Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Kyle Bailey Show powered by
Victory Chevy Charlotte, where just nineteen dollars down could put
you in a brand new Chevrolet.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Today Hour over two.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn ZKB and Smoke
Queen City. You're celebrating right back to back wins for
the Panthers. They're back to five hundred for the first
time since twenty twenty one. They are in the mix,
and that's what all of us, a lot of us
asked for, most of us anyway before the season began,
be in the mix well. At three and three with
the Jets coming up on Sunday, they are zero to six.

(00:41):
They've yet to win a football game. It is lonely
down there at the bottom as the lone winless team
in football. Carolina goes in as favorites at least as
of now, but it feels like a trap game to
a lot of people. Steve smith sang as much they
were a second ago. We got all week to talk
about that. Right now, I want to celebrate and focus
on the win, but a chance to be above five

(01:01):
hundred at four and three, if they can win on
that's allowed. Smoke I know you're checking the rule book
over there. Carolina is in fact allowed to be above
five hundred. So we'll see. Maybe next Monday we're celebrating again.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Again, not trying to get too hard or not too
far ahead of ourselves here, but man, what a place
to be three and three with the zero to six
Jets coming up on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, so this is the first time they've been five
hundred since November twenty twenty one. This almost feels wrong
to talk about the team winning on back to back
weeks and being at five hundred. Kyle, Yeah, I yeah,
And we've been doing this for a while now, like
we've been together, I think for nearly eight years.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
We haven't been able to do this at all in
our three years. Yeah, it's been few and far between,
to say the least. So that's where we are right now.
Jay Flow just said, I've listened to WFNZ all day
and no one has even mentioned that coach Wilkes is
the defensive coordinator for the Jets. He's going to try
his best to shut down our run game to prove
a point. Love him to death, but I hope he
doesn't succeed. jFlow from g Town. Well again, we have

(02:00):
all week to look ahead to the Jets. Right now,
we're just, you know, marinating in the fact that Carolina
beat the Cowboys, won two straight, got back to five
hundred balanced offensive attack. Rico Dawdele looks like the man
at the running back position, which we haven't talked about
much yet. But what the question keeps coming up on
the FanDuel text line, what do they do about the

(02:21):
Rico Dowdle Cuba Hubbard situation? And to me, it couldn't
be more simple, Like, I think this is the Rico
Dowdell is your starter moving forward. I'm a baseball guy.
You don't mess with the hot hand, and you don't
mess with the guy who's you know, hitting the ball. Well,
you don't take him out of the lineup. Same thing
in football, same thing in basketball. You don't mess with it.
So even if Cuba is healthy and can play this weekend, awesome,
that's great. You want them both. I hate when Rico

(02:44):
comes off the field. I hated seeing DJ Dallas on
the field in third down situations yesterday. Couldn't stand it.
I got nervous when Rico had to raise his hand
and ask off the field they're late in the game.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I don't like it.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
And we felt that way last year with Cuba earlier
in the season, waiting for Jonathan Brooks to get out there,
hoping that that two headed rushing attack, that tandem could
finally start to form together, and we didn't really get
any of it. So to me, it's simple, Rico's your
starter until he's not. But you're still and the split
should probably be somewhere between sixty forty sixty five thirty

(03:14):
five for a while. Cuba has already gotten a second contract.
Cuba was a leader inside the locker room. Cuba is
a competitor. Football is a violent sport. Guys get hurt.
There's a chance Rico Dwell gets hurt at some point, right,
So this is simple to me. Rico's your starter moving
forward until he's not or unless Cuba takes it back.
You make it work, that's what you do. You just
make it work. Because we've all been clamoring for a

(03:36):
two headed rushing attack around here ever since they you know,
Dan Morgan took over and we started to see that
idea come back into the frame. Stop rushing guys to
you don't have to figure this out. Quote unquote, Rico
has earned the right with four hundred and sixty three
whatever it was scrimmageyards the last two weeks to continue
to get the bulk of the carries for now and
to be the starter for now. If it changes, so

(03:58):
be it. But this is a phenomenal problem to have.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
And plus, here's the thing, I also believe that you'd
need to keep with Rico because it's not like he's
had two good games. He's had two amazing games.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Folks.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
There have been a lot of great running backs here
in this franchise and it's short, relatively short history. He
just broke the record for consecutive runs or most rushing
yards in consecutive games. That was a tie between de Angelo,
Jonathan Stewart, and Steven Davis. He tied that and broke
that record early in the third quarter. I mean, this
is this historic level stuff that we're seeing here. So

(04:30):
it's one of those things that's like, you'd be an
idiot not to do it.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Now.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
I think they understand it, but I also think they
want to get too bit more involved than they got.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Trevor at In in DJ Dallas, I don't think.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I think what's the big thing is is he's going
to get spelled a little bit more, but the drop
off is not going to be really that severe at
all because Schoba Hubbard is good in his own right,
and when he's been out there this year, yeah, he
hasn't had the gaudy numbers, but he's been efficient if
you look at his yards per carry, So I also
think that's going to be pretty good. I just think
Dave Canalis, if you need to, someone can get Jonathan

(05:00):
Stewart's self on number. He can tell you all that
you need to do. That's really what it comes down to.
And I think you'll be perfectly fine. But don't rush it, man,
don't rush it at all. And if finish though, if
anyone wants to say, well, sign Rico Dwell on trade Cuba,
don't do that because that's a short side of move
and that's what's got you in the last five to
six years in the first place. And plus don't say
sign Rico Dawell. Just ride it out this year, see

(05:21):
how it goes. Figure got the end of this season,
this this franchise is he posts your child for why
you don't pay two running backs at the same time
on the team.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah, dude, to figure this out at the end of
the season. There's no reason to mess with any of
it now, Shaggy just said. Rico himself said in the
press conference, he won't have to worry about cramping up
with Chuba back exactly. You think she was mad about
a slightly lessened role. He's already been paid. You know,
he's not fighting for his contracts. Still, they love him
over there. He's a leader. He's going to accept the

(05:50):
role that that's been given to him. They want to
be a two headed tandemis it is? Let it go,
just let it ride. This is a great problem to
have at.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
The end of the year. Figure this out.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
And two it's also point as you said, I think
it's big because they've been using him like North Turner
uses running backs the last few weeks, and understandably so
because he's been that damn good.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But it's not sustainable.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Hold on nine to one to two from Georgia just said, KB,
y'all killed me. I drafted Rico and you guys said,
Rico's on a one year deal. He won't do anything.
I dropped him due to their what are you talking?
You dropped him due to our advice. Bubba, you were
listening to the wrong show. What are you talking about? Plus,
we didn't force you to do anything. Oh that doesn't
even No one here said that I predicted the Rico
dabble game against Miami. We all knew he was going

(06:32):
to be jacked up against Allas, Bubba, we didn't. That's
a different show you're talking about. We didn't tell you that.
I promise we.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Don't really give out fantasy advice.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
I don't give out fantasy advice because I don't play
fantasy football. Seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six ten.
Hit us up on the fan duel text line. Let's
take some phone calls. Brandon is up first here in
the four o'clock hour. What's going on?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Brandon?

Speaker 6 (06:49):
Hey, Bud Hey?

Speaker 7 (06:50):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (06:51):
Do you probably think that Dave can alice to finally
open up his playbooks with Bryce or you think he's
just more trusting? And also, do you think that by
Rico being out there that it's opened up the passing
game for Bryce? Or is that Bryce just being awesome yesterday?

Speaker 3 (07:07):
No, I think you want to be a balanced offense.
I think yesterday was the sweet spot Bryce throwing the
football twenty five times. And listen, they're not going to
run for two hundred every game, of course, but you know,
if you're getting a running back, if you're running attack
is producing one hundred plus yards a game, and you
can be balanced. I mean, that benefits every quarterback, and
Bryce Young is certainly no exception.

Speaker 7 (07:25):
Right right.

Speaker 6 (07:26):
Do you think that Dave Dave canw it's finally finally
starting to trust Bryce a little bit?

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Oh yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Think he trust him to run the offense. Does Bryce
have some limitations, Yeah, there's no doubt about that, but
I think he absolutely trusts him to run this to
run this offense.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
Yeah, yeah, Okay, one last question. You think that his
playbook was kind of limited last year and this year
before starting to kind of open it up downfield and
not just five yards six yard passes here and there.
You know what I'm trying.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Oh yeah, Well, when you're running the ball effectively and
defenders have to creep up towards the line of scrimmage,
you can throw it over the top of them and
that opens up things on the back end.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
I agree, Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Thank you, Brady, appreciate the phone call. Buddy seven four,
five ninety six ten Carolina j is up next.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
What's going on? Jay?

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 8 (08:13):
Man?

Speaker 4 (08:13):
I think it's fair to, you know, keep this whole
thing in context. So one number one, I am. There's
always a great day when you when you beat the Cowboys, right,
but I wanted to put it in context.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Right.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Well, against we were down seventeen against the Dolphins, right,
people were talking about Bryce, they were talking about Canalis
and I was the one talking about him as well.
In that game down seventeen, they became to be a
balanced offense that you know, you guys asked the question
what it's going to be like when Youuba comes back.
I can tell you, guys exactly what it's going to be.

(08:46):
It's gonna be double trouble. It's going to be double
the fun. It's gonna be Bryce having a balanced offense
where he can now have that company. This is what
Dave Canal said he was going to do. So hopefully
he can do that, because hey, guys, the limit guys,
if we can be balanced, have our defense, keep them
off the field, keep them long drive. We are in business.

(09:09):
And the last last thing I'll say, man, is Jimmy Horn,
you know when he gets in the game, we run
on that option. Man, we make this defense kind that
we make opposing defense is kind of you know, have
to play multiple options on the field. So I'm excited
about what's going on, guys, and when we play a
balance offense, I think guy's a.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Limits absolutely great phone call. I appreciate you, Jade. That's it,
like they every football team, for the most part, wants
to be incredibly balanced. And I say for the most
part because you know, Philly's winning super Bowls right now,
well won, but they're a run heavy team, right That's
not typical around the rest of the NFL. Most everybody
else is looking to be balanced, and so Chuba coming back.

(09:48):
That's why again, I think most people get it. But
there's no problem here with chubun Rico as far as
I'm concerned. I've had a few people say, well, yeah, KB,
but it's more about what do you do with Jonathan
Brooks respectfully, and I will emphasize with all do respect,
not in the Talladega Nights way, with all due respect,
I don't care about Jonathan Brooks right now. I'm not
even sure he'll ever be a factor. I hope he recovers.

(10:08):
I hope he becomes a great player. Seems like a
great young man. But after he tore his ACL again,
immediately after tearing it to Texas, he got put on
the shelf, like in the back of most people's minds.
And I we'll worry about that if he ever gets
back on the field and looks like the guy who
they thought he could be coming out of Texas. The
NFL is not for long. We all know that sometimes
things don't work out. That's why they signed Rico Daddle

(10:30):
to begin with. You know, they don't know if Brooks
will ever be a real factor here. Maybe he is,
if he is awesome, if he's not. I think they've
done well by themselves to plug that hole obviously with
Rico Dawdle. But with these two backs, and hopefully even
with a slight difference in style, they're not being much
of a drop off when one comes off the field.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
This is a great problem.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
I don't mean to be repetitive there, but this is
the definition of a great problem to have. Seven oh four, five,
seven oh ninety six to ten.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Hit us up.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Back to the phone lines. Jonathan is up next. Jonathan,
how are you feeling today.

Speaker 7 (10:59):
I'm feeling good, Kyle. I bet, I'm just trying to
figure out excuse me, I'm just trying to figure out
how these Cowboys fans gonna talk all this crap before
this game and then after the game they tend to disappear.

Speaker 9 (11:15):
That part is where that part, to me is where
I'm really kind of feeling some type of way because
I've been at the Panther flan.

Speaker 7 (11:23):
I've been getting you know, oh, we're gonna come to
Charlotte and we're gonna do this, and then yeah, we're gonna,
you know, Carolina takeover. No Dallas takeover.

Speaker 9 (11:31):
But I'm like, wait a minute, y'all didn't win, so
we all at it.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Oh, yeah, there was a very they were much more.
They were much more tame after the game out in
Uptown yesterday.

Speaker 7 (11:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (11:44):
And one thing I did like what I seen yesterday
is that the defense kept Dallas one dimensional. They put
Javonte with they limited him. And that's one thing I'm
starting to notice that the ring game I run defense
is improving game by game and it's gonna get better

(12:05):
by the end of the season. Todd, It's gonna get
better because again, like I heard you mentioned, Turk being out.
You gotta as he gets healthy as the season goes along,
that man, that defensive line is gonna be crazy with
him and Bobby Brown and Dag Brown, Oh my god,
and with the two.

Speaker 7 (12:24):
Rookies on the end. Oh man, Yeah, I was.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
I was just man.

Speaker 7 (12:29):
They kind of felt like.

Speaker 9 (12:32):
A cloud was lifted over my head, even though it
was kind of clouded, but.

Speaker 7 (12:36):
It was still still felt good.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
I like that.

Speaker 9 (12:39):
I just listen again, and I want to say this,
and anybody else's listening, if y'all know any Cowboys fans,
hold them accountable because they they came to Charlotte and
took over Bank of America Stadium and.

Speaker 7 (12:54):
Got that check cash.

Speaker 9 (12:55):
So I need everybody to hold the Cowboys fans accountable accountable.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
I like it, Jonathan, good phone call. They're nowhere to
be found today. There's no question about that. They are
drowning in their sorrows and their tears online on YouTube
in their podcast bemoaning the fact that they lost to
the lowly Carolina Panthers, which is something that most teams
are doing recently when they do lose to the Panthers.
But they're not around trash talking anybody today. That's for sure.
Evan from DC, our nation's capital. Let's get Evan in

(13:21):
real quick. Evan, how's DC. What's going on?

Speaker 10 (13:24):
Hey?

Speaker 11 (13:24):
Doing well? Guys, Happy Monday.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
And you too.

Speaker 12 (13:27):
So rather than to be.

Speaker 11 (13:28):
Hashing what I'm sure has been discussed at nause and today,
I forgot, I try to bring something fun to the table,
and I think smoke. I appreciate this, giving the way
his mind seems to work. But so I think it
was Mark twenty s that the history doesn't repeat itself,
but it often rhymes. And I was thinking back to
twenty thirteen and the outcomes of our first seven games
that year were.

Speaker 12 (13:49):
Lost, loss win loss win win win. Now, god, well,
when we beat New York.

Speaker 11 (13:56):
On Sunday will be replicated that exactly this season. But
that's just pretty thirteen. There were two games that were
pretty pivotal, I think, and sort of define that we
had something especially going in Carolina, and that was a
road game at San Francisco and then a following Monday
night game at home against New England.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
As you guys know.

Speaker 11 (14:13):
We've got games coming up against Buffalo and against Green
Bay following.

Speaker 7 (14:16):
This Jets game.

Speaker 11 (14:17):
Obviously not the same weeks as those games three thirteen.
But you know, to be clear, I'm not expecting that
we're going to wind of those games. But I think
we're finally to the stage as a franchise where we
can at least look at this team and say, hey,
what do we really have going on here? And I
got to say it's reassuring and kind of exciting to
re least be costly waiting into that sort of new

(14:39):
stage of the franchise. So anyway, not really relevant, figure
out throw that out there.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
I'll take it off the air.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Now, listen a great phone call. Hope, DC's treat you well.
I mean, listen, start one in three win eight straight.
I mean, that's kind of a hard thing to.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
What it was. I believe nine street, it was eight smoke.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
It was eight Vikings, Rams, Bucks, Falcon, Niners, Patriots, Dolphins, Bucks,
and then lost to the Saints.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Oh yeah, okay, sorry, I was at the Bucks game.
Did I know a thing that you didn't know? That's
just shut up? How was at the game?

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (15:08):
How's that that Bucks game when they tied it for
eighth straight. Anyway, No, but I was going to point
out the point, you know, I'm just saying.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I'm not saying.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
I think I mentioned that they were one and three
after the Pats lost, but I'm not going to get
my hopes up there.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
But I also want to mention.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
That twenty thirteen year, they had a game where they
played the Saints, had a game and I had a
game in between that, and then played the Saints again
for Battle for the NFC South.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
They played the Bucks late in the year.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
Yeah, then they play Seattle, then they played the Bucks again.
Just saying, just saying, just saying, all right, listen, we
got phone calls still to get to. I promise wide
open five o'clock hour. I see our buddy Johnny is
back on the phone lines. I love that we got
to get to Craig and a few others. We'll take
your phone calls, but first we come back. We chat
with Eric McLain ACC Network for a few minutes, and

(15:54):
then we resumed taking your phone calls. On a Panther
victory Monday Sports Radio ninety two seven in WFNZ, Panthers
win and it's a great day to be a Panther fan.

(16:16):
Back to back wins sent the Cowboys home with a loss.
Hokey Pokey on the text line. One of my brethren
saying that the Cowboys did not take over the fans
did not take over. Va A yesterday said there were
way more Cowboys at the game last year than this year. Honestly,
Miami had more fans at the bank last week. We'll
come back to this. We have a full bank of

(16:36):
callers to get to, so hang tight. Johnny Phillip, p
Mack Corn, Cob Craig calling in from Nebraska. Boy, We're
gonna have some interesting conversations with Craig because he's a
Panthers fan in Nebraska. He's one of like four crossover
Panthers Cornhuskers fans that we have here on the station,
I think. But Matt Ruhle, the leading candidate to replace
James Franklin at Penn State, Boy, that's a conversation as

(16:57):
James Franklin was fired over the weekend and pink slips
more of them being handed out across college football. That'll
be part of the conversation right now with Eric McLain,
ACC Network college football analyst, former Clemson Tiger offensive lineman
back with us for his Monday College Football conversation.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
eMac, what's going on? Brother? How are you this week, man,
I'm just living the dream.

Speaker 9 (17:19):
Man.

Speaker 12 (17:19):
It's a crazy point in the season. We got coaches
flying off the shells, We've got rumors, we've got great football.
It's just a normal you know, college football Monday.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Yeah, completely totally normal. But no, in all seriousness, though,
you think about the jobs that are going to be
open at the end of this year, the ones that
are already open now, and the ones that may come
open at the end of the year. I mean, I'll
throw Mike Norvell being back on the hot seat. That
feels like down in Florida State right now, we might
have some massive, massive job openings.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
It's not that we haven't seen.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
This before, Eric, but we are in a new era
of college football where you know, it seems like the
patience is even thinner than it's ever been. What do
you make of this? Are we in a new era?
And what do you think this coaching carousel is shape
up to be?

Speaker 10 (18:00):
Well?

Speaker 12 (18:00):
I think these you know, athletic departments and board of
trustees and presidents seem to stop signing these huge freaking buyouts,
like let's learn from history. You know what I'm saying.
It's crazy to see these numbers on top of when
we're spending the most money we ever have on things
that have not been too predictable when it comes to

(18:20):
revshare getting dumped on athletic departments out of nowhere, Here's
here's a twenty and a half million dollars line item.
Here's all these different things that you know just pop up.
So it is fascinating, to say the least, when you
see how these you know, deals are shaping up. But
also it is a new era. It is one of
those you know, just new things of the transfer portal

(18:41):
is available, You're able to have an allotment of resources
to go and you know, pay and have a salary
cap for players, and there's less room for mistake. It
feels like because of all these things, it's not so
much of sit around and wait. And also the the
you know, margin for patients is so much thinner just
because of these things. But it also doesn't help when
you have guys like Signetti coming in year one, going

(19:03):
to a freaking playoff and hammering Oregon because that's what
everyone looks at. Why can't you do that?

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Unbelievable?

Speaker 3 (19:09):
I mean, it also goes to underscore how we talk
about talent evaluation in the sport, but like hiring coaches
is still, in its own way a talent evaluation game.
And the fact that Kurt Signetti didn't get his first
head coaching job at all, I think until he was
like fifty one, his first P four job he was
sixty three, Like, how did so many people miss on
Kurt Signetti?

Speaker 12 (19:29):
Yeah, man, super weird when you see it. But you know,
everybody runs their race, and he is renting right now.
And it's funny. I heard you say the Matt Rules thing,
which I do think a lot of folks are mentioning that,
but it feels like he's a hotter name right with Signetti,
it's just can you fork up the dollars to go
and get him? I don't know. And then Manny Diaz

(19:50):
another guy that I've seen a lot of former players
from Penn State hammering and saying, listen, this is one
of the best leaders we were ever around. This guy
gets it. Look what he's done at Duke, Look what
he did at Miami. I'm fascinated to see where that
Penn stage job goes.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Oh me too.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
And I've also got a handful of Carolina fans today
more than I expected, saying, let's just go on and
get rid of Belichick and bring James Franklin to Chapel
Hill with it. Franklin streets already named after him. So
you know, you got branding opportunities and things of that nature.
We talked to you a week ago prior to the
explosion of all of the reporting that you know, set
off the conversations about, you know, could he be done

(20:27):
mid season?

Speaker 2 (20:28):
How bad are things?

Speaker 3 (20:29):
You know, do stories of dysfunction and preferential treatment inside
the program? Well, this morning, Bill Belichick says, all the
rumors are categorically false. You had the chancellor of the university,
you know, sitting out there is like in Carolina dignitaries
out there today talking about all that. I rolled my
eyes in the sense that I absolutely believe those conversations
were happening. It's ugly, Eric, Like, what weigh in on this?

Speaker 2 (20:52):
For me? How bad do you think it is? And
what should Carolina do about it?

Speaker 12 (20:55):
Yeah, I'm right there with you. I rolled my eyes too,
because it's just it's such an interest saying and it's
an interesting time, Like I get it, there's you know,
bad things happening, and maybe you don't want to make
them worse. And maybe there has been that, you know,
reassurance that hey, are you guys all in, I'm all in?
Are you all in, I'm all in? You know, kind
of those things, and it's I think at the end

(21:17):
of the day, what we saw happen in lifetime was Lombardi, Belichick,
everybody involved one thousand percent underestimated how hard college football is.
I think these guys came in thinking we did this
in the NFL college no sweat off our brow, this
is going to be easy, this is going to be
totally something doable with without having to dig in without

(21:39):
We'll just show up and get guys. And we know
that's clearly not the case. And what made it even
worse and even more frustrating was when I heard I
believe it was Lombardi. I don't want to put his
name on something he didn't say, but someone said, we
got it's a total rebuild. Well, it's a total rebuild
because you brought in seventy of the wrong people. It's
not like you inherited that. You inherited nothing because they

(22:02):
all left. And so that that to me was just
another thing that just irged my nerves. Man just let's
have some use humility. Let's say that that we messed up,
and let's go back to the drawing board instead of
just excuse after excuse, crazy thirty third team in the NFL.
I mean, all that stuff, it's just it's wild to me.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
I agree. I agree.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Now, back to the aforementioned coaching carousel coming up. I
don't know if Florida State will be a part of
it or not, but I do know their fans are
pretty displeased with Mike Norvello after the past couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
You beat Bama.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
When you do that, you're not expecting to be three
and three after six weeks and zero and three in
the ACC. But they lost thirty four to thirty one
to Pittsburgh on Saturday. What do you think of the
the up and down roller coaster nature of their season
so far?

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Who's the real Florida State?

Speaker 7 (22:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (22:46):
Well really, I think what this shows a brother it
mayb is that the ACC is the toughest conference in America.
I mean, we can manhandle Sama, no problem, but conference
players very It's a meat grinder.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
It's a gauntlet. Eric, it's the gold.

Speaker 12 (23:01):
Then you hit the gauntlet, man, you know, we beat
each other up, we're tired in postseason. Whatever excuse you
want to throw out there is uh is always funny.
But no, I do think it's fascinating, to say the least.
And I'll say I've been very uh, you know, matter
of fact about Norvel and think that he is a
great coach. And I said all these things about it.
It's just a really you know, kind of strange time

(23:23):
and the way they've lost, particularly coming off of these
you know, this two and ten season and you're kind
of saying he's the guy, and man, I had a
bunch of holes in my DM saying hey, brother, love
you love your opinion, but we're tired of this. And
when that adds up enough, man, you know, it gets
deafening and people start to listen. So I don't know,
I still do think he's a great coach. I think

(23:44):
it's just so unusual to beat a team like Alabama
the way that they did, I mean physically dominated them,
and then to you know, really look the way that
they had and that's just uninterested at times and waiting
too long to really get it going on all and
you know, you're zero three, which is just crazy in
the acc after the start that they had.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Does Clemson hammering a bad Boston college team do anything
more but improve their record? Or was there something in there?
I mean, I'm seriously does it? Was there anything in
there that made you more confident that this team is
back on track?

Speaker 12 (24:18):
I will not be confident about anything until SMU and
post SMU and post Duke. Then we can have a
better conversation on Clemson. Was it nice to see? Yes,
two weeks in a row, we saw Clemson play very
confident football. We saw their offense play at a very
high level, which is fun, and you hammered teams the
way you're supposed to. So it's crazy. If you just

(24:40):
kind of had a blind resume and we just saw
the results of those games, we'd be like, oh, yeah,
Clemson's doing what we thought they would. We wouldn't know
that they look, you know, horrific leading up to that.
So was that bye week, you know, three weeks ago,
perfect and a great reset and everyone's playing at a
high level. Now we'll see and what just does that mean?
You know, is there any type of you know, outstanding

(25:02):
postseason opportunity on the horizon. I think that would take
utter chaos for anything of that nature. Maybe a nice
bowl game, but you know, at the end of the day,
you're fighting for your legacy as a Clemson player and
ultimately trying to continue to get better and build this
program back to what it was.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
You mentioned Manny Diaz and Duke there a minute ago,
Manny in particular because of the Penn State opening. But
they've got a huge game coming up this weekend. Georgia
Tech is going to Wallace Wade Stadium. I'm a believer
in Georgia Tech and the brand of football that they play.
They took care of my Hokies on Saturday, and they're
going to Duke this week six and oh, three and
oh in the ACC. I think they win the game,

(25:39):
but I also think Duke is going to make them
earn it.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
What's this one look like to you?

Speaker 12 (25:43):
Yeah, such a huge game. We're going, Man, We're going
to be there the ACC huddle. Cannot wait to be
in Durham. We'll have our show live, have some former players, coaches,
give everybody you know kind of great analysis on that game.
And excited to be back in the Bull City there.
And man, really, the way I look at this game
that this is a this is an acc playoff game
like this is potential eliminator from playing in Charlotte. When

(26:05):
when you look at kind of the three headed race,
the three monster race that I think is occurring for
that second spot, assuming that Miami's going to be in,
it's between Duke Virginia and Georgia Tech there. And so
the interesting thing is Duke plays both of those teams.
Duke controls their own destiny, also plays Clemson just for

(26:25):
style points there. So I'm expecting a war. I mean,
you've got two very different teams. You've got a team
in Georgia Tech that wants to control the ball, wants
to grind it out, you know, just make you hurt
every single play with the way they run it, the
way they throw it, the way they do different motions
and try to trick you that way with alignments. And
then you've got a dupe team that really is hitting

(26:46):
on a lot of cylinders right now. I mean, the
run game has been instrumental for Darien Mensa, and I
think that's opened up his passing attack even more. It's
been really fun to see that young freshman in the
backfield just exploding. I mean, he's like third the in
the Conference, I think for rushing yards. So it's been
great to see that and excited to see how they
continue to build on top of their defense. Man Duke's

(27:09):
defense has been it's like they just woke up one
day and remembered who they were. You know, they get turnovers,
they get in the backfield, they forced, you know, the
opposition in a really tough spot. So I think it's
going to be an absolute battle and will be interesting
to see who dictates the tempo of the game. Can
Georgia Tech make it, you know, nasty and slow and
grind it out or do they have to keep up
with dukeshigh line offense?

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Why did I.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Wake up this morning and see that YouTube screwed over
you and Aaron Murray on your new college football show.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
What's going on with that? What did you two do?

Speaker 12 (27:37):
You woke up? Yeah, you woke up to the truth.
I don't know what we did. We did nothing wrong.
But the good thing is we have a lot of
friends and I guess high places when it comes to YouTube,
because all is well, we are back, the channel is
back live. It seems like YouTube's going through some AI
type stuff and we got caught in the crossfire. But
all is well on our channel. I appreciate you checking
in no doubt.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
All right, last thing here, I don't want to leave
them out. Well, they did beat a really bad football team,
so I'll preface it by saying Oregon State sucks like
out loud on ice. Oregon States frigging terrible. But how
good do Wake Forest fans have to feel right now
about the Jake Dickard hire given the opening struggle against
Kennesaw State, but now being four and two two and
zero conference through the first six.

Speaker 12 (28:18):
Weeks, let me just tell you something KB, This dude
is on track for winning Coach of the Year at
the end of the year. I mean we expected n
a from Wake Forest. I mean absolutely nothing with the
way that we thought there was going to be with
some of the guys that they lost, some guys that
they brought in that there were just huge question marks
that we didn't think were you going to be able

(28:39):
to play at the level that was expected in the
ACC But we knew they kept demand Claiborne and we
knew that that was a huge deal and they have
been on fire. That team is so fun to watch
a lot of complimentary football, And you're right it was
not a good team that they beat, but they have
been playing at a very high level. Should have beat
Georgia Tech had that one taken away from them. There's

(28:59):
no question about that. And uh, they're just they're one
of those teams right now. You don't really want to
see him on the schedule, like you're you're thinking, like, ah,
this is gonna be tough. It's gonna be tougher than
we thought in regards to the preseason. So I've been
thrilled with the effort and the execution from Wake Forest.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
It's been awesome.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Deshaun Perty by the way, filling in for Robbie Ashford
had himself a big day the Charlotte forty nine ers transfer.
They got options at quarterback. It's a good place to
be if you're a Wake fan. Eric, thank you as always, brother,
have a great week. We'll talk to you next.

Speaker 12 (29:26):
Monday, no doubt my man appreciate you.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Eric McClain eMac back on a Monday, former Clemson offensive
lineman ACC Network College Football analyst with us each and
every week. A slower week in the ACC, but still
interesting things to get to. I did look down and
I had one listener screaming at me. Panthers talk buddy,
We'll do it. We do it every Monday. We check
in on college football Monday. We'll do more of it tomorrow.
But eMac on Mondays is a must listen and we

(29:49):
appreciate his time. Seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety
six ten. We're gonna come back and take your phone call,
so hang tight. But right now we go to smoke
on the headlines.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
All right, this is going to be an injury report
brought to you by our friends at Neogenics, specifically for
the college game kid Clubnick.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
You know, for Clemson's win.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
It was good against Boston College, but Kid Clubnick got
a little nicked up with his ankle, was rolled his status.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
I think he sounds like a cord of daboswing.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
He's going to be good to go on Saturday against
SMU and, which is going to be a very intriguing
matchup in THEACC. But in the bad bad news, we
go to Penn State because not only did they fire
James Franklin, but now this one's kind of frown this
story underneath the bus. Drew Aller, who was expected to
be the first quarterback to be taken in the first
round since Carrie Collins back in nineteen ninety five. His

(30:42):
year has been underwhelming to this point, and now he's
out for the remainder of the year. And again I asked,
all due respect to him, hopefully he gets healed up.
Which of these twenty twenty six quarterbacks has lived up
to the hype this year? Like, and I mean lived
up to not who's played the best of the Who's
lived up to the hype in twenty twenty five so far?

Speaker 3 (31:00):
That twenty six draft class, I wonder we were never
talking about in ty Simpson. Yeah, like Dante Moore was
not a part of that conversation at Oregon.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
They just lost of course, right.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
I mean, Fernando Mendoza has thrust himself into a conversation.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
He had his moments a cow, but it never popped
out like this.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
But like we were talking about this much, you know,
bally hooed twenty twenty six quarterback class. And once again,
like you and I joke every year, man, that next
class and then you get further into the season and
that class is just not wowing anybody.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
I mean, the Lorris is trying, it's just everything else
around him is not really.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Well, South Carolina fire their their offensive line coach after
that disaster on Saturday. They got issues. They've got issues.
It's not all it's not all the Norris. There's no
doubt about that. Officiating was not great in that game.
And I wanted to get to that by officiating a
general who crack. I mean, listen, officials have a tough job.
They do, but it does feel like officiating's gotten worse.

(31:53):
You asked a good question. It brought something up good there.
Where does James Franklin end up next? Because for all
this talk about the fifty million dollars buy out, it's
a big number it is. It will be offset when
he gets a power fore head coaching job, and I
believe he will get a power fore head coaching job.
Where do people think James Franklin ends up next? We'll
talk about it. We'll take your phone calls. It's all
about a panther Monday. We'll take those calls on the

(32:13):
other side and wide open five o'clock hour, Sports Radio
ninety two seven wfn Z.

Speaker 10 (32:26):
Sety, get on your feet, Hello, good protection.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Throws of the ensign. Can you got to the box?

Speaker 10 (32:39):
He's gotta go coming on side back to.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Rush running into the area. It'll pass to.

Speaker 8 (32:45):
What uprights for pett.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Tyer who balled out?

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Powered by High Performance real Estate Advisors and the biggest
dad gumballer of them all, Thomas L.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Rodd.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Go to high Performance real Estate dot Com and they'll
see you at the closing table.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Smoke what you bring for the people. Well, I gotta
go with the Manners and cal Raley.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
First off, Cayl Ray hitting a home run to tie
the game that led to the Manors winning Game one
to the Alcs. But what a weekend to be a
Mariners fan. They win in fifteen innings, and they must
win game in the Alds against the Tigers, and in
less than forty eight hours later they take Game one
on the road in the Alcs. Absolutely bonkers weekend to

(33:35):
be a Mariners fan.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Yep, Mariner's up one to zero in the series. They
play Game two tonight. That one actually starts. I believe
in five today, correct, coming up in a few minutes
Dodgers and Brewers tonight, Game one at eight oh eight.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
I didn't know you were going baseball there. I am too, even.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Coming off a massive, massive football weekend. Honorable mention of course,
I got to mention Rico Dowdle in this because he
was incredible yesterday, but I wanted to make sure we
honored one of Charlotte's own. Mike Shilt is retiring as
the San Diego Padres manager with two years remaining on
his contract, saying, quote, the grind of the baseball season
has taken a severe toll on me mentally, physically and emotionally.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
End quote.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
He's fifty seven years old and informed the team on
Saturday he would retire nine days after the Padres were
eliminated by the Cubs in a tense three game wild
card series. Said he made the decision on his own.
He led the Padres to the postseason in each of
the two seasons he managed. The franchise went one to
eighty three to one forty one. As the manager there,

(34:35):
Padres won ninety games this season, finished second in the
NL West, and Before joining the Padres in early twenty
twenty two, he was the manager of the Cardinals from
twenty eighteen to twenty twenty one, posting a winning record
in each of his first three full seasons, and was
the NL Manager of the Year in twenty nineteen after
leading the Cardinals to ninety one wins and an NL

(34:56):
Central title. The Charlotte Native Olympic Trojan al lum University
of North Carolina, Asheville Bulldog alum and former head coach
at West Charlotte Mike Shilt hanging it up at fifty
seven years old. Tip of the captain, Mike Shildt on
a hell of.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
A career and to your point, ever since he got
unceremoniously fired by the Cardinals, in which he got a
massive September run from that team to make it to
the playoffs, how's the Cardinals been?

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Not great?

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Not great, not great to think that's Saint louis not great? Bob,
All right, let's take some phone calls wide open five
o'clock hour as well coming up, so we'll get to
all these and we got a full bank of callers
right now, but as one drops, you can get in
seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six ten. Let's
lead things off with P. Mack hearing the final segment
of the hour. P mac, what's going on?

Speaker 8 (35:41):
Oh man, guys, I had to call in for this
Panthers win again. I mean, gosh, we haven't felt this
at least and I hate to say it like Matt
Rule's first year where we won, like we went three
and oh to start the year, you know, and we
were feeling pretty high. But man, two in a row,
Oh Man, that's feeling super good. I just wanted to say,
I just think the Panthers are on this one. I
feel really good about where Dave Canalis is kind of

(36:03):
learning a little bit about what he wants to do
and where he wants to take the team.

Speaker 12 (36:06):
And it's good to.

Speaker 8 (36:07):
See the the teamwork that's being done on both the
offense and defensive side. But I think, I mean, we
can make a team, you know, one dimensional, but it
doesn't help if you can make them one dimensional and
they can.

Speaker 12 (36:19):
Throw all day over you.

Speaker 8 (36:20):
So that's a little bit concerning, and I just want to,
you know, make sure that they can shore.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
That up with the r dbs.

Speaker 8 (36:27):
But everything else is looking really good. And I had
to call in to say that I'm super proud to
be a Panthers fan today.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
You know, absolutely, thank you, p Mack. I appreciate you.

Speaker 7 (36:35):
Buddy.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
George Pickens is an elite wide receiver. I'll just I'll
say that up front, Mike jack Mike Jackson did not
have a great day, let's say yesterday. I also don't
know how many second and third corners are going to
match up with George Pickens, you know, in those man
situations and have a great deal of success. I mean,
George Pickens got J. C. Horn once or twice yesterday too.
Sometimes these guys are just gonna win.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
And I was listening to when I was listening to
the Cowboys post game, a lot of the concern was
that they were getting a lot of the same stuff
we got from Pittsburgh, saying, hey, this might be another
Deontay Johnson situation. Apparently, by all accounts, he's been a
model citizen down there in Dallas because he realizes it's
a contract year. He didn't sign a long term deal
with Dallas because he wants to get paid more. He
is looking for big, big, big, big money. And I

(37:20):
mean he's playing like it right now too, because he's
got over five hundred yards already this year. So that's
what he's looking for right now. And I think the
talent has always been there with George Pickts. We've never doubted.
It's just can he not act immature? And so far
in Dallas he's been very mature. He was a monster yesterday.
I mean I worry more.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
I would have worried more yesterday, and it might have
been different had Ceedee Lamb been out there. We all
know that's a factor, but he wasn't. The Panthers are
missing three offensive starters, so nobody's crying for the Cowboys
about that. But get me some of the coverage stuff
they'll they'll need to clean up. I know people are
still upset that J. C. Horn doesn't get to travel
with the best the team's best wide receiver. That's just
a Varro's defense, and so long as he's here, I

(37:59):
think that's the way things are going to be. Philip
is up next on the line. Philip, what's going on?

Speaker 9 (38:06):
Hey?

Speaker 12 (38:06):
Gab got me?

Speaker 2 (38:07):
I got you? What's on your mind?

Speaker 7 (38:08):
What's up?

Speaker 12 (38:09):
Man?

Speaker 4 (38:09):
Hey?

Speaker 12 (38:09):
I got one thing? Uh oh, buddy.

Speaker 5 (38:11):
Earlier talking about these Cowboys fans getting missing, uh three
guys that were for me Cowboys fans. Guess how many
called in sick today?

Speaker 2 (38:20):
All three?

Speaker 5 (38:22):
All three of them, every one.

Speaker 12 (38:25):
KB.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
I can't make this stuff up. How do you hope
people accountable when they disappear?

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Man, it's funny, my guy, Brandon Gandy shout out to him.
He texted me yesterday during the pregame show, and he says, damn,
these cowboys fans don't grow out of concrete. He said,
they show up, they grow out of concrete. They show
up everywhere, but when they lose, they are nowhere to
be found.

Speaker 9 (38:46):
Nowhere.

Speaker 5 (38:47):
Hey, one more thing, Uh, I've noticed something in the
past two weeks here.

Speaker 6 (38:50):
The offense has a different look for Bright.

Speaker 5 (38:53):
As far as the passing scheme goes. I think it
might have been the Miami game. He was throwing a
splint over the middle, hit one the d lineman right
the faith. I feel like a six four or sixty
five quarterback might not have done that. But we're looking
at what might be like different passes. Have you seen anything?

Speaker 12 (39:07):
Could you elaborate on that baby on.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
The batted passes?

Speaker 8 (39:11):
No?

Speaker 5 (39:12):
No, no, not that I think just a different scheme for
Bryce is Canal is kind of letting him do what
he wants feel more comfortable with. It just seems a
little different than one and two, and it's looking good.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
To be honest, well, I appreciate the phone call. I
don't think there's anything drastically different. I just think they
were they're more balanced right now, they're able to get
the run going. They're forcing defenders up closer to I mean,
when Rico's gashing you for six seven yards of pop,
you know, these guys are having to play closer to
the line of scrimmage and it opens up opportunities down
the field like we saw yesterday.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
And credit Bryce.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
You know, Bryce, who I think is still getting comfortable
under center. We've seen it get better, but there were
some moments yesterday that Greg Olsen pointed out where Bryce
just has to get used to, you know, coming out
from under center, play action, setting his feet, things like that.
But Bryce stood in there with a lot of traffic
around him on a couple of occasions yesterday and made
some nice throws. One to Mitchell Evans over the middle
early in the game comes to mind. Held a second

(40:03):
touchdown past to McMillan. I mean, what a nifty little move,
Bryce turning his shoulders of avoiding the rush, stepping up
with a crowded pocket and firing it through the window
to Tetro McMillan. I mean, that's the kind of stuff
you want to see from Bryce.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
I don't know if he does it at this point
last year that type of Freddy He made it Teora
in the end zone.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
He did a couple of those things last year, but consistently,
you're looking to see him do that consistently. All Right, well,
come back, Corn, Cob Craig is up first. When we
come back. We got Jersey Frank, we got PSL Sucker,
A couple of phone lines open, seven oh four, five,
seven ninety six ten. Are you adjusting your expectations for Carolina?
After back to back wins, getting to five hundred zero

(40:39):
to six jets on the horizon, possibility of getting to
four and three before the schedule, you know, really starts
to ratchet up a little bit. With Buffalo and Green
Bay coming up in the not too distant future, we'll
talk about it. Sports Radio ninety two seven WF and
