Speaker 2 (00:27):
Are we trading Adam Feelin to Minnesota? That's a conversation
today that and well, I've been on the phone for
about twenty four straight hours. It feels with high school
football coaches. That's a good thing, by the way, because
football is back. High school football making its triumphant return
to wfn Z this weekend in the form of the
twenty twenty five Keep Pounding Classic. We got all that

(00:47):
to get to Pittsburgh and Carolina tomorrow night. I am
going to mock Jay Williams a bit more here in
the three o'clock hour, and some good friends stopping by
the show here on a Wednesday, Andrew Philipponi having the
fan in Pittsburgh coming up in the four o'clock hour
the Pony Express. I can go ahead and spoil part
of that conversation for two reasons. We did this conversation

(01:10):
right before the show today because a simple Google search
would show you that Andrew Philippony is on the air
at the same time that I am, but I love
his Pittsburgh perspective, so that's happening. Also, I noticed as
we were beginning the conversation that he tweeted out he
will not take the Steelers seriously as a contender so
long as Mike Tomlin is the head coach in Pittsburgh.

(01:31):
So we will have a very interesting conversation with him
coming up in the four o'clock hour, or you will
hear that anyway. Roman Harper, two time pro bowler, Super
Bowl champion, SEC Network analyst our buddy Roman Harper, who
was the man of the match for Charlotte f C
at the Bank this past weekend. He was double fisting
and crushing bruise with a supporter section as part of

(01:52):
Charlotte f c's went over the weekend. We'll talk to
Roman Harper coming up at five o'clock. We are emanating
live from the Chandler Volta studio the Carolinas personal injury
Lawyers of course, one call that's all go to Cvinjury
lawd dot com. I'MKB that's smoke Ludwig. You look fired
up today. What's going on? Buddy? How are you sorry?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I rolled my eyes when Andrew Field Pony was complaining
about Mike Tomlin.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
It's so crazy, just the world, and I told him this,
I was like, universe is apart in how the fans
see the head coaching situation, the organization, the belief in
the organization, because there is a perception outside of Pittsburgh
everywhere but Pittsburgh just about probably everywhere for the most part,
majority that the Steelers have a coach who's been around

(02:34):
for nineteen years. He's the longest tenured head coach in
the NFL. He's never had a losing record since he's
been there. They always make the playoffs eventually, to get
bounced or even blown out early. That's their expectation up there.
But still they have winning expectations. They have playoff expectations,
and they have for decades now. So it's always interesting
for me to talk to guys like Pony up in
Pittsburgh because he deals and deals with and talks with

(02:56):
their fans every day, and their conversations are quite different
from everybody else's. So that's coming up a little bit
later in the show. But I do want to start
with the Adam Thelen report that you know Minnesota could
be interested in bringing Adam Thlen back to the great
state of Minnesota if you know they in fact need
wide receiver help badly enough. There's I think Mike Florio

(03:19):
was one of the first ones that I saw to
float the idea of Adam Thlen back to Minnesota. As
now Minnesota's dealing with the wide receiver injury. This one
is kind of simple for me because I know people
have been talking about this all day, and we have been,
you know, talking about the possibility or even likelihood of
Carolina leaving excuse me, rostering seven wide receivers, Adam Thln,

(03:41):
of course being one of those. I still believe that
they're on track to do that, and I don't think
they want to trade Adam Thelen. I don't believe they
prefer to trade Adam Thelen. They're certainly not looking to Minnesota, however,
could make it worth their while, right, we already know
that Adam Thlen's at thirty five year old wide recis
who you know, as good as he has been at

(04:02):
times the last two years, and he has been very
good at times, is not quite the wide receiver that
he used to be, and this is likely as last
year in the NFL. So if Minnesota and again, I
think this is unlikely. If Minnesota comes to Carolina and says, hey,
we'll send you a fifth round pick and you send

(04:23):
us Adam Thielen and a seventh in return, I think
Dan Morgan is thinking about it. I think Brent Tillis,
the analytics mind inside the building, might even push him
to do it. If Minnesota wanted him badly enough they
wanted to offer a fourth, I think Carolina would have
to do it. I think Dan Morgan would have to
do it. But if Minnesota, you know, calls Dan Morgan

(04:46):
and says, hey, we'll give you a seventh rounder for Adam,
you know if you want to, you're not doing that trade.
You're not You're not dealing in those terms. I don't
even think a sixth round pick does it. I really don't.
But if you could, in theory, if you're Dan Moore,
bring back a fourth or fifth, more likely a fifth.
If you could bring back a fifth round pick in

(05:06):
exchange for a guy who is probably not going to
be here a year from now, likely going to be
in retirement, and it allows you to, you know, play
more of your young guys, you might do that deal.
So I don't look for Adam Thielen to be traded.
But if Minnesota calls Dan Morgan or potentially has already
smoke and offers them valuable draft capital for Adam Thielen,

(05:28):
I do think that Dan Morgan, possibly at the urging
of a guy like Brent Tillis, would do the deal
on the right terms.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, And for Adam, you know, he wouldn't be against
it because not only is he you know, former longtime
Minnesota Viking. That's where he's from, that's where he grew up,
that's where he went to college. Like, he is a
Minnesotaan through and through. So I don't think he would
be against that in the slightest And you know what
a better way to go out than after a couple
of years playing here in Carolina go back to Minnesota

(05:56):
trying to compete for a team that won fourteen games
last year at a fall through. We don't know what
JJ McCarthy is, but you know it's gonna be pretty
hard for JJ McCarthy to fail.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Kevin O'Connell's offense is kind of a proven entity at this.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Point, well, especially when you look at the wide receiver room,
and the main reason why is because Jordan Addison's facing
a suspension. I think it's only gonna be three or
four games. But still, I mean, you have justin bleeping Jefferson, sure,
who's one of the best wide receivers in the game.
You're getting Christian Darsol back. You got a pretty good
run game. So if you fail in this system as
a quarterback, that's on you, in my opinion. So it's

(06:30):
one of those situations where you come back home you
try to compete. So it makes a lot of sense,
but Carolina needs the right pieces in place to make
a deal.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Now.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
I looked up the Vikings draft capital this year and
it's kind of up in the air. They technically don't
have a fourth rounder, but it's a conditional. Remember they
traded away Cam Robinson to the Jacksonville Jaguars, So it
depends on how many snaps he plays. So let's say,
for example, Camp Robinson plays all the snaps he would,

(06:59):
it will be four round pick I believe they get
from Jacksonville, so so on and so forth. It just
depends on the snap. So it's gonna be interesting to
see how that plays out. But it's weird they don't
have that many draft picks, but then again, I don't
know what their compick formula is, and the Vikings have
been notorious when it comes to getting a lot of
comp picks in time.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
For the draft. Yeah. Again, I don't think they're looking
to do this, But if Minnesota wants him badly enough,
I think they're willing to four labradoodles on the FanDuel
text line. And by the way, the FanDuel text line
as always open for business seven oh four or five
seven ninety six to ten says we got to think
about that trade. Where would Bryce be without Adam Thieln
He really would have been bottom of the barrel. Yeah,

(07:39):
of course, you gotta th That's why I keep saying
I don't believe they're interested. They're not, certainly not giving
Adam feeling away. They prefer to keep him. They're planning
on him being a part of the formula at least
for the foreseeable future this year, of course. But if
Minnesota comes and they want it badly enough, you know,
there are certain deals you can't turn down in sports,
so we'll have to wait and see. I don't think
Mennesota will do that. In fact, you know someone said

(08:02):
a minute ago that they'll take a fourth, but a
fifth probably isn't good enough for them. The flip side
of that is, if Minnesota were to give up a
fourth for a thirty five year old wide receiver who
is most likely going to retire at year's end, the
Vikings fans would probably not love that. Not not that
fans dictate what general managers do all the time, but
you know, fans are often smart people. I don't think

(08:23):
Minnesota would have a great deal of support for sending
a fourth for Adam Thielen unless you truly believe that
this is a super Bowl team and bringing Adam home
can help win you a Super Bowl in Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
And that's where I think this could become something where
Dan probably says, hey, well, maybe we don't meet on
both ends here in the middle right now, but let's
shelve this conversation see where we're at in the middle
to late portions of October, because I do think if
Caroline is not in a good spot in October, Dan
Morgan will say, hey, let's go back to Minnesota. Let's

(08:56):
talk with MENSA, Let's see if we can get this
steal done. And Dan, you talk about it, didn't hash
it out, and then I think a lot of people
make sense. And even as you said, Minnesota are very
smart fans, the Vikings are. They have some of the
smartest fans in the world and also some of the
most pain stricken fans in the whole world.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
They know at.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Least, hey, we get this extra wide receiver. That's good
and I think the blow will be lessened because it's
one of their own coming home for one last go.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Sure we had someone said the ar said, of course Florio,
the Minnesota Vikings fan, would start this rumor. Is that
something I'm supposed to know? By the way, is Florio
a Vikings fan? I was not aware that that's the case.
I know he's from West Virginia and lives Yeah, I
think so. Yeah. I think a lot of people make
the assumption he's a Steelers fan. Yeah. By the way,
I don't think he spun this up out of nowhere.
I think this is These conversations are real. These conversations

(09:45):
are always taking place behind closed doors and in the
offices of NFL general managers. So Florio didn't make this
one up. And it's not as if we've had no
conversations about the Panthers having a deep wide receiver room
and the possibility that they could look to flip one
of these guys for you know, linebacker help or even
more corner help if they needed to. Yeah, those things,
you know, definitely happened all the time. The Panthers have

(10:07):
done that stuff. They did it last year with Michael
Barrett and Mike Jack, So it is certainly a possibility.
I think Dan Morgan is willing to listen. I think,
you know, if Minnesota wanted him badly enough that the
Panthers would probably do the deal. But unless Minnesota knocks
their socks off with an offer, the Panthers are content
to keep Adam Thielen as part of this wide receiver corps.
Hunter Renfro came up on the text line a minute

(10:28):
ago says, because of Hunter Renfro, if he wants to go,
see what you can get for him. That was big
cat Dan. I believe see what you get either way.
Kick the tires like. That's the other thing too. I
still think Adam Thln's probably one of the two or
three best wide receivers on this team right now. But
you've got two first round picks in Tenero McMillan and
Xavier League. Get guys who are going to play. You

(10:48):
have to play those guys. You're not playing Adam Thlen
over them necessarily. And you know, I was talking to
somebody earlier today, like in the slot, you've got some options.
But if Hunter Renfro is back to full health at
twenty eight twenty nine years old, is he better than
Adam Thlen right now? Well, maybe it's certainly possible, and
he's definitely younger, so you know, then you still have

(11:09):
Jimmy Horn Junior and David Moore back there, and of
course I haven't even mentioned Jalen Koker, who's had a
fantastic camp outside of getting ill recently. So it is possible,
but I wouldn't place a bet on Adam Thielen becoming
a Minnesota Viking again, at least not right now. Seven
oh four, five, seven oh ninety six ten hit us
up on the fan duel text line super Bowl Scotty saying,

(11:29):
why can't Renfro take Adam Thlen's place? Well, he can,
and we've always said, you know, since Hunter Renfro rejoined
the NFL and signed with Carolina months ago, that that
is something that could materialize down the road. But I
never felt like it was urgent for them to send
Adam Thielen or either one of them off before you
find out exactly what you've got in both. So definitely possible.

(11:51):
And as we've come to realize more so than ever
in the NFL, that trade deadline in November is happening
in the National Football League in a way that it
certainly it wasn't when I was growing up and when
you were growing up. So deals get made all the time,
players change teams, Teams were able to go find pieces
they need mid season, so we got a long year
ahead of us. This roster is if we've learned anything

(12:11):
over the past several years, but obviously decades of watching
the NFL, but especially the last several years, these rosters
are anything but set in stone and could look wildly
different by the time the Thanksgiving roles around.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
And as you said, we're still not even at the point,
I believe or almost coming up on the year to
the date of the trade for Mike jack So we
didn't even we weren't even talking about Mike Jackson at
this day last year, and now Mike Jackson played here
last year was pretty good and got a two year extension,
so I don't think we can count anything out that
they could make a couple of trades or two, especially

(12:42):
with some of the places that they are very liked at.
Like I still think they're going to make a move
for a safety of some kind. I still think they're
going to make a move for a linebacker some kind.
It just depends on what happens here. And I'm not
discounting the Adam Field and trade idea. I just don't
think it's gonna happen right now now. I think depending
on how the record goes and how the team looks,

(13:03):
it'll happen at the deadline. If it does happen outside
of that, I don't think it's going to happen right
now unless they get completely blown away.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah, offer Okay. North Star Race fan hit us Up says,
as a Vikings fan, what do we have a Minnesota
transplant here? Seven oh four number says as a Vikings fan,
maybe not. I love it, but fourth seems rich for
one year before retirement. No, I agree, I do. I
agree with that, which is why I don't think Vikings
fans would necessarily celebrate or support that move, although the
front office could be willing to do it. A fourth.

(13:32):
I think Dan Morgan's trading Adam Thielen. I mean, how
do you not that seems like the kind of deal
you'd get crushed for if other things don't work out.
If they offer a fourth, fifth, yeah, maybe probably beyond
that though, I mean a six or seventh round pick
in exchange for a guy you might really need still
this upcoming season. I don't think Dan's doing that. Seven
oh four, five, seven oh ninety six to ten. Hit

(13:54):
us up on the fan duel text line. Nick the
Amazon driver said, what if they send David More? I
don't think Minnesota would be in interested. I got to
be honest, I don't think that. I don't think Kevin
O'Connell likely. You know, admires David Moore as much as
Dave Canalis does. It's a safe bet, right. I don't
think anybody in the NFL necessarily And I say this

(14:16):
Pete Carroll, Okay, Pete likes him, yea, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was respectfully because I'm a David Moore fan. I've
said this. I don't think anybody though, outside of those
two guys. I'll give you those two likes David Moore
as much as Pete Carroll and Dave Canalis do let's
see heat. Fan says Jalen Coker would be the first
in line to take Thielan spot before Renfro. What are
we talking about. I'm just talking about where guys line

(14:37):
up on the outside versus the slot. I mean, you
can use Jalen Coker all over the place, but you know,
the way that guy's played on the outside, I'd imagine
he's going to get more of his opportunities there. We
had somebody a minute ago. These texts are coming in
hot and heavy right now. A lot of people just
saying send him. David Moore, I don't think that's gonna work.
Marshall from Mount Holly says, let's compete and stop helping

(14:58):
teams compete. Is that what you'd be doing in this scenario, though,
because in theory I hear you, Because, yeah, I understand
your point. If you're doing a deal for one of
the wide receivers, I think at this stage in the game,
you'd be more looking to pull off a deal where

(15:21):
you know you get a player that you need in return,
like the aforementioned Michael Barrett Mike Jackson trade from last offseason. Yeah,
I like your point. I mean, it's not let's compete
and let's stop helping teams compete. Listen, getting a fourth
round pick, best case scenario certainly helps you compete over
the next couple of years. Fifth round pick two. But
the here and now, you're not wrong about that. Let's see,

(15:42):
Zach and Miami says, excel and change for Micah Parsons.
I think we've got to put the Micah Parsons stuff
away for the for a while, probably for the until
the offseason. I know you're still very much on board
that train, but we got to put the Micah Parsons
thing down for a while. I don't I still don't
believe that that Jerry has any real intention of trading
Micah Parsons anywhere, even with that statement, and Mike is

(16:04):
saying he no longer wants to be a cowboy, no
longer wants to wear the star, just doesn't have it
in his heart anymore. So it's fine, it's good, got it,
but I don't believe it until it actually happens, and
I certainly don't believe that it's happening before the start
of the season, probably not at all. All Right, great
stuff on the FanDuel text line, A lot of things
to get to phone lines open, some phone calls coming in.
Would love to hear from you. We'll get to that

(16:26):
wide open three o'clock hour. Tons to get to Sports
Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z. I got Sports

(16:49):
Radio ninety two seven w FNZ. The show brought to
you by Victory Chevrole Goo see my buddy Brandon Gandy.
If you are in the market for a new car,
new truck, new Chevy in particular, go to Victory Chevrolet
dot com Wide Open, three o'clock hour, taking your phone
calls here in just a second. Talking about the Panthers
and the report, I believe that it must have originated
with Mike Florio. But the Minnesota Vikings are suddenly a

(17:12):
bit short on wide receivers, and there's a report out
there that the Vikings could be interested in a reunion
with Adam Thielen, who is of course best known for
his time in his home state with his Minnesota Vikings.
So he's a Panther for now, and I think he
will probably remain one. But if Minnesota were to bring
a deal to the table to Dan Morgan, that made
sense for Carolina. I do believe they'd be willing to

(17:34):
part with Adam Thielen. Now real quick text line is
getting interesting here, a lot of Texters blowing us up.
We have some Vikings fans actually chiming in. As we
talked about to start the show, I got amits back,
though always good for a spicy one says, play and
develop the young guys. Like I said before, cutthelan Tetoro, Xcel, Cocher,
renfro Horn, and Moore, is plenty of talent for Bryce.

(17:54):
The young guys will develop at a rapid pace without THELAN,
as will Bryce without a security blanket. Wide receiver crew
will then be primed and ready for twenty twenty six.
Let's see here we have Pitch and Swing saying I
feel like we need need him to help develop our
young receiver receiver room develop I do think he's been
doing that a little bit. I don't know that you know,
Tetero McMillan, you know it necessarily needs Adam Thielen. Would

(18:18):
he benefit, sure, but I don't know that they're looking
at it that way. And he did have last year
in the same room with Excel, with Cocher and players
like that, So is he a benefit to a locker room.
There's no question. I don't know Adam Thielen well at all,
but I've talked to him a handful of times in
the locker room at practice. Easy to talk to. You
can see why his teammates like and respect him so much.

(18:40):
So he has a benefit to a locker room. I'm
with you on that, but I think business is business
in the NFL, and if the business is good enough,
Dan Morgan is willing to participate. Let me take a
phone call. Davery On is up first here on the show.
Devery On, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (18:53):
Man?

Speaker 2 (18:53):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Holding Oh, no problem, can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (18:57):
We got you.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
I was saying that Alan feeling He pretty good, but
his age is a problem. And Jalen Kocher, he's the
one ro wild receiver that messed up the whole the
whole group last year. You had an amazing season. You
know he was to me, he was the best received
on the team. I don't I don't see why. You
know his name is not actually phone up into that

(19:22):
that third you know, that third receiver group or whatever
how you gots call it. But I think he was
the best receiver on the team. And you can't deny him.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
All right, so you're willing to trade him? Yes, okay, okay,
all right, Well I appreciate the phone call. Man, Listen,
I know and I expected there would be people willing
to do that. And good business is good business. If
someone offers you with the Vikings offer not to be
redundant again. But if they come with a fourth round pick,
you're doing that deal. If you're Dan Morgan, I would

(19:52):
imagine that they would probably want like a seventh rounder
in return with it. And I don't know if you
do that. If Dan's willing to part with that, I
think you probably are to get the fourth back. Like
if if Minnesota says, hey, we'll give you a fourth,
we want Adam at a seventh you said earlier. They
don't have their fourth for the upcoming twenty twenty six draft,
but they have a conditional that could be a fourth
that they could offer. Well, it depends on Cam Robbins,

(20:13):
who they traded. Yeah, so it's one of those instances.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
And if Cam Robinson plays all the games, he's definitely
going to be a fourth round pick. And I also
don't know what their compic formula is because I only
pay attention, Kyle to the Compick formula for the Carolina Panthers,
and for the last six years the Compic formula has
been no picks for you by that time. So it
just depends on what the future is for the Compicks

(20:38):
and how much they gave up. And I would bet
that the Vikings would at least get some compensation because
of the deal that they got for Sam Donald's.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Sam Donald leaves he played a lot of snaps.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
He's probably going to play a lot of snaps since
he stays healthy for the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
That's going to be a for a round pick.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
And I don't know if anything can cancel that out
from what they did, So you have to imagine they
get a couple of picks from Compicks. But that's this
all season, and at that point, I mean, it's worth
nothing because Adam Feelin is probably retired.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Okay, Malvo says, if Bryce he called him Bruce Young,
are you doing that on purpose? Malvos says, if Bruce
Young is who the majority of y'all think he is,
then the team really doesn't need Adam Feeling. I think
you want Adam Thielen. I think they want Adam Thielen.
I don't think they think they necessarily need him, or
at least that they can't part ways with him for
the right price. So I think Malvo's technically right about that.

(21:27):
You want good players, you want veteran players. But if
Bryce Young is taking another step forward in year three, yeah,
in theory, he ought to be able to be able
to win games without thirty five year old Adam Feelin.
Matt and Greens brows up next on the phones. Matt
good timing, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Hey, guys?

Speaker 7 (21:43):
The only thing with Feeling, he's really our only sure thing.
I mean, I know these young guys. We hope they develop.
We hope Hetsel is better. You know, the rookie is good,
seems like he's okay, but he was only he is
that security blanket that price looks for. I guess if

(22:04):
he wasn't here, he would he would manage, and I guess.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
He did okay.

Speaker 7 (22:08):
You know, a couple of games he was out last season.
Coker kind of stepping up into that third down receiver role.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
So I don't know this Minnesota.

Speaker 7 (22:19):
I haven't looked at the roster. So they have a
linebacker or quarterback, David going to part with maybe because
I think we could probably use that help a little
more than what we need receiving from plan.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Yeah, Matt, I appreciate the phone call, buddy, Thank you
very much. We have by the way, the Vikings wide
receiver situation, they've got significant injury challenges. Justin Jefferson's coming
back from a hamstring. They expect him back in week one,
but it's a hammy. Jordan Addison suspended the first three games.
Rondale Moore's season injury ending knee injury in the preseason.
And we were wrong about him, weren't we. Oh, I

(22:54):
was excited about him. Yeah, I was really excited about
Rondale Moore coming out of Pitts or out of Purdue.
Pardon me. I thought he was going to be good.
Jalen Naylor hand injury. So yeah, they're short on wide
receivers up there. Smoke anything on the roster in Minnesota.
Tickle your fancy when it comes to linebacking corps and
linebacker cornered. I mean that's the thing is what do
you covet? And the answer is going to be different

(23:16):
depending upon who you ask, But you know, are you
hoping do you want a linebacker. Do you want a
cornerback in exchange in a potential deal like this? And
then you have to try to put yourself in the
shoes of the general manager. As we've been talking about,
they are hoping that some of these answers are on
the roster, but you know what's been their determination to
this point. How many answers on the roster have they found?
Carolina Chilly is up next, while we let Smoke take

(23:38):
a breath. Carolina Killy, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (23:41):
Yeah, I just wanted to chime in on the ceiling
trade possibility because I remember calling into this station the
day that Steve Smith was let go and almost being
in tears. And we're counting stories how I was in
New England when the Patriots played us the Super Bowl,
and if we were willing to let Steve Smith go

(24:07):
in order to help Cam be developed, I'm not gonna
shed a tear for a feeling being gone. But I'll
say this, if the only reason I would do it
is if it were the Vikings, if we just shipped
them away to go be with some random team, I
wouldn't do it, you know, even though it's a business,

(24:29):
but out of respect that would be. I mean that
would be perfect. That's the stars aligning.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
Okay, listen, I think your logic there is fine. I
also have to ask, because I just saw your text
from a couple of minutes ago. I do appreciate you
telling me that my hairline is not receding? Do you
actually think that? Are you just trying to make me
feel better?

Speaker 4 (24:49):
I only have the picture from the app, so I
don't know if it's an old one or a new one.
But I've always known throughout my life, like be careful
of the ball, old gas or the gas. It's I mean,
it's scientific, it's scientific. Ab So, I don't know if
you've got a start in fire already. I don't know.
I mean you close.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
No, I got three, I've got three, we got we
got a total of five right now. But I saw
the rest of your text. So you're saying, don't have
number four because it's gonna cut into the generational wealth
too much. Huh.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
I'm saying you better have a plan for some more money.
You can go get it. You can go get it,
But that means that would mean you gotta leave Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
No, I leave it, Charlotte. I appreciate you buddy, thank
you for the phone call. So if if he can,
if Steve Smith can leave, and he didn't shed a tear,
He's okay with letting Adam feeling go, I get it. Uh,
Panther Bow is up next. What's up? Bo mentioned Rondale Mordy,
We mentioned ron Dale Moore and here comes Panther bo
Boiler up baby.

Speaker 6 (25:47):
Hey, I love it. I love it. Boiler up man.
I just don't think I'm feeling like the narrative that
he's like just ready to go like play. For first
of all, it's not like J. J. McCarthy is some
elite former BIC ten quarterback, not like you know, Aidan
O'Connell for example. So I don't think I think they
he's he's he's got roots now here in Charlotte. I
don't think that he's just I think he believes in

(26:09):
Bryce Young. And I don't think we're gonna get anything worse.
I mean, they're not gonna they're not gonna swindle Minnesota
and and shipping away at and feel And that's just
what my take is. But uh, you know, I wanted
to say, first of all, congrats on you know, Friday
Night Lights with JJ I'll be listening. That's awesome. I
think that's gonna be a lot of fun. But I
wanted to throw that in there. But and also listen,

(26:32):
I know a lot of people are out on a
lot of things of the Panthers after watching some of these,
you know, preseason games. I mean, this is Dave really
kind of put himself out there for this one. I mean,
if he goes into Week one and we see an
egg laid like we did against the Saints last year,
he is gonna have to be eating. Uh, He's gonna
have to I mean it's gonna get a lot of
flak for that. So I don't know. I just think

(26:53):
that he knows what he's doing. Give him a little
bit of faith, and I get why people don't have
any faith because we've seen this team play. But at
the same time, man, we almost have football back. I mean,
I love the fact that we are so high on
this receiving court that we're just ready to go ahead
and ship away one of our best guys because that's
how much faith we have. But at the same time,
people don't think we have a playoffs fan. So it's

(27:16):
just kind of funny, Like I'm like a well, which
one is it?

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Yeah? No, I hear you bo right here in front
of you, buddy. I think the bottom line is there
are people who like me, like you, like Smoke, have
watched these preseason games and thought to yourself, Oh, that
defense might be slightly better, but they're still not deep.
And if you could take one of your wife, if
you could take a wide receiver surplus, and you believe
in your young guys enough that you could turn it
into maybe listen, that's the other thing we're talking a

(27:39):
lot about picks, Smoke. You looked at the roster. Is
there a Vikings player on the roster that you would
covet in exchange for a potential Adam delend deal? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (27:47):
I mean some of the linebackers like Andrew Van Ginkle
was pretty good last year from watching the Laniks played,
but like some when asked about him on the text line, well,
you're not going to get Via Ginkyle for Adam feelin right.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
It just isn't going to make sense.

Speaker 6 (27:56):
You know.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
It's kind of like trying to get an ace pitcher
while you give away of that are in DH at
the deadline, That stuff doesn't happen. No, you got to
be coming with a lot of prospects and a lot
of picks. It just look they could get the best
possible value you could get for Adam Feelin is an
early Day three pick. And it's not because Adam Field's
a bad player. It's just we all know that he's

(28:19):
done after this year. I mean, it's a mini miracle
that he's playing this year because he was so close
to the not hanging him up after last year. So
it's just one of those instances where the guy, it
just the stars aren't aligning to get a massive return
for Adam Feelin.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
Yeah, feels that way, all right, seven oh four five,
seven ninety six to ten. Hit us up on the
fan duel text line. Got to talk about MLB expansion rumors,
by the way to with Rob Manfred at the Little
League World Series Classic game a couple of days ago,
firing that conversation back up. I know it's been talked
about a bit today, but from the broadcast booth in

(28:56):
williams Port, PA, Rob Manfred, you know, fired up the
flames of expansion talk on Sunday night, saying that adding
two more teams would give the league an opportunity to
geographically realign and so now everybody's talking about geographic realignment
and expansion in Major League Baseball. And I know the
Athletic piece. I'm pretty sure it was the Athletic piece

(29:17):
that mentioned Salt Lake City and Nashville in particular, But
I know Fox Sports had one out yesterday that mentioned Charlotte.
And I don't know exactly why, but the potential reimagining
of Major League Baseball's division with thirty two teams a
la the NFL with eight divisions with four teams each
featured this one from Fox Sports had an AL Southeast

(29:37):
that featured AL Southeast by the Way, that featured the
Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, and a Charlotte franchise.
Oh God, Charlote being in the same division as the
phrase Dear God help me. Did you look at this
by the way yesterday?

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (29:51):
I did. It is interesting, like I don't believe a
word of it, because there's been absolutely not a peep
from anybody in Charlotte outside of Tom Dundan, who just
bought the Portland Trailblazers a couple days ago, that I'm
aware of, that is making any sort of grassroots push
to get a baseball team here right now. I would
love it, and I would love to be a part
of it to make that push. But like, I've not
heard of anybody. So this look from Fox Sports in particular, though,

(30:14):
has a potential Charlotte franchise in the American League Southeast
with the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Marlins, and the Tampa
Bay Rays. As I scan it, I see the Braves,
the Nats, the Pirates, Phillies, and Mets all moving to
the American League. I think that's the comprehensive list. And
then we had teams like what the Oakland As, Seattle Mariners, Angels, Royals,

(30:44):
and whites Socks not white SOCKX. What am I thinking? Yeah?
So I think what eight teams flipping from NL to
AL or AL to NL to create these eight four
team divisions? But yeah, for some mean it's got Charlotte
in Portland as oddly enough as the two expansion franchises
in this Fox Sports hypothetical piece from yesterday in Nashville.

(31:05):
Huh No, Nashville. I mean it's funny because one article
mentioned Salt Lake City and Nashville the Fox Sports piece
that I'm looking at, So Nope, Charlotte and Portland as
potential MLB expansion markets.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
And again, Baltimore was the favorite to Windy expansion race
in nineteen ninety three for the NFL, but they lost
out to both Jacksonville and Charlotte. So you never know.
Sometimes A plus and plus we're not even in the
beginning stages of this, you.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Know, well, I might be further along than we. You're
talking about Charlotte specifically, right well, just in general with
the expansion talks, like they haven't gotten it real serious,
like they're talking about it. But I will say it's
going to start sooner because I believe in September they're
going to announce that Tampa Bay, the new ownership that
they're getting is going to keep the team, and Tampa
they're going to finally get that new stadium built and

(31:50):
up and running. And then I mean.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
I guess the A's are officially moving to Las Vegas.
They broke ground on the stadium, but you never know sometimes, Sure,
but it sounds like the A situation's almost done. So sure,
both of those are pretty much almost in the back
real quick.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
Hurricane Insurance says, Oh, we're pretending that Charlotte should have
a major League baseball team today again, are we Well,
we're not pretending Fox Sports is. I guess I am too,
because I think you're crazy that Charlotte is in fact
ready for that. But in this particular Fox Sports piece,
it mentions that the Braves' divisional rivalry, we'd lose it
with the Mets, but it does create an opportunity for

(32:26):
Atlanta and the new squad Charlotte to come to blows
giving their relative proximity, also pointing out that the drive
from Charlotte to Atlanta actually takes the same amount of
time as a trip from Saint Petersburg to Miami, and
then says Florida is a long state, folks, So not
a lot of detail there. But Charlotte was the proposed
team in realignment in the Al Southeast. We'll come back

(32:47):
to it right now. We go to smoke on the headlines.
What's going on? Computer? Locked up on you?

Speaker 1 (32:57):
Smoke?

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Where is smoke? Where there's smoke, there's fire. Let's go jarring,
all right? What you got over there?

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Yeah, sometimes the buttons don't respond to when you press them.
All right, Well, we're talking about trades for the Carolina Panthers. Well,
this is interesting. The Bengals guard Cordell Volson, who has
started forty eight games over the last three years, will
likely miss the entire twenty twenty five season with a
shoulder injury that require surgery.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Kyle Smoke, this might sound like something where.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Carolina could get into trade because they actually have somewhat
of a surplus at guard.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
No, no, no, no, you want to trade away a
wide receiver. I could understand that. You really what you're
trying to find out if your third year number one
overall pick quarterback has it or not. I don't know
how you go trading away offensive line depth.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
What are they gonna like. Let's say it's Pratdy Christensen
because he's back on a one year deal.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
I would rather them get outscored in in shootouts every
week and protect Bryce Young and go about and knowing
that that kid can play and go fix the offense
next offseason. Then start trading away offensive line depth. Piece
as somebody gets hurt and this devolves into an absolute disaster.
What if they give you a four round pick. I
don't it's a one year deal for Bratdy Christian. You

(34:12):
know what? Y'all weigh in on this smoke says that
it might be an opportunity Cincinnati. There's lots of guard
injuries around the NFL right now, trading away a backup
a Brady Christensen, Yeah, because you still have Kde Mays
and Chandlers of all life. I don't know. I'd love
to know what folks think about that. Sports Radio ninety
two seven wfn Z, Well, this is one of those

(34:41):
days that apparently the buttons don't work. I'm gonna blame
preemptively Fitty and Flounder for this. Apparently they combined dozen
donuts in fifteen minutes together over somewhere in this room.
So I'm going to assume that it's a donut glaze
that's making these buttons stick right now. But we have
a little bit of a technical issue right now that
will not allow us to go to break. So we're
going to keep it right here until our systems figure

(35:03):
themselves out. Chad in Greenville text again on the FanDuel
text line, says, what did I miss about trading away
Adam Thielen Because we are offensive Juggernauts and scored at
will this preseason. Yeah. Mike Florio among others floating the
possibility and I think it's more than a possibility that
Minnesota the Vikings go looking for wide receiver help because

(35:24):
they've got injuries everywhere. Jordan Addison is missing games to
start the season because of a suspension, Rondale Moore's already
done for the year, and Justin Jefferson's nursing a hamstring injury.
So Florio floating the theeling possibility. I saw two or
three others discussing it, and I think there's real interest there.
And I think that the Panthers would be willing to
do the right deal, but that they are not inclined

(35:46):
to give Adam thielin away right now. Minnesota knock their
socks off with a fourth or fifth round pick, you know,
they might be willing to do it. I still wonder
if that's if you can do that and not get
a player in return, given that you'd be, you know,
allowing a wide receiver that you do like for this
season to walk away and not getting help elsewhere and
either let's say, linebacker or the cornerback position. So if

(36:09):
you're just tuning in, you did miss that conversation. Now
we're also coming off the baseball conversation, so let me
get to a couple of those texts really quickly. Zero
expectations is why do geographic realignment when we already play
three game series? What are the benefits? I'll be honest
with you, I haven't studied it that much. I haven't
thought about it in terms of the benefits for the teams.

(36:30):
You know, you're saying we already play three game series.
I'd imagine there's an entirely or an entire restructuring and
reformatting of the schedule. As Smoke and I talked about
the other day, I think that you would probably at
least reduce interleague play. I'd like to see it go
away personally in the regular season, but you know, maybe
you shrink it back down. You would certainly allow for

(36:51):
you know, more games in time zones that don't require
East Coast teams and fan bases to stay up until
well past midnight to watch games on the West Coast.
You'd still gets some of that, but not as much.
We have Texters writing in here as well. Mountain Max says,
is the Carolina Lumberjacks a good MLB name, or Carolina
Pines would be a good name as well. That is

(37:11):
a tried and true tradition on this show naming a
potential MLB team in Charlotte. I've often gone with the
Monarchs myself, but you know, some people love it, some
people hate it. Whatever. Do I like Lumberjacks? Yeah? Do
I like Pines? I do? I think Pines is probably
my least favorite. I'm being honest. Malvo says, since Tom
Dundon just dropped four billion on the Trailblazers, would Major

(37:33):
League Baseball let him drop another, however much, to start
an MLB team as well, or would he have to
be a part of a financial team. Well, that was
what was a little bit unclear. I guess Swim was
that was that earlier? It was late last week. I
guess there were no reports last week when the initial
headlines about Tom Dundon came out buying the Portland trail Blazers.
You know, it was just his name mentioned. We talked

(37:55):
to Luke to Cock. I guess that was Thursday actually,
and Luke seemed to think pretty wrongly, pretty clearly, that
this would be an ownership group in Portland with the Blazers.
I don't know what Tom Dundan's net worth is, but
I did google it that day and it's reportedly somewhere
in the two billion dollar range. Now keep in mind,
like MJ bought the Bobcats, since that's a topical conversation

(38:16):
today and yesterday MJ bought the Bobcats. What was it
back in twenty ten, twenty eleven, March of twenty ten. Yeah,
and he put like I think he paid two to
seventy five three hundred million for the team. Then he
only put down like ten percent cash. So you know
you're not paying cash for a team, right, like you're
walking out of seven eleven. But you know, he bought
a four billion dollar basketball franchise after already owning a

(38:37):
hockey franchise. So it did beg the question, all right,
how spread thin is he? Could he do more? More specifically,
does this mean the end of his pursuit of a
baseball team in North Carolina? Some people think yes, and
at least for now for a good long while others
say no. You know, Luke seemed to think it wasn't
completely prohibitive because of the ownership group in Portland. So

(38:59):
we'll see. We've reached out to Tom. I texted Tom
that day. He's always been great to our show. He
couldn't come on. He's not doing interviews right now. Hopefully
at some point he can come back on and talk
about this. But the last time we had Tom on
was October twenty twenty three, specifically about bringing baseball to
North Carolina. So I wouldn't be shocked if he's still
in on it, but I don't know the answer today.

(39:20):
Kenneth and Bristol is up next on the phone lines. Kenneth,
what's going on, brother? How are you?

Speaker 6 (39:25):
I'm good, buddy.

Speaker 8 (39:25):
Let me tell you what I think about trading players.
If Adam wanted to go back to Minnesota, I'm alright
with that, you know what I'm saying. Sure, there's a
special situation there, and I understand that he still got.

Speaker 6 (39:38):
A gym up there.

Speaker 8 (39:40):
I'm sure he still has a home up.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
There, and he loves it up there. He likes it
up there.

Speaker 5 (39:44):
There's just a right.

Speaker 8 (39:45):
But I doubt seriously Adam would be willing to go
anywhere else. And unless he just wants to be out,
I just wouldn't trade him to any willy nilly team.

Speaker 6 (39:55):
Just get new and that's to Ruster. Doctor.

Speaker 8 (39:57):
Yeah, I agree now about offensive lineman. No, and I'm
I'm gonna explain briefly why I've seen the Panthers since
ninety four, and I've seen that more times than not.
You're going to have once an injury start, it's like
a floodgate and it happens. Corbett's gotten the issues. Uh,

(40:19):
Motoron's gotten the issues. Chenna Savalas or not Channa, Damian Lewis,
I's already missed time in pre season over injury issues.
I would uh Cade Mays and Brady Christensen both can
play all five positions. The other two are If I'm
want to trade any of the lineman, it's going to

(40:39):
be a guy who only plays guard or only plays tackle,
something in that range. But I would prefer not to
trade anybody, not to trade any offensive lineman unless somebody
team wants to say, well, I'll give you a first
round pick or a second round pick.

Speaker 6 (40:55):
Now I might entertain that.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
Well, you and I both, Oh, that's not happened, right right,
That ain't gonna happen. So okay, So so would you
would you deal a guy a guard?

Speaker 8 (41:08):
Yes, I would, because he's a he's a guard. You're
going to have it's a no offense. And shout out
to Cole my buddy who's a who's a stay fan
but chera Savala just plays guard.

Speaker 6 (41:22):
That's all.

Speaker 8 (41:23):
We can have a guard setting on the practice squad
that's in still in that position.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
Sure, yeah, I appreciate you, buddy. Did you take in
the Braves Reds game up there by the way, No.

Speaker 8 (41:35):
I came to fan Fest. That was the same day
I would have if I went to fans But I
went down there and I attended fan Theft that weekend.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Ah, that day, I got you.

Speaker 8 (41:44):
I was surely back for that day because they delayed
it till still and by then, by then I didn't
want to go to it because I just spent all
week and away from home.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
So awesome. Great to hear from you, buddy. Glad to
hear you doing well. Kenneth and Bristol checking it says
he's only trading an offensive offensive lineman that only plays
one position, not a not a swing player, not someone
who's utility who plays multiple spots like Brady Christensen, like
Kate Mays too, and that's a better argument. I think
I'm just very very very hesitant to go moving any

(42:15):
offensive lineman, and I think we all understand why. I mean,
smoke you looked a little bewildered by the fact that
I shut it down right away. I'm sorry about my
because there's more depth there, and I think you could
fetch something pretty good for Brady Christensen, maybe round four,
round pick. And if do you just want picks or
you're trying to get a player back at this stage,
I'm thinking picks really, yeah, unless I don't know exactly

(42:40):
what type of player you'd want, so I don't know
what And plus the Bengals specifically, I'm not really asking
for a defensive player right now. That was good. Do
you want a Bengals defensive player right now?

Speaker 3 (42:49):
No, it's bottom of the barrel defensively for both squads
right now.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
Buckle up, says Robert Hunt. Just plays guard. No, no
starters are off the table, all right off the table, TC,
says KB. What do you think Jason Williams thinks about
a potential trade with feeling Jason Williams, What are we
talking about here? Oh? Jay? Will Jay? We talking about
white chocolate or talking about the Duke legend? Are we

(43:17):
still unable to go to break right now? By the way, Yeah, yeah,
the whole system crash, didn't it? It did so we're
just stuck on the air for the foreseeable future.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Yeah, I can still there's still a way for me
to play Top of the Hours. But yeah, I've never
had this happen before. I've never had this happen.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Either, y'all. We're actually stuck on the air right now.
We literally like we're almost filibustering involuntarily right now on
the radio because we can't go to break. Hopefully don't
have to do it for eight hours. I've never experienced
this before in my entire life. We are beholding to
the microphone until our systems are back up and running,
and I think that's controlled somewhere hundreds, if not thousands
of miles from here, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, because

(43:56):
i've seen some of our people across or running across.
The people are panic. Yeah, people are paniccating. Yeah, there's
a state of emergency inside of our building right now.
So we are on the air with you until we're not. Yeah,
this is North Star Race fans and NASCAR rain delay. Yeah,
Baseball rain delay too, the same kind of thing. Well,
lest they can actually go to break, we can't go

(44:17):
to break. We can't go to bright that's true. Uh,
seven oh four five seven ninety six to ten. Seven
o four numbers said, you got a pee? I don't yet,
but if this continues, we may have may have an
issue on our I was going to say, you have
that corner, I have this corner. No, no, no, no,
We'll go to the bathroom and shifts if we need to.
Panther Bo said this is awesome. Seven oh four numbers

(44:37):
said love it. No commercials. Yeah, this is a different sensation. Typically,
I'm like, hey, let's make sure that we get to
break on time so that we have full segments and
we're where we're supposed to be, and now it's just
a complete and total free for all kind of just
like a regular podcast.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
I'm going to say, the only break we have now
are to top of the hours that we have to run. Yeah,
so see you let me press it one more time. Yeah,
still no, go no no.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Nick the Amazon driver said, whoo KB and smoke till
ten pm tonight. That ain't happening. Oh dear god. No,
We'll just replay Mack and Bone twice over and then
go home. That's what we'll do. We'll just replay Mack
and Bone from six to ten, then ten to two
am and then two to six again until they get
back in and start their new show tomorrow. How about that,
We've got twelve straight hours of Mac and Bone from
six to six. All right. So somebody said, well, what

(45:21):
do you want to talk about? You know what I
want to I want to mock Jay Williams again, real quick.
I really do. I have never harbored any hatred in
my heart for Jay Williams. I don't know him like that.
And if you missed the five o'clock or if you
were here for the five o'clock hour rather yesterday, you
heard us talk about this, and everybody's talked about it
today since. But I want to bring it back really,
really quickly because I still am in awe that he

(45:43):
recorded this video so dramatically, so confidently, and I got
to be honest, so arrogantly, and then apparently looked at
it again and said, yep, this is the one and
pressed upload. Here is Jay Williams, former Duke Star, first
round NBA Draft? Was this his podcast or was his
sports key to? I don't even know what this is from.

(46:04):
I believe it was sports. That's what I thought too.
All right, So he records this video where he's arguing
that Michael Jordan was in fact a very good NBA owner.

Speaker 9 (46:14):
They said my goat was a horrible owner, that he
couldn't build a winner, that the Hornets never made a
deep playoff run, that Charlotte was a failure. Let's actually
dig into the numbers. In twenty ten, he buys the Bobcats.
The Bobcats for two hundred and seventy five million. They're
bleeding thirty million a year, small market trash attendance, no

(46:35):
brand equity, no playoff pedigree. But Jordan wasn't buying rings.
He was buying position. He turned a twenty five to
thirty million personal investment into a three billion dollar sale.
That's a ten x return, over two billion in realized profit.
It just ran laps around most PE firms. And what
most people don't get, most NBA teams aren't in the green.

(47:00):
At least fifteen to eighteen franchises operate at losses every year.

Speaker 2 (47:05):
Why Jay, Well, why does this happen?

Speaker 9 (47:07):
Because when you stack superstars, you don't just pay salaries.
You trigger luxury tacks, You fund charter upgrades, increase security,
private chef's twenty four to seven medical staff authorized travel, housing, stipends.
All that comes with something we call capital calls. And
every round of the playoffs you don't win. That's red
ink with no offset. So while you're laughing at Charlotte

(47:31):
missing the playoffs, Jordan was the only one in the
room not wiring in more capital.

Speaker 2 (47:38):
All right, that was the first half of it, and
I should have just gone ahead and played the whole thing,
but I had smoke cut it in half yesterday. So
let's all take a breath. Okay, you have to endure
just a little bit more. Here's the final ninety seconds
of this take.

Speaker 9 (47:53):
He never cracked the luxury tax, not even once. He
kept costs lean. He ran even the positive and by
twenty twenty two, Charlotte pulled ninety four million in operating profit.
That's more margin than the Lakers and Nets posted combined.
You still call that mediocrity. The market calls it mastery.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
He didn't just flip the team.

Speaker 9 (48:17):
He revived it, rebranded to the Hornets, triple mert sales,
