Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to The Kyle Bailey Show, powered by
Victory Chevy Charlotte, where just nineteen dollars down could put
you in a brand new Chevrolet. Today our number two
(00:22):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn ZKB and Smoke.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
This show brought to you by Victory Chevrolet. Go see
my buddy, Brandon Gandy. He's got all sorts of good
chevyes over there on the lot Exit twelve or fourteen,
off I four eighty five. I picked out a Chevy
Silverado Trail Boss myself. But he's got all sorts of
things over there that you will love. Go check them
out Victory Chevrolet dot Com. Big thanks to Dan Morgan
for joining us. Will Pelagic Willie pe voice of Charlotte
(00:48):
FC and the host of Panthers postgame here on wfn
Z as well as Hornet's Postgame. He works from late nights.
He's coming up at four twenty five. Joe Person is
back at five o'clock. We'll get the Panthers beat reporter
on all that's gone down this week from of course,
I guess going back to the weekend kind of last Thursday,
preseason finale roster cutdowns, no hunn Renfro, Adam thieland trade
(01:12):
Ikey AQUANDU situation. We'll get to it all with Joe
Person coming up at five o'clock. And we are now
one hour and twenty five minutes and change away from
the beginning of Week one in college football. Week zero's
an appetizer. It's kind of like the first four and
Dayton accounts, but it really doesn't count. Week one is
here for everybody else in Boise State and USF. We'll
kick it off at five point thirty n C State
(01:34):
ECU fans. Talk to me, Please talk to me. How
are you feeling? Are either one of you confident enough
to talk trash to the other side. I love both
these fan bases, right, I really do. I've talked about
this over the years. I love both of these fan bases.
But y'all are not getting nasty enough, not for a
rivalry like this one. I know State fans even bristlet
calling it a rivalry because the G six Pirates certainly
(01:57):
don't belong on the same level as the ACC and
C State Wolfpack. Right, Uh, don't you look at me
like that. You know where I'm going with this?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, Well they're wrong.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
They can lie to themselves that space, and then they'll
get mad at Carolina fans from saying it's not a
rivalry too.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
So yeah, so what I'm saying, so, where are you?
Let's talk about that. We get to Lee Corso's final
game day here in just a bit too, something I
had hoped to talk about more yesterday, and then the
iky Ikuanu news came down that Adam feeling stuff was
raging on. But Lee Corso's final college game day is
coming up on Saturday. How many people will be tuned
in with tissues to see Lee Corso sent off the
(02:31):
game day set for the final time. But right now,
before we get to the best audio in sports, let
me take a phone call our guy Kenneth and Bristol
has been waiting patiently.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Kenneth, what's going on, buddy?
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (02:42):
Yes, sir, I'll tell you what I've heard all that.
You know, I'm going to be wrong, but I canalis
sounded like he would rather not have Hunter on the
roster lift yesterday. Maybe I took maybe I didn't take that.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
In consideration, or maybe I misunderstood that.
Speaker 7 (03:01):
But you know, Stuck was to my man C three
Coal and uh, you know, well we tried to think
that maybe, uh, you know, if i'm Hunter Refro, I
you're gonna have to pay me a little bit to
come back. I was under once and I know it's business.
But and as for earlier, that caller said it that
Dan should have had it done it earlier. I guess
(03:24):
if he would have.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
Took the original offer, which was a sixth and a
sixth to us, and we had to give the Vikings
Adam and a seventh. According to Joe Person's article, that
is correct. You can ask that later on it would
have been done straight off the bat, but I guarantee
you they would have been an uproar then, because Adam's
(03:45):
worth more than a sixth, then we have to give
him a seventh. That's what Scott Fitterer would have done.
Scott Frier would have took that deal.
Speaker 7 (03:53):
Sure.
Speaker 8 (03:53):
Well.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
The other thing. The other thing is that I know
you know this. They moved up in two different drafts
as a result of this trade, too, right, That matters.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Too, Yes, it does, it doesn't, and people don't realize
that until draft day, when these teams are moving up
and down.
Speaker 7 (04:08):
We've already moved up.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
So and listen, I'll tell you this and then I'll.
Speaker 7 (04:12):
Let you go, buddy. You know what, some people are
upset about this, and I'll just tell you.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
This year is paramount for Bright and Cocher and a
few others that are approaching contractor the next year or two.
They have to shout. If they shine out with strong.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
Will be spending money on them.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
If they sort of dut out, there's somebody in the
draft ready to take their place.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
I hear you, I hear you, brother.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
I appreciate the phone call. Hope Bristol's treating you well.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Real quick.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Last thing on this before we get to the best
audio in sports. My guy Panthers PSL. Sucker, who has
long been one of my favorite listeners. You know, this
is a situation where sometimes parents will tell their kids,
I don't have a favorite child, right, Well, I do
have favorite listeners, all right. PSL. Sucker has long been
one of my favorite listeners. He's been in my close
circle of trust in listeners. He called me a homer
(05:07):
earlier for not ripping the Panthers harshly enough for this
stealing trade kind of hurt my feelings.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Now, admittedly I am a little bit.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Of a homer, right, I root for the Carolina Panthers
as a radio host. I am a fan, My children
are fans. My wife wears Panthers gear proudly, even though
she's from New England and does so in enemy territory,
I might add, so to call me a homer is
not the worst thing in the world. But I feel
like Dan Morgan's interview should have alleviated some of that
thought in my man. And I told him, I'll take
(05:34):
your apology whenever you're ready, and he said, no way,
this is a bad deal. It's like your house. Objectively
it has X value, but subjectively, in your world it's
hard to replace. That's steeling. I want to get to
the playoffs this year. This moves us back, tired of
waiting on the future. So again I ask somebody else
told me earlier we just lost our number one wide receiver. Well,
(05:57):
if your number one wide receiver is a thirty five
year old who is not that fast and has you know,
couldn't stay healthy last year, and he's not.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Six four, you're already in trouble.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Okay, Like we can like him and like how he
fits in right, But objectively, if your number one wide
receiver is you're in trouble. We've seen that already, so
I don't get the chicken little sky as falling stuff
with this. They got good compensation. They're gonna make the
young boys fly. It's time for some of these young
boys to fly on their own. And I don't think
(06:30):
I emphasized this early enough in the show yesterday, Buddy,
PSL Sucker, do you not recall that Bryce began to
turn his career around last year with Adam Thielan not
on the field.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Adam was not playing last year.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
When Bryce got back out there and started to figure
it out and turn things around. He wasn't out there
to hold Bryce's hand as the turnaround began. Now, he
came back eventually, I think mid November, right. He got
hurt in what the third week of September, Yeah, in
Las Vegas, and didn't return.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Until mid November.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
So it's not as if he was out there holding
Bryce's hand through the turnaround in Denver and against New Orleans.
I don't think he was back for the Giants either.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
When his first game I believe was the Chiefs game.
That's when he got back again.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Panthers, PSL Sucker, still love you, but I don't think
it's homerism today.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
I just don't. This is sports. We debate things.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
But come on now, homersm let's go to smoke with
the best audio in sports.
Speaker 9 (07:23):
What did you say?
Speaker 3 (07:24):
You what?
Speaker 1 (07:25):
What did you say?
Speaker 6 (07:27):
Hold up?
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Wait a minute?
Speaker 9 (07:28):
Send me right?
Speaker 6 (07:31):
What I mean by that is all right?
Speaker 3 (07:33):
What you got? All right?
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Well, we start off with Dave Canalis yesterday talking to
the media, and while Ryan Fitzgerald has won the kicking
contest because Matthew Wright got cut, that doesn't mean his
job is safe. As yesterday, we got probably the most
candid and blunt response we've gotten from Dave Canalis so
far when it came to Ryan Fitzgerald.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
He's our kicker right now.
Speaker 10 (07:54):
But again, we're gonna take this thing week to week,
you know, and look see how he's doing and kind
of just continue to look at what's out there and
we'll make the right decisions for the Panthers as we
go along with this thing.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Doesn't sound like a real strong vote of confidence. Was
there something in preseason that gave you pause?
Speaker 10 (08:11):
I would say the same thing for any other kicker
that was here. This is a performance type of league,
you know. In these opportunities there are so many guys
out there that want these jobs. There's more kickers than
there are spots, you know, on the thirty two teams,
and so again it's that competition and this is a
good moment for him to take advantage of this opportunity
that he has.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Are you afraid of this kicking situation.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
A little bit?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Because I think I'm still in I'm still distracted enough
by a couple of other roster deficiencies that I haven't
hyper focused on the kicking situation. But the more this
goes on, the more we hear about it, and that
like lack of They can say, but we drafted him,
We're gonna stick by him. There might be some bumps
in the road, or we signed him. I know, sorry,
we brought him in. I don't know why I keep
saying that. It's like, is he gonna lose a game?
(08:58):
You gonna line up early in the season they play well,
there's a kick to win a game, to tie a game,
and kicking situation really bites them. Because I'm starting to
get afraid of that, aren't you.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
I am too, And I like Ryan Fitzgerald, but yeah,
I'll start to get that. Between that and Joe person
with his regular skinny post updates every single day.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
It wasn't really good for Ryan Fitzgerald.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Now, skinny post isn't the actual field goal, but it's
a good indicator of how accurate you are.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Yeah, I'm a little I'm nervous. Yeah, very nervous.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
By the way, I see your text coming in. We
are gearing up for the conversation, Adam Schefter reporting that
the Dallas Cowboys are listening to trade offers for Micah Parsons.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
I see your text.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
I do, But Adam Schefter again, saying several teams have
spoken to the Cowboys about a potential Micah Parson's trade,
and for the first time, the Cowboys appear willing to
at least listen. According to Adam Schefter, we are coming
back with this conversation, I assure you, because smoke is
puffing out his chest. He thinks it's Micah Parson's time.
We'll come back to it.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Go right ahead, all right, Well, now we move on
to college game days.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
This week will be the final weekend of Lee Corso
in Front of the Camera and ESPN earlier this week
ran a very touching tribute show for Lee Corso and
Kirk Kirbstreet gave a special message to Lee Corso before
the final broadcast.
Speaker 11 (10:18):
It's been an incredible an incredible honor and uh privilege
(10:39):
to be with you, to be your partner for all
these years. There'll never be another Lee Corso. Thank you
for everything you've done for me, for this show, for
this sport.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
You're one of one.
Speaker 11 (10:55):
Love you, budd.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
That was hard to watch. I watched that. That was
really hard to watch.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Cory and Rock Hill told me a couple of minutes
ago he's already told his girlfriend that he's going to
be in front of the TV on Saturday morning. So
I told my fiance that she better prepare to see
me ball my eyes out on Saturday. Been watching College
Game Day since I was eight years old. And Lee
is just the best. He is just the best. I
can tell you again as somebody who grew up in
(11:24):
a college football town and saw Lee Corso put the
hokey mascot head on more than a few times when
he was there. It's one of his favorite places to go.
And then, of course the night that his car, his
rental car was blown up by a strike of lightning
prior to the Georgia Tech game, and we loved and
(11:45):
still do love Lee Corso in the Virginia Tech community, right,
but all college football fans, for the most part love
and adore Lee Corso. I don't know what else compares
to this in terms of emotionality broadcasters leaving the booth
for the final time. I think Dodgers fans probably felt
that way about Vin Scully.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
I was gonna say Vin might be up there, definitely
up there.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, I mean Johnny Carson. I don't remember that as well.
I was a kid, But like, I know, we're doing
cross sports, pop culture, that sort of thing. But I'm
just trying to think who else compares to Bob Barker
leaving the Price is right, you know, very different circumstance.
But I don't know, man, I'm really sad to see
Leek Corso go, And I know I'm not alone in that. Right,
We're all gonna be just basically bawling our eyes out
(12:29):
and we're.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Like, all right, ready for kickoff, let's go. That's what
Saturday at the News gonna be. Like, It's gonna be tough.
Like what else compares? What else compares Regis Philbin retiring?
Is that comparable? No, Regis I mean, is Brent Musburger
even in the same stratosphere as well.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Brin's no, and Brent's not retired, he never really quit, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
John Madden, John Madden, I think might be the one
that compares, right.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Yeah, Hopefully for Lee it goes out just like John
because he went out with the Super Bowl between the
Steelers and Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Yeah, that was a great gamebody.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Oh, somebody said Alex Trebek's last show on Jeopardy. That's good,
especially considering Alex didn't give y because you're watching icon's
age and of course, in Trebek's case, he was battling
cancer too. But you're watching these television icons start to
age in front of us, and you get that finale,
that end. I mean, John Madden, Alex Trebek. I liked
those a lot. Vin Scully for sure, what else you got?
Speaker 3 (13:26):
All right?
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Moving on to tonight's college football slate, The biggest one
at least around here, has North Carolina State nc State
taking on ECU in Raleigh, and earlier this week, Blake
Carroll talked about how he is getting his team ready
for the game after the contentious Military Bowl about eight
or nine months ago.
Speaker 9 (13:43):
Yeah, yeah, you know, Obviously, it's an in state, in
state game where there's several guys who know each other
from might be high school, just played them in a
bowl game, so you know each other from that. You know,
every time you turn on social media, you see something
about the game.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
So it's hard to.
Speaker 9 (13:55):
Hide that from your players and make it a faces
opponent as you mentioned, but I think that you know,
our focus is always, Yeah, we're gonna prepare for our opponent.
We're gonna prepare for what they do. We're gonna expect
the heck out of them, because they've done a great
job throughout Coach Dorian's time there. But we got to
make it more about us and our preparation, how we
go about our our business, how we go about our game,
(14:15):
how we practice, how we do things. And if we'll
do those things, I think it'll keep taking some of
the emotions out of it and just focus on what
we do, and that certainly helps.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
At the same time, I mean, this is what you
gotta get.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
It's a game that's featuring a team with young rising
stars versus a team with you know, season transfers. In
NC State, they want bowl game revenge. You got offensive
urgency against execution and discipline and you know, trying to
establish the run on both sides. Tonight, Does Hollywood Smothers
get going early in the run game for NC State?
(14:50):
If so, how does that help CJ. Bailey in the
big game chunk play department? You know he's CJ. Bailey,
that is, you know, rising trajectory. And then at ec
kiton Howser, the familiarity with Blake Carroll's system coming back
giving him an edge tonight, do they start quickly offensively?
You got the guy behind him? Was it Matthew Wright?
Is it Matthew Wright?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Mike Right?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
I'm sorry, I knew of Matthew Right, My bad, Mike
right behind him? You know, if they feel like they've
got a decent quarterback room if something were to happen
at ECU. So this is I mean, as far as
season openers go, that aren't the headline big neutral site games.
This is I think, you know, one of the two
or three best outside of those big neutral site games.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
And remember, one of the leaders for NC State's defense,
Brandon Cleveland, isn't going to play in the first half
because he got ejected from the Military Bowl for being
in that fight. So you're not going to have one
of your best defensive linemen in the first half, so
that puts a lot of pressure on Travali Price and
a couple other guys too.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Buddy, that's what did you say? The best audio in
the world of sports. When we return, Willie P. Will Polachik,
voice of Charlotte FC postgame host for the Hornets and
our Panthers postgame will get to all the usual stuff,
but also Adam Schefter again reporting that the Dallas Cowboys
are listening to Micah Parsons trade offers for the first time.
(16:03):
We've talked about Trey hendrickson right, We've talked about other
players at the position and elsewhere. If the Cowboys really
are willing to deal Micah Parsons before the start of
the season, should the Panthers be in the mix. Smoke's
got a devious look on his face. We'll talk about
it all next. Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ.
Speaker 7 (16:29):
Big tossing the.
Speaker 12 (16:30):
Gates with a hat of the ragees seats.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I can't behave you try to get down?
Speaker 6 (16:33):
Oh will you failed to see the world can't be
saying the streets.
Speaker 12 (16:36):
Is four with the world that's off for the week,
so they after the week in a lamb of the lambs.
Speaker 7 (16:40):
I amn't I beat damp on.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Show My run the shools?
Speaker 2 (16:42):
All right, So we got a fire hose of breaking
news during the break here, and I'm going to turn
it over to Smoke for just a second to get
it all in. What did you just yell at me?
All I remember is that Corey Seeger also had an
appen deck to me. But that's about the ex What
else has happened in the last five minutes?
Speaker 4 (16:57):
That is the tip of the icebergs. Yes, sir, area
nade of Corey Seeger with an app in deck to me.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
He's the series MVP. Cory Seger. Yeah, is going to
miss several weeks.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
That basically kills any chance the Rangers have of making
the wild Card.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
But in the words of Billy Mays, but Wake there's more.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Because Jay Wright has just stepped down from broad full
time broadcasting duties with CBS Sports and T and T.
He's still going to be in a special assistant to
the president at Villanova. But let the coaching rumors can commence, okay,
and Rick Barnes just got a lifetime contract extension from
the University of Tennessee. Uh so, yeah, all right, Well,
(17:35):
we got some more stuff regarding NASCAR that we're gonna
have in all Oh.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Yeah, the court hearing today between the NASCAR and twenty
three eleven in front Row Motorsports. The texts that are
coming out, Michael Jordan calling people the F word and
the P word, and Denny Hamlin's out here at tweeting,
and somebody talked about the death of the France family.
I mean, it got nasty in court today. So we'll
try to squeeze some of that into But again, cap
(18:00):
Rick Barnes, with a lifetime contract to Tennessee, Jay Wright
leaving CBS after three years of broadcasting, claims this is
to focus on his role as special assistant to the
president of Villanova. And if you believe that I've got
some I got some motion front property in Nebraska to
sell you. And then Cory Seger also with an appendectomy.
(18:20):
So a couple of Charlotte native athletes that are notable
with appendicitis.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
This week, how about that?
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Yeah, so it's only a matter of time before Hornets player.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Good lord.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Oh, and also Adam Schefter reporting that the Cowboys are
listening to trade offers for star edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Schefter reporting that multiple teams have reached out and that
the Cowboys are finally listening to trade offers. There was
a report a day or two ago. I think that
the Packers had put one on the table they were
listening to. But now Schefter saying multiple teams, and it
(18:52):
makes you wonder if one of those teams could be
the Panthers. My question to you that the audience is
should they be one of those inquiring teams calling the
Jones family about trading for Micah Parsons. Bunch of techs
coming in on that. We'll get to him in a
couple of minutes, but right now we welcome back and
welcome in the voice of Charlotte FC wf and Z
host reporter. He's the host of our Panthers postgame coverage
(19:14):
on wfn Z as well as Hornet's post game. Will
Polacik is back with us on a Thursday.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Willie P. What's going on? Brother? How are you good? Afternoon? KB?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
How are you out of breath? But I'm going to
compose myself here. Let me start with the Micah Parsons
thing with you. I'd love you your thoughts on that,
because you know, I don't think the Hendrickson thing made
a ton of sense for them. But you know, Parsons
is like twenty five, twenty six, really entering his athletic
prime in the NFL and apparently wants out. If Dallas
is listening to offers, should Dan Morgan submit one, well.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
You should pick up the phone, definitely.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
I mean, I think we all kind of agree that
he is a player who could help the Carolina Panthers.
I just don't know if it would run akin to
where the Panthers have gone and done their business. I think,
you know, I'm not trying to equate trading Oudham Feel
into trading for Micah Parsons. Those are two completely different
moves in two completely different vacuums. But so much of
(20:07):
what the Panthers have said and even done so via
actions this offseason is trying to develop toward the future. Now,
if it doesn't cost a significant and I think significant
is all within the eye of the beholder. If it
doesn't cost a significant amount of draft capital, and it
doesn't significantly weaken a part of the football team without
trying to strengthen another, then I think it's something that
(20:29):
Panthers can definitely put together a package.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
They've got some draft capital.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Now, it's not like you're sitting here and saying that
they're dealing from a position of a lack of strength.
But I think again, it has come down to a
couple of factors. Number one, does Michael Parksons want to
play here? Do you feel like you can get him
an extension here that he's agreeable to. And oh, by
the way, there is this whole thing about, you know,
trying to play with your draft capital enough to where
you can enrich this defense, because it will take more
(20:55):
than just one player to enrich this defense to a
level that can be you know, a competitive can tender.
And like you said, like I said before at the
beginning of this whole discourse, it runs counter to what
the Panthers have done in terms of the rest of
their modus operendi and the way that they've gone about
this soft season. But in terms of what I like
to see Michael Parsons in the Carolina Panthers, yes, absolutely,
(21:16):
but I just I wonder what kind of package they
could put put together. And also you know whether or
not Parsons actually wants to play for a more immediate
contender than Carolina.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
I don't know if they take it, but if I'm called,
like if Dan calls, hey, we'll give you next year's first,
and DJ wantum for mikeah Parsons, you doing that deal.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
I would do that deal if I was with the
Carolina Panthers. I don't know if Dallas would though.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
I don't know if they would either. I'm just telling that,
but I'm saying, knowing you have to pay MIKEAEH Parsons
too at some point, right I mean, people are saying
multiple ones, you got to pay the guy, like I don't.
I don't know if Dallas would do the deal, but
I'm offering it first and DJ want them, I think
to start.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
I wouldn't hate that kind of a deal.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
I just I wonder what Dallas's appetite is for actually
trading him, because you know, we I've heard Jerry talk
about this earlier in the offseason. He says he wants
to do a lot of things, more so for attention
than anything else. So I wonder just where exactly their
appetite is. I think listening and you know, feeling ready
to consummate a deal probably still a wide break between
(22:15):
those two things.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I hear you all right, your thoughts on the Adam
Thielen deals, and I would throw into that. Dan Morgan
just joined me an hour ago and made it abundantly
clear that Adam Thielen really pushed for this, came into
his office recently and said he wanted to go finish
his career in Minnesota, and so then said about trying
to make it happen. So, with all that we've learned
now in the aftermath, what are your thoughts on the
(22:36):
Adam thlen trade to Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Well, it definitely puts a different tinge on the end
of Adam Thielm's career. And I know he put out
a statement, you know, thanking Carolina and thanking that Hepper's
and all that stuff and thank and the fan base.
It definitely makes you think about him a little bit
differently if you're a Carolina Panthers fan, because I know
that you know a lot of people thought of him
as a very integral part going into this upcoming season.
But I know you and I had the conversation earlier today,
(23:01):
you know, we were talking in the office about how
it did seem like there might have been a de
emphasis of him during this preseason and an appetite to
see more of the young guys. And I think too,
when it comes down to it, the whole reason why
I think there are a lot of Panther fans feeling
uneasy about this is because of Hunter Renfro not being
(23:21):
on the the three man roster. Not to say that
Hunter Renfro is going to play significant role in front
of those three young guys, but it does give the
receiving corps as a whole a little bit more legitimacy
and a little bit more experience that you don't have.
I mean, your most experienced receiver is David Moore, and
I know that you rate David Moore probably a lot
more highly than a lot of other people do.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
But little more.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
There's I think a significant gap between what you're losing
with from an experience standpoint, with that I'm feeling, and
what you have with David Moore. So I would have
liked to not have them cut Renfro in order to
make this deal, But at the same point in time,
there still time between now in the beginning of the season,
if they can get Renfro back, I feel a lot
(24:03):
more differently about this I'm not saying that losing dealing
is a significant loss. I still maybe worry about did
you get enough compensation back to at least satisfy what
you're giving up, because I feel like a fourth two
years from now doesn't equate to what you lose in
the current immediate aftermath. And I still think too, I
would have held out for something more. I also think again,
(24:26):
part of the context around this is still the fact
that that Renfro is still in the open market and
it seems like he's taking offers at this point.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
Well it could be. Yeah, that's the other thing.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Dan told us point blank when I asked him, you
know about the situation. They want him back, and I said, well,
does that mean you wanted him on the practice squad?
And he didn't really wasn't feeling that, And Dan said, no,
we'd like to have him on the fifty three. I mean,
was right, point blank, specific and honest, we'd like to
have him on the fifty three. So that tells you
what that he's gotten multiple offers, that he's mulling, that
he was offended or upset that he wasn't rostered to
(24:56):
begin with.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
What does that tell you?
Speaker 8 (25:01):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (25:01):
No, did we lose Willie. We might have lost Willie
p oh Man. We'll try to get him back. Seven
oh four five seven oh ninety six ten. Hit us
up on the FanDuel text line. I'm not quite sure
what happened there. He might have lost his internet connection
in his home studio. That could have happened right there.
Seven oh four five seven o ninety six ten. Hit
us up on the FanDuel text line. I do have
(25:23):
a lot of people texting in right now potential deals
for Micah Parsons. We will get back to that in
short order. All right, So Willy's back, We got him. Huh,
all right, we'll we'll po logic back with us. Your
last question, it's okay. Dan told us point blank an
hour ago that they they're they're basically offering it sounds
like they want Hunter on the fifty three, Like this
isn't according to him, we offered practice squad and he
(25:44):
didn't want that. They want him on the fifty three,
and it sounds like they're having to convince him.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
What does that tell you?
Speaker 4 (25:50):
It tells me maybe there's some hurt feelings there. And again,
I wouldn't feel badly if I was a Hunter front
Fro about kind of like weighing my options at this point,
because I think that while there was some inherent faith
shown in Hunter Renfro by bringing him back during the
mini camp portion of the offseason and having him go
through the full part of training camp, I think the
(26:10):
biggest part about it too is the fact that, you know,
the hamstring injury definitely, I think curbed a lot of
his ability to impress, and I think if that doesn't happen,
maybe we're not talking about Hunter Renfro barely missing out
on the fifty three man roster. So I think he's
trying to weigh with the best options for him. I
still wouldn't put it out of the frame of mind
that he is back with the Panthers and we have
(26:31):
a different feel about this, But like you said, I
think he's just weighing his options right now as he
has wont to do.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
All Right, Will Polochik with us here hanging out on
the hotline, let's talk about Charlotte FC, because the heat continues,
they remain hot. I told you earlier I was listening
to you and Anna Sunday night driving around. It was
a great broadcast, and of course it's always better when
you win. I heard you last week talk about the
big difference with this club is how much better organized
they are defensively. Clearly that continues to hold. But what
(26:59):
else did you like from this weekend?
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Well, I think again, it just comes down to the
fact that they've been able to win in a different
kind of way, and I think that's.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
The biggest part about it.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
And I had an extended discourse that I posted on
my Twitter account with Dean Smith because there are a
lot of people in the MLS punditry who are poking
holes at Charlotte of C's form as being you know,
not lucky, but not esthetically pleasing, I think is the
way that they would put it. They would say, look,
you know, they're winning games ugly. They're not creating a
(27:29):
lot of chances. There's not a lot of offense, and
you know, if a team could you know, manage to
score a goal and put Charlotte behind the eight ball,
games are maybe going to be a little bit different
for them. But I think they're not taking into account
the absence of pet BL because they were a lot
different team when pet Bil was playing. And Dean even
conceded that, hey, without Pep. We've had to play a
(27:49):
little bit more pragmatically. But at the same point in time,
you can't argue the form seven wins in a row,
eight in a row, unbeaten. It's not like these teams
that they've beaten are past. We're talking about Cincinnati, who's
at the top of the table. We're talking about teams
that are fighting for playoff position as well. Charlotte's up
to fourth in the table themselves right now, and I
think again, this might be the last game they have
(28:12):
to play without pet Bel, because he's still tracking towards
our next game after this weekend, which is New England
possibly playing against Miami two weeks from now. That would
be a significant return and also a significant statement that
they were able to have as good a form as
they have been independent of what happens this weekend against
New England without pet Bl, I think it should scare
(28:33):
teams to want to face Charlotte to see come the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
E don Toe Clamati, I told you and I both
agreed a long time ago. Great name to say, I
look for any reason to say his name. It's fantastic.
But a young guy joined him in August of twenty
twenty four, initially signing with Crown Legacy continues to get
better and better by Mike count you can correct me
if I'm wrong. Scored or assisted in the last four games,
seven goals this season. How would you characterize his growth
(28:57):
this year five in.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
A row KB with.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
The fact of the matter is with him, he's a
different kind of striker than Patrick Gojamon was. And I
think anytime you make statements about Eton, people are going
to compare that to Patrick. And I'll say about the
two of those guys as they are two different players.
Patrick is more of the brutish target striker. Edon is
(29:21):
a much more technical player than Patrick Gogemon is. He's
a very willing runner, so he's going to try and
get into spaces that maybe Patrick Gojemon didn't feel like
you could get into.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
And I think he's so.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Much better on the ball, especially, you know, I always
point you back to his first MLS goal he scored
against Nashville. He was able to take a touch, beat
the defender solo one on one, be able to get
behind the defender with that touch and finish it all
one time against the defense of Nashville in the game
where Charlottovs came from behind in the final seven minutes
(29:53):
of open play when they were down one nill they
got a penalty from Wilfrid Zaha and that goal from
Tokomoia to win it. That just shows you the kind
of player and potential that he brings. Charlotte is not
had a striker of that quality in their entire history,
so he's still incredibly raw at twenty years old. That
they got another twenty year old and Archie good Win
to pair it with him as a competition standpoint, I
(30:14):
think is great for the young man, but I also
think too he just he raises the potential of what
Charlotte can do offensively with what he can do on
the ball, what he can do off the ball.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
And also setting up for teammates.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
He basically made Charlotte's goal happened last week by being
in the right place, in the right time and having
enough threatening attacking ability to hold the ball long enough
to get at to caer whin Vargas in order to
get care win that goal. That's something Charlotte's he has
not had, and his ability on the counterattack is something
that Charlotte Cey could definitely use to their advantage.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Calm the stretch rup All right, we got New New
England coming up this weekend. They got Charlotte back in April,
I believe one nil, so there's a chance to avenge
that one. But very different teams from then to now.
Is I think we both know what are we expecting?
What you highlighting this weekend in the broadcast leading up
to things.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
Yeah, Charlotte had a bit of an EKG run.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Since then, New England is basically right where they were
at that point of the season, same spot, eleventh place.
They haven't risen or fallen from that level. It's been
a couple of different results for them here. Recently, they
did get a big victory over Columbus, and as Dean
Smith said last hour when we talked to him, you
aren't a bad tea if you can go into Columbus
(31:25):
and win a contest. So it's something that is definitely
a big part of their resume. But outside of that,
they have not had a lot of impressive performances. Even
the victory against Charlotte, Charlotte dominated that contest and they
basically waited on a touch of glory from Carlos heel
so from that perspective, it is going to be something
for Charlotte from a revenge standpoint, but also they got
(31:46):
to go down there and prove that they can win.
You know, in New England it's a tough atmosphere a
lot of times because there's not a lot of people
in the buildings, so you're going to have to create
your own energy. Charlotte has not done well in that
building either, so it's gonna be tough and difficult.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
But it's a game Charlotte.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Given you know where the favoritism and where the favoritism
should be, they should win this game. But as we know,
there's so much perry in this league. Teams beat each
other from bottom to top all the time, so I'm
curious to see how they show out on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
All right, Willie, last thing college football starts tonight. I
don't know what your level of fear is for the
Central Arkansas Bears, the pride of the United Athletic Conference,
But the Missouri Tigers get under way tonight. What is
your outlook for the twenty twenty five Maszoo Tigers and
Eli Drinkwitz.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
I think they'll be competitive.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
I think that their schedule sets up rather favorably of
getting South Carolina early.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
I think is a very intriguing contest.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
That game might kind of be the Bellweather game in
terms of, hey, can they beat some of their other
big opponents in the schedule. They get Alabama as well,
they miss a lot of the other bigger opponents that
they could have had on their schedule. But it could
be a team that, you know, if they win a
couple of those early conference games, they get a long
stretch of home games right in a row, and if
(32:59):
they win those, you know, you could be talking about
them here come October Novemba. But I like a lot
of it depends on how their replaced quarterback Brady Cook.
They're gonna play both quarterbacks tonight, Probola and Sam Horn,
the baseball slash football stud So we'll see whether or
not they can at least find an answer. They got
a big non conference game week two, the re engaging
of the boy to war with Kansas, so that one
(33:21):
obviously has circled on many Missouri fans.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Yeah, I was looking at that earlier. Today should be
a fun one. Thank you as always, brother, have a
great night. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Thank you. KB. There you go, Will Placik with us.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Hanging out Thursday conversation, don't forget coming up in eighteen minutes.
Joe person of the Athletic, is back. He's got an
in depth piece out today about the behind the scenes
of the Adam Thielen trade. I've got a few people
texting in to ask if they missed Dan Morgan on
the show you did that happened back at three twenty
five today, but it will be up on the podcast
directly after we go off the year today at six o'clock,
(33:52):
So just keep an eye out this evening. Smoke always
has the podcast up fairly quickly after the show, But
if you miss Dan Morgan, it'll be up, I can
tell you. He more or less told us that Adam
Thielen came to him and pushed to be traded home
to Minnesota to end his career with the Vikings. Also
said they would welcome Hunter Renfro back to the fifty
three man roster, which begs a lot of questions. Right
(34:13):
we talked about that. He also said they expect to
make the playoffs every year. I got him to say it, Smoke,
I didn't want to make the big deal out of that.
But I did get Dan to say they expect to
make the playoffs every year, so I'm happy he said
that on the show. Right, I could take a win
on that one, Yes, okay, all right, I just wonderful.
I didn't know if I could take a victory lap.
All right, we're gonna we'll do this. We'll come back
in just a minute. The Micah Parsons news has people
(34:35):
blowing up the fan duel text line Cowboy Sean of
course wants to talk Micah Parsons on the other side,
but first we go to smoke on the headlines.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Who is smoke? Where is smoke? Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Let's go what you got? All right?
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Well, there was a lot of drama in uptown Charlotte
for NASCAR and twenty three eleven Racing, as well as
Front Roatersports and their injunction. So essentially hearing is over
and no decision will be made until next week on
whether both twenty three eleven in Front Row Motor Sports
can be chartered for the rest of the year and
whether NASCAR can sell their charters before the December trial,
(35:11):
which would be devastating to both teams. But you know
some of the filings got released from this investigation. In
this injunction, Apparently Michael Jordan called JGR f Wards and
the twenty three efforts in the twenty three eleven Yeah,
and the text team first for signing charters and other
(35:32):
teams the P word. Denny Hamlin said in the text
that his despise of the France family runs deep. There
was also a text chain of NASCAR executives and the
Frances after a meeting over a draft of for the
charter agreement last year, where Steve O'Donnell wanted to higher
up said characterize it as f the teams that would
bring the sport back to the southern roots, tiny sport
(35:54):
of nineteen ninety six. Kyle, want to let you know,
one day rays at the Brickyard a couple of weeks ago,
seventy five thousand people were at that race. When they
raced in nineteen ninety six, that tiny sport had three
hundred thousand people there.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yeah, you know, tiny sport back when NASCAR meant nothing
to anybody back in nineteen ninety six. I don't even
know what that means. Hey, I'm Steve o'donald. We like
what we're seeing. We like what we're seeing. I'm an eighty.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
All right, hit a break, we'll come back.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
What would you offer the Cowboys for Micah Parsons Cowboys?
Sean wants to weigh in. He better not ask me
what happens if Bryce doesn't play well again this year?
I know that much that Joe person In fifteen minutes

Smoke would you bring for the people? Well, it's been
a thenful twenty four hours for the Texas Rangers. Now
Corey seekers out for at least a couple of weeks.
But last night it was a big night because they
scored twenty runs as they defeated the Angels twenty to three.
And no, this was a This was not a football score.
This was an MLB baseball score.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Good news for one, bad news for the other. Doris
Burke has been demoted from ESPN ABC's NBA Finals broadcast
team with a promoted Tim Legler. Now, I do like
Doris Burke, but I love Tim Legler and he will
saddle up next to lead play by play announcer Mike
Breen and Richard Jefferson for the next networks Finals broadcast.
(38:01):
Richard Jefferson recently agreeing to a new contract with ESPN
after working his first NBA Finals back in June. Doris
Burke was on the Finals team for two years, became
the first woman in history to serve as an analyst
for one of the traditional four major North American Sports
League championship broadcasts. But ESPN confirming early reporting by The
Athletic that Burke would be replaced by Tim Legler during
(38:24):
the Finals, and also announced that Burke has signed a
multi year extension, so she'll be with the network, but
now the number two NBA broadcaster alongside Dave Pash. So
Tim Legler, who I've loved for a long time on
the Four Letter Network and is a guy who has
managed to stay there for a long time because of
his talent. Tim Legler, I do love the fact that
(38:45):
he's getting a shot on the NBA Finals broadcast legs
bawling out.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Yeah, definitely it's awesome for him, arguably, especially now that
JJ's gone. The best NBA analyst that you can find
out there and definitely the best at ESPN has so
definitely well worth it.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
All Right, we got to go quick on this Joe
person in five minutes. I promised him that we would
be punctual today, So I got to go quick with cowboys.
Sean on the phone line, Sean, I got to go
quick here, man, but I want to. I didn't want
to keep you waiting. What's on your mind?
Speaker 7 (39:09):
Okay?
Speaker 12 (39:10):
Cool? Cool?
Speaker 8 (39:10):
Cool?
Speaker 12 (39:11):
What's up to us? I got doing good. If you
want Parsons, get them.
Speaker 7 (39:15):
He's not be an appreciate.
Speaker 12 (39:17):
It by Jerry Jones. The dain't about that. I don't
get about stealing all renfo. I mean Bryce needs to
improve whatever. But when it comes to next year, the
number three or number four peck pick the North Sellers
South Carolina to the Carolina Panthers. Think about that?
Speaker 7 (39:38):
Be good?
Speaker 12 (39:39):
Peace?
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Oh okay, well, I don't think that First of all,
if you're trading for Michaeh Parsons, you're you're almost certainly
giving up next year's first So if you're looking for
a quarter if that's the thing that's been brought up
on the text line so far about the Micah Parsons deal,
there have been a few people who have said, no,
we can't do that because we don't yet know for
sure that Bryce is the guy, and if he flops,
we need that first round pick for a quarterback next year.
(40:00):
That has been a you know, I don't think it's
the majority, and it hasn't come in a ton, but
I'd say four or five people have sent that in
so far.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
No, that is a fair criticism, especially considered we don't
know when this deal is going to get done. It
could get done within the next week or two, or
it could be drawn out until March.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
All right, well, pause our speculation. We hit a quick break.
We will come right back to this with Joe person
of the Athletic on the other side. He covers the
team inside now good friend to the show. We'll talk
to him about everything, Micah Parsons, Adam thielend Hunter, Renfro,
all of it, that's Next. Sports Radio ninety two to
