):
way to fix things. And when you find a way
to fix things, especially with the penalties, it says one
thing about your coaching staff that their strategy the players
will follow and go out there and execute.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Jason, I'm really glad you've brought up Liam Cohen and
the coaching staff. There was one thing I wanted to
talk to you about, which is the play calling that
we saw on Sunday night against the Chargers that it
felt really creative.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
It felt like.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
For me, it was like the best play calling that
I'd seen from the Jaguars this season. But there was
one particular play that I wanted to talk to you about,
which was quite early on in the game. I think
it was the Jags first drive. Actually there's a fourth
and three and they decide to go for it. I'm wondering, like,
what's what's the thinking behind that? Because it's it's from
the forty one, it's fourth and three. Why are we
(17:38):
going for that rather than just planting there?
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Mentality and trust? I mean, right, you're coming off of
a week where you really have to instill confidence in
your team and you've told them all week you're confident. Hey,
I'm telling you we got this. If we just clean
this up, if we work on this, we we we. Now,
you get in a game and you don't make it
about we. You know you got to. You can talk
(18:03):
all that talk, but what's gonna happen in the battle. See,
those are key moments, and that's in the huddle. They're
saying it. Okay, he told us this man, you know,
coach said, this is it man, he trusts us. Let's
go do this, Let's make it happen. You rally behind
each other, and then when you make that play and
you get that confidence, well there you go. It sets
you up for success as you continue on your journey.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
I think mentality is such a I know it's like
a broad thing, but at the same time, you know,
when you look at consistent winners in the NFL, and
I'm talking about like Super Bowls here or contenders here,
there's that one thing that they always have in common,
you know. I think the Detroit Lions are a good example.
You know, one of the most consistent teams over the
last few years.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
What do they have?
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Well, they have a winning mentality. It's been it's been clear,
you know with that. And I think that if the
Jags are able to build on this and to have
make sure they got that winning mentality in the building.
I'm not saying they don't already, but to ensure ensure
build on it, then that is a real big step
in becoming a consistent team, is it, Jason?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Yeah. And the mentality comes through situations, right, you have
to be in a situation where you can formulate this
opinion about yourself and who you are as a team.
We were faced with this challenge. We overcame it. This
is our identity, this is our mentality. And a head
coach and a play caller is supposed to understand when
(19:28):
those circumstances happen and how you have to then show
your team and remind your team by the decisions you make.
And now as you grow as a team, you when
you're in those situations in a game, you don't tense up.
You've been there before. Everybody's come, everybody's cool. It's like, yeah,
(19:48):
we've done this, we're ready for this, let's go. And
you only get that with experience in the moment.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Absolutely. Okay, let's move on to the predictions. The mini
Trevor Lawrence figure eean is up for grabs. No one
predicted that, but we did all go through a Jags win.
So is Jason eight. J seven Key. You'll be glad
to know that you get the bonus point for the
closest score line, even if it was wildly inaccurate. You
said thirty five to thirty.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
And Josh Heines Allen to break the record, which we
didn't ask for and it was kind of obvious it
was going to happen. But still, you've got five points.
B the bonus point is yours. You are back in
the game. Kind of this week the Arizona Cardinals, J.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Bell, let's go with your prediction.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Twenty eight fourteen twenty boom wow, lovely whoa two scores?
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Okay, Now why are you going?
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Why are you going to? You know so so cavaliers
so confident.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
I feel like they just this is a turner point,
you know, and we need to see this to understand
that we're not on this roller coaster. We got to
get off this roller coaster, man, Like, this is the conversation, man,
who are we? Are we going to play down to
our competition? Are we bouncing back because everybody's against us?
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Like?
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Can we just go out and make it happen? And
be a bully? Be a bully every day? You know,
I don't pick you don't pick your day to be
a bully. Be a bully every day. I do not
condone this, by the way, there's no bully. We do
not condone bullying. Just to cl.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Like it.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
It was just a Jason's like a pharmaceutical in the
States may also course.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
I don't Jay Bell had had a phone call being like,
you just need to make sure that you don't get
yourself into legal troubles again again.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
You do it, don't you? Don't you do it? Don't you?
This is all just football talk for fun in between.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
The lines, but you do have a point in there,
just just to touch on that though quickly. And we
do hear about the NFL a lot, but it is
really true, is that the best teams they they might
just about be able to be other really good teams,
but they can destroy teams that they're are not as
good as them. And the Arizona Ardinals this is a
definite example of a team that they should be able
(22:03):
to beat.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Key based on the fact that it's unpredictable to know
which version of the Jags is going to show up.
I think we lose sixty five three.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Oh no, I'm joking.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I'm joking, of course.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Points I think I really like Jason's twenty eight to fourteen.
I think that's really good. I'm going to go with
to make it different, I'm going to go with another blowout.
Let's go thirty two, three.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Oh my goodness, why not?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I don't care about winning the prediction game, about being wild,
stupid and getting one right one week.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Let me tell you a very quick story that I
may have told you before, but a while ago, I
was working in this at this radio station and there
was one person there who was like, right, I'm doing
a marathon. If you if people like you know, guess
my marathon time, then you get a prize. Okay, So
what I did is I waited until last and I
just put the slowest time because.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
You don't know what's going to happen in a marathon,
do you.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Anyway, I won, So this is a good example where
you two have gone. So like Nat Jacks have got
there is all I need to do to get closest
is just have a tighter game.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
So what I'm going to go with twenty eight twenty five?
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Yeah, well, you know they could be up two scores
and then on the fourth quarter they make it even
you know, it kind of kind of comes back.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
So yeah, fourth quarters this season, I'm going to.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Be honest, Okay, I will see how we get on
j Bell, What's what's going on this week for you?
Have you got anything fun? And anything or you know, chilling.
After all the international games are done.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Now I'm head of to Chicago. Man, I go to Chicago.
We're going to do the game out there, and then
I am going to go from Chicago to Dallas for
the Thanksgiving game. So I'm on the road.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Fellas, no biggie, no biggie.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Have a Thanksgiving in the States, man, it's.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
Been a long time, you know, It'll be good. I
usually celebrated out here a couple of my friends from
the from the US. We have a cool little vibe.
But I'm going to be in Dallas, so I see
my agent and one of my teammates who I'm really
good friends with that lives out there. It'll be cool
to be like being with family. Be a good, good
good time. Yeah, be cool. All right?
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Just before you go, Jason, can we speaking to Andrew
Winger the safety of course for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shortly
two questions as a form of safety yourself, what should
I ask him?
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Do you reckon?
Speaker 4 (24:35):
First of all, I like how he came up through
the ranks a lot of special teams before he became
a starter, So ask him about his ability to really
communicate out there and keep everybody on the same page.
I mean, one thing about being a great special teamers
is how you relate to everybody on the team. You know,
doesn't matter what side of the ball you play on,
because everybody's out there together. And I think he does
(24:57):
a really good job verbally keeping everybody on the same page.
And just talk about those the skills he have with
that that he has with that, because that is underappreciated
at that position, you know, being able to just direct traffic.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
And the other thing I wanted to ask is what
can I drop in to make myself seem like really
knowledgeable about the safety position.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Really knowledgeable at the safety per But.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
You know to the point where you ask a question
and the person that you're interviewing is like, Wow, this guy,
this guy knows his stuff.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Yes, ask him about disguising. Ask him what's his what's
his go to disguise, Like whether he's making it look
like cover two, moving down, moving up, like as he
goes into that, you can talk about him understanding the timing.
(25:54):
It takes one great safety told me this, he said,
you know what works for me. I know how long
it's going to take me to get in the right place.
You know. So that's high level, bro. You might you
might want to chill out on that.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Do you know what? Do you know what it's going
to feel like?
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Though, Jason is you know sometimes like when you were abroad,
let's say in France, and then you build yourself up
to ask a question in French, and then you ask
it and then they reply, and then you realize that
you have no idea what they just said, so you
can reply.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
I got another one's easy.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
What's your favorite cheese?
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Now?
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Talk about talk about trusting the quarterback's eyes, like or
who fools him the most? You know that kind of
that's to get into that some guys. Some guys will
tell you exactly where they're going. Like you're like, oh
he looks or whatever he's doing, and other ones you'd
be like, oh man, they just they tricked me.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Have you had that situation where you've had to where
you've played then and when you've been almost second guessing yourself.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Yeah, it's gone both ways. Man. I remember playing against
Denver and I saw this. I was that corner, saw
it happen. I said, there's there's no way there throwing this,
and I hesitated a second and it became a breakup
instead of a little exception return for touchdown. And then
one time we were playing the Rams and this quarterback
Mark Bulger, He's looking at me on this post and
I'm like, oh my gosh, and I'm covering Tory Holt
(27:10):
and I'm like, it's going down. It is going down.
And I jumped and they double moved me. Then he
overthrew it. So it's all.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
You got that one, like.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Yeah, and he's staring at me like I'm and I'm thinking,
oh my god, it's happening like it was also motion.
It's everything gonna film the whole route. I'm like, you're
throwing it and it just they set me up.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
So yeah, that's a good one. That's a good one.
Sink of that.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Ja They know who to go after. They're like that
guy will believe.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Javel.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
All right, I'll have a good time over in the stakes.
We speak to us said, all right, fellas, all right,
let's welcome Andrew Winging to the podcast.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
So juwey I should say, how you doing, man?
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Good? How are you appreciate its good?
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (27:58):
No, man, it's it's it's it's just our it is
our honor. All right, let's get to it.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
I want to touch quickly upon the last game. I
know that you're like fully focused now and the game
against the Cards, but I'll focus on the last game
just really quickly. I want you to tell me your
highlight of that win against the Charges.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
I wouldn't say it was one particular play. I think
it was just the juice and the energy that everyone
played with. You know, we were obviously coming off a
tough loss the week before, and it's like, you know what,
it's reality. You got to accept it.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
For what it is and move on.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
The resilience we showed to put that behind us and
come out and just you know, go play with total
abandon and do it together and bring Jews. It was
that's kind of the culture of the team. And I
would say it was just the highlight is being that
that it was a culture win in terms of, like
I said, just the jewice, the energy, and that equated
to some really good outcomes. And it's fun when you're
(28:50):
in the fourth quarter and it's thirty five to six
and you're not in a one score game, sweating like crazy,
sweating bolt. That was nice that that actually was my
highlight now that I think about it.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
What happens when you when you get out on the
field and you realize, ah, they've benched, they've benched the quarterback.
Do you is there like a I feel like, okay,
we've got this. They've they've they've taken, they've resigned almost.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Well in a way. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (29:14):
But you know, me myself knowing that backups are the
guys you should honestly fear the most in this league
because they're they're sitting back, you know, hungry at the
bit in their NFL players too, So you've never really
kind of you know, take a playoff or anything like that.
But you definitely are like, okay, well, you know, I
think it's over at this point. But I know for
(29:35):
sure as a dB, when I see a backup come
in late in the game, I'm like, all right, I'm
gonna screw my job. I'm gonna go get a pick
or something.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
So that well, you touched you touched upon it a
moment ago. It was, you know, a week after a
tough loss. You know when it you can imagine kind
of you can go two ways after a tough loss,
can't you, Like you can be really down or you
can try and you know, you know, take that resilience
of the team. I imagine that that was a week in
(30:01):
which the leaders of the team really needed to step up.
I just want to know if you can tell me
about any of your teammates, maybe coaches, that made their
presence known in the week prior to that game.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Yeah. Everyone.
Speaker 7 (30:12):
I mean, it wasn't like one guy just came up
and went, you know, rah rah this, rah rah that.
But even even Coach Cohen came up to me because
you know, we had a lot of guys down in
the secondary, and he even challenged me as a leader
because you know, I'm not a captain, but I'm kind
of a you know, I'm a locker room kind of leader.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
I've been here a long time. Guys have respect for
what I say.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
So he challenged me even to get these young guys
on the same page and dialed in on the calls
and stuff.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
So I thought that was really cool of him.
Speaker 7 (30:38):
And you know, the resilience of the team goes to
the coach, and Coach Cohen this year has done an
amazing job of whether we've won or we've lost, He's
kept such an even keel and you know, kept the
perspective really good, and he's always given us good, you know,
mental training nuggets about how to persevere through this and that. So,
to be honest, it was him. You know, in years past,
(30:58):
I know, you know, we would have probably crumbled after
a loss like that and been like, oh, dang it,
you know, we you know, we have to win those games.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
But you know that happens. This is the NFL.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
So his leadership has been fantastic and it's trickled down
to everybody.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Well, I wanted to give a big shout out to
a colleague of yours, a teammate of yours, Josh heinz Allen,
who got that sack record. Can you tell me what
it's like to suit up alongside him every weekend.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
It's fantastic.
Speaker 7 (31:25):
You know, me and Josh are the last two guys
from the class of twenty nineteen. He was the first
pick and I was the undrafted probably last pick, so
it's super cool. He's one of my best friends on
the team outside of here as well, and we had
a good little party for him on Monday night after
that as well. So it's just super cool to see
a guy like that who you've been grinding with from
the jump and you know what he was like as
(31:46):
a rookie and to see him go from you know,
they put a lot of pressure on first round draft
picks and he's become everything and more.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
So I'm super happy for him.
Speaker 7 (31:56):
And he's just a better guy than he is a player,
So to see him get reward like that, it's super cool.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I mean, you just mentioned there you're an undrafted free
agent is stuck around in the league.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
I think it's fair to.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Say, you know, it's been a You've been with the
same team, but it's been a journey for you. You know,
actually a journey that loads of players that come into
two NFL teams that are in your position, well they
don't make I'm wondering how much you think about where
you've come from, you know, since you got picked up
by the Jags.
Speaker 7 (32:25):
Yeah, it's super cool just to think about it in retrospect,
just you know, it's God at the end of the day.
It really makes me put more into my faith of like, wow,
like he really brought me along and you know, move
mountains for me. So I'm just proud of of buying
into him and doing my thing and never you know,
never seeing myself as oh, you're an undrafted free agent, like,
(32:47):
oh this or that. I had the mentality of all right,
well you step on the grass, prove it to me,
and I, you know, I was. I even told one
of my coaches the other day, like I wanted to
get drafted. Obviously every kid wants to get drafted. But
we were talking about life lessons and it was like
me going undrafted was the best thing that could have
happened for me. It kind of woke me up, kind
of you know, got that fire back in my gut,
(33:09):
brought the dog out in me. So it was a blessing.
And here I am today and it's just super cool.
You just believe in yourself and go be a dog.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
So we have.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
A former NFL dB that's on the show every week,
Jason Bell. I asked him what I should be asking you.
He wants to know about your ability to communicate. How
are you able to keep everyone on the same page,
whether it's on you know, defense or special teams.
Speaker 7 (33:35):
Yeah, I, for whatever reason, the intangible of communication is
like what I do. It's like one of my It's
one of the things that I was just blessed with. Obviously,
anyone in my family would tell you I'm extremely loud,
So that's one key to it. But then just the
demonstrative just kind of you know, I love I studied
history growing up. I love, you know, warfare and studying
(33:59):
all that stuff. And I've always kind of seen myself
as you know, you know, a squad leader kind of
this or that, kind of getting guys lined up, and
for whatever reason, I'm just really good at that. And
and you know, guys when they're on the field with me,
for whatever reason, they you know, you just see them
every play just kind of sideye me, kind of look
at me like are we doing this? We're doing that,
and I just kind of get them, get them in
the right spot. And it's just like I said, it's
(34:21):
natural to me. So I think it's kind of a
calming effect to my boys out there.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
When you're all on the same page.
Speaker 7 (34:27):
It gets you out of your own head and here's
someone else barking.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
At you and telling you what to do.
Speaker 7 (34:31):
It kind of just focuses you in So that's I
don't know how I do it, but that's why I do.
I play a ton of call of duty in war zone,
so I'm sure the communication stems from that.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
So I mean, that's it. That's it. That's so, that's
what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Basically, you'd recommend anybody that wants to be an NFL
player get on war Zone.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
That's what you're saying.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Absolutely, I'm down, down to down, I'm pushing. I'm pushing.
Let's move left. You know, it's like, it's what you do.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Do you want to talk about QB eyes?
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Can you tell us about the difference in some quarterbacks
you've faced and how you've learned to trust your instincts
on whether you've learned to believe the eyes of a quarterback.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 7 (35:13):
You know, you play some quarterbacks who they're just gonna
stare things down and they don't really try to manipulate you.
And obviously those quarterbacks usually don't last very long. So
you get down the road, you know, you play the Herberts,
the mahomes Is, all those guys. You play Rogers. It's
like they're gonna look another way just to get you
(35:34):
to go somewhere to throw the ball to the complete
opposite way. So sometimes you got to buy into it
and sometimes you don't. It's just studying on a lot
of tape and kind of getting to read on them.
But once you get out there, you really don't have
time to think. So hopefully you studied enough, or hopefully
you just have the intuition to think he's looking you
off or he's not. So that's definitely a big thing.
But some of these guys are just so good at
(35:56):
you know, even mahomes like he does the no look
like it's become crazy. So you really just kind of
trust your rules and hope you make the right decision.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Do we.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Thanks so much? Good luck against the cars this weekend.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Beautiful, Thanks Jay, Thanks for having me Jay.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
What a lovely chat with Dewey Winger. He comes from
excellent stock. I am lucky enough to have met his
parents and now lovely, which explains why Dewey is also
so lovely.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
What sort of chat do his parents? How do you
have a nice conversation with them?
Speaker 3 (36:25):
They were as chatty as him, I will put it
that way.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
That's a good thing, all right?
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Then?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Okay, that was a good episode. That was nicer and
it's always better with the win.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Next game, of course, Arizona Cardinals in the in the desert.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
It doesert.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
It kind of is did you call it in the desert?
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Yeah, in a very different climate to Florida. Let's just
put it that way. Nine oh five on Sunday, UK.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
And Irish time. Of course, how are you watching.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
It, King?
Speaker 3 (37:02):
I will be watching it on my TV in the
cart but yeah, with one of my best friends who
is a Patriots fan.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
All right, well, I'm speeching, speeching a few days and of
course we'll have Jay Bell on from.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
From the United States.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
This has been a shooting sharp production for Jacksonville, Jaguars
UK and Ireland in partnership with Gallagher.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
We'll be back next week.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
H h
Speaker 4 (37:37):
H
