Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's twenty nine degrees in Jacksonville, sixteen in Woolwich, Arsenal
fifteen in Carnoustie. This is Teel Talk, the official Jacksonville Jaguars,
UK and Island podcast, presented by Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence.
No relation, that's ridiculous. No, I can go longer. I
(00:28):
could go longer today. I mean, look at a big show,
big show in so many different ways, huge, big showing,
so many different ways. We catch up with running back, breakout, start.
Actually you could say part of one of the best
units in football right now. Baisha Touton is on the podcast.
Jason Bell. Of course he's going to be breaking down
(00:48):
Monday Night Football, your four and one Jacksonville Jaguar's key
Ben the reigning AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs. Last time
the Jags were on Monday Night Football, it was not
so good. This wasn't great. This one a wild ride.
(01:08):
What a win? What a win, late late victory for
the Jags. Thirty one twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Jay, when we started this podcast, did you think at
any point you'd be saying you're four and one Jaguars?
Speaker 1 (01:19):
I did, But it is always tough to be four
and one any two. In fact, the Jags are four
and one right now. That means that they are that
is the best record that nobody has five and o.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
And the Jags haven't done it since two thousand and seven. Wow,
that is how well this team are doing this Season's
that's all like almost twenty years since the Jaguars have
been playing football at this level. That's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I mean, when you put it that way, it really is.
I would like to say thank you to all the
people who ruined the game for me. Waking up this
morning looking at my phone, I tried to how long
have you been? How long?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
If you've been watching the NFL, do not put your
phone on when you're going to wake up and watch
a game. Just don't switch your phone on.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
I didn't know. I didn't. I didn't have it on.
It was just it's just, you know, I wake up
and I checked the time, and it's just I saw
a text from somebody just like dude, it was it
was oh no, it wasn't. On flight mode. I saw
a text from somebody just saying, what a wild ending,
And I thought, I don't know what that means. Yeah,
I don't know what that means all I know is
there's going to be a wild ending. It's a wild ending.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
It was the most beautifully designed play I've ever seen
in my life. Who would have thought that falling over
twice would be part of the design.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Like I tell you what, here's here's a thing. Because
Jason is going to be on the show, Jason Bell,
It's going to be on the show in a second.
And I wonder if he's going to try and make
it seem like that was all designed, if it was
all if that was the plan all along for Trevor
Lawrence to to trip what get you know, actually he
gets stood on, doesn't he the right guard? I think
his steps on his toe, which means he falls over
(03:00):
and somehow it's still able to get in for the touchdown.
But so many different parts of this game that we're
going to be able to talk about with Jason, we
could talk about afterwards as well, But it's just one
bit that I want to speak about very very quickly,
and that is a ninety nine yard pick six key
from who else but Devin Lloyd. Honestly, I don't know
(03:21):
what he's evan for breakfast, but like it is just
it's beyond a joke. Now, isn't it like how many
interceptions it is?
Speaker 2 (03:27):
He's leading the league in interceptions. I think right now
he's been Defensive player of the month, Defensive Player of
the week. Yeah, Devin Lloyd is absolutely on fire. I
will say one thing about that play. As Devin Lloyd
is returning that ball ninety nine yards, it was the
slowest thing, Like it was like it slowed down. In
(03:52):
my mind, it was probably the slowest hundred yards I've
ever seen, And not because Devon was being slow, but
but just because it it was like so dramatic and
so tense. And I was like, I wonder if you
saying Bolt is watching this and thinking how is it like?
Because Usain Bolt would have recorded twelve adverts for washing
(04:13):
tablets at the time that Devon.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
That credit to Devin Lloyd because again, not only another interception,
but to run the whole length of the field, I
think he could be forgiven if he's then tiring out
towards the towards the end of it.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
And do you know what he read that play? He
read Patrick Mahomes on that pick. It was unbelievable. It's
a really good play to look at.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Actually, as an example of this is what Devin Lloyd was.
You can see what Devin Lloyd was thinking at this time,
but you can see what Patrick Mahomes was trying to
do what he didn't do because obviously, you know, Devin
Lloyd was able to read his eyes. I guess almost
read his intentions. It was a good example of a
great defensive play.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I read on ESPN that they were saying, actually, it
wasn't just that he read Patrick Mahomes, it was that
he It was that was playbook like. He he had
studied the tape and he knew the tape and was
able to read the play as like even before he
threw the ball, Devin Lloyd knew what was going to happen.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
There's one other thing I want to speak about really quickly,
before we introduced Jason, who of course was going to
have his own opinions of the game. And you know,
if you think that we're not hyped enough until Jason,
this wasn't a I don't want to like pretend that
this was an entirely smooth game in every single way.
And I don't want to proclaim also that the Kansas
City Chiefs were this unbeatable team, the Kansas City Chiefs
(05:33):
shot themselves in the foot in this game multiple times.
Just on that last series alone. You know from the
Jags when Harrison Bucker, you know, kicks the ball out
of bounds, which means that the Jags start at the
forty you know that started put in this year. There
was a pass interference call on that series as well.
(05:54):
But just because you get the opportunity doesn't mean that
you that team's necessarily taken advantage of that. You always
have to take advantage of these opportunities when they arise.
And I think that and by the way, this is
exactly obviously the same series where Trevor Lawrence trips. I'm
sure that Jason's going to speak about that as well.
That looked like to be that looked like it was
going to be a dead player and the Jags be
(06:15):
in a tough position. You've got to take advantage of
these in every single time. The Jags took advantage. Great
play as well in that last series to Brian Thomas
Junior as well, key Ah.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
That throw was absolutely perfect. What a throw, what a catch.
From the things that we've been talking about, which is
is Trevor performing at the level that we need him
to perform at is Brian Thomas Junior dropping too many balls?
That play For me was one of the moments where
I was like, we are not only repairing ourselves and
getting better, we're good. We are a good football team.
(06:48):
And things like that show it one thing right, and
I'm not going to release Parkinson it and talk about
media twisting stuff. A lot of the headlines are saying
Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
That is not the story.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
The story is that the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Kansas
City Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
That's a very good point. It's a very good point.
I think that that is that's down to the history
of isn't it the history of the Kansas City Chiefs
over the last five years? And you know, I get it,
I understand it, but I think that you are right.
I understand that it does feel a slightly disrespectful in
a way. I was watching it, so I didn't stay
up for it.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
I was, I was.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
I made good decisions and I went to bed with
a good book at nine point thirty and woke up
at five am to watch it this morning.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
I'm not good book A good book.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
So I was watching it this morning and I was thinking,
if I was a neutral and I didn't know who
the Kansas City Chiefs were, and I didn't know who
the Jacksonville Jaguars were, I would come away from that
being a Jacksonville Jaguars fan, because they looked better, particularly
in the second half.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
The first half was tricky.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
There was a particular play actually, Jay that I was
I don't know if we'll have time to get into it,
but there was a particular play in the second half
or I think everything turned round. But in that second half,
the Jags looked better.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
And if I didn't you tell us to play okay
it was.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
It was a second and eleven Jags on offense. Trevor
throws to Travis Hunter. Travis Hunter does one of his
double X taps. It's only a twelve yard game. There
were two things about it. One of them, it was
so significant to me because I really felt it was
Trevor shouting we're good, we're good, We're good. And the
(08:30):
confidence that he was shouting it with pre snap that
all of the offense listening to him. I was like,
oh my god, this this guy is leading this team.
They sound confident, they look confident, and then there was
that throw that moved from Travis. I was like that,
That for me is where the whole game changed was
(08:51):
on that play.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
You know, I think Travis Hunter, despite having all these
plaudits you know, in the off season, and that sometimes
comes with you know, often does comes with such difficulty
because so many people are expecting off the bat for
him to be you know, this this unbelievable player on
offense and defense. But over the last couple of weeks
on our fence, you've seen Travis Hunter. Granted he's not
(09:15):
necessarily getting ten, you know, ten receptions per game or anything,
but he's extending plays, not just by a yard or
two as well.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, progress after the catch is I mean, he's moved
when he's got the ball in his hands. His agility,
it's it's unreal.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Yeah, I completely agree. Look, I'm sure we might get
into a little bit anyway with Jason in a second
show if actually we introduced the man himself, mister hypeman, Jason.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Bell, Jason Bell, NFL pundit is with us again, Jason,
can you believe that your beloved Jaguars are four and
one this season?
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I can't just because I want to go. I want
to be a frontrunner. I always say in life, there's
a pivotal moment you look back on and you say,
this happened, and after that, this is what all played out.
And in football you need the same thing. And we
got it. We got it. We saw it prime time.
(10:21):
The pressure's on. You're playing against the best quarterback of
the generations, supposedly, and you come out with a victory
and your quarterback plays well. I mean Trevor Lawrence looked
like he did in college, running around like that, you know,
the way he used his legs. I always thought it
was spectacular, and he brought it to the party. Big
(10:42):
plays and big moments as a team and as a
player individually. When you're able to accomplish that and you
can build off that, that is when that changes everything.
I was gonna say that's when dynasties begin, but I'm
going a little.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
I'm moving.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
I'm moving to but I'm just saying, this is when
those moments occur and you're like, yo, this is when
it all started. And I think I just saw.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
It, Jason.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
I love Trevor's physicality. Sometimes I'm watching and I wish
he'd slide just every so often.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Please.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
So the thing about it is you have to know
when to do it, and it is a skill because
you see sometimes you see Josh Allen sometimes he puts
his shoulder down. Patrick Mahomes. You have to know the moment,
and this is true leadership. I'm glad you brought that up.
When your team needs a spark and you're running the ball,
not only is it pick up the first down, but
how did you do it? How did you will your
(11:39):
way to accomplish that. Everybody on the sideline is looking
and thinking, oh man, this guy, he's gonna make it
happen for us. So I need to be on my
game to make sure I don't mess it up because
I got to get the ball back in his hands
because he's going to make us. He's gonna will us
to victory. And so those hits he takes sometimes they
energize the sideline. That's a long way of getting there,
(12:02):
but I'm telling you it works.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Primetime, Primetime, Jbell. Do you think this changes things?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yeah, without a doubt, without a doubt changes things. Confidence
is real and each year you have to build it
as an individual and as a player. Do I have
what I think I thought I have? Am I who
I believe I can be. But you have to win
the moments in the game and the games. It has
to be difficult. You have to find a way to overcome.
(12:30):
When you do, you go to practice and you step
it up. You really those fine details. You're really trying
to sharpen them because you understand that's what got you
to the victory. That's when the situation was tough and
the odds were against you, and you bounce back. It's
because of how you prepared. But you have to see
the results and they did.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Okay, Jason, let's do this. We'll talk about the next week.
We'll talk about the Seahawks game in a moment, but
first let's talk about that victory. How was the game won?
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Well, it was won by MVP quarterback Trevor Lawrence in
my opinion, all the way he uses his legs, of
the plays he made, especially in that last drive. I mean,
come on, where do we evaluate quarterbacks? I always say
third down, two minute drives and in the red zone.
That's where I'm looking at you. What you're gonna do
on third down? What you doing in a two minute situation.
What are you doing in the red zone the man
(13:23):
came through, had to bounce back because of the fumble,
you know what I'm saying. And in the big turnover,
the pick six. Man, Oh my goodness, Oh Devin Lloyd,
what is going on? What is happening? My man? Whatever
you've done this offseason, tell me because I'm going to
repeat because it is greatness that you are bringing to
the table that play. Man. I mean, I know we
(13:45):
like talking about the turning points, so why we might
as well get there right I like talking about it
because the thing this play I was looking at is
over and over again. Play design was unbelievable. Everybody's at
the line of scrimmage looking like they're bringing pressure. Pat
Mahomes think his man and man everywhere. Devin Lloyd drops
back and you see the receiver coming in clear because
(14:06):
they set that up. They wanted him to see that,
and he robbed and took it away. Great play design,
great execution. I mean, without that play, we're not We're
not having this discussion right now. We are not having
this discussion. Complimentary football. You have. I talked about them
clogg in the middle of the field. That is a
no traffic zone. You are not driving in there without
(14:28):
getting seventeen tickets. And that's exactly what happened, because you
are not getting away in there. And they tried it again,
set them up. Game changing play.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Oh look, you got a bunch of people to choose from,
but you need to give me one. Who was Jack's MVP.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
I gotta go with Trevor. I gotta go. I gotta
with Trevor. I'm going with Trevor period. I mean, it
was his moment to shine. He had to outplay number
fifteen and he got the victory.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Did you think that the U that played that was
a play design? When he trips over, I don't care
what it was.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
It you know what. It showed athleticism and this is
what this is what they talked about him in college. Man,
he could run. Dude had wiggles and you saw that.
I mean the determination. God off, you see his face, man,
no panic, He's just like, I got to make this happen.
And they went crazy. The offensive line, man, they were
(15:22):
everybody so much enthusiasm over that play. Once again, your quarterback,
your leader, he touches the ball every down. Does he
show us he can provide a path to victory regardless.
That's what Trevor Lawrence did. What needs to improve missing
Trayvon Walker, Man, you could tell that right. You got
to get him back on the field. That'll be the key.
(15:45):
I think. You know, the explosive plays I saw felt
like it was a lack of communication that can be fixed.
And you cannot turn the ball over in the red zone.
It's just a no no. So these are all nitpicky things.
But you know I would go in and I would say, Hey,
the mistakes we made we can fix. You know, they're
(16:05):
on us. But we've shown our brand of football, how
we prepare, how the coaches have us ready to go.
We can go out there and make it happen as
long as we execute.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
All right, Well, let's look forward. Then, let's look forward
to the next game, the Seattle Seahawks three and two.
How did the Jags beat the Seahawks?
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Man, keep this formula up, man stingy defense, right, you
got to take away the explosive plays. JSN, Jackson Smith
and Jigbo. I mean, he can eat your life, so
you got to make sure you find a way to
contain him. I believe they can. This defense is vastly improved.
That'll be the key. And stay balanced on offense that's
working for you. It doesn't need to be every week.
(16:45):
You know, Trevor takeover. It's running the ball with eat
t in and when you have your opportunities, making those throws.
So that balance on offense is the key. Play a
little keep away right, sustaining long drives. But on defense,
keep everything in front of you and shut down the
explosive plays. That'll be the key.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
What's the one thing that you take from what Antimy
Companeta is introduced.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
I feel like they have a really good understanding of
route concepts. What do I mean? When you're playing zone
coverage and you are looking at the quarterback right, that's
how you get interceptions zone coverage because your eyes are
on the quarterback. But when you understand route concepts, meaning
well you've been talked throughout the week, Hey, this is
what they like to run. You can fill the space better.
(17:28):
You kind of know where to be, and if you
are a linebacker with awareness, you can make plays or
a safety or anything like that because you know in
between those numbers that's where the traffic is. And I
just feel like they got a really good understanding of
where the route concepts are with a bunch of guys
with ball skills. So they've been practicing their ball skills
(17:49):
and they have great awareness. And that's the key. It
is that simple. Someone has to teach it to you
and say, hey, this is where they like to go,
and then you have to drill over and over those
ball drills where you can capitalize on those opportunities. And
that's what I feel like is happening and occurring when
you look at the zone coverage they're playing.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Predictions from last week, j Bell, last week we all
went for a Jags win. Jason, your closest again, closest
to it is as if you played in the league. No,
just guessing, just guessing, yessing. I went twenty one twenty.
He went twenty three seventeen. So we all called a
close game. It was gast It was a ghost game. Yeah, Jason.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
And I'm going first this week because that's I'm gone. Okay,
because I mean, give me something. I gotta get some
kind of leverage, you know, I mean, well, the person
who was closest last week should not have to go
first again.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Okay, Well, Jason has seven points, I have six points.
Key has four points sounds about right. This week Seahawks
in Jacks four more points and I got last season
This week Seahawks in Jacksonville, six pm time on Sunday.
Or Jay Bell has said that he doesn't want to
(19:03):
go first. It's so key. We're looking at you. Twenty
one twenty two scores on defense. Wow, you don't have
to be specific. I don't asking why am I here?
Why am I here? And we've all asked it, Jay Bell,
go and give us, give us your prediction.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
So you got a West Coast team coming. They always struggle.
Let's go. I'm gonna go twenty eight twenty one Jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Hmmm, nice, Okay, I'm going more high scoring than both
of you. This Seattle Seahawks offense has been it's been good.
It's been good.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
You're going to faith in your defense.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I have faith. I have faith. I have faith, But
you know why not? I also think that you know,
it has to be said that there are a lot
of times when it's really tight, but then in the
last you know a few minutes, a couple of touchdowns,
you know what happens, and it just pushes the schools forward.
If we're just looking from a school line perspective. So
let's go with a nice thirty five thirty one to
(20:08):
the Jags.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Nice, that'll be fireworks.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
When I was younger and I worked a place I
used to work out, there was somebody that used to
that was doing a marathon, right, and she said, everybody
in the workplace just guess you know what time I'm
going to get the one that's closest wins whatever. Anyway,
So I just waited till the end and then just
did the slowest time. I won the whole thing. So
(20:33):
this is where it's at, I think in the future
with this, this is where you always go last on
these predictions. Then, Jay, Yeah, I just think that you
need to go last and you just need to do
just have it slightly more than the person before. Price
is right style, this price is right in it.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Yeah, you should be a day trader.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Okay, do you know what I might be now? Thanks?
Jay Bell, thank you? Before we go, Ja Bell one
London game in the book. So how did you enjoy
your your Vikings break experience on a Sunday?
Speaker 3 (21:01):
What a game? I mean coming down to that last drive,
you felt it in the stadium. Everybody was standing, everybody
was on their feet. I'm looking at it. I'm like,
this is amazing, this is fabulous. This is exactly why
the NFL is here. These fans love it, The crowd
was in it, the players were feeding off of it.
That's what it's all about. That's why this whole international
(21:25):
thing that started is because what we've done here in
the UK, showing that this game is global, because the
fans make it unique and they bring the energy, did
not disappoint players on the field didn't what a.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Game back to it this weekend as well. Jets Broncos.
Then I'm not even being subjective here. I'm going to
be objective when I say this the best London game
this season. Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams. It's going to
be a big, big couple weeks. Big, a couple of weeks, chasing.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Man big game. Jags do what they're supposed to do,
they could be one of the hottest teams in the NFL.
Everybody talking about it, looking at it and thinking this
team right here is dangerous. Watch out.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
I honestly think that that win against the Chiefs might
change things, not so much within the facility necessarily, but outside,
you know.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Within the facility, Jay, they have total belief, like this
is not a surprise to anyone that's in and around
that facility. It's how it's affecting everyone else in the league.
Everyone who's watching them, and people who aren't Jaguars Fans
watching the Jaguars are now starting to think, Man, this
team can ball.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
J Bell before you go, can you just give us
a nice little hypemaster J Bell on why if you're
a Jags fan and you haven't got your ticket yet
to Jags Rams, why you should consider, you know, getting one.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Let me take some about the NFL. The NFL is
about the precision, and when you have quarterbacks that can
deliver that, you have a spectacle that you do not
want to miss. And we understand Matthew Stafford has delivered
that throughout the years. But I want to introduce you
to the next wave, to the talent, to the man himself,
(23:20):
the flair, the hair for all of that. Trevor Lawrence.
Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence is ready to show the world
exactly who he is. Everybody already knows. Sometimes you need
to reintroduce yourself, as Jay Z's would say, and that's
exactly what Trevor has done. I'm here, I'm now, this
is home. You're welcome, Wimbley.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Sorry, Can I just point out no one wrote that
for Jason. He's literally just come up with that off
the top of it said, produce Simon, please calet me
put some music underneath that, because that's yes, I feel.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
I don't know what just happened, but I believe. Yeah,
I believe.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
I think that like you. That's the football equivalent of
speaking in tongues.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
I once went to a church in Harlem, and I
had more of a spiritual experience listening to you, Jason.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
I need I need the full story of their church
in Harlem, Lady, I need it.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
It was unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Yeah, I have Harlem. Harlam's a good place, wonderful.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Love it. Jason Bell, as I live and Brie, thank
you so much for coming on to talker see you
next week.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Was that possibly the most inspiring thing you've ever heard
from Jason Bell in your life?
Speaker 1 (24:38):
From anyone. I feel strange. I feel I just feel strange,
not in a bad way. Do you have friends that
you can talk to about this, because I feel like
I need to. I think you're that friend. You're the
only one that will understand. Yeah, he did a very
very good job of making me feel inspired, quite genuinely,
Like he doesn't. He does an amazing job of making
(25:00):
you feel hyped, and particularly about something that I don't
think you needed that much to make you feel hyped
about anyway in the game, So I think it's it's amazing. Anyway,
Let's move on to Duval dispatches, and thank you by
the way for entering the ballot. We had an unpreprecedented
number of entries, and all lucky winners have been informed
to go and watch the Jags practice when they're over,
(25:24):
of course, for that game in London. I do know
that some of the winners haven't been able to attend,
and it will go to the next email in the
random draw, so keep checking because it could be you.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Also.

That would be incredible.

a Jags branded beer mat to being with a chance
of winning a signed Jags jersey from one of our
top top stars. Here we go, Here we go, by
the way, here we go. Last week? Do you remember
last week when we were talking about the cocktails that
(27:14):
were going to be served and there was a jagger bomb?
There was there was a Jaggarta makes me feel weird
just saying it. Okay, so I have not read this next? Okay,
not read have You're not read it either. I'm not
looking at that. I'm just going to Yeah, so this
is from producer Simon. So any hate goes towards producer
Simon that. I can't believe they aren't serving Josh hind
(27:37):
beans on toast, it's not bad or Travis Hunter's chicken. No, no,
I don't like that one. No, I don't like that one.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Okay, what about this one? I just really wish Mac
and Cheese Jones was still on the roster. I mean,
they've got a laugh out of me.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Yeah, I think jag We'll just with the Jaga bombs?
Should we just stick with the Jagabonds?
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Wait here we go. He's got more. Okay, he's got
more of this. You can have beer on tap or
in bottles, and the Greenwood Sports Bark does have two
to three options.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yeahs by far the best.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
That was good. Lots going up during the build up
to game day as well, which will update you on
next week, but arrive early and stay late. Basically, it's
the message from JAG's HQ and in case you missed it,
make sure you're head over to Jaguar's UK YouTube for
a I don't know how to put this a punt
return lesson. I think it's fair to say key between Reese,
(28:40):
between Parker Washington as well. Parker. I'm not saying that
he's getting impatient with with Reese, but he's really trying
to explain it and this is just all new information
to Reese, isn't it. Do you know what?
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Parker definitely has a future in coaching because he took
something that I thought was never going to happen and
made it happen.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah, exactly. I'm giving all the credit to Parker and
non to Rees, nun to Rease, nun Ties whatsoeverally moves
him into the position. But what's really interesting is he
talks about the flight of the ball, because you kind
of think a lot like ball goes up, ball comes down. No,
it is far more nuanced than that, and Parker Washington
does a really great job.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
So the speed that the ball is traveling, Yeah, it's
a fascinating watch. Yeh.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Head over to Jaguar's UK YouTube right now to watch that.
Thinking about Parker Washington, actually, there was that interception, that
Trevor Lawrence interception in that game against the Kansas City Chiefs,
which that should not That was not an interception one
percent pass interference. The Chiefs defender goes straight into Parker
Washington just takes him out.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
There's no way that should have been called. No, I mean,
that's absolutely true. But we've talked about it before, Jay,
Sometimes calls are going to go your way and sometimes
they're not going to go your way. I honestly believe that,
and I also think it depends which team you're playing.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
But let's let's not get into the politics of.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
The enf well, right, But I think by the end
of the season, all of these things work out. Yes,
I personally believe that was past interference. Parker Washington basically
gets taken out and it shouldn't have been an interception.
But in the same game, Parker Washington catches a be
beautiful catch, beautiful throw from Trevor Lawrence for the touchdown. Well,
(30:20):
I mean he had an active game.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
He did, and he's really proving himself to be exactly
what I think a lot of Jacks fans thought he
would be coming into this season as well, which is
a vital member of the wide receiving unit. One of
the units that we've spoken about every single podcast so
far this season quite rightly as well, is that running
back room. Another example I think of what coach Cohen
(30:50):
has done this season, which is relying on the running
back game, which then gives you more opportunity to take
shots downfield with the like Sir Brian Thomas Junior, with
the like of you know, Parker Washington as well. So
again another day of another game where we saw Travis Heten,
you know, get handed the ball a lot, and a
man that has come into this squad this season as well,
(31:14):
Bacial Tutano, I think has really proved to be an asset.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Monday night was really interesting because the running game wasn't
as effective as it has been in previous games. In fact,
Trevor Lawrence was leading Russia on Monday Night.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Well, yeah, I mean that goes back to what we
said about with Jason A little bit earlier on. Isn't
it that he made use of his legs? Didn't?
Speaker 2 (31:35):
But I also think what that shows is how much
the Chiefs will have been focusing on the Jaguars running
game because it's been so effective, and to be able
to then be able to switch and pivot to the
passing game, I thought, superbman.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Well let's get into it, shall we. A man that
I caught up with the other day, Bacial Tuton, lovely man.
Let's hear it from him, all right, welcoming to to
talk for the first time base show too. And how's
it going man? How you doing?
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I'm doing pretty good, it's not it's going well right now?
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Yeah, good man? Good look. I mean you're new to
the Jags, you're new to the NFL, I suppose as well,
you know, and of course your first time on the
podcast as well, So it's getting to know you next
few minutes, if that's okay with you? First of all,
how's NFL life? Is it what you thought it would be?
Speaker 5 (32:26):
It is what I thought so far. That's all good.
It's gone. It's gone great so far, so just got
to keep it up. But over our experience so far
is amazing.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Let's go back to the beginning, shall we. Let's go
back all the way. Let's go back to New Jersey baseel.
We're going back to New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia
Tech at school, and of course you're in Jacksonville right now.
Some different sort of places there. You know, what does
Jacksonville compare to the rest of them?
Speaker 4 (32:52):
I think I think there are pretty similar in a way.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Virginia is in its own category because that's a little
different though. You know out the way and you know
a lot of hills and mountains and stuff. But I say, Jersey,
North Carolina, Jacksonville, they're all kind of the same thing.
I stay up in Saint John's County, so it's pretty
laid back out there, pretty nice. Same thing I can
say about North Carolina and Tea and you know, New Jersey.
(33:18):
It's like a little it's not a city vibe, but
it's like a it's pretty active.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
What is what's the New Jersey beach compared to a
Jacksonville beach?
Speaker 4 (33:28):
I say, Jersey Beach is much more active, it's a
lot more trouble, But I think.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
Jacksonville Beach is definitely hotter, for sure. Once then I
haven't been back.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
You know, you know, you know hot, we other kind
of guy.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
I like it, but.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
I get I get hot real quick. So I get hot,
start sweating. When I start sweating, I get you know,
irritated a little bit.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
So well, look, it's been a whirlwind five. I think
it's fair to say because obviously you go from playing
in college and you're getting ready for the combine to
combine and you get ready for the draft draft and
you know, of course you got everything that comes with
being a rookie in the in the NFL as well.
Just take me back to when you were drafted, because
I'm assuming this is something that you know you were,
(34:13):
you know, you do the dream of done. You can
you tell me, you know where you were, who you
were with, and what was the reaction you know? After that,
I was so I was back at school at Virginia.
I was at the house.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
There had you know, my intermediate family, my parents, sisters,
I had some coaches and some of the staff from
Virginia Tech. There some friends, but it was a small gathering,
not too many people, but you know we all was
there the people that meant the most of me. Basically
we were all there, you know, just waiting and then
(34:45):
you know when my when I got the phone call
and then see my name up on the screen.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
I definitely a dream come true.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
I worked, you know hard, my whole life, you know,
to bumps and bruises, you know, fractures and good times
that you know, all it all finally paid off and
you know, I get to take the the next step
into you know, the pro level of football, and you know,
just being on the big screens, you know, at the
highest level in competing.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
It definitely definitely was a master on for me.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
There's the phrase, isn't there there's the welcome to the
NFL moment if you felt like you've had yours yet.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
I wasn't that haading yet. I'm not looking forward to it,
but I don't think I had one yet.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Let's go back actually a few weeks so after Week one,
Tank Big Spy he gets traded. Of course, running back,
he gets traded to the Eagles. I want to know
how that felt for you, because you know, in that instance,
I imagined that there was a lot of confidence putting
you there, that the organization really trusted you to step
(35:43):
into a role that Tank Big Spy was operating before.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Later at night, I saw it on social media and
then I mean I called TJ, I called you know,
a couple of the guys just to you know, ask
around and be nosy in a sense. But just you know,
hearing that and seeing that and the organization doing it,
it just shows how much they believe in me.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
And you know, I was ready for from the jump.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
When I saw it, I was like, there's my time
to go, Like, you know, let's work, let's let's get
to it. Let's bar It all worked out for him
and for us, so we're in a good spot.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Does this sort of get you like hyped? Do you
sort of you sort of feel it like within you like, okay,
all right, this is this is my time.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Yeah, I definitely did. I had that sensation, that feeling,
and it just it just backed by you know, it's
a large, huge decision for the coaches to make on
a rookie coming in like that, but just the confidence
that they you know, and that they showed in me
was definitely a booster for me.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
You know, I mentioned the you getting drafted and how
you dreamed about you know, every player, I imagine, you know,
dreams about getting drafted, but you know what else they
dream about scoring their first touchdown. I mean, you know
against the Texans rivalry of course as well. Took me
through that, you know, it taught me through how you
felt when you when you got that touchdown.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
I felt great, Uh the first one. Uh, you know
I scored in preseason, so okay, all right, okay, I
got the feeling of it. I got the feeling of it,
but you know, doing it regular season was much more better.
It meant a lot more to me just to go
out there, you know, uh in the end season and
you know, get out there and get a score early.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
It definitely meant a lot to me to help the
team win.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
I mean, the running game is on fire. This is
the start of your NFL career. You can't you can't
really ask for more. What's the what's the secrets you
think the first few games of the season to why
you guys are you know operating so efficiently.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
I don't think it's a secret. It's just we're going
out there and grinding, and we started in practice. You know,
the old line, the tight ends, the wide receivers, the
running backs, we're all doing our part to you know,
be successful in the run game. Coach Cohn, and he
preaches that we have to run the ball, and I
think we come out day in and day out and
you know, accomplish that in practice and you know, going
out there Sunday is a definitely showing the game.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
It's like, I'm working with coach Cohen.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
That's amazing.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
He's a he's a cool do you know he could
be playful, but he could be hard on you or too.
Speaker 4 (38:02):
He's always looking to coach you. So I like him.
I like what he has going on in the culture
he's bringing.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
You know, so many different coaches can come at it
from you know, different ways. Some, as you say, can
be hard, some can come out of it as working,
you know, softer towards players. What do you think the
coach Cohen does in relation to that.
Speaker 5 (38:23):
I think he does both, and I think that that's
what makes it effective because he can, you know, if
you mess up, you know, he can jump on you
about it, or he can pull you to the side
and tell you with the fix and how to fix it.
So I think he has both approaches and I think
he used them, you know pretty well.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
And what about you know, being alongside Travis at and junior.
He's a stormer of a year so far for him.
You know, what's it like being in the room with him?
Speaker 5 (38:48):
That's great. He's you know, a fifty year vet. He
has a lot of knowledge playing in the NFL. So
just trying to you know, pick his brain and you know,
be next to him and hear what he has to
say and what he's seeing on the field definitely helps lot.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Do you know that he's a big fan of prawn
cocktail crisps? No idea, it's honestly bring it up with him.
Bringing up with him it would be something I imagine
he's looking forward to coming when he you know, comes
over to London. In fact, let's talk. Let's talk London. Now,
how are you feeling about coming over?
Speaker 5 (39:17):
I'm excited. I've never been, so it's the first for me.
So I'm just I hear a lot of good things,
so I'm just looking forward to the trip.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Is I mean, obviously you're coming, You're coming for the game.
It's a you're coming for the win. But is there
anything in particular that you want to do when you're
out here, anything you're excited for?
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Really?
Speaker 4 (39:35):
Just sight seeing?
Speaker 5 (39:35):
You know, going out you know, we got some free
time there, so you know, just going out sight seeing,
see what's around the area and how the layout is
out there. You know, I only see it on movies,
so see it in person, take some pictures. That's what
I'm most looking forward to.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Have you done much traveling before.
Speaker 5 (39:51):
No, the only big trip I took with Jamaica on
a fourth of July just past that was the first
time actually taking a real trip.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Okay, well, you know coming over to London, it's going
to be well, I'll be different to Jamaica. I can
promise you that. I could promise you it'll be different to Jamaica.
Did your teammates speak about the trip March? Do they
tell you you know what it's going to be like
over here?
Speaker 4 (40:11):
They what I've been hearing so far as is gonna
be fun. They always like it.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
That's that's been the proach that I've been hearing day
in and day out. So they can't wait for They
said it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
So they want to show us.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
And you're going to experience a different kind of crowd
as well. You're going to experience an English crowd.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Do you know what?
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Do you know what that's going to be like.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
You got any any ideas, no clue.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Look as it is your first time on the podcast
base where I was wondering if we could do a
getting to know you quiz? Does that sound okay to you?
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Okay? First of all things that you enjoy most in
the world outside of a football, my.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Dogs, playing the game, watching movies, slash TV, laying in bed.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
I mean, you've got two of my favorite things there.
You mentioned the dog you got laying in bed? What's
your what's the dog called?
Speaker 4 (41:01):
I have three? Their names is Sage, Royal and Zara.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Some good names. Tell me about your favorite film.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
It has to be Den of Thieves the first one.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Okay, pretty good action pact.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
What about the song that you listen to right before
a game?
Speaker 4 (41:17):
I say it have to be Long Journey by RAWI.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
What is it about that song that gets you that
gets you pumped.
Speaker 5 (41:24):
Just talking about you know, his journey and how far
he came to the moment he's at now and to
his fame, so far and all he endures.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
So kind of listening to that to you know, give
me motivated.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
What about your favorite thing to do in Jacksonville? Lying
in bed doesn't count.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
I say, I like to take strolls, walks, walk my dogs.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
I live in a nice scenery, you know, a lot
of ponds around, a lot of grass. So that's my
favorite thing so far outside of laying a bit.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Okay, lastly, what do most people not know about you?
Speaker 5 (41:59):
What's people don't know that? I'm really funny when you
get to know me. When I get comfortable. Oh yeah,
I can talk a lot and I could be, you know, funny.
I look like a chiller outside, but you know, behind
clude do whatever that can be.
Speaker 4 (42:11):
Goofy.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Okay, the problem is there, Basial is that that means
that every single Jagspape player that I speak to for
the rest of the season, my first question is is
Basial funny?
Speaker 4 (42:20):
Probably gonna say no. It depends what you ask, though,
it depends on your ass.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
All right, who should I ask?
Speaker 4 (42:27):
You should definitely ask I guess any of the running backs?
Speaker 1 (42:31):
Okay, all right, there we go. When when Travis, when
you guys are over here, it's the first question I'm
going to ask when I see Travis, is Basial funny?
And if he says no, I mean that's that wrong.
Thanks so much for joining us today.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Thank you. I appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Jay.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
That was a lovely chat with self proclaimed funniest man
on the roster.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
He did say that, he did say that I should
have asked him, actually I should have said, well, look
who's funny? Then you Maybe that's what I should have said,
and then I could have based how funny he was
on how funny I think the other person or the
other person was, So it's all to do with your
opinion on it. That's it great to speak to the jags,
you know, rookie running back, a very interesting conversation, finding
(43:18):
out a little bit more about you know, basial two
and and I will be if I see him in
about a week of bit's time, I will be We'll
be getting that joke from him. Although how annoyed that
must be the most annoying thing about being a comedian though,
it's just like a ton of the joke. But he's
not a comedian, so maybe it's okay. I think it's okay.
I think it's okay. US would be disappointed if you didn't,
(43:39):
Jake Ill. What even funny though, is if he if
I do it and he just can't remember the conversation
and He's like, why sorry, I'm not literally, you know,
Jacksonville is a world away. Anyway, Look, let's let's look
forward now, Seahawks game. Key, what's your plan for it?
What you're gonna watch it?
Speaker 2 (43:58):
I will be watching it on Sunday evening on the
big screen now that I've figured out how to get
it up on there. And the first half will be
with the Big Dog and she will go to Bird
at halftime and then yeah, it will be second half
on my own. I'm actually quite looking forward to Sunday.
I think it's I think it's a bit of a test.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
I think it's definitely a test. I think it's going
to be a really interesting game. It's going to be
a bit of a I mean, I think the Chiefs
win was a statement win, but this will solidify something.
I think solidifies something in people's minds if the victory.
Forget the victory against the Seattle Seahawks. I'm going to
be at the game in London actually this weekend, so
I'll be missing it depends what traffic's like, to be honest,
(44:40):
how much I'll be missing, but I'll be missing some
of it, but I'll be listening in anyway, Okay, this
has been till talking association with Gallagher, a Shooting Shark
production for Jacksonville, Jaguar's UK and Ireland and don't forget.
