Speaker 2 (00:20):
Here we go.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Cutdown Day is here and your Carolina Panthers are down
to fifty three. They're making headlines. Veterans are out a
defensive tackle, Shy Tuttle's gone, Raheem Blackshear's gone. Oh but
the latest breaking news, Hunter Renfro did not make the
fifty three man roster, while guys like rookie corner Corey
Thornton survived the cuts and looks at to be a

(00:42):
part of this roster. The front office making some tough decisions,
and with Carolina sitting high in waiver priority, you can
bet this depth charge we'll still look different forty eight
hours from now. Meanwhile, not just the NFL making news,
college football is back into Carolinas and as you know
by now, Week one is loaded in particulo killer here
in North Carolina. The Heels opening up with TCU in

(01:03):
a Monday night primetime clash. We'll talk all about that
as Chapel Bill debuts under the lights. NC State welcoming
ECU on a Thursday, Duke and Elon and of course
right here at home Charlotte battling app State in the
Duke's Mayo Classic and in State Showdown to set the
tone for the forty nine er season.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
And now, of course the rumor mill remaining hot.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Adam Thielen and the Vikings talks are real money's to
hang up, but both sides have danced and while Minnesota
wants help, while Jordan Addison is out and Adam Thielen
would reportedly like a reunion. Oh and breaking pop football
crossover news, Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift are officially engaged today.
Not that I really care that much, but I told
you the day they went public they'd end up hitched.

(01:47):
Put it on the board for KB. Buckle up, phone
lines open, I've got receipts, and we are live here
on a Tuesday afternoon from the Chandler Volta Studios.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
One call.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
That's all the Carolina's personal injury lawyers. Go to CV
Injury Law dot com and check them out, KB and
smoke with you back together again, Nick Carboni, NBC Charlotte
coming up in forty three minutes. The pastor of Payinn,
Corey Miller, is back at four twenty five. Now, in
case you were wondering, Ryan McGee ESPN is going to
be our regular Tuesday four to twenty five conversation, but

(02:19):
he's out this week. The pastor's filling in and he
and I clashed this week his game cocks My Hokies
in Atlanta. We'll talk about it all at four twenty five,
and then Danny Canell, former Florida State New York Giants quarterbacks,
CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network College football analyst Danny
Canell is back at five o'clock. We are loaded. We

(02:39):
are taking your phone calls. I am pressing the button.
Phone lines open officially on this Tuesday, seven oh four five,
seven oh ninety six ten.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Hit us up.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
I want to take a lot of phone calls today,
and I want to know what you think about all this,
especially the news that came down right before the start
of the show that Clemson Tiger legend and uh, you
know a guy that was very popular among the fan
base and still is given the reaction online. You got

(03:09):
Hunter Renfro missing the fifty three man roster, but David
Moore makes it David Moore is on the fifty three.
Hunter Renfro is not Bryce. So they kept seven wide receivers.
That part we got right. We thought they'd keep seven.
They kept seven. But instead of keeping David Moore and
Hunter Renfro, they keep David Moore and Bryce and Tremaine
and Hudder. Renfro has been let go.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Now. I do want to point out.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I do want to point out he's a vested veteran,
so he's been around long enough. He's not going to
the waiver wire. Carolina could in theory sign him right back.
All right, this has happened before, right, So just let's
all relax on this just a little bit smoke. Remind
me Jalen Cocher last year that he missed the initial
fifty three. I believe that was right, didn't he? Y?
They put him on the practice, Hey brought him back.
Now he's a little bit different as you DFA, but

(03:55):
there are things that can be done here. So let's
all relax for a second. And especially if you still
believe that the Panthers and the Vikings are set to
make a trade for Adam Thielen, don't freak out just yet.
Now this could be the end of Hunter Renfro with
the Carolina Panthers could be all right. I'm not making
anybody any promises, but we are still awaiting the outcome,

(04:16):
I guess of the Carolina and Minnesota discussions over a
potential feeling trade Adam Schefter, who I'm pretty sure is
just regurgitating what Adam Thielen's agent and what Minnesota is saying.
On the one side, I've been fairly annoyed by Adam
Schefter's reporting the last couple of days. Not that he cares,
but it's it's been annoying. They're also Ricky Scoops, you know,

(04:38):
a guy who online low key gets a lot of
NFL breaking news right the last several minutes, claiming that
this is still going on, but that it's stalled because
the Panthers aren't budging on trade compensation, nor should they,
by the way. I'm fine with that. I have no
problem with that whatsoever. But if they do end up
trading Adam Thielen, there's still a world in which Hunter
Renfro ends up on this roster. So I just want

(04:58):
to find I want to wait and see what happens,
but I do want to know how many people are
just irate at Hunter Renfro not making the fifty three
man roster because there seemed to be seems to be
a lot of you out there that are incredibly upset. Smoke,
what do you think about Renfro not making the fifty
three David Moore, Bryceon tremain making it. Let me also

(05:20):
throw out they're keeping four tight ends as of right now.
James Mitchell made the fifty three man roster earlier today too.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, and that includes Mitchell Evans.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
So I believe as of right now, no draft pick
got cut from this past year for Carolina because last
year they traded Michael Barrett. Wait now I'm getting confused
with the defense been they traded the They traded Michael
Barrett the linebacker for Mike Jack and Seattle. I was
taking Michael Bennet. Yeah yeah, yeah, yea yeah yeah. But
so that was the only guy that got cut last year.

(05:47):
But yeah, so they kept everyone that was a part
of their draft class this year, and they got a
couple of standouts. I think what did Hunter Renfro in
was the fact that he had a hamstring problem those
two weeks that he was out. I think really or
a week and a half that he was out really
killed his chances of making it fifty three because hurt
what happened, Bryce and Tremaine made play after play after

(06:08):
play after play, especially when it came to joint practice, and.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
He's bigger and younger, and he played special.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Teams exactly, and I think between that Hunter Renfro not playing,
Hunter Renfro's passed injury history, the fact that he's trying
to make a comeback, I think that's what did him in.
And then you have to battle the guys of David Moore,
who can do a lot of the same things that
Hunter Renfro can do, maybe not as well as Hunter
Renfro when he's healthy, but David Moore has one of
the things that coaches love most availability, and he also

(06:35):
knows the system of Dave Canalis. And I just think
that handing injury screwed up the chances of Hunter Renfro
to get on the act of roster well.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
And if you go back to those conversations when it
happened and to the point you're bringing up here, remember
when Dave was asked about the extent of the injury
and he said that he had asked Hunter earlier in
the day, Hey, if this was a game day, if
this was a game week, could you go? And Hunter said,
yet it was this whole exchange and people heard that
and said, oh man, it sounds like he's on the
roster already.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
And I thought he was going to make the roster.
I did. But you're absolutely right.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
The best ability is availability, and that always always always
rings true. Now, you could point to J. C. Horn
the press conference, and I think it was the Kay
Adams interview specifically where he said that Hunter Renfro was
unguardable out there, uncoverable out there. When Hunter was playing,
he had a good camp. But a Texter here. I
think it was Tate or was it Tater? Somebody tell

(07:27):
I hope it's Tater. It was Tate from Wesley Chapel said, KB.
To be fair, we did see him play later and
later into the preseason games. We could see it coming
to a degree. Just wasn't sure. That is where it
started to change for me and a few others, or
at least made us wonder, Okay, like, what is the
situation here? If Bryson Tremaine is sitting out, you're either
hiding him from teams because you hope that he makes

(07:49):
it back to your practice squad. But if you like
him that much that you're going to the links that
you feel like you need to hide him, you're probably
just going to keep him on the fifty three man roster.
So then it was like, okay, are you keeping Hunter
Renfro or David Moore? And we have learned once again
that Dave Canalis has a very real loyalty. It's a
wide receiver, David Moore. Now I like David Moore. I've
said this before. I'm not bashful about it. I like him.

(08:11):
If I needed a wide receiver on my team, and
especially if I was shorthanded, I'm signing David Moore personally.
I like him, But I thought they were going to
keep Renfro and I probably would have kept Renfro over
David Moore. What happens in Minnesota signs him, which you know,
seems very possible today given the fac Like if you're
Minnesota right now and you're looking at Carolina, like, oh,
you want a third for a thirty five year old

(08:32):
soon to be retired wide receiver, you expect us to
give you a third for this guy? You even probably
don't even want to give him a fourth in Minnesota
if they don't have to write. So if you see
they just let go of Hunter renfro in you'r Minnesota,
does that tickle your fancy you're doing that maybe?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
I mean that's why.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Adam Scheffer also mentioned kJ Osborne two, who got cut
by the Washington Commanders when he was on the Pat
McFee show when he was regurgitating what the Minnesota Vikings
wanted to have anually. Now they're trying to say, hey,
we can do this offer. You know, we could play
ball or we could just go somewhere else. That's essentially
with the Vikings are trying to tell Dan Morgan right now,
and they're trying to get him to lower the price.

(09:10):
So that's the main talking point. But I don't think
it's going to happen within the context of this show, Kyle,
because guess who's out at practice right now, Adam Feelin
Cassidy Hill literally tweeted a photo of him smiling in
the middle of the field.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Really, yes, I just that whole thing, man, I have
Can I also tell you that watching this unfold online
the last couple of days has has birthed in me
a disdain from Minnesota Vikings fans that I didn't know
I had. I have never thought any ill feelings towards
Minnesota Vikings fans, But those guys get a taste of

(09:47):
success up there, and they act like they're the Green
Bay Packers, Like they act like they're the New England Patriots.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
I don't know what this is, but like they have
watching that.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Fan base interact with the Panthers fan base, I suddenly
disliked the Viking fan base just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I gotta be honest about that.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Have you seen this, No, Like they think it's wild,
you know, talking down to Panthers fans about the feeling
trade and you know you're not getting more than a
sixth or a seventh. Your team sucks, We're gonna fleece you.
And some of this is just regular NFL fan banter.
I get that, But like I've watched some of this
and I'm like, man, I suddenly disliked the Vikings I
think for the first time ever, and I'm not sure
this is going to go away anytime soon.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Well, you got to remember this as one of their own. Literally, Yeah, no,
I know they're defensive, I get it, So you know,
he's a Minnesota boy. He's a Minnesotan from Minezulta. But
I get that. Plus it's internet chatter, so that all
has to do with it. But I know they haven't
won a Super Bowl, but Kyle, they are one of
the most successful franchises when it comes to winning percentage,

(10:44):
so they also have that going in their way too.
How many years have they been outright just terrible in
your life Minnesota? Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Exactly.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Plus you're taking out their anger because the Minnesota Twins
are a complete dumpster fire right now. They traded everyone
away and the owners are still staying in Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
So nasty people.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah, I mean I thought up there in the in
the you know, upper Midwest, they were supposed to be
all don't you know, and you know, nice Midwesterners, and
they're kind of nasty.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
I'm atting Fargo. You saw what happened to step the city.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
All right?

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Seven oh four five seven ninety six ten, AJ says LMAO.
I told y'all Renfro wouldn't make the squad if we
were serious about football. One on ones isn't the same
as primetime. Yeah, but listen, listen to what JC said.
Hunter Renfro can still play. I believe that, I really do.
But the injury stuff, I agree with Smoke. The injury

(11:40):
stuff really didn't help his cause. If you're coming out
of a if you're trying to come back from not
just retirement but health issues and retirement, you got to
prove that you can stay healthy and stay on the field.
And he couldn't do that during camp, and so now
you know he is where he is. But I stand
by what I said a minute ago. If somehow Minnesota

(12:03):
and Carolina do work a deal for Adam Thielen, I
don't think it's over. If you're a diehard Renfro guy,
like a Texter A couple of minutes back told me,
and he's right about this, Carolina Gator said. Renfro has
insinuated that he doesn't want to go anywhere else. That's
part of the reason that he tried to come back
with the Panthers. He did. I talked to Hunter Renfro.

(12:24):
I guess that was two weeks ago. You know, I
thoroughly enjoyed sitting down with Hunter. We on the air
and off the air. We had some great conversations. He
and I a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I believe.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
I did somebody else asking, didn't he only want to
play with the Panthers. Yeah, pretty much like I think
he could be convinced. If he's back out there playing
and he's got the bug to play football again, I
think he could be convinced to play somewhere else. Now
that somewhere else might not be halfway or most of
the way across the country. It might need to be
on the East Coast, it might need to be with
the Falcons, or the Commanders are somewhere close enough to

(12:59):
Myrtle Beach where he's still close by his family because
he does have another child on the way, which complicates things.
We all know his dads and moms out there, but
it does make for an interesant That's why I keep saying,
if a Feeling deal gets done, I don't think the
renfro thing is over just yet. But you're saying they're
posting a picture of Feeling on the practice field today
with the Panthers, which really isn't a surprise because.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Well, not the Panthers Twitter account, but it is Cassidio
who works with the Carol.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
It doesn't matter she works. She works for the Panthers
dot com. She's posting a picture of Feeling on the
practice field today and he's all smiles. Adam Feeling is
not desperate to get out of Carolina. I've had people
reach out to me from multiple markets the last couple
of days to ask me what I think about this,
Theling situation, and I tell them all the same thing.
I don't know. I know Carolina's asking price is high.

(13:45):
I talked to multiple people about this last week. They
absolutely do not feel any inclination to get rid of
Adam Thielen except for the right price. They like him.
They believe he's good for Bryce, He's good for the
locker room. Adam Thielen's family likes it here. He said
he came back for another season in large part because
of his belief in Bryce Young. Adam feel is not
upset about being here now. If you told him you

(14:07):
could go home and finish your career in the place
that you were born and raised with the team that
you know that took you and developed you, and you
could do with that, I'm sure he'd be completely happy
and fine with that. But he is not upset about
playing here in any way, shape or form, and Dan
Morgan is not giving him away, Like I hope Dan
doesn't give me a reason to have to walk this
back at the end of the show today. But so

(14:28):
far I applaud Dan Morgan for keeping his heels in
the dirt and not budging on his asking price, because
he shouldn't budge on the asking price for Adam Thielen.
He's beneficial to this football team. He can help this team,
as we've seen in a very real way. So if
Minnesota wants him bad enough, put a third rounder on
the table, or maybe even a fourth and a starting

(14:49):
defensive player, or shut up and go hit the market
and talk to somebody else that would. I hope that
continues to be Dan Morgan's stance as he speaks.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
To you know, to the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
And I'll so think that this could not you know,
I think that they won't also have this discussion of Hey,
if things go downhill fast, we don't necessarily close the door.
Not that Carolina wants it to or Dan Morgan wants
it to, but hey, I also think that they'll keep
the door open just in case things don't go well
here to start out this year, and say, hey, you know,
all right, we'll give you Adam Field. Now, what are

(15:20):
you asking for at this point? I think that could
be part of it too, or maybe they trade him
away at the deadline, Kyle, because tedor Or McMillan, Jalen Cocher,
and Xavier Leaguet actually start out so well to the
point that.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
They don't really need Adam.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Feeling that could still be in play later on in
the season, but I think for the here now, unless
as you said, they get blown away with a third
round pick.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Dan Morgan ain't budget. I hope he doesn't. Seven oh
four five, seven ninety six ten. Hit us up on
the FanDuel text line. The text line is absolutely humming
right now. Charlotte Bourne Gj's laughing at me calling Minnesota
Vikings fans nasty people. I mean, listen, I don't want
to make it personal, but I've seen a bunch of
them online and I'm like, I want to fight all
of you, as you're really obnoxious right now, pretending that

(16:02):
you're the Green Bay Packers or the Patriots or the
mid nineties Cowboys. You've won nothing Narius super Bowl ever,
just like the Carolina Panthers. Shut up we're on the
same rung of the NFL ladder here. You've been inched
at this since the Anthony Edwards working a year ten.
Oh yes, I have those people piss me off during
the Anthony Edwards LaMelo Ball conversation.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
So you know, I've I let it slide.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
They'd had some built in and built up nice guy
equity with me for a long time, but they've used
it all up at this point. All right, phone line
starting to hum seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety
six ten, Hit us up. I'm gonna take some phone
calls coming up in the next segment. I want to
know what you think about the cutdown to fifty three
men on the roster and you know who they captain

(16:43):
who they didn't. David Moore still on this team, is
on the fifty three man roster. Bryce and Tremaine made
the fifty three man roster. Bam Martin Scott set Gamecocks
another game Cock making the fifty three man roster.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Not gonna help with the Gamecock buys here in Mega
of America state, probably not, you know.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
And speaking of you know my guy, the hokey James Mitchell,
the tight end who I was sure was like have
first round talent before he got hurt in his last
year in Blacksburg and ended up leaving when Justin Fwinte
got fired. Like I was sure of it that James
Mitchell was going to be like the focal point of
the offense and he was going to be a first
rounder and he came in as a little bit of

(17:20):
a long shot to make this roster, but he did today,
So at least for now. Again, next forty eight hours,
nothing set in stone. Things could change. And oh, by
the way, we haven't even allowed for the possibility, you know,
as we're kind of all over the place here, we
haven't even really allowed for the possibility yet. Smoked that
Hunter Renfro could make the practice squad, Like Hunter Renfro
could still end up on the Panthers' practice squad if
nobody else signs him, just like Jalen Coker did last year.

(17:42):
It is possible lots of ways this could go. If
you're part of Renfro nation, do not despair, not yet. Anyway,
We'll talk about it all next and again I called it.
I told you, I told you I'm not a swiftye.
I don't know her music. That podcast episode was the
first time I'd ever heard the woman speak for any
length of time. But I told y'all she was Mary
and Travis Kelsey. We'll talk about it. Sports Radio ninety

(18:04):
two seven wf and Z. Sports Radio ninety two seven
wfn Z. Shout out, Scott gottlieb Our guy walking down
the hall there. I just want to get Scott's attention.

(18:26):
He works in digital, he works in sales. He's a
brilliant guy. He's a poker player. And I don't think
he heard a word I just said walking down the hallway.
So sometimes I think we're like animals in a zoo
exhibit in this this studio. But other times I realize
that nobody's paying attention to us in our own building.
Walking down the hallway, john Way, we are really, we
are really zoo creatures in a zoo exhibit. Now, because

(18:46):
oh yeah, can I tell y'all almost didn't make the
last two shows. They have increased security in our building. Hey, Scott,
they've increased security in our building. He did hear me,
after all, And now we have to scan our key
cards to get into our studio. Nobody told me that yesterday,
and I just went, like Kramer busted trying to bust
through the double glass doors like I always do. And

(19:08):
I smashed my face trying to walk into the studio
yesterday and then did it again today, not twenty seven
minutes ago, trying to walk back into the studio. I
swear to you, I'm not This is not hyperbole. I
think somebody's gonna break their nose in the next couple
of days before we all get used to having to
scan our key cards because our studio doors are now
locked for security reasons.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Inside the building, it's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
Well, you can blame yesterday on me because I could
easily text you to you, Hey, Q, put up the system.
Now we actually have to use our key cards. But
I decided now I'm gonna do it for the last.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Was the other thing.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Q found out what happened to me and was laughing
at me down the hallway. Our guy Q, who runs
the building, He's like cackling at me because I walked
face first into the door. So anyway, uh, that's my
rant seven oh four five seven ninety six ten hit
us up on the FanDuel text line. The Panthers have
cut the roster down to fifty three as they were
supposed to today. They did not do what the Ravens did.
By the way, and the raven has brought seventy five

(20:01):
players out to practice today.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
They paid.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
They paid those dudes to show up for two more
hours of work before cutdown announcements at four o'clock today.
So yeah, the Panthers didn't do that. They have, in fact,
announced their fifty three man roster, and the biggest point
of contention for Panthers fans right now is that Hunter
Renfro did not make the roster.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
That's the biggest one. Now.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
It's being pointed out that Hunter said he really didn't
want to play anywhere but Carolina. He doesn't have to
come back, but he wants to make a comeback in football.
He's got another kid on the way. He wants to
stay close to home. Don't be shocked if he ends
up on the practice squad or or if let's just
we've got to, you know, acknowledge that we could still
see and Adam Feelen trade to Minnesota. At this point,

(20:49):
I am skeptical that it's going to happen, but we
could still see Adam Thielen dealt to the Minnesota Vikings
and if that happens, there's a roster spot for Hunter
renfro And as we know, the fifty three man roster
happens at four o'clock, but the next forty eight hours
are still incredibly fluid. You know, guys could still be
on and off the roster over the next forty eight hours.

(21:11):
James Mitchell, the tight end, ended up making the roster.
Bam Martin Scott made the roster. Corey Thornton made the
roster the UDFA out of Louisville, and that one felt
like it was pretty much immortal Locke as of about
two weeks ago.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
I was gonna say after the Browns game, it's like, yeah,
you can't let this guy go.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah. So I mean he's he's gonna
make there. He's on the roster right now, trying to
think who else is Bam Martin Scott made the roster.
So Game Cocks fans can rejoice. Claud and Scherless, Claud
and see. I like Claude and Cherless. I thought in
the action we got to see from him last year,
he showed some promise. I don't think he's ever going
to turn into Luke Keigley or Thomas Davis or Will

(21:52):
Riverspoon or yeah, any of those guys. But I do
think he's he's good linebacker depth, so I'm glad he's
on the team. Ryan Fitzgerald kicker, the one they just
drafted out of Florida State?

Speaker 2 (22:03):
What's that? What do you let you make the team?
He was a UDFA? Oh yeah, he was a UDFA.
Why do you think he was drafted for as? I
don't know. The last kicker they drafted was Harrison Buffet.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
I don't know why I thought that. What a silly
thing for me any thing? But bringing up Pat memories now,
I'm sorry. It's my bad, My bad, I'm trying to
It's like drinking out of a fire hose. Ryan Fitzgerald
made the team, and it sounds like they're going to
give him a chance. What's the what's the latest with
your guy? Better call Sauls your pitts. I know they're
letting him go, But what's the latest with him?

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Do we know? That's all we know.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
The latest we've known is that he is going to
be cut unless they find a trade partner. But I
don't think anyone's going to risk a six or seven
round pick for a kicker. Even if he's good, they're
going to try to stick it on the waiver wire claim.
But as of right now, it sounds like Ryan Fitzgerald
is going to be the kicker. I think most of
the struggles that we heard came from the skinny post
for him, So I don't know. Uh, he looked pretty

(22:50):
good when he was kicking preseason. He kicked at fifty
two yarder against the Houston Texans, got the only points
of the game on the board. So yeah, but yeah,
it didn't really not the most enticing and most exciting
battle out in camp, and it didn't seem like there
was a clear winner from the get go, but it
sounded like at the end Fitzgerald won out.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Okay, all right now Texters writing in here, somebody said,
bum DJ Johnson. He's still around, man, He's still hanging around.
They don't have a lot of depth, so you can't
go chasing off everybody at the position. They just drafted
a couple of guys. They're going to take a minute,
so I don't think they're looking for DJ Johnson to

(23:30):
be a big factor here. He might be let go
in a couple of weeks. He may have taken big strides.
I don't know. Thomas Incombe making the team also interesting,
not that it's a shock. He had a good camp,
and while I don't know that he popped as much
on the film from the preseason games, his teammates have
really sung his praises throughout camp and practice that Thomas
Incomb he's got good burst off the edge. He's made

(23:53):
plays out there, especially in practice and the joint practice.
So I am not the least bit shocked that he
ended up making the t seven oh four five seven
ninety six ten. Hit us up with your thoughts, want
to know what you think. I did get a funny
text a minute ago from our guy Panthers PSL Sucker.
He said, enough about Renfro, when are we talking about
Taylor and Travis. Well, I'm hesitant to do so, and

(24:15):
I'm not going to torture you with Taylor and Travis
talk for too long because I really don't care that much.
I'm not a Chiefs fan. I'm not a Kelsey super fan.
Lord knows, I'm not a swifty. But I called this one,
so I'm going to take my victory lap Smoke. Unbeknownst
to me, pulled the audio of the day that I
made the prediction, the day that they, I guess announced
their relationship. And I have no idea what's coming, but
this is apparently what I said. They can play coy, right,

(24:37):
they're talking about it publicly. They're dating, right, Yeah, Jason
kind of admitted to it yesterday when he was on
WIP and Philly. And when you look at her list
of boyfriends in the past and then you look at
Travis Kelsey, it's not just that he's in the NFL,
it's that there is a very real difference in man
between them, I'll put it that way. So I'm pretty
sure this is the one for her, right, She's just
figured it out. She was just swimming in a pool

(24:58):
of low take let's bring.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
I'm sorry. That was not nice of me. It was
true though, Like you guys now, I called it right.
I knew knew she was gonna marry that dude, and
everybody was like, oh no, she likes sensitive, artsy guys
with acoustic guitars. And it's look, man, it's biology Like
Taylor spent ten years dating these little fellows that looked
like they could fit in her purse. And that's fine,

(25:25):
like whatever you're into, but deep down, you know, the
vast majority of women in my experience want a big,
strapping dude who looked like, looks like he can carry
a refrigerator up the stairs by himself.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
That's Travis Kelcey, right.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
The man was born with a you know, a male
model's jawline and boss you know biceps. And Taylor was like, okay,
like enough of these British art schoolboys whispering poems in
my ear. I want a guy who can spike beers
on his forehead. And you know is a is a bro.
And she wanted a kid with quads. She wanted her

(25:57):
son's first words to be touchdown.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
You know.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
She got engaged. So yeah, they got engaged. Like it's
I saw it coming. It's science. It's it's not romance.
It's Darwin is what that is. So I don't think
that I'm you know, necessarily a no Stradamis, but it
seemed rather obvious to me.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
And now, you know, the biggest development from this engagement
is that there's a an above zero percent chance.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Now I just love, go ahead, finish your thought. There's
an above zero.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Percent chance now that either Brian Kelly and or Butch
Davis or Butch Jones are gonna be at Taylor Swift's wedding. Yeah,
which is gonna be hilarious. Champions of Life, baby, Champions
of Life, Champions of Life, aar. I love the guys
that can't stand it. I do, I really do, because
I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
I don't care either, But they're like, please, no, Taylor
Swift talk Please dude. You acted like the wicked witch
of the West, and you're getting like the water's gonna
touch it.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Just relax a little bit. Relax.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
You don't have to care. I'm not gonna make this
a regular segment. I don't care. I don't know the
names of her songs, but this one was obvious to
me and I wondered when it was coming. But the
fact that they saved it for Ross Cutdown Day is hilarious.
Like that that part's funny. Well, everyone's having one of
the saddest days in their lives.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Oh, look at Travison Taylor's So I did get a
gig out of that?

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Sure, sure, who's your Bobby? Asks KB? Are you throwing
shade at us little fellas?

Speaker 2 (27:15):
I am not. I am not.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Some of the baddest dudes I've ever met were like
five to seven. Okay, I'm just saying you don't have
to be six four to get a girl. I'm saying
that's why I specified. She just got tired of the
little British art schoolboys who were whispering their poems in
her ears and trying to make her swoon into Jons's
that's all.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Yeah, that one did. She dated Jonas brothers out of thing.
I believe it was Nick. All right, take up Joe
Joe's Joe Joe.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
Yeah, I'm trying to remember Brad Bradley's shooting blanks at KB.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Come on, shake it off. Miguel from Charlotte. We had
enough Taylor Swift crap on the last show.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
All right.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
I don't know what the boys before me did. I
just wanted you to acknowledge that I called that one
from Jump Street.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
I called that one from the Literal Hour that they
announced they were dating. It's a rap. She's gonna have
his baby and that's coming. It's gonna happen, I'd say
within the next year. Honestly, this is not already and.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
This is absolutely definitely going to be Travis Kelsey's last year.
I felt last year was this year definitely is going
to be his last year, no doubt in my mind
he's retiring after this year.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah, he's going to become like
he's going to become a personal assistant on the road
while he watches the kids. And he's gonna probably this
year mom, mister mom, that he's going to become mister
mom watching the kids on the road. I bet you
that happens, all right, seven oh four or five, seven
ninety six ten hit us up on the fan duel
text line, Who's your Bobby said? Apology accepted? There was

(28:35):
no apology in there. I apologize for absolutely nothing. Caleb
Williams nail text says a lot of butt hurt John
Mayer fans right about now.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
I forgot that was one of them.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
Yeah yeah, I mean again, the guys that are like
I could take anymore. Taylor Swift, Dude, if you're married
or you have a girlfriend, you can't get away from
this anyway. You are going home to hear about it.
I know I am. It's probably the first thing my
wife's going to bring up when I walk through the door.
I guarantee it when I walked through the door at
seven o'clock to night. She it's gonna be the first
thing she brings up when I get home, guaranteed. So anyway,

(29:06):
I will move on from that right now for a
minute seven oh four or five, seven oh ninety six
to ten.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Hit us up.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
We got we got Nick Carboni coming up in about
I don't know what is it nine minutes.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Let's do some math there.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
Nick car Bonie's back, we'll get his extensive breakdown on
what these you know, moves mean for Carolina. How shocked
he is that Hunter Renfro didn't make the roster. The
raheem blackshear thing. I mentioned that earlier in the show,
that one, you know, felt like it was coming since
the moment they drafted Trevory tn If we're all honest

(29:39):
about things, I mean, I think black Cheer was given
a fair chance to make the roster. And you know,
there have been times over the last couple of years
where I didn't think they utilized him well enough. But
it doesn't matter. Like they drafted a kid who was
cheaper and who they had they think has a lot
of upside and they're going with him. And I think
that was the exact right thing to do, quite honestly,
so they're they're moving on from black Year. That got

(30:01):
etn now. And the other one that really stood out
to me Smoke was oh, I just lost to There's
so many texts coming in, I just got distracted. The
Blacks cheer one. Oh shy tuttle, shy tuttle Like. People
were griping about how many reps he was getting in
that last preseason game, but I think that was the
conversation too.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Preseason game specifically.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
They gave that guy every chance to show them that
he still had something left in the tank. I think
that was the point. Hey, buddy, show us that you
can still play. Otherwise we're probably done here and they're
done here.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
I mean, I think he was done the moment he
kept on getting taken like five yards behind the line
of scrimmage or down the field against the Houston Texans
offensive line. The Houston Texans offensive line, by the way,
is one of the worst in the NFL. That says
a lot. And look who made the roster Jalen Crumedy
six round pick. They're going to give him their reps
are going to go to Krummendy. Now most likely Cam Jackson,

(30:52):
he's going to get reps. Now, those two guys are
essentially taking the spot of shy Tuttle and taking the
amount of reps. I think that's a good thing. You
invested in both of those guys in the draft. They're
very cheap. Still, let's go see what they got. We
know what shy Tuttle is as a player, and it
ain't good enough. So makes total sense in the world.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yeah, they said go prove it overdone, and they're done,
and I'm okay with it. Seven oh four five, seven
ninety six to ten. Hit us up on the FanDuel
text line right now, we go to smoke on the headlines.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Who is smoke? Where is smoke? Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Let's go what you got?

Speaker 4 (31:26):
All right? Well, a couple of interesting cuts around the NFL.
Tony Jefferson, veteran safety is has been cut by the Chargers.
Old friend Sam Franklin was cut by the Denver Broncos.
Would be shocked if Carolina maybe reaches back out to him,
specifically with the need for a gunner on special teams.
But Kyle, here's the big news. Not involving Travis Kelsey.
The Saints have finally made their decision at quarterback.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Heck yes they have. It's going to be Spencer Rattler.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Good weekend, a good week for the game Cocks, Spencer
Radler starting quarterback. Bam Martin Scott makes roster here, So
I think it ends in disaster, but then we'll come
back to that.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
That's goodness. Say hey, good for you, buddy.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
It's gonna be like the Chris Rock sketch Grand opening,
grand closing.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
I mean, I do have to tell Game Cox fans.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Ar was the guy who was complaining about the Taylor
Swift talk a couple of minutes ago, and he said,
feel free to talk about the game Cocks and the
Hokies coming up on Sunday. I'm not sure you want
me to do that today, because your boy's starting to
puff his chest out a little bit. I'm starting to
feel pretty good about the Hokies on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Not gonna lie to you. We'ren't even doing this at
the beginning of last year too. I've just got this
fluttering feeling in my heart. I'm just I think I'm
going down there to watch a win on Sunday. Can
you feel it in your plumps? The plums are a
big part of it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
And you know, y'all know I root for Shane Beemer
every other week of the season, not this week. I'm
not rooting for Shane this week. And I know what
it would mean for him, So I know what it
means if they lose this game. But I think they're
losing this game. I think they're losing that. I'm gonna
tell Pastor that straight up. Coming up at four twenty five.
Oh God, I can't wait. Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.

(33:21):
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z. I got
Game Cocks fans questioning my sanity for picking the Hokies
to win on Sunday. I have a few people saying
they agree with me. Aj says he's putting money on
Tech Sunday. We'll talk about that with the Pastor coming
up at four twenty five. He is a regular guest
and friend of the show, but he's also filling in
for Ryan McGee of ESPN Today, who cannot be with

(33:43):
us this week. But Ryan McGee. This excited a lot
of people when I said this. Ryan McGee will join
me every Tuesday at four to twenty five on the show.
He's the perfect guest for this show, one half of
Marty and McGee, Senior ESPN writer. He's gonna be with
us every Tuesday, just not this Tuesday. So the PA
to his back and I will tell him to his
face that's a lot. I'll tell him over the phone

(34:05):
that I think the Hokies are winning the game on Sunday,
so we'll see. I might get up there at the
crack of dawn Sunday and drive down there for absolutely
no good reason, but I'm starting to get a pretty
good feeling about this game. We shall see good text
coming in, keep them coming. Seven oh four five, seven
ninety six ten. Right now, we head out to the
hotline and check in with Nick Carboni, NBC Charlotte Sports

(34:26):
Director sports anchor. He was walking the sidelines at the
Charlotte Kickoff Night powered by Ortho Carolina and on the
broadcast with the window open, I loudly yelled, hey, that's
television's Nick Carboni, hoping that he would hear me, but
alas he did not, and it made me quite sad, Nick,
that you didn't hear me.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
How are you, buddy?

Speaker 5 (34:44):
I'm locked in when I'm down there on those high
school sidelines, mostly because mostly because a couple of years ago,
I got popped. So if you're not a you get
complacent down there, you have to be careful. My wife
told me one more of those and I can't shoot
on the sidelines anymore. And I like to be where
the action is, so I'm sorry about that. I did
get some information from your your broadcast partner, Anthony Paizon

(35:07):
pag Nada that really helped my eleven o'clock news, and
I listened to y'all on the way to and from
the game. Y'all done it great.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
I appreciate it. No, it was great to see you.
So we'll get down to business here. Your thoughts on
the the impending nuptials of Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift?
Do you have any deep thoughts on on their announcement
that they are soon to be wed.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
I just the first thing that comes to mind, Kyle,
is what does this mean for Lebron's leg? Obviously, right,
I think that's where I think that's what we're all
thinking today. Hey, good for them, Like I like love,
I love love. Good for them? Uh, didn't didn't think
it would get this far. But here we are, right
before the season. Are they going to add as the
next announcement that another season of Chief Kingdom or whatever

(35:50):
that that's Is that going to drop now that this
is this is official? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
I mean, does she does she work in the front office?
Like now you know she knows a cover two from
a cover four.

Speaker 5 (35:59):
Listen, she wouldn't be the first significant other of a
major football name to have any control over a TV show.
I'll just throw that out there.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
And I'm also bringing this up because there are there
are select few guys I'm my text line, like ar
and Joe Gibbs Junior. They're just like, I can't take
it anymore. Why would you mention her name? And it's like, Rah,
you got to relax a little bit. I'm not into
it either, but god it mighty, just relax a little bit.
It's fifteen fifteen million people have liked the post, and
my wife is already one of them, by the way.

(36:29):
So anyway, let's talk about the Panthers for real cut
down day today. Let's start with the biggest news that's
got everybody worked up on Twitter. That is Hunter Renfro
not making the fifty three man roster.

Speaker 6 (36:39):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I mean not totally surprised based on
really the back let's call it sixty six percent back
third of training camp.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
He had a sensational start. He was possibly the best
story in training camp league wide. He had the day
where Dabo was there. It was like Hunter Renfro day.
You couldn't even get a piece of him that day.
But then he was slowed up by the hamstring injury
and you know he wasn't available. You had younger players
on the roster like Bryce and Tremaine absolutely stand out

(37:10):
and against all odds, appear to be safe. So, you know,
not totally surprised. Bill, Sure think they could use a
guy like him. Maybe it's tea leaves on what's going
on with the feeling situation. But really, if you were,
you know, dialed into the last third of camp, you're
not totally shocked that he's not on a fifty three.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
I mean, yeah, definitely not totally shocked. Now, I still
think there's a world in which he stays here, could
be practice squad, could be by way of a feeling trade.
Real quickly, not to belabor the point on Renfro. But
you know, he told me this is where he wanted
to be. He doesn't need to play football, but he
wanted to play for the Panthers. What, if anything, do
you think that means toward you know, the potential that

(37:50):
he still ends up a member of this team somehow,
some way.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
I think it's entirely possible. And based on his camp,
you know, while it was a nice story and while
he looked like he was getting back to form, you know,
he may not be plucked to somebody else's fifty three
if you try to stash him for a while and
then bring him up as need be, and chances are
there will be and as need be, And you're right.
I mean, he kind of has said that to everybody

(38:14):
like this, this was kind of my shot and it
was gonna be with Carolina, and everybody seemed to kind
of be on board with it and be you know,
supportive of him while he was here. So I think
he's very comfortable here, not just because it's close to home,
but because of how the last couple of months since
the spring has gone. So I could absolutely see it.
But you know, there's enough probably on that practice tape

(38:35):
from a week and a half in comments from even
Dave Canalis saying like, I'm starting to see the old
Hunter rentro out there that somebody could take their shot
and we'll just see if he takes it.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Nick Carboni, NBC Charlotte Sports Director, Sports anchor with us
here on a Tuesday Panthers have cut the roster down
to fifty three. Before I ask you any more specifics,
did anything strike you as particularly shocking? Did anything they've
done so far make you say, wow, I can believe
they did that.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
I mean just the Bryson Tremaine storyline in general. Right,
you had the Corey Thornton story to start training camp,
and he carried that all the way through and then
all of a sudden, I think it was the Browns
joint practice and it was actually a pro from Jack
Plumber to end practice that day where Bryson Tremaine made
a heck of a catch, and it just became kind
of a string of days where there's Bryson Tremaine again.

(39:23):
There he is again, he offers, you know, a little
something different. I mean, they've got a diverse room in
terms of body type, speeds, and you know, he kind
of fits that taller guy go up and get it
mold and you know, you can never have too many
of those guys. And they feel good about the guys
they have running in the middle of the field too,
So I think that's You know, if you had told

(39:43):
me three weeks ago that he would make the roster,
I would absolutely be shocked based on the room. And
then that was around when renfro was killing it in camp,
so not a shock today. But if you had said
Bryson Tremaine before training camp, most people would say, who.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Looks like they're keeping four tight ends for now? Right?

Speaker 3 (40:03):
You got Tommy Trimble activated, JT Sanders, healthy, Mitchell Evans,
rookie James Mitchell ended up making this roster again at
least for now.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
What does that mean to you? Keeping four tight ends?

Speaker 5 (40:14):
Yeah? I mean I think James Mitchell had a much
better camp than Mitchell Evans. And Mitchell Evans is a
guy they've invested, you know, mid round pick on, and
you don't want to part with that just yet. You
want to see what else you can grab out of it.
I'm not saying he had a bad camp. I'm just saying,
like if you put him side by side and showed
you all the clips you go this James Mitchell guy
has got it, and he absolutely does. You know, He's

(40:35):
been behind some really talented players prior to coming to Carolina,
and he's still a relatively young guy, and he can
get the ball and he can do all the other
things you ask a tight end to do as well.
So we'll see how that depth shakes out on game
day and who makes the forty seven you know, forty
six or whatever going into a game. But James Mitchell,
I think had too good of a camp to really say,

(40:57):
you know, he's got to go Nick.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
The Adam Thielen situation, it's been funny for me to
watch Adam Schefter in particular report this thing because it
feels like everything is coming from the agent and the
rest of it's coming from Minnesota. I don't get the
sense that any of this is coming from Carolina. What
do you make of not just the standoff as we
understand it over compensation, you know, but also the continuous

(41:23):
reporting on this while basically nothing gets done.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
Listen, it's one of those situations where everybody wants to
say he wants to go home. We haven't heard that
from Adam Feeling. I'm sure he loves home, but I
think he really is finally to the point here in
Carolina where he feels like something significant could happen in
terms of success. And he's been there the whole way,
especially with Bryce Young. You know, does he want to
go work with a basically an effective, effectively a rookie

(41:49):
quarterback in Minnesota just so he can live in Minnesota.
I'm not convinced of that, but everybody else seems to be.
And ultimately it's not up to him. It is up
to Dan Morgan and the that he says or deems
is good enough to deal your leading receiver from the
last two years a safety blanket for Bryce Young. Yes,

(42:09):
you like your receivers in the room now more than
you have in a long time, but a lot of
that is based on projection and guys making jumps. Know
what you have an adam feeling? Right, Young knows what
he has an adam feeling. You've got a talented enough
room in your mind to at the right price pull
the trigger on this. But you know, I'm not sure
Minnesota is going to be real comfortable giving up giving

(42:30):
that price up, especially when they do get Jordan Adison
back in three or four weeks now.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
Real quick, did Taylor Moten extension from a couple of
days ago, you know your thoughts on that? Obviously, we're
I think we're all big fans of Taylor Moten, just
in terms of the person that he is, the way
he carries himself. It also clears up some money, and
you know, people started speculating immediately that you know, that's
money the Panthers could put to good use or put
the work right away. But I'm not sure that's going
to be the case. What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 5 (42:56):
Yeah, I still think you know, everybody you know we
talked about Trey Hendrick last week. Obviously that situation is resolved.
All thirty one fan bases think Michah Parsons might come there,
and I think they're gonna be the ones to fleece
Jerry if that doesn't get resolved. But I just think
those big moves and that big spending is something that

(43:16):
they have an eye on next off season.

Speaker 6 (43:18):
Four.

Speaker 5 (43:19):
They like the guys they've developed, they like the guys
they've drafted the last few years. They think Bryce Young
can take the next step. They love the offensive line,
they like the defensive line a little better. I just
think in year two. Listen. Panthers fans and Hornets fans
hate hearing that, right, because it's like it ain't year
two of my rebuild. If I'm a fan, it's year ten.
But for Dan Morgan Dave Canalis is year two. And

(43:40):
I don't think you're empty in the pocketbook just yet
for the big name players that might be available.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
All right, Nick, I appreciate you as always, brother, Thank
you for the call. Do you have your radio, by
the way, I think I can hear myself.

Speaker 5 (43:54):
I am not in my car. I am in the
bowels of Bank of America stadiums, right, Maybe somebody's got
you on it.

Speaker 6 (44:01):
Well.

Speaker 3 (44:01):
The reason I ask is people are calling me out
for not telling because they say, you tell your listeners
to turn down the radio, but you're not telling Carboni
to turn down the radio.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
But I don't think Nick's in front of a radio.

Speaker 5 (44:10):
So he just said, I am in front of the
Panthers locker room.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
Yeah, we.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
We have an issue that has nothing to do with
Nick Carboni. Thank you, brother, We appreciate you. We'll talk
to you next week. Nick Carbonie hanging out with us
on a Tuesday. I hear it too, Scott, Scott the platypus.
I don't know if he's upset or he said, KB,
why do you tell callers to always turn down the radio?
