There are already signs that it could be rolled out across the UK. A lot of estate agents still think that a free or unbelievably cheap damp survey is enough to tick the box on a mortgage application. This is rarely the case anymore. Check the small print of guarantees. Some damp treatment firms require homeowners to install and run continuous fans. If they don´t and the mould comes back, they may not honour the guarantee. Before having work done, make sure the company has proper public liability insurance. If you are in the PCA you automatically become a Trustmark member. If timber has saturation higher than 20% it is more at risk of fungal attack. Damp surveyors who invest in themselves and take PCA courses are able to earn more. They know more and can solve complex damp and mould problems. Tenants have up to 6 years to complain about damp and mould problems.
