Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's ten degrees in Oxford, seven in Ballet Castle, twenty
four in Jacksonville. Actually, that's where we've just been kind
of sort of but no, but not really watching the
press conference with the brand new Jacksonville Jankuers General manager online.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Key, Welcome to Duvald James Gladstone.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
I feel like we need a random applause, but it's
not quite the same and it's just me and you,
is it? No, sounds pathetic, absolutely pathetic. Oh, anyway, we'll
get into the appointment of the new general manager.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
In just a moment.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
And this is til Talk, by the way, the official
Jacksonville Janku's UK podcast, presented by Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence.
Still no relation. He's Key Ram suren Key. This is
a busy show for an off season show. This is
an unbelievably busy show.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
This is bumper man. This is one of our biggest ones.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
It is and I feel like I need to try
and do this in one breath.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
No, I won't take a big one.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I can try. Okay, we have four guests coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Jaguars Vice President of UK Operations Maria Gaganti tells us
about the Jaguars Foundation launching Wembley. Last week, Lewis rees
Zammit talks about re signing with the Jaggs. Reeth Parkinson
of Jaguars week Weekly UK on Sky Sports joins, us,
I know I got the most.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Of it and we have can we get a drum roll?
Speaker 1 (01:27):
I think we can get a little bit of a
drum roll, Producer Simon can put in a drum roll afterwards,
right because we announced the newly crowned Jacksonville Jaguars International
Fan of the Year, we actually break the news to
him as well, which is, you know, just just about
me for a second.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
What an honor? And I'm just I'm sure literally how
have you just loves moment for him?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
But more about me?
Speaker 2 (01:56):
What an honor? What an honor it is?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
But yeah, you know, incredible to tell this person that
they are going to be going to the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft as a representative of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Incredible.
We're going to get to that person. I'm not going
to say the name you know.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Them of suspense Jay Lawrence.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Because if you listen right now, there's a chance you
might know him. Man, You're going to be really happy
and excited. If you think it's you, chances are it's
not because we've already done the conversation, so you'd be
aware if you were part of the conversation. First though, Key,
we have just been watching coach Cohen speak to the
media and the first press conference of the new GM
(02:41):
James Gladstone, formerly of the Rams, according to Shad khan't
exceptional in every regard.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Who are we to disagree? First opinions please, Key, So.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Jay, my thoughts are twofold right. Firstly, I thought James
Ladsden was very considerate in his answer. I liked that
he paused and was very thoughtful. That pleased me greatly
because it's the opposite of me. Secondly, I think it's
going to be really interesting based on how the Rams
(03:13):
have been drafting with him being in that room to
see what we do in the draft. So I'm going
to withhold any opinions or any thoughts on it until
we've drafted, because I think over the last few years
we've had a history of drafting okay in the first round,
maybe okay in the second round, but third round onwards
maybe we haven't been as strong. So I think it's
going to be really interesting to see what we can
(03:34):
do in the later rounds of the draft this year.
So let's see how it pans out. Man.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah, and it has to be said as well, you know,
you're talking about the draft that the Jags have so
many draft picks over the next two years, specifically, I
mean Jane Gladstone actually he mentioned that when asked about it,
and that's something that previously when he was with the Rams,
it was a really similar situation. And in his words,
he said that he's in a unique position to be
(03:59):
able to who I'm paraphrasing now get the most out
of the next two drafts, because, as I say, the
Rams are in a similar situation. You know, it also
has to be said as well. Thirty four years old.
Thirty four years old general manager of the Jacksonville Jacks.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
A lot of young blood just come in to the
staff on the Jags, isn't the.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
One hundred percent? I mean Liam Cohen himself is thirty
nine as well, which is young.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
I mean seeing ordinator is fourteen years old.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Nine, I think he's twenty nine years old? Is Grant Yeddinski.
Anthony Campanelli is, by the way, the defensive coordinator that's
been it's been put into that position over the last
few weeks since our last episode as well. So a
lot to be excited about. And I know this might
sound not specifically team related, however, one of the first
(04:53):
things that the new GM did when he was when
he was being asked questions, actually before he was asked questions,
he started getting emotional. He started getting emotional when he
was talking about particularly his wife and his kids. Yeah,
and you know, he was saying how he was happy
and wanted to be a high school teacher and a
high school football coach, and obviously his life has changed
(05:19):
over the last few years quite a lot, and he's,
you know, been quite emotional about the whole thing. And
when you see that something means so much to somebody,
you can't help but feel, you know, on their side.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Do you know what, Jay, It's the same thing that
I feel about Tony Bisselli, who also now has a
new position. I like people that wear their heart on
their sleeve, which absolutely does as well. And with this
first press conference and you see him getting emotional. I
like human beings, man. I like to see that. I
don't want a ridiculously media trained person giving all the
(05:52):
right answers and stuff. I like to see that. It's exciting.
How it's all going to work out. We don't know
do We will have to wait and see. But immediately
he as a person, I was like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I like this. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
And also I think it's worth mentioning the draft in
respect because that's obviously what so many Jags fans have
got in their mind right now.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
We've got free agency over the next few weeks and
then it's the draft, and that's, you know, something that's
so massive when it comes to being a general manager. That's,
you know, a lot of your reputation is laid out
on what happens over the next couple of months. When
asked about what sort of player he looks for, he's
looking for the intangibles. Apparently it is the intangibles that
help the whole ecosystem that is the team, that is
(06:30):
the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
It's like saying good ones, extent good ones.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
It's not so much about traits, then, is it. You know,
he's not necessarily going to go for the biggest guy
or the fastest guy. He's looking for the things that
you can't maybe put numbers on does that make sense?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Like there's a lot of guys that can achieve certain
numbers at the combine, right, But a lot of the
time it's not necessarily just about those numbers. It's about
intangibles like do they get on well, how will they
be in the locker room, will they make them laugh
in the interview? Do they seem like a decent person
and so on and so forth. So maybe that's what
he's referring to.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Well, he said that as well, you know, he said
what they're like off the field as well.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
That's something that they look at. I mean, that's what
every you know, coach looks at.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
But it depends on how much you how much stock
you put into it, I suppose. Regardless, it's going to
be a big few weeks anyway for the Jacksonville Jackson
It's going to be a big few weeks for every
single NFL team obviously, but the Jags are in his
position where it's all fresh man.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yeah, yeah, And I think, do you know what, there's
a lot of negative nancies out there at the minute,
and I'm not about that at all. I think, yeah,
there's fair enough, there's some inexperience there but there's also
a lot of people who have come in very excited
to prove themselves, is another way of looking at it,
and I think this is really exciting. I'm looking forward
to where we go man.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
And also lastly, we asked, you know, as much as
you say in experience, as much as you say, as
we're talking about the fact that they're young, it's not
that they don't deserve to be in this position.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
No, of course not. They wouldn't have very exactly.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
I've heard very good things about what James Gladstone did
for the Rams, specifically when it comes to drafting as well,
and with the Jags draft capital of the next couple
of years.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Exciting.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah, there's no point being negative before they've had the
chance to do anything. That's just silly. Man. Let's be
excited and let's see what happens. That's why I say.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Also, congratulations to Eric Hamstead over the last few weeks.
I mean, we spoke about what we had him on
the podcast, didn't we a few weeks ago because he
was going to he was a Walter Payton NFL Man
of the Year nominee.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Well, actually he's not a nominee anymore.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
He's a nominee. He's not a nominee. Tell us what happened, Jay,
he won it.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Congratulations to witness it. I wasn't actually at the honors.
I wasn't there to be able to witness it, but
I was. I was, you know, in the same city
at the time. So congratulations to Eric.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
But yeah, I was in. I was in New Orleans
at the time, which.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Was for the You've got food poisoning j I No,
it was genuine food poisoning. I'm not having this. I'm
not having this people being like, oh, you had food poisoning.
Did you did you go out for a drink or two? No,
it was food poison I was meant to be on
one of the so they had like a mini Mardi
Gras the day before the Super Bowl with parade, with
(09:21):
the parade and you know, people throwing off of the
floats and all of that.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
I was meant to be on the float. Key, I
was meant to be on the float with you.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Need to make better life decisions, then, don't you.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
What food getting food poisoning. I'm not having any of this.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Key, that's bad luck. I was excited for you.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
You still slightly gutted, but that said, you know, the
day after I went to my first Super Bowl key,
so it was amazing.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Tell us a little bit about it, because most of
us will never get to go.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
It was.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
I mean, it was just exactly what you think it
was going to be. To be honest, obviously, the game
itself was a little bit one sided. So the atmosphere
in that way, I mean Chiefs fans in the second
half for pretty quiet. I think it's fair to say,
but it's just a whole experience and the city was
just overtaken by everything super Bowl related for the week
before I had there was some I'll be honest, and
(10:12):
I can say this, I can say this to you.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
I mean we're all friends. There are some tears in
my eyes on the on the lead up because I
was like, you know.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
A special city to you as well, there's a netal.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
City to me.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Used to live in New Orleans, so you know, that's
it was. It was amazing to be there. Halftime show
Kendrick Lammer was unbelievable. So I don't really know what
to say except that it was just it's just weird.
When I think back to it and think that it
was just incredible, so happy, to have happy to have gone,
not happy to have eaten something dodgy.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
But apart from that, it was it was amazing rough.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
With the smooth dude. I'm really toughed for you man.
It sounds great.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, there was Actually do you know what was really funny?
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Actually, I don't know if you know how like the
Week before works, but it's like a whole media center
or like radio row, where there's lots of lots of
radio stations and media organizations that are sort of like,
you know, there to to speak NFL players, former NFL players,
you know, celebrities and all that. That's where I spoke
to Tony Boselli on that you know, that special podcast.
If you haven't listened to it, by the way, speaking
(11:08):
about his new role and everything, you can listen to
that now. I do think it's quite funny though, in
the fact that you turn around the corner and then
there's just oh, massive NFL player or like you know,
it's just like you turn the corner, it's like, oh,
that's Miles Garrett next to me, or Aiden Hutchinson next
to me.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Drew Brees was next to me.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Like it's just like strange when you're like when you
watch the NFL, especially in this country.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Key, when you're so as much as you.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Want to be as ingrained as you can be, when
it comes to the NFL, you're still inherently in a
different country, so you aren't going to just randomly bump
into somebody in the middle of the street, you know
what I mean. But then when you're when you're just
walking about rubbing literally rubbing shoulders like you know.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Jay, Yeah, you say rubbing shoulders. You're five ft eight.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
I was at a bar one night and forty nine
is time end? George hes he just walks next to me.
He is not five for eight. He is not five
for eight.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, it was. It was an incredible time. It was
an incredible time.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
So much to come on the show though, Key, Yeah,
lewis free, Sammit still exciting. Yeah, the former Welsh rugby
player of course, a man who has just signed a
new deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Maria Gigante as well
the Jaguars vice president of UK Operations. And you don't
want to miss what's to come up. Regarding the Jaggs
(12:34):
International Fan of the Year. We're joined by Rhys Parkinson
as well.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
The one I know, only I've missed him so much.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Okay, joining us next on till to All. It's the
face of Jacksonville Jaguars. Here in the UK. You might
have seen him on Jaguars Weekly UK. Reyes Parkinson, How
are you mate? How's your off season?
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Yeh, super good. Thanks for having me back on the podcast.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I just became infinitely better looking. Race.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Wow, that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
How's your off season? What have you been up to.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
I've been trying to find ways that we can draft
Travis Hunter and I have assista. I think the Titans
trade away their pick. If they trade away their pick,
that's how we land Travis Hunter because he's going to
go for QB's that's where we get Travis Hunter. So
I think it's possible, and I've been calculating different ways,
and that's my my go to on draft night. If
(13:28):
we hear the Titans have traded away they're pick, we've got.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Thh Do you know what I don't think Daniel Jeremiah
needs to to think. Do you know what I need
to look look over my shoulder for a new job.
I think the draft Knicks might be all right.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
They might be right.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
When's your interview for GM race?
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Very good, very fair, That is fair, Reece, thank you
so much for joining us, and we're actually here to
talk about the big question. That's why Reese, it's good
to get you on because we're joined by Jags fan
here in the UK, Jamie Phillips.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Jamie, what is the big question?
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Hello everybody, I hope you're all well.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
A bit of a fun one this time being the
off season, with the stadium upgrades all happening starting from
now of the next few seasons, what would you like
to see inside the stadium and a bit of fun
bit of upgrades.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
So at the moment we have the pool.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
At the moment in Jacksonville at Tottenham Stadium, we have
the go kart track underneath the stadium or so you
have the brewery inside as well as there's some cool
fun element. What would you like to see if you
were a developer and you was developing this stadium, what
would you have put into this stadium?
Speaker 1 (14:36):
It needs to be something slightly different and that's why
I'm going straight to key instant thoughts.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
I would have a retractable ballpit, end zone to end
zone that comes out in halftime, and every fans seat
is equipped with a spring loaded ejector button that can
launch you from your s eat straight into the ball pit.
That's my answer.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Would be really fun for the first the first game.
And are they refreshing it? They're refreshing all the balls,
every single all of.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
The balls are provided by soft plays from around the country.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Right, fantastic?
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Yeah, No, that's a joke answer my serious answer obviously, Yeah,
that's a joke. Yeah, I'm not bit. My serious answer
would be eighty foot statues of Reese Parkinson and JP
Shadwick erected outside the stadium.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Reese, are you on board with this? Am I on board?
That was his serious answer. I have to take a
serious answer, seriously, real.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Key, there's no part of key that is serious. Although
I did like the ejectibles. The ejectibles has got legs.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
I'll take that, Reese, what would you like to since
the stadium?
Speaker 4 (15:45):
But I can do better, and I can see this
actually potentially happening. So any of you fans of Jack Harlowe.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
The singer, Yes, where it is going? Where is this?
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Let me land? I would like to put in a
music recording studio in the new stadium, Cam Little I
think can drop a very fire wrap album featuring Josh
Allen and Brian Thomas studio. I want Trevor doing a
country album, and I think we have Jaguars the best
(16:22):
of all recorded at the stadium's music studio.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Thoughts, I don't I actually don't hate it.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
I'm not even gonna lie like this isn't even me
being you know, playing playing along land.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Any guest that comes to the games music recordist can
use the booth.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Philadelphia Eagles did a Christmas record.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
When does this happen? When are they recording? Are they
recording during the So? Is it like they come off
the field on a Saturn.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
Day and.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Straight to the booth.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Forget the press conference after They're straight in the booth.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
No press conference.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
That's the plan before the game, like the hype video like.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
And stuff. Yeah you need you need that, I think.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, sorry, Jamie, what are you saying?
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Well, I didn't actually think about it that much, to
be honest.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Your question, Well, I was thinking more like a bit
more serious, a bit more like of an immersive experience,
you know, kind of in the concourse area, maybe having
like a like the globe, like you're have in Vegas
kind of you're kind of inside in the pitch, kind
of more like a four D experience. That's kind of
where I was going. You too, when a bit a
bit elaborative.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Statues of recent JB would be very immersive.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
I think that we probably should get some player statues
before those two.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
I've got a serious one.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
I've got a serious one, but it's it's playful but serious. Now,
obviously in stadiums around the country, stadiums around the globe,
there will be such a thing is a bar. They
will have them, of course in the new stadium as well,
somewhere that somebody can get a drink. But why not,
as the Jacksonville Jaguars, you know, put such effort into
the UK, why not bring the UK over to Jacksonville
(18:14):
and have a pub, have a pub inside the stadium.
About a sticky floor, it has it permanently has a
sticky floor. The first day it had a sticky floor,
and people are really confused, like why, and no one
knows why. But there's a sticky floor, and they clean
it and they clean it and they just can't get
rid of the sticky floor. Anyway, I feel like it
(18:35):
needs to be a pub with an old pub smell,
an old pub look, and I don't want it to
be any like faux pub, you know, I don't want
it to be like faux leather. No, I want it
to go all out, all out, a proper Jacksonville Jaguars
pub thoughts.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Yeah, I like that idea, selling British ale, selling, yeah,
selling good drinks, Yeah, sticky floor.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
Very well worn dartboard.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
But no one say yeah, yeah, how has it become
so warm?
Speaker 1 (19:04):
You know one of those quiz machines that you put
a two quid in and you're like, now I'm going
to win this time.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
You never win.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
An old lady permanently dancing in the corner there's no music.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Well, I don't know what pubs you go to fair.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
I like the idea of relocating one bar staff member
from Wigan, another from Rotherham, but then get one from Carlisle.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Just make the Jags fans. Do we tell them what's
happening or not?
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah they're aware. Jamie.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
You've got final say, if you had to choose between
the ball pit or the music studio, which one would
you choose?
Speaker 6 (19:36):
I think practically, practically, I think it will have to
be in the music studio because I do not want
to go into a bullpit where beer has been spilt
into that.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
We can't have the pub and the bullpit.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
No, if you don't want that, Jamie, never go to
Milton Keynes. That's what I'm where.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
I'm from.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Down the road from me, Jamie. I am honored to
leave gone with the music Studio, and I'd love to
give you a placement there if you do want to
record it, you let me know.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
But I relocate absolutely to Jacksonville. Yet not a problem, Jamie.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
You're a man of taste, as we all know, and
I've well, we've got to speak to you about this before.
But what got you into the Jags. You've got a
bit of a fascinating story.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
I feel like, Okay, so it starts off quite bland.
Speaker 6 (20:22):
I suppose actually come from a rugby background, always played
rugby kind of throughout my kind of childhood and stuff,
and really wanted to try something new. And that was
back in probably twenty twelve twenty thirteen, when Jags actually
ironically started coming over to the UK. I wanted to
get into the sport of watching American football and wanted
(20:45):
to play something as well, and I originally started playing
flag American football for a local team because I didn't
have a clue about any of the rules or anything.
I didn't attend the first Jags London game. I actually
went the following year for the Cowboys game. Was my
kind of first kind of event I went to first
Jags event I went to, and I watched Jags get
(21:08):
beat get hammered. However, I liked I liked the color teal,
I liked the logo, and I hated Dallas Cowboys fans,
If I'm totally honest, and kind of it all kind
of then grew and stem from there. Obviously, the Jags
started coming over to the UK a hell of a
lot more. I then started to play kitted American football
as I started to grow and develop the no the
(21:29):
rules a lot better, and yeah, Jags just kind of
became my team that kind of went a bit crazy
for and a bit obsessed with. If I'm totally honest,
I've kind of attended every kind of Jags event they've
kind of done over here, coaching clinics to player academies,
flag tournaments, have kind of done a bit of everything, really,
and yeah, just kind of come a bit obsessed with
(21:52):
it all and seeing you guys every year in London
when you're recording in queues for player signings and stuff.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Well you say obsessed. I would probably say more than obsessed.
We've done on the show a few quizzes with you
and you've only ever got one question wrong. And just
to set the context as well, some of these questions
are ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
I e.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
The game in twenty fifteen, the field goal in the
second quarter, what yard was that taken from? And you're
thirty eight and it's usually right. So you've only ever
got one wronged.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
About that one wrong and that's a Trevor Lawrence stat so.
Speaker 7 (22:31):
That it was.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Yeah, But Jamie, you make lots of content as well.
You do loads of Jags related content and activity, So
talk us through some of those, because I don't even
think I'm aware of everything you do.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
Again with my obsession, like I said, following the Jags
maybe about four or five years ago. It was actually
during lockdown and trying to find other things to do
to kind of keep myself busy, decided to set up
a fan page for Jags UK fans, a slightly less
formal fan page compared.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
To obviously Jaguars UK. I set up Jacks.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
Across the Pond, set up a little community of what
I thought was only going to be maybe twenty odd
kind of fans who have kind of met over the years,
have get togethers, do giveaways and just buying and selling
kind of merchandise and memorabilia. And then I then set
up things like doing podcasts as well, and done a
couple of write ups for a couple of people on
(23:27):
x or Twitter. At the time, had no prior experience
of any sort of communications or kind of media kind
of stuff. Just kind of wanted to kind of do
something new and something that I really enjoyed obviously, which
was the Jackson and Jaguars. So I just started writing
up about games and boring different things to do and
made quite quite a nice little community of British Jacks fans.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Yeah, Well, it says a lot about you because you
are extremely kind, personal and everyone in that community is
brilliant as well, So it says a lot about you. Jamie.
I've got some new for you.
Speaker 8 (24:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Shall we tell him?
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Key and j what do you think you should?
Speaker 2 (24:07):
I think he deserves I probably should.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Yeah, Yeah, Jamie, How would you feel if I said
to you that you are the Jaguars International Fan of
the Year for twenty twenty five No one?
Speaker 2 (24:29):
No, wow?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Well and mate, well deserve yes you are.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
No. I was not expecting to hear that. This is
this is wind up, This is just.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
A Jamie wait for it, wait for it. It's not
just that.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Listen to this.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Your prize, real prize, Jamie, is a trip to the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
You and a plus one are on the way.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You've got the red carpet treatment, You've got a Q
and A with the NFL Commissioner, so much more as well.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
And you deserve it, Jamie, you deserve it. How do
you feel?
Speaker 5 (25:12):
I don't even know.
Speaker 6 (25:13):
What to say, Like, I'm absolutely gobsmacked. I was definitely
not expecting to hear that on a on a day
after work today.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
Like, wow, no way, give me that?
Speaker 6 (25:26):
What Doval? Because now I'm a bit confused. Do we
do a coach Cohen Duval?
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Do the original?
Speaker 4 (25:33):
I want the original?
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Original? Please? Mate?
Speaker 2 (25:40):
You tell us, you got to tell us who you're
going to be taken.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
I don't know because.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
I'm free.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
The wife is going to kill me because it won't
probably be her.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
But the main reason for that is we do have
a baby at home, like we've had a newborn baby
in the lastulation. Yeah, that's that. That's the reason why
she probably won't be come in. It's probably going to
be a Jacks fan from from one of the from
my group to be honest, So probably put some feelers
out there, see who's.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Free feelers like that?
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Wow, Jamie, congrats man, I love this for you.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
Bro, I'm over the moon.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
What does it mean to you, Jamie?
Speaker 6 (26:28):
It means it means so much just to be recognized,
you know, for for something that I've been doing that
I'm just doing for fun, like I'm just I'm doing
it for my own kind of pleasure, like my own
bit of fun. And to be kind of recognized from
Jackuars and jack Uka and having a title of just
being in National Fan of the Year is just it's
just phenomenal. Something I never ever wanted or would have
(26:50):
never imagined would would happen. So I'm ecstatic, honestly, really really.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
Really am who.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
You deserve it mate, And it's you know, as you say,
it's the the recognition as much as the trip out
to Green Bay for the draft will be insane. I
mean that recognition, that's the that's the thing that's I
think we'll hit you.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, dude, I'll send you my passport details
for the no worries man, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
No problem.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
You deserve it, man.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
And honestly, is there a way that you can you're
going to celebrate tonight? Is there something you're going to do?
And what does it mean by putting feelers out?
Speaker 5 (27:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
I've got to have a hard fought on kind of
who i'd want to I'd want to come with me.
Who would be up for the draft experience because I
think that's a bit of a bit of a good time,
a good three days at the draft. So try and
tune in and watch it every year, so it would
be amazing to be there.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
So, Ami, what what would you ask the commissioner in
a Q and A.
Speaker 5 (27:48):
When's the Super Bowl coming to Jacksonville? Probably a standard one?
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Nice? What what would he put in the new Jags stadium?
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Per music? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I tell you what, Jbie.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
If if you were genuinely ask Roger Goodell what he'd
rather have in a stadium, A ball pit or a
music studio. Then that would be I mean, it'd be
a waste of a question. I'm not gonna lie, but
it would be amazing. It would be amazing.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Questions every day, Jamie, Jamie, what player or position do
you want us to take? Because you're you're you're essentially
our scout, Jamie is.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Going to go offensive line.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Surely it's going to be defensive line.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely is Yeah, Charis Una would be nice.
I do think that we definitely pick up the defensive
side of the ball. I think that's kind of our
biggest priority to start off with. And yeah, that's going
to be I think that's going to be spent on
the defensive tackle.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
And usually you'd be sitting on the sofa watching it, thinking,
I wonder who the Jags.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Are going to take, but shattered as well.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
And now you'll be you'll be wrapped up at Green Bay,
you'll be at the draft. That's a bucket list thing, mate,
So congratulations to you.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
You really deserve it. Jamie. Can we have another round
of applause for Jamie? Please?
Speaker 1 (29:08):
I mean it's only quite sound graven. There's just three
of us crapping, to be fair, but you know put in, Yeah,
the whole of the JAG's UK fan base will be,
you know, clapping for you and supporting you, Jamie, and
we'll be watching it over here in the UK and
looking out for you on the telly.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
It's amazing. Thank you guys so much, really appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
And thank you for coming on the podcast mentioned thank you.
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Unbelievable news, isn't it? Key unbelievable?
Speaker 3 (29:38):
So lovely and honestly, I know we said it when
we were talking to him, but there is no one
more deserving than Jamie. The part that he plays in
the Jags UK community cannot be overstated. He is a
what do you call the most important part of a bridge,
the keystone. He's like the keystone of the JAG's UK
community and no one deserves it more than him.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Man.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, and it's worth going on to our YouTube channel
as well to watch his reaction and our socials to
watch his reaction as well, because this is the problem
with podcast key is when someone gets amazing news half
the time, if not more than half the time, they're
literally lost for words, which in an audio medium it's
(30:21):
not particularly helpful.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Unless you're James Gladstone your emotions don't come across in
your voice, they come across in your face, right, honestly. Yeah,
So Jamie might not sound like he was emotional, but yeah,
he definitely was. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
Yeah, No, you need to go and check that own
on socials because he's just shocked loss for words, and
you know, as much as anything else, going to socials
just to see his background, like it's just incredible.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
All of the Jags gear and he's collected and that's
why he deserves it.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Nice that Rees joined us for that as well, because
Reese and Jamie have a nice relationship. I thought that
was lovely.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yeah, I mean Reese Catel was just is so on
board with it and so excited for him as well.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
I mean we all are.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
It's so funny, isn't it because when you're talking and
you know and we know what's coming up, and it's
almost like a little secret we've all got, Yeah, and
it's just exciting. It was just amazing and he really
deserves it as well. So congratulations to Jamie. He's going
off to the twenty twenty five NFL Draft.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
What a prize.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
I just don't think there's many better prizes. I mean,
that's just an unbelievable price correct and.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
With a new GM and new head coach as well
to be steering us. That's excellent, man, what a prize.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Speaking of our social channels, JAGS YouTube channel, the Jackson
Jager's UK and Ireland a YouTube channel and what is.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
On it key Interestingly, there was a really lovely comment
a few weeks back that someone said how interesting they
find the content on the Jags UK YouTube channel, which
is really lovely. And a couple of the videos that
are doing well at the moment is one where we
go into the treatment rooms and we see like where
the players would get their physio and their massage and stuff,
and you get to see all that stuff which you
(32:05):
don't normally get to see that stuff, so that's quite
good access. And then you've got like access to the
weights room and the strength and conditioning coach talking about
like who lifts the most and that sort of thing.
So those are a couple of the videos that are
doing well. And then in the off season we're going
to be posting some of the stuff that wasn't in
the show, that didn't make it into the Sky show,
so there's gonna be loads of unseen stuff and then
(32:27):
some other exciting stuff that I'm actually not going to
talk about, but I will mention one name, which is
Brian Thomas Jr.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Ooh okay, yeah, yeah, the one and only Brian Thomas
junior reference in this show.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
I was like, they asked me to make a video
and I was like, well, Brian Thomas Jr.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
We just do that.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Speaking of Jags wide receivers, congratulations to Lewis, ree Zammit
and Wales his own Lewis really examit to a former
Welsh rugby star. Of course, signed on for another season
with the Jags. Came in last season. I actually really
quite late on yeah, in pre season. It really was
just before the season started, if you remember, he signed
(33:07):
with the Kansas City Chiefs, came to the Janguars and
changed positions there as well, so he moved from running
back to wide receiver. So it's really been, you know,
a whirlwind over the last few months.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
And this will.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Be his first proper off season with the Jacksonville Jankuars,
you know, playing the position that he wants to play,
wide receiver. So I caught up with him to talk
about his new challenges in Jacksonville. All right, welcome Lewis
reezamit too till talk Now the Jaguars wide receiver who
has been announced is staying in Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
How do you feel?
Speaker 7 (33:39):
Make Oh, I'm over the moon, very grateful for this
opportunity and can't wait.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
To get going.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
What was it about the Jaguars that you know that
made you want to stay?
Speaker 5 (33:50):
There was a lot of things.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
One from knowing most of my teammates, knowing the facility,
you know, all that kind of stuff. The receiver room's
pretty similar, so I can continue to learn from those boys.
And it's a very very exciting new coaching setup. So
I think it's one that I can I can kind
of thrive on. And the beaches in the weather that
also helps.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
You mentioned the new coaching self there, you know, quite
a lot to change actually over the last few weeks,
hasn't it? In Jacksonville? New head coach in Lee and
Cohen wondering if you've spoken or what is it about
him that you know really like you know? Makes you again?
What's to say? In Jacksonville?
Speaker 7 (34:29):
He's very exciting. I think the way he kind of
plays his brand the football is very exciting. It's very
different in a way kind of uses offensive powers differently
to other teams, and that's exciting. So it's one that
I'm very much looking forward to learn learning, and yeah,
I can't wait for for OTAs and kind of preseason
to start. Obviously last year it was it was pretty
(34:50):
tough coming in Week one and not having a full
preseason with the team obviously changing positions completely as well,
So it was a great year to kind of experience
all of that and and learn from from the from
my teammates and especially that receiver room which is very
experienced and stacked. So you know, I'm I'm really excited
for this opportunity, and you know, I kind of can't
(35:10):
wait to learn this new playbook and you know, kind
of get started and and and start OTAs again because
you know, we've we've had a fair bit of time off.
Now I know we still got a lot more, but
you know, training started already, so you know, I'm really excited.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Is that you sound in a good way?
Speaker 1 (35:28):
You sound impatient, Yeah, very impatient because I want to
get going.
Speaker 7 (35:33):
This opportunity is one that I'm so excited about. And
to get a full a full preseason here is going
to be great and It's one that's going to allow
me to to grow and you know, grow faster than
kind of trying to learn like mid season. So getting
a full preseason ahead of me is going to be
It's going to be great just getting reps at receiver
because you know, obviously last year I was I was
(35:54):
playing running back in pre season, so it was very different.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
What are you specifically focusing on between now and then?
Speaker 7 (36:01):
Just about my releases, you know, the rout tree, my routes,
just making them crisper, you know, my short, sharp explosive movements.
You know, all the kinds of stuff that you that
you really need as a receiver just to feel sharp again, really,
you know, before heading into OTAs and kind of kind
(36:21):
of ask the time to learn the playbook and and
usual the mental side of the game more than the physical.
So now the training now is more about you know,
feeling sharp, feeling ready for my brain to start to
start learning a new playbook and all of that kind
of stuff.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
You know.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
And last time I saw you in October, you know,
we had a conversation about how you could tell the
difference between you even like six or eight weeks earlier.
You know, how much you've grown well the whole season.
When you look back on where you were in September,
let's say September, because you know when you joined the Jay, can.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
You what do you see?
Speaker 1 (36:59):
What difference do you you see and does that give you,
you know, does it make you feel excited for what's ahead.
Speaker 7 (37:04):
When I first walked in that door, I was just
so I was just so happy to be able to
play receiver and just get raps at it. I mean,
my games come so far from then and that's you know,
that's evident in the in the footage and stuff like that. So,
you know, just being able to work with my receiver group,
Chad who was the coach, the receiver coach, you know,
(37:26):
just being able to work on all the routes, getting
in and out of breaks, my release, the kind of
the releases, which is one of the most important things
as a receiver. So you know, all of that kind
of stuff. Was was unbelievable to see me grow, you know,
throughout a whole season. So you know, I'm kind of
really looking forward to being able to continue that.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
And I know you were at the Super Bowl in
New Orleans as well a few weeks ago, and which
I'm sure was an amazing experience for you. Was there
like a pinch me moment at all?
Speaker 5 (37:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (37:57):
I mean it was my first Super Bowl, so I've
always kind of dreamed of going to a Super Bowl
and being able to watch one. I can't really explain
the feeling. It was unbelievable. The next step is, you know,
being a player at one. So you know, I'm going
to try and do everything I can to to kind
of make this roster this year and then see what happens.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
I know that your dad's a big NFL fan, isn't
he right, So I was wondering if you know, were
you texting him when you were there or anything. Was
he happy for you but actually kind of livid at
the same time.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
Yeah, we faced me and.
Speaker 5 (38:26):
My brother face timed him at halftime.
Speaker 7 (38:28):
And it was like it was like two am in
the UK and he was staying up for it.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
So yeah he was.
Speaker 7 (38:35):
He was a bit he wasn't there, but I got
to FaceTime him and kind of show him around.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
So look, lastly, Lewis, I've got to mention the fact
that you're going to be over in London again with
the Jaguars again at Wembley Stadium again. I know it's
a while away, but it's.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Such a pivotal moment on the NFL calendar for the
Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
How excited are you for that?
Speaker 3 (38:58):
So excited?
Speaker 7 (38:59):
Obviously, I was luckily enough to go last year, which
was switching an unbelievable kind of ten days with the team.
Hopefully this year, I'll I'll be playing in it. Obviously
watching it on the sideline last year, but my goal
is is kind of playing it this year. So you know,
we all love going to London and spending ten days there,
being able to see the city, being able to see
(39:20):
our Jags fans. Yeah, we're all really looking forward to it,
and no doubt I am as well.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
Lewis, congratulations and yeah, hopefully we'll see you later on
this year in London.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Jacksonville jagus wide receiver Lewis rees xamit. Hoping to make
the fifty three of course this season and having that
you know, whole off season with the Jags is going
to make the world of difference.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Key nice man.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Excited to see where his you know, career with Jacksonville
ends up. And let's be honest as well, he'll probably
be on the podcast sooner rather than later, because he
is over it every now and again.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Andy, Yeah, yeah, I mean I thought that was a
really lovely time, by the way, and I think you're
right about having a full off season leading into it
is going to make a big difference as to making
that fifty three. I think you're right about that.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
I know that my rugby knowledge isn't as up to scratches.
Maybe it should be, but I'm pretty confident that a
lot of Wales fans would quite like him to to
change back sports at the moment.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Well, the only thing I know about rugby is they
throw the ball in the opposite direction.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Well done, well done, while you go in that way, guys,
it's funny because, like usually obviously when people with our accents,
that was the only thing I know about American football
is they throw it forward. You just completely spurred.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
That flipped it on its head mate. I've always wanted
to be different.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Key.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
You went to the Jags Foundation launch in North London
last week, didn't you.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
What was that like?
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Yeah, not quite New Orleans, it was, do you know what?
It was? Excellent? I love what the Jags do, grassroots stuff.
I've been to a lot of jag Tag stuff. And
I was fortunate enough to be at the launch of
the Union Jacks Foundation in twenty twenty three, so I've
seen it develop and I've seen and this was the
(41:11):
first event day that they did, and there was, you know,
around seventy kids there, I'm going to say, and they
have a nice full day of doing various sports inside outside, swimming, lunch.
I mean, it was super funny. If I was a kid,
I'd have wanted to do it. But I could talk
(41:33):
about it for a long time. But Maria talks about
it much better than me. So let's hear what Maria
had to say about it. Maria, we are in a
leisure center in Willsden Green. Can you tell me why
are we in a center in Willsden Green.
Speaker 8 (41:46):
Yes, so we're delivering our first ever Union Jacks Foundation
Day event. This is a day provided by the Union
Jacks Foundation where kids can come and have a full
day of activity. They did some swimming this morning, They're
going to have some lunch which is provided through the foundation,
and then we'll end the afternoon with Jagtag so they
get a little bit of everything they learn about the Jaguars.
We'll do a little coloring, we'll speak to the kids
(42:09):
and just give them a well rounded day.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
For anyone who doesn't know what jagtag is, tell.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
Us what that is.
Speaker 8 (42:14):
So Jagtag is our version of flag football. It was
started to remove any kind of barrier to playing American football.
So you really don't need a flag, you just need
a green space and of all, and we deliver it
across the country. In fact, last year we hit over
one hundred thousand kids playing Jagtag in the United Kingdom, arazing.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Union Jack's Foundation give us a bit of a broad
overview as to what the idea is, what kind of
things have been going on, and what we can look
forward to.
Speaker 8 (42:43):
Sure, So the Union Jacks Foundation was officially launched in
twenty twenty three and we established foundation to work with
government to receive grant funding to do events like today,
to expand our Jagtag outreach and to make sure that
kids are getting opportunities and underserved communities regardless of their abilities,
(43:05):
regardless of their race. And it's really just something we
wanted to do just to really establish ourselves as the
UK's team.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
And I mean there's some names involved with the foundation
because I was there for the launch day and we
had the commissioner.
Speaker 8 (43:20):
You did, yeah, so the Commissioner was there. Jason Bell
is an ambassador for US, Phoebe Scheckter, Neil Reynolds. So
a lot of the football faces in the UK support
our foundation and we're really appreciative of all their efforts
and helping us get the message out.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
JAG's UK as a whole. What can we look forward
to as fans? What can we look forward to and
what are you looking forward to this season?
Speaker 8 (43:43):
So we are looking forward to the podcast coming back.
We're looking forward to kind of a youth focused strategy,
really honing in on those one hundred thousand kids that
are playing jag Tag, trying to bring out the personalities
of our players. We're looking forward to being back at
WHEN in the fall, and we're looking forward to so
(44:03):
before Wembley, we're looking forward to draft, which we'll do
probably an event like this but on a bigger scale
in London.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Can I ask you if you were GM who are
we drafting?
Speaker 8 (44:13):
That is a question way above my pay grade.
Speaker 3 (44:18):
Let's go to Wembley. So we don't know who we're playing,
we don't know too many details, but how are we
feeling about being back at Wembley again.
Speaker 8 (44:24):
Oh, very excited. Wembley is our home away from home.
We're excited to hopefully break records. We seem to be
doing that every year, so thank you to the fans
for coming out. But yeah, we're very excited. We hope
to know our schedule in the end of April, so
right after draft. Who were playing when we're playing and
get that information out.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
To our fans. Always love hearing from Maria. Do you
know what was my favorite bit of the day, Jay.
Maria was hanging out with some of the kids and
