Speaker 1 (00:03):
It's twenty eight degrees in Jacksonville, twenty four degrees in
Blackburn's twenty two degrees at the Giants Causeway. But look,
I'm not gonna lie the weather. It's quite nice at
the moment. This is still Talk, the Official Jacksonville Jaguars
UK and Ireland Podcast, presented by Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence,
in no relation. He's Key Ramsuran.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Why are we talking about Giants cause where we should
be renaming it Jags cause well, jackson calls the winners
of the twenty twenty five NFL Draft, your Jacksonville Jaguars.
It's been a heck of a few days, Key, heck
of a few days. Yeah, I mean a roller coaster

(00:43):
in a half that The Guardian gave Jagster Winn, Yahoo Sports,
CBS Sports, Bleacher Report all.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Gave the Jaguars an A. I think it's fair to
say did the Jags shock the draft? I feel like
they shocked the draft. We nabbed the big.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
One Ah, arguably the best player coming out of the
draft ends up at the Jags.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Do you know what right? Are we getting into this
right now? Or shall I wait a little bit?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Uh, let's go go on. If you've got a point.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
You've got a point.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Give me Sus Parkinson, right. The host of the show
has been talking about the Jags getting Travis Hunter honestly
since about October last year, and I'm like, Reece, it's
not going to happen, Like, the chances of that happening
are so low. And he's been like making his fantasy
team for next year with Travis Hunser in it. I'm like, Reece, no,

(01:36):
And then it happened. I couldn't believe it, honestly, could
not believe it.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Why what a moment My.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Jaw like dropped to the floor when when it was
announced that the Jags had traded up on the show today, unsurprisingly,
it's going to be a lot of draft talk. Jason
Bell is going to be coming up as well, speaking
about the Jags draft class of twenty twenty five, and
in fact, I mean, this is going to be an
amazing conversation to have as well. Because our International of
the Year, Jamie Phillips, he was on a few episodes ago,

(02:02):
if you remember, we revealed that he would be going
to Green Bay as part of his prize to the draft.
He's fresh back from Wisconsin. We're going to hear all
about what it was like to you know, actually go
see the draft, and if you're going to go see
any drafts, I think Jamie went to the right draft.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Absolutely this morning, and I was like looking forward to
hearing about it, and he said, yeah, I'm just writing
it all down before I forget it. So I think
he might have got the sickness sickness bug that you
had in New Orleans. Maybe maybe maybe I feel like
he's going to be taking a lot of notes because
there's going to be a lot to talk about for him.
I mean, i'd love for there to be like it

(02:39):
did to hear his reaction of you know what what
he felt like when he saw the Jags trade up
and when they got you know, we.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Saw it, he was on he was on the telly.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, like even better.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, dude, let's catch up with him about it.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Okay, we're going to We're going to catch up with
him in a little bit. Look to what I'll do,
key is I'm going to go through all of the
draft picks very quickly, okay, and then we'll go into
it a little bit before j Bell comes on. So
obviously Round one, Travis Hunter, the wide receiver slash dB
phenom from Colorado round three, and obviously we didn't have

(03:17):
a round two pick because it was traded to the
Cleveland Browns as part of the trade up. My alma matter,
the two Lane University's Caleb Randsaw. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
I was incredibly hyped to see two lane on the board,
let alone to the Jackson Jaguars.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
The nickelback Wyatt Millum, the guard and tackle as well,
played a bunch of different positions for West Virginia as well.
I apologize if I'm pronouncing his name wrong. I think
it's Beai shal Twoton, the running back from Virginia Tech
that was the round four pick. Another round four pick
as well, Jack Kaiser, the linebacker from Notre Dame. That

(03:54):
one actually, that draft pick was done by j Bell
at Stoneheck Stadium, where Sam Garrison's play in London. Of course,
Jalen McLeod, the linebacker from Auburn. Again, I might pronounce
this wrong. Rayan Lane the third, the safety from Navy
that was the round six pick. Round seven, joanah Mannheim,

(04:15):
the offensive lineman from USC and another running back actually
in round seven as well, the Quinn Allen from Syracuse
as well. We don't need to go into all of these, Key, okay,
because you know I don't have too much knowledge on
Rayon Lane. The third, the safety from Navy, to be honest.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
With you, the second, I do not.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
The third it's dad. It's dad. I could do it
that all day. And you know, myself and j Bell,
we'll talk about Travis Hunter a little bit in a moment,
but you know this is I think let's just let's
just look at the big picture here. Key. Yeah, this
is a Jagg's statement, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
It is a for effort, but b for bowl.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Like the move to go for Travis Hunt excellent, but
the addressing the needs was big for me. There are
certain areas that, based on last season, needed looking at,
and they got looked at in free agency. I think
short term needs were addressed. This draft I think has

(05:24):
addressed long term like the next decade. Getting a guard
that is going to play guard for ten years fantastic.
I think that's I think we've done really well. James Gladston,
good job man, flippy neck.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
James, Yeah, he and I mentioned it. Wanted to speak
to to j bellin Abe. He's got this aura around him.
I think James James Gladstone one of the most talked
about GM's in the Last Future.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
You know what, sometimes when James Gladston is talking, he
reminds me of the architects from the Matrix. That's so specific,
But do you know that kind of like flowing intelligent
narrative that about five words in. I'm lost, I've got
that what he's talking about anymore. But he knows exactly
what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Do you remember a few weeks ago, a few months ago,
when we were talking on the podcast about if there
was like a big billboard up, you know, on the
freeway in Jacksonville, you know, a big Jags billboard, and
there was three players up there. Do you remember this
conversation that we had who would be those three players? Well,
I think that we've decided which three players are going

(06:25):
to be already for this new season. Trevor Lawrence, Brian
Thomas Jr. And Travis Hunter.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Trevor Lawrence right and looking down the field and going
bdj or Travis Huns.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Imagine having those options.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, I think it's And what I'm really interested to
see is how much he's going to play on each
side of the ball as well, because you know, this
is a player who's played on both sides of the
ball of Colorado. That's his whole thing and that's why
he's seen such an amazing player going into this draft.
Looks like he might be playing offense. I do want
to just say one thing though, is I don't know

(07:01):
if you saw the conversation, the draft conversation, you know,
when they call him, say we're going to pick you,
and I felt like he was bombarded a little bit
because he spoke to about eight people, Travis Hunter, eight
people from the organization, you know, both coordinators, James Gladstone,
Liam Cohen, Tony Biselli, mister Kahn of course as well.

(07:22):
But one thing that I thought was really interesting is
the defensive coordinator, Anthony Caperanelli said that he was the
most fired up person in that room, and I thought
that's interesting because what does that say about what he
wants to do with Travis Hunter in the defensive side

(07:43):
of the ball. You know, we can talk about him
on the offense and maybe he'll be a bit on defense.
But I mean it could be that we'll see much
more defense than we and we might think it's going.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
To be very interesting.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
I mean, there's needs in both of those positions, so
it's going.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
To be very interesting, exactly.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
I think a lot of people assume, because of the
flare and the fanfare that comes with a wide receiver,
that that's where he's going to be. But he's equally
talented in both positions. So yeah, and let's be honest,
even if he only played one of those positions, fantastic
if he ends up playing both, as long as it
doesn't stretch him too much. I think, yeah, there's great

(08:20):
potential here.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Man. That's a big thing, isn't it. And that's the
thing that we can't answer at the moment.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
And college is different to the NFL.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Man, so like we can't just expect for him to
transition and do as much on offense and defense as
he was in college. That I just don't think that
can happen.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
I could speak for a long time about Caleb Ransell,
the nickelback from two lane, most of all because I
just want to speak about too lane to be honest,
But again, good to have somebody in Jaggs. Is no
secret to say they didn't have a good pass defense
in the NFL in twenty twenty four. Need somebody, somebody
young obviously coming up through the draft that they can

(08:56):
build and they can hopefully be a mainstay for years
to come. Again, it's like you said before picking, uh,
you know, a position of need.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Position of need long term as well. Yes, like fixing stuff,
getting some vexing short term fantastic, but this draft with
addressed long term and this is one of the positions
that needed looking at.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Good pick.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yeah. A couple running backs in the draft as well,
which I think is interesting because this is going to
be an interesting we'll have to see how it all,
you know, works over the next few months before the
NFL season starts. A couple of running backs taken in
the draft obviously, Travis het and Junior and Tank Bigsby
there as well, So you know, it's good to be
giving Trevor Lawrence essentially these options trying to build up
round as well.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah, yeah, it's a very good point returns that might
be what they're thinking about there. And the round four pick,
number one oh seven was Jack Kaiser, the linebacker from
Notre Dame, and that was picked, as I mentioned before,
from Stoneeck Stadium in North London by Jason Bell. He
did a very good job. I was there and it

(10:02):
was an amazing Jack Tag event as well. I'll tell
you what. We'll get into that and I'll talk a
little bit about what went down on the day, but
first let's hear from the NFL analyst, the former cornerback,
the former special team at Jason Bell, talking about the
Jags draft class, Jaybell, as I live and breed, I
should say, j Bell just announced a draft pick.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Yeah, funny, hilarious. I was just telling you.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
A friend of mine who was a head coach in
the NFL just sent me a text message with laughing emojis,
like what are you doing out here? So people are watching,
which is good, and that's why I told the kids.
I was like, you know, this is significant, right, somebody's
life is about to change.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
You're about to be a part of their moment. Draft
is so. I mean, the.

Speaker 5 (10:47):
Experience is unbelievable for these kids. It's just changed their
lives a lot of these players, and now we got
to share it with them.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
I mean, it's true. Jack Kaiser, who's the guy that
you announced to the linebacker from Notre Dame, he watched
that because he's been yea his entire life, entire life,
no pressure for his name, right or whatever.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
But you're right because I was thinking about that when
it was happening. You know, getting your name called, all
the work, it took, all the sacrifice of your family,
your friends, people buy you. I'm so glad the NFL
makes this an event. I'm glad the teams make it different. Right,
He's got his name announced here in London, mind blown.

(11:27):
You know, people celebrating him as a pick. That's great, man,
I'd love to see that.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
All right. So we're just in the middle of the
fourth round action. I'm having this conversation, so we don't
know who the Jacks are gonna draft and in later round.
But I feel like there are certain things that we
can talk about, certain people that we can talk about.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
I mean, some things might have happened.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Actually, my first question is my first question is give
me your reaction. Give me the thoughts that went through
your head when you saw that the Jacksonville Jaguars had
traded up from five to two.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
So you hear everybody talking about the noise right now,
it's late for us, so I'm hearing something might happen,
but you don't know. My first inclination was if something
is bruin, it better be somebody special. You better make
a splash. So when I saw that it was Travis Hunter,
I lost it. Now, obviously I'm a home teamer. I

(12:19):
love the Jaguars right they're here. I want to see
them play well. I love Trevor Lawrence. So I'm looking
at this pick with the new offensive coordinator with a
GM that's come from a mentality of hey, we got
to make bold decisions.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
And it all makes sense.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
If you're a Jacksonville fan, you're loving this. If you're
an NFL fan, who are you now going to watch
the Jacksonville Jaguars. You're gonna see what are they doing?
What's bruin? This is special. This is a generational talent
right here. Kind of player.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
People love him.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
I mean you saw how he was when he got
on stage. I mean the way he relates. I mean,
this is gonna be This is gonna be fantastic, dynamic,
not only because who he is on the field, but
the person he will be in the community.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
And you know what, we had this conversation on the
podcast a few weeks ago about you know who the if.
It had like three guys for the Jackers. You know,
like you go past, you're on the you're on the
motorway or whatever. There's a big poster and it's got
the three guys from the Jags. Well we know who
they are now, yeah, we know who they are because
Travis Hunter literally has just inserted himself into that conversation.
And you know what, I can't tell you how excited

(13:27):
that I am. I can't tell you how excited that
non Jags fans are gonna be that Travis Hunter is
gonna be playing both ways, probably in London. In London.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
This is what's so special, right we you only have
so much attention. So you're gonna watch your team. You're
a fan of that, You're gonna watch certain players. Now
you're gonna have all these players that are Travis Hunter fans,
all these fans that are that love him as a player,
They're gonna watch him. But you're gonna have so many
people and so much attention on this team because let's
not forget Trevor Lawrence is right there. He's on the

(13:59):
precipice of great I believe, in the best situation with
two receivers he has now as dynamic as this offense
can be People are going to want to watch this team.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Just talk to me a little bit about you know,
how you see him on the team? AI do you
see him? Do you think he's primarily going to be
on offense? Defense? Do you genuinely think we can see
him play a lot of snaps on both sides.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Of the goal.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
So Liam Cohen's your new head coach, right, what does
he do? He's there to fix the offense. This is
his guy. So that's where you're going to see a
lot of the attention. And remember what he's done before
in Tampa Bay. He's had an outside, big ex receiver.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
You got that.

Speaker 5 (14:44):
You got an explosive guy on the outside, that Thomas Man.
He is special. So you look at the way Chris
Godwin played for Tampa Bay.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
Now you look at.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
What Travis Hunter can do. Short area quickness, explosive playmaker.
Just get him the ball in his hand. You've seen
this formula before. You might see it duplicated again. So
I see him being on offense, being that guy, and
then you play him in different spots on defense. They
are looking for a corner still too, so that can happen.
It's gonna be all about what he can take as

(15:16):
far as volume of information, and they're gonna test him
in the training camp.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Well, actually, let's just go on that a little bit
for a second, because you know, that's what a lot
of people have said. You know, no matter which team
he joined, you're focused in one position group. You've got
that you usually have the one coach. You're in that
one room. You're gonna be splitting your time potentially if
you're gonna be the cornerback you know, you know on
an offense as well. You know how much will that
impact it?

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Do you think it's tough? It's difficult. You don't see
rookies do that because.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
You're just trying to learn. The Patriots have done it before, guys.

Speaker 5 (15:48):
I mean think of how you know, think of the
receivers they've used to play corner Okay, you know they've
done it before. I think this is where good coaching
comes in, meaning if we're going to use you in
the game plan during the week, it's specific, this is
what we are requiring you to do.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Learn this.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
We're going to call plays and put you in a
situation where these.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
Are your rules.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
We're not gonna overload you. And I think that's what's
gonna have to happen. He can handle this volume because
he's special. He's done it before. But it's about how.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
You package it and teach it to them. This is
on coaches now.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
This is why coaches are teachers who can teach him
the best and get him ready to roll because he's talented.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
I don't know if you saw the conversation as well
with Travis Hunter and James Godstone, you know, making the
call and all that.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
I like James.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
I I don't know if you've seen in recent memory,
maybe in the last few years, maybe that's someone but
a GM come in and be like, no, this is
how I'm this is how I'm doing it. I'm making
a splash. He's got this. I don't want to make
him seem like he's some other, you know, godly being whatever,
but he's got this sort of or around it, doesn't
he Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:58):
So he's worked under Lesnid when he was the RAMS,
and you hear him talk about that and that experience
and what he learned.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
You can see he's ready for the moment.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
A lot of time, it's all about preparation, and you
meet that situation and you're ready to go and he's
prepared and you can see it.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Now he's going to be judged on results. How did this?

Speaker 5 (17:16):
How does these picks? How do they turn out? How
do they play? Right now, we're celebrating it because it's splashy.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
I will say this. You see that everything is a line.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
From ownership down to the coaches, because this pick was
all about a splash. It was all about getting the
best player in there, getting attention, saying you need to
focus on our team, and that's what I love.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
You can always roll with that. It's it's a roll
of the dice.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
You don't know what's going to happen with these players,
but you gotta be willing to take a chance.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
And that's what we saw.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
All right, let's go through some of the other position
groups that have been covered over the last couple of days.
My alma mater Tulane University.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Lane. I like Tulane. I'm not a great player. That's
a nice, beautiful campus.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Look, we can talk for ten minutes, but anyway, beautiful.
I was very pleased to see two lane playing coming
footboard for the Jacksonville jack Quarns.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
You saw a lot of they went on a run
on that position too, which is is a skillful position, right,
You got to get a guy who plays there. You
got the threat of the running game, you gotta be
quick in there. It's specific skill sets you need to have.
So when you identify one of those players, you go
get him, because as we know, everybody is running five
DB's now, so you gotta have somebody who can specifically

(18:32):
play that.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Lineman as well. And what's interesting, I think, well, God,
but you know he got experience playing left tackle and
right tackle as well. Looks like we might go to
use him in different positions. And I guess when you're
the Jags and when you're looking at your offensive line,
you need someone that can do a bunch of things.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
Yeah, especially if you're the swing guy. You're not going
to be the starter. The more you can do, there's
only so many people for.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Your career as well.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Yeah, yeah, there's only so many people that can line
up on You can only have so many right on Sunday.
So the more you can do, the more positions you
can play, especially on offense. If somebody goes down, key
play guard, can you play tackle? But this is all
about protecting your quarterback, right. One thing about Trevor. Sometimes
he's a long strider in the pocket. When he steps up,
you do not want that pressure in his face. Those

(19:15):
guards have to be sturdy and stout, and that's why
you go out and try to get.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
One linebacker of course, and a running back as well.
Let's just touched on the running back room as well,
because new running back for Jaguars and another we've obviously
got Travis tn Junior there as well. Looks like it's
going to be an interesting room there.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah, what you're trying to do is you're trying to
get talented young players that fit your ethos, you know,
fit how you want to be identified, how do you work?
Because those guys are going to go out there and
even if they're not starters, how are they getting you
prepared each week? And when you think about it as
a GM and a team builder, that's what you're trying
to do. You're trying to build this identity of who

(19:55):
we are, how we go about our business, and it
starts with these young players that are going to be
on your ros that if they don't, they might have
to contribute.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
And when they do and they're ready to go, what
do they look like?

Speaker 5 (20:06):
How do they approach it and you're and that's why
you're picking personalities that fit this profile. That is the
identity of the team, and that's what we are going
to see.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Well, that's what James Gottstein's been all about. He's talking
about the personality, he's intangibles, you know and all of that. Okay,
so full rounds down. How you feeling about the Jags?
Is there any position groups you'd like to have seen
them go for?

Speaker 5 (20:28):
You know what, it's all about the splash man. You know,
when you start to look at how they're building, anything
that happens, we're going.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
To evaluate throughout the season.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
Like I love the game, I love watching the draft,
but I am a week in week out kind of
like this matchup. Who are we playing? Who's producing? So
when I look at this team in week eight, you
know what young players are stepping up, What guys have
they drafted that have had to get them through a
game or they're a surprise. Now with Travis Hunter, it's
all about how they use him, how unique he is,

(20:58):
how they showcase his skins set, and because of that,
you gotta look at this draft and it's an a
only because for me, it's attention. It's an a for attention, man.
That is important. We are going to be locked in
to see what this team is doing, the same way
we were when they drafted Trevor. We're gonna see that

(21:20):
all over again.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
So that means I'm gonna leting done this. Just tell
me this. How hot to you to see Travis Hunter
in London?

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Oh my gosh? Hey man, So we know the same people.
I know some people that work for him. I am
going to be asking for some favors. I'm gonna be like,
come on, man, like I know it's people that do
a lot of his marketing stuff. My friend actually owns
the company, Michael Strahan. So i'mna be like stray please sorry.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Yeah, your friend Michael stra Boy.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
He's point. He comes out here all the time.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Man.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
You know what I'm saying me and straight, that's my guy, man,
that's my boy.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
So yeah, you're gonna ask him, man, let me let
me get that interview, man, because it's everybody's gonna want
to talk to this kid. And uh, he's so friendly,
so dynamic, so explosive. I'm I'm just think of how
lucky we are. Lucky, man, I mean, this is what
we do. My guy Jason.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Bell, who I think it's said to say quite excited
about Travis Hunt being a jag Quite excited. I mean
I am as well, And this is what I mentioned
to him. Quite excited about seeing Travis Hunt to play
at Wembley Stadium two key, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
I mean I've never seen j Bell not excited about
to see that.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
He is excited about this.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
And it was an amazing day as well, because obviously
the draft pick, you know, happened from Stone Next Stadium,
But it was an amazing day of jag Tag UK with
the AO as well.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Because Jay, was it your first drag Tag experience?

Speaker 1 (22:47):
I don't know if it was my first jag Tag experience.
It might have been. I mean my memory is not
very good, to be honest with you, it might have been.
But what actually I tell you my big the big
thing that I really took from that event, And this
is going to sound dumb, This is going to sound
really dumb. It's well, is how unbelievably talented these players are.
We're talking like kids that are, like, you know, ten

(23:08):
eleven years old. They are throwing the ball much like
better than you know, anybody I know, quite genuinely they
are extremely like talented flag football players and you know
there was a Baffer clinic that was going on at
the same time. Yes, amazing to see, like, you know, well,
this is this is something that maybe you could do

(23:30):
in the future if you wanted to. You know, it
was an amazing day just to see these really talented
players from all around the UK go to to you know,
were Saracen's player as well. It's an amazing stadium and
be part of the draft experience, you know, being in
the background of when j Bell did his pick as well.
So you know, amazing for them. Yeah, amazing for me

(23:51):
as well to be able to watch it and just
be kind of like in awe of how genuinely talented
these players are.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
What a fantastic for them, what a fantastic experience the thing, right,
So I've been going to see Jagtag for quite a
few years now, I think, like I can't remember how
many years, but quite a few years and talking to
Andy Scott, we've had him on the podcast Grassroots UK.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
One of the ideas.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Is that they have a journey to go on, so
they start off with Jagtag then can go to Baffer
Clinics and then potentially you know, Olympics further down the
line for flag and all of this sort of thing.
And the fantastic thing is it's not just talk. You
see it happening. We're not because I've been going for
a few years. You see it happening. You see these

(24:41):
kids getting better and better and better and progressing and
taking this journey. And to see that happening and it
not just being something that we've been talking about, unbelievable. Man.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
And like you say, some of these kids are really good.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Yeah, they are really good. And also I think it
was quite funny that, you know, almost the nonchalance almost
because it's just normal to them for scoring these amazing touchdowns.
There was an amazing one was it was a last
second play and it was a touchdown from the other
end of the field that I watched, and I was
just like, this is I was quite jealous. I was

(25:17):
quite envious that I didn't do it when I was younger,
do you know what I mean? Because it just looked
like so much fun as well.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
All right, next week Jamie and you in the park.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Okay, I feel like we need to get back to
draft talk. And there's somebody that we need to speak
to because we have a big question every every episode,
don't we on the podcast? This time we're going to
be doing the big question. I love it. Jamie Phillips
joins us. Jamie is our International Fan of the Year.
Jamie we announced it him on the podcast two episodes

(25:49):
ago that he was going to the draft. He is back.
What is our big question?

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Key, Jamie Phillips Jaguars International Fan of the Year.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
How was the draft man?

Speaker 6 (26:02):
Still recovering right now. But it was a phenomenal experience.
Everything was just just amazing. I kind of kind of
put into words kind of what a great week I've
had over in Green Bay, meeting so many great like
minded fans from the Jaguars to every other thirty one

(26:23):
teams that was there as well, with fans from the US,
from the UK, Australia, Canada, Brazil. It's just been a great,
great experience.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Number one highlight, Jamie number one gives.

Speaker 6 (26:35):
Us number one highlight. There's obviously a million highlights in there,
you could say. Obviously actually doing a draft pick that
is obviously huge in itself, But for me, I think
is the kind of the global picture that's circulated everywhere
of us picking up Travis Hunter, and the very first
thing he did after being picked was coming joining us
in the Jaguars in a circle area and having that huge,

(26:58):
huge sealfie picture. And there's my crazy mug face right
behind him, like shouting and cheering, losing my voice, just going.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
Wild and just being in that moment in that selfie picture.

Speaker 6 (27:10):
And I see the Jaguars have used that picture now
as their profile picture with half of my eye everybody
else around it. It's still in that picture. So that
picture's obviously had millions and millions of you. So I'll
take that. That's my claim to fame. One eye, my
left eye.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
But you know that's the bit that everyone's talking about
actually in that picture as well, so you should you know,
they're really saying, well that I left.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Oh and look there's the Travis Hunter.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Yeah yeah, but really the left eye, yeah is yeah.

Speaker 7 (27:37):
That stands out more than the pink suit he was wearing.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
That's it. That's it, I mean, it must have been.
Actually tell us your reaction. Tell us reaction when you
saw I, presumably up on the screen that the Jags
had traded up. Tell us what went through your mind?

Speaker 6 (27:54):
Everything was just just so crazy. Obviously, you're put into
this area of the inner circle amongst all the other fans,
and there's fifteen of US Jaguars fans obviously altogether in
this little group, everyone's all hight and we sat next
to Titans because you sat in your divisions, so Titans
are next to us, and obviously they're the first pick,

(28:15):
and they're all getting excited. There's cameras all surrounded them,
and then it starts to kind of mellow down just
a little bit, and it's all kind of a bit chilled,
and then the next moment, someone's tapping on your shoulder
and going the Jackets have traded up, the Jaggers are
traded up, and like then it just goes wild because
it's like, we're gonna get Dravis's Hunter. We're gonna take
Dravis's Hunter. And everyone's going insane because we don't know
we're gonna get Travis's Hunter because that hasn't been announced yet.

Speaker 7 (28:37):
I'll see, we're waiting for the pick.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
To be announced, but we're presuming that's what's happening, and
the excitement that we've traded up and we don't know
what we've lost at this stage, we don't know what
we've traded away, and we we didn't care because we've
just picked up this obvi see second pick. So the
cameras obviously move away from the Titans, and they just
instantly just literally in your face. You're talking ten twelve
cameras just literally there like ESPN, Fox, every single camera

(28:59):
is just there and watching your reactions. We're all stood there,
all so excitedly, like shouting, cheering. We've got we've got
these giant billboards, which therefore us I had a big
duval sign. Everyone's all holding those, and there's Trevor Lawrence
signs and stuff. And then obviously we have Eric Armstead
come out. We've obviously give him some great duvals and

(29:20):
if you watch back on the video of that actual pick,
he actually looks over to his left and he's actually
looking at us. They's reacting to us kind of shouting
and cheering him as well because we're excited to see him.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
And obviously then he announced.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
The pick, and then the whole theater just goes insane.
It's not just just the Jaguars kind of area going insane,
just the whole stage area, just everywhere is just going wild.
And see Travis Hunter comes out does his thing, and
we've all still got the cameras around us, and it
all goes insane. And then yeah, then obviously Travis then
comes down on the down the stairs like I said,

(29:53):
and then he comes over and has that stealthy and
we're just then we're just honestly, it's just wild. We
know we haven't got any other picks for the rest
of the night, but we're all.

Speaker 7 (30:00):
On such us and it was just insane.

Speaker 6 (30:03):
We'd pop off to so the toilet or afterwards, and
everybody's just coming up to you and go them jegs
eh like and just.

Speaker 7 (30:10):
Literally just wanting to talk about what we've done.

Speaker 6 (30:12):
And everybody was annoyed that they didn't get Travis and
we're the one that made that blockbus to trade to
get get the guy everybody is basically talking about.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
So that was just so surreal.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Jamie, what do you think it says to go away
from the experience of it a little bit, I want
to know what you think it says about what this
organization is trying to do and trying to say for
the twenty twenty five season. What does that specifically that
moved to trade and pick Travis Hunt.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
What does it say for us?

Speaker 6 (30:42):
I think it means to me an absolute business. We're
not here to just do what the script says. We're
here to make a statement ourselves, and I think it's
the right thing to have done. I don't think anybody
predicted it. I mean, I've seen rumors that apparently there
was talks about two weeks to go, but I hadn't

(31:03):
heard a single word of that even potentially happening. I
know when we did my announcement on here, you had
rees on and he said we're going to get Travis Hunter.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
But yeah, it was it's almost annoying that he knew,
do you know what I mean?

Speaker 6 (31:18):
Absolutely so it never came into anybody's minds that were
going to make this absolute bold move. So I think
that's absolutely something that they needed to do to show
that they mean business and they aren't just going to
settle into the league and just do what the league
tells them to do.

Speaker 7 (31:34):
If that makes sense, that just does does the norm.
They've gone and just made that.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
Huge bold statement of see trading up to the second
the second pick, which is something that we don't be well,
we're very rarely.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
Done in kind of the history of kind of the draft, so.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Big stage of it. I also think it's kind of
cool when you know you're looking forward to, you know what,
it's a big night. You know, you're already looking forward
to you know anything, really and then somehow it seeds
your expectations because something you know amazing happens that you
didn't you know, think was going to happen. I think
that's a really good example of it. Tell us about
the rest of your experience, Jamie, and what else you did,

(32:10):
and you know, and what else you did draft wise
as well.

Speaker 6 (32:13):
Yeah, so as part of the part of the whole experience.
So the very first day we had a Q and
A with Roger Goodell. Unfortunately I was unable to ask
him the question of what we'd have inside the stadium
the ludicrous ball pitch. There was no opportunity to ask
him that question, which.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Probably a good thing wouldn't fit in the plans are
going very well for it.

Speaker 6 (32:38):
Yeah, So that's how the whole event kicked off, which
obviously just a great start to the whole week. Then
on the first day before even the first day of
the draft, we had a draft theater tour, so we
got to get up on stage, how some good picture opportunities,
and we got to learn a little bit more about
just the whole theater and the setup itself and how

(32:59):
long it's taken Green Bay to set up. Then we
was able to go backstage and go and see the
green room where the where you would have seen all
the prospects were staying. We won't allowed to take any pictures,
but we was in that room with them and we
saw how it was all kind of furnished and stuff.

Speaker 7 (33:13):
And then we got to do the nice walk.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
Down the down a bit where it's got all the
wooden plaques of all the logo. We've got to do
the walk down there as well on that first day,
and even that alone was just just phenomenal, and that
was just the start of the events. Then after that
we then checked in for the day. Actually is a
part of the experience of the draft. We then got

(33:37):
to do a red carpet walk, so actually in Lambeau Field,
right by the side of the field in the stadium,
we got to do red carpet walk where we was
putting our.

Speaker 7 (33:47):
Clusters of fans.

Speaker 6 (33:50):
So I was with the fan of the Year, Melissa
and obviously myself an international Fan of the Year. We
was introduced with lots of people sat in the stands
and they introduced us and allowed us to videos and
stuff as we did a red carpet walk and had
a good picture opportunity and stuff there as well.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
What's lambeau Field feel like? Does it? Can you feel
history there?

Speaker 6 (34:10):
Yeah, it's it's it's insane, Like it's just so surreal.
They don't have chairs like the stadium, they're just just
all benches.

Speaker 7 (34:20):
It just feels so naturally old.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
It's it's crazy and if you haven't done it before,
if anybody hasn't done it before, I definitely would recommend it.
I was fortunate to actually have a tour on the
following days. On the Friday evening we did get like
a back of house tour of lambeau Field and we've
got to see the history of all of the basically
how it's just expanded, and we saw the old concrete

(34:43):
building when it was twenty levels high and then all
the expansions which is all paid for by by the fans.
So all the fans that they they had pride in
telling us that they're all shareholders of the packers, which
in the shareholder means absolutely nothing in monetary value, but
the fact that they can say they're a shareholder of
the stadium and they've helped develop whatever it is an

(35:05):
extra five thousand seats in the stadium, or they've developed
by adding a box here, and they're into the hospitality
and stuff like that.

Speaker 7 (35:13):
It's it's just amazing.

Speaker 6 (35:14):
And to see all the names of the Hall of
Famers around the side of the side of the stadium
on the when you're on the inside, it's just it's
just absolutely great to see. Then after that first day,
we then had obviously the draft, which we can just
blow over that now because we're.

Speaker 7 (35:29):
Discussed about how great the first day was.

Speaker 6 (35:31):
And then the next day we then got to do
a tour of the draft selection room.

Speaker 7 (35:35):
So we've got to go into the room kind of.

Speaker 6 (35:38):
Where all kind of the magic happens that you don't
actually see, and there's like a team of twenty odd
people all sat there with obviously video call video phones
and lawyers et cetera, et cetera, dealing with trades and stuff.
So getting to see that was also just a huge
opportunity to kind of see how kind of the engine
room really kind of runs for the NFL draft, and

(35:59):
they got to tell about a few stories when if
someone doesn't put a draft pick in that people can
bump up your order. So it's great to kind of
hear all that as well. And we also had an
opportunity to meet the international Pathway players as well, so
they was there and we had an opportunity to chat
with them. So to chat with the two British guys
that are amongst the amongst the crowd in there is

(36:20):
really really good and obviously they're excited at the thought
that they could potentially be draft or get selected, but
this weekend just gone so really good to have a
chat with them as well, which really kind of brought
it home a little bit as well, if that makes sense.
So we've been put on this experience and obviously it's
the American dream we'll get in this draft, but to
actually see, like speaking to one of the guys who

(36:42):
lives in who was from like Nottingham Spolding area, you know,
it's just like it's absolutely great to kind of see
their kind of living that dream as well and just
being a part of that kind of process, which was
just absolutely absolutely phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
I mean, I mean just just quickly on him because
his name's Mas Mwanza. Yeah yeah, he got into playing
American football whilst at UNI and just watched like Last
Chance You And now he's joined the Carolina Panthers, which
is mad, crazy crazy.

Speaker 6 (37:11):
Yeah, absolutely insane. Stories from all five of the individuals
that we met. Actually there was a couple ossly from
like Australia and stuff as well, and just that their
stories were all the same and they were just very
normal guys, like you never just played rugby and someone
said we should go along and try playing this and
I played a bit of madder and now here they
are like in the at the NFL stage after trying

(37:32):
to play American football for literally just a year.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
So absolutely mental really, So what was your highlight then?
Do you think of the whole whole experience the one highlight, the.

Speaker 6 (37:41):
One highlight I'll see, as I've already mentioned obviously, the
Cherry Hunter thing is probably is the biggest thing for me.
If you wanted to set the draft sort of element aside,
I would say just the people of green Bay absolutely amazing.
Absolutely everybody was completely like consider it polite with I'll
see the algorithms of Facebook et cetera. When you see

(38:04):
in Green Bay, you see local news and feeds and
stuff as well.

Speaker 7 (38:08):
There was one arrest the whole weekend.

Speaker 6 (38:10):
From what we've seen, just everybody there was just it's
so well behaved. It's just a lovely, clean city, and
just the local people were just phenomenal. We went out
in ubers and an Uber driver took us out for breakfast,
didn't charge for the Uber and paid for the breakfast
as well. Took us to a local spot and paid

(38:30):
for our breakfast.

Speaker 7 (38:31):
Also.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
I mean, that's the most shocking thing of this whole episode.

Speaker 6 (38:36):
That's that just puts into context that the way that
people were there and.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
One stuff your highlights.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
How did you not lead with that?

Speaker 1 (38:45):
I want to I had a good time at the draft,
but the Uber driver, that is.

Speaker 7 (38:51):
Crazy, Sean, if you wanted to know shortened.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
From Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Uber driver, Yeah, wow, uh
it was crazy.

Speaker 6 (39:01):
I did obviously announce that when I did my when
I did my pick, obviously on the stage on day three,
I did reference to the local Green Bay and I
mentioned a couple of their their items that they're really
proud of there, just to kind of get the crowd
on board, because I couldn't deal with the booing of
over two hundred thousand fans that are in attendance, like

(39:21):
a couple of my friends who obviously I met through
the International Fan of the Year, So I shout out, Kimmy,
she's Chicago Bears.

Speaker 7 (39:27):
International Fan of the Year.

Speaker 6 (39:28):
Obviously, she went out to a crazy amount of booze,
obviously being a Bears fan, and perhaps off to her
being able to go out and deal with that, and
she rocked it how she did with her experience, and
she kept the booze going on purpose and with some
of the things actually said on stage. I couldn't do that.
So I had to have them on side and get
a cheer from them before I announced our draft picks.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
So I think that's a way to do it. My friend,
my friend Dan, as a Packers fan, and he did
the draft pick last year when it was in Detroit,
and he was geeking it up, getting as many booze
as possible the ball, and I was thinking, I don't
think that my ego could take it.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
Someone's got to play here.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
Bro, Jamie. Look, I cannot tell you, first of all
how jealous I am. I'm going to speak on behalf
of key as well. How jealous we are, but how
how good we feel that you got to experience that delighted.
It just sounds like a week of joy.

Speaker 6 (40:28):
To say yeah and special thanks to you guys. It
was you guys that announced it. You guys have kind
of been here along the whole way and it's been
it's been great. I can't obviously thank you guys and
the organization enough for this opportunity.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
Jamie, who do you of course, man, who did you
take with you?

Speaker 6 (40:44):
Took fellow Jacks fan Darren Darren Abbott decided to take
him along.

Speaker 7 (40:49):
I thought it was the right thing to do.

Speaker 6 (40:50):
I did mention on the previous part about not bringing
my wife, which wasn't going to go down very well.

Speaker 7 (40:57):
But it's still being very.

Speaker 6 (40:59):
True and honestly, day it wouldn't have been the right
thing to take my wife. As much as she would
have loved a trip to Green Bay doing the whole
NFL thing, she's not into that sort of stuff. It
was very long, like there was a lot going on,
and then Jaguars went like ninety odd picks without and
without a pick basically, especially on day three. Day one

(41:20):
to day two, there was like eighty odd places we
had to wait, so my wife was sat there, I'd
be consciously having to worry and think about her. So
I thought the only right thing to do was to
bring another fan to just experience the same as what
I want to experience.

Speaker 1 (41:34):
And kind of get Darren's the real winner then, isn't
he a Darren's the real winner? Like, yeah, Darren is.
We should be like credit to Darren. He just to
go on a trip to Wisconsin to the draft.

Speaker 7 (41:47):
I mean videos of me and cheer me on when
I go on stage. What we had to do.

Speaker 1 (41:51):
Yeah, Jamie, look, thank you so much for coming on
to your talk. We are so happy that you got
to experience that. And I mean it just sounds like
just sounds like a bucket list item, just a big
bucket list item just sort of ticked off. So we
are unbelievably happy that you've got to experience that.

Speaker 6 (42:11):
Man, Yeah, it was. It was obviously absolutely great. I've
brought back some great little bits of memorabilia from.

Speaker 7 (42:17):
The Yeah you gottah, So I kept my in front
of me, my draft, put.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
It to camera. This is why you've got this is
why you've got to watch if you're not watching on
YouTube right now as well. You've got to get on
YouTube so you can see. You can see the draft
pick that Jamie did that is framable on the wall.

Speaker 3 (42:39):
You've got to get that signed.

Speaker 6 (42:40):
Man is trying to reach out to Rayon Lane as well,
so we'll see if it gets back to me or.

Speaker 1 (42:47):
Oh I do hear that the Jacks do and they
do turn up in London every now and again, so
you know.

Speaker 7 (42:53):
Hope, I've already said that. Hopefully is there.

Speaker 6 (42:56):
That's that's how I led with the message I messaged
you on Instagram. He hasn't read it yet, so I
hope he's just so busy with all these nests received.
But yeah, I've already reached out to him and said
I'm looking forward to meet you in London when you
come over for the game.

Speaker 1 (43:09):
So that's it. That's it. Jamie, thanks so much for
coming on today. I really appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (43:15):
Thank you for having me back on and I'll catch
up with you all soon.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
Well, a wonderful guy, incredibly jealous experience. Could you tell.
It's just an incredible thing to do, and the amount
of things that he did their key as well, It
wasn't just oh, let's go and experience the draft. It
was all of the things that he did whilst he
was there while so of him saying and then we
did this, and then we did that, and then we
did it, and then he went and that was day one.

(43:42):
And that's not even including the fact that he did
a draft pick as well. So it was just, yeah,
unbelievable few days. Unbelievable few days for Jags fans I
think around the world, especially unbelievable a few days for
mister Jamie Phillips too, and his mate, particularly his mate.
You've just got to go, I mean, like you just
got you want to come to a draft. I think

(44:05):
that that probably wraps up the podcast today, Key, And
I think it's fair to say that we went through
quite a lot.

Speaker 3 (44:11):
Been a good one.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
I'm sure that we've probably missed quite a lot as
well at the same time, probably, but it's it's just
what happens with a when it comes to the draft,
doesn't it. But I think I can speak speak on
behalf of Jags fans in the UK and Ireland around
the world. What a few days, Key, what a few days?

Speaker 2 (44:31):
What a few days? I honestly, and I'm not just
saying it. I haven't come out of a draft weekend
feeling as excited and impressed as I have for maybe
maybe ever.

Speaker 1 (44:43):
Honestly, yeah, yeah, I agree. Now, look, we're going to
be back at the end of May, aren't we.

Speaker 3 (44:48):
Key.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
This has been a shooting shark production for Jacksonville Jankuars
