Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by
Victory Chevy Charlotte, where just nineteen dollars down could put
you in a brand new Chevrolet Today, Power.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Number two Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z KB
and Smoke emanating live from the Chandler VAULTA Studios, the
Carolinas Personal Injury Lawyers. One call, that's all go to
Cvinjurylaw dot com. That's Cvinjurylaw dot Com. The NFL trade
deadline is coming gone and the Panthers have traded for nobody,
as I expected would be the case. They are standing

(00:47):
pat at the deadline. Although there were a couple of
roster moves today, and I'm gonna take a phone call
here in just a second. I'll squeeze as many as
I can in throughout the course of the show as
we always do seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety
six to ten. But there have been some roster moves today.
The team signed running back DJ Dallas in safety Israel
Mukuamu to the practice squad. Both have been with the

(01:08):
Panthers this season. Guard ja Tyree Carter was signed as
a practice squad exception and to make room on the
practice squad. They released quarterback Hendon Hooker, tackle Michael Tarquin,
and linebacker Carlos Boogie Basham. So those are the three
roster moves in THEE the three corresponding moves. But as
for now, Hendon Hooker is no longer a Carolina Panther,

(01:31):
and I just don't know that one was really ever
destined to work out. So we'll see if he can
find his way onto another NFL roster. More on the
Panthers coming up in just a bit. Jake delom is
fifty six minutes away. Very much looking forward to that conversation.
We'll also get Joe Ovius's thoughts on Carolina Ovius and
Julio podcast. We'll spend a good bit of time though
on the triangle on Dave dorin NC State, their big

(01:52):
upset win, how that may end at the end of
the season, and of course Bill Belichick and the Heels
getting their first win of the ACC season. So stick around.
But right now, let's take a phone called Robert wants
to talk about the Panthers. Robert, what's going on? Buddy?
There we go, We got you.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Yeah, this is a kind of bittersweet here. I mean,
I guess they had to try to get something. But man,
that's all I gotta say about that. I mean, if
we got a chance to get yeah, I thinks, go
they should beat you know, they should win get the
same the same fun the fire Sale. They should win

(02:32):
against the UH they should win against them. And then
for me, after that, the Stockings game, as as I think,
is a swing game. It's cracked. I'm not looking at head.
Let's let's take care of the thing first. The other
thing is it caused basketball time, baby. And as a

(02:53):
Duke fan, I've watched them play the first two exhibition games.
This team is totally focused on getting back to what
they got last year and beyond. I love the makeup
of this team. I just think that I just think

(03:13):
they're gonna do special things to see, even starting tonight.
But as far as the Panthers go, I mean, I
don't know what else you could do. I mean to
me that the one thing that Panthers need is a
guy who can take the top off. And for the
people who are talking about Bryce, I'd rather have a
guy that's that, you know, that comes up clutch and
clutch times, you know. And this is the last thing

(03:35):
I'll say when the Packer scored that touchdown was just
mere did Bryce Bryce Young has a looking at his
face is like, young man, let's get this done.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
You know, look at face he does.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
He's got that leadership. Look, Robert, I appreciate you. Your
phone lines a little bit spotty right there. Yeah, I mean, listen,
I think Bryce is a leader. And I've said that before.
I think Bryce is a leader. I think the guys
see him as a leader inside the locker room. They
trust him. They certainly trust him in late game situations.
So yeah, I saw the look. I think a lot
of us did. It was great to see it. Smoke
what you got over there? Oh oh, got something going on?

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yes, So I didn't know.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
Ab Schefter has it tweeted, but Auri Mayerov tweeted this.
This also impacts the Saints game this weekend because the
Saints have traded former first round tackle slash guard Trevor Pinning.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
To the Chargers.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Really yeah, and look, I remember you were kind of
intrigued with Trevor Pinning because he was in that same
draft class as Icky Evan Neil and uh the guy
Charles Cross Yeah, from Texas A and mdat tackle draft.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
But I remember we were talking.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
If the Carolina Panthers traded down and get to the teams,
Trevor Pinning would have been the guy. I think, Well,
it hasn't really worked out in New Orleans. The Chargers
offensive line woves have continued, with Joe Alt Junior being
carved off and out for the year after Rachelans later
got hurt. I mean that the Chargers have been the
only team that have had work injury luck when it
comes to the offensive line in Carolina this year. So

(05:03):
now they just made a move apparently to get Trevor
Pinning right before the deadline. So that means one last
offensive lineman on the depth chart for the Saints. That's
a starter, even if it's not been a good career
for Trevor Pinning so far.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yeah, I liked him a lot coming out of the draft.
I didn't think they'd get him, but I liked him
a lot coming out of the draft. So that's interesting.
All right, We're gonna come back to this weekend's game.
I don't know, we haven't really turned our attention toward
it yet. I think this one simple for me on Sunday.
We had somebody tell me yesterday. I think it was TC.
There's like, I better not hear you guys talking all

(05:35):
week about how much the Saints suck. I mean they
do suck, right, Like that's just the bottom line. They suck.
They're a bad football team. But wilder things have happened
in the NFL and Carolina. Yeah you won at Green Bay,
you're five and four, but there they can't be overlooking
anybody like we know it. I think they know it.
The good news is I feel a lot better about

(05:56):
this game being at the Bank than I do in
New Orleans because this should be a true home field
advantage on Sunday in Carolina. And if you're playing a
bad team at home with momentum and confidence in the
home crowd at your back, and the Saints fans should
not be infiltrating the Bank this weekend, given where they are,
it should be a recipe for success. But the second
we start counting our ducks, we know what happened sometimes

(06:18):
around here. So we'll just leave it right there for now,
at the moment we go to smoke with the best
audio in sports, What.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
Did you say?

Speaker 7 (06:25):
You?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
What? What did you say?

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Hold up?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Wait a minute, see me right?

Speaker 3 (06:31):
So what I mean by that.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Is all right, what you got? All right?

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Well, we start with our good friend JJ Jansen, who
was on the Mac and Bone Show earlier this morning.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
He was great and fantastic interview.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
You had great two rate interviews on Mac and Bald
this morning regarding the Carolina Panthers. You had JJ Jensen,
you had Jonathan Stewart. Bofodo's are all up on wf
and Z dot com right now. But you know, Matt
kind of compared this and said, is this kind of
like the twenty fifteen Seattle win. I didn't agree with it,
but JJ Jansen came up with the best comparison for
that win on Sunday in Panthers history.

Speaker 8 (07:04):
Actually, the twenty thirteen game at Candlestick versus Kaepernick. They
were the defending NFC champ. Jim Harbaugh was the coach,
and we won that game. It was ten nine.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
It was an absolute slug fest both sides.

Speaker 5 (07:16):
Didn Tilbert destroyed Eric that game, run him over.

Speaker 8 (07:20):
Colbert killed a few guys absolutely, Graham hit like Graham
hit like a fifty two yarder in the fourth quarter
or maybe late third quarter to.

Speaker 7 (07:29):
Give us a ten nine lead, and then it was
just again, it was just a low possession slug fest
in Candlestick that day.

Speaker 8 (07:35):
You know, Candlestick although not as.

Speaker 7 (07:37):
Old, I mean there's some there's trust me, there's tons
of history in that place.

Speaker 8 (07:41):
That sort of felt very similar comparisons.

Speaker 7 (07:45):
And at that point in that season we were four
and three and.

Speaker 6 (07:48):
Twenty thirteen and we had we had just gone.

Speaker 7 (07:50):
Over five hundred. We went to Candlestick and.

Speaker 8 (07:52):
We won that, and then and then we had we
had to come home. We actually played Monday night game
versus New England and Brady that's the the.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
P I O p I in the back of the
end zone. But that was kind of the start of,
oh my gosh, we're pretty narn good here, and now
we're beating good teams on the road. So that would
probably be the closest one to me.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
All right now, I am sure you either know this
or have looked it up already. I would not have
known this off the top of my head, so I
had to look it up, but you probably do. I'll
ask you anyway, who picked off the pass from Kaepernick
in the final minute to seal the win.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Was it Mike Mitchell? Oh wait?

Speaker 5 (08:24):
Or was it Drayke and Florence Crayight and Florence. No, no,
I remember it now. I remember it because Drake Florence
did not immediately go down, and I remember my dad
now were yelling.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Go down, just don't own yeah down. I figured you
might remember that. But Drake and Florence intercepted the pass
by Colin Kaepernick and Candlestick that day to beat Kaepernick
car Ball in the Niners ten to nine. Steve Smith
had six receptions that day. Graham Gono kicked a fifty
three yarder with ten minutes remaining that held up as
they won the game. DeAngelo Williams broke a tackle or

(08:56):
broke a couple of tackles for a twenty seven yard
touchdown run late in the first half that game.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
So that was a fun trip down memory lane with
JJ Jansen this morning.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
So, folks, if that's uh, if things go according to play,
that means Carolina loses in the divisional round to the
Green Bay Packers because Carolina lost to San Francisco into
divisional round that year. That was actually the last lost
San Frand ever had in the Candlestick Park.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
So yeah, Carolina, how about that? Carolina always seemed to
have San Francisco's number.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
What else you got?

Speaker 4 (09:23):
All right?

Speaker 5 (09:23):
Moving on to back to that game on Sunday. But
on the other side, unfortunately, Tucker Craft sustained a serious
ACL injury. That means he's out for the year. And
you hate to see it because Tucker Craft is a
fun player to watch. He was just on the precipice
of breaking out as one of the best tight ends
in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
That's gonna have to wait.

Speaker 5 (09:42):
But I do think some people maybe took it a
little too far, like his teammate Romeo Dops.

Speaker 9 (09:47):
Wouldn't wish that, you know, just on one of our
captains or even just your worst enemy. I don't wish
that on any man, and you know, tuckers and in
a better place. But again, you just gotta next question.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Please, I'm sorry, listen. I try to be a good, upstanding,
god fearing man and not mocking ridicule people. And that's
an emotional guy who's feeling for his boy. But my god, it,
Tucker's in a better place right now. I wouldn't wish
that on any man.

Speaker 7 (10:31):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I could think of like five people i'd wish a
torn ACL on, And maybe that makes me a bad guy.
But if you had, Like, I'm not wishing death on anybody,
I'm not wishing any you know, mortal injury on anybody.
But there are probably a couple of people in the
world that I wouldn't mind it if they tore their acl,
or at least I think they probably deserved it. Like,
I'm not asking you to start rattling off a list
of people that you think deserve a torn acl you know,

(10:52):
as an exercise of fun here on the show. But
I'm not not asking you either. You know, if there
were a person in the world, in the world of
sports in particular, you might wish a torn acl on,
I might like to hear about it on the FanDuel
text line. Or maybe just a terrible person in the world.
I don't know, but I just I was laughing and
Smoke showed this to me and he could attest to this.
My first response was, no, I can think of about
three to five people I would wish to torn acl on.

(11:14):
I gotta be honest. That was my first reaction. Hey,
but that just shows you that Romeo Dobbs is a
nice guy. And you know, Romeo, I know you're a
pretty much place.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
I know we're laughing at you now, but you are
a free agent this saw season. Bring you a guardian
cap here to Charlotte. I wouldn't mind. Oh he's a
good wide receiver, man.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
O that whole he's in a better place. Part just
killed me. Oh, it just killed me. Well, it makes
me think of I told you this.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
It makes me think of when Gordon Hayward's gnarly injury
happened in his first game in Boston. It was right
when Dwight Howard first got here to Charlotte, and I
remember he tweeted right as that happened, Lord help carry
him now or something like that, and we're all like,
he's not dead, Dwight, What are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Who would you wish to torn acl on? Seven Fox?
You know the text line is about to be lit,
you know it is. Who would you wish it torn
acl on? Sean Payton just came in. See that's perfect.
He could still coach. It wouldn't harm his his career
or his you know, ability to earn a living in
any way, shape or form. Sean Payton's the perfect answer
to that question.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Now that you mentioned a coach, it makes me think
of when Charlie Weisse got run over on a punt
and he was coaching in crutches in two thousand and eight.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
He's in a better place though. That was so good.
Oh it was. I can't believe he said that. Let's
see what else we Oh yeah, Tom Brady just came in. Yeah,
did you see Tom Brady cloned his dog. I didn't
spoil the audio, Dinna, there's no audio about this.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Tom Brady cloned his dog Juni is a clone of
his former pet dog Lua that died in twenty twenty three.
Tom Brady's weird for cloning his dog, right, Yes, Like
I know the science fiction books have been telling us
for decades that we were all marching toward this moment
in history. But we're just usually looking at a story

(13:01):
today that Tom Brady has the same dog that he
used to have because he cloned that dog and it's
the same dog genetically. He just changed the name.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
Just get another dog man, Just get another dog from
the pound.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
I mean, think about it, yeah, dude, Like that's where
I get to be the bleeding heart guide. I'm a
dog man. Like, there's so many dogs in the pound
that need a home, and Tom Brady's out here at
the hold On, hold On, hold On. At the same time, though,
I can't be a hypocrite. I gotta be honest. Like
my dog is my face. I love my dog and
he's the best dog ever. And I saw this story
and I was like, man, I would like to have
Bow forever. So I get it. I do understand it,

(13:36):
but it's just creepy and weird. And I also hate it.
I really do.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
I hate it.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
There's also movies called pet Cemetery that might throw you
off that idea too.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Just a hunch, okay, got.

Speaker 5 (13:44):
Anyway, Well, one guy who wishes he was in a
better place like Tucker Craft is daboswiney As. He got
fined after these comments that he made after a heartbreaking
loss to Duke, the first time Duke went to death
ally in won since nineteen eighty and a little bit
of a controversial call late in the game. Help Dabo
was not having any of this call late after the game.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
I remember the passing appearance play already and that it's
not the reason that you just take us through what
you saw on that play.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
I saw, o, p I what did you see? Well,
I'm asking you, did you watch it.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
I didn't get a great angle.

Speaker 8 (14:21):
Would anybody else watch it?

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Did you watch it? Do you think it was defensive
passing aperence?

Speaker 9 (14:32):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Anybody else?

Speaker 6 (14:35):
Anybody else kind of opinion?

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Did you? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (14:38):
I thought it was a first.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Year Okay, I mean I was wondering. I mean, am
I the only one that's all questionable?

Speaker 6 (14:44):
I mean.

Speaker 7 (14:47):
The offensive?

Speaker 8 (14:48):
Yeah, that's what I thought he was called.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
That's what I thought. The call was congregated. I was
shocked he didn't call.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
I was shocked there wasn't a flag.

Speaker 8 (14:55):
And then when I saw the flag.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
I was like, oh good, called O p I and
so it didn't go away. Must just seeing something I
didn't see.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Well, they find him ten thousand dollars for criticizing the officials.
It sure looked like Terrell did not instigate the contact
with Brown on that play, and that Brown pushes Terrell
over look like defense holden for about tenure look, and
that apparently was enough for officials to deem that Terrell
was impending Brown. At least, that's the most let's say,

(15:27):
charitable interpretation of the call. And that's probably a stretch.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
I'll go ahead and say this, though, that play should
have never happened. Well that too, because there should have
been a passive affearance on Clemson to play before, so
we would never have to talk about this call the first.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Place we can.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
We can do that all day long.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
The refs actually did your job.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
But you know, Clemson fans just failed to mention that
because they clearly were tugging on jersey.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Fair enough anything else, No, I just want.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
To remind everyone that was Dick's first win in Death
Valley since nineteen eighty.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
Take that, Clemson.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
That's what did you say? The best audio in the
world of sports sales says he wants Matt rules Acl
to go in this shredder. We have Nick Sirianni coming in.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I mean it's getting personal on the text line, some
of these I would never read in a million years.
Nick the Amazon driver just said, David Tepper, Now, how
mad can you be at David Tep? Let's be honest
about this, all right. David Tepper has been a punching bag.
He's earned a lot of the criticism. I think he'd
even admit that. But how can you be mad at TEP?

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (16:23):
How how are you mad at Tep? The football team's
got a winning record. Finally, Matt Matt Rule's seven year
plan turned out to be right, just not for himself.
It was David Tepper that had the actual seven year plan.
F season the playoffs. David Tepper just got ACDC to town. So, like,
how mad can you be at TEP today? Let's be
real about that. You're not mad at TEP?

Speaker 4 (16:42):
Are you not? Right now?

Speaker 9 (16:43):
No?

Speaker 5 (16:43):
I mean if you want to get mad at him,
like I feel like you just got Collins spay to
s Bayden do what he did? You just throw water
at somebody. Yeah, that's what I would want to too
as a temper. Files ever mad at him like that
because he did it to someone else?

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah, all in and seventy all in since seventy nine
wants Paul Finebaum's acl. I know what good's that gounda do? Man,
It's not gonna stop him. Panther bo, says Dan Hurley.
Bag of doughnuts wants Danny Hamlet. Now let's leave Danny
alone this week. All right, we're leaving Danny alone. Uh aight,
oh three numbers, said Belichick and Jordan Hudson. All Right,
well now we're talking. Let's see if you have a

(17:14):
lot of Matt Rules on the text line. A lot
of Sean Payton's Vontes Berfect made his way onto the
text line. Well, he's into retirement, so he doesn't need
it that much anymore. I'm gonna stay away from actual
current players because that feels like bad juju. All Right,
we'll come back. Joe Ovious, one half of the Ovious
and Julio podcast Triangle Influencer. We'll get his thoughts on
the Panthers, but we'll see what he thinks happens with

(17:35):
Dave dorn At ears in they just upset undefeated Georgia Tech.
We'll get his thoughts on Belichick and more. Joe Ovious
Next Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Yeah the ground.

Speaker 9 (17:57):
Then, and not stuff the grounds like a mantle, he said,
went back a rama tanks crashed off the train, out
beat them, but went out.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Need that it's going to be out for Nate. Well,
the NFL trade deadline has coming gone twenty six minutes ago.
The Carolina Panthers didn't do anything except cut a couple
of players. No trades, but they did make a couple
of roster moves, most notably Greensboro native former Tennessee volunteer
quarterback Hendon Hooker is gone. Has been released by the

(18:25):
club to make way for a couple of other roster additions.
That's about it today. There were some notable trades, of course.
Sauce Gardner dealt to the Indianapolis Colts for a king's
ransom quentinnin Williams to Dallas. If you're picking up on
the trend there, it's a bit of a fire sail
in New York and apparently Breecee Hall is going through
it right now. Smoke, what did he tweet? Smoke was
cackling during the break about Breese Hall's tweets?

Speaker 4 (18:47):
What do he say? He tweeted and deleted, but I
still was able to keep it. Uh, did you screenshot?

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Tell me a screenshot?

Speaker 4 (18:53):
I didn't scream shot, but someone else did. But I
he said, I'm sick for my brothers.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Man.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
I'm happy for him, but I'm sick right now. Man.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Yeah, he's still stuck in East Ruth for New Jersey.
That's why. But anyway, it's nice to be able to
laugh at the misfortune of others around here for the
first time in a while. Panthers are five and four baby,
I mean, just a monster win in Green Bay on
Sunday after the beatdown by Buffalo the week prior, and
now the lowly New Orleans Saints come into town. Can
the Panthers get to six and four? Can they really

(19:21):
be in the hunt for the postseason? These are the
questions that we're asking these days. And it feels good
and we'll talk about that and some college football with
Triangle influencer, one half of the Ovious and Julie O
podcast and longtime sports radio host. In fact, after the
Buffalo game, I gotta throw this out there. We had
an angry listener that I talked about last week who
said that I and my colleagues here at wfn Z

(19:45):
would continue lying to the audience about the Panthers' ability
to compete in the National Football League, that we were liars,
and that we should be more like Joe Ovius, who
does not lie to his audience. So we have the
honest and truthful Joe Ovius back with us for a
Tuesday converse sation. What's up, Joe? How are you?

Speaker 6 (20:02):
You know I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm gonna
be honest with you, guys. When I saw meow Mix
was going to start podcasting again. I was gonna put
all my money on New Orleans this weekend. But you
know what, shame works.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Kyle, Yes, it does.

Speaker 6 (20:16):
Shame still works. And those guys thought the stunt would work,
it didn't, and we got Icky Aquanta and others telling you,
uh uh, you sit your asses down. It made my
heart swell a little bit. I was proud to see
everybody's shame of podcast back into not talking.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
I'm right there with you. I loved it, and they
made the right call. Ultimately, even if they were shamed
into it has the Panthers love and that swelling of
the collective Panther nation heart reached its way out to
the triangle. How are the folks feeling out there?

Speaker 6 (20:45):
Yeah, it's interesting. It's been somewhat conflicted in how people
feel about the Panthers, and I say shame works. I
think there was an element of not really trusting Dave
Canalis when he was insisting on a running back rotation.
I think what the Green Bay game proved to you
is that you can't trust anybody in the NFL, and
all you can really ask of your coaching staff is

(21:06):
to put your team in the best position to win.
I think that's what made people angry about the Buffalo game.
Andy Dalton the side. I think they got the sense
that Dave Canals was not putting this team in the
best position to win. That was clearly the case on
Sunday against Green Bay, and I think he won some
people over and how he went, I fine, we're going
to go Rico. He knew he's hurt, We're going to
still ride him, and it paid off for him. They

(21:28):
thought well enough ahead to think about how is the
win going to affect a potential game winning field goal?
And obviously Bryce Young not getting in the way. Again,
that's also coaching too, He's not one hundred percent. So
I think everybody's ultimately impressed and we'll see how the
rest of the season goes.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Yeah, I agree with most of what you said right there.
Sunday to me was about Dave Canalis and a zero
ever ro and the game plan. Like Greg Olsen did
such a great job of breaking it down. You know,
we had people. Of course, Joe yesterday said, well Bryce
only threw for one hundred and two yards. Well, I'm
not going to tell you that was the exact game plan,
but overall, that was kind of the game plan. You're
in a windy, cold environment, He's not one hundred percent.
You want to limit possessions, you want to run the football.

(22:05):
Like the week prior, we saw Josh Allen come into
the stadium, James Cook went off, Josh had twelve completions
for one hundred and sixty three yards. Josh Allen was
not the reason they won. And I think we're being reminded,
you've been around for a long time that running the
football and playing defense is still a major key to
victory in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
Yeah, it's kind of like what Dave Dorn was able
to do against Georgia Tech. Huh, Georgia Tech can't stop people.
All right, let's see we get this thing going. And
that's exactly what they did, and they came away with
a wing because all you're asking in that situation is
your own defense to do enough, which has been something
that NITEE State's been having problems with. But they had
a perfect game plan against Georgia Tech. They executed it
to a t and they got a big win on Saturday.

(22:43):
It's been an interesting weekend.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Man.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
There is so much stuff going on and so much
positive to talk about as it relates to football. I
almost don't know what to do with my hands.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
I was like marveling at it yesterday. This was one
of the great weekends that I've had in sports in
a very long time, and a lot of folks had
a similar experience. Just hey, real quick, last thing. The
Panthers will move on. Nothing done before the deadlines today
at four o'clock. I'm I want them to make a
run to the playoffs. I think that should always be
the goal, but I also think this is the year
before the year, and I didn't need them to do

(23:12):
something splashy by four pm today? What did you think
about that?

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Did none of you learn the lessons of falling for
the Scott Fitter? Laser eyes means you know, in every deal,
what did going in on every deal do for you
exactly other than gut your assets that you're still kind
of paying for right now. So hey, guys, enjoy being

(23:37):
above five hundred. Get a true assessment of where you're
at work on it this upcoming offseason, and then we'll
really get a sense of what this team is about.
Sometimes things take a little bit of time. I understand
we don't want that, and it's been a long time
for the Panthers and want you want.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
It so badly.

Speaker 6 (23:55):
I get it. But let's stick with this a little
bit and not get about more assets when we've been
complaining about now having assets in the first place.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
That's exactly right, Joe Ovius, Ovius and Jillio podcast hanging
out with us here on a Tuesday. So, Dave dorn Man,
I'm not plugged in like you and Jilli o are,
so I'll lean on you. But I've covered this league
for a long time. I respect Dave. I've had a
lot of good conversations with Dave over the years, as
you have, probably more than even I have. I like
the guy, I respect him, and there's all these rumors
about him retiring that have been going on throughout the

(24:25):
course of the year. Then we get to last week's
press conference and he says he's not thinking about that
and maybe that's some subterfuge and you know, sleight of
hand or something along those lines. That's what Chip Patterson
told us he thinks it is. Then they go upset
Georgia Tech, which I didn't think would happen, not missing
as much as they were missing on Saturday. What's going
on with NC State football? What do you think is
happening both now and a couple of months from now.

Speaker 6 (24:46):
I mean, I think it's as far as it relates
to the retirement talk, I think that requires some context.
My partner, Joe Jillio, if he was still in the
newspaper days, he would tell you that this would be
a report, not conjecture, that he would report that Dave
Dorn had to be talked out of retiring this past offseason. Now,
how does that inform what this upcoming off season will

(25:08):
look like? Who is to say, but Chilio can tell
you definitively. Yeah, those conversations were had. And what he
said in his press availability last week ahead of the
Georgia Tech game and he was asked about retirement stuff,
didn't really tell me anything. He's like, I got four
years left.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Cool, it might not.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
Be up to you if you're going to be at
MC state. So I just wanted to put that on
the table. I do think though, that the Georgia Tech
win brings out the conflicted feelings about Dave Dorn's tenure
at em C State in that So you're telling me
that your two biggest wins this year against top twenty
five teams Georgia Tech and Virginia awesome. But you also

(25:47):
have an embarrassing loss to an interim coach against Virginia
Tech at Halton. You also have a game in which
he kind of knows showed against Pitt. Explain that, right.
But Dave's going to have an opportunity to have a
very Dave Dorn year the rest of the way, with
winnable games against Miami and Florida State. We know they'll
be up for that North Carolina game against Bill Belichick

(26:08):
and they can get to a bowl after that. I
think there's going to be a conversation between Bookrgan and
Dave Dorn about the future of this program and the
direction of it. And I'll say this to kind of
wrap my point at Nancy State. What's going out in
Ncy State with Dave Dorn is a conversation that's going
to take place at around ninety nine percent of all
college football programs, including your own blog, Virginia Tech. What

(26:28):
are reasonable expectations?

Speaker 4 (26:29):
What do we want?

Speaker 6 (26:31):
There's not as much money as you think, so I
do think there's a recalibration of expectations and what exactly
do you want out of football that have to happen
at a lot of places, including enst the state.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
I like that answer. Carolina, they beat Syracuse Friday night.
We all know Syracuse is bad. That quarterback was horrendous,
but it's a win. They've been close to two weeks prior.
Does Bill Belichick finally have this thing moving in a
positive direction?

Speaker 6 (26:56):
Why are we doing this?

Speaker 2 (26:57):
I don't know. Why are we telling me because you're
out there, I'm not.

Speaker 6 (27:00):
I find it interesting that we treat North Carolina with
kid gloves and Bill Belichick. We keep moving the goalposts
on what Bill Belichick and North Carolina's about. I mean,
I'll get comments from listeners saying, I mean, look at
Alabama's first season. Look at Nick Daban's record at Alabama
his first season, as if Nick staved and Alabama and
Bill Belichick and North Carolina the same thing or the
worst one, well, you know they should be five and three.

(27:23):
I mean, look at Dion's first year at Colorado, as
if North Carolina and Colorado were in the same situations,
as if Deon Sanders took that job as a surefire
multi super Bowl winning coach that was going to turn
this thing around. The deon sanders Hire was an experiment
for a program that had been irrelevant for decades. North

(27:44):
Carolina has been good okay, and Mack Brown did not
leave that program decimated for Haaven's sake. So the amount
of goalposts moving for North Carolina has been interesting to
me because this is not what you signed up for.
As one of our listeners pointed out, these have been
some really expensive moral victories for North Carolina and Bill Belichick.
But as always in the Triangle, every football season comes

(28:09):
down to a trio of games, and that's what we're
set up for for North Carolina. Bill Belichick's year will
be decided on how he does against Wake Forest, against
Manny Diez and Duke who are in the ACC title hunt,
and NC State. That is what it'd ultimately come down to.
And if they lose those games, if they get embarrassed
in those games, those are the three games that are

(28:30):
ultimately going to matter and that will ultimately decide how
we view North Carolina season. Even I will come off
my position if they come out of those games with wins,
if they beat Duke and North and NC State on
the way out, and man tip of the Caps for
Bill Belichick. He did get this thing turned around, and
we'll see where it goes into the following season. I
don't expect it to happen, but that's where we're at.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Well, I wanted to pivot to something else because this
is in your wheelhouse YouTube, TV and ESPN. It's ugly
this week. I mean they tried to ruin my weekend,
that's for sure. I've been a faithful subscriber for years.
I finally abandoned ship on Friday. I'm over it. But
what's your take on why this is happening, Who's most
responsible for this and who's really pulling the most important

(29:13):
levers behind the scenes.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
Well, the most responsible party for this are your favorite
sports leeks. The price of the brick for the NFL
must go up. Team valuations must go up. The Hornets,
the valuation must go up, and eventually that cost gets
passed down to you, these sports viewer. So, if the
NFL wants to have record breaking TV deals guests, who

(29:36):
pays for it? Well, yeah, a broadcaster pays for it,
but who do they get passed down to us? So
as ESPN Disney continues to pay top dollar for the
NFL and other sports properties. Well, they're expecting more out
of their broadcasters. I'm not positioning this to take sympathy
for ESPN. I'm just simply giving you the cold, hard
business truth. The leagues want more money ESPN Disney has

(29:58):
to pay up for it, and they have to recoup
it some way, somehow, and that gets into a carriage dispute.
I will say this, though I have very This topic
doesn't move me the same way a carriage dispute would
have moved me ten years ago. And you actually just
illustrated the reason why. How easy was it, Kyle, for
you to change your plan?

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Very easy, very simple.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
Ten years ago, I'd have to get on the phone
with a telecom company and I'd have to go through
the phone tree of hell and then get like, oh,
well you know, if you stick with us for one
more year for fifty bucks less, how does that work, okay?
Or if you stick to your guns, well no, I
want to get a new deal. Well you gotta cancel.
Then you got to send the equipment back. Then you
got to call the other people, and then they got

(30:41):
to set up a guy that might show up between
six am and nine pm. Right, So the hassle as
a consumer is no longer there. So you're not happy
with this carriage dispute between ESPN and Google. Okay, you
know what you could do? Take advantage of any number
of deals that are out there. Phone carrier probably gives
you ESPN for free and you don't even know it.

(31:03):
You know what I mean. Disney Plus has got a
really good deal right now. It's really easy to change.
And I think where this all goes. I don't know
if ESPN's ever back on YouTube TV. I wonder that
they already have all their distribution. Why wouldn't you go
back to YouTube? Well, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
I jumped to Fubo because it's got everything I need.
My wife informed me last night that Disney owns eighty
percent of Fubo. I had no idea, huh.

Speaker 6 (31:30):
Just like I'm a Hulu subscriber. I didn't have any issues.
So you see what I'm getting at. Yeah, So there
are options out there for you. And if you prefer
the YouTube interface, you know what, give it a weekend.
You'll get used to the n E the other interface.
Like we're very, very spoiled in an era where it's
very frictionless to move on to something else.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
I'm not trying to be cavalier about it.

Speaker 6 (31:50):
I'm just simply saying, guys, we got a hell of
a lot easier now to switch than it was ten years.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
It's a great point. It's a great points why I
asked you, buddy. I appreciate the time, Thank you for
always joining us, and have a great week.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Take it easy.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Joe Ovius and Julio podcast Triangle influencer hang it out
with us here On a Tuesday, Andrew Norwell's agent saying
Fubo TV is where I went, and they actually have
fan duel sports network. I did the same thing like
I'm on the free trial right now, so we'll see
how it goes. But so far I like it. It
kind of looks like YouTube TV's layout in interface. I
don't think they have the multiview that might be trademarked

(32:23):
or copyright. I don't know how that works. But it's
got everything I need for the basically the exact same price.
I got all much handles back plus some. I got
NFL Network, MLB Network, all the extras, and I get
FanDuel on Fubo TV, so I'm not paying for multiple
different It amounts to the exact same cost, and I
get it all in one place. Now, fast forward six
months and maybe that gets screwed up too, but as
of now, I've found a pretty easy solution. So Joe's

(32:44):
he's spot on about that. It's annoying, but it didn't
take that long to make a switch and figure it
out pretty easily. Let's go to smoke on the headlines.

Speaker 5 (32:55):
All right, one little news, but it involves Charlotte and
one big news. First, get to the little one injury
update for the Pelicans. Zion Williamson has been diagnosed with
a Grade one left hamstring strain. He will be re
evaluated in seven to ten days, so he is out
for tonight's game against the Hornets.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
So none of the stars are playing in this game tonight.

Speaker 5 (33:17):
Yeah, unlike when Norm McDonald was trying to help hype
up an award show, none of the stars are here.

Speaker 4 (33:23):
Also, this is the big news, and this is hilarious.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
Live Golf, which started about three or four years ago,
made themselves different by playing in fifty four whole events
instead of seventy two. That's right, with shorts on, Yes,
with shorts on, with DJs with Bert Kreischer without a
shirt on. Well, they now today they're moving to seventy
two holes in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
We have wasted so much time talking about live tour over.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
The years, and the reason why, as you'll be shocked,
is to help the tour's efforts.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
To gain world rankings points. Good for them, Good for that,
I still don't care. Good for them. We'll come back.

Speaker 5 (35:11):
There's a lot of guys that go with last night,
with the start of acc basketball and specifically in Chapel Hill,
Caleb Wilson dunked the ball twenty thousand times. I mean,
he's on pacer Velt, I think five hundred dunks with
the ones he had in the first five minutes. But
I got to go and Nry Vasler had a good game.
But I gotta go with Kay and Evans fifteen point,
six rebound, six assists, four steals. Kyle, he's the first

(35:32):
point guard at North Carolina to put those numbers up
in a game since Kobe White. Lot Like Carolina, they
had a lot, they didn't have the sexiest moves into
Chanser reportal, but guys like Evans I think are going
to be beloved in Chapel Hill this year as we'll
see a much better tar Heel team.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
I'll make this quick. NC State got will Wade's first
win of his tenure as the big Whistle in Raleigh
last night, one fourteen to sixty six. I mean, just
obliterating the North Carolina Central Eagles, and they were led
by Darien Williams nineteen points, four rebounds, eight assists in
twenty four minutes last night. We all expect, most of
us expect NC State to have a pretty big year.

(36:12):
I think, right, we all kind of expect that with
Will tournament is the expects to him is the expectation.
And Darien Williams among those who will lead them there
a big night last night as they again hand Will
Wade his first win as the wolf Pack head coach.
Wolf Pack fingers, Darien Williams bawling out, which you guy.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
Yeah, be sure to phrase it because Mike does not
phrase that at all. Uh oh we Pack fingers anyway.
But I do also want to give a special shout
out to Hawaii Pacific.

Speaker 4 (36:38):
Hawaii Pacific is a D two school.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
I couldn't believe that is in the universities at a
former strip mall and they play full home games at
a former Franchisian adult day center facility. They just went
to Boise State, a team that has been in the
tournament the last couple of years, and beat them and
beat them what did he biggest upsets ever? And by
the way, Mountain West, how about that? I want people

(37:04):
to just I want you to say that again. This
this school was in a strip mall, Okay, Hawaii Pacific.
The Hawaii Pacific Sharks Okay Division two school in a
strip mall, played in a former adult care center. I
think is what I read this morning. Yes, and they
went and beat Boise last night. It's insane incredible. And

(37:27):
there was already a couple upsets because that was the
biggest one. But the second biggest one was New Orleans
who was a part of a gambling scandal. It just
got taken over by master P. First game as master P,
as GM didn't that didn't.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
The gambling scandal break like a day after they hired him,
or right as it happened. Oh okay, all right.

Speaker 5 (37:44):
And in the first game they play against TCU Jamie Dixon.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
They beat TCU. So last night Master P made Jamie
Dixon say no, no, no, no. I had to do it.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
It's okay, it's okay. I'm not mad about it. Seven
oh four five to seven oh ninety six ten. Hit
us up on the FanDuel text line. I'll do this.
I don't often throw this out there on the air.
Sometimes I'll post this on Twitter. But Jake Dilone's coming
up in nine minutes. If there's something you want to
hear from Jake, hit me up on the FanDuel text
line seven oh four five seven oh ninety six ten.
I can't promise I'll get to all of it, but
if there's something good, of course I'll try to sneak

(38:19):
it in there. Jake delone in about eight minutes, what
do you want to hear from Jake about the Panthers
coming off of Green Bay when New Orleans coming to town.
He knows all about those guys living down there, growing
up in Louisiana. What do you want to hear seven
oh four five seven oh ninety six ten. I am
very excited to hear, quite frankly, Jake's excitement because I
think it's going to be evident just in listening to

(38:40):
him on the game broadcast, knowing how he feels about
this team. He's been a bright, young believer since the
beginning as a quarterback. I know, absolutely know that he
values and appreciates what Rico Doubel and the run game
are doing, the fact that Joe Gilbert continues to put
a competitive, sometimes more than that offensive line on the
field each every week despite already having started seven combinations

(39:03):
up front. So you know, if you want to hear
something from Jay hitting me up seven oh four, five
seven oh ninety six to ten, we'll talk about it.
I'll also, of course ask him if he's at all
disappointed or was gearing up for the Panthers to do
something at the trade deadline today, even though they didn't.
That was fifty two minutes ago. No deadline deals. Panthers
holding pat doesn't mean that they can't add a piece

(39:23):
at some point off the street over the next several
weeks if they need to, or if someone becomes available.
But I got to be honest, I am not at
all disappointed that Carolina didn't pull the trigger on a
big trade today. I don't think there was anything out
there that made a ton of sense for them, and
I'm talking about big trades. You know, if they'd given
up a future you know, sixth for a backup linebacker,

(39:43):
no one would have cared that much. That could have
made some sense. But in terms of swinging big for
another edge rusher, we had somebody call I think Carolina
Mike called us yesterday lobbying for a wide receiver deal.
I even saw someone texting it at the top of
the show, asking if they should go chasing Jalen Waddle
to reunite him with Bryce Young. I don't think that's
the answer for this team this year. And I do

(40:05):
believe that where there's something to be said for building
the culture. That culture still kind of being in its infanty.
I won't call it it's infancy. That's not true, because
that was last year. What I think you're seeing is
the blossoming of a culture, and these guys are starting
to win together. And I do believe you run the
risk of screwing that up by adding the wrong things

(40:26):
into the locker room. After all, they've been through through
nine weeks. So if you think that you're getting healthier,
and I do believe this team is getting healthier, you
want these young guys to continue to get most of
these reps. Again, outside of maybe trying to add some depth,
what would you really have been looking for that wouldn't
have concerned you about either mortgaging the future or adding

(40:48):
a piece to the building that could potentially not fit.
I don't know. I'm not saying I have all the answers.
I'm just not the least bit bothered by them standing
pat at the deadline.

Speaker 5 (40:56):
Yeah, And like I said, even though we now see
trades happen often in the NFL like we did, and
specifically big trades, I still think we're at a level
where not every most people realize most years we're not
supposed to get involved in day trades, and I think
we saw that happen today with Dan Morgan's like, Hey, look,
we're good. We're in a pretty good spot right now.
We're not where we want to be eventually, but we're

(41:17):
in a pretty good spot. If I make a deal
and make a splash right now, it'll probably altered away
that this team looks moving forward and could hurt them
in the future. And that's where honestly, that shows you
that Dan learned from his predecessor's mistake when he was
underneath him for route. Most of the time here he's
zigged when fitter or zagged. Yeah, in this situation, I

(41:37):
think that's a pot That's something that you should look
at and say, hey, I think even if you're not
officially one hundred percent sold on Dan Morgan, I'm not
saying anyone should be, But what I'm saying is that's
something to look at and say, he's got his whereabouts
with film and if in fact he knows what he's doing,
and that appears to be the case in terms of
player evaluation, I want to give Dan another offseason to
stack another solid draft class. Hopefully fingers frost another solid

(42:01):
free agency. Let Brent Tillis continue to run the books
cleanly and efficiently and really set this team up for
twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
