Tune in here to this Wednesday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show!

Brett kicks off the program by talking about the breaking news of Charlie Kirk being shot at an event at Utah Valley University and the uncertainty surrounding his condition. He describes the scene, referencing video footage showing the moment Kirk may have been hit while speaking under a canopy. Brett emphasizes the real-time nature of the situation, noting widespread media coverage and reactions from figures like President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, who have called for prayers. He reflects on his personal experiences with Kirk, calling him a decent and thoughtful communicator, and draws comparisons to the recent Butler rally shooting involving Trump.

We're joined by Macy and Christina from Liberty Mountain Drama to talk about the upcoming production of Liberty Mountain and its powerful educational impact on students. Brett kicks off the conversation by expressing his excitement for the show, which brings history to life right in the place it happened — Kings Mountain.

Macy and Christina explain how the production transforms textbook history into a vivid, immersive experience for students, featuring real historical figures, dramatic storytelling, and interactive performances. The newly renovated theater enhances the experience, while school matinees offer a valuable curriculum-aligned field trip opportunity. They also highlight the importance of showcasing underrepresented stories, including women and African Americans from the Revolutionary era. With actors entering from all directions and a live-action atmosphere, the show captivates students and sparks meaningful questions during post-show Q&As. Speaker 1 (00:21):
News Talk eleven nine three WBT. It's the Brett winerbul Show.
So Charlie Kirk was shot during an event in Utah
just minutes ago and conservative political Charlie Kirk shot at

(00:43):
Utah Valley University at an event that he was doing.
He was doing one of those things where he's underneath
one of those like easy ups, and he's addressing the crowd,
the people who were there. He's he's doing all that
sort of stuff. We don't know what his condition is. Pete,
Pete and I were looking at this there there's video

(01:05):
of him being hit. I don't know if that's a
contemporary shot right there or if that's just something from before,
but it looks like they made contact with him, and
so the suspect is in custody. This is an open

(01:26):
I would say it's like a football it's like a
football field or or a wide open space. And he
was he was underneath the easy up and I guess
he was going back and forth and talking back and
forth and all that sort of stuff. And when you
see the when you see the images there, it does

(01:46):
look like, at least from the angle we saw, it
looks like he took a he took a hit. We
don't know, we don't know what this looks like or
what this is going to be. But we're monitoring all
of this all the way around. President Trump has come
out and said, we must all pray for Charlie Kirk.

(02:07):
We got CNN is covering this. We've got we've got
CBS is covering this. Every every one of these things
is is kind of like rotating through. You did see
in the moment of that at that time, you saw
people running. They went running from from that position. And again,

(02:28):
we have no idea his condition. H Vice President Vance says,
you know, we should be praying for him. This is
this is very much a real time, uh situation that
we're looking at. And I got to tell you it's
it's it's a frightening it's a frightening reality here because

(02:51):
in all the times that I have been around Charlie Kirk,
I've been I've been at sea pack, I've been at
different events, I've been at different gatherings, things like that.
He's an incredibly decent person when it comes to having
a conversation. What happens in so many cases is you

(03:13):
have people who are who are folks who do things,
and they do him in a nasty way. He is
somebody that I think is really phenomenal in terms of
his ability to have a conversation on some very important
issues and not He's not Morton Downey Junior for a

(03:39):
period of time in another world, right, he is a
he's a nice person. He's a good person. They are
you know, they have conversations and he goes back and forth.
And I'm telling you, the thing that is striking me
right now, the thing that is that is affecting me
right now looking at at all of this sort of
stuff of is how similar this setup is to Butler

(04:08):
where we saw what happened with President Trump and we
saw how he was wounded. But this looks a whole lot,
a whole lot worse is And I don't want to
try to compare because I'm looking at a number of
videos here at the same time, and we do not

(04:32):
know what has happened, what his condition is, where he is,
any of that. This all occurred just in these last
moments at Utah Valley University. Again, his condition is not known.
And let's see what else we've got here. Yeah, We're
We're just going to keep on monitoring this. Look, if

(04:53):
you want to weigh in on this, if you want
to talk about this, this is something that I look,
it's difficult because people are picking up their kids at
school and all this sort of stuff. And he is
somebody who is very omnipresent on television on his own shows,
on the things that he does. And we certainly, we

(05:14):
certainly would be right to pray, to pray and make
sure that this man who has a young family, a
wonderful family, that he will have either dodged it, he
will have had a vest on maybe or what have you. Again,
I'm looking at everything that everybody else is looking at

(05:35):
here right now as well. Jason Chafitz was giving an
eyewitness a view there for a moment here over on Fox.
But the question for you and if you want to
weigh in on the WBT text line driven by Liberty
Buick GMC, or you want to jump in on the
phones seven oh four five seven zero eleven ten. Later

(05:56):
on in the program will be joined by coach Matt Doherty.
We've got some great people who are going to be
joining us at the bottom of the h of of
this next hour talking about Liberty Mountain, and at this
stage of the game. We are we are just trying
to find out what is what is happening here as

(06:17):
he was just doing an event, interacting with the audience.
He wasn't he was sitting back in a relaxed way,
wearing a white T shirt. It looks like to me,
and and he was just kind of talking to folks
and people were We're challenging him and talking to him
and asking questions and all this sort of stuff. And
the thing about this that's that's important, uh, is is

(06:39):
we we don't know if there was a precipitating event,
if something else happened. To me, it looks like, uh,
this was a person. I didn't see the person, but
it looks like from the angle that you see it,
it looks like it was coming from up, uh, in
a downward sort of a way. And again, this is

(07:00):
this is something that is absolutely shocking. We hate to
see this sort of stuff and unfortunately, the caustic nature,
the caustic nature of the politics of the day, it
is a it is a very very sad thing to
see this happening, especially for his family and especially for

(07:20):
people who wanted to come in have a dialogue, have
a discussion and all this sort of stuff. But again,
we are watching this, uh this storyline, and we will
effort what we can in addition to to anything else
that we're going to be looking at as well. News

(07:42):
Talk eleven ten nine nine three WBT, it's the Brett
Water Bowl Show. You're just joining us in these last
uh what five minutes or so. We we got word
that and we saw video that Charlie Kirk had been wounded,
had been shot at an event in Utah, and we

(08:03):
don't know what has happened, what his condition is. Police
are probing, and I guess there is a suspect in
custody that has been taken into custody. I'm going to
bring on my producer, Isaac. Isaac, you are somebody who

(08:24):
follows Charlie Kirk, You're familiar with the stuff that he does,
and I just want to get your reaction. Obviously a
shocking attack on him, but what he represents for a
particular generation freedom. He stands for freedom.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
He stands for freedom of speech to have your own opinion,
even whenever it's not you know, the societally acceptable, it's
politically correct position. As someone who spent a couple of years,
you know at a liberal arts college, at a university.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
It's real.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
What he's saying is real that people hate the conservative
view on these campuses. And he's somebody who goes on
to these campuses and invites debate and invites an open discussion.
And that's what it's about. That's what we've lost, and
that's what we need more of. We need more open discussion,
open debate, Let the best ideas win, Let the free

(09:22):
market work. And that's what the man stands for. And
I'm in shock, I'm sad, I'm praying. Yeah, it's a
terrible situation.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
It really is. And you know, one of the things
that's so hugely important about this, one of the things
that's hugely important is it's the fact that you don't
never really see him screaming at anybody. He will have
hostile people come up to him and he will just
be matter of fact and have a conversation. And I
think that's probably the best way to plan succeed because

(09:56):
you're gonna walk away, but you're gonna be thinking about
what he said, and you're gonna be like, you know what,
maybe he right, or maybe this is wrong or whatever.
That's the thing. It's not a yelling and screaming. It's
not a beating people up. It's it's a it's a discussion.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Absolutely, and once you raise your voice, you've lost the
argument and the you know, the discussion ceases. Whenever everyone's
just yelling at each other. He doesn't go there. He
keeps it fact based, as a matter of fact, yep,
and logically.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Debates these issues. And you know, I think that's another thing.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
If it's not necessarily the person he's he's debating, but
everyone else gets to hear that when these arguments are challenged,
they get loud and they fall apart, and he is
able to just sit there and calmly and matter of
factly go through their you know, whatever it may be,
their position, their argument, and uh and just have a
conversation with him.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Right.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
And you know the thing when you think about this,
as we see him kind of greeting the crowd, these
crowds love him. I mean he's a rock star, right,
I mean he is. That is who this guy is
number one and number two, he's he's willing to be
among the people. He could he could be. He could
put himself in like one little room and you got

(11:07):
thirty people that come in and hear from you. But this,
this all, all this sort of stuff is you're he speaks,
He speaks, I guess, speaks truth to power.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
He is he's a man of the people. He's amongst
them every day. And I mean, you don't have to pay,
you don't have to get a ticket. You just walk up,
get in line, and then you can have your opinions heard.
You can walk up to the mic and have the
discussion with him.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yeah, and that and that's the thing that's so important.
There's a bravery there. But and I don't want to
put too fine of a point on it. He's also
a man of faith and he believes what he believes.
He believes that there's a better life, you know, moving forward.
He's optimistic, he's he's in many ways. I see things

(11:50):
from him that mirror a lot of what Rush was
doing and all that sort of stuff. So, you know,
this is this is the uh, this is the the
challenge that we're going to be looking at. And this
is what we are looking at. This was This took
place by the way, at at at a college in

(12:11):
uh Utah, and so he was he was sitting behind
he was sitting under an easy up. Just a table,
a table and some some bunting right in front of it,
and he was he was going back and forth. He
had a microphone in his hand, and he was going
back and forth on the issues and talking about the
different things and and as it should be. Colleges and

(12:35):
universities are supposed to be places where you can explore ideas,
and you know what ends up happening. Here's here's the
funny thing about about all of this. The funny thing
is sometimes people actually change their mind. They go you
know what, I didn't think about it from that perspective.

(12:55):
I didn't realize that that that that's what happened. I
didn't under stand that necessarily. And you know, there are
people who get revved up. There are people who get
very emotional, there are people who get maybe threatening in
some ways. And the fact of the matter is that
this is this is a this is no matter how

(13:19):
this goes, and we're praying for him to recover, but
no matter how this goes, this is a this is
a mark on the the conciliation and the discussions and
the things. This is this is a very sad day.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
This is a.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Week of very sad time because this man was shot,
and because at the same time we have been mourning
the death on the cat's rail, and so you know,
I'm certainly willing to have conversations if you want to
jump in and have your say seven four five seven

(14:02):
oh eleven ten seven oh four five seven zero eleven ten,
to have your to have your conversation, to have your say.
We are monitoring all of this as I look at
every one of these feeds. Uh, conservative political this is
this is a CBS conservative political activist Charlie Kirk shot
at Utah Valley University event, condition unknown, CNN saying university

(14:27):
suspect in Charlie Kirk shooting is in custody. Over on
ABC sources suspect suspect in custody after conservative activist Charlie
Kirk at Utah University, and then of course over on
Fox News Kirk shooting suspect in custody. At some point

(14:52):
we'll we'll find out all that happened, how this happened.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
But but for the for the life of me looking
at the picture and looking at what's happening here, because
we have to understand that there's a way, there's a
way to debate and discuss, and there's a way to
try to destroy that. And that's that's the sin here, okay,
because you've picked up a weapon and tried to advance

(15:19):
your argument by jamming it at somebody, and that is
not the right way. That is that is the worst
possible thing. It is the most Unamerican thing that we
can possibly possibly do, and that is a shame. Aeries

(16:00):
full up fantasies. News Talk eleven ten, nine nine three WBT.
We're continuing to watch the the shooting of Charlie Kirk,
who had been shot. Can you pick up by any
chance on Isaac, can you pick up this tp U
s a feed that's coming up on Fox because these

(16:23):
are people who are are sort of talking about what
they saw here. Uh, okay, we're trying to effort as
much information as we possibly can. We we don't have
any information in terms of his condition, but we're looking
at folks who are who are who are talking about
how this happened, how this occurred, all this sort of stuff.
I have to believe that folks are are absolutely irate

(16:48):
at this stage of the game. Let's let's pull this
feed from Fox.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Please their agenda, right, So I don't know.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
I hope, I hope it I'll like gets figured out,
and I really don't I really don't want this to
happen again.

Speaker 6 (17:09):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I just I
from what I heard, it was it was a sniper
from from a long ways away, So I don't know.
I think the focus of this should probably be on
probably some sort of some sort of gun control or
something like that so that things like this can't happen again.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Any Thank you guys so much.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Yeah, these are these are These are college folks, college
kids and folks who are who are looking at this
situation again, if you're just joining us, Charlie Kirk was
shot at about twelve ten twelve ten, which would be
mountain time because that's over in Utah, so about two

(17:53):
ten or so this this took place. There is suspecting custody,
but we don't know what the what the purpose was,
what the mission was, what they were trying to do,
or any of that sort of stuff. And certainly we
have to focus our attention on on Charlie Kirk and
and the reality that we're we're now living in, which
is a very very dangerous thing. And when we kind

(18:18):
of look at this. I just want to say something,
and I want I want to go on the record
with this saying this because it's important. They they can
go after people, but ideas will not fade away, no
matter what, no matter what. I've been vociferous about the

(18:47):
idea of saying we don't settle issues of political disagreements
with violence. We don't. That's not what we are supposed
to do. And I think there are plenty of people,
there are plenty of people who think that this is

(19:07):
a gotcha kind of game, like a single shooter video
game or whatever that is. And unfortunately this has got
a real impact on people. This man has a family
and he was shot today and we don't know the motivation,

(19:31):
but we do know this. This man was shot today
at a college campus having a conversation. That is the
thing that is so shocking and so awful and so ugly,
because a debate, a discussion, those are words. When you

(19:56):
bring in weaponry and you shoot some one like Charlie Kirk,
how does that advance the argument? It doesn't. It absolutely
does not. This is the problem, the foundational problem that

(20:18):
we have is the idea that you can go and
shoot somebody at an event. You can go and try
to ride the cats and you get stabbed in the neck.
We have people walking around who shouldn't be involved in

(20:40):
politics if they cannot control themselves. I'm telling you right now,
this is unbelievably shocking in so many ways. This is
unbelievably shocking to see this. And as I look at

(21:07):
ABC News sources suspect and custody after conservative activist Charlie
Kirk shot at Utah Valley University. So we we don't
have any information. We don't have any information. God, God,
God help us all we we don't we don't have

(21:28):
any information.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
Is this?

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Is this the alleged potential person who did this? Is
is that what they're saying? Wow? All right, that's that's
not the That's not a person that I would have
expected to be the case. But but they come in
all all styles. I guess that that I'm gonna I'm

(21:53):
gonna tell you. I think if that's the person that
did it, I think that person's a stalker. I think
he this person was stalking this person for a period
of time. But we don't know. We we just we
just do not know. And I'm not going to point
out who this was, how they did it, whatever it is,

(22:14):
This is a This is a very dangerous time and
we have got the only thing we can do is pray,
and unfortunately, unfortunately the world is changing, Our nation is
changing for all the wrong reasons, for all the wrong reasons.

(22:40):
News Talk eleven ten, not nine to three WBT seven
O four five seven zero eleven ten. It's uh, we're
still looking at the storyline here. Sources say the suspect
is in custody. That that much we know already, And certainly,
if you've liked to, if you'd like to have your
your thoughts are we would certainly appreciate your your thoughts

(23:03):
on how it is. You're you're, you're, you're processing this
sort of stuff, and you know, it's it's unfortunate because
we're making our circles tighter and tighter, if you think
about this, we're making our circles less and less available
to people who have different opinions. And unfortunately, I think

(23:26):
that's not a hell. I think that's definitely not a
healthy approach in any way, shape or form. Should never
be that way. We should always be open to a
new idea or or a different sort of a take
or any of that sort of stuff. We should always, always,
always be that person who's willing to kind of exchange ideas.

(23:51):
One of the things that I can guarantee it up
and down the line here, okay, at this station, up
and down the line. When people call in and disagree,
and as long as they're not cursing or doing anything
that's that's horrible. We love the back and the forth.
We love the back and forth, We love the conversation.

(24:12):
We want that. That's that's the most important stuff that
you can have, is a meeting. Maybe you're not meeting
of the minds, but you're you're you're listening, and you're
looking and you're checking in with all this sort of stuff.
I mean, it's it's really it's really incredible. And this
is a guy who, I mean, I'm not gonna lie,

(24:35):
this is a guy who, like I I used to
kind of be like, eh, I don't know, I know
what I believe, I know what I want to do,
I know all this sort of stuff. But you can
learn from everybody, you know, you can you could, you
can learn from from every single person you know. That's
that's uh, that's one of the problems you know that's

(24:57):
that is a that that's an issue you that we're
dealing with. This is a bill, bill reaching out to us. Hey, Brett,
this is beyond political differences. It's truly spiritual warfare. And
I'm sure you realize that bill. Yeah, absolutely, of course
it is. Of course it is the devil wants chaos, man,

(25:19):
I mean one hundred percent. This coming in from anonymous
there's no name attached to it. Prayers for Charlie Kirk.
Please do not take the gas off of Charlotte's mayor
and city council. They needed media coverage, diversion. Don't stop
the pressure and thanks WBT. No, of course not. But
this is a this is a breaking news story where

(25:41):
we have somebody who is a very high profile person
that this is not going to take uh take take
you know, anything off of what happened with Arena and
all that. I mean, there's just absolutely no way that
that's going to happen. But it is important to prioritize
and to look at these different stories. The Situation Room
at the White House is monitoring what what it is

(26:04):
that happened here. Uh, They're they're looking at this again.
This this is the the shame of all of this. Obviously,
the being shot is is an atrocious thing. But what's
going to happen is this is going to this is

(26:24):
this is this is going to create a siloing of
people who don't need to be siloed. We need to
be having conversations. And again I think that's that's one
of the after after he recovers, let's hope he does this.
This is this is an important, important thing to UH
to think about. Here he was shot from a campus

(26:46):
building two hundred yards away. There's a guy up there
in oorum Utah who is just talking to a reporter
who says there was a direct shot on Charlie. Kirk
Stan says it should be pretty obvious by now that
a promotion of DEI and social justice policies by the

(27:08):
powers that be and then the soft on crime treatment
the same individuals get the same justice system has essentially
created and on the street army by Democrats to intimidate
and force people who are conservative for individual liberties and
our constitution into silence. You can have those views, but

(27:31):
just leave them at home. I think there are people
who definitely say that, Okay, there are people who definitely
say that We've got other people who are trying to
identify who this person was and what their motivation was.
We are looking at this at the in real time. Hey, Brett,
not sure if you've seen this, but the wonderful organization

(27:52):
called BLM just put out a statement these people are
mental ill. I have not seen that. We've been doing
coverage on this particular story as as well, but certainly
you know, curious to see what what what will come
to pass here?

Speaker 7 (28:06):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
The amount of heat that is swirling a uh, swirling
a young people middle age and older that don't have
a grasp on reality and can't handle a debate or
get talked to, get talked down to, is absurd because

(28:27):
people don't want to hear the truth. This is Aaron.
They have such a focus on what they believe and
what they believe is true and carved in the stone,
and it is not. And this is a shame because
I follow him and I love his rebuttals and people.
This has got to stop. We have to get right.

(28:48):
We need to get people to stand up for our nation.
And and he closes it out with with I will
be damned for what my father fought for doing the
right thing. God country, family does not go in vain.
That message was from a k a Ron. Police say

(29:13):
at least two students shot at Denver Area High school.
That is that the other story that's moving right now
as well. So we've got we've got this happening in
addition to this, and we're about ready for We're going
to be joined by the coach Matt Doherty coming up
at the top of this next hour. We've been trying to,
you know, effort as much information as we can. We

(29:35):
don't want to put out information that that may or
may not be true. That's why we're acting with an
abundance of caution. But this breaking story coming in on CNN.
Police say at least two students shot at a Denver
area high school. Students are being transported to a nearby hospital.
This is this is someday. Say a prayer, Say a

(29:57):
prayer for your country, Say a pre for Charlie Kirk.
Whether you agree with him or not. Nobody should lose
their life because of an opinion. Say a prayer. This
is my recital. I think it's very vital. That's right

(30:19):
on Top News Talk eleven ten nine three WBT is
the Brett Winterbull Show. And I'm really happy to welcome
to the program a guy who I who I just
love talking to, and it's coach Matt Doherty joining us
under less than great circumstances. Uh, Coach, your your thoughts

(30:41):
on this day as uh as we see that Charlie
Kirk has been shot in uh at a at an
event in Utah. What what's going through your mind today, sir.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
Oh Man, There's a lot going through my mind, Brett.
I'm no nauseous, sickened, praying for him, his wife, two
young kids. You know, our country where you know, there's
just so much going through my mind. You know, Charlie Smart,

(31:18):
I'm a fan of his. Uh, he's a truth teller,
a lot of wisdom, you know.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
I think it was NBA and MSNBC.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
Ms NBC called him divisive, and uh, you know, when
you look at his crowds, they didn't look divisive to me. Uh,
they look curious. And you know you see black, white
liberal conservative surrounding his tents and trying to challenge him,

(31:52):
you know, and that's kind of what he wanted to thought.
And I thought the exchanges were great and was respectful,
you know, and that's what we need more of and
I think, uh, this person who shot him obviously didn't
like the truths that Kirk was spewing over the last

(32:17):
you know, several years. He's a rising rising star to
me on the conservative side and someone that I could
see being the president, you know, someday, because there's no
he's brilliant. I mean there's no topic that he can't touch.
I mean that once, uh being you know in the

(32:40):
in the in the under you know, the tent, and
you know, these students challenge him. And someone challenged him,
I don't know if asked him like Lebron or Michael
you know, and here's a guy who's political you know, pundit,
and he went off on why Michael Jordan's you know,
was the goat compared to Lebron James and with like

(33:00):
really good facts and and that solidified for me, right
there is that I'm a Charlie Kirk fan. But Don'm kidding,
you know, and the broader, broader picture, like you know,
the state of our country, right, you know, this is
not an isolated incident. President Trump had two attempts on

(33:23):
his life, one almost successful, the other one was aborted
before or or or diffused before you know, somebody took
a shot at him. And you know, people say a
couple of things. You know, I read this quote some

(33:44):
recently something that said guns don't kill people. People kill people,
and and I think that's very well said. So that
some of these people are really troubled and they shouldn't
be having guns, They should not handle them guns. You know,
I met with somebody last last week who grew up

(34:05):
in Alaska. She said, you know, there's eight eight eight
eight year old. We would carry guns to school, sure,
and we put put them in our lockers like the
back of the classroom. You never knew, you know, as
we went to school, would we face a bear or
something like that. We had to have guns at a
very early age. So it's the people, it's the education,

(34:28):
and it's the sanity. And then the other thing I
thought of was Jasmine Crocker of Texas quote, law enforcement's
role is only to solve crime, not prevented.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
Yes, she did say that how ignorant is that it's crazy?

Speaker 4 (34:49):
And so you know, if if these were shots on
the Democratic people, to shots attempts assassination attents of some
Democrats or left people on the left, you know, this

(35:11):
world would come unhinged. But you know, it's like the
crime committed in Charlotte, sure, oh oh yeah, Arena Zurutchka,
you know from Ukraine. You know that didn't make national
news to just like yesterday, two days ago. Yeah, and

(35:33):
that thing happened what ten days ago at least?

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Yeah, it did. And one of the things when we
look at at this sort of trail of misery that
has happened here in this regard, you know, tomorrow's the
twenty fourth end anniversary. I hits an anniversary. It's a twenty
fourth commemoration of of September the eleventh, and we remember

(35:57):
distinctly what happened there. And I'm I'm gonna be due
for a break here in about a minute and a
half or so. But here's what I wanted to kind
of prime the pump with. And it's this we we
went along with all the rules and taking off the
shoes at the airport and not bringing in bottles of
water and all this kind of stuff. What I fear

(36:19):
is we get more and more people getting afraid to
express their opinions, and there's a chilling effect their coach
where we say, well, I don't want to go to
a speech because this could happen. This could happen, and
the bad guys in the world or the devil, however

(36:43):
you want to look at it. That's exactly what they want.
They want us to be fearful. Coach that has to
be afraid. I'll give you, I'll give you a minute
and a half for here on this.

Speaker 4 (36:52):
What do you what do you think that that's you know,
that's I had the pleasure of playing golf with uh
George Bush in Dallas when I was coaching s m U.
And uh, you know the Bush Library is there on
the campus. And uh, you know he talked about terrorism,
you know, like that that that is what terrorism. They

(37:13):
want to create terrors. So we are afraid. And that's
when Americans sometimes show throw best. Right, We're not afraid.
We are going to show up. And that's that's why
he went to Yankee Stadium threw out the first pitch
and he told me that story. He said, you know,

(37:34):
I had a flat jacket on. I was warming up,
you know, under the dugout and with a flat jacket,
and and he's got a good sense of humor and
he said, uh. And then Jeter comes up to me
in the Dougout says, so, uh, you're gonna throw from
the rubber?

Speaker 7 (37:55):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (37:55):
And yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's yeah, I'm gonna
throw from he said, don't don't bounce it in there.
I'll fool you, he said, because I asked him, I said,
what were you the most nerves as a president of
the United States? And he stated, throwing out the first
pitch at Yankee Stadium. I think for a lot of things.

(38:17):
I'm crazy and they're going to shoot him and two right,
and't want to bounce it from the rubber.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
He was probably more afraid of the rubber than he
was afraid of getting you know, can you hang on
for me, man, Sure of course, all right, because I
do want to. I want to get your thoughts on
a couple other things as well. Uh, stick around. This
is the coach Matt Doherty. By the way, where do
they go to get coach Coach.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
Dherty coaching dot com. That's d O H E R
T Y Coaching dot com.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
News Talk eleven ten ninety nine three WBT, It's Steve
Brett Winerbule Show seven O four five seven zero eleven ten.
Continuing to have a conversation with coach Matt Doherty, it's
great to have you back, coach. Uh, let me let
me ask you something.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
I know.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
I know this is going to sound like it's a
petty it's a petty comment. But the question I have
for you is, it feels like people don't want to
talk to each other in a civilized kind of way
by and large, especially on college campuses. What would be
what would be advice that you would give younger people

(39:29):
to continue to engage even if it's sometimes you know,
uncomfortable or or something like that, because you're you're you're
somebody who understands that the skill of communication and building
bridges instead of blowing them up.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Yeah, it's a talent like communication is a practice, right,
you have to practice. You if you if you take
two weeks off, you might be out of the rhythm
when you come back, right, And so leadership's a practice. U.
I talk a lot that in leadership. A large part

(40:04):
of your job is crucial conversations. What do I mean
by that? Well, you've got to hold people accountable. How
do you do that? Especially to a younger generation that
is not like us where you had to just take
it right now? They don't like the way they're being
talked to, or you hurt my feelings or things like that. Right, So,

(40:26):
how do you have crucial conversations with each other, especially
younger generation, because most of them want to communicate through text,
direct message, Instagram.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
And the light.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
And when you do that, you generally lose the most
important part of communication, which is body language. You're generally
not in the same room. And then you also lose
tone unless you're using explainage, explanation, Marx and emojis things

(41:00):
like that. But still, so there's such a gap because
now you're losing eighty five percent of communication when you're
not doing it in person. And when people are hiding
behind iPads, laptops, cell phones, they become fake tough guys, right,
and all of a sudden you see them in person

(41:21):
and you're like, hey, man, I don't really like what
you wrote. Oh I'm sorry. I mean that you're tell
the wrong way, you know, or somebody hated my account. Right,
But nobody's a real tough guy when you are face
to face. So when you're face to face, you can
have these crucial conversations and it generally starts out like, hey,

(41:43):
I'd love to talk to you about something and asking
for their permissions you might ever have a conversation with
you about you know, maybe a difficult subject. Right, No, no,
I think that's okay. Now how am I sitting? Am
I sitting? Am I standing? Am I you know, squared
up to them? Or I'm off to this side? And
then you know we had road chairs high chairs and

(42:07):
my my legs crossed? Or am my you know, el
elbows on my knees. You know, what's my body language?
And then what's the tone? You know? Uh? Am I smiling?
Am I have a comfortable look in my face? Or
is their tension? You know that's before you a word
comes out? And then it's like listen, Brett, you and

(42:28):
I you know, are you know seem to be a
different sides of the political spectrum. I'm role playing here,
by the way, of course, and and you know, I
just really uh you know, Abraham Lincoln what said? I
do not like that?

Speaker 7 (42:44):
Man?

Speaker 4 (42:44):
I must get to know him better, right and that
it's a great quote. And so so you know, you
and I seem to have different views, but I'd love
to learn more. I'm curious and and and and you
know what are my and you know, my perspective as
sixty three. Ye oh, white male from Long Island is

(43:06):
different than yours. So help me understand why you feel
the way you do.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Right, that's it, that's it's usually important.

Speaker 4 (43:14):
Yeah, absolutely, yes, So how do you have crucial conversations?
We all want things in the instant. We don't think.
We react. So there's this great formula that I wish
I came up with. It's E plus R equals oh.
So E is the event. Our is how you react
or respond equals the oh, which is the outcome. It's

(43:39):
the event that curse. Somebody says something, somebody text something,
somebody tweets something, and you react. And I use the
example on the highway you're driving on seventy seven, somebody
cuts you off, you speed up next to them, you
flip from the birds, and then they shoot you in
the head.

Speaker 1 (43:57):
Yeah, oh god.

Speaker 3 (43:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
So the only thing I had control of was how
I reacted to the guy cutting me off. And the
better I react, the better the outcome. See, we get
hijacked emotionally and then we start operating out of the
bottom part of our brain versus the top. And how
do you get to the top of your brain is
to respond versus react. Right, react is immediate. So can

(44:23):
you condition yourself practice to count to ten or like
an email? Like an email that pisces you off? Right? Sure,
and you're like, I'm going to fire in for an email,
Well sleep on it. Yes. A friend of mine once said,
I'm a lot smarter in the morning than I am
in the night before.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
You know, you know, that's a great that's a great point, coach.
In our last moments here, I'm reminded of a person
that I worked with who shall remain nameless. Nobody would
know who this person was. But he went home one
night and sent off like a poison pen letter U

(45:03):
in the email to his boss, calling him everything but
a child of God, coach and like a miracle, okay,
like a miracle. He woke up the next morning and
he had actually emailed his former boss, not the current boss.
And so he said, I never send messages in an

(45:27):
angry fashion unless I'm totally certain. So we Okay, where
do people go to get coach? Coach? I gotta get that.

Speaker 4 (45:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah they can. They can go to my
website Dartycoaching dot com. That's d O h e r
t Y Coaching dot com or just email me at
Matt at Darty Coaching dot com.

Speaker 1 (45:45):
We appreciate you coming in, especially under these these very
difficult Yeah.

Speaker 4 (45:49):
That's awful. It's a bad day. I don't like that.
I like to say had a bad day, but this
is a bad day. It is a lot of so
one first and foremost to Charlie and his wife, kids.

Speaker 1 (46:01):
And hopefully we pull through.

Speaker 4 (46:02):
But you know, the state of our country is this
is becoming trail and place.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
All we can do is pray. That's it. We have
to pray for our country. We have to pray for
each other. You know what I'm saying. Amen, brother, take
care man for me on appreciate you, bro.

Speaker 7 (46:15):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (46:33):
News Talk eleven, ten ninety nine, three WBT. It is
the Brett Winterble Show. It is great to be with
you as we wing our way over to Liberty Mountain,
which is very very exciting production that is coming up
in October. Right, it's October. We're starting with is that.

Speaker 8 (46:52):
Isaiah September nineteen September the nineteenth Look at me, all right,
I'm sorry, I'm going to have to stay after because
I I've messed that one up.

Speaker 1 (47:01):
But it's going to be it's gonna be good. I see,
I've got two great teachers in here with me. I've
got Macie and I got Christina, and you folks are amazing.
And I know this production that that's going to be
coming down. I've seen it. I loved it, I fell
in love with it. I want to see it a
whole bunch of times more. But there's a great opportunity

(47:21):
here for the Liberty Mountain folk to educate the kids,
to teach them the real history and all the great
stuff that went on. So what do you think about it?

Speaker 5 (47:34):
The school shows have been an amazing experience for me
to be a part of as an actor and also
as a teacher, to see the students come in and
experience history for real. A lot of times history is
taught from the textbook, they see videos, but putting it
on a stage is amazing experience for them. It also
helps them connect. It helps them visualize where we came

(47:56):
from and where we're going and what they want to
be when they grow. So I think it's a great
experience for any schools or students that would like to come.

Speaker 1 (48:07):
And there's Look, you have a very nice theater. The
theater is nice it's big. People can come and be
a part of this, talk a little bit about your
passion for this and in teaching this with these kids.

Speaker 8 (48:17):
So the theater is also newly renovated, and that's very exciting.
So we've got more restroom space and concession stay and
all those things. But I think what's really neat about
this production is not just that it is historical drama.
It is historical drama which occurred right in the same

(48:41):
area where it is being performed. So it's about the
Battle of King's Mountains, which occurred right in that area,
being performed in a theater in King's Mountain, right. I mean,
so these kids are like, oh man, we're in kings
Out and they can see history come to life. And

(49:04):
then of course you can when you talk about it
after you've taken a school group to go. Sure, you
can say, hey, do you remember when this part instead
of just like Macy said, we learn history from a textbook. Yep,
kids don't remember that as much as if it comes

(49:25):
to life's right right in front of you, then it
becomes part of you. Yes, And that's what history needs
to be.

Speaker 1 (49:35):
So I always wonder about this with with with these
with these kids coming in, which, by the way, this
also functions beautifully with the curriculars with the state. Absolutely
with this, with the stuff that you have to do
to meet the requirements, right exactly, yes, which is really great.
And it gives also gives the teachers a little break
to rest a little bit and watch the show with

(49:56):
the folks as well too. Right.

Speaker 7 (49:58):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (49:59):
One of the things that I think is so is
so phenomenal is the interaction. And I don't want to
spoil it for anybody, but the interactivity that exists. You know,
everybody's used to looking on their phones and doing all
this stuff. You get live action stuff going on all around,
and that's got to be a particular treat I imagine.

Speaker 5 (50:18):
Oh, it's absolutely so fun. There are actors coming in
through the audience, there's actors on stage, they are everywhere.

Speaker 6 (50:26):
In all around.

Speaker 5 (50:27):
We've got singers, we've got some dancing. It is overall
a great show.

Speaker 1 (50:33):
That's phenomenal. It's phenomenon. And where do people go to
get to get that information? If they wanted to reach
out and say, hey, let's let's let's book this. Let's
book this for.

Speaker 8 (50:43):
The website is Libertymountain Drama dot com that will give
you all of the information. We've got a special anniversary
performance on Tuesday, October seventh, which it's the anniversary of
the Battle of King's Mountains.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
Will patentially yes, it's amazing.

Speaker 8 (51:00):
So for school shows, for matinees, we have matinees Saturday
and Sunday. Anything that you want to know about is
at Libertymountain Drama dot com.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
That's that's outstanding. I have to ask this question because
both of you guys are teachers, and it's when the
kids go in and they see it and they watch
the performance, right, and then the performance ends and I'm
not giving I'm not going to give anything away at all, right,
but the performance ends, do you ever get some sour
faces because of the bad guys who were part of it? Like,

(51:33):
did the kids ever go so person?

Speaker 8 (51:36):
Yeah, what's really really fun is that we'll have like
a question and answer session afterwards and some of the
bad guys, which we will not give those away, they
are sometimes asked some of the hardest questions. And these
actors really have looked into the history and gotten to

(52:00):
know their character. So there are some characters who are fictional.
This is historical fiction, sure, and that's what kind of
makes the story, you know, come alive even more. But
some of the characters are in the history book, Like,
these are actual people and you can learn the history
about them if you are playing that character, right, So

(52:23):
when the when the kids do ask those kinds of questions,
in those questions and answer things which can be kind
of sticky, then then you know more about that.

Speaker 3 (52:33):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (52:33):
I don't like what you did. That was you're you're
a bad person. Yeah, it's like and I'm sure that
I'm sure the actors ham it up as as well.
I mean absolutely. And one of the things that's really
cool is like some of the names that that we
know based on history severe uh, of course it's Shelby
and all of these folks. These are the people that
lived and worked and walked and did all this sort

(52:55):
of stuff that was happening. And that's that's what's so incredible.
You're really walking in the in the history of everything.

Speaker 5 (53:01):
Here are exactly And I love also that this show
highlights some of the women that we don't always see. Yes,
because last year I played Mary Patten and she was
an influential woman who helped create gunpowder for the Revolution.
I wore, and she is an incredible woman, and she's
not talked about. When I was in school, I didn't
really hear about her, but being in the show, it

(53:23):
brought me to her story. And it's amazing just to
see how even the children interact and connect with some
of those women characters.

Speaker 1 (53:31):
I thought I recognized you absolutely.

Speaker 8 (53:35):
Yeah, African Americans as well. Yes, there are several lines
that just bring that to light that there were so
many different women African Americans. People were confused though they
were They didn't know should should I really side with

(53:56):
the loyalists? Should I side with It? Was very confusing,
It was knew, it was frightening. And so I think
Macy and I both can agree that when when you're
on stage and you're thinking through yep, what would my
character truly.

Speaker 1 (54:12):
Feel like if they were hearing.

Speaker 8 (54:15):
The words of the Declaration of Independence for the very
first time.

Speaker 1 (54:19):
Yes, absolutely, things like that. That's amazing, that's and Cornwallace,
we know what happened to him, right, Okay.

Speaker 4 (54:28):
All good?

Speaker 1 (54:29):
All good for us?

Speaker 4 (54:30):
All right?

Speaker 1 (54:30):
So once again, where do people go for the for
the for the for the the gathering with the kids?
Where do they go again?

Speaker 8 (54:38):
Libertymountain drama dot com. All tickets, whether those are evening tickets,
school tickets, any of those.

Speaker 1 (54:47):
This is gonna be great. I'm excited. I'm excited for
the seventh. It's gonna be awesome. We're gonna we're gonna
have a blast, literally, and I guess on top of that, folks,
get your tickets. It's gonna be so amazing. It's it's transformative.
And bring those kiddos with you. Bring those kids, take
those teachers, get those kids, get the bus, bring them
up and put out the show. Thanks so much for

(55:09):
being here, you guys in Phenomena may See in Christiana.
Thank you so much. We appreciate you.

Speaker 9 (55:13):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (55:14):
You're very welcome. It's Brett Winter Bowl. And I just
have this announcement to make, and that is that Charlie
Kirk is dead, passed away. He was shot in Utah.
You know, I'm at a loss for words with this

(55:40):
because people, we debate, we talk, That's all this is
is talk, okay, And somebody decided today when they woke
up that they were going to take a life. They
were going to take a life of a man who

(56:02):
had opinions like Rush Limbaugh has opinions, had opinions like
Sean Hannity has opinions, like anybody in the public space
has opinions. And this person decided that he would wipe
out a man who was engaging, who was engaging with

(56:26):
people who disagreed with him. This business that we are
all in, everybody at this station, everybody at the radio
stations around the country, everybody who goes out and wants
to kind of talk about things and say, hey, is

(56:47):
this the right way to go? Is this the right
way to go? I disagree with you doing this, or
I disagree with you doing that. Are we too immature
in this country to have a conversation? Are we so
locked into our beliefs that you can't even have a

(57:11):
conversation about something to try to convert somebody on a
particular issue. We cannot ride the rails in Charlotte, and
we cannot We cannot go to an event and enjoy
a conversation. What is wrong? What is wrong? I know

(57:35):
so many people from all different walks of life who
are communicators. I know liberal people, I know conservative people,
I know people who are kind of in the middle.
I know all of these people, and do you know
what none of us wants to have happen is to
watch the slow. The slow role to infamy because people

(58:03):
decided today that they wanted to kill a person who
was a speaker who talked. How absurd would it be
in your mind if somebody decided that they were gonna
go and target you know anything you could imagine.

Speaker 7 (58:25):
Right.

Speaker 1 (58:26):
It's a conversation. This is a conversation. And this cuts
deeply because Charlie Kirk is somebody who had opinions. But
I'm telling you I've seen him in person. I've been
near him at Sea Pax, I've been to these different

(58:46):
sort of things. He is an incredibly respectful person to
people who disagree with him. He never said, you know,
get off my phone, you big jerk, or anything like that.
He's not that kind of a guy. He's a guy
he says, listen, Okay. So you're saying we should have
a higher income tax rate and then they go back

(59:08):
and forth, or you think that we should support Hamas
and then they go back and forth on that. Whatever
it is, it's an opinion. It's an opinion. And somebody
today decided that they were going to wake up, they
were going to go and they were going to murder

(59:30):
a man, a father, a husband, a conservative. That is
what happened today. They tried to kill Trump twice. Charlie
Kirk was a decent man who deserved to live and

(59:54):
who deserve to engage young people. I feel so bad
for the young people who are looking now for the
next opportunity to try to learn. My God, the terrible
things that have happened in the last three weeks, shooting

(01:00:17):
up at church, stabbing an innocent young lady, murdering her,
and now today Charlie Kirk murdered for having opinions. May
the Lord keep him. News Talk eleven, ten ninety nine

(01:00:42):
three WBT. It has just crossed five five in the afternoon.

(01:01:33):
It is the Brett Winterbuwl Show. A law enforcement officials
confirm that Charlie Kirk has been killed there in Utah.
He was spending time with a group of people who
were wanting to hear the conversation and all that that
comes with and somebody decided that they were going to

(01:01:55):
murder him and they did today. Pray for the country,
I really, I really mean this. We need to pray
for our country because this this cannot continue to go
on here. I've been getting some comments from folks who
are who are are listening to the to the program,

(01:02:16):
and a lot of very very thoughtful ideas coming through here.
And and when we look at where we are as
a country, we have to remember this. There's no place
else that we can go, right this is this is
our country, and we can be divided. And we saw
what division looked like in the nineteenth century during the

(01:02:43):
American Civil War, and I don't want to see our
country go in that direction. I don't want to see
that happen. Ever again, I don't want to see any
of this. And this has got to change, right, this
has got to change. If we can't go out and

(01:03:07):
enjoy our spaces, are places, all of that sort of stuff,
then what are we supposed to do? What are we
supposed to supposed to do? Michael says, May the Lord
have mercy on our country. The fight is over for Charlie,
and he is at home with his heaven, with his
heavenly father. The gates opened wide, and he heard the

(01:03:31):
well done, my good and faithful servant. Yes, I think
I think that is probably accurate. But unfortunately he leaves
behind a wife, and he leaves behind children, which is
so heartbreaking in every possible way. Eric says, if this
was a liberal activist, the city and country would be

(01:03:53):
on fire by now. That's the difference between conservatives and liberals.
I just I think we have have plenty of time
to talk about that. But I think the loss of
this man, I think is very It's tragic. It is
a tragedy, and we've been stacking up a lot of
tragedies in these last three four weeks. And it's a

(01:04:17):
shame and it's a sin to think about all of this.
This from a not named person, Brett. I'm pretty sure
the right is sick and tired of leaders on the
left leaving crazy people on the streets so that they
can kill innocent people. And I'm pretty sure the right

(01:04:39):
are sick and tired of people on the left shooting
people on the right. I don't want to see any
more budshed, Okay. I think we have got to work
through this in a sensible, meaningful way. Senseless killing r

(01:05:01):
I P. Charlie Kirk, I'll miss your opinions and quick wit. Thanks.
Don you know people are are sharing their feelings and
sharing their thoughts in this regard. I feel particularly sad
if you're talking about a constituency of people, I think
it's a very sad constituency. Uh. The young people who

(01:05:22):
have come up and have have been able to learn,
learn and and to debate and to and to be
part of the conversation. This is this is what we
This is what we have. You know, this is this
is what we This is what we have. I I

(01:05:43):
have somebody who's trying to start something, and I'm I'm
just not going to give them the time of day.
In this regard, you cannot have a conversation with people
who want us dead. Uh. Well that that that's pretty
much true. That's pretty much true. Right, Hamas wants to
kill us, bad guys want to kill us. Lots of
stuff like that. But we have got to defend the country,

(01:06:06):
and we have to protect the country, and we have
to work as hard as we can. Look. The reality
is we had men and women who crossed oceans to
go liberate people who were being oppressed. We are not oppressed.
We are still free, and we are still free to

(01:06:27):
talk and to converse and to discuss all the things
that are out there. I don't think for a minute
that Charlie Kirk would want us to hide or to
do any of that sort of stuff. It is now
time when we engage in a peaceful way, where we talk,

(01:06:47):
where we opine, we do all of that. That is
what needs to happen. That is what needs to happen.
We now have the high ground because well, as I said,
in the last hour, they tried to kill Trump twice.

(01:07:08):
He's still there. They killed Charlie Kirk, whoever they are,
we'll find out who they are, right. But the fact
of the matter is now is not the time to
turn on each other in this community or anyplace else.
Because we have the high ground. We understand how this
all ends. If you're a person of faith, you understand

(01:07:31):
how all this ends. It ends. It ends the way
it's supposed to, and we cannot force it, and we
cannot do it. We have got to spend much more
time with people talking to them. And I'm getting these
messages from folks saying talking it doesn't do anything. It

(01:07:53):
does a lot. It actually does a lot. I think
there are people who are seeing. I think there are
people who are seeing the scales come from their eyes
and they're understanding what it is that's happening. This is

(01:08:16):
an important issue. This is a moment for the entire country.
The world is looking at us, and what do we see.
We see horrible crime in so many cities, and we
see a group of people who do not want those
folks to come in and to clean up those streets. Well,

(01:08:39):
those streets are going to get cleaned up. The idea
of doing anything, rioting, being crazy, doing stuff like that
is counter productive and nobody should take that bait because
this country is still standing strongly and proudly, and that
is what we have to do. The greatest tribute you

(01:09:03):
can give to Charlie Kirk is to engage, engage, engage
in the conversation. That that is the way you pushed
for this. That is how you go. You know, the
people who are upset the most are the folks who

(01:09:28):
have difficulty channeling a serious response. And a serious response is, Hey,
if you want to talk about the politics of the day,
if you want to have this conversation, we can have
this conversation. And that is the fact. He lost his
life at the hands of a lunatic or a demon

(01:09:57):
or whatever it is. But as that posters said just
a couple of moments ago, he's in heaven. He's in heaven.
And what we have to do tonight and every night
is pray for this country that it remains strong and
it remains undivided. News Talk eleven, ten ninety nine, three

WBT Brett Waterbule Show, Let's take some calls. Mark and
rock Hill. Welcome to the show. What's on your mind?
Mark Rat Yes, sir.

Speaker 9 (01:10:37):
I'm I'm shaken to what is to what has happened today?
You know a son, a sibling, a husband, and a
father was that you know has died a result of
the tragedy of our of our interpersonal communication or how

(01:10:58):
to disagree?

Speaker 4 (01:10:59):
How did it go? She ate?

Speaker 9 (01:11:00):
And this man of the model was is a role
model for that and.

Speaker 4 (01:11:07):
For that.

Speaker 9 (01:11:11):
I'm still I'm still shaken by this self described rush baby.
On election night last year before closing, you know, uh, interest,
you know interest bersed and those that were the night
owls who thrive on this on this stuff from our
digital age, and I said, this is the first you know,

(01:11:35):
this is a well, I hate, really hate to say it.
It's you know, I was too young to remember my
parents and teachers shielded me from r f ks and
Barcay Junior's dad and Martin Luther king'ssassination.

Speaker 4 (01:11:51):
I said, we're all.

Speaker 9 (01:11:53):
Going to remember where we were, what we were doing,
or how we were advocating for American excellence. Some time
we heard this news about it. Yes, I've seen I've
seen the moment of impact of the bullets that have
just shown it on them Steve Bannon's war room in
that and so there's a picture of Drudge right now

(01:12:16):
that it's partially blurred, but the moment of impact there,
it's on his front page. It's graphic. And I said, well,
I want these images seared in my head because there
go the grace of God. And you know, I could
have been a tragedy of well violent kind myself.

Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
So well, yeah, look, I understand. Look, I understand what
you're seeing and what you're feeling in that regard. I mean,
it's look, this is a you know, this is a
devastating reality of the world in which we live. But
it's not lost on me. It's not lost on me

(01:12:52):
that tomorrow is September the eleventh, and we at that
moment in time and I can still smell the smell
of the burning towers on the back end of that.

(01:13:14):
I gotta tell you this. We are going to get
through this. Mark. We are going to get through this.
And what we have got to do is exactly what
we did back on nine to eleven. We have got
to be resolved. We have got to be resolved. We
have a very powerful ability to search out who did this,
how it came to pass, and God forbid that this

(01:13:37):
was a some sort of a foreign operation or something
like that. That is going to be a real problem.
That is going to be a real problem if that's
the case. But we don't know. But all I say
about nine to eleven is we got through this. We
will get through this as long as we keep our
heads about us. And it's hard and it's tough, and

(01:14:00):
it's awful, and we shouldn't have to do this. But
next man up, there will be people who come forward
and begin the process of rebuilding this effort to engage
young people so that they are not led astray to

(01:14:24):
a failing ideology. And that is what is important. And
I just pray that we have peace in our country,
and I just pray that we understand exactly what the
plan is, and the plan is liberation for the American people,
for the cities who are suffering in so many horrible

(01:14:47):
ways as a result of crime in Charlotte, in DC,
in Chicago, in California, and in Utah. In Utah, that
is what we have to do. You think for a
moment that had it been a Gray's wound on his

(01:15:10):
arm or his leg or something like that, he wouldn't
have given up. And now is not the time to
give it up. Now is the time to understand that
we must all be engaged and we must all turn
hate to a positive thing. Don't let hate consume you

(01:15:31):
about this. Don't do that. You should pray, you should
feel sad, you should feel angry. This is absolutely a
thing that happens. But we can not must not sacrifice
this constitutional republic because the vultures are circling and they

(01:15:57):
want this place to fail. They want this place to fail.
And it's not because we understand the importance of this
light of the world. News Talk eleven ten, three WBT,

(01:16:38):
It's the brettwater Bow Show. Good to be with you.
Under terrible circumstances, obviously, but we we we will soldier
on here because this is this is what we we
have got to do. David, Welcome to the program. David,
What's on your mind.

Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
Hey man.

Speaker 10 (01:16:52):
First of all, man, seriously spit them all my especially
during you know what you're saying here. I will say
where you're coming from that you think that, you know,
having a good discussion with the socialist Democrats. There's a
difference when a democrat in these socialists right now, I

(01:17:13):
guarantee you that when they find this killer, you're gonna
find out it's conspiracy. That's gonna be No, that's that's
number one. But number two, man, you cannot think that on.

Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
Your radio show.

Speaker 10 (01:17:30):
That you're going to change mind because when you the
demographics of what you have right here is probably ninety
percent conservatives. So we've got the bad news. We already
know what is going on. The only thing I'm telling
you is the stuff that's happened with Charlotte, which is
a democratic city, and it goes down to the very

(01:17:55):
roots of what the Democratic Party is, what they're trying
to change. And then you have this young man, a.

Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
Thirty one year old man, Yes, who is here?

Speaker 10 (01:18:03):
Article about what he does?

Speaker 1 (01:18:05):
Yes, about what he says?

Speaker 10 (01:18:07):
He has a demean.

Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
Anybody correct this, But hold.

Speaker 10 (01:18:14):
On on the conservative side, we're to the point now
we cannot even.

Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Talk no, no, no, no, no, no. Look that is that
that is not true at all, that that there are
people who are going to try to tell you you
shouldn't talk or it shouldn't have an opinion or something
like that. And that I fine, I understand that. But
the important constituency here is the constituency that that Charlie
was talking to the young people who are coming up

(01:18:43):
and they are going to feel a terrible blow because
this was a guy who was engaging with them. Okay,
I understand that, but bo wait but hold on, but
hold on. So so what I'm saying is the focus
on this should be on Charlie, and the focus on
this should be on the youths who are understanding what

(01:19:06):
like if I don't know how old you are, but like,
let's say you were around during the RFK assassination. I
don't know if you did or not, but listen, Okay,
that had an imprint. We had an imprint off of
nine to eleven. We had an imprint off of COVID,
We had an imprint off of all of these things.
And these kids need to be helped. Yeah, okay, I was,

(01:19:29):
I was right there too. Go ahead.

Speaker 10 (01:19:32):
All I'm saying man, I hear.

Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
What you're saying. But so what what's your what's your fix?

Speaker 10 (01:19:38):
I think right now that there are battle lines crossed
right between Okay, the social.

Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
Democrat, who's that? Give me one, who's the socialist democrat
you're talking about?

Speaker 10 (01:19:52):
Wow, Joe Biden is.

Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
No, no, no, But the point is no, The point
is looking.

Speaker 10 (01:19:58):
Up, looking off the stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:19:59):
He this country man, of course. But but we're winning,
yes we are.

Speaker 10 (01:20:05):
But you're having all these people that are coming out of.

Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
The woodwork, of course, think haters. Let me real quick ahead, yeah,
go ahead.

Speaker 10 (01:20:13):
Go ahead, tell me you tell me anytime that you
have seen a conservative shoot and kill a Democrat.

Speaker 1 (01:20:26):
Conservatives don't do that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:28):
There you good?

Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
Okay, So so what's the point.

Speaker 10 (01:20:33):
The point is.

Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
No, No, The point is listen, Democrats.

Speaker 10 (01:20:37):
Or regular lady, they are turning the heat up so hot.

Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
Okay, but don't don't they don't rise to the bait.
Don't rise to the bait. Influence the kids that you
can influence, Influence people who are uncertain and things like that.
That's what this is. This, this is the whole point.
You know, there's there's a whole lot of ways that
you can skin a cat. But the fact of the

(01:21:03):
matter is it's it's all bad for the cat. Okay,
and that and that, and that's the thing that we're
dealing with here. I mean, I look, let me just
tell you. I'll tell you the story. Okay. When the
storm comes, and today it has, it doesn't just shake

(01:21:28):
the ground beneath us, but it does test the very
soul of a country. Charlie Kirk was killed in Utah,
shot while speaking beneath a canopy that read proved me wrong.
A man who built his life around debate, conviction and

(01:21:48):
the courage to speak. And now silence. But we we
must not. We must not be silent. We have to speak,
but not with rage, not with retaliation, but with resolve,
because when the violence has chosen over peace, the temptation

(01:22:14):
is to answer in kind, to meet fire with fire.
But that's not the way forward. That's the bait, and
we must not do it. What does the Bible tell you,
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the

(01:22:35):
children of God, not the passive, not the indifferent, Not
that the peacemakers, those who step into the chaos and say,
not this way. We have to be those people James
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

(01:22:57):
Peace is not weakness, people, it is strength under control.
It is righteous indignation tempered by wisdom. And yes, there
is such a thing as righteous anger. Jesus overturned the
tables in the temple. He did not tolerate corruption, he
did not ignore injustice. But he did not kill, and

(01:23:20):
he did not destroy. He confronted with truth, not violence.
That's our charge, if it's possible, as far as it
depends on you, live at peace with everyone. That's our
charge for this, not to surrender our convictions, but to

(01:23:42):
carry them with dignity. Charlie Kirk famously said, if you
believe in something, you need to have the courage to
fight for those ideas and not run away from them
or try to silence them. He believed in the power
of ideas in the battlefield of war, words not weapons.
So how do we do this? What do we do?

(01:24:05):
We hold the line, We speak truth, We mourn those
who mourn. We condemn violence, not just when it touches
our side, but whenever it desecrates the sacred space of dialogue.
We do not retaliate. We do not descend. We rise
as a country. Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome

(01:24:28):
evil with good. That's our weapon, goodness, courage, peace. You
can be as angry as you want to be. You
can be as angry as you want to be. But
let's be clear. This was not just an attack on
a man. It was an attack on discourse, on the
right to speak, on the idea that we can disagree

(01:24:50):
without destroying. But we will not be baited into bitterness.
We will not be left grief, let grief become hatred.
We will not let fear become fury. What is the answer?
The storm is going to pass. When it does, the

(01:25:11):
question will remain. Who held the line? Let the answer
be yes.

Speaker 4 (01:25:34):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
About you. I'm gonna take the bows sources. It's my destiny.

Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
Yes, do me.

A nine three WBT, very fitting song there, Isaac seven
four or five seven eleven ten, taking your calls up
till the end of the hour. Stan, Welcome to the program. Stan,
what's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (01:26:31):
Yeah? I just want to say if I was a
college student this day in time and they just took
somebody out who was just wanting to have a conversation
with me. I would spend at least the next few
years trying to figure out exactly what it is they
did not want me to know, and we need to
get people to fill in that gap so they understand.

Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
I think that's a very important point. I think that's
a very important point that you're that you're raising.

Speaker 11 (01:26:55):
There, and I always enjoy your sobrit.

Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Thank you, thank you, thank you, appreciate you being out there.
Stand Mike, Welcome to the show.

Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
Hey, Brett, I was telling Isaac. He asked me what
I want to talk about, and I said, you know,
really two things. Mainly, I mean, it's a dark, really
bad day for America. I am outraged and saddened by
Charlie Kirk's death and this shooting. I mean Charlie Kirk,

(01:27:30):
it seems the right way in my view. He goes
into the debate, he engages in the exchange of ideas.
It's kind of like that my own way. I try
and do that when I call in, and you will
allow that sort of engagement. And the second thing I
wanted to say, Brett is ready to commend you because

(01:27:51):
I didn't hear much of the conversation this afternoon. I
just tuned in around five point thirty and the caller
that was calling, and he was understandably upset and angry
folks like me, Democrats wanting to paint with a broad brush,
and Howard wanting to you know, they're wanting to shut
us up.

Speaker 4 (01:28:10):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (01:28:12):
You're exactly right to stay angry, but to keep the peace.
I can tell you that there's plenty for folks on
the left to get angry about, but it's also very
important to keep the peace. And you know, he was
asking what conservative sheets liberal? You know, the liberals, and

(01:28:34):
you know the guy that was looking to bash in
Nancy Pelosi's head with a hammer.

Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was an unfortunate day when
that happened, and I knew you would probably just take
it right off the rails, Mike, Mike, we can have conversations.
The audience feels insulted on a day like today when
you put out the layer of yeah, everything is, we're

(01:29:03):
really sad, we're really sorry, we're really all that stuff.
But again, I sit back and I am amazed when
you call the show, because you have to turn it
into something that insults the audience. It's almost every time.
And you can keep calling and I'll keep taking your calls,
and that's totally fine. But talk about a backhanded salute. Man, Jeez, Louise, buddy,

(01:29:30):
I'm sorry. I think you're a little tone deaf today. Ah,
Jim san Diego, what's up, Jim?

Speaker 12 (01:29:39):
Yeah, thank you for having me on. All they can
say after HEARDing the news about what happened to Charlie Kirks, pray,
pray more than you have your having your life. Yep,
this is exactly what they're trying to take from you,
is the belief and the fact that there is a
higher authority that is fueling everything and it was his decision. Ultimately,
no matter what the holding the person holding the rifle

(01:30:01):
thought he was doing, it was up to God and
God alone.

Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
Yeah, that's true. I mean that's absolutely true. You know
when you think about this, I mean, this is this
is such a such a horrible day. I mean, this
is this is one of the things that we're going
We're going to remember this for many, many years. And
remember this was all predicated. This is all predicated on conversation,

(01:30:25):
on having a conversation, whether you're just to talk, yes,
exactly and the fact of the matter is, you know,
we have great sports people who talk, we have politics
people who talk. We have every sort of thing. And
that's a beautiful thing about this country. Remember, ladies and gentlemen,
the most important thing that you can keep in your

(01:30:45):
heart is your freedom. And you have to do this.
And I want you to pray tonight for your country.
And I want you tomorrow morning to get down on
your knees and pray for this country again on the
twenty fourth wrap around since nine to eleven. God bless you,

bless Charlie Kirk for his sacrifice to advance the conversation.
