Speaker 1 (00:11):
What is up?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
What's going on? Y'allul This is the Beatdown Podcast, Week
two edition, and for the first time ever, we are
actually in person, believe it or not, that we're actually
at Commander's Park. The Commanders, they wouldn't necessarily the prettiest
thing in the world, but they got it done twenty
one to six over the New York Giants. They have
a much tougher test coming up on Thursday as they
played the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love Micah Parson's gonna
(00:36):
be out there in lambeau Field. It's gonna be interesting.
Good statement win week two, and we're going to discuss
exactly how they can come away too. And oh, for
the first time since twenty twenty three, and with me
in person again, we have two people here. We have
Candy Waller, who is from Bowie TV. Can you want
to go in and say something?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Hey there, everybody. Good to be with you guys again.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
This season, and we had Wandermera from the Spanish broadcast network.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Saluls s Loulis. How's it going, Hey, we got a
w That's all that matters.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
You were absolutely right, that is all that matters. And
I just want to say we're in an undisclosed location.
We'll say where it is. But we are all together.
That's really all that matters here. And since this is
just the second edition of this season's beat Down, we'll
ahead and give you a little bit of reminded of
the rules again, I'm going to ask these people three
questions on an offense, one a defense, one more of
(01:29):
a general one to kind of get their opinions on things.
There will be points giving given out at the end
of each round. And as the host, even though you
know both these people are right next to me, I
feel a little weird about that. I want us had
a winner between these two people. But with all that said,
let's go and jump right into it, starting off with
Michael Parsons right, the new addition to the Packers, traded
(01:52):
away from the Dallas Cowboys. These guys know Michael Parsons
very well. He has been a tear for Washington for
quite some time and pretty much both to the NFC
East right double the Desacks in the last four seasons,
Pro Bowler, All Pro Defensive Rookie of the Year second
and Defensive Player of the Year voting his second season,
and the Commanders. While they are a little more familiar
(02:13):
with him. As dan Quinn said, he is just gonna
be a problem for everybody. So we have to start
out there and say how do they mitigate the Michael Parsons,
how they kind of manage him? And we'll start off
with a candy go ahead and take it away.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
You know what I'm like, is there any chance they
switch up the lineup? And we're looking at each other,
and it's like, Laramie, you follow, you follow Michaeh because
I just keep thinking about you know, when we talked
to Jayda Daniels last week about Josh Connolly junior, and
you know people are gonna try him, right, They're not
gonna go you know, they're not gonna choose Laramie if
(02:48):
they don't have to write.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
And Mike is someone who could just fly or one
of the persons just kept to fly free. You saw
them a little.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Bit with Brian Burns with the Giants, right, you get
trying to do as much as you can cam on
that defensive line, but somebody to come up and try
to get to Jaden, And so I envisioned Michael Parsons
being doing the same thing.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I think as much as they can just.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Forth think and be prepared for that extra maybe pressure
wherever he could possibly be. I think Josh Conney Jr.
Is going to be up for the challenge. As coach
Quinnon has shared with us, he loves the competition. So
if any team would be prepared as best as possible,
if it's even possible for Michael Parsons, I think it
(03:28):
would be the Washington Commanders because of this staff.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
You know, I don't think there's ever been a tackle
who has followed around deep with the van. That might
be the first thing ever, but that could be interesting.
Now to your point, though, Laramie has played Michael the
last two seasons and he is zero pressures in any
of those matchups. So it just tells you how much
of a battle of it is and how well Laramie
(03:53):
isn't protecting the quarterback against his elite talents. You mentioned
Josh Conlin, I'll switch over. You want to talk about that,
because that's probably who he's gonna see quite a bit.
What do they do to mitigate that matchup, how they
leverage him, how do they give Josh Morris opportunities to succeed?
Speaker 1 (04:08):
You know, that's the that's the million dollar question, right,
how do you contain Micah Parsons.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
But there's one thing about Green Bay you.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Have to consider also is that they were already a
very talented defensive line before Micah Parsons. So now you
kind of have to just, you know, count both sides.
What's going on from this side, what's going on that side. Also,
I think one way you can neutralize is always try
to keep John Bates on whatever side he's lining up.
John Bates is one of the best blockers in the NFL.
(04:34):
Albeit run blocking sometimes he does do some pass pro
so I think they'll have any which way of containing
Michaeh Parsons. And one more thing also with Micah is
that from what I saw versus Detroit, he wasn't in
on a lot of the snaps, right, So they're still
ramping him up. So I think you can try to
take advantage of that that he's still not one hundred
percent Micah. But I'm sure, like a you know, seventy
(04:55):
percent Micah is more dangerous than like ninety eight percent
of the league, right.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
You know that is very true. And I looked up
the stats before we had this this podcast. I know
he only played thirty snaps against Detroit, which is really
not that much, especially since he's still working his way
back into that scheme. So and you mentioned John Bates,
and I think that's gonna be a pretty big point
there about how you can move him around and kind
of give them a little bit of chip out. But
you know, there's not always going to be the case
(05:20):
where John Bates is gonna be on Larrmy town townsl
side of John's side. Like, what do you think about
maybe adding other players and that, like Debo or some
of the other slot receivers that kind of give a
little bit of chip out there, Candy.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Yeah, I'm definitely like, Okay, now maybe now is the
week to see a debot, right, I'm thinking about maybe
and if we go back to Sunday trying to figure
out the days. Yeah, and we saw how much this
team can The blocking ability on the team overall, it
almost feels it looks like it's a requirement, like everybody
asks to know how to block, and so it's like, hey,
(05:52):
maybe that's where we see Deebo this week because he
can do it absolutely well. I think, you know, great
point of course with John Bates and being like that
extension and extended member of the offensive line there. But
then I'm wondering how much of the package is a
little bit different where they might you know, even though
they're trying to stay away from Jaden.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Maybe it's, hey.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
We're gonna make Michael chase Bill or chase others, you
know where it's like, we're gonna put this speed for speed.
You know, Coach Quinn talked a lot about Michael Parsons speed,
So it's like.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
We're gonna put our fastest guys on office against this.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Dude because maybe we can get everybody else, but this
guy is just gonna be running wild.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, you know, I think Dvo is one of those
guys who is definitely big enough right to handle to
my own Michael Parsons. And it's it's gonna be interesting
too because we have a coach who coached with Micah.
He has a very intimate knowledge of his skill set.
So one before we go, one of the next question
we'll ask you, like, how much of a role that
is gonna play, Like, is d Hugh's experience with Micah
(06:59):
really gonna have as years roll maybe say, oh, maybe
you want to run towards him on this look for
Baker against him towards this look or maybe like try
to bait him on some things.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Oh, I'm sure it's huge.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I'm sure it's huge that he knows his his ins
and outs his flaws. If there is any flaws in
his game, if anybody would know, it would be dan Quinn.
And I'm sure he's talking up with Kingsbury about where
we need to expose if he's on the field where
he's not. But yeah, definitely him knowing Michael process and
knowing what he can do what maybe is his limitations.
(07:31):
You'll probably see dan Quinn and Kingsbury discussing that this week.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Right, It's definitely one of those moments you want to
be like a fly on the wall, right and just
hear how these guys is talking ball up. I had
to handle such an elite, rare talented, but I mean,
I think fair to say, one of the best Patch
riders in the last decade. Right, we'll move on, but
before we give going around two, we'll give a little
bit score update. Hmmm, I'll give Kenny the point here.
I like I like the also, Loli mc there is
(08:00):
no there is no air. It's a little high.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
No, we're trying.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
We're trying to move along as quick as we can
because we were Phil Mahes sof Candy gets the point,
move on to question two. We flip on on the
other side of the ball here and talk about the
defensive line for the Commanders because they bawled out against
the Giants less than one hundred yards rushing really just
went all over the place on Russell. Wilson's got him twice.
Bron Payne was just a monstrous sack and a half,
(08:30):
a couple of battle down passes. But this Packers offense
is much different, right, much more talented, much more diverse
in their skill set. You have Josh Shacobs, You've got
Jordan Love who is a really really good young quarterback.
How did this defensive line carry over that success into
week two one?
Speaker 1 (08:48):
We'll start with definitely, what they need to do is
maintain discipline, cover the gaps. There was a lot of
plays where you saw that the d line was absorbing
all the blocks from the offensive line of the Giants
and it was given the ability for Wagner and luvu
uh to make plays. Wagner of course led the team
with the tackles Frankie Luvu and Frankie Luvus standards had
(09:09):
a quiet game.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
He had seven tackles. He was pleaaning all game long.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
So that means that the defensive line was doing their
job absorbing all those blocks.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Against Green Bay.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
You also have a special back with Jacob, so I'm
sure it's gonna be a much more bigger challenge. But definitely,
I think this D line was built for this this
type of game.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yeah, I definitely do think so you never, like, I
guess like Deron is like an all world talent, But
other than that, there's really not like that one guy
right that you have. You have vond Mill, but he's
no longer the player that he was. Still a great player,
of course, adorn Ar Throng good role player. You have
Von de gene Batist, good role player. A lot of guys,
I mean, Detrick Wise a good run setter. So we'll
also foot over there to the run games specifical with
(09:48):
Josh Jacobs. I mean, this is the kind of matchup
that you you got guys like Diatrich, Wise, Jacob Martin,
these these guys that can set the edge like howl overwall.
Do you think that's going to be How do you
think that there's anything to carry over with the play
of the poem they had against Tyron Tracy.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I mean, I definitely think so.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
And I want to also mention in terms of just
getting to the quarterback overall, javon Kin Law can just
get on in the middle right there and just be
a you know, a game right, you know what, you.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Just disrupted everything.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Then it just it gives everybody an opportunity.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
To make a play.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
I think you all were saying, and it's interesting, right
the players were saying this one, you know, Frankie or
others were saying they had a quiet game, and I'm like, uh,
you know.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
According to whose criteria? But I think this is the.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Week that both teams will be really challenged. I think
the Packers might have I notice the Detroit Lions, but
that didn't look like the same.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Detroit Lions when I went back and looked at that game.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
So I think this offensive, the Packers offensive line, and
this Commanders defensive line. It will definitely the anti has
been upped for certain, but it's that is what javon
Kinlaw is for.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
They guys have size and they have speed.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
They're really really fast coming off the line of scrimmage,
and then you talk.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
About the Jacob Martin.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
You talk about Will Harris even from on Sunday, who
made a huge impression at least in my opinion, really
making plays and really getting into the backfield and being disruptive.
So the name of the game is hey stacking the
quarterback and giving those takeaways as well.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah, you know you mentioned that Lions game, and you're right,
I do think obviously they lost both coordinators and they
lost some key put players on their on their their
offensive line. So I mean, other than that, it's the
same personnel. So I think they've still got a little
bit of an adjusting period there to make because it
really is the same team, like largely compared compared to
that we'll talk about like more of the interior here.
You mentioned Javon Kinlaw. I'm interested to see, like how
(11:46):
he's gonna perform against this this Packers interior because he
like from the first play stuff Tyrone Tracy for a
one yard loss, Like, how do you think he's gonna
be able to carry that over one?
Speaker 4 (11:57):
I think he's gonna continue, He's gonna continue that.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
I asked him today of how he felt to be
part of that first play, the first defensive stop, and
he said, that's what he was brought here for.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
That's his job, that's what he wants to do.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
He wants to blow up plays in the backfield, absorb blocks,
and that's really what he's being asked to do here
as being a stud force on the defensive line. Duran Payne,
I mean, what can we say about drawn pain that
we haven't seen before. We've seen this in Duran Pain before.
It hasn't been in a round in a while, but
we saw this type of game from him before, and
now that means that he's motivated, he's ready, ready to
(12:30):
come out against this team, any team. I think he's
gonna have a great year and it should continue versus
the backers.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
You mentioned darn Payin. Before we move on, I want
to ask, like, if Deron is that dude that he
was on Sunday and we see a return of the
Pro Bowl, durn Payin, what do you think this demon's
line is going to be?
Speaker 5 (12:49):
I mean, the sky is the limit for this defensive line.
I mean it is going to be one where teams
are not going to want.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
To play them.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
I think you know, and it's going to be imperative.
It's almost like, go back to Super Bowl and we
saw what the Eagles defensive line did to the Chiefs
and everybody was like, oh my gosh, oh oh, at
least I was, And I think it already felt like
that on Sunday. So if they're able to do that
again Thursday and just continue on with that all season,
(13:23):
this defensive line is a serious, serious problem. Like I'm
almost I mean, hey, we know that the commander's winning
is always great for business, but it's almost like send
up a few prayer prayers for the quarterback because this
same goodwell family.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
So we'll see.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
But I think with Deron Pain and then the additional
players that they've added who thrive off of being disruptive,
like they seem to really love it, I think he's
gonna shine.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
And so it's this defense.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah, you know, I know it's just one week, of course,
but like it really has been night and day comparatively,
because the defense is the whole as I think that's
like if if it stays this way, that's maybe the
biggest accomplishm with the Adam Peters had is how he's
being able to rework that defense. We're gonna move on
for update, though. I want to like the the the
Kimmel stuff, I like the Dron Pain stuff, I like
(14:13):
the Frankly Lulu stuff. So you're gonna tie it up
mc canny and I think at leastway with the shortest
podcast I've ever done, because there's a thirst stat right
above us and we all see it. So we're getting
one the final up question. And obviously there's a lot
of good players that are gonna have a key role
if the Commanders are gonna be able to pull out
(14:34):
a win against the Packers. We talked about Durron Payin
a lot, we haven't talked a lot about zach Ertz,
who had another really good game there. So we're gonna
Will's guys pick between who is more important to a
Commander's victory on Thursday. Is it going to be zach
Ertz or is it going to be Deron Payin? Candy,
we shall start with you.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
I'm gonna give it to den Payin. I'm gonna give
it to Darron Pain because I think they have to.
I mean, while the offense will have a hard time,
it's like the commander's office.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Being on the field.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Longer means more opportunities for Mincal Parsons.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
And Rishawn Garry and those others.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
But I want to say, Duran Pain in the effort
to try to get takeaways like this is going that
I'm in my mind this is gonna have to be
a game where.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
You see the defense for and special teams as well.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
But Deron paysians I like that. I like that a lot.
One your response for me, I'm gonna have to.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Go with Ertz because ERTs it's gonna be a game
where you're gonna see a lot of pressure. Green Bay
puts a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks no matter what.
So you're gonna see Jaden leaves the pocket, he's gonna
be scrambling right, left, wherever. And he's gonna need a
safety blanket and he's gonna find zach Ertz. Zach Ertz
needs to needs to be available for him, you know,
in the flat or whether close to him in the
(15:51):
middle of the field.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
I think that's why zach Ertz is probably gonna be
more key to this game.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I'm not saying dron Pain is not important, right, but
I'm just saying, and this aspect of it, he's going
to have to be uh, someone that gets a lot
of targets a lot of catches this game, which means.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
That the ball is moving moving forward with the offense.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
You know, It's it's crazy how Zach hurts, like how
young he looks even as a player, because he really
he looks like he's had a rejuvenation of the last
couple of years. And I'm I'm insted to see how
much longer he plays, because as long as he's in
this offense, I think this offense is going to be very,
very very good. This is awkward because.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
See I.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Did too. I liked both of y'all's answers, and I think, man,
I really wish I was on a zoom screen right now.
But I'm going to go with Candy here because let
me and let me and let me let me tell
you why. I think this is going to take a
(16:58):
full complete effort from this from this entire team. The
stations is going to have to be on it because
and this is no disrespect of the Giants, but the
Packers have They have guys like Matt Laflora, so the
play caller, who is a very diverse play caller. You
have guys like Jordan Love, You have Josh Jacobs. You
have Romeo Dobbs, You've got all these like you've got
some pretty good receivers, you've got a good offensive line.
(17:20):
You need to find ways to create those turnovers. And
Danklin even talked today like the importance that we have
to get those because I forget what the staty mentioned about,
like it's what they were eighty nine and one teams, like, yeah,
they were positive in the turnover margin, Like that stuff
matters a lot. And this is some of this team
has constantly emphasized and you saw a little bit of
it later in the year last year. They need to
(17:40):
get that a little bit more this year because they
have got some tough teams coming up. So, Candy, you
are the winner of this, uh, this first in person edition.
How are you feeling about the victory?
Speaker 5 (17:50):
This is good, This is like all the things and
the people are cool. So I'm happy about it. But
let's see what happens Thursday night. Let's see what happens.
I'm excited about it.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Yeah, I know me too. It should be a very
very good game. And I think, yeah, it's obviously tweek two,
it's little early to be calling statement games, but I
think It is the moment to say, hey, we're we
are still that team that we were last year, the
team that everybody was not not happy to play play
against late in the year, still has a chance to
give make a running the playoffs. It's gonna be fun
because this is another hot team that kind of came
(18:31):
on last year as well. So we're gonna get out
of here because it is still anybody degrees in here.
But this has been cool. I loved the in person
and you know next time, I swear it will not
be as hot a here. All right, be sure to rate, review,
subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. And this has been
the beat down
