Brett was on the ground at the hearing, where he witnessed powerful testimonies from victims' families and law enforcement. One of the most gripping moments came from Mr. Federico, the father of a young woman murdered in South Carolina, who passionately confronted a congresswoman after she misidentified his daughter. Brett also shared the story of a Charlotte officer who lost his foot in the April 27 shooting and spoke out about the failures of the justice system, especially with criminals being released before paperwork is even complete. He highlighted the disconnect between activists claiming the city is safe and the lived experiences of citizens and officers

to be with you, Happy to welcome to the program.
Breaking Brett Jensen joining us here. He was there at
the hearings or earlier today. Break this down for the audience.
I know that you were studying this very closely. How
did this thing go off there, Brett?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
You know, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
You know, You've got all these congressmen up there, and
a couple of congresswomen, three congresswomen, and the rest congressmen.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
And I think there were like maybe sixteen of them.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Then you had about five or six people that were
going to speak as witnesses.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
And before that could even happen, the.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Congress lady from Wake County and she gets up there
and she misidentifies Irena.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Zaruska, the father of the woman.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
The young daughter, a blonde just a few months ago
from the Shaw area. She goes to visit Columbia, her
friends in Columbia, the University of South Carolina. While there,
a man breaks into the house, forces her naked on
her knees, puts a shotgun under into a rib cage

and pulls the trigger while she's begging for her life,
and all he wanted was debit cards and credit cards.
And the guy had been arrested thirty nine times and
twenty and been charged with twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Felonies, and he was walking the streets.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Disgusting absolutely and should have been put down like a dog.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
That is disgusting, right exactly. So he was there to
speak about his daughter.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
He was extremely passionate, Federico, mister federicop So the problem
is he had a big picture of his beautiful daughter.
And the congress lady miss iedified her as Arena Zerutsko,
and he cut her off. Well, hearing had not, but
hearing had been going on for ten minutes and they're

just giving opening speeches, and he cut her off and
actually said.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
How dare you? And this is a very large man, like.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
He's six' five six,' four, six', five you know built,
like a linebacker and has a, very very, big booming
voice and he's, pounding the table? How dare you and
he's yelling, at The congresswoman the democrat Lady Out of
wake County, up in raleigh and he's, yelling at her
how dare you not know? Who she is and you're

(02:40):
at this hearing how and he's yelling at her and
this is what.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
And she, Just kept saying, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry, and he's like you will, remember her
name you will.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Remember this moment and he's in he's obviously extremely passionate
because this is only like, four months old this murder
is only.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Four months old.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
And so so that set the tone and then.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
It, was from, there you know a lot. Of heartbreaking.
STORIES the gentleman i did not realize. This until today one.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Of the officers we All remember the april twenty seventh
shooting a year and, a half ago wherefore law enforcement
officers Died. Here in charlotte well he, was also, injured
you know because many others were shot but, not you
know did. Not pass thankfully well, he WAS injured and
i did. Not know this had, his foot amputated so
he was there in A wheelchair and i did not

(03:33):
realize one of the officers had his foot have their
foot amputated as a.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Result of that and he gets up there.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
And he starts talking about how we just don't understand a,
lot of times me and all, my fellow officers, we sit,
there we go what's the point they're literally let back
on the street before.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
We can even.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Finish the paperwork the magistrate or the judges. Let them
out they're back out, on the.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Street either with cashless bail or a very low bail that's.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Easy to do we're filling out the paperwork and they're
already back out. Of the street and there were these
Two very hardcore democrats sitting, next to me older people
that were protesters earlier, in the Morning Talking About new
King's day and charlotte is safe and there's a big
mass protest outside. The federal courthouse one of the older
people looks to, me and says because, they, were LIKE oh, That's,

i said.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
No it is talk.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
To any officer they will tell you that criminals are
often let back on the street before they're done. With
the paperwork and, the Response, was as god is. My
witness friminable, the, response was well maybe they.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Need less, paperwork.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Well listen that's what they're going to say because, They're
pro criminal and. That's the issue we have a very
large constituency of people who, are pro criminal that want
criminals walking. On the streets maybe they're benefiting from it in,
some Particular way but i'll. Tell you this the average
regular person who's who's in the sound of our, voice
right now they don't want they don't want criminals. In

their neighborhood they want people coming through the window in
the middle. Of the night they don't want to see
their families destroyed because somebody wants to steal a some
kind of a card or. Whatever it is And and
the american people. Have had it and if they if
they want to stand there with, their no, kings you
know signs or, whatever it is, you.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Know what that's. That's their prerogative.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
God bless, Them let them let them do what they,
want to do but just stay out of the way
when it comes to actually.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Enforcing, the, law well right and there were a, lot
Of Them and alma.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Adams was, there.

How how how how how did? She comport herself uh?

In this hearing.

She she started talking about politics and Started Going after
donald trump and some, of the things, and, then said
basically crimes, not that, bad.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
You know it's it's it's it's lower, than it, was you.
Know Last year and charlotte, and the, girl you know
the girl died. In Her district arina zariska.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Did she Did She. Did alma adams did she? Attend
the memorial? Uh last week no.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
She, DID not oh i wonder why.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
SHE did not i guess she was. She, did not, Yeah,
maybe busy.

Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
You know yeah and but, Here's THE thing and i
was telling. PEOPLE this, afterwards, i said yeah they're, saying that,
crime you know, murders are, down you know a major Percentage.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
HERE in, charlotte i, SAID.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Problem, was i said those crime stats Are. ONLY through,
june i said in the, last three months we've damn
near had thirty murders just in the.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
LAST three, months i, said.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
You know maybe like around twenty twenty five murders just
in the. LAST three, Months i said so those crime
stats are completely irrelevant ye.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
From because they Only. Go.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Through june, Insane all right so you're going to be,
covering this tonight, right.
