Speaker 1 (00:00):
Party.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
You made it down. Welcome to my latest experiment.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
This is a big one, the one I've been waiting
for all my life.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, doc, are you telling
me that you built a time machine the.

Speaker 4 (00:12):
Way I see it?

Speaker 5 (00:13):
If you're gonna be able to time machine into a car,
why not do it with some style Besides the stainless
steel construction made the fux dispersal look out.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Okay, we promised that we would be back, and here
we are after a short intermission. Did you sleep during
the intermission? I did not.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
I did not sleep. I had a little bit of
lunch and did a little bit of air and running
and then ram right back over here.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
We are at Radio Row at the Charlotte Auto Show
for twenty twenty, and by that I mean the Radio
one Row because we got our buddies. Madison from Mixed
one oh seven nine's here and who is so cute
in her little outfit. I told her that when I
saw her, you did said very And then Kyle Bailey
is here from wfn Z. He's down on the NKB

(01:16):
and so we're holding it strong here at the Charlotte
Convention Center. And that in the Auto Show it's it's
what we've been saying all week, Beth. We love to say.
And it's been a while since I've been here. I've
come to this obviously lifelong charlottea and I've come to
this many times, and I'm just now realizing that I'm
so out of sorts. I didn't even tell you who

(01:37):
we are because I told I told Nick that I
don't want to use Brett's normal show open because I
feel like that's kind of his thing, right, But we
are here, Bo Thompson, Beth Troutman from Good Morning BT
this morning. If you were listening, we were there like
normal from six am to ten am, and now we
are here from three until six pinch hitting for the

(01:58):
Great Brett Winnable the same afternoon. And we're so glad
that you are joining us and this place, this is
the place to be in Charlotte over the next several days,
the Charlotte Convention Center.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Now, look, I know that people wouldn't expect me to
be the biggest gear head in the world, but the
auto show is so much fun, folks. I mean, all
of the cars that you can get that you want
to get, and then even some of the dream cars
like the Lotus, the Lamborghini, the things that will never
afford they're all here too. And one of the really

(02:30):
cool things that they have going this time around, they
have an EV test track, a track where you can
test out some of those EV cars you've probably been
reading about. And it's all right here on the convention floor. Now,
this isn't the first time I've ever been to the
Auto Show either, but it has been a few years
since I've been here, and each year I feel like
it just gets bigger and bigger.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, this is just a staple every fall, right before Thanksgiving,
and if you're looking at the next several days. So
we're here today and we'd love to see you come
down and see us tonight at the Auto Show all
the way till nine pm tonight and then tomorrow from
noon until nine at ten am to nine pm on Saturday,
and rounding out things on Sunday ten to six. You

(03:13):
can go online to Charlotte Autoshow dot com. You can
buy tickets there, you can check out all the exhibits,
you can check out all the experiences, and a general
show information. But this is one of those signature Charlotte
events where they pull out all the stops and you
and I are looking at a sea. Sounds weird to
stay see because it's not water, but it's blue floor.
It looks like a sea of cars here on dry land.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yes, and we are right next to what is this
car right in front of us? This is a Grand
Prix National. It's a red car completely no note this
one that black hous black car Grand Prix National. And
then there's a Ford Mustang that is all like souped
up and tripped out with like an engine that's sitting
on top. I feel like I'm in I feel like

(03:54):
Danny Zuko should be sitting on the hood of the
car while the engine comes down, singing grease lightning. Am
I the only person that turns the Auto Show into
a musical?

Speaker 1 (04:03):
No?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
No, I think it's an extremely relevant reference. Now I agree.
And by the way, that is the voice of Sir
Stephen of Anthony, who is one of our producers in
the morning, works alongside Bernie every day, so Steve's out
here with us. And no, I mean, look, if we're
doing everything right, then by the time we hit six o'clock,
you will have, you know, sung an entire segment, because

(04:24):
that's how you roll well.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
And if folks haven't joined us before on good morning
bet on their drive into work, where have you been?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
We'd love to have you join us.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Our show is full of information and fun and it's
exactly what we're going to try to bring this afternoon
while we, you know, try to hold down the fort
for Brett Winnable.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
And we're going to talk some politics here and there.
We're going to talk a lot of cars, that's the given.
But we are going to check in about three point
thirty five with our longtime automotive expert in the morning,
Tom Blocker, who is just a legend. I mean, you
say his name around this place and they all know him.
Oh famous. He just had surgery re on his hip

(05:02):
or maybe it was his knee. His knee, his knee.
He got his knee replaced, and so is he's not
able to be here in person, otherwise I think he'd
be sitting beside us. But he's going to call in
about three thirty five. And the guy, as Al Gardner
used to say, forgotten more about cars than we'll ever know.
And Tom's going to check in if everything works. I
had a call into the GOV Pat McCrory, and he

(05:24):
may check in with us before six pm. A lot
of things to react to this week with what's happened
in Charlotte, with the operation of Charlotte's Web, which you
just heard in our Top of the Hour news is
coming to an end the Epstein files. The bill was
signed last night by President Trump after clearing the House
and the Senate. This week, we talked to Bill Graham,
who's our longtime legal analyst on Good Morning BT. You'll

(05:47):
hear some of that conversation during the afternoon about where
things go from here. You might have seen Pam Bondi's
press conference yesterday. She was being asked questions about what
now now that the bill is cleared President Trump, and
a lot of people wonder what's the timeline going to
look like in the next several weeks, about now seeing
what's in these files that have been talked about for

(06:08):
so so long. So Bill Graham is going to check in.
We also had a chance you and I doing the
morning show a couple of days ago, and we get
a phone call that Bishop Michael Martin, who is the
the the Bishop of Charlotte, Charlotte Catholic Diocese, he had
an audience with the Pope a couple of days ago.

(06:29):
It's what they call when the when the Pope on
Wednesdays will will we'll meet with pilgrims that are there
obviously to see him and to see the Holy City.
And he called us a couple of days ago on
the morning show this if you know, if you don't
listen to us in the morning, we come in with
all kinds of plans, and then every once in a
while and you get diverted by something like that in

(06:51):
the best possible way, talk about a newsmaker. But the
bishop was in Rome and had just seen the Pope
like thirty minutes and then called us. Of course, a
lot of talk about what's been happening here in Charlotte,
and of course the faith community has been trying to
navigate that.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
The Pope has spoken out about what's going on with
immigration here in the United States. Of course, being the
first American pope in history, he has made comments about
how immigration is being handled here. And the bishops themselves
came together and released a special statement as well, which
is unusual. And Bishop Martin wanted to talk with us

(07:31):
about what all of that has been like, like you said,
trying to navigate this issue as a leader in the
faith community.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
So time permitting, you'll hear some of all of that,
and we've got lots of things in the works this afternoon.
But the bottom line is we're here at the auto show.
We're having some fun. We're gonna check I mean, there's
a bunch of NASCAR cars around here, there's all kinds
of novelty cars, really every kind of car you could
think of. And if you're in the market to buy
a new car to drive yourself, they've also so I'll

(08:00):
get all kinds of options like that here. So it's
a fun place to be.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
May I just say that I was walking in with
Steve this afternoon, and I think he was mid sentence
talking to me, and I just took a sharp right
turn so that I could go check out the new
Ford Bronco.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, she goes, oh, I won one of those, and I.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Just walked right over to it and spent spent a
little time with her.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
I might have to go do that during the break.
That's us. She's abute. Beth has already named her. Have
you you calling her a? She does she have a name?

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Well, you know, all cars are she's because they're awesome.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Beth the sequel, all right, So stay with us here.
It's a Bow and Beth in for Brett Winterable today
until six o'clock, live from the Charlotte Convention Center at
the twenty twenty five Charlotte Auto Shown. Yeah, it's a

(08:55):
deep cut, deep cut from Michael Jackson nineteen eighty seven,
nineteen eighty eight, fast forward to twenty twenty five. We
are live from Charlotte Convention Center where the twenty twenty
five Charlotte Auto Show is going on. Gotta go to
the auto show. That's what they always say, Beth Troutman.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
They also say the show just stepped all over that.
They also say, ignite your drive, Botomson. I don't have
that sung Ignite you were dry.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
A choir didn't do that one for me. I'll do
that for you later. I'll sing it for you later.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
But I'm here to tell you if you don't yet
have plans to come out here this weekend, now is
the time to make the plans. I'm sitting here looking
at the map of all of the different automobiles that
you can see. They have different sections for Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, GM, Acura.
They have a Jaguar land Rover Section Link and BMW, Suparu, Merceades, Benz, Lexis,

(09:51):
Porsche and all of the exotic cars. Botompson, there's a
there's a Carolina blue and orange sports car over there.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
It's the Lotus. It's quite lovely. Every one of these
cars is cleaner than mine will ever be. And these
are all like spit shined. It's unbelievable. Down here, Get
down here between now and nine pm. The Charlotte Auto
Show happening at the Charlotte Convention Center. Bowen Beth here
in for Brett Winterble today. Brett will be back, I
believe tomorrow. But we are here today holding down the

(10:23):
fort until six o'clock and of course breaking Brett Jensen
tonight at six o'clock. A lot going on. We had
an opportunity to talk to our legal analyst, Bill Graham
on our show today. He comes on from the law
offices of Wallace and Graham. And of course last night
was a was pretty monumental news night as President Trump
signed the bill to release the Epstein files on the
heels of the House and Senate passing that bill. And

(10:46):
now we wait to see what happens with the DOJ
and when we actually start seeing the contents of this.
We talked to Bill first and foremost, getting his reaction
to what happened last night and what's happening going forward.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
Well, the final shoe is not yet to drop, and
I'm not sure we're going to get what the public
or those clamoring for the files and have worked so
hard to give them released. Hope happens here. The statute
allows for thirty days, and in that time the President's

(11:18):
has said, well, we're going to investigate some Democrats, and
we're going to see look into Larry Summers, former president
of Harvard, former Treasury secretary, and you know, we're going
to look into Bill Clinton and the light. So there's
a month to go here, and there are tons of
things that in those files that the public has never seen.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
So for me, this is still an open question. I
know the.

Speaker 6 (11:43):
Statute requires that they be disclosed, but if investigations are ongoing,
I'm a little sanguine that the disclosure is going to
be as as they would say in grammar school, unabridged,
as we would hope they would be.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Do you think that's why the bout face happened over
the weekend where President Trump suddenly said two Republicans that
they should vote on this legislation, the Epstein Transparency Act,
in order to get the bill passed. Was it mainly
for political show more than for actually getting information to
the public. Is that what I'm hearing?

Speaker 6 (12:20):
Yeah, I mean this has been a political show from
the get go. The President knows that the FBI has
gone through all this stuff. They've told him his name
is in there. Apparently a lot.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Who knows. We'll have to wait and see.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
But there's reactions that are going to occur to protect witnesses,
to protect unnamed people that don't want their name disclosed
having anything to do with this deceased pedophile. So expect
a lot of redactions. If the documents are in back released.

(12:57):
There are videos, there are photographs, there are chain of
custody issues. No one's talking about that. I'd been interested
to know about the chain of custody. When documents go
from Epstein's property to you know, whatever law enforcement agency,
to his attorney back again, you know, their chain of

(13:17):
custody issues. So you know, we don't know what's going
to really be in the files and what the content
is going to reveal, but we'll have to wait and
see if they actually do what they say they're going
to do. I'm a little sanguine about it.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
We've been getting a lot of questions on our text
line from listeners about the files and whether or not.

Speaker 7 (13:35):
Either administration.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
But you know, because the Biden administration certainly had access
to these files and the Trump administration as well, could
either administration destroy anything that's within those files? And is
that part of the chain of custody process it is?

Speaker 6 (13:52):
And if there have been any files that have been destroyed,
given them magnitude and the importance that this issue has
taken on in the country, and how every member of
Congress seemingly is focused on it, and certainly the president's
base is focused on it, that woe be unto whoever
either ordered the documents destroyed, if in fact that's the case.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
I hope that's not the case.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
Woe be under them, because they'll be standing before Congress
making an explanation as to why that happened and who
ordered it and what they did with it, and was
there a copy and when was it ordered? And it
would be a lot And you know, the other thing
is here let's say you don't get but a partial disclosure,

(14:38):
and then there's still remaining questions. If the Democrats take
over the House, there's going to be nothing but investigation
after investigation on top of an investigation, this issue being
front and center among them, given the bipartisan nature of
the vote in the House.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Well, speaking of investigation, there was the investigation that was
open late last week, and the final question of the
Bondi news conference yesterday went like this, the issue with.

Speaker 8 (15:07):
The new information that you just indicated, is the Department
seeking information perhaps from the Epstein estate because mister Blanche
did not have that information when he interviewed Delanne Maxwell.
What new information? And would you limit the new investigation
to just those named persons that the President talked about
or is this a broad, open ended investigation.

Speaker 9 (15:29):
I would refer to the Deputy Attorney General's post that
he put out on X and we will We're not
going to say anything else on that because now it
is a pending investigation in the Southern District of.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
New York, So that pending investigation could that investigation delay
I know thirty days is what we heard as the
time period, but is the open investigation is that going
to get in the way of now what people are
looking for after these file have been quote unquote released.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
I think what's being alluded to here. This is in
the Southern District of New York. Okay, let's look at
our jurisdiction, and then let's look at what does the
SDN Y typically do. They typically do things connected with
finance and banking and the like. So you will have
heard in previous reports that subpoenas have been flying back

(16:25):
and forth between Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and others, and
those institutions have been mentioned in the depth scene files.
All right, so I suspect what has happened is there
have been some disclosures or subpoena is issued.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
And that's what Bondi is referring to.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
Without having said explicitly that's what's going on.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
That's what I think is going on.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
I think the financial disclosure, you know, the old saying,
follow the money and it'll tell you everything you need
to know.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
I think that's what's going on here.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
But she didn't say that, and no one else in
the administration is saying that.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
But that's what I think. Bill Graham, our longtime legal analyst,
he of course, the law Offices of Wallace and Graham.
If you listen to our morning show, Good Morning Bat,
he's on periodically when things like this happen, So we'll see.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
This is a story that I don't think is going
anywhere as much as this administration and some people would
like it to go away. I think the American people
are going to keep this story alive, possibly more than anybody.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
We got a full tank of guests hit it.

Speaker 10 (17:34):
You got more talent and one leading, and a lot
of corners has gotten a whole brush.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
You got a way take it to those baby hits,
hedy eight miles prow Gotta see some serious ship. Yeah.
Back in the day, like over a decade ago now,
our next guest used to join me, or actually I
joined him on the weekends for a show called Wheels

(18:00):
with Tom Blocker. That is where I met the legendary
Tom Blocker, who spent many many years at Hendrick. He
forty plus years in the auto business altogether. We became
fast friends, and if you've listened to the morning show,
he still comes on now and then whenever they're big
car stories, auto stories to talk about, and it's just
one of my favorite people out there, and he is

(18:21):
joining us on the hotline right now. He had some
recent surgery so he was not able to be here today.
But I can't do a show from the Charlotte Auto
Show and not bring Tom Blocker on with us.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Beth Troutman, right, it's so great to talk to you,
Tom Blocker. We also have to say one of the
nicest fellas on the planet.

Speaker 10 (18:39):
Well, hey, Beth and Bo, it's great to be on
with you. And hey, I've got a brand new left
knee on board here.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Hey, well, Luke did ready to go?

Speaker 10 (18:49):
Yeah, I'm hobbling around on a cane and it's coming
along pretty well. So I got to do them both.
But I'm doing one of the time, so smart. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
So, Tom, you've been to this show many many times.
In fact, you you you're not here, and you probably
could still tell me more about what's going on here
than I could find on my own. But what what
has has brought you to this great event over the years,
and what do you what do you have to say
about what this means to the city.

Speaker 10 (19:14):
Well, I think just all the manufacturers showing their wares
and uh, you know, they're they're they're gradually coming back
now you know, some of them dropped out for a while,
but uh, I think they've got twenty three or twenty
five brands this year, so it's a pretty good representation.
And uh and and a lot of different things. You
know that uh that that built different display with all

(19:35):
the interesting cars. And my friends from GMP are there.
If you've seen the big tractor trailer, uh with German
Motoring Products. Those are the guys that do tracks port.
So they hauled my car up to Watkins, Glenn with
three others this summer and we ran for a couple
of days up up there on the track. So uh,
that's kind of what they do. They do high performance

(19:57):
work and they uh uh they do support and I've
been working with them for years and years. They're a
bunch of great guys.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
So we're actually sitting right in front of the truck.

Speaker 10 (20:06):
Take a look at that.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
I'm sorry, we're sitting right in front of their truck. Tom,
we're sitting with the GMP folks.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Basically, well, there you go.

Speaker 10 (20:15):
We'll say hi to the GMP guys for me. They're
all good guys and they do you know, they do
track preparation, like they put the roll cage and harnesses
in my car. They do break work, they do alignments
for the track, that type of thing, and they come
to the track with their transporter and they typically have
several folks that they haul up there and they'll help

(20:35):
you out. If you want your tires changed and you're
too busy to do it yourself, they'll they'll do that
and come out and take your tire pressures when you
come in off the track and that type of thing.
There are a bunch of good guys. I really enjoy
working with them, So yeah, I was glad to see
that they were in the show. That's pretty neat.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
So this will make you laugh. You mentioned that, and
you told me to look out for their display. And
we're here on what we're calling Radio one row. Radio
Row is where all the radio stations are sort of
in a little line, and we're here and you just
mentioned GMP, and so I'm looking out and I actually
during the break walked around to see if I could
find them. And imagine, you know the backdrop when they

(21:13):
do the presidential debates and they're like like Air Force
one is behind them, like as the big backdrop. I
just turned around as you said that and the truck
is ten feet away from us, and their entire display
like it goes all the way down one side of
the wall, and so yeah, right behind us the whole time.

Speaker 10 (21:33):
I think they've got a couple of my buddy's cars
there too. Actually, that white GT three RS number nine
nine to one. He was at Watkins go in with
us just a couple of months.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Ago, and I see it.

Speaker 10 (21:45):
Yeah, neat did. I was glad to see him there.
But anyway, that whole display, that whole area with the
muscle cars and a lot of interesting cars that always
like that, always enjoy that. But it's just great seeing
whatever manufacturers got to offer and kind of getting updated
on all the new stuff. I haven't been to the
show in two or three years now, so I'm probably

(22:07):
a little behind, but it's good to see everybody coming out.
They actually had me, the Dealer Association had me come
to their luncheon and they had a rep from a
zone manager from General Motors and a zone manager from
Ford there, and I was able to do it. It
was kind of like a little, you know, a little

(22:29):
little discussion between them. I was kind of the moderator
and we had a really nice talk and kind of
explored a lot about what the manufacturers are thinking and
what they're doing. But yeah, and you know, we're actually
having a pretty good year in the business right now.
It's been an interesting year, been a little up and down.
You know, this whole tariff thing got people all out

(22:50):
of whack, and nobody knows still exactly what the ultimate
impact of that's going to be because it keeps changing,
you know. So, uh, that's all been pretty interesting. I
think the last time I was in the studio we
talked a lot about domestic content and how you know,
most vehicles are not much more than fifty percent of

(23:11):
their parts derived out of the US. They come from
countries all over the world, and that's kind of the
nature of the beast.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Now, well, I'm looking at a lot of the American
brands are here. You know, you have Ford has a
big presence, Bwick has a big presence, Chevrolet has a
big presence here.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
And I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
I was talking about this a little bit earlier. I
took a sharp, sharp left turn mid conversation just to
go check out the brand new Ford Bronco on displaying here. Yep,
and me and she's abute the.

Speaker 10 (23:44):
Bronco's done really well. That's been a real winner for
for and by the way, it's it's taken a swath
out of Jeep Wrangler business. The Wrangler's down quite a bit,
and a lot of that I think is due to
the Bronco. I think the Bronco is definitely nibbled on
that market pretty good. You know, the Wrangler kind of
had that all of themselves for a long long time.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Well she's just she's just retro enough to make you
feel nostalgic, but has all these and whistles of something new.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (24:14):
Absolutely, So that's that's pretty neat and glad to see
them being successful with that. I think the Machi has
done well with you know, their electric car has done
pretty well for them. But the Ford F series truck,
you know, just talking about sales, and nothing's changed too
dramatically this year in terms of what the best sellers are.

(24:37):
The Ford F series pickup has been the best seller
for probably over three decades now and it still is
and it is again this year. And they've already sold
six hundred thousand of them in the first three quarters.
So you know, in a really good year, that truck
will get close to selling a million units. They've had
years when they sold nine hundred and fifty nine hundred

(24:58):
and seventy thousand Ford F series pickup trucks in the year.
So it's number one again. The Chevy Silverado's number two
of all the different car models. Those are the top two,
the Toyota Rev four and the Honda CRV or third
and fourth. So the compact SUVs have moved up kind
of the upper end of the top ten now. And

(25:21):
those vehicles, by the way, the Honda CRV, over fifty
percent of those are hybrid, and almost fifty percent of
the REMP fours are hybrid, so the hybrid technology has
really really been popular among those.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Well, if you come down here, you know, you could
walk the floor and you can see the different brands.
I just during the break took a walk. It was
just about enough time I needed to go down there
and then come back and I snapped a picture of
what I want my future car to be and sent
it to my wife and she said, what is this?
And I said, I just wanted you didn't know what

(25:54):
it looks like. You know, in thirty years when I
can finally get the car.

Speaker 11 (25:58):
And what's that car boats and what is tell you
after the break, because we're going to continue with Tom
Blocker here from the auto show, the Charlotte Auto Show
at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Both Thompson and Beth Troutman in for Brett winterbul this afternoon.

Speaker 12 (26:12):
Come out vow racing as a color most sport, all
part of the spectacle.

Speaker 13 (26:16):
Well, I have no intention of ever becoming one. It
was Henry Ford who said any color as long as
it's black, and I agree, elegant, quiet, basic black. Speaking
of quiet, I think we're more likely to fall into
some useful information.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
We don't blow in like a hurricane.

Speaker 13 (26:32):
All right, low profile, you know me, Michael, Compared to
these rolling billboards, I will be the soul of discretion.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
And we're back from the Charlotte Convention Center, Land of
cars as far as the eye can see. Folk Thompson,
Beth Troutman in for Brett Winterbule this afternoon. You don't
know who we are. I hope you'll listen to WBT
in the morning because we're on every morning, including today.
We're on our second shift of the day and we'll

(27:01):
be back tomorrow morning. That's exactly right, because we love
radio and each other. I mean as friends six six
am to ten am. It's myself, it's Beth, it's Jim Zochi,
it's a Boomer von Cannon, and of course Mark Garrison
in the news center, and Sir Steven of Anthony is

(27:22):
with us on site, one of our producers in the
morning who's a radio genius in his own right. And
of course Bernie Bowls and we have a great time
every day and hopefully some of you listening today may
check us out tomorrow for the first time. We'd love that.
We had a listener today that called us out in
his boat fishing on Lake Norman and just just how
it goes sometimes. Yeah, we have on the WBT hotline.

(27:44):
Since we're here at the Charlotte Auto Show. Got to
go to the Auto show or better get sung. But
one of the people I associate most with cars in
the auto industry, his name is Tom Blocker. He is
our longtime auto expert. He was the longtime host of
Wheels with Tom Blocker back about ten years ago, and

(28:06):
that's where I met him, and I said, coming to
the auto show. If you can't come in person, you
got to call in. And he is with us right now. Tom,
it's so good to hear your voice.

Speaker 10 (28:14):
Man, what's great to be on with you guys again.
It's great to hear your voices.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Well, we have missed.

Speaker 10 (28:19):
You're gonna tell us about that dream car.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Yes, so, I was saying to Tom before the break.
I went down to the Toyota section and decided to
check out. I wanted to see what's the new fore
Runner look like, because that's that's my car. I've had
two fore Runners in my life have I love that
car and I love Toyotas. And I've had other cars too,
I've had Hondas. Hondas are great and Ford. So I mean, look,

(28:43):
you can can't go wrong here with all the different
brands that are assembled. But I had to see because
I know they just recently came out with a new
look for the for the Forerunner, and man, I want
that car yesterday.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
See this is what I love about Bo, Tom said.
And Tom likes he's around all all of these cars.
I mean he could have he could have said the
Lamborghini over here is his dream car, but he's practical.
He wants the Toyota for a Runner, right.

Speaker 10 (29:08):
He knows what he likes and he's you know, that's
something that'll kind of do at all. And you know,
the Tacoma was redone for this year. In the Tacoma,
sales have doubled in twenty five versus twenty four with
the new model, and of course that the Forerunner has
a lot of that same you know, a lot of
the same platform is the is the Tacoma. So yeah,

(29:31):
that thing will be very successful, I'm sure, and you
ought to go ahead and get you a new one.
Bo it's time.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Well it's it's on the horizon, but the horizon seems
very far away right now. But but I hey, that's
the beauty of the auto show is you can browse
and see and sit inside and really sort of do
things at a level you can't always do when you're
on the lot. I mean sometimes you can, but I
mean you're never going to have this many different models

(29:56):
brand new, with all the bells and whistiles in one place.
That's the beauty of the auto show. So whatever car
you're looking for, come down here and find it. And then,
like Tom was saying, it's practical cars, but it's also
exotic cars and cars that you don't see anywhere else.
And you know, Tom, we've talked a lot about financing
a car over the years. It was really getting to

(30:17):
the point post pandemic there where you were you go
to a lot and you barely saw any cars. And
now we've kind of swung back in the other direction.
What would you say the health of the industry is
right now post COVID.

Speaker 10 (30:30):
Well, it's pretty strong. But the one thing that's been
occurring ever since the pandemic, you know, from twenty nineteen,
when the average transaction price was somewhere around thirty four thousand,
if I remember correctly, somewhere in that range. Last month
the average transaction price for a new vehicle was fifty
thousand dollars. It's the first time it's ever e feeded

(30:53):
fifty thousand dollars. So we've seen this just gradual movement
of the average transaction rain that is a shift from
cars to SUVs. You know, that's created a lot of it,
but a lot of it is just pure inflation and
everything's costing more. And you know, you're talking about a
fairly a fairly average car now costing you know, forty

(31:15):
five to fifty thousand dollars. So with the average transaction
being fifty thousand. What's happened is the average financing term
now is up to sixty eight months on a new car,
so it's almost six years that people are financing these vehicles.
The average rate is nine percent, but that could be
for a really excellent credit customer, it could be in

(31:39):
the fives, and for a subprime customer it could be
up to twenty, you know, but the average is about
nine percent. But another thing that kind of is astonishing
to me is eighty four month loans are now being offered.
Seven year loansow nineteen percent of all new car loans
this year. We're eighty four months, so that's one out

(32:01):
of five buyers are financing for seven years. And you know,
the concern I have with that is when you go
to trade, there's a real good chance you're going to
be upside down in that car. You know, you may
owe more than what it's worth on that long term financing.
Nineteen percent of new car buyers had a payment over
one thousand dollars this year, So I mean the prices

(32:25):
are going up. I mean, if you start looking at
something like full size SUVs, you know, a GMC Denialator,
a Cadillac Escalator or a Lincoln Navigator or something like that.
You can easily get up around one hundred thousand dollars
on one of those vehicles. So you know, the pricing
has gone up, and so people are having to change
the way they're financing to adjust to that. And now

(32:48):
what's kind of happened as a result of that is
delinquencies are going up on subprime loans. The buyers that
have credit scores of six fifty or less six and
a half percent of those loans or sixty days behind.
So you know, that's a little bit of a concern now.
So that's kind of the caution. I think business is

(33:11):
still pretty good. The industry is rolling. We're still going
to probably come in around sixteen million new units this year.
But you know, I think the subprime buyer is getting
himself in a bind right now. They're getting themselves in
a little bit of a bind.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Well, Tom, we're up against the clock. You know how
this works here. I'd love to talk longer. I'll touch
base with you soon, but I couldn't imagine doing this
show today from the auto Show and not hearing from you.
So we appreciate you calling in sure thing.

Speaker 10 (33:37):
Bo good talking to you guys, and go over and
say hi to the GMP folks.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
If you get a chance, we'll do it.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
And we hope that knee of yours heels really quickly.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
My friend, I'm coming along.

Speaker 10 (33:47):
Yeah, thank you a lot.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
There's the legend himself, Tom Blocker. When we come back.

Speaker 14 (33:51):
And Hea hoo Horden Heather wo Eugene THEO.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Eugene Robinson is in the house and he will join
us on set.

Speaker 12 (34:01):
I'm not your ordinary every day fool.

Speaker 14 (34:03):
Okay, now, I O went to myself to tell you,
mister Griswold, but if you're thinking of taking the Tribe
press country, this is the automobile you should be using.
You think you hate it now, but wait till you
drive it.

Speaker 12 (34:14):
I don't want to drive it. I just want my
old car back. Okay, I'm not falling for this bit.
Oh way, let's called Rice, all right.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Hour number two from the Charlotte Convention Center, Brette Winter
will show in full effect. But today it sounds a
little bit different because it's Bo and Beth from Good
Morning bat in for mister winterboll And We'll be here
until six o'clock. But as we start the four o'clock hour.
It's not just Beth, it's not just bow definitely.

Speaker 15 (35:18):
Green.

Speaker 5 (35:18):
And then he got pepper loop Cheapley, picks him up,
walks him like a loop baby fit a cradle, and
then smash his head.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Ready, you know, comes a sound.

Speaker 9 (35:33):
Ready, And now.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
How about that? That can only mean one thing and
one thing only on our show in the morning, when
this guy graces us with its presence, or sometimes we
get him on the phone. You see him on w
C and see Charlotte on Charlotte Today, part of the
Carolina Panthers Radio network, the one the only You. Geene Robins, No, man,

(36:02):
I'm doing good. How are you doing that? You're here?
I would know we were walking in.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
I was just walking in and I saw your handsome
face and was like, wait a minute, that's Eugene Robinson.
So I yelled across the entire college, the entire convention center, and.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
I recognized your voice. I was like, hold on, was
that Beth?

Speaker 2 (36:17):
And I turned around.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
I recognized your voice. And then I didn't know that
you guys were going to be down here at the
at the auto show.

Speaker 4 (36:24):
Here.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
Well, it's such a treat that we get to see you.
Now you because you are the host of Charlotte Today
along with Colleen Notreguard. You're here shooting some stuff for
your TV show, so you got some access that a
lot of people don't have don't have, and you can
tell people about what they can see when they come to.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
Oh yes, this is the place you want to go
ahead and be out.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
I was talking to the the event director a mod
Halloween and he kind of took me through, you know,
the vehicles, the EV vehicles, the Duke EV test dride
at the market stuff. There is so much here as
over almost overwhelmed me. Yeah, it really is. But this
is a place that you need to be if you're

(37:05):
looking for a car. They have everything that you need.
And I love this like sports after market, Uh place
that we are where you guys are actually well you
guys are in the same area. It's absolutely beautiful. But
it kind of takes you back to old time cars.
And I've seen a pors I've seen this. Uh there's
a little Chrysler Plymouth with the kind of loss you're like,

(37:27):
lowrider thing. That was I'm like, my goodness, this is
this is nostalgic for me a little bit.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
So it was really really good, and so they got
a kid zone.

Speaker 5 (37:34):
They got a lot of stuff here for families and
for singles. This is the place you need to be.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
Do you. Of course, everybody remembers what was what was
the first car you ever driven?

Speaker 5 (37:43):
My Maxima? I bought a maximum when I first got
into the league. I bought this nineteen eighty five black
Maxima and I put an after market kid on it,
like a spoiler thing like that. And it was a
stick shift because I always wanted to drive a stick
and didn't know how to drive it.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
So I learned on my Maxima. Took a tour. A
couple of clutches too, by the way, But guess what
I learned how to drive a stick? I told you, clutches.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
I learned how to drive a stick on a nineteen
seventy three Volkswagon Beetle.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
Oh wow. Oh yes.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
And it was a hand me down like it was
several people had driven it before me. But I mean,
I feel like kids today. It's one of those those
rights of passage to learn how to drive a stick.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Shit, it does it is.

Speaker 5 (38:22):
I taught my son. I end up getting a graduated
to a porch, but I graduate to it. I did
not a porch, but I ended up giving that to
my son. But I made him learn how to drive
a stick. I said, Man, you're gonna love once you
drive a stick. It's like it's different. It's not automatic,
it's just different. You feel more in control.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Well, do you feel in control until you're at a
stop let on a hill?

Speaker 5 (38:44):
I know, yeah, but you got to learn how to
go ahead and balance that where you can go ahead
and engage it.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
How how far are you back, how far are you up?
And whatnot?

Speaker 5 (38:51):
So I like being up on a hill because I
could go ahead and test my skill.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
All right, now, you be honest with me. Here, are
you able to stick for another segment? Or you gotta
ge out of it?

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Got sick for something?

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Because I want to talk about the Panthers too.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
Yes, me too.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
It's a big, big, big game coming up, I said
to Eugene when he sat down, and Zoc and I
were talking about this the other day on our show
and Beth too. So the Panthers have been on sporadic
Monday and Thursday games, but this game coming up in
San Francisco on Monday night. I feel like it's the
first time really since that twenty fifteen era where we're
playing for something it matters.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
Yeah, I mean this game really doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (39:26):
And how up and down that the Carolina Panthers have been,
and particularly when we saw that Saints game where we
thought that we would actually blow them out and that
did not happen, and then we go down to Atlanta
and we win a really tough game.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
It's almost like a doctor Juckle missed the high thing
a little bit.

Speaker 5 (39:43):
But the Carolina Panthers are a lot better than what
we see and I think that moving forward and going forward,
I'm excited because I think Coach Canalis really does have
the team turned around. Defensively, we are so much better,
and offensively, some the weapons that we got with team
back and Legett and Jalen Cocher and rico'dowdell, there's a

(40:07):
lot to be excited about.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
All those guys are on my fantasy Oh did you go?

Speaker 2 (40:13):
Best fantasy football team? Is a slow burn?

Speaker 4 (40:15):
Did you go to? Really?

Speaker 2 (40:17):
You know?

Speaker 4 (40:18):
Well?

Speaker 3 (40:18):
It was it was I had there was a menu
that was down and I only had the Panthers available.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
I just thought that it was because I was in Charlotte.
She drafted Jake the loon. All right, So Eugene's gonna
stick with us or you know what, as Mick mix
And used to say, Genie rob rob is with us,
and he's gonna hang out for one more segment here
at the Charlotte Auto Show from the Charlotte Convention Center.
It's Bow and Beth from Good Morning BT six to
ten am weekdays in for Brett Winterble this afternoon. You

(40:55):
knew I was gonna do it. Come on now, that's it.
This is all Eugene Robinson is right here, and by
right here, I mean right at the Charlotte Convention Center
for the twenty twenty five Charlotte Auto Show. Eugene Robinson.
You see him on Charlotte Today with Colleen Odegard over
on w CNC Charlotte and of course the Carolina Panthers

(41:16):
Radio Network. And this is just the place to be today.

Speaker 4 (41:20):
It is, it is, this is this is the place
you want to be.

Speaker 5 (41:23):
I mean here, it is. The all show is gonna
be going all through the week. But it's there's so
much to see here and so much to do. If
you if you, like I said, if you're looking for
a car, even if you're not looking for a car.
You may not be a car enthusiast, You're gonna come
down here and be wild, you really will.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
Yeah, it's something for everybody here. And he just connected
us with a woman who's going to join us at
four thirty five, who, as she said it, is the
curator of built different boulevard. Yes, which really is extends
out beyond what we can see here. But she knows,
she knows what all this, how this all interconnects.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
She knows all the cars. These are the after market
cars and this is a new innovation. She said that
this year, and these cars right here, she knows everything
about it. And there's so much history, is so much
detail to it, and I'll let her good.

Speaker 4 (42:08):
And tell it.

Speaker 5 (42:09):
But the car that we look at in front of
us is a half a million dollar car right there,
and I'm like, this really that car?

Speaker 4 (42:15):
She said yes, And she goes through almost.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
Like the history of all these cars where there's a
low rider on the porch, all that stuff. She knows
everything about it because she curated the spot.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
That's why they have like a bar in front of
it between us cars. That's what they do, all right,
Monday night, Santa Clara, you were there in twenty fifteen
when the Panthers played in Super Bowl fifty against the
Denver Broncos, and we know how that one ended. You know,
it could have been a better ending, but hey, you

(42:45):
were in the Super Bowl. And so this game being
back there that place is always gonna hold some juice
for the Carolina Panthers. But when you think about this,
Bryce Young is NFC Player of the Week. Yes, Bryce
Young broke Cam Newton's all time passing records. Big game,
and then on top of all that, Christian McCaffrey on

(43:06):
Monday night.

Speaker 5 (43:07):
See, I think it's going to be really a really
highly contested game, and I think I think we found
our stride on the offense because coach Kanalis has been
saying all week long, the last couple of weeks about
having a balance attack. We've been so run heavy with
ric o'dodo. Everybody pikes the box eight minute up there,
and now they're they're daring Bryce Young to pass the

(43:28):
ball the safety that he didn't come up to the
challenge the Atlanta Felcas in it, and guess what he
scored him for four hundred and forty eight yards and
three touchdowns. That don't forget that extra point, the two
point conversion of Jayleen Cocher on that little severn out
in the back. He was absolutely sensational, and I think,
kind of moving forward, that's where we are.

Speaker 4 (43:47):
I'm like, you know what, I like.

Speaker 5 (43:48):
Our chances, even going down there on a Monday night,
I really do like our chances to go ahead and
upset a team like we did the Green Bay Packers.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
Well, look, he looked like the quarterback that we thought
he could be after we drafted him from Alabama exactly.

Speaker 4 (44:03):
I mean, and don't forget.

Speaker 5 (44:05):
I mean, it's almost like he's been like trying so
hard to like win over the public. And the way
that you went over the public is you just got
to go ahead and perform. And that performance that you
did it warranted a NFC Player of the Week.

Speaker 4 (44:18):
It did because it was spectacular.

Speaker 5 (44:20):
And so I'm looking forward to how we go into
San Francisco and deficively, I think we can actually limit
them and what they do and what they do with
Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
What happens if we beat them?

Speaker 4 (44:32):
Then?

Speaker 2 (44:32):
What then?

Speaker 3 (44:33):
What is the what's the what's the conversation about the
Carolina Panthers?

Speaker 5 (44:36):
The conversation moves into that Carolina Panthers are one of
the favorites and to go ahead and find themselves in
the playoffs. Uh, No longer's Tampa Bay the you know,
the darling here on the NFC South at all. So
it really moves us very forward. It moves us, you know,
exponentially for it. If we win that game, don't forget

(44:57):
it's a game against an opponent that we shouldn't win
the game because started the season and people are going
like this, Oh, they're gonna lose to the Packers. They're
gonna lose to San Francisco. Oh, they're gonna lose to Dallas.
People are already marketing it off and that hasn't been
the case. So if we win, surprise, surprise, get ready
for the Carolina Panthers to find themselves a playoff spot.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Well, if you look at the NFC South right now,
the Bucks are in first place, six and four, the
Panthers are six and five. So Sunday night it's the
Bucks playing the Rams. Uh in prime time. So if
if you see here, I'm going here. Yes, if the
Bucks lose then and the Panthers went on Monday night,
we could be in first place by the end Tuesday morning.

Speaker 4 (45:37):
A half game in first place.

Speaker 5 (45:39):
Yeah, you know so, and and that's what I'm I'm
really looking for. I'm looking you know, I'm you know,
people say I'm bullish on the on on the Panthers.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
I am. I played for the Panthers. I love the Panthers.

Speaker 6 (45:50):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (45:51):
I think they are a really really good team.

Speaker 5 (45:52):
And I think it's a team that we've slowly built,
that's emerging, young team that's really proven themselves a little
bit here too.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Don't forget those are not easy wins. People think it's
easy to win a football game. It ain't.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
Well, sorry, how hard is it?

Speaker 1 (46:07):
Like?

Speaker 2 (46:07):
How big a deal was it to you that they
win in Lambeau and won that game?

Speaker 4 (46:11):
Huge?

Speaker 5 (46:12):
I mean, I played for the Green Bay Packers two years.
That place, Lambeau. Those fans are rabbit. There's some of
a mystique there. People get there and get in, you know,
enamorate with the stadium, and it's that and they forget
that they're playing against the Packers and there's so much lower,
so much stuff that goes on that you forget about
a football game, and then you forget that the team
he played is really really good and so to go

(46:33):
in there and to really shut them down offensively. Our
defense is really good, and to match some point for
point that was huge. And that's what that's That's what
I you know what I like about Bryce. You know,
you want to count him out, but I can't count
him out. I want to say he's not the guy,
but I think he's the guy. And so from that standpoint,

(46:53):
I'm like, you know what, I'm riding with Bryce. I'm
riding with Bryce Jong.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
We've gone through lots of coaches in the last ye
years here with the Carolina Panther Panthers. What makes coach
Canalis different? What makes the difference?

Speaker 5 (47:06):
I think that one, he's transparent in the locker room.
Now he's not like he doesn't, you know, give all
the good stuff to the reporters.

Speaker 4 (47:15):
But in the locker room.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
He's extremely respected, extreme and he's a don't forget he's young.
He's a young coach. I mean, he's in this early forties.
He's very very young. And those this guy's who like
thirty six thirty seven or maybe thirty two thirty three,
they're not too far from his age, and they like
him and they want to play for him, and they
believe in what is what he's doing. Offensively, he came

(47:38):
in here and had to go ahead and sell a
new defense and a new offense. After we had coach
Rule coach, coach Steve Wilks, the other special Cheams coach,
and we went through four coaches Frank right, So we
went through four coaches right, and now he set it
on his system and Bryce is believing in the system,
and so is everybody else. That means that watch out

(47:59):
because once they get it and it clicks, and you know,
any Kim could be any tape and the one that
you know, the margin for winning and losing is based
on your confidence that you can go into anything that
you can win. I mean, I don't if I'm going
to get you a ball, I'm.

Speaker 4 (48:13):
Like, look, you ain't. You're not running by me, do
You're not?

Speaker 2 (48:17):
I'm not running by you.

Speaker 5 (48:20):
You know, And I'm gonna hit him legally in the face, legally.
So but it comes out to that individual effort. And
once your confidence gets built up, like it's starting to
get built up, watch out. That's you know, it's contagious,
and that's what winning starts.

Speaker 4 (48:36):
Well.

Speaker 2 (48:36):
I remember when I first met you and before I
met you. Actually I was working with Razinski and you
came in on his show. Is actually at a different station.
This is like, this is like a two thousand and
five ish But I remember the first thing that I
ever remember used to say is you stand up and
say handle your business. You know that's right now, That's
always that always wrings in my head. And you know what,
the Panthers have an opportunity to handle their business, and I'm.

Speaker 4 (49:00):
Looking forward to it.

Speaker 5 (49:00):
And don't forget, I know that Christian McCaffrey's on the
other side of the ledger. I totally get it. He
is a beast. He's one of my favorite players. But
I really believe that the defense of the Carolina Panthers,
they've been stopping some of the best running backs, and
I would imagine that they're gonna probably stop stop some
of the best running backs again. So I'm looking forward

(49:23):
to seeing what we are able to come up with
to to limit what Christian McCaffrey does, because he is
that good.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
So Bath and I knew that when we came down
here this afternoon, we had some plans in place, but
then we'd run into people, and I cannot imagine a
better person for us to have run into Eugene on
the show here, so man, it's always great to see you.
We love you.

Speaker 4 (49:44):
There we go.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
This is this playout song.

Speaker 4 (49:50):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
There we go.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
Thanks you buy all right?

Speaker 2 (49:52):
Man, be good to see Eugene on Charlotte Today with
you with Colleen on on w C and Charlotte and
of course the parent Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Going Beth
here in for Brett Winterble. I know Winterable did play
this kind of music, but we do when we fill in.
So we're having fun. From the Auto Show. We'll be
here till six. Much more to come. In fact, the

(50:14):
lady that Eugene introduced us to that knows where everything
is here and how it all entered connects. Come see
us at the Charlotte Auto Show. The show first day
open till nine tonight at the Convention Center. Welcome back
News Talk eleven ten WBT. We're live from the Charlotte
Convention Center, the Car Show, the Auto Show, the Charlotte

(50:37):
Auto Show for twenty twenty five. And by the way,
if you're listening expecting to heart Brett Winterble, he is
off today. We were called in earlier this week to
hold down the Fort, and we said, hey, we get
to go to the Auto Show.

Speaker 4 (50:50):
You kidding me?

Speaker 2 (50:51):
So here we are. Yes, we were on the air
this morning, so we're sort of on a rocket fuel
at this point. Yeah, I said, we will be back
on air tomorrow morning. Yes we will. And so much
so thankful for Eugene Robinson for dropping by a few
minutes ago from Charlotte Today on WCNC Charlotte. But Eugene,
and we trust what Eugene says implicitly says, Hey, listen,

(51:13):
you need to talk to that lady over there, and
she pointed to a woman named Tamson Bee Roth who
is now on our set. She owns Speedology Lifestyle Solutions,
and as Eugene said, or actually she said this, she
is the curator of what's called Built Different Boulevard here
in the main showroom at the Charlotte Convention Center. So look,

(51:34):
you came on highly recommended here. Thank you so much
for joining us on the set.

Speaker 16 (51:40):
Thank you, Bo and Beth. It is a pleasure to
be here.

Speaker 15 (51:43):
And we are so excited about the Charlotte Auto Show
for twenty twenty five. We have curated a twenty thousand
square foot area. It's the newest activation. It's called Built
Different Boulevard. We have specialty cars, race cars, domestic carsport cars,
racing simulators, off road vehicles. We even have a few

(52:04):
ladies here that are racers, so they actually brought their
race cars. So again it's family friendly. It's all about
the Charlotte car community. We're celebrating the local car culture
for all of the right reasons. We also have Dame
and Paid in Full Car Club. They're a nostalgia eighties
and nineties car club, and they brought BMW's Mercedes Volvos.

(52:28):
He has a station wagon with a racing simulator in
the back.

Speaker 2 (52:32):
Now where is that in relation to where we are
right now?

Speaker 16 (52:34):
So we are to the left of us.

Speaker 15 (52:37):
Right now we're looking at a lineup of Mercedes and
BMW's the red cars. Okay, So again Dame with Paid
in Full very respected amongst the car community, his car club,
and he really brought the heat, the variety. And again
he's here to talk with local enthusiasts, people who really
don't know much about the nostalgia of radwood type style cars.

(53:00):
But again we have custom you know, a thirty four
to five window forward we're looking at right now we
have an eighty six Grand National that John Hoskins of
Hoskiss Suspension got from Bobby Allison. We also have a
fifteen hundred horse power nineteen sixty five custom Mustang.

Speaker 16 (53:19):
It's the brightest red.

Speaker 15 (53:21):
It brought the heat fifteen hundred horse power without the
nitrous courtesy of Blown Mafia.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
So we're ten feet away from that thing right now.

Speaker 16 (53:29):
It rattled the room when he drove it in yesterday.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
So the reason I asked where you're talking about the
station wagon in some of the eighties cars. I'm trying
to plan my every time we take a break, I'm
planning what I can go see and get back here
by the time the next segment starts. He's tooing around.
I gotta go this is this is awesome.

Speaker 3 (53:48):
Well, I'll tell you one of my favorites that I've
never seen anything like it. There's an Impala that you
can come by and see that has I don't even
know how to describe the kit. It's what are they
The back tires are lower than the front tires, and
you have a paint job on this car that almost
it's so unique that it almost looks like the.

Speaker 15 (54:08):
Car is wallpapered almost so that's Abraham's and Paula. So
those are what we call a lowrider lower They have
the really small rims and tires, but their suspension allow
it to manipulate for show purposes, so we call it
that pancaking.

Speaker 3 (54:22):
Okay, pancaking. So see I'm not cool enough. I was like,
I don't know. The tires are low.

Speaker 2 (54:27):
Laid back in our mind, on our money and our
money on our mind.

Speaker 3 (54:30):
But there are so many options for people to see.
The Other thing about the race cars that you brought up,
these are not race cars that you're going to see
actually racing at Charlotte Hitter Speedway.

Speaker 2 (54:39):
These are from films.

Speaker 3 (54:40):
These are famous race cars, correct.

Speaker 15 (54:42):
So we do need to give a very big thank
you to mister Hendrick and Hendrick Performance. At Build Different
the Build Different Boulevard display, we have four of his
race cars. We have the Days of Thunder Could Trickle
Chevrolet Love It on display. We have the Transformer movie
Auto Bought called.

Speaker 16 (55:02):
Top Spin YEP.

Speaker 15 (55:04):
In addition, we have the Garage fifty six NASCAR lamon car. Now,
this is probably the most respected, the most racing automotive
heritage vehicle here because Lamon. If anyone knows about that
Garage fifty six, not every single year someone new comes
to compete.

Speaker 16 (55:21):
Hendrick brought that a few years ago.

Speaker 15 (55:22):
So Garage fifty six Lamon, that is a very prestigious
vehicle to even be out and about. So again, couldn't
be happier to have it here on display. We also
have Jimmy Johnson's MSA car that was a podium winner.
So with Cadillac and Ally again four specialty cars celebrating
the racing heritage. And again for mister Hendrick and Hendrick Performance,

(55:44):
they've really brought the horsepower to build different boulevard.

Speaker 3 (55:47):
Well, and speaking of horsepower, can we give you a
little shout out too, because you are a racer, you're
a drag racer yourself. Can we talk about this on
the air, that you are a person who gets out
there and shows people how it's done.

Speaker 16 (55:59):
It's more of a private tier.

Speaker 15 (56:01):
So I have a niece on GTR which is a
six cylinder car twin turbo. The power that you can
get out of these cars now are pretty impressive. Summer
I'm over a thousand horsepower, but I really enjoy half
mile racing. So we go across the country and participate
in half mile events at airport runways.

Speaker 2 (56:20):
Oh my gosh, that's so cool.

Speaker 3 (56:21):
And you were telling me this is some fact that
I did not know, but I'm gonna use it on
you guys. In the morning, I work with all the
guys in the morning.

Speaker 2 (56:28):
It's all men and me, So I don't know you
need to know this.

Speaker 3 (56:33):
Women apparently are great racers, especially drag racers, because we
have a quicker reaction.

Speaker 15 (56:38):
Time anytime you get up to the Christmas tree, so
the start line, and again we have Britney Fierce, Britney Force.
Right now, who's the fastest woman in nhr A. Right,
So women have been proven to have the fastest reaction
times at the dragstrip.

Speaker 16 (56:54):
So guys watch out when.

Speaker 4 (56:57):
It race me.

Speaker 2 (56:57):
Guys, Damson, can you stick around for second? Sure you're
looking Encyclopedia of the Auto Show? Here the Charlotte Auto
Show from the Charlotte Convention Center starting up today going
through the weekend. I should have known that Tamson would
know Tom Blocker. Oh, of course, Tom Blocker knows everybody.
And I said, do you know Tom?

Speaker 4 (57:17):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (57:17):
Yeah, I mean Tom had knee surgery recently, so he's
not here in person this year, but he was with
us last hour and longtime friend of the show in
the station. But I should have known that you all
knew each other because Tamson obviously knows a lot about
what's going on here. We'll continue to pick her brain,
and we'd love to have you stop by down here
and say hello. Also, we won't be here tomorrow be

(57:39):
back on our own show, but the event goes through
the weekend. We'll give you the times and remind you
all the details you need to know. From the Charlotte
Auto Show Live from the Charlotte Convention Center, it's Bo
and Beth from Good Morning BT in for Brett Winterbole Today.
We're here till six. Hey, you know that sounds like
a really cool show.

Speaker 7 (57:58):
Yeah, people should listen to that.

Speaker 2 (58:00):
I might want to check that one out. Yeah, I
think I'm gonna listen tomorrow. Hey, it's the same voices
because we're doing double duty today. We had a Good
Morning VT from six to ten am, and now we
are holding down the fort for Brett Winnable until six
pm tonight. Live from the Charlotte Auto Show at the
Charlotte Convention Center. It's Bo and Beth and with us

(58:22):
on the set right here. So thankful to have Tamson
b Roth with the Speedology Lifestyle Solutions. Who really is
I said this a minute ago an encyclopedia of all
things Charlotte Auto Show, and we were talking about some
of the exhibits here. We're talking about some of the
vehicles here. There's a lot of cars that are here
on loan for the weekend that belong to people that

(58:44):
you can see, and obviously novelty type cars and then
cars that if you're looking to buy a new car,
we want to see what the latest and greatest out there.
I was talking about going and looking at the Toyota
four Runners a little while ago. But Tamson, what else
should we know? If people are listening right now and
they're trying to their plans for tonight or the weekend,
what would you say to compel them to come here?

Speaker 15 (59:05):
So the twenty twenty five Charlotte Auto Shows bringing some
amazing opportunities for public engagement.

Speaker 16 (59:11):
The test drive for the ev cars.

Speaker 15 (59:13):
You didn't mention that that's full engagement, super fun, full throttle,
full breaking.

Speaker 16 (59:18):
Check it out.

Speaker 15 (59:19):
Additionally, did you know super you could actually look at
dogs for adoption.

Speaker 3 (59:23):
Oh yes, I almost grabbed one and adopted him all
the way here, that little Oh it's so much fun
that they.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
Have, like the dogs are in the same Yes, yeah,
want you to adopt. Oh well, I'm not going to
go look at the super rus because otherwise I'll leave
with the dog. Another dog. We have two. My wife
does as well. So well. And and we were talking
during the break. I said to you, so, what's what's
the what's the car here or or the group of
cars that you're most excited about, because you're the one

(59:50):
who could look at all this and make sense of
it in a way that we can't. Like, what's the
thing that you're so excited that is here?

Speaker 15 (59:55):
I'm excited about everyone because these are friends and family
of mine and the diversity that everyone wanted to come together.

Speaker 16 (01:00:01):
However, I do have a special place in my heart
for our high horse power cars.

Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 15 (01:00:07):
So with that being said, we have a supercharged Lamborghini
Hurrican Perfemante.

Speaker 16 (01:00:12):
It's about nine hundred.

Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
Horsepower, Oh, Joel, only nine hundred, and it's.

Speaker 15 (01:00:16):
The most gorgeous car with the custom wheels you've ever seen.
Darryln Mandy that they've done that car right, it's super impressive.

Speaker 16 (01:00:23):
You have to see it in person.

Speaker 15 (01:00:25):
Next to that, we have another Lamborghini Hurrican twin turbot
from Underground Racing with sixteen hundred horse power.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Wow.

Speaker 15 (01:00:32):
So the Lamborghinis have a special place for me. But
we also have a nine hundred horse power nine to
eleven turbos. It's gray, the silver paint is meticulously maintained.
The custom wheels are great. But I will tell you
we have a nineteen seventy four Lancey Erace car super rare.
Most people don't even know what it is. It's here

(01:00:52):
on display at built different boulevards, so people need to
come see it and check it out and appreciate it
for what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
And the paint on these cars are just remarkable. They're
all creative, beautiful, lovely.

Speaker 15 (01:01:05):
And you know what the funny part about it is,
we're looking at a thirty four custom Forward right now.
The green paint, it's prestigious. But next to it, we
have a nineteen eighty six Grand National that John Hodgkinscott
from Bobby Allison.

Speaker 16 (01:01:18):
The paints still in great condition. Look under the lights
right now.

Speaker 15 (01:01:21):
So again the care and the genuine sincerity that these
people have for their vehicles.

Speaker 16 (01:01:27):
Whether it's an import and exotic, a specialty car, a low.

Speaker 15 (01:01:30):
Rider, an off road truck or a jeep, everyone really
takes pride because again, Built Different Boulevard is about these
owners telling the story about their car because it represents
their personality well.

Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
And you get to have an experience, especially when you're
in this part, this section of the Auto Show. You
have in this Built Different Boulevard an opportunity for people
to experience two different race simulators.

Speaker 15 (01:01:55):
We do so Danny with Fast Laps sim Racing has
a trailer with two simulator so you can battle your
best friend, or your dad or your mom. It's a
five minute experience. It's free, so again you can come
test your racing skills from a racing simulator. Additionally, we
have with Project race Car and again for the gear

(01:02:15):
heads out there, we have a twenty twenty two Lamborghini
Super Trafeo Evo two.

Speaker 16 (01:02:21):
It's a street legal race car.

Speaker 15 (01:02:24):
But Hunter and Seth, the brothers over there who are
dear friends of mine, they have a racing simulator as well.
So again family friendly. This is totally engaging. We want
people to come spend time with us, learn about the
local businesses, but enjoy the car culture again that we
brought Ford built, different built, different boulevard, and really appreciate
you know again.

Speaker 16 (01:02:44):
And these owners are here.

Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
Oh wow, so you can talk to that.

Speaker 15 (01:02:47):
Absolutely, they're gonna be bouncing around and they want to
tell you about their cars because they're.

Speaker 16 (01:02:51):
So proud of them.

Speaker 15 (01:02:52):
We have father sons, we have husband wives, We've got grandfathers,
granddaughters that have built cars together. It's just it's really special.
It's unique, and we're so excited to be here.

Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
How many years is this for you involved.

Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
With this event?

Speaker 16 (01:03:07):
This is my first year.

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
This is her first. Oh my goodness, how did they
do this event without you in the past.

Speaker 15 (01:03:13):
No A Mod and his team, Cindy and Brittany, they
are amazing, the Charlotte Auto Show staff. They put on
a best in class presentation here for the community. Again
with all the activations, but we wanted to have something
just a little extra this year to celebrate the Queen
City car culture. And that's not just cars or trucks,
it's also the racing aspect.

Speaker 10 (01:03:33):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
I was talking to Tom last hour we were and
I've talked to Tom over the years you know, navigating
through the pandemic and the car buying selling scene. I
mean you drive by car lots and Charlotte and all
over the country. But I'm just going by what I
noticed here. There was a period of time during the

(01:03:54):
pandemic when you're wondering how is this industry gonna gonna recover?
And now you look around town and you look at
an event like this, and you know, everybody had to
navigate through the COVID nineteen in their own way. But
this I feel like, much like the Carolina Panthers are
back to those Carolina Panthers that we used to love

(01:04:15):
back in twenty fifteen era. We were talking about that
with Eugene. I feel like, you know, the Auto Show
is back in full force the way it has been
in recent years. And you know, if you've been thinking
about coming back by here, what a year to come back.

Speaker 15 (01:04:28):
Resiliency, Yes, I think that's a great word to put
to it. And again, the family friendly, the way that
the tickets support local organizations. The ticket sales go and
support Charlotte based organizations, whether it's education based or any
other veteran base that a Moudun has team put together.
That's something else that people really need to understand is

(01:04:48):
the Charlotte Auto Show just isn't about the latest and
greatest in cars. It's about supporting the community through fundraising
as well.

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
You really really know your stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
How did you get into this business and what you
do and your love for automobiles, your love for cars.

Speaker 15 (01:05:04):
I was privileged enough to come from a family where
my father was a executive at RJ. Reynolds that worked
with NASCAR and NHR and monster trucks and boat racing
and golf tournaments and country music promotion, all the fun stuff,
all the cool stuff growing up as a kid. So
I've been very lucky to be able to travel the country.

Speaker 16 (01:05:24):
Work with motorsports. But I also work for my day
to day.

Speaker 15 (01:05:28):
I work in an automotive software company, so I actually
support dealers in DMS and CRM, so I live and
breathe cars and racing. So every day that I get
the chance to get up and talk about built different
boulevard racing for women, whatever that may be, it's just
a privilege and an honor to have that platform.

Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Well you can tell that it's something you're passionate about
because you are a just beam of light sitting here,
your eyes light up. You can tell that you love
being in this space and being able.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
To talk about this well.

Speaker 16 (01:05:57):
And I appreciate that.

Speaker 15 (01:05:58):
And again, the biggest thing is to invite everyone listening
come to the Charlotte Auto Show, check out Built Different Boulevard,
have conversations, share stories, because what's funny enough is some
of the folks that have come here with some of
the specialty cars.

Speaker 16 (01:06:11):
They said, I.

Speaker 15 (01:06:12):
Came here with my dad when I was younger, and
now my car's on display and I'm bringing my kids
to look at my car at the Charlotte Auto Show.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Yeah, Charlotte Auto Show hours. We're obviously here now. Nine
pm is when doors closed tonight, then Tomorrow noon to nine,
Saturday ten to nine, and Sunday ten to six. Now
are you going to be here every day?

Speaker 16 (01:06:34):
I'm here every single day.

Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
So if somebody wants to come say hello to you
because they heard you talking to us, where do they
find you here?

Speaker 16 (01:06:40):
So I'm going to be all around Built Different Boulevard.

Speaker 15 (01:06:42):
But I do have a little area with the GMP
performance of Lake Norman and Charlotte. Stephen and his group
are an amazing partner of mine. So if anyone would
like to speak with me or follow me on Instagram.
It's Speedology LLC, Facebook, Speedology Lifestyle Solutions. But I will
be here on Builder Front Boulevard the entire time. Just

(01:07:03):
walk up to GMP and ask for Tampson.

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
And you can't miss GMP because they have a gigantic
eighteen wheeler here on display.

Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
They do.

Speaker 15 (01:07:09):
They have go fast parts, they've got rims, they've got exhausts,
they have suspension, they've got customer cars. They've got a
twenty twenty two seven sixty five lt McLaren.

Speaker 16 (01:07:20):
It's one of the most gorgeous cars you'll ever see.

Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
Tamson b Roth. It has been a pleasure to meet you,
and thank you so much for joining us.

Speaker 16 (01:07:27):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
Following Beck here from the Charlotte Convention Center, the Charlotte
Auto Show, We've got another hour, one final hour sitting
in for Brett Winterbolt today. Stick around. Sound of a
powerful molder. It could be heard coming out of Kruger's Garroth.

Speaker 4 (01:07:50):
It's just.

Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
Wars go on also, and I love the way you
can put that on one upside of us.

Speaker 14 (01:07:57):
Well, from now on out, that's going to be the
story of.

Speaker 4 (01:07:59):
Our lives out with nothing.

Speaker 13 (01:08:00):
It's number one here all the way.

Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
I'm letting go over her quickly, he rode to sixteen.

Speaker 15 (01:08:16):
Yeah, what I really need is a.

Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
A a.

Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
Speed. Well, you talk about a collection of speed in
one room. That's where we are at the Charlotte Auto
Show for twenty twenty five, at the Charlotte Convention Center,
as we always say, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
Show.

Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
That's what they said to Beth and me. They said,
Beth and I, we're here, Beth and by like I said, here,
Beth is many things. She's also my grammar police and
I love her for that, and we love you for
joining us today. I know it's not Brett Winter Bowl,
but it's bow and from Good Morning BT every weekday
morning from six until ten. And our program director Mike

(01:09:06):
Schaeffer came to us earlier this week and said, Hey,
any chance you guys could fill in for Brett on
Thursday afternoon, oh by the way, at the Charlotte Auto Show.
And we said, well, yeah, anyway, but yeah, you throw
in an opportunity to be down at an event like
this that's so part of Charlotte for so many years.
We said, yeah, where do we sign?

Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
Yeah, we said hot Diggity Dog because we wanted to
come in and see everything that's available, and we wanted
to make sure that you all know about everything that's available.
And this is a fun, family friendly space. And there
are some incredible cars here, not only creative cars, like
some very unique high end you know, Lamborghini's. And there

(01:09:44):
was a what did she call it? A Dean Martin?

Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
What is it? A Steve Steve is with us.

Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
Steve is with us and Aston Martin.

Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Yeah, that I should have one of them was in
the rat pack. The other one is it is a
Carpens beautiful vehicle. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
But there are also race cars from films like Cole
Trickles car from Days of Thunder. We were just talking
about this, but if you haven't made plans for the
weekend yet, you need to make plans to come out
here with your family, with your friends, with your kids.
It's a lovely space and there are so many hands
on activities that you can be involved with.

Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Also, like taking an opportunity for some of you who
may not listen in the morning to give us a shot.
Give us a try tomorrow or sometime soon. If you
wake up in the morning, you know, Brett Winterble does
this thing here in the afternoon, and so does Pete Calender,
and so does Brett Jensen. That's what BT is in
twenty twenty five. It's a live in local radio station

(01:10:43):
from five am, starting with Nick Craig from the Carolina
Journal News Hour, followed by us, followed by Vince and
Pete and Winterble and Jensen and now of course TJ Ritchie.
So you've got so many different voices throughout the day.
We love to wake up Charlotte and get give you
all the information that you need to get from point
A to point B. That's what we say. And that

(01:11:05):
is news, that's weather, traffic, sports, politics, entertainment, business, pop culture,
sometimes whatever it needs to be. And that's why I
think you and I love doing what we do on
this show, is that every day is different.

Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
Yes, And the fun thing is we get to interact
with all of you and we love hearing from you
on the text line. Sadly, because of our setup here tonight,
we can't take phone calls, but we love that on
our show every morning, to have conversations with our listeners
and to welcome all kinds of voices and all kinds
of perspectives. Because in this world that we're in now,
the best thing that we can do is communicate with

(01:11:40):
each other and share ideas and learn how to be
better as a community and also spread some joy.

Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
So we do our show in the morning, and we
come in with plans to do a lot of different things,
and then some days, this the beauty of talk radio
and the way that WBT is set up and our
show in particular, we come in with plans to do things,
and then some days those plans get derailed in great ways,
meaning some days the callers take us in some directions

(01:12:11):
that we didn't expect earlier. This week, we got in
in the morning and thought we had a good idea
of what we were going to talk about, and then
we got a phone message or is actually an email,
that said listen, Bishop Michael Martin has just had an
audience with the Pope in Rome, Pope Leo. He's in
Rome right now. He'd love to call in and talk

(01:12:34):
to you guys about his experience. Now, we've had Michael
Martin the bishop in studio before he joined us back
in September at the Eucharistic Convention, so we know him,
but we did not expect to get a phone call
from Bishop Martin from Rome, having just had an audience

(01:12:54):
with the Pope.

Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
And one of the things that he wanted to talk
about is what a lot of Charlotte TM's have won
to talk about this week, and that is a border
patrol being here in Charlotte and the immigration issue, and
Pope Leo has spoken out about how the United States
is handling immigration, and all of the bishops came together
and released a special statement and Bishop Michael Martin said

(01:13:17):
that he wanted to, after having had an audience with
the Pope, really talk to the residents of Charlotte and really,
you know, speak honestly and openly and from the heart.

Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
So we thought we'd take this moment to revisit part
of the conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:13:33):
Bo and Peth.

Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
Great to be with you. I'm here with a group
of pilgrims from western North Carolina, from our Catholic Diocese
of Charlotte. There's about thirty eight of us, I think
here for the Holy Year, the Holy Year of Hope
twenty twenty five, and we've been on pilgrimage to many

(01:13:55):
of the holy sites here in Rome. We went up
for a day up to a seaz and we're headed
to Orviedo as Baltimore, coming back on Sunday. So glad
to be able to speak with you today. And as
you mentioned, just hot off the right out of Saint
Peter Square after you know, chilling out a little bit.
Me and Popo Leo, just hanging out together. As I

(01:14:17):
make it sound like I do it all the time,
I babbled incoherently when I spoke with him, So I'm
not quite sure this interview is going to be very helpful,
but just kidding there. But yeah, it was a excellent experience,
just very moving, and I'm glad to be able to
share a little bit, a little bit with you on
that as well as all those who are listening.

Speaker 7 (01:14:37):
Yeah, let's let's talk about that.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
What a special thing to get to have a conversation,
to get to speak with Pope Leo. What was the
what was the basic reason for having the conversation with him?

Speaker 7 (01:14:51):
And what did you all talk about?

Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
Especially given that you are from here in the Charlotte
area and we are making national and international news right now.

Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
I don't want to misrepresent my meeting with him as
if I called his secretary and God on his calendar
this is the regular what's called the Wednesday audience. Every
Wednesday morning at ten thousands of pilgrims flocked to Saint
Peter Square, and during that audience he greets them in

(01:15:24):
multiple languages, offers some prayer time as well as a
reflection on a piece of sacred scripture. And then at
the end of that, of course, he drives around into
popemobile all around the square at the beginning, and then
at the end the bishops who might be present are
able to go up and greet him and speak with

(01:15:46):
him for a few moments. So that was the extent
of my encounter. I don't want to make people think
I'm anything greater than that. Just happened to be the
right place at the right time type of thing. Yeah,
And in that moment, other than telling him how much

(01:16:06):
the people of western North Carolina are praying for him
and supportive of his ministry, I thanked him for the
messaging that he's so clearly offered on behalf of migrants
in our area who are in so much distress and
experiencing so much anxiety in these days. So that was

(01:16:27):
the nature of my communication with him, was just to
share my support, my prayers for him, to ask him
to continue to pray for us and to continue and
to thank him for the ways in which he has
been so appropriately outspoken on this topic.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
That's Bishop Michael Martin who joined us earlier this week
on Good Morning BT from Rome. And we'll hear the
conclusion of that conversation coming up, and obviously this afternoon
in the news the conclusion of Operation Charlotte's Web. When
we talked to him, that endpoint was not known. But
we still want you to hear some of that conversation

(01:17:05):
because it has been quite a week here in the
Queen City for a number of reasons and a number
of headlines. And what we try to do in the
morning is give you the lay of the land for everything,
and then as we say, you go about your day
and do what you will with that information.

Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Right, we like to say we tell you. We don't
tell you what to think, We tell you what to
think about.

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
We're driving driving a new car speed.

Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
It's a fastest com.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
Hotail around. The shouting can be someone someone be some
back at it. From the Charlotte Convention Center. It is
the Charlotte Auto Show twenty twenty five. Bow and Beth

(01:17:55):
In for Brett Winterble today. We're here for the rest
of this hour and visiting our conversation on our show
Good Morning BT earlier this week with Bishop Michael Martin
of the Charlotte Catholic Diocese.

Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
Great to be with you, Bow and Beth. Sorry I'm
not there in person, but not really sorry because I'm
kind of enjoying being over here and wrong and behind
with you.

Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
Well when you return. You are always welcome in our studio.
You know that, and we are I do. We are
so thrilled that you chose to talk with us, especially
after having an audience with Pope Leo. I wanted to
ask you about the bishop's special message that was recently released.
And Pope Leo was asked about what's going on with

(01:18:37):
immigration policy here in the US by reporters just recently,
and I'll read part of his quote. He said, we
have to look for ways of treating people humanely, treating
people with the dignity that they have. If people are
in the United States illegally, there are ways to treat that.
There are courts, there are systems of justice. No one
has said that the United States should have open borders.

(01:18:58):
I think every country has the right to determine who enters,
how and when. However, he added, when people have lived
good lives, many of them ten fifteen, twenty years, treating
them in a way that is to say the least,
extremely disrespectful and with instances of violence is troubling. Is
that the message you heard as well from the Pope

(01:19:22):
when you said he briefly addressed.

Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
This, No, that's exactly the message. And I think that
he's speaking to not just the United States, but obviously
to the world. And I would suggest at least the
folks I speak with. I think he's reiterating what most

(01:19:44):
people in our country would say. That most people understand
that the issue that's being confronted currently has been a
long brewing one, which certainly is problematic in trying to
address it now, but it will continue to be problematic

(01:20:07):
unless there's, you know, a more broad based immigration reform
in our country overall. That if just imagine had had
had a path forward for so many of these folks,
if that had been agreed upon fifteen years ago, which
I mean, this is nothing new, and both sides have

(01:20:29):
been calling for it for some time. So that's to me,
the sad reality of what you know, pop Leo is
trying to point out that, hey, you know, look at
what's look at the individual, see the individual, and say,
no one wants this, no one wants this to be
the case. How can we then pull back a little

(01:20:51):
bit thirty thousand feet and say, let's not still be
addressing this same dynamic ten years from now. Can't we
get to a preiating how to address this issue more
broadly right now? How do we do that? I think
that's the bigger call out here.

Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Bishop Michael Martin is joining us right now from Rome.
Now you were talking about zooming out, Let's zoom in
hyper local here to Charlotte. This operation Charlotte's Web that's
been going on since the weekend, and as best we
can tell, is going to go on for a few
more days. But I'm curious you've heard, and we've heard

(01:21:30):
a lot from the faith community across the spectrum here
in Charlotte, and as you're watching what's happening here in
the Queen City and now in the last twenty four hours,
it's extended to the state Capitol in Raleigh. With the
demonstrations you're seeing and the apprehensions that are going on
what's your message to your community, and what's your response

(01:21:51):
to what you see happening in Charlotte in particular.

Speaker 1 (01:21:55):
Again, I try to first see, again, this is what
you get when you get, you know, a Catholic bishop
on the air. But I see through the lens of Jesus,
and so I can't see it any other way. And
so I try and imagine how, how would Jesus be
calling me to value the human dignity of the person

(01:22:18):
that's in front of me, regardless of their citizenship status.
And so that, to me, I think is what all
people are due understanding that we live in a society
where there are laws that need to be followed in
processes that need to be carried out. At the same time,
I think the fear that has that is being created

(01:22:43):
in carrying out these policies has some very dramatic and
problematic results that I think we also have to take
out of as well. And so again, if all we
do is focus on this moment of enforcement, we will
miss the moment we should really be talking about the

(01:23:04):
broader issue of immigration reform. And because again, as I
said earlier, no one wants what's going on right now,
and I've said to our people. Don't feelify the agents.
I mean that's a byproduct of something else that's just
really not functioning. These these men and women are doing

(01:23:24):
are doing their jobs. So I don't I don't know
ify them. I just think, Hey, we're better than this.
We can all figure this immigration dynamic out in a
way that serves serves everyone, you know. I mean, think
about the number of immigrant small business owners that there
are in North Carolina right now who are wondering whether

(01:23:46):
or not they can go to work, you know, and
these are people that have been difference makers in our
society for years. Come on, we can do this. Let's
let's let's get this fixed.

Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
I think you're voice is one that's very important right now,
especially over our airwaves here in Charlotte, we get lots
of messages from listeners all across the board, especially in
the last few days, on this issue. What would you
like to say to offer some peace to the hearts
of people who feel angry, some at immigrants themselves, some

(01:24:25):
at like you were saying, some angry at agents, some
angry at the ways that immigrants are being treated. I mean,
the anger is coming at us from all different directions.
How would you offer peace and love and generosity of
spirit and like you said, the message of Jesus to
these people to help bring something to their hearts that

(01:24:46):
opens those hearts up.

Speaker 1 (01:24:49):
Yeah, that's absolutely I mean, I think you've hit a
key here to say, when we're acting, speaking, thinking out
of anger, that's red flag number one. You know that,
you know, anything that's going to come from that is
going to is destined to fail. And so I've got

(01:25:10):
to better say to myself, I can I unite myself
with other people of goodwill, regardless of their religious perspective,
regardless of their side of the aisle, and say, we've
got to challenge here, what are concrete ways in which
we can come together to address this you know, real issue.

(01:25:36):
And so acting and speaking and reacting out of anger
does no one any good. And so I would just
in that moment say to yourself, just pause, take just
take us a deep breath, and say, you know, to
your God or whomever you worship to be able to say,

(01:25:57):
is this the best version of me in this moment
of and ninety nine point nine times the answer is no.
And so that's my first call. Take a breath, and
you see yourself in communion with these other people that
you disagree with, find the common ground and start there.

Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
That's Bishop Michael Martin joining us earlier this week on
Good Morning BT. And again that was moments after an
audience with the Pope Leo calling us at that point
live from Rome. So don't get an opportunity like that
very often. We have an opportunity thirty more minutes with
you from the Charlotte Convention Center. We're here at the

(01:26:37):
Charlotte Auto Show for twenty twenty five. Bo Thompson, Beth Troutman,
sitting in today for the Great Brett Winterable. Just as
I thought, she's mined the road with explosives. No wonder
you had me put on that bat armor. Gosh, you
really think of everything, Batman. What's that.

Speaker 12 (01:27:00):
Although the bat armor protected our car, those land mines
blew our tires. Robin, turn on the automatic tire repair device.

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
We are on the home stretch from the Charlotte Convention Center.
I can't hear myself very well, Steve, Why that is
all right? There we go, Bo and Beth here from
the Charlotte Auto Show twenty twenty five. Such a great
day here in for Brett Winterble. Brett returns tomorrow, but
we are here until six o'clock today. We got the

(01:27:49):
call earlier this week, Hey, could you fill in for
Brett on Thursday? And we said, yeah, of course, and
then we found out we were going to be here
at the Charlotte Convention Center at one of the coolest
events every year and Charlotte and they've been doing it
for years and years. And just imagine you're us and
you're sitting at Radio one Row. I say Radio Row,
but it's Radio one Row because Madison from one oh

(01:28:11):
seven nine the link is beside us, and then KB
Kyle Bailey himself from WFNZ down at the end, and
yours truly in Beth Troutman from Good Morning BT every
day six to ten am, sitting on this right end,
and we're looking out and it's a I mean, it's
cars as far as the eye can see.

Speaker 3 (01:28:28):
It's a sea of shiny cars, beautiful cars. And if
you are in the market, honestly for a car, this
is one of the coolest places to be because you
can see the brand new models that are available for drivers.
I said earlier in the show that I got to
see the brand new Ford Bronco that brings in enough
nostalgia to get your heart pump in, but has enough

(01:28:48):
technology in it to make you feel like you're, you know,
living in modern times but coming out here getting to drive.
They have an EV test course that you can take
part in so you can feel what the new vehicles
feel like. I guess I just was redundant and saying
EV vehicles because I know that's what the V stands for.
But also all kinds of incredible, unique show cars that

(01:29:12):
are owned by different people from across the Charlotte area
that will really showcase the car culture here in Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
So if you're thinking about coming down here, they're open
until nine tonight, and again it's at the Charlotte Convention Center.
Senior tickets are ten dollars available on site Thursday through Sunday.
Children are free twelve and under, and then today the twentieth,
and like I said, a few more hours tonight if
you want to come out here. It's Hero Day as
they honor everyday heroes in the community, first responders, medical personnel, teachers,

(01:29:42):
active military and veterans can receive a complementary ticket at
the box office. You hear that beth Box office.

Speaker 3 (01:29:49):
At the box office, you could actually talk to a person.

Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
Got to have a valid photo ID, and active military
veterans and first responders receive free admission Thursday through Sunday
and you can check out more details at Charlotte Autoshow
dot com. But you know, we were just sort of
thinking back about the afternoon. We've been doing the show
and we've had many listeners come here during the breaks

(01:30:13):
to say hello. We just had a great family stop
here just a few minutes ago.

Speaker 3 (01:30:16):
Yes, the Fox family. Mark has called into our show before,
but he brought his adorable children, his wife with him.
They were all here for the auto show, but came
by to say hello. And honestly, we had just had
someone drop a bunch of gummy bears off at our table,
so we were able to it was almost like Halloween.
We were giving away candy, which was super fun. But
we also had Thane, one of our listeners, then come by.

(01:30:38):
Our listener Hendon, who texts us quite often, and we
had one of our seventeenth segment podcasts we named it
after him. We called it Hendon Here's a Who because
he actually wrote in a question that he wanted us
to answer on the seventeenth segment podcast, and we got
to finally put a face with a name. So we
have loved getting to meet all of you. Eugene Robinson

(01:30:59):
came by from Charlotte Today on w C and C Charlotte,
my former co host. We got to sit with him
and talk about Panthers, talk about cars. He was here
shooting a segment that you'll see tomorrow on Charlotte Today.

Speaker 4 (01:31:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:31:12):
I said to Eugene what I always say to Eugene.
Hey man, don't get any ideas. No, I'm just kidding.
Eugene is a good friend of mine too. We go
way back. I mean, Eugene's been with the Carolina Panthers
Radio Networks for so long, and you know, we were
talking to Eugene about the you know, I say, hey Day.
The Carolina Panthers had a couple of Hey Days they've
been around. Oh yeah, five can you think about it?

(01:31:34):
Four that run? Yeah, I mean the Jake Dilome era
then and Steve Smith of course, and then the Cam
Newton era. And I hear it in Eugene's voice. I
feel like we're moving in to another Heyday for the
Carolina Panthers, especially if they can win this game coming
up on Monday night in San Francisco or Santa Clara.
Technically they're at Levi's Stadium. So great to have Eugene

(01:31:56):
on the set here, just all around great guy, good
friend of the show. And we had Tamson b Roth
who joined us for a good bit of last hour,
who is the owner and CEO of Speedology Lifestyle Solutions,
and she was I mean, this is no hyperbole here.
She was like an encyclopedia for this event. She knew

(01:32:17):
every car and she knew where it was if you
didn't see it right in front of you. Because we
have a line of cars in front of us right
now that we could basically almost reach out and touch,
but then that goes all the way to the back
of the room here in this particular convention room, and
she knows about all of them. So she's one of
the great people that you'll meet when you come down here.

(01:32:37):
If you come see people here at the Charlotte Auto Show,
so many great people to help you with a Maybe
you're looking for a new car, or maybe you're just
out here to see these cool novelty cars that are
on loan from many car collectible owners around the city.

Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Yeah, it's always fun to come out and dream.

Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
Right, Yeah, well, I mean some of these cars I'll
never get any closer to than I am right now.

Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
I did.

Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
I mean, look, I've always been a Toyota guy, drive
a four Runner, and I have not been able to
see the newest fore Runner. And if four Runner is
not your your Toyota, maybe it's like the Sequoia or
maybe the the Uh what's the name of the truck
that the.

Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
Ford?

Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
The Ford.

Speaker 3 (01:33:18):
Sorry, that's the number one car in America.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
It's the only truck I know. But you can see
it from here here because it's the best because if
you walk down the middle of the room, you see
banners hanging from the ceiling and each brand. I'm looking
at Nissan closest to us, and then there's Stilantis over here,
And I said, I went back to the Toyota section.
There's an there's a Kia section.

Speaker 3 (01:33:36):
Super u is here, but they also Superaru has a
dog adoption area. They have a pen with dogs available
for adoption, so you can also come and pets.

Speaker 2 (01:33:45):
Some free friends. Yep, Dotson is big here. No Nissan
is here there they might have a doc sunned in
the Adoption PET Adoption Area Nissan formerly known as Dotson Dotson. Yeah,
But so point being is you can come down here
and whatever you're looking for, it's here, it really is.
And and the real estate at this place, I mean,

(01:34:05):
those of you who come to the convention Center for
other conventions know how big this place is. But just
imagine it's just stocked full with all kinds of cars.
And that's what you have with the Charlotte Aulto Show.
You gotta go to the auto show. Hang on, I'm
falling over. The singers need to be waked up. Actually
that's us because we've been on the air since six am.

(01:34:27):
One more segment for us here filling in for Brett
Winterable live from the Charlotte Convention Center. Come see us,
or better yet, just come see all the cars because
they're opening until nine o'clock tonight. We'll recap all the
logistics for you when you can come this weekend where
you can get more information and all that auto stuff.

(01:35:04):
Kind of the vibe right now.

Speaker 3 (01:35:05):
Yeah, we're going to be driving home soon.

Speaker 2 (01:35:09):
The end of a pretty lengthy broadcast day for us.
We started at six am. Now, this is not like
we've never done this before Election day and night and
the whole week is always a blurb oh yeah, but
this was something new for us to be on in
the morning and in the afternoon to make way or
to make it possible for Brett to be off today

(01:35:30):
because he needed to be And so they said, hey,
can you do the show from the Auto Show?

Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
And we said, heck yes, why would we not want
to do that? Bo and I had both in the
course of our careers worked at the Auto Show when
because both of us have worked in television previously, but
we had never been able to do it a radio
broadcast live from the Auto Show. So being here has
been a real treat for us.

Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
And it's been a while since I did a show
from a radio row type environment. This is a I've
been calling it Radio one row all day because we
have several of our other stations here Mix one oh
seven nine and a WFNZ. But we're here at the
long black table that's right in front of one of
the exhibits here and in front of the GMP performance

(01:36:10):
zone that Tom Blocker was telling us about a little
bit earlier. And Tamson b Roth, who was joining us
last hour but if you're thinking about coming out to
the auto show this weekend or even tonight until nine pm,
I highly recommend you do every single break In this
last hour, I think we've met WBT listeners and they
somehow they know when we're off.

Speaker 4 (01:36:30):
There are you off? Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
And they came over and we met a great family
a few minutes ago. And the guy that just walked up,
I actually it was funny. I don't know if you
realized what was going on, but there was a guy
standing behind him. And we have a listener who texts
us and tweets at us and sends us. You know
that we've seen his picture because his pictures on his
profile his name is Fox. I thought it was Fox,

(01:36:53):
and so I went hey Fox, and he looked at
me like, no, it's Tom.

Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
Briefly saw that moment happen because I was having a
conversation with another listener, and so then I tried not
to draw any more attention to it.

Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
Yeah, and I've gotten that a lot today. Say hey Brett, No,
it's Bo. No. I get why you would thank you
it's Brett because winterable and afternoon drive. But he's off today.
We're filling in Bo and Beth from the morning show.

Speaker 3 (01:37:21):
And we just got a beautiful text on our WBT
text line seven oh four five seven eleven ten from Jenny.

Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Jenny says, Hey, this is Jenny who.

Speaker 3 (01:37:28):
Sent the video of her three year old nephew saying
what the.

Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
HG double hockey stick?

Speaker 3 (01:37:34):
She said, I listened to you guys religiously and heard
you say this morning that you were going to be
at the auto show. However, I just got in my car,
turned on the radio and heard you both talking, and
I had to reset myself because it's dark when I
leave home in the morning and dark on the way home.
I was completely confused as if it were morning and
not night. I had to sit in my car for
a minute and collect myself.

Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Well, you and I come on with Winterble once a week.
Every other week. You're on one week, I'm on the
next week, and that's on Tuesday afternoons at four fifty
and a couple of weeks ago you were on with them,
but you were on at like five twenty five twenty.
It was election day and I was coming out the
door and I heard you on, and I went, wait
a minute, what the heck is going on? It's not
four fifty you start your clock with wrong. Yeah, yeah,

(01:38:16):
and you too at a Jenny moment. Well, you know, people,
I get it people, And I used to do this
when I was a listener to BT growing up. You know,
people have their routine routines, and for a lot of us,
a lot of people out there wear alarm clocks. For
some people they sort of don't need to look at
a clock because they can listen to us and know
what time of day it is. And you know, we

(01:38:37):
here's the bottom line of all of that. Anybody that
uses us for anything, we appreciate it. We don't take
it for granted. It's a privilege to be talking to
you for four hours in the morning, and then every
once in a while we get to do something like
this where yeah, we're going to be tired at the
end of the day, but to be able to talk
to Brett Winterble's audience this afternoon and say, hey, you know,

(01:38:57):
check us out in the morning sometime if you don't already,
because we've got a lot of great programming going on
at this one hundred and three year old radio station.

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
And we certainly appreciate the fact that we that you
all let us interrupt your routine and be here for
Brett Winterable today because we certainly, like Bo was saying,
do not take it for granted at all.

Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
I want to make sure that we recognize many of
the people that helped make this program possible. And back
at the studio, it's Nick lazor Check. You can't believe
I just said it right, because I like to say
Lazier check. So Nick's been back at the board. Thank
you Nick for all your assistance. Thanks to Pam and
of course Anna Ericsson back at the station, and even

(01:39:39):
Zob doing some sports this afternoon. And the one and
only Sir Stephen of Anthony, Steve Anthony, who's been out
here with us, one of our great producers from the
morning show, and gosh, what we have done without him today,
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
He's quite the producer and quite the caretaker.

Speaker 2 (01:39:54):
Good latemorrow, Good latemorrow. That's the best I got for you.
It's too late in the day for me. Thank you
to Steve, and thanks to all of you, and Brett
Winterble thanks for letting us, you know, have the keys
to the car for the afternoon.

Speaker 3 (01:40:09):
Oh way to drive it home.

Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
Bo, Let me pretend I'm Pete Calender. Did we break
anything while he was gone? No, I hope not. I
guess the listeners will be a judging.

Speaker 4 (01:40:18):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
We are back tomorrow six am, bright and early for
the Friday edition of Good Morning BT. Good Talk Beth
Good tappo
