Speaker 2 (00:24):
The Panthers are wheeling and dealing. Carolina swapping picks with
the Vikings to ship Adam Thielen back home to Minnesota,
and they swap a plumber for a hooker and Hunter
Renfro still on the outside looking in. Has Carolina turned
the page on the former Clemson star? And while the
NFL churns, college football turns the page.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
We know that much.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
This weekend marks the final college game day with Lee Corso,
an end of an era. We'll talk about it, and
we'll ask the question nobody else is asking. Is there
a male version of Taylor Swift in sports or pop culture?
Not just now, but ever? And don't forget Friday Night,
the Duke's Mayo Classic Right here in Charlotte. Both athletic
directors app States Doug Gillan and Charlotte's Mike Hill will
(01:07):
join us live to preview the Big One strap in
We are loaded right here on Sports Radio ninety two
seven wfn Z emanating live from the Chandler Voulta studio,
the Carolina's Personal Injury Lawyers. One call, that's all go
to CV Injury law dot com. And I'm told by
the great and powerful Smoke Ludwig right as we take
the air today that we have more tickets to give
(01:29):
away for Charlotte and app State. And I said, okay,
what's today's keyword? And Smoke said, well, today's keyword is
simply app app And I said, I was waiting for
him to make some you know me joke or some
lame but that's me. I'm the old one. And then
he turns and throws a shot at app State. So
his catamount's not even involved in this game yet he
is still throwing shots at app State. And I presume
(01:50):
rooting for the Charlotte forty nine ers on Friday. Good afternoon, sir.
Are you in fact rooting for the Niners on Friday
in the Duke's Mayo Classic? Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
I have made it clear, unless someone in my family's
life is at steak or the world is a steak,
I'm not rooting for app Okay, So okay, Charlotte's like
I root for you and C when they play App.
You know how hard that is for me to probably
not easy for you, now, yeah, definitely not. I root
for you and C So I'm rooting for Charlotte, root
for Tim Alvinson is like a nice guy was able
to run to coaches show on Monday right here on
(02:21):
sports Radio wf and Z. And you know, I hope
Charlotte finally gets it figured out, you know, And I
just I'm not going to root for App on anything.
By the way, Western Carolina, I do have a reason
to pump my chest. Western Carolina FCS ranked to start
the year. You know how that rare that is, Kyle
m I mean you have to go back to coach
Bob waters days last time that happened.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Damn.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
So we're talking legit here, and you got a big
matchup against Gardner Web. Don't think I didn't forget about you,
Gardner Webb going down Bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
This is exactly what people tuned in for to start
the show today. Yeah, Gardner Web, Western Catamount trash talk
for sure. Now again the key word they're good to go, right,
They can text app to win tickets, text app to
the fan duels line seven oh four five seven oh
ninety six ten. Let's get it rolling early today because
folks have been asking for these tickets all week. A
lot of folks have registered to win. Only one person
(03:09):
can win per day at least on this show, so
we start all over again today. If you would like
a pair of tickets to the Duke's Mayo Classic on
Friday to see app State and the Charlotte forty nine
ers text app as an app for app State app
to the FanDuel text line seven oh four five seven
oh ninety six ten. I will circle back to the
Taylor Swift question later because it's really not that important
(03:30):
in the grand scheme of things relative to the rest
of our conversation. But I am going to come back
to that because I do want to know what people think.
Is there, or has there ever been a male version
of Taylor Swift in the sports, pop culture, entertainment world.
Seven oh four five seven oh ninety six ten. But
we start with Adam Thielen headed back to Minnesota, and
there's not a doubt in my mind that his wife
(03:52):
wanted to go home. Now, Adam, I think would have
been fine. I think he's happy about this. I saw
the video. But man is Lay's wife wanted to go home,
and as a married man and a lot of you
out there, you know, it's just different when mama's happy
or mama's not happy. So they seem overall happy as
a family. Adam Thelen's going back to Minnesota in a
trade that finally got done. I was starting to become
(04:12):
very skeptical this would happen. I heard Adam Schefter last
night on ESPN saying the same thing, that he believed
that this was not likely to happen at this point.
But the Panthers end up in a fairly you know,
not complex, but multi layered deal visa the compensation. They
end up with a net fourth round pick in twenty
(04:33):
twenty seven. There's a couple of pick swaps, but mostly
what you need to know is that Adam Thlen's going
back to Minnesota and the Panthers netted a fourth round
pick in twenty twenty seven. So I get that some
people are going to dislike this deal. I myself understand it,
but I also know that if this wide receiver room
turns out to not be as deep as they think,
(04:54):
if Jalen Cocher doesn't step into a big year, if
Xavier League get you know, doesn't have a real good
sophomore campaign. God forbid, somebody gets hurt and they didn't
keep Hunter Renfro. This, this will come back up, right,
So I'm not gonna do the whole thing smoke where
I'm like, man, I'm really happy for Adam Thielen.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
I mean that's cool.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I like, I'm a sucker for a coming home story.
I like that stuff. Don't get me wrong, And I
guess I wish him the best. You know, on a
personal level, seems like a super nice guy. I've talked
to him a handful of times. But I'm more concerned
about whether or not this works out for Carolina. And
we look up the day after roster cutdowns at four
pm yesterday and they've gotten to fifty three or they
(05:32):
did get to fifty three. And the net result here
is that neither Adam Thielen nor Hunter Renfro are on
the Carolina Panthers roster, but bryceon Tremaine is James Mitchell.
Just in terms of past catchers, right, different position, but
same sort of thing. Tight end. They got four tight ends.
They're keeping James Mitchell, but neither Adam Thielen nor Hunter
(05:53):
Renfro it seems will be Carolina Panthers probably at all
to start the season. I don't know what happens with Renfro.
I gets it's still possible that if somebody gets hurt
or somebody's not performing, they could sign Renfro off the street.
Maybe there's been some indication that hey, stay stay in shape,
stay in contact. We may need to call you up.
You know, that could be part of the conversation here.
(06:13):
But I want to hear from people out there seven
oh four, five, seven ninety six to ten your thoughts
on Adam Feelin ending up in Minnesota after all. Again, Smoke,
I'll ask you, you've seen this all go down. You
and I've had these conversations for going on a week.
At this point, it's finally come to fruition.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
He's gone.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
He's back to Minnesota. To me, thiss just signals they
trust their young wide receiver corps.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Definitely, I think that's the case, and specifically they trust
Jalen Coker because that's who's going to benefit the most
from this trade right here, Jalen Coker. We kind of
were wondering about him, you know, taking special team snaps
throughout the yearly part of preseason, didn't hear much of him,
and then he had that good joint practice.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Against the Browns.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Dave Canalis was speaking glowingly about him, how he was
able to really bulk up and get himself more into
football shape heading into year two of the NFL from
his rookie year, and then he had the performance that
he did against the Browns in a preseason game.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Didn't get to see him against Houston.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
But I think more than anything, this is a glowing, glowing.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Not indictment. But what's the word I'm looking for. A
glowing I don't know. I can't help you on this one.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Yeah, a glowing review and a glowing a lot of
praise for Jalen Coker and how much they think about him,
in my opinion, because they wouldn't do I don't think
they do this if they didn't have any belief in
Jalen Cocker, if they felt like they were going to
have a nose dive at the wide receiver position after
they traded Adam Feelin, I don't think they do this.
But because I believe they have a lot of belief
(07:41):
in what Jalen Coker can do in the future, they
made this decision once the Minnesota Vikings finally caved in
and gave a fourth round pick.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
They did, and the Vikings, by the way, or are
eating the money too, Like haven't you even mentioned that part
that you know, there's kap relief for the Carolina Panthers
in this. So from a transaction standpoint, even Vikings fans
have admitted the Panthers won this trade. Our guy Thorn
Eistrom I saw him earlier, like he wasn't upset about
it or anything, but he was pointing out that you know,
per the chart, Carolina, it's a He called it a
(08:12):
slight overpay for the Vikings, not egregious but necessary, and
says it's a good compromise in trade for both teams.
But that's that's the Viking standpoint, and Thor is fair,
Thor is balanced. I like Thor Lott, no criticism here
of his analysis. But yeah, the Vikings did overpay still
in what they gave up for Adam Thielen. So it
is safe to say that from again the transaction business standpoint,
(08:33):
the Panthers won this trade. They get some cap relief.
They just got the Moten deal done too, which cleared
up several million dollars in cap space there, so they
have financial flexibility to do some things now or into
the season. And I know that we talked about this
more with Scott Fitterer, but he was far from the
only general manager who emphasized carrying cap space into the
season to make moves happen. You know when you need
(08:55):
to make moves happen, like if you find yourself, let's
say ideally, you know you start the season four and two,
five or six and three. You know, when you're off
to a great start and you're possibly pushing for the playoffs,
and you get to the trade deadline, you know, you
got to take some money in. Maybe you make a
big swing there, maybe you know, things of that nature.
So it's not just that they won the trade in
terms of compensation, which they did, even Vikings fans are
(09:17):
admitting that. But you know, you open up more cap space,
you've got some more money to play with to add
room or add pieces to this roster if it becomes necessary.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
So I again, I'm.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
A little concerned, not gonna lie about not having Adam
Thielen in the early portion of this schedule. However, that's said,
and I believe I said this yesterday, but I've seen
other people make the same point, and I agree with it.
If Bryce Young is going into year three and he
can't exist or win games without Adam Thielen, then we
(09:49):
probably have a bigger problem than not having Adam Thieln, Right,
we can all we can all generally agree with that.
If we get into this season and Bryce Young can't
win games without Adam feeling, it's probably got a great yeah. Right,
I mean, unless the circumstances are that everybody else sucks
and or got hurt, in which case that's a different
you know, can of worms all together. But if he
can't win games without Adam, you know, and they need
(10:10):
these young guys to step up. We knew this was
possible going into the season, that maybe at the deadline
he could be dealt out of here. But this show's
an enormous amount of trust and the guys that they have,
they want to prioritize reps and snaps and targets for
young dudes. Bryce and Tremaine just straight up made the roster. So,
I mean, I think the writing is clearly on the wall.
They like what they've got and they're gonna they're gonna,
(10:31):
you know, risk it on the players that they've placed
on this roster.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
And I'll go ahead and say I think too much
was being made out of the fact that what's Priyce
gonna do without Adam Feeling, Because it's like, as you said,
if you're relying on Adam Feeling to make your quarterback
serviceable that you traded up a lot of assets for,
you got a bigger problem coming ahead, and it's it
was going to rear its ugly head eventually. So I
don't think that's the case. I think, as you said,
they finally had the wide receiver room in place to
(10:56):
where they can trust it moving forward. I think I
saw someone I think it might have been to four
man rush on Twitter. Go back and watch that Falcons
game last year where they won an overtime, who made
a lot of clutch plays, who got a lot of
the catches down to stretch in clutch time. It wasn't
Adam Feeling. It was Jalen Coker. Go back and watch
that game. He made a lot of the catches. So
I think they feel like they finally have a wide
(11:18):
receiver room in place, as you said, And it makes
sense because Dave Canalis is not only calling the offense,
but he is a wide receiver coach at heart. So
he's worked with a lot of these guys for him
to have enough trust in some of the guys he's
worked with over the past few years. And I do
want to say this juxtaposed that to what it was
two years ago. If the wide receiver room was what
it was two years ago, I get it because it
was Adam Feelin DJ Shark, Terres Marshall, Junior, Jonathan Mingo.
(11:44):
So it was basically Adam Feeling and a bunch of
spare parts that you're trying to put on an old
car into garage.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
It wasn't going to work.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
No, And the thing is like as good as Adam
Feeling has been since he's gotten here. And I got
nothing bad to say about Adam Felon. Most people don't
you know. He is thirty five. He did deal with
hamstring issues last year. He's not getting any younger. There's
no guarantee that he goes out to Minnesota and lights
it up. And you could tell he was being a
little bit. His role was being reduced a bit in camp.
I heard the word deemphasized used earlier and there's definitely
(12:12):
some truth to that, because, let's face it, even if
he is, you know, one of the two or three
best you had going into the year, he's done at
the end of the year. He almost retired last year. Now,
is it possible that Minnesota goes on some magic carpet
ride and Adams stays healthy and he feels phenomenal at
thirty six and he plays again.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yeah, I guess so.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
But every indication is this will likely be his final
year in the NFL. So they had to move on Bryce,
and these targets had to move on without him at
some point. So you know, there's risk to it, There's
no question about that. But if Bryce is as advertised,
if Excel is what they hope he is, if Jalen
Cocher is what he hopes they what they hope he is,
If Jimmy Horn Junior, who's being brought up a couple
(12:50):
of times here, who I have very limited expectations for
to start the season as a seventh round rookie, but
they love him, and speed doesn't grow on trees. You know,
if he's hope what they hope he is, Bryson tremain
on down the line, then they're going to be okay,
and if they can't be okay without Adam Thielen, then
the operation is probably not as good as it needs
to be.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Yeah, and I do think now we mentioned this, you
talked about it. With the fact that the Minnesota's taken
most of the money, maybe Carolina can get depth in
another area that they've been looking at. Maybe they get
another safety in because I am not confident in Nick
Scott heading into this year, and it seems like he
would probably be the starter over Lafe and Ransom. There
are still some utter safeties out there, like, for example,
(13:29):
uh Tony Jefferson, the veteran got cut by the Chargers
yesterday and he had a good year last year and
had a good preseason. He's a veteran guy that you
can bring in on a fill in basis four year
That would make a lot of sense. And you got
a couple other safeties still out there, including Justin Simmons
that they could potentially still bring in. Who knows, maybe
opening up that seven eight million dollars six seven million
dollars in cap could get them over to Hump to
(13:50):
get one of those safeties if they want one to
fill in the void before Leaf and Ransom is ready
this year, Yeah, no, no.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Doubt seven oh four, five, seven ninety six ten.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Hit us up.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
I'm trying to pull up the full list of practice
squad editions that the Panthers settled on earlier today worth noting.
Let's say we got Chris Barnes the linebacker, cornerback Schamar
Bartholomew linebacker, outside linebacker, edge rusher Boogie Basham who was
cut yesterday but brought back to the practice squad. Defensive
end Jared Harrison Hunt Jared Kankston offensive lineman is back
(14:22):
on the practice squad.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Mos Mwanza is there.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Tight end Bryce Pierre, wide receiver jesseem Red, cornerback Mike Read,
defensive tackle Sam Roberts, offensive tackle Mike Tarquin, safety Trevy
and Thomas in offensive lineman Brandon Walton. So those were
the practice squad editions from earlier, and Hunter Renfro's not there,
people are asking where's Rent. I'm telling you, I've never
seen this much, you know, backlash, outrage, demanding to know
(14:48):
what's going on and when they're bringing him back, because
I've seen for Hunter Renfro in the last twenty four hours.
Does this compare to anything you've ever seen in terms of,
you know, a guy of his stature but trying to
make a comeback. I don't know what this compares to.
In my near decade covering this football team. I can't
think of a single player who's exclusion on the roster,
the demand for him on the roster, the shock when
(15:09):
he didn't make it, the anger and outrage. It doesn't
compare to anything that I've seen in the decade covering
the Panthers. Nobody happens to be at the best position
for the outrage to happen at for Panthers fans, and
that's wide receiver. Because this fan base, especially during the preseason,
always is itching for a wide receiver to make the
team that maybe won't make the team, or could make
the team, or is a feel good story, as you said,
(15:29):
and they don't make the team. I remember ten years ago, Kyle,
you weren't here unfortunately for this. But between the time
that Calvin Benjamin got hurt, yeah, and the start of
the season, I don't know how many players that fans
are mitching they wanted Carolina to look at.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Hey, Reggie Wayne's available. Go get Reggie Wayne, Go get
Reggie Wayne. Oh, why did you let the Patriots go
get Reggie Wayne?
Speaker 5 (15:48):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Come on to Patriots win again? Reggie Wayn gets cut
three weeks later. Hey, Randy Moss, his son's here. He's
playing at Mallard Creek. Maybe he's got a couple more
snaps left in him. Stuff like that. People get psychotic
for why receiver position here, Kyle, So it doesn't surprise me.
It's just I haven't seen anything like what's with Hunter
Renfro yet.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Yeah, that's true, that's true.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six, ten hit
us up on the fan duel text line we have.
Of course, we haven't even gotten to them signing Hendon
Hooker as the third quarterback on this team. You and
I were just discussing this yesterday. I had a lengthy
conversation about it with Wes and Walker in our newsroom
our fish Bowl yesterday, and I was I'm a big
(16:28):
Hendon Hooker fan, love him. I will say that his
time in Detroit has dampened my outlook for his NFL career,
no doubt about it. But I'm a I'm a huge fan.
And it goes back to most of you know before Tennessee.
He played his first three years at Milema Mater, so
I watched a lot of Hendon Hooker, heard a lot
about him from the folks in the building, the coaching staff.
He is, he was beloved everywhere he goes. Greensborough native
(16:50):
coming home to North Carolina. And he's a big kid.
I mean he's six y four, two hundred and fifteen
two hundred twenty pounds, good arm. But I think we
learned a couple of things that Joshype Tennessee offense isn't
necessarily conducive towards translating to the NFL at the quarterback position.
That's a little bit of a concern. I'm not out
on Hooker because he's always been I've always referred to
(17:13):
him as a gamer. Right early in his collegiate career,
the kid didn't practice well, but every time he got
into a game situation, he showed up and played when
the lights came on. And it's what earned him the
starting job. And then you saw what he did at Tennessee.
He's smart, he's adaptive. I just always assumed that because
of his work ethic and his IQ, that you know,
he would be able to adapt and get better and
(17:35):
continue to progress. And I hope that's the case, but
I think he I believe he was the author of
like twenty offensive drives in Detroit this preseason, and I
believe they scored three points.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
I also think that the fact that he entered his
first year not being able to do anything due to
the injury he has sustained in the South Carolina game
put him behind the eight ball from the get go
in Detroit. And you add on to the fact that
by that point, because remember they they spent a third
round pick on him, by the time that he got
back from injury, it was already a foregone conclusion, Oh,
(18:06):
Jared Goff might actually be our quarterback by this point,
because when they drafted him, there was still kind of
a hubbub of Jared Goff really going to be the
long term answer for the Detroit lines, and by that
point it was not the case. I think that stunted
his growth trying to come back from injury, not as
much as put into him at that point to try
and to develop him. If he developed, essentially, I think
(18:26):
Detroit grooted mindset. If he develops cool, If not, so
be it. I think, look, he could be cutting two
to three weeks here, or even two to three days.
That's how this thing works sometimes. But I think he
could have a better chance to develop as a backup
quarterback here than he did in Detroit. And let's face it,
it already feels like an upgrade because he's not Jack Plumber.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
Well that's the big one, all right, seven oh four, five,
seven ninety six, ten phone lines. Open your thoughts on
the text line, but also I'm going to come back
and take some phone calls. Zach and Troy are up
first when we come back. Sports Radio ninety two to
seven wfn Z.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Adam Feeling is.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
On his way back to Minnesota. Hendon Hooker is a
Carolina Panther. The Panthers have solidified the practice squad. They
picked up a couple of players off of waivers. Damar Mathis,
the cornerback who was with his Ziro everro in Denver
back in twenty twenty two, started eleven games that year,
is now a Panther. They picked him up off the
waiver wire. And Levon Campbell, the wide receiver, is also
(19:42):
now a Carolina Panthers. So your thoughts on at all
as the roster starts to come together. But I still
think is not finished. One big surprise, you know, beyond
Adam or Hunter Renfro, of course, is that a guy
like DJ Johnson is still on the roster. You know,
could that change? I heard Mack and Bone gussing it
this morning. The initial depth chart had the Panthers with
(20:03):
six outside linebackers to just four inside linebackers. Is that
something that could change and that maybe DJ Johnson is
not completely safe yet? What about a Caleb Evans?
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Right?
Speaker 2 (20:13):
They just brought in mathis as we talked about a
second ago, these end of roster guys, are they going
to make the roster? Bam Martin Scott from South Carolina
Game cocks all over this roster. I'm sure Clemson fans
are especially pissed about that today given the Renfro situation.
But you know, Bam Martin Scott, another undrafted guy who
makes the roster. Will he stick? I think so given
the positional need, But you know, we'll have to wait
(20:35):
and see. So we're taking your thoughts on all of it,
and we are having the U I guess ongoing discussion.
We'll hone in on it in just a bit. The
question has there ever been a male version of Taylor Swift.
And I got to say two things have gotten my
mind rolling in the last ten minutes since I asked
that question. My guy not a text to me and said,
(20:55):
fam male Taylor Swift is Drake, And I refuse to
accept that. There's just no way that Drake is the
male Taylor Swift.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Right, No, because especially now, especially now, right, Drake has
no longer beloved. He was omnipresent there for a good
long while a decade ago, like from twenty ten to
like twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Okay, yeah, that is yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
And then then somebody else said KB Michael Jackson was
every bit as big, if not bigger than Taylor Swift
back in the eighties and the nineties. That got me thinking,
I hadn't Michael Jackson had crossed my mind. But I
just don't know because real quick on this yesterday, when
I brought it up, or whenever we first talked about
the Swelsea engagement, and we had the obligatory three or
(21:37):
four or five guys probably in their fifties that were like,
I don't care, I don't give a damn about her.
Don't you can't talk about her on Sports radio. I'm like,
I don't think you'll get it. Man, Like us millennials
and Gen z Ers, especially our wives and girlfriends, grew
up idolizing this woman. So I'm not a swiftye. I'm
not a fan. Even though the Bagel guy swears that
when my daughters get a little bit older, I'm gonna
(21:58):
be dancing to Taylor Swift songs on TIK. I don't
believe I'm ever going to devolve into that as a dad,
But I don't mean that to be a jerk.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
By the way.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
I don't think I'm ever going to do that. But
like I knew my wife was going to bring this
up first thing when I got home. Because our wives,
our girlfriends, our sisters. I didn't have any, but some
of y'all did. Grew up absolutely obsessed with this girl
and the breakup songs and the albums and her entire
life story. She's got two hundred and eighty million followers
on Instagram. I didn't know that until yesterday or whenever
(22:27):
the boast came out. So has there ever truly been
a male version of Taylor Swift? I want to know
what people think seven oh four or five, seven ninety
six ten.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Well, table it.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
We'll come back to it, because right now we're talking
football and I'm going to the phone lines. Zach is
up first. He wants to talk about the Adam Thielen trade. Zach,
what's going on?
Speaker 4 (22:43):
Brother?
Speaker 3 (22:43):
How are you good?
Speaker 6 (22:45):
Evening gentlemen? First things first, just wanted to go ahead
and say fifteen year military man and Ronnick, but awes,
I'd say that to say that you won't get me
through a couple of appointments and your your content reaches
a lot further than what you want me realize.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Oh man, that's awesome. Thank you for sting. Thank you
for your service. Brother. We appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (23:02):
Originally from the gas house. So baby, let's go. But
just one of the wanted to get back into that.
I'm feeling talk like you just mentioned. We mentioned if
everything comes to puition for what we have in place,
Let's just say that everything and more than we trust
more or less. Let's look at it from a salary
cap cap aspect. So I wanted to say, I saw
(23:24):
it was seven million or so. They were taken on
for the remainder of its contract for the season.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
If we table that.
Speaker 6 (23:30):
With whatever else may be, you know in our pockets already.
What would be y'all's best, at our best guestimation of
a position of somebody that's still out there. Let's say something,
if somebody goes down, Heaven forbid a uh in another
position or maybe even the wide receiver position. Who do
you foresee with that dollar amount? You all, what have
the dimensions at your disposal best than me?
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Let me ask you this because I'm looking at Smoking,
I are looking at each other as you asked the question,
trying to figure it out. I think we've passed the
point where they're using big money to sign a free
agent and probably Smoke more likely that they've got cap
space if they want to use it to absorb a
big salary in a trade maybe at some point, or
to sign a mid level player in the season if
they need one back in the NBA. Yeah, like that,
That's what I'm thinking, Zach. I don't think there's some
big payday coming for anybody off the street.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Okay, copy of that?
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Then what would you say we would use that money
for them going forward? If or do you think it
was just a clean he was only worth a fourth
round pick?
Speaker 7 (24:23):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (24:23):
I mean the fourth round pick for a thirty five
year old receiver who is almost certainly going to retire
at the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
I think is good compensation. Okay, very good.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
We'll go ahead and we'll deal with that. And like
I said, and Morgan, we trust. I look forward to
listening to you all throughout the season.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Thank you'll, thank ezact. I appreciate you, brother. That was
a great phone call. Heck of a way to start
the show here on a Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
And I'm glad you mentioned Dan Morgan at the end
because I can't fully say that I fully trust him yet,
just because it's still very early in his tenure. But
I think we got a big look into what how
he does business moving forward compared to how his predecessor,
Scott Fitter did business. He's not going to budge. He
wants something, he's gonna get it, and he's going to
not saying he's gonna play hardball, but he's sticking to
(25:02):
his guns and staying on his ground and saying I'm
not moving, I'm not gonna budge. We're gonna get this
deal done one way or another. And he got I
think what he wanted. Look, we all wanted a fair
round pick. You asked for a third. Yeah, but it's
pine this guy to get a fir round pick. Given
the situation, you find out how desperate they are, you
ask for a third exactly, and he got what he wanted.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
I mean, you can call it the art of the dealer,
just hard negotiating. I don't really care, but you ask
for the third. But we if you go back to
last week on this show, the first thing we talked
about was, Okay, there are rumors that Minnesota might want
him back. The Panthers don't need to get rid of him.
He's thirty five, he's probably gonna retire at season's end.
If Dan Morgan gets offered a fourth, he's probably taking it,
(25:42):
maybe a conditional fifth and a player or something along
those lines. But I felt like a fourth might just
get it done. And according to the Jimmy Johnson Trade
chart or whatever updated modern version of it that might
be a little bit different. No matter how you slice it,
Carolina comes out the winner in this trade from a
transaction standpoint. They get a fourth round pick out of it.
And while the history of fourth round picks here might
(26:02):
not be, you know, the greatest I saw some I
think it was my guy cow heard rattling those off
earlier on the text line because he called us like
a week a guy. He did tell that, Yeah, ye,
yeah he did. You know, it's still you've got a
different regime in here now, and you're hopeful that this
is the regime. Like good teams do, that they can
find a way to hit on these day three picks.
So here's hoping that's the case. Back to the phone lines,
(26:24):
Troy is up next, Troy, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Brother? How are you? How you doing?
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Fellas good?
Speaker 5 (26:30):
Yeah? Net fourth plus the salary cap love it. Secondly,
I heard something in earlier that with all our young
wide receivers there's only maybe David Moore and Hunter Renfro
that could be cut and not have to clear waivers
and be resigned. And I just heard your set your
(26:54):
practice cloud guys, and Hunter Renfro's not on there right.
But I think Dan and Dave had that conversation with
Hunter Renfro. I'd be surprised if they didn't. I think
they're storing him in the weeds. I don't know what
the rule is with now that they're at fifty two.
Once adam Is deal is signed and he's gone now
they're at their fifty two roster and they add that
(27:16):
guy back to get to fifty three. Not sure about that,
but I would be shocked if they didn't have that
conversation with Hunter renfro of, Hey, you're the guy we
need to cut because you can come back for free
as opposed to going through waivers.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Yeah, we had that discussion yesterday. There are a lot
of folks that are starting to get Some people aren't
freaking out about it, but those who really wanted him
on the roster are still holding out for that. And
we talked about it yesterday. It's possible, and I wouldn't
be shocked if they do it, Troy. I appreciate the
phone call. And it might not be that he's back
for weeks, right, I mean it could be. This could
take a while, and especially if, like we talked about,
(27:53):
Hunter doesn't want to play anywhere but Carolina, then yeah,
you know he can sit back and they can take
their time on this. Plus, he hasn't played since twenty
twenty three. He didn't have a huge season with a
ton of catches. He got to I mean, he'd suffered
a hamstring injury in camp. They've got to be concerned
about his ability to stay healthy having not played tackle
football for two years, so they can slow play this
(28:13):
if this is the only place he wants to play. Now,
my concern is, you know, he maybe got the itch,
and Atlanta's like, hey, buddy, we might need some help here.
It's close enough to Myrtle Beach. Will you come playing Atlanta?
And then the answers yes, and he ends up down
there with the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
I was going to say, at that point, though, you're
only worrying about two three teams really picking him up.
If he wants to stay local, it's Atlanta, maybe Tennessee,
maybe DC, maybe DC, and that's about it unless he
wants to go to Florida. But I don't really think
that's him. So I don't think so.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
No.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
I mean, I guess Jacksonville could be in play, but uh,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
It's the humidity's beat here, Mas. What humidities like in Duvall.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Well, yeah, all right, let's go back to the phone
line Syracuse.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
DJ. My man is back. What's going on?
Speaker 6 (28:53):
DJ?
Speaker 8 (28:54):
What's going on?
Speaker 7 (28:55):
Fellas?
Speaker 8 (28:56):
Yeah, some of the same points you guys are hitting on.
I mean, I'm not one hundred percent mad about the
deal in trade. I actually you looked at it in
the grand geven things as some of the other receivers
who have gone for a lot less when the most
recent when it comes to mind, Deebo Samuel went for
just a fifth rounder. So I think it's pretty much
(29:18):
a steal. But you guys mentioned we may not go
a big money free agent with the money that we
have right now, do you think this money is going
to be used to extend somebody? And if so, who
you guys think that might be.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
That's a good question. Now, that's a good thought. I
appreciate that's actually a good point. That might be. Who
knows that might be? For icky could be.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Now, the Panthers currently sit what nineteenth in salary cap
space with roughly twenty three million dollars per the latest
numbers from over the cap. I don't, to be honest
with you, I don't know if those numbers are updated
to reflect the Adam Deeling cap savings.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Probably not considering how tedious of a process that would
be to do that for all thirty two teams right now.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Yeah, now I know that by I think by bringing
in Mathis from Denver, they cut into that a fair
amount if I'm not mistaken, but twenty three million dollars
if cap space is what overthecap dot Com currently shows
the Panthers to have. Admittedly, I didn't check that earlier
in the five hours since the trade, so I don't
know if it's been updated to reflect that yet or not.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
But that's a great point.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
That's why we told Zach, you know, it's probably not
for a big free agent acquisition. It could be for
a trade to absorb salary, it could be to extend somebody.
There are multiple reasons to keep cap space going into
the season. That could be one of them, and I
think they've learned their lesson too, like especially if Ikey
gets off to a good start. I mean, let's be honest.
The Taylor motent extension snuck up on everybody between his
(30:34):
emotional press conference that day and all the things that
we talked about going back into the summer and the
spring that they weren't restructuring, they hadn't extended him.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
They could have drafted.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
It looked like they could have drafted the tackle in
Day one or Day two, right.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
So we thought there was a chance they were just
going to take their medicine into the last year of
the deal. Let him become a free agent and you know,
keep the books clean, and then boom, here comes a deal.
So as long as Ikey doesn't start out in disastrous fashion,
look at the guys that they probably shod, should have
locked up earlier the last couple of years and it
cost him money, or in Brian's Burns case, he's not
here any longer.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
And call some draft picks right, yeah, that too.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Like I'd say, they've probably learned their lesson about you know,
getting guys locked up early.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
And unlike Dave Getteman and Marty Herney or Dave Gettelman specifically,
they're not afraid to do deals within the season. We
saw that happen last year with Chewba Hubbar Chuba Hubbard
got signed in late November. I could see something similar
happened to Ikey I Kuanu. If we get for the
trade deadline and he's bawling out, I could see Dan's like,
all right, let's bite the bullet right now, let's get
it over with, and then it turns out to be
a better move because then you get the mark. Yeah,
(31:34):
and may look like a big amount of money right now,
but then three or four months from now, whenever there's
a big new deal coming in place, it's like, oh,
it actually isn't that bad. Because if you can beat
out Seattle specifically to get a new deal for Charles Cross,
I think that'll be big.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
All right, I'm with you seven oh four, five, seven
oh ninety six ten, Hit us up on the fan
duel text line. Doug Gillan app state a d is
coming up in about seven minutes. We'll talk about the
Duke's Mayo Classic with him, new head coach, new quarterback,
new lots of things. We'll talk to Doug Gillan at
three forty five. Right now we go to smoke on
the headlines.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Who is smoke? Where is smoke? Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Let's go what's the latest.
Speaker 9 (32:13):
Well, big news day for Cameron Jarrell Newton because Kyle
he has just signed a multi year deal to be
have an expanded role with First Take on ESPN and
Stephen A.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Smith.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Basically, what this means right here is he's taken place
of Shannon Sharp.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Yeah. I mean it's a good role for him.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
It's a great role for him.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Oh, perfect role for him in his sport Yeah, to
be up.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
There debating energy mid morning show. It's always made a
lot of sense for Cam Newton, so good for him.
Congratulations Panther's representation in the national media.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
You got that. Yep, absolutely, And just here's my time
to say I was right. A couple of years ago.
The Baltimore Ravens have reached in a contract agreement to
extend Kyle hamiltonto safety four years, one hundred point four
million dollars, making him the largest contract in NFL history
for a safety. Told you guys he was worth a
top ten pick despite being a safety.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
You did you said that?
Speaker 6 (33:08):
All right?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Well, come back Doug Gillen, athletics director, ab State Mountaineers.
They got a big one in Uptown on Friday. We'll
talk about it next. Sports Radio ninety two to seven
wfn Z. Busy, busy day in the Panthers universe. Roster
(33:41):
cutdowns yesterday, the roster continues to churn today. The practice
squad is set. We have upset fans about Hunter Renfro,
mostly Honter Renfro. We're talking about that they've got cap space.
That's a hot topic of conversation today. And has there
ever been a male version of Taylor Swift, I think,
so far, my favorite answer is Vis Presley, although Michael
Jackson's right there too. Michael Jackson Elvis Presley probably the
(34:05):
two leaders in the clubhouse right now.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
We'll get back to it. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Maybe Doug Gillen has a thought on that. Probably not.
He's a professional athletics director for the app State Mountaineers
and he doesn't care about such trivial things as pop culture,
I'm sure, but his squad has a big game here
in the Queens City on Friday. New head coach Dow
Loggins and the app State Mountaineers a proud program coming
to Bank of America Stadium to battle Tim Albin and
the Charlotte forty nine Ers the Duke's Mayo Classic, and
(34:30):
we're giving away tickets today. All you have to do
is text the word app app and only the word
APP short for Appalachian of course, to the FanDuel text line.
You have until five point thirty to get in to win.
Let's welcome in and welcome back Doug Gillen, athletics director,
Appalachian State University.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
He's back with us on the hotline. Doug.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
It's good to have you back. My man, how you been.
Speaker 7 (34:50):
Hey, it's great being back. I appreciate you all having
me on today.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
You're not a swift ye, are you? I probably know
that already.
Speaker 10 (34:56):
And I would not categorize me as that.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
I knew it. I knew it. Are you?
Speaker 2 (35:02):
You have bigger fish to fry this week? Y'all got
a big ball game. Let's just first talk about big
picture stuff. I got a lot of friends at the
Charlotte Sports Foundation. I watched this game take place year
over year. We love it. The city loves it. I
love watching the fans roll in. What does it mean
to you and to APP State Football and APP State
Athletics to be involved in this event?
Speaker 10 (35:20):
Well, I think it means a lot, and we really
love being down in Charlotte. Obviously, it's a great market
for US, Mecklenburg County being the number one alumni market
for APPS stay. Plus, we got a lot of fans,
future fans, future, you know, recruits, whether it be for
just students or student athletes.
Speaker 7 (35:36):
Charlotte's just a great market.
Speaker 10 (35:37):
So we love being down here.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
What what's it like in terms of your all's preparation
for this game, both on the ticket sales side and
handing handling alumni. But you know, getting the team down
here and into hotels and field like, it's a big undertaking.
I'm sure this week to make this all go off correctly, Yeah,
it is.
Speaker 7 (35:54):
It's a big undertaking.
Speaker 10 (35:55):
But you know, every every weekend's a big undertaking when
you're moving an entire football team, no matter where they're going,
you know, for here. The great thing about the undertaking
in Charlotte as we come down early, you know, I'm
already in the market, have a lot of meetings in
the market with different folks and different friends of the program,
and so that that is really beneficial to have, you know,
all of our staff come down and really kind of
(36:16):
take our show on the road in front of and
being the you know, the largest alumni base in the state.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
We got Mike Hill coming up later in the show.
Excited to talk to him. I know, you know him well.
He's got a program that's still very young and still
finding its way. You've got a proud program that has
a history of championships and big time expectations. But this
game versus Charlotte, what does it mean to participate against
them in particular? And is this something you want to
continue into the future. What kind of potential does this
(36:43):
rivalry have in your mind?
Speaker 7 (36:45):
Oh yeah, I think it's that great potential.
Speaker 10 (36:47):
You know, Mike and I are really close friends, have
a lot of respect for him, and with the job
he's done at Charlotte. You know, we're you know, we
played a bunch over the years. We got a bunch
more scheduled over the next couple of years.
Speaker 7 (36:58):
So this is, you know, a matchup we look forward
to every year.
Speaker 10 (37:02):
Both our fan bases look forward to it.
Speaker 7 (37:04):
I think it's only growing.
Speaker 10 (37:06):
And you know, when we talk about economic impact and
how can our universities really affect the economy of our state,
is schools like Charlotte Lake APP and other schools in
our state playing each other and keeping commerce in the state.
So I think it's good for everybody and certainly good
for the city of Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
This weekend, Doug Gillen app State Mountaineers. He's with us
here on the hotline talking about the Duke's Mayo Classic
coming up on Friday again. Text in to win tickets,
text the word app app only the word app to
the fan duel text line to get in to win.
Registration closes at five point thirty. Your head coach Dal
Logins was on the station a couple of weeks ago.
As much as any other new coach in the country,
(37:43):
I am fascinated to see what dal Logins does with
this program. He's got an extensive NFL background, played it
at Arkansas where he was a quarterback, was under Stan
Beemer at South Carolina, and now he's running your program.
What's the transition been like and the guy that you
hire as had those expectations been met? Did you get
what you thought you'd get in dew logging so far?
Speaker 7 (38:03):
Yeah, so far? Absolutely, you know undefeated. As as we
sit here and speak, we'll find out here pretty soon.
But in terms of the way that he runs a.
Speaker 10 (38:11):
Program, the way that he communicates, the way that he
cares about the college model, the way that he cares
about Booe, North Carolina and app State, I think all
of those are a great fit and exactly what we
were looking for. Love what he's done with his coaching
staff and the recruitment not just to this current roster,
but of our future rosters. So it could not be
more happier with the job that Coach Loggins is doing.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Doug, what is the.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
House settlement and the new landscape of college football mean,
for app State, how do you operate within it? How
do you maximize your opportunities the best?
Speaker 10 (38:41):
Yeah, I think that's a great, you know, great word
within it, you know, you know talking you know, the
total house settlement. We got to stay in our lane.
We got to make sure we can compete where we can.
Speaker 7 (38:50):
We can't, we.
Speaker 10 (38:51):
Can't you know, grow certain things at the you know,
at the detriment of other programs within our university and
certainly within our athletic department. We're fortunately this year that
every one of our programs saw on increase in budget
this year. We were able to do that through some
cost cutting measures but also some increased revenue generation. We
need to continue to generate revenue, but we also need
(39:12):
to stay in our lane and realize as the house settlement,
as revenue share becomes real for all of us. You know,
we're not in the twenty point five million dollar game,
but we need to be in you know, at the
best in our level, at the group of sixth level.
And that's what we strive every day, is to make
sure that we can get creative and innovative, innovative and
entrepreneurial to make sure we can provide and compete at
(39:32):
that level.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Well, you made the jump from f FCS to FBS successfully.
You were, you know, immediately in bowl games and contending.
So again it goes back to you being a proud
program that's always been able to compete. But what are
your thoughts on all the new proposals for a college
football playoff and the expansion and sixteen teams and you know,
even the Big Ten bringing twenty eight teams to the table.
What are your thoughts on how app State fits into
(39:53):
all that.
Speaker 10 (39:55):
Well, I think app State just needs access, you know,
I think the important part for all of us is,
you know is really in some ways, you know, protecting
college football, you know, not letting it become something that
it never was intended to be, and making sure that
education still is a leading driver and everything that we're doing.
But we you know, when we look at you know,
the college Football Playoff and different proposals, et cetera, you know,
(40:17):
our interest is how do we gain access?
Speaker 7 (40:19):
And right now we.
Speaker 10 (40:20):
Feel like, you know, if we are the best group
of six program, we're going to get access. And that's
in the current format. You know, if the formats grow,
then hopefully our access grows. That would seem to reason.
We are, you know, sixty five to seventy programs in
the group of six, so we're over fifty percent of
what is the FBS football playing institutions, and those are
round numbers. Of course, haven't done the exact math, but
(40:42):
so the group of six needs to and I think
continues to have to have some access at whatever proportional
levels there might be. And I think that's important for
the continuation of college football. And you'll see even at
our level, you know, whether it's our coaches are going
to different you know schools, or our players are going
to different schools. I do believe we have an intricate
(41:04):
rule to play in the future college football, and we
don't really need to get pushed out, not suggesting that
we are.
Speaker 7 (41:09):
We just need to continue to have those opportunities.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Does the new financial circumstances in college football, however you
want to frame it, does it concern you at all
about you know, the future of non revenue sports, Olympic sports.
I bring that up because I've seen a lot of
folks the last several weeks saying, hey, this is all
great for football and men's basketball, maybe women's basketball. But
this is going to lead to sports being cut at
various universities across the country.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Is that a concern you have.
Speaker 10 (41:35):
Not not an Appalachian consern I have an Appalachian You know,
everybody else has got their own budgets to manage, et cetera.
But like as I mentioned, every one of our budgets
grew this year, and that's across the board. And so
you know, as we look at roster management, increase scholarships,
you know, we were able to increase scholarships, increase opportunities
for student athletes to come to Appalachian. We continue to
want to make again education as the forefront and continue
(41:58):
to provide education opportunities for students in co curricular opportunities
so they're learning in the fields of play, but also
in the classroom.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Anything else.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
You want the fans in the area, alumni in the
area to know about Friday's game before after during? What
do you want the folks out there to know about
what's happening on Friday?
Speaker 10 (42:15):
I think you just got big time college football right
here on Friday night national television. We need a lot
of folks in the stadium. I think both programs have
done well selling tickets. Still plenty of tickets available. Get
folks out there and support two great in state institutions
in Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Doug, always a pleasure catching up. Thank you for making
the time. We'll see you Friday.
Speaker 7 (42:34):
Yeah, I appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
I'm great today, of course.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Doug Gillen, Athletics director, app State Mountaineers with us on
the hotline here on a Wednesday. They play Friday at
Bank of America Stadium, and I've not seen a spread
on that game. I don't know why I haven't looked
at that yet.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Smoke. Have you seen a spread on that game?
Speaker 4 (42:50):
I forget, but I took the under on the over
under fifty two and a half. I'm like, considering how
new both of these teams are, I can't see it
getting over fifty two and a half when I did
it on Monday.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
So it was fifty two and a half on Monday. Yes,
the over under, m I'm looking at it. Okay, well,
all right to come down quite a bit. Yeah, I
think you did the right thing there. It's come down
to forty eight and a half. Oh uh and then
app right now favored by four and a half points.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
It like, I just look at this game, and unlike
last year's where I could last few years where I
could probably give a somewhat of a guestimation, I'm just
looking at it. I'm like, I have no idea what
to expect from either team, nothing whatsoever. Both of these
teams feel like two complete unknowns. We just know all
we know really are about the coaches. That's really it
for me, and I think that's gonna make it somewhat enticing,
(43:38):
especially for a lot of local viewers. The fact that
we don't know anything about these teams and both teams
are starting with a clean slate.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
Yeah, I think you did the smart thing taking the
under fifty two and a half. That's well done. All Right,
We're gonna step aside. I do need to mention that
the game Cocks fans are slowly starting to trash talk
me on the FanDuel text line ahead of Sunday's game
in Atlanta. Gamecock Moody as soon as we opened up
the show said, KB, your Hokies are gonna get run
out the building on Sunday. You'll be having nightmares about
(44:04):
Lenora's Cellars until your kids are in college. Then then
when I didn't respond, seventeen minutes later, another one, the
Shane train is coming KB and you're standing on the tracks,
go cocks, to which I responded, gobble gobble mf or
on the text line, I used asterisks, okay, so I
couldn't get in trouble with hr. Could be any that
could be any word at the end there and then
(44:25):
he says, have smoke record you crying when you see
Frank Beamer in Carolina colors when they honor him before kickoff. Listen,
I think Frank's gonna wear a very ambivalent like garnet
slash maroon colored like jacket that you know is very neutral.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
That's what That's what I expect.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
I expect him to sit behind Shane on the South
Carolina side.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
That's his son. I would do the same thing.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
It is gonna break my heart or shee if he's
like out out and out wearing game cock here, like
that's gonna bother me.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
It's gonna be funny because remember when we talked to
Shane back in January, he said, it's not Frank daddy's
worried about it.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
It's his mom. His mom's like, oh.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
Well, you see you can go over from coach prior
or something like that.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
It's like really torn on his mom's hokey throwing through
for sure, and so is Frank. But you know, I
get it if my son was in his how is
anybody out there do they feel differently that if you
were Frank Biemer and your son was coaching opposite your
alma mater where you played, or you coached and put
him on the map, Like are you rocking the the
(45:23):
enemy gear that day to support your son or are
you keeping it neutral.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
It's a similar to Limita to what Archie was with
when Peyton went to Tennessee. Yeah, because so many Ole
Miss fans got mad at Archie's like how could you
not let her hit your son go to Ole Miss?
Speaker 3 (45:36):
You let him go to Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
Yeah, So stuff like that, and then you know he
tried to wear as neutral colors as possible. Had He
basically tried to wear a hat like he was a
unibomber and also listened to the game on the radio.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
He was easy to spot, but he tried.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
If your son was on the other sideline coaching against
your alma mater, is it automatic that you would don
the enemy team's gear to support your son, or would
you have to at least keep it neutral seven oh
four five seven oh ninety six ten. I want to
know what people think. Give me your honest answer. Our
