Speaker 1 (00:09):
It's twenty degrees here in London.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
In Jacksonville, it's but actually we're gonna find out in
a moment. As its edition of Teal Talk, it's a
little bit different as seventy five percent of it is
in Duval County. Right now, I'm Jay Lawrence, no relation.
This is TILL Talk, the official Jacksonville Jaguars UKN Island podcast,
presented by Gallagher, Key, Ram Suran, Hello, Reese Parkinson, JP
(00:34):
Shadrick all joining from Jacksonville. And we have a little
known guy coming on the podcast. Some have not called
him a unicorn. Travis Hunter is appearing on teal Talk today. Look,
let me introduce you guys now Key JP. Ree's first question,
what's the temperature?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
It is five thousand degrees, Jay No, I think it's
like thirty three thirty three degrees.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
That would be eighty eight degrees fahrenheit currently here in
Neptune Beach. A little cooler here on the coast than
it is in the middle of Jacksonville. You can add
about five degrees downtown just because of the seed breeze
here on the coastline. But we've got a beautiful day
out here, guys. The sun is out, there's no clouds,
the seots are blowing in the breeze and the sand
dunes behind us. We're at the Lemon Bar in Neptune Beach,
(01:23):
which is a hotel bar set up right here on
the dunes, and it's a perfect day for it, a
little warm, but this is another just another day here
in Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
That makes me feel really angry because you know when
you appear, because I can see you, guys, when you appear,
first thing I see is palm trees, grease. And also
before we even get even to Jags or Travis Hunter, grees.
Can you stop posting Instagram pictures if you having a
walk on the beach. It's infuriating, of it is, I'm livid,
(01:54):
I'm jealousy.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
You know, coming from the UK. As soon as we
all see sun and beach, we are unbearable. So that's
exactly what I'm trying to be this week as much
as possible, just as unbearable as possible.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Reese is the guy that's taking a photo of his
feet in the sand.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
Immediately, he's the king of the pain.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Holidays holidays, JP. How rude.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
But you know what, actually that flows in quite well
because I think you said you said something on Instagram,
didn't you reas about how it feels like when you
go by.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
The sea and have a walk on the beach.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
It just feels like there's a fresh energy within you,
doesn't it? And I feel like that's a really perfect
thing to say about the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp by
all sounds key.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
So here's the thing, Jay, I feel like JP is
here to kind of subdue my childlike enthusiasm today because
I'm there at training camp and I'm getting incredibly excited.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Fresh energy is the word.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
It feels like new regime. It feels like everyone is
ready to go. I've heard the word detail used a lot,
which is really exciting. But it seems fast and furious,
and yeah, I'm very excited.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Well, JP, you've been to ten thousand training camps. How
does this one? How does this one feel for you?
Speaker 7 (03:17):
I mean, I.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Think there's vibes, let's say that's a good word for it.
But to key your point, we've seen vibes before in
training camp around here.
Speaker 7 (03:28):
In different regimes.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
This is different.
Speaker 7 (03:30):
It is very different.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
With Tony Boselli involved, James Gladstone's seems legit and had
a really good off season, and Liam Cohen has his
act together and seems to have, at least early in
his regime, now the.
Speaker 7 (03:43):
Respect of the team. So that's a good start. It's
a great start in.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Fact, so far, everything they did in the off season
building up the training camp a plus. Now it gets
real because the football is about to get released.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
JP. I've like got a question for you in terms
of I've tried to figure out the last few days whenever,
you know, being kind of lucky enough to come here
in the last two years as well, how do you
know if training camp is going well? And I say
that because you're kind of sign online and I saw,
like I think the Giants new QB Jackson dart through
like his first pass was a pick, and everyone's like training,
(04:17):
He's training comes awful. But how do you know? When
I'm watching it, I'm like, what you've judging off? How
do you know before we've seen the first game? Can
can you even? How do you see it?
Speaker 7 (04:26):
Yeah? It's overreaction central and training. It's the way it
goes the world, no doubt about it. Oh my gosh.
Trevor Lawrence tipball picked six by a one armed.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Linebacker on yeh Friday, I'm losing track of the days already.
It's a training camp practice. A lot of times there
are certain situations and scenarios that the offense might be
working on and the defense hasn't put their full scheme in. Okay,
maybe it's just a vanilla defense where okay, we're not
scheming against this group.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
So you just don't get a fair assessment.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
And that's why anybody who keeps training camp statistics of
completions and attempts and yards, it doesn't make any sense
because you don't know exactly what they might be working
on from period to period throughout the two hours or whatever.
We'll get to about two hours and twenty minutes when
it gets full go, that could change period by period,
So you know, if you'll you'll notice it really a
(05:21):
lot when the when the pads go on Monday and Tuesday,
that's when you really get to start to see the
offensive and defensive lines and who will emerge for some
spots on the offensive line and the starting lineup that's
not a done deal yet, and you'll see how the
defensive line guys came back to camp. Are they in shape,
what can they bring to a one on one matchup,
(05:42):
and you just build that over the days and weeks
of training camp and the preseason games, and then you
start to figure out the roster and the starting lineups
and things from that.
Speaker 7 (05:51):
So that's what I look for.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
It's not necessarily points or yards or you know, you
don't want the football on the ground a lot.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
There's a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
What's gonna happen, right, especially if it's a defensive day
where they're scheming some stuff and the offense is not
quite that. Hey, the defense might have the upper hand
sometimes and vice versa if the offense is working on
something the defense is. So it's just kind of a
match up day to day, almost period to period thing.
So overreaction is rampant this time of year throughout the NFL.
Speaker 7 (06:24):
Jacksonville two. Just call a little.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Bit, let it play out, and then you'll see it
once the you know, later in training camp, you'll see
the team periods eleven on eleven work. You'll start to
see that balance out. Okay, if that balance is out, hey,
defense is having some good reps, offense has some some
big plays. Until that's a good balance going in.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
It's not. We've had that before and have lost fifteen games,
so like.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Are you looking for progression on your JP? You're looking
for progression. I mean, this is the start of training camp.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I mean you want you want to go into training
camp with a good grasp of what you're trying to
do on offense, a new scheme, but then you want
to see some chemistry develop with receivers in the running
game and everything as it goes along, and just build up.
You don't want to hit your stride now we're not
even into August yet. First games in September, so you
want to hit your stride in September as a team,
(07:15):
as an offense, defensive scheme and all that, so there's
room to grow.
Speaker 7 (07:19):
That's what training campus for.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I hear what you're saying about overreaction, but the team
do look the best they've ever looked right.
Speaker 7 (07:30):
Saturday, JP.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
What I was going to ask on a serious note,
I know it's early days. Is there anyone that you've
noticed is hitting stride and you're excited about any new
additions that you think, oh, looking nice?
Speaker 7 (07:42):
Well, I mean this is the easy one.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
I mean you can see Travis Hunter run around on
the offensive side, and that excites you because of his
ability after the catch, the stop and start ability is explosiveness.
And then on the defensive side, we've only seen him
on one day on defense and that was on Friday.
I'm gonna guess he'll go back on defense on Sunday
(08:05):
as well and kind of flip flop as it goes.
There'll be a couple of days where he probably does
both in a practice, switches jerseys out and things, but
you can see his ability and his explosive.
Speaker 7 (08:16):
Skill what he can do with his hands.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
I think on Friday, you know, there was some moments
in teamwork in the red zone. They did a lot
of red zone work on it. So there was one play,
the first play I saw him out there, there's a
tied end that runs in and then breaks back out
to the pylon and the goal line and left Travis
in the middle of the field like just didn't see
it coming. Took what was a little aggressive following him
(08:38):
inside and it burned him and the guy scores a touchdown.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
That happens. It's the first day.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
On defense and training camp, right, but there's something there
and his work ethics there to go learn both sides,
and you know what if they have to reel it
back later, okay, so be it. Let him do everything now.
They have a great plan in place, and see what happens.
And if they have to pull him back and pull
the reins a little bit, they will. I like him
a lot. I like the speed of Diamy Brown.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Nice, that's been fun to watch, at least early against
you know, no pads and things. And then on the
defensive side, the defensive backs had a really good day
on Friday. A lot of deflected balls, a couple of
interceptions in the red zone. Chot Mama, Reese's friend Minebacker
had the one arm band and had the catch right.
He has a club on his right hand and got
the deflected ball. I mean, so there's there was some
(09:27):
good defensive plays.
Speaker 7 (09:28):
So that's what we're talking about the mix.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Yeah, and it's like we said, it's a build up period.
They're not wearing pads yet. Really, Monday Tuesday is when
we're gonna find out a whole.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Lot on Travis Hunter Reese.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
It seems like he's having a good time as well,
like body language wise, he seems to be enjoying himself.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Yeah, it's so funny. Like I was looking back to
last year where JP, would you know, tell me Reese,
we are weeks away from the draft please And I
won't say the exact words, shut up talking about Javins Hunter.
But I was like, when you have the generational players, obviously,
like you were saying, JP, the players don't care about that.
(10:07):
They're trying to win every game. But obviously, as a
you're kind of thinking like what I was thinking, Oh,
if it does work out like that, we could be
able to get him and then to trade up for
him was pretty amazing. But the one thing I said
to him before we actually sat down with him was
you remember that first game Colorado TCU.
Speaker 7 (10:25):
I called the game on radio.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
I was there that first game. The height around it
felt like the media wanted Colorado to fail or Dion
to foul or I think the alter was something like
they gave TCU forty points or something crazy like that.
Speaker 7 (10:41):
It wasn't that many.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
It's a huge number, but TCU had gone to the
National Championship Game the year before and they had lost
to Georgia. They got blown out by Georgia in that game,
like sixty something to set. That was ridiculous. But they
had a lot of that team back, not the starting quarterback.
They were missing some key players. But then here comes
Colorado with an new coaching Dion. All these transfer guys
(11:02):
coming in, like it was like forty something incoming transfers,
which at that time was unheard of in college football,
and a lot of them from at the FCS level,
the level below the Football Both subdivision. So it's like, oh, okay,
can these guys really hang? But then you realized you
remembered and the prep it's like, oh, wait a minute.
Travis Hunter was a five star, which is the top
(11:25):
tier recruit out of high school, and was committed to
Florida State and on the last day before signing day,
Dion stole him to go to Jackson State in the
Championship Subdivision. So that talent has always been there. It's
always there. It was there in recruiting, it was there
in one DOUBLEA now called FCS. And then he shows
up in Fort Worth in the road game. It's like, oh,
(11:46):
wait a minute. And it didn't take long. A couple
of players you're like, Oh, that's that's why he was.
Speaker 7 (11:51):
A five star recruit.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
The way he moves, the way he reacted to the
football's I think that day reci had eleven catches yep,
and he had an interception which was he broke off
this guy jumped the round on the running back, insane
diving catch. I mean he was all over the field
and it was a back and forth game and Colorado
won the game.
Speaker 7 (12:09):
Is shocked college football.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
And that was the thing. And the question was people
were asking him them and the media was saying them,
we're in college football. It can he do both ways?
Can he do it? Can he do it on a
stage like this? So before the interac asked him, you know,
do you feel anything about them saying the same thing
now in the NFL, and he has such this relaxed
demeanor where he's so confident, not arrogantly confident, where it's
(12:34):
going to put in your face, but it's like he knows,
he has that conviction that he knows he can and
I think that comes out when we speak to him.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Yeah, you had hold it there, hold it there, because
you know, should we just hear from him. Let's hear
from him now, shall we? Reese sat down with Travis Hunter.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Travis Hunter said to me, brother, great, how are you doing.
I'm really well. It feels like we're family. I'm a
conord of Buffalo fans as well, and I feel like
we're distant cousins in some sense. I'm claiming your family.
I got you, I got you.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
That's good.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
Well, I've practice here in Jacksonville. What's it been like
so far and does it feel like home already?
Speaker 8 (13:17):
Yeah, it's been feeling like, you know, I'm from here.
Probably like four hours is my hometown away from here,
so I'm from here. It's been great out there with
the guys, just learning the new stuff, new techniques and
learning the playbook.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
It's been great for me.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Well, it does feel serendipitous in a sense of I know,
I remember seeing a clip where you came to the
stadium and you're like, I'm coming here. Did you feel
like it just made sense?
Speaker 8 (13:41):
Yeah, it definitely makes sense.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
It felt like when I was back in college.
Speaker 8 (13:44):
It felt like it was something special for me because
I've never been in the NFL stadium for real, so
it's like kind of my first stadium to actually play in.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
And how do you feel when it feels like a
lot of people fans of media, we'll talk about, oh
can you do it two way? In the NFL? I'm
like yes, But for you, do you feel like you
still have to prove that or are you kind of
I know I can do it, so I'm just going
to do it.
Speaker 7 (14:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (14:08):
I don't feel like I have to prove anything to anybody.
I just go out there and just be myself. If
I felt like I had to do something for someone else,
it's just not for me. So I just go out
there and do my thing.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
And what's it like playing both sides in terms of
when you're an offense, you're going against the defense. When
you're on defense, you're going against the offense. How has
it been with the players in terms of that balance?
Speaker 8 (14:29):
It's been great because in the locker room where we
see across from each other, so we talk select to
each other every day. We try to help each other
as best as we can. Because at the end of
the day, with teammates and brothers.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
Who's the player that you feel like you talks back
to the most that you feel like you've got that
relationship where you can go back and forth.
Speaker 8 (14:44):
It's fribably Garran. I'll talk about to him a lot
in BT and Dummy All. We're always talking to mess
around with each other.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
So you're coming to London. You've never been to Europe before,
so this is going to be the first time. What's
your expert dis on London? And then we'll get to
the stadium as well after.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
I don't have no expectations. I just want to have
a great time and hopefully we come out.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
With a win and playing Wembley. Are you excited to
play Wembley? And have you done? I'm gonna have to
send you loads of YouTube links the historic Wembley games.
Speaker 8 (15:19):
Yeah, I'm definitely excited to play there. I just can't
wait to get there. I know it's a long flight,
but I'm definitely excited to get there. I just want
to see I just want to see how it looks
because in high school I took a German class and
we've seen a lot of pictures, so I want to
I want to see like the pictures match up with
what I'm seeing in person.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
And I have to talk to you about one thing.
Your passion for fishing. Where does it come from? And
I've never fished before. Why should people fish?
Speaker 8 (15:46):
I say people should fish.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
It's exciting.
Speaker 8 (15:48):
You know, it's a lot of patience, but when you
catch your first fish, you just get addicting. You want
to just be out there all day and show people
like I can catch the biggest fish. So it's definitely fun.
It's exciting for me, and it just comes just and chill.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
On the wa. Okay, Travis, you're gonna have to pick
one game winning touchdown game and then pick I.
Speaker 8 (16:08):
Mean, it doesn't matter to me. As long as we
win the game, that's all that matters. So I really
don't pick. I just hopefully they both come to me.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
I feel like the next time someone asks you that
you should say game winning field goal by yeah, I'm
taking the field goal. In ten years, let's say your
legacy in the league, in the game. What do you
feel like you'd love for a young Travis to think
of you when he watches you and looks at your career.
Speaker 8 (16:39):
I'd probably say that he was super confident in himself.
He didn't let anyone or people talk bad, you know,
and tell him that he couldn't do something. He just
sticked to hisself and he just continued to grind and
continue to work and didn't really talk much about it.
He just wanted to work and just have fun doing it.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
As thank you, Travis.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Reach having a conversation with Travis Hunter over in Jacksonville. Look,
we knew beforehand, didn't we. We're not only is he
a confident player, as someone who is you know, we
might see on both sides of the ball. But more
than anything else, keen fisherman, recent keen fisherman.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
He is.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
I feel like a man from JP's.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Own heart there.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
So what I mean it's he already had two boats somehow.
It tells you how well he did in college financially.
It's the new world of college football, right, So he
said he was going The first thing he was do
was gonna bring those down here because he got a
house here now. And I mean I've heard him say
before that all he does is football and fishings. So
there's plenty of places to fish here in Jacksonville in
all kind of different life. There's freshwater fishing in the river,
(17:40):
there's brackish fishing up the river close to the ocean,
and then there's saltwater out.
Speaker 7 (17:44):
In the ocean. So you got all different types.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You want to go fish for bass, you go down
south and it's just fresh water, and come up here
you get sheep's head on a little jetty. Or you
can go out deep water and get all the saltwater
fishing want. And it is a fishing paradise here. He's
gonna love it on his day's off.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
He's pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
If you do bump into him again, can you just
please let him know that we do actually have free
on till talk a fishing segment if he ever wants
to host it.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
What do you reckon?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
I'm passing that arm.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Let's ask him, I reckon if down Also, Jay, he
was incredibly excited about playing in the UK as well,
because he has a connection with Europe and I'd learned
languages and so yeah, he's very excited to blame in
the UK. His wife, I think, is up in Germany,
I'm going to say, and so he's very interested in
the history.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Well, look, you know that we do need to bring
up as well that if you don't, if you're listening
to this right now and you don't have tickets to
see Travis Hunter, to see Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium
against the La Rams yet, you can go and get them.
I'll talk a bit more about it at the moment,
but it's on October nineteenth at Wembley. If you head
to Jaguars dot co dot UK the direct link right
(18:53):
there to get to your tickets. So we've spoken about
Travis Hunter, let's speak about some of the other people
that you've managed to catch up with, Key Reese, JP,
let's go with should we go with my cousin Trevor?
Shall he Trevor Lawrence? What's new with him? How is he?
Speaker 1 (19:09):
You know, what's he looking like in training camp?
Speaker 5 (19:11):
Go on, Reese, Well, I think the first thing we
need to address is when I asked him what was
it like changing nappies? He went, yea, I'll call them nappies,
So that was interesting. I think it's really interested him
mix in fatherhood with football. I feel like he's found
a really nice balance there and he spoke about that,
(19:33):
which was great. We asked him about Brian Thomas Junior
and now having another weapon in Travis, and you can
tell he was genuinely, very very excited by that. But
I think the main part I took from him was
with coach Cohen coming in, he he kind of leant
into having clear direction and deeply understanding each scheme and
(19:57):
that seems to be a main focus that he's getting
from the OC and coach Cohen as well, and that
really came through. He just kept going back to just
know what we're doing on each play, and not on
a service level, but really understand what you're trying to.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
Do using the word detail, haven't they.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Yeah, Yeah, And that goes back to and maybe this
is something interesting. I'm not sure if you've noticed this
JP since he's been here, but when we spoke to
Coach Cohen as well, we've got the opportunity to speak
to coach. He was like, I basically just want to
speak to each player as a human being. And I
don't know if that's maybe an age thing. Younger slightly
(20:35):
younger coach, and he's not going to come at them
like a kind of older.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Very different Tony Pselli and Tom Coughlin, I'll put it
that way.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
What do you think it's a new era?
Speaker 4 (20:45):
I mean it's a new era of athlete and these
guys are in their early twenties and take coaching a
lot of times, not all the times, but many times
a little differently than they might have twenty five years ago.
So the coach from Liam Cohen, who is still in
his thirties, might be much different than Doug Peterson who
(21:06):
is you know, a grizzled old backup quarterback in the
league and was behind Brent farre and there was no
room for any of that.
Speaker 7 (21:14):
You know, you had to be hard and you had
to be tough, and that's what it was.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
And that's fine. There's a way to do that. You
could still win. He won a super Bowl like that, right,
So there's a balance here and but.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
A strip but there's more new ones.
Speaker 7 (21:29):
Yeah, and you can't coach everybody the same. That's the tricky.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
You got to know who can handle that type of
coaching and maybe you have to have a little more
delicate sensibility with and that's okay. I mean that's just
every person's different and that's just knowing your football team.
And I think that will grow with Liam Cohen the
longer he's around too, and the more new guys come
in and the team develops and evolves and he's around
him more. I think that that kind of thing. It's
(21:54):
not over yet. I mean, you know that's still going
to grow as training camp goes, as the season goes.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Next season dr but also an interesting year for Trevor
as well. You know, we didn't kind of get to
ask him that I guess in our time with him,
but you know, you mentioned overreacting and I was going
to go into is it is it not make or break?
But I feel like it's a huge year for him
and you kind of see it in I feel like
(22:19):
a lot of the Jags fans on any clip that
we post with Trevor in it's like I want everyone's like,
I really want Trevor to do speak well this year,
but I feel like this and next year are and
he probably knows that. But he's got this very relaxed,
focused kind of aura to him which couldn't have come
at you know, you feel like it's always been like that,
(22:40):
very relaxed, but couldn't have come at a better time,
especially for this year.
Speaker 7 (22:43):
It let's be honest with it.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
I mean, it's not make or break because he has
his contract or yeah, he's getting a guarantee contract with
what twenty thirty, twenty whatever.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
But in terms of expectations, that's.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
The point, right right, that's the different part. Financially, he's fine,
he's not fighting for a contract. That's not the push.
Push is the performance on the field to live up
to that time, and that's that's something that's relatively new
to Okay, I have to actually go perform and get.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
This team to the next level. Even if he doesn't
perform well.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
If the team performs well and he makes that happen,
maybe not statistically, winning matters. If he's the guy that
helps the running game go better and they win on that, fine.
Speaker 7 (23:23):
If he's throwing for forty five hundred.
Speaker 6 (23:24):
Yards, it's more than throwing balls, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Absolutely, So it's all that combined. He's got to stay
healthy too. I mean, he's been hurt the last two years,
so of it's his own fault running around and diving
ahead first in the sideline.
Speaker 7 (23:36):
What are you doing? He knows that, and you just
got to learn and.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Adjust as you're playing style, especially out of the pocket
a little bit, and I think he'll do that.
Speaker 7 (23:46):
That's the push though. It's not the money. It's living
up to the money.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Now.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah, Well, we've spoken about a couple of people on
the you know that are going to be on the
offensive side of ball of the ball. I suppose you
could say obviously that Travis Hunt's own both, but let's
move over to the defensive side.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
I know that you've been.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Able to catch up Reese with let's say Trayvon Walker,
for example, Tyson Campbell.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
You've managed to catch up with, haven't you.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
Yeah, both of them, Tyson and Travon as well. Both
look both, like I feel like, very similar in terms
of I say, underrated or underappreciated by the wider league.
But definitely two players, especially Trayvon. When you look at
these numbers, you know, double digit sack years. How's this
guy up there with some of.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
The best in terms of why Sorry to interrupt you, Reese,
but when you asked him about the double digits and
you know, maybe that'll happen this year, Travon was like, no,
that is going to happen. There was no doubt in
his mind. That's the bare minimum that's going to happen
for him this year.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, he he knows. He's very convicted
on that as well. And I feel like Tyson, maybe
it's good having Travis in there as well, brings competition,
brings up competition, definitely good. Actually, if this is someone
that's coming in with a name and a brand, and
you know, Tyson's probably gonna look at that and be like,
(25:06):
I'm Tyson Campbell, you know, so Yeah, they both looked
and great conversation and they both seem very excited for
this year. And I think again similar to the offense
with the new DC as well in Campanile, same mindset,
detail oriented, you, very focused and knows what. They both
(25:27):
said that DC knows what he wants. So yeah, it
seems like they're primed for the big years, both of them.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Yeah, Anthony Campanilli is about as clear a communicator as
you want in that defensive meeting rooms will I understand that,
but in there I don't think he holds any punches,
Like if he doesn't like something, he'll tell you why
in a very direct manner said and if he loves you, great,
that's cool. But I think there might have been some
(25:55):
of that lacking, especially on defense the last couple, you know,
iterations of defensive coordinators, which there have been a couple
in Doug Peterson's era, right.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
So clarity there helps. I haven't really had a chance
to see a lot.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Of what the scheme entails yet again, no pads and
you know you're not really looking yet. I think Trayvon
Walker last year they asked him all to add weight
on the defensive line and it just slowed everybody down.
It felt like he's trimmed some weight, kind of balanced
it out a little more, a little more muscle, like
he a little toned up.
Speaker 7 (26:29):
You know, he's already a big guy and strong anyway, but.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
His body style has morphed a little bit back to
what it should be. It feels like to me, he
said that Trayvon Walker, okay, looked different.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
I felt bigger of strength.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
And then like he's lost some weight. He was a
little heavier I think last season than Lloyd was, and
he's trimmed off a lot of that. For lack of
a better term, baby fat. It wasn't baby, it was
just he was. They asked everybody to get bigger.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Yeah, who's who's Who's that? DC would have said, the
new strength cage.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Yeah that changed when all all regime change. Hey, we
need you guys, this is what we prefer. What do
you guys think?
Speaker 7 (27:10):
They probably had them in there as well to see
what they thought about how they played at that.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Late didn't play that well overall. Okay, let's adjusting, you know,
and that's fine to travel on. It's hard to believe
he's in this fourth year.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Trayvon Walker already so speaking about that, you know, bringing
up the regime regime change, which sounds very scary actually
put in the phrase regime change, doesn't it slightly intimidating.
But the let's bring up coach Cohen because as much
as it's you know, great, this sided Atlantic being able
to read whatever, watch interviews and stuff, JP, You're you're
(27:42):
there already, but you know, Reese, Key for you being
there over the last few days, what have you made
of him? What have you have you been able to
catch up with him at all?
Speaker 3 (27:50):
So, Jay, I'm very fortunate that this is my third
year coming out here to do this stuff, all of
this content. Not to rub it in mate, maybe maybe
next year, right, but anyway, that we sat down with
Coach Cohen yesterday and I'm not just saying it probably
my favorite interview we've ever done.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
He he's a different kind of beast in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
He is exciting, he's committed, and I know, I know
I say this a lot, J, but it feels different.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
It feels different this time, and I'm excited by him.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Feel different.
Speaker 6 (28:27):
Key, he feels different. J.
Speaker 5 (28:30):
What do you think Race, Yeah, I think I think JP.
You kind of alluded to it. It's two complete different personalities.
So yeah, you know it's going to write like coach Peterson,
you know, very different feel because we spayed to him.
I think it was two years ago when we were
in Yes, I think with Coach Cohen it's it's more
(28:53):
of the youthful energy. So I would guess I'm not
I'm not been a professional athlete, but I would assume
not yet. Not yet.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
I would assume it really goes down just walks on
the beach, rees walks on.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
But I would assume it goes down to the player
and the majority of players even resonating with someone that's
going to approach them in that way and is closer
in age perhaps, or some players will resonate more with
Doug and be like I prefer that almost like father figurely,
So it's going to be different for different players. So
(29:29):
well seen. The only thing I can say with the
people that we spoke to so far, it seems like
this is this is resonating. But at the same time,
I very doubt they were going to turn around and say, no,
it's not, you know. So it's like I think, like
you said, JP, it's it's so early and you know
what if you don't mind me saying we spoke about
it last night when we may have had a few unsweeties. Yes,
(29:53):
thank you, we said, and I think I think you
said it really well. Well, let's just wait three games in.
Let's just wait three to five games in and then
and then let's see, uh, that same energy you can.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Talk about to your point, hold on, It's like you
can have adversity in training camp, and you can have
injuries and that it really gets real in September. And
we have seen teams have great training camps and win
all their preseason games and get through and there's confidence,
and then they're zero and three and then all hell
breaks loose and mentalities change and you know, schedules daily
(30:34):
change and there's all this chaos and just everybody's freaking out.
That's where you're gonna find out, like if if there's
consistent you know, we're going through this no matter what.
This is our program, this is what we do, and
nobody's panicking.
Speaker 7 (30:50):
Cool. You don't know that until you know it for real.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
It's a first time head coach and a first time
staff in a lot of ways, and you know, certainly
the head coach when there is adversity in the season.
How's he going to handle it because he's he's had
some positive years as an offensive coordinator, two different levels,
different animal when you're running the whole ship.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
On.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
From a fans perspective, I think it's fair to say
that we all our judgments are definitive by this time
of the year.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
JP, I'm afraid to say every team is winning the Super.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Well, let me talk to me, key, Talk to me key,
because you know you mentioned Travis Hunter is really excited
to go to the UK.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Is Coach Cohen said anything?
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (31:35):
So, first off, the story of it being Coach Cohen
and James Gladstone coming over to the UK to face
the Rams. I love this, stormy considering their history with
the Rams, I think that's fantastic. But yeah, when Reese
was sitting down with Coach con in Factories, I'll just
I'll let you tell it. But how excited was he
for London?
Speaker 7 (31:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (31:55):
Well he was excited, and I think more importantly, he
was so excited for his wife, Yea to go to
London again because her favorite country in the world is England.
It's gonna say the UK and go my head. Not
so much geography yeah, thanks, but no, he's super excited
and he's looking forward to taking his family in.
Speaker 6 (32:16):
His favorite city was London, right city?
Speaker 5 (32:18):
Thank you country, Yeah, that's right city. And I said
to him as well, I said, what's it going to
be like when you're leading the team. It's a bit
different being there before, but when it's you leading the
team out in Wembley, what's that going to be like?
And he I think he alluded to watching a video
a few years back of was it mister Khn's Was
(32:42):
it an interview with mister car at Wembley or in London?
And he said it gave twenty four hours with mister
Carn Yes, yes, and they showed the Wembley part and
he said he just got goosebumps. So it's quite cool
to know that, you know, even the head coach of
the Jags is going on you know, YouTube or wherever
and having as at old videos, probably late at night,
get himself mentally prepared for what's to come. So, you know,
(33:05):
very open and honest of him to share that with us.
So there was a lot of excitement, do you.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Know what ja Just a lot of personal connections, Ky, yeah,
very good, just to pick up on that right that
there are two rip things that people are everyone that
we've spoken to is responding to really really positively.
Speaker 6 (33:22):
One is the new coaches.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Everyone smiles when we start talking to them about the
new coaches. And the second thing is when we start
talking to people about Wembley. Everyone either that has played there,
has loved it or is really excited to do it
for the first time.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Yeah, I mean, I'm going to say it again.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Tickets still available for La Rams versus the Jaguars Wembley
October nineteenth. If your head to Jaguars dot co dot UK.
There's a direct link on the homepage and you'll also
find hospitality links on there too. I mean it's fair
to say as well, you know, after you know what
we're hearing from you guys are men on the ground.
I suppose in Jacksonville, this is not a game that
anybody should miss.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
I just does it feel different? Key, because it just
feels different.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna threw to JP on this
because JP has been to every single one of them.
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Yeah, I want to say.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
That's like, if you don't have tickets, now what are
you doing? Yeah, that's all I wanted to say this
is a great matchup.
Speaker 7 (34:15):
The LA Rams are really good. Uh, they have a
chance to be spectacular this year. In the NFC.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
It's a group that you know, James Ladstone was there,
the GM was in that staff in LA for a
long time. There's connections with Liam Cohen. I mean, there's
all these connections between those two organizations. And you know,
if the Jaguars can get things going offensively early in
the season, this thing could be up and down the field.
Speaker 7 (34:41):
It feels like, you know, I'm just on paper. So
I don't know. If you don't have tickets to Wimbley for.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Rams Jaguars, I mean, you know, check yourself. I mean,
this is you gotta go get them now, like this
is the time to do.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
I think we all though it last year and every
year that we've been but I think I don't have
kids said perhaps I'm not best to speak on this,
but I think as well, just as a family day out, yes,
not everyone in the family has to.
Speaker 6 (35:07):
Be I would edit the Big Doctor Wembley, Yes.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
But no everyone has to be into American football. But
I do feel like it's experience. It also suddenly do you.
Speaker 7 (35:21):
Become a fan. There's what it's like the best thing.
And I say this every time. Not every time, but
a lot of times. I'm on with you. Guys are
on UK and different places or whatever.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Like the game day going to Wembley from now, I'm
here and I'm not there all the time. But when
you get off the train the underground that was at
Wembley Park and you walk down Olympic Way and the
archers there and all the vendors are out, and there's
people going towards the stadium and you can like veer
(35:51):
off and go to different pubs and restaurants and things
if you want, or you can go right into the stadium.
That walk, like it tells me, it is the To me,
it's like the biggest world of end of the day
because everybody the time that game has played in theory
can watch that game around the world, from the far
(36:12):
East to two thirty in London, to nine am on
the East Coast to six am on the West Coast
if you're up early at fls on.
Speaker 7 (36:21):
That's amazing.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
So to me, that is a maximum exposure event for
the Jaguars internationally. And to just be there in that
environment when I see that arts pop up on the horizon.
You know that that means the world to me.
Speaker 7 (36:35):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
I was on the tube last year on the way
to the game and there was a family there. I mean,
they're two eight year old or they looked around eight
year old daughters with jangs jerseys on, and I was
just like, Yes, this is it. This is a proper
family thing, Rece. So I think I think you're right
(36:59):
with that one. Look, let's let's go around. Let's go
around the circle. Let's pretend that I'm in the Jacksonville
circle with us. Jay, thank you emotionally. I want to know, please,
your highlights of your trip so far, Let's make them
football based.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
First of all, Oh, football based. I do have a highlight,
but it isn't football based. Reese singing gospel music with
Tank Bigsby.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
What it was?
Speaker 6 (37:29):
Honestly, it was context is needed.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
This thing.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
So we do a segment called Blitz where it's quick
fire questions, and one of the questions that Reese asks
is about music.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
What was the last thing that you listened to?
Speaker 3 (37:47):
And that answer is never quick fire because Reese always
responds and generally ends up singing with the player, and
with Tank Bigsby, it was a gospel song in him
and Tank Bigsby, it's not singing it together.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
And Tank has the most beautiful voice.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
And there's always and there's always some bvs as well.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Let's not forget oh nice nice back in VOT.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Sarah from the Jags UK team also has a lovely
voice and often joins in there was Adele, there was everything.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
That sounds beautiful and probably having not listened to it.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
And I don't know whether you know when somebody says
they've got a beautiful voice, and it's like, well, you
are sitting next to him, So I don't know if
you're just being polite or not. But I assume that
Reese has a beautiful.
Speaker 6 (38:33):
Well's not here and so I don't have to say that.
But he is a very very big man. I'm sticking
with you, you know what.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
I think it's going out to practice that first day
that we got here, and I think it was Drake
and Eminem the song Forever came on and you see
all the players come out and you go, ah, we're back,
And it's only until you kind of walk back in
to the facility and you stick on whatever TV channels
(39:06):
has played in the reception and you see all the
reporters that all the different training cams, and you're like.
Speaker 6 (39:11):
Oh, is that time of the marchic to what JP
is saying about Wembley, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (39:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Yeah, it's like it's back again, because it's kind of
vice versa for us, your version is Wembley. For us,
it's when we come over here, we're like, ah, okay now.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
For us for folks that are here all the time,
when it really happens for me is the first day
that shoulder pads going on on Monday and you.
Speaker 7 (39:34):
Hear the popping of the pads.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
Yeah, and there's actual offensive line and defensive line.
Speaker 7 (39:41):
That's football, and that's what you miss. Yeah. The early
mornings are fun and all that.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
It's hot, it's muggy and humid and everything, and then
you're playing foot you know, but then all of a
sudden they put the pads on. Okay, we're a step
closer now to actually figuring out what the hell's going
on with this football team.
Speaker 7 (40:00):
They're playing actual football now.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
That's for us here in the States that cover this
on a day to day basis, the pads matter.
Speaker 7 (40:07):
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Well, last Jeries my highlight so far is uh I
had some great scrambled eggs this morning. So that's my
highlight of the last few days. So nice one, guys,
thanks for robbing that one and what have you.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
But what have you seen? What have you seen on
JAG socials and online et cetera that you've gone like
or any news source that you're like, ah, yeah, it's back.
Speaker 6 (40:40):
Do you know what?
Speaker 2 (40:40):
I think it's just and it's difficult obviously not being there.
I think it's just trying to and it's so difficult.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
I'm trying to. I'm trying to like put a caveat
on what I'm about to say.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
It's trying to It's almost like trying not to read
too much into everything.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Does that make sense?
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Like it's like it just feels like when you when
you see all the I think I saw a video
of all the guys is coming onto the field for
the first time on like day one of training camp,
and you're just like you're just like, here we go,
and then I have to do the JP and take
a step back, do you know what I mean and
try and be like no, it's easy to get ahead
(41:19):
of yourself here.
Speaker 7 (41:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
But also I want to point out as well that
What was just a really nice.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Moments not football related, is seeing Trevor with with his
newborn on like the sideline, and I just thought, I'm
just like playing, just just playing almost like in between
in between practice. I just thought, that is just like
a it's like a bring your family to work day,
(41:46):
but it's just like super cute.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
It was really nice. But the scrambled eggs were also great.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Do you know what, Jake, there's a lot of bring
your family to work as you know with VI had
coach Farwell on the podcast before, and he brings all
of his kids and his oldest son is on the
is on the practice field helping out.
Speaker 6 (42:05):
It's so lovely.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
I just want to just say really quickly as well,
before I forget that last year Breese, you were shown
how to kick right by camp by cam Little.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
Are you doing anything similar this time around?
Speaker 5 (42:19):
Yes, so I'm going to be learning how to punk return.
Speaker 6 (42:28):
Why that.
Speaker 5 (42:31):
Bags JP always appreciated. Do you know how fast I am?
Speaker 4 (42:37):
It doesn't matter how fast you can be fast in
all directions, You're still got to catch the football first.
Speaker 5 (42:44):
Can we.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
How are we going to be able to watch that
content that we're talking about is going to be available
on the Jaguars UK YouTube channel throughout the season we're
gonna do.
Speaker 6 (42:56):
There's so much exciting stuff that's.
Speaker 7 (42:58):
Going to be a rating spike.
Speaker 4 (43:00):
The day you put that out, there will be people
watching that over and over and over and over.
Speaker 7 (43:05):
That's just me.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
What the title Reese Parkinson's career ended.
Speaker 5 (43:13):
Okay, everyone, everyone clicked this up. I actually put this
audio over the actual video.
Speaker 7 (43:22):
Okay, what what happens? Love?
Speaker 2 (43:27):
I speak for everybody on this side of the Atlantic
to say that, forget the season Rees, we're most.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Excited about watching that.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
Guys, Keyes JP, have an amazing rest of your time there.
I say that and only half mean it, but I
love the fact you're at training camp right now.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
Enjoy the rest of it.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
We're going to be back at the end of August
when we are going to go weekly.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
Key dude.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
That's that's the one, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (43:54):
That's the one.
Speaker 6 (43:55):
I'm looking forward to that.
Speaker 7 (43:56):
By the way, one more shout out to the Lemon
Bar here in Neptune Beach. Give we're on the dunes.
The sun is out.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
If you get to the States, which you should, you
should come to Jacksonville.
Speaker 7 (44:06):
The first coast of Florida, Hidden gym. Come to this place.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
Cold beers, dakeries, peni coiladas, fedoras, swimsuits, bikini tops, you
got it all here. I mean this place, tattoos everywhere. Yeah,
this is this place is incredible. It always has been.
Speaker 7 (44:23):
Right on the dunes, you can overlook the Atlantic Ocean.
They're gracious hosts and we're glad to be here.
Speaker 5 (44:27):
Isn't this way you did the draft?
Speaker 4 (44:28):
Yeah, the draft party, jackson they did a lot. There
was this thing was packed a draft day and we
nuts I heard when they drafted Travis Hunter. So we're
at the site where it all kind of went down.
Speaker 5 (44:41):
Love it.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
It's gray skies. Hey, guys.
Speaker 7 (44:47):
