Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to The Kyle Bailey Show powered by
Victory Chevy Charlotte, where just nineteen dollars down could put
you in a brand new Chevrolet today.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
It's comfortable in those moments.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
He believes he belongs in those moments. I believe he
does too, And as we collectively as a team put
ourselves into high stakes situations, In high stakes moments like that,
that's where we count all the guys to execute, and
certainly Bryce is at the forefront of that.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Dave Kanalis on Bryce Young and his ninth game winning
drive yesterday in Green Bay. Certainly wasn't a flashy performance
from Bryce Young, just one O two on the ground
and an early end zone interception that it seems the
fan base has split on. Some people think the wind
grabbed it, others think it was just a terrible throw.
I lean a bit more toward the the former, although
(01:01):
I'm sure there are some folks shocked by that because
they do accuse me of being a Bryce homer, But
that one just didn't make a lot of sense to
me for a quarterback who's buying large a pretty accurate guy.
That was a very, very tough environment. That was the
tougher end zone and end of the stadium to play
in yesterday, thirty mile an hour win, gusts inside the stadium,
Adam Amein and Greg Olsen were talking a lot about
(01:21):
the swirling wind inside the building. He didn't really want
to kick on that end of the field yesterday either,
But you know Bryce, yesterday again, they get the ball
with a chance to drive down after a game tying touchdown,
and they got a chance to win the game, and
Bryce and Rico dowdle of course, and Rico with the
biggest play of all, but Bryce leading them down the
field and setting them up for another game winning field
goal again, the ninth of his career and a guy
(01:44):
who has now what smoke a career? Is it ten
and twenty five or eleven and twenty five record? What's
the eleven eleven and twenty five record?
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Nine of his eleven wins have been on game winning dry.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Yeah, nine of the eleven wins in his career have
have had game winning drives. It's an absolutely insane stat
when you look at the way, and again it was
a very well, I was gonna say, abnormal beginning to
his career, given all that he's been through but I
don't think that's accurate anymore, given how many you know,
rookie quarterbacks are seeing their coaches fired in the first
year and going on some bumpy rides to start their
NFL journeys. But you know Bryce again, yesterday, was it perfect?
Speaker 6 (02:18):
No?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Did he have a couple of throws that you know,
were kind of ugly? Yeah, he did. I also went
into the yes yesterday's game assuming that he was one
hundred percent simply because he was left off the injury
report with no designation. There were some times that I
was reminded that he was too injured to play last week,
and I wondered, you know, how how healthy he really was?
Was he at eighty five percent? Eighty percent yesterday at times?
(02:38):
But again, he got the job done when they needed.
Speaker 7 (02:40):
Him to the most. And that really is all that
matters at the end of the day. And I'm not
saying this is a massive factor. But how many times
has he played on the grass field this year? Oh, Arizona?
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Is that that's it?
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Right Zona?
Speaker 7 (02:52):
In Jacksonville? Yeah, And that was all the way back
in September. He's only played on turf fields. And then
you're going up north to play in Wisconsin. The wind
played a fact. There's a couple of things I think
played it. I think it's a little bit of everything
on that interception. One, I think the win because it
was on that side of the field. Two XL got
pushed off his spot. XL got pushed off his spot.
That's two.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Three. He didn't have that much. He didn't step up.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
He kind of flat footed that fro too, because even
though he had enough room to throw it, he couldn't
really step up into the fro because they were bringing
a blitz. Luckily, Rico picked it up to where he
could get the throw off, but not enough to really
step into it. So I think it was a combination
of those things right there. It's rarely is it all
just owned one thing. I think it was a multitude
of factors that played into the interception. And look, this
(03:36):
was not a pretty game for Bryce Young, but he
showed up when it mattered to most.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
It kind of it's not the same game.
Speaker 7 (03:42):
But I think people forget because I'll say, well, I
heard Mack and Bone say, well, Jake had those games
and you know he still got the job done, which
he did. Was like, well, Jake's Jake, didn't you. Cam
didn't do that. Cam actually did the league.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
First of all, the league adjusted to Cam Newton his second.
Speaker 7 (03:56):
Year in the NFL, and he had a bunch of
performance like that in a second year. Yes, I'll also
point out too the twenty thirteen against the twenty thirteen
game against the Saints, go look at camps statline before
that final drive, almost exactly similar to what Bryce The
stat line was.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, the you and I have talked about this.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
His second year in the league, the league adjusted to him,
and we all got our hopes up that Bryce was
just going to take off like a rocket after the
way he finished last year. But you know, clearly there's
some ways in which you can limit him, make him uncomfortable.
The league is caught onto that a little bit. It's
up to him and the Panthers to adjust again and
we'll see if they can continue to do that. But
yesterday there was also a clear game plan to run
(04:33):
the football and to limit possessions, and Matt Lafleur yesterday
after the fact acknowledged that both teams were playing a
bin but don't break type of defense where you're giving
things up underneath and hoping to make stops in the
red zone. And that's you know, that's something we're seeing
all across the NFL. So I mean again, you play
the game to win. As Herm Edwards once famously said,
you play the game to win. You play to win
(04:56):
the game. You know what I mean by that? Hello,
and that's what they managed to accomplish. Yes, let me
sneak at a phone call real quick. Calvin is up next, Kelvin.
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (05:04):
Thank you, Thank you Kyle for taking my call. I
want to speak on the Rico situation real real quick.
Sure you remember when we had Foreman. Foreman, to me,
was a better running back than Cuba. But I don't
know whatever reason we let Foreman go. But if you
I remember that game when we played Detroit and that
was I think we set the panther rushing yards in
that particular game. But Foreman was the guy. And but
(05:27):
I don't know why we didn't keep him. But and
in this situation, I think Rico is the guy. And
you know it's just when you look at the numbers,
Rico's doing it. I was at the game when we
played the Bills just now. When we came on the field,
I said we're gonna lose a game because Rico wasn't starting.
It's almost like I'm not. It's just it's like we
(05:48):
see things differently sometimes as people and just just a
fan of fan who loves the team. Keep pounding. Those
are the things I noticed. And one last thing. I
don't know how, but we have to start throwing the
balls deep sometimes. I think Horn will be effective on
a deep ball sometimes just to keep the defense honest.
But to me, Rico is a guy. We need to
(06:10):
lean on him. The formerly yesterday will work in any
situation if we just use it.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Yeah, Calvin, great phone call. I appreciate you, buddy. My
best advice on the whole Rico thing is let it
play out. Let it play out. We don't know what
he's going to be doing in six weeks. We don't
know if he's going to still be on a tear.
We don't know if he's going to cool off. We
don't know if defenses will adjust, We don't know if
Rico gets hurt. Knock on all the available would We
have no idea so as far as what they do
(06:37):
with Rico, there are a lot of options here on
the table. Dan Morgan has optionality at the running back position.
I'm not worried about it right now. As long as
Rico's getting the bulk of the carries, that's all I
care about right now. Let it play out. Let it
play out. Steeler, Nate's in real quick, Steeler Nate. What's
going on, buddy?
Speaker 6 (06:54):
How are you?
Speaker 9 (06:55):
Man? It is well?
Speaker 10 (06:57):
I started out this phone called as a trispector, but
I'm I'm a Dodgers fan.
Speaker 9 (07:00):
So one up to four and because you know I'm.
Speaker 10 (07:03):
A Wahoo fan, it's like I got two wins and
once that's Georgia Tech lost. So it's been a great
Monday for me, man, And like I tell anybody, enjoy
the day, man, enjoy the win. It's moment by moment.
As far as the Panthers, we go down to the
whole thing. Man, let him ride week by week, do
great week by week, and enjoy every week. That's the
(07:23):
best you can do.
Speaker 9 (07:25):
We beat the best.
Speaker 10 (07:26):
Record in the league with the Coats who saw it coming.
And lets you're a.
Speaker 9 (07:29):
Fan, believe hard man, believe big.
Speaker 11 (07:33):
That's what you.
Speaker 10 (07:33):
Got and I'll take it off the air.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I appreciate you, buddy.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Did anybody outside the state of North CA or South
Carolina have a bad sports weekend. I mean Clemson fans
in South Carolina fans had bad weekends, you said to
the United States, right, But damn near everybody else that
teams had a good sports weekend. I mean, I'm like,
especially now even in Alabama they finally got rid of
Hugh Freese. Yeah, like in our region, who had a
bad sports weekend? Not many people, mean even somebody. Y'all
(07:57):
got your coaches fired, that's what you wanted. That's still
constitutes a good weekend, coordinators or that too. Yeah, Mike
Shules gone down in South Carofula. All right, we're gonna
have to push off the best audio and sports till
a little bit later in the show. Let's take another
phone call. I bet your weather man, Mark's fired up
here on a victory Monday. What's going on, Mark?
Speaker 9 (08:12):
Oh man, I'm fired up. I had a great weekend.
Speaker 11 (08:16):
Man.
Speaker 9 (08:16):
My Dodgers won that last in and that made me
miss and my britches. Man, I'll tell you that right now.
I come like on the edge of my seat. Man,
that other guys like I was like drama at its best, man,
wasn't it.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (08:34):
My boys got it done though. But I'll tell you
something right now, I'll give Canalist credit for credits to do.
He adjusted to that terrible weather. And I've been a
weatherman myself forir local and loving weather man. That win
ain't nothing to play. Run that's crossed up ball around
(08:54):
man in a heartbeat. And I noticed that Canal is
kind of adjust to do what more than the floor did.
And that's why Bryce didn't have so many throws. A
lot of people I'm tired of hit the bryceaders saying
he didn't do this. He didn't. He wasn't a man.
Speaker 8 (09:12):
He didn't He.
Speaker 9 (09:13):
Wasn't showing what he had whatever like that. And well
he couldn't.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
Man.
Speaker 9 (09:17):
His Canalis was adjusting to the weather. He ran Rico,
and I give him that credit for running Rico. Finally,
but you can Clearlys Slee own that replay a b
that wind got that ball and that's why that ball
was intercepted. But I'll tell you man that that that
(09:38):
game had me on the edge of my seat too.
Yesterday the Green Bay, that was a major upset. That
is one of the wins that we're gonna take with us.
I'm just glad that we get a win like that,
oh yeah, oh.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Yeah, and listen, and it's because you won the game.
And I appreciate you. Mark glad you're doing well and
that you didn't mess your bridges. That would have been
a mess. You know, sometimes you just got you want
to win a game the way you have to. And
for people calling for more deep passes, yesterday, terrible windy conditions. Okay,
your wide receivers once again, by the way, not getting
much separation. I don't know if you've seen the separation
stats from yesterday. They ain't good. These wide receivers did
(10:18):
not get a ton of separation.
Speaker 7 (10:19):
I will say, I think we're getting closer and closer
to a breakout Coker game.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
I hope so, I hope so. But you have to
figure two. For those asking for more of a deep
passing game, you have to be able to trust your protection.
Think about how many again seventh different starting offensive line
combination Jake Kerhan is playing yesterday.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
All right.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
If you don't fully trust your pass protection and you
already feel like you need to limit possessions ugly up
the game, you're not going to start chucking deep balls
and trying to get into a shootout with Jordan love
and the Packers offense. They won the game yesterday the
way they wanted to win the football game. Rod is
up next on the phones. Rod, what's going on, Kyle?
Speaker 11 (10:57):
What's happening?
Speaker 12 (10:58):
Man?
Speaker 6 (10:58):
Hey, defense, what's happening?
Speaker 11 (11:01):
Edge erw you trying.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
To enjoy your last fans?
Speaker 11 (11:03):
Man? I hear you, I hear you. We looked all
right out there on defense. We talked, but I'm gonna
tell you we talk a lot about Canally Edge Row.
Who in the hill is the offensive line coach?
Speaker 5 (11:16):
That's who we need to get Gilbert.
Speaker 11 (11:20):
Gilbert, sir, you earned your money. You earned you. I
hope he stays with us. We had old lineman dropping
like flies in the first quarter and what happened.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
We just keep.
Speaker 11 (11:30):
Plugging him in, hugging away. Even last year. We had
one of the best old lines in the league last year,
so we looked pretty good up front. To have all
the injuries we have. Bryce surprised. He surprised me with the.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
Hit, the way he stands in there with pressure.
Speaker 11 (11:47):
Uh, Tom and Tom again, that's a crazy stat. By
the way, the game winning drives bent the wins, game
winning drive wins? Did he have? That's crazy, right? I
never would have thought that Tuba, you know, just le
Tuba play out.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Man.
Speaker 11 (12:01):
I love Rico right now. I might love Tuba next month.
We'll see how that goes. But you know what, Kyle,
I did want to mention this, not in relation to
the Panthers, but this keeps coming. I keep forgetting to
mixing it when I call Is it just me? Or
does it seem like we're seeing more and more of
these gruesome injuries across the league, more sol team like
(12:24):
than we ever saw before. I mean, I know players
are bigger, stronger, faster, but man, it seems like every
week now there's an ankle twisted backwards or armed out
of place, and it's like wow, Like it makes me
feel like we're on a bullet train to flag football.
That's what I feel like, man, And I hate to
(12:45):
see that. But I'm happy for our Panthers. We're looking great. Man,
I take it out the air.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
I mean, it's hard for me to say we're headed
to flag football when the Panthers are winning ugly and
physical and Philadelphia Eagles just won a Super Bowl playing
the way that they did. I mean, in terms of
more gruesome injuries than ever. I don't know about that.
Sometimes you can get caught up prisoner at the moment.
I'd have to look at the numbers. But there have
been some pretty awful injuries throughout the history of football,
lots of them, and I remember saying a bunch of them, Carolina,
Mike is up next, Carol, lot of Mike.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
What's going on?
Speaker 6 (13:14):
What's up, guys?
Speaker 8 (13:16):
A great win?
Speaker 6 (13:18):
I think I called in talked to Will yesterday.
Speaker 13 (13:21):
I think that saying, you know, you can tell there's
a difference in culture here, which you know, it's the
foundation and how we're building up. But at the end
of the day, kind of like with through or like
Smithy was saying, you know, we need we still have
deficiency and one of them is when they're bracketing McMillan,
we have to have another wide receiver step up, somebody
who can catch the ball get separation. And had me
(13:44):
thinking I was looking with the trade block. So two scenarios,
dream scenario. I'm hearing that you could probably get DJ
back for like a second, or we could throw him
Davier Laguett. That would I mean, he was his contract
would run right to when it was time to pay
ment and I think those skill sets compliment each other perfectly.
That's my dream scenario. Secondly, maybe something realistic that wouldn't
(14:07):
cost anything, is.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
You know they've got a Donnie Mitchell on.
Speaker 13 (14:11):
The trade block two years in or even Calvin Ridley,
both of those. I mean Mitchell, we don't really know
what he can be, but they're putting him as a
healthy scratch right now, and you know what his capability
and talent are. And then Calvin or CJ sorry Calvin Ridley,
I mean that guy.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
He can catch the ball.
Speaker 13 (14:31):
I mean, he can get separation and he's always trying
to be.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
This number one.
Speaker 13 (14:34):
If he can move over to the two spot, it
might open up a lot more opportunities. But we got
to have something more to make this offensive go. If Rico,
you know, Heaven Forbid gets hurt or has an off
day that we can still put some points on the board.
I just want to hear your thoughts play well.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
I appreciate you, brother, thank you for the phone call.
I don't think they're shot. I don't know if they're
shopping for a wide receiver at the deadline specifically. I
could be wrong. I mean, I I've thought things before
and been dead wrong.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Maybe Dan Morgan's actively having a conversation right now. I
think they prefer to see Jalen Coker, you know, get
up to one hundred percent speed this week. I think
Smoke just said a minute ago he thinks a big
Jaalen Coker game is on the way.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I hope so as well.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
There's a lot of focus defensively on Team AC There's
no doubt about it. And again yesterday, the separation numbers
were not great, like those wide receivers were. I mean
I think they were almost a half a yard short
of the league average in wide receiver separation yesterday. So
you got to factor that end too. When you're looking
at Bryce and his production, his performance, you know, Bryce
is very, very careful or he's very you know, Bryce
(15:31):
does not want to turn the football over. He comes
from the Nick Saban school of quarterbacking, where you know,
you get fifty lashes and you run fifty side stadium
stairs when you turn the football over. And so I
think that factored in yesterday too. I think your point
overall is a good one, though somebody else has to
step up.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
I'm with you, all right.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
We got Carolina, Jay, Charlotte Bourne, GJ Jonathan All on
the phone lines, Hang tight, you know I'm going to
take your phone calls the rest of the way, wide
open the rest of the way after we chat with
Eric McLain of the ACC Network next, so stick around
on the phone line. We talk a little college football
with eMac and then we get back to taking your calls.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wf and Z.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Well, my guy Mountain Mack on the FanDuel text line,
ask me KB has Rico Dowdell single handedly turned this
franchise around, And I understand why you might be tempted
to claim that. I don't think that's entirely accurate. He
certainly gets a large percentage of the credit for it.
But I think this is about Dan Morgan and Dave Canalis.
(16:45):
We haven't mentioned Dan Morgan, I think enough today and
I'm sure some people will tell us the you know,
perpetual skeptics, the negative nancies, the folks who claim that
they're just being realistic, right when in fact we all
know people who lead with hey I'm just being realistic,
they're actually all times pessimistic. Dan Morgan's done a really
good job bringing in young, talented players who were having
an impact on winning already in their rookie years, their
(17:08):
second years, and he's done a great job with that,
Dave Canalis creating a culture, setting the tone. As I
said earlier on the show, the players in that locker
room are clearly buying what he's selling right now. They
got a massive win. I mean, if the Cowboys was
the signature win for Dave Canalis, it was replaced yesterday
by beating the Packers in Lambeau, something that Panthers hadn't
done since two thousand and eight. So we're going to
(17:31):
get back to taking your phone calls. I got a
full bank of callers to get to Carolina, Jay, Charlotte Burne,
GJ Jonathan Michael. Hang tight, we are coming your way.
But we have to talk about another crazy weekend in
college football, certainly a disappointing weekend for Clemson fans as
they fell to Duke in a shootout. Dabo Sweeney does
not sound at all like Dabosweeney. Controversial pass interference call
(17:53):
is part of that game. Maybe controversial is putting it lightly.
And I've seen the comments of our next guest, and
it does not bode well, I think for the current
and even the immediate future of Clemson football, and that
would be Eric McLain, ACC Network College football analyst former
Clemson Tiger offensive lineman eMac is back with us for
a Monday conversation. Eric, how are you, buddy? I appreciate
the time.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
I'm good.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
I'm good. I was gonna make some you know, some
spiel there about how you know, depressed I am, and
you know, ready for twenty six, But all all is well, man,
football is great.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Well, you're also coming off of Squattober and I have
seen you on the Star Trecks, so I know you're
feeling strong physically, You're feeling good. Emotionally maybe not so much.
And in all seriousness, yeah yea.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
Physically strong, emotionally, mentally, all the above just drained. Yeah, yeah,
it's all good, man. You know, it's a tough game,
right Like when you see, you know, Clemson scores the
most points they did this season, offense finally looks great
and defense can't stop a bloody nose, and you're just like,
you have got to be kidding me. It is something
(18:55):
different each and every week for this team that there
were so many emotions. And I will let me preface
it by saying this, everything that you saw is normal,
like in a football game from a fans perspective, Like,
that's what happens all the time. Now, is there a
little bit more juice because of the frequency that it
was happening. Yeah, but guys are busting and having m
(19:17):
a's and not doing their jobs. So that's what happens.
Like some of these folks you know on social media
and other places are trying to blow it like way
out of proportion of Oh my god, Dabo's never done this.
I have had my butt shewed by that dude a
hundred times. That's is what it is, right, and you know,
but at the end of the day, it is nowhere
near the standard. It's quite disappointing. And it's just like
(19:40):
I said, it's a different problem for a different week
for the Clemson Tigers.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
People keep telling me that Clemson South Carolina is going
to decide whether or not somebody keeps a job. And
I don't know if I believe that, Like I'm not
sure if I believe that on either side South Carolina
or Clemson. But I have had even some Clemson fans
tell me, you know, I don't know, Man, Dabo didn't
look like him Selfie sounded bad. If they lose to
South Carolina, Man, this might be the end. Like what's
your take on that?
Speaker 6 (20:05):
Well, I would ask him, what does that mean? Like
Clemson's not firing them? I mean, it's a sixty million
dollars bias. I don't know if you've seen Clemson's financials,
where's that coming from?
Speaker 12 (20:13):
Right?
Speaker 6 (20:14):
Like for a program that you know is trying to
find every piece of revenue they can. I don't think
they're just chalking up sixty mili to get rid of
the best coach in their history by far. And even
with that, I don't think that's cost anybody's mind, Even
if it wasn't sixty million, I don't think that's you know,
a piece that your administration, board president, anybody is thinking
(20:35):
logically there there's just some things that need to happen
and to kind of go back to it, you know,
is it for beam or maybe and is that already
written that that's done. I don't know, because it's very interesting.
It's not funny, but it is comical in a sense.
It's kind of I guess dark humor that you know
you had such high expectations for both these programs, and
(20:56):
both of these coaches look so miserable, are just exhausted, defeated,
don't know why, don't know how, and that that is
college football. And the fact that it happened to the
two you know, major colleges in our state of South Carolina.
It's just it's crazy and it is comical.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
It is It is Eric McClain, ACC Network college football
analyst here with us on a Monday. You know this
about me, but I'll just declare it again out loud.
I hate Miami like I am a I sports hate
the Miami Hurricanes and I always have and I actually
hate them even more today than I did a couple
of days ago, because I begrudgingly admitted a couple of
weeks ago that I thought they were one of the
(21:34):
best teams in the country, that Mario Cristobal had built
this incredible team that was so physical upfront, and you know,
they could go head to head with X Y ands
and I look like a moron today, And so I
stumped for a team that I hate and hate admitting
nice things about, and they've made me look stupid all
over again. What is what's happened to Miami?
Speaker 6 (21:53):
Yeah, man, I know that feeling. It's the absolutely worst,
and the fact that you even had to double down
makes it so much so I'm sure that makes sure
hate so much strong. It's just stress to use for
you know, feeling something right now. I'm probably happy for you,
but now it's shocking, man. It really is about, you know,
just the downward spiral that you know we've seen from them.
I mean, a team that everything you said was true
(22:15):
in the moment that they were physically just killing people,
bullying guys on both lines of scrimmage, getting to the quarterback,
protecting their quarterback, taking care of the football, running the
football at will, and then they just stopped. And I
don't know, if you want to, you know, chalk that
up to increase competition, because I think they played a
couple of really nice teams to start the year with
Notre Dame in Florida and US up. But as of recently,
(22:39):
it's just it looks like a different team. And I
think the frustrating part of that for me, just from
a conference representative from somebody that you know, literally has
acc Network in their title, you know, when they're introduced
and things of that nature. It pisces me off because
like teams can never capitalize in this conference. You have
(23:00):
all the Jews, you have all the momentum people talking
about you is a top four seed, and then you
just piss it away, you know, and you can't hold on.
You can't do it, you can't make it happen. And
that's Miami, that's FSU, that's SMU. I mean the list
of Georgia Tech. You know, they're not They're not a
part of this. It's just year after year and we,
(23:20):
unfortunately in this lead, do not have the benefit of
the doubt that the big ten half for some reason,
I don't know why, the SEC obviously deservedly so that
oh it's.
Speaker 8 (23:30):
A deep conference.
Speaker 6 (23:31):
Oh no, it's a competitive conference. When things like this happen,
when the acc it happens, Oh, they just suck. And
it's so frustrating for me to have to deal with
that because we sit and we scream and we I
don't scream, but we say these points and we talk
about all this and that, and then they go and
lose to a losing records NC State team. They go
(23:51):
and lose to a SMU team that just got embarrassed
by Wake Forest and you're just like, what the hell
are we doing? It makes no sense?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
No, And stay on NC State in Georgia TECHAU. If
you would told me that State was going to upset
Georgia Tech, I would have been surprised, but I would
not have been shocked by it. But I mean for
them to score forty eight points against an eight to
zero what I thought was very physical Georgia Tech team.
I mean you tip your cap to CJ. Bailey, to
Jayden Scott of course, who was just you know, a
Biscuits shive two hundred yards rushing. But like, how does
(24:18):
that happen that spot for Georgia Tech.
Speaker 6 (24:20):
Well, let me tell you when you would be surprised.
When I tell you NC States down their top three
best players, right, one of the best running backs in
the ACC, the best pass catcher on the team, and
justin Joe Lee alignment and a couple of defensive players.
Then you'd be like, they're gonna lose by forty and
that's exactly what we thought, and somehow they win by
almost twenty. And it's just it's college football, I guess,
(24:41):
is what you chalk it up to. Because it truly
does not make any sense. I know that place is
hard to play, play there many times, been there many more,
and they were as rowdy as all get out. Like
it was fun from a college football perspective, from a
NC State perspective to hear that crowd and how ruckus
they were in the see the storming of the field.
Speaker 8 (25:02):
But C.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
Bailey played like I thought he could all year. And
I think that's another reason why I get so frustrated,
because just what you said about Miami, how how just
teams can make you look so dumb. I went and
solved NC State in person and was at their camp
and laid eyes on the bodies and the guys that
they had and the things that they were running. I'm like, Damn,
(25:24):
this might be a really good team. I mean, they've
got some guys, and then they go out and lay
egg after egg and then have the audacity to beat
a top ten.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
Team in the country.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
I mean, it just it makes no sense at all.
But I think it did further prove my thinking of CJ.
Bailey as one of the best in the country, and
I think he can be a bona fide superstar coming
in the next year.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
All Right, be honest with me about North Carolina Syracuse. Okay,
I think North Carolina fans should absolutely and rightly celebrate
picking up their first ACC win. I have no problem
with that whatsoever. You can only beat who's on your schedule.
I also have eyeballs, and I know exactly how bad
Syracuse is right now, So like, I don't know, like,
what's the amount, what's the proper amount of praise for
(26:03):
North Carolina beating a walk on quarterback, former lacrosse player
who probably should still be playing lacrosse if we're all
being honest about it.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Yeah, yeah, I mean Syracuse just went out and like
fired three of their coaches today, So I think that
tells you kind of what it is like with their quarterback,
coach or receiver. I mean it's like you look at
their staff pictures from two days ago. In today, it's
a completely different deal. So I think that kind of
tells you where they are. And you know, get kudos
to Carolina getting a dove. It's great, it's huge. It's
(26:31):
is what it is. Whatever you can reach, whatever you
can manipulate a stat to be congratulations, you know, and
I think we have seen them getting better though I
have been you know, pretty hard on them and things
of that nature, just because of the uh, you know,
the phrasing of things coming out of that camp, you know,
especially in the preseason. But we've seen some progress and
we've seen some guys step up. So certainly a foundation
(26:53):
that you know, some things are happening right now that
you can feel good about building into, you know, the offseason,
winter training and then when you get into the spring.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
I just got a text from a UVA fan. I
nearly choked, are vomited a little bit. They just did
screaming wah, who want me? On the text line right now?
They are number there's the number one team in the conference.
I mean they're they're five and oh in the ACC.
They're eight and one. I still think that's a typo
when I see it, but they really are.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
They're eight and one.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
They're five and oh in ACC play and they handled
Cal on the road this weekend. Like, I don't know, man,
is this team gonna win the AEC Championship?
Speaker 2 (27:28):
What's about to happen here?
Speaker 12 (27:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Listen, man, I'm done with predicting any and every who's
gonna be in Charlotte. Who's winning Charlotte? Because as soon
as I do that, that team loses. So I don't
want to curse the Who's I don't want to curse
UVA here and say that, because as soon as I do,
you're gonna lose the wake Forest who just got embarrassed
by Florida State, who just.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
Beat somehow SMU.
Speaker 6 (27:48):
So that's the craziness. Coastal Chaos is so is very
alive and well right now in the ACC. It's just
overtaking the entire league. But I will say this, We're
headed to Charlottesville this weekend the ACC huddle. I cannot
wait to be there. I love my brother, coach Elliott
and the things he's doing, just to see, you know,
old Morris back there, slinging that rock around. Man Chandler's
(28:09):
look great and they're finding a way that they finally,
you know, there was a run there for two or
three games where they were trying everything they could to
lose a game. They finally, you know, were playing some
complimentary football, running the ball very well, not turning it over,
and that defense was a lecture. Got a bunch of turnovers,
sat game winning pick six. I mean that was sweet.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
You tried a couple of weeks ago to sell me
on your ACC network colleague Jimbo Fisher to Blacksburg. I
don't think that's where this is trending, but I do
see him being his name being involved in what is
now amounting to many many openings across the sport. Who's
most likely to pluck Jimbo off your ACC network set?
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Yeah, that's y'all's damn Faull for not hurrying up and
signing the deal. You could have got it done. But
I think you're getting James Franklin, which I honestly I
am ecstatic about it. I'll let you, you know, kind
of touch on that in a second. But there's a
lot of Openingsvan, and I think there's many more coming.
And you know, the interesting thing to me is are
there that many super high quality head coaches out there
(29:09):
that you feel really good about.
Speaker 11 (29:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Other jobs opening, so I for sure. I mean, Jim
Bow's going somewhere, and I think he's great, and I
think he's gonna have a really fun comeback story. I mean,
look at his quarterbacks and what they're doing across college
football right now with Wegman at Houston, with obviously the
guy that is there now and Marcel Reid and of
course with Haines King. I mean, those guys are balling.
(29:34):
You're talking about a couple of Heisman candidates. So he clearly,
you know, does what he does best. If he can
just keep him healthy, that'll be the biggest thing. And
when he gets back in this man, it's gonna.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
Be really fun.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
But opening's galore. It doesn't make sense how or why
it happens or when it happens. But hey, we're gonna
have a bunch of new faces a lot of different places.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
All right, buddy, listen, I appreciate you always look forward
to these conversations. I know it's a tough time for
you right now. We're going to get through it together. Man,
we'll talk to him next Monday.
Speaker 6 (30:01):
My man appreciates you. Always.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Better have a great show, eMac back on a Monday.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Eric McClain, former Clemson offensive lineman, ACC network analyst and
just a monster in the weight room. I mean, if
you don't follow him, the guy just wrapped up squat sober.
He's a big, strong fellow. No, that guy's just a
monster period. Like TV does not do his size justice. No,
when we see him at ACC media days, it's just reminded.
Speaker 7 (30:23):
I'm like that guy could split my spine in half
right now? Easy, Well, like you, no, I just let's
just not. Let's just let's just not kind of like
Bane did the Batman.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Okay, we'll go with that seven o four five seven
ninety six day.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
Why'd you have to take it the wrong way?
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Because I don't trust you these days.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
You've hit me with some questionable stuff and I'm really
just trying to keep you out of trouble right now.
So I just didn't know where you were going. Plus,
your your cousin's a jack Man for Kyle Larson, and
you know that.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Turned into a car champion NASCAR chap.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
I'm sorry, but you know your cousin Jack's for Kyle
Larson and they won a title over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
So anyway, let's go to smoke on the headlines.
Speaker 7 (31:06):
I was gonna say Jack for Chase Elliotty, Jack for
Kin s Trader, Jack, Kurt Busch, he Drackted just read
read news. My bad, I got carried away. Okay, see
you're right.
Speaker 8 (31:16):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (31:16):
Anyway, this report is brought to you by Neogenics. It's
a Neogenics college football injury report where all you have
to lose is the pain. Biggest news, unfortunately comes from
the Big Ten. This is a nasty injury here. Dylan
Ryola during the big game for Nebraska against usc uh
left the game and now we know how bad it is,
(31:37):
broken fibula.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
He is done for the year.
Speaker 7 (31:41):
Nebraska add insult to the injury, Kyle Nebraska lost the
game and Matt rules Now, oh for still against rank
the pollant center in the top twenty three.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Oh yeah, but at least he just had Kelvin Jimstone
on his podcast.
Speaker 12 (31:55):
Soy and I just got a contract extension.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
Fakes to my alma minor. You show it some interests,
you know, just very happy.
Speaker 12 (32:05):
But you know, all you Nebraska fans, just remember he
took jay Z. Took jay Z seven years to start
his own record label company early in your three here
in Lincoln.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
All right, let's go to break.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
We got it.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
Just let's just go to break. We'll come back, we'll
tell you who balled out. We'll take phone calls the
rest of the way. We are wide open. We get
back to talking Panthers and Packers, and yes, the Hornets
won last night too. We still have to talk about
the greatest World Series of my lifetime. But your phone
calls when we come back. Sports Radio ninety two seven

Speaker 5 (32:42):
City get on your beat.
Speaker 7 (32:48):
Hello, good protection, throw for the years.

Can you go to the box?
Speaker 5 (32:55):
He's got coming on it?
Speaker 7 (33:00):
Back to Marsh running into the area, it'll pass towards.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
It's time for who balled out? Powered by High Performance
Real Estate Advisors and the biggest dad gumballer of them all,

Speaker 6 (33:23):

Speaker 4 (33:23):
Go to high Performance real Estate dot Com and they'll
see you at the closing table.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Smoke would you bring for the people?
Speaker 5 (33:28):
We gotta go.
Speaker 7 (33:28):
Kyle Larson winning his second Cup Series championship, only the
third driver at Hendrick could win multiple championships. He now
joins Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon, and he also had
a great jack man and Eric Ludwig doing a great job.
Let's cat held that big two tire pit stop and
also Charlotte FC balled out to continue to stay alive
and force the game free against ny CFC, specifically Christian
(33:52):
Kalina with this massive stop in penalties bottom of round.
Speaker 14 (33:56):
Number eight, agustein oh Hata. He's never taken a penalty
in his career, twenty one year old Argentine right footed,
take to the gold Water, left oh Hey to approach us.
Speaker 6 (34:12):
He takes Si Calena, Save Helena, the crowd, launch the Charlotte,
the crowd.
Speaker 14 (34:18):
That's Sudsys to Friday.
Speaker 7 (34:22):
As he said, Game three will be on Friday, and
starting tomorrow, we'll have some tickets to give away to
that all in game on Friday.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
All right, mine's easy. It goes to one of my
new favorite names to say. Well, actually forever now, it
was already one of my favorite names to say. Now,
it's just one of my favorite names of all time.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto World Series MVP recorded three wins in the
series games two, six, and seven, a rare feat to say,
the least complete game in Game two, six innings in
(34:51):
game six, and came right back the next night in
Game seven, where almost no one thought we'd see him
for any reason, and on short rest through two and
two thirds scoreless innings, os the clincher in the series
and a low eer limited hits, struck out fifteen batters
in seventeen and two thirds innings. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the
best picture on the planet according to show Heyo Tani
(35:14):
and I'm not really all that inclined to argue Yoshinobu
Yamamoto balling out and a quick honorable mention to my wife,
who I mean knocked my kids Halloween park or Halloween
costumes out of the park on Friday night. I've gotten
some texts about that. My kids. We took it back
to the nineties with some nineties country music legends Ribem McIntyre,
Dolly Parton, and Alan Jackson, and they much like the Panthers,
(35:37):
we went into a different neighborhood, into visiting territory and
came out with a win as the best Halloween costumes
of the night. So I appreciate the listeners who are
sending that in today. I was responsible for one of
the signs. My wife did everything else like that was
My only contribution to the group project was an idea
for one of the signs. She pulled off the rest
and if you want to see it, go to at
Kyle Bailey Club on Instagram. My kids Crushed Halloween. If
(36:00):
that's the kind of thing you're into, go check it out.
Seven O four five seven ninety six ten. Let's take
some phone calls Carolina. Jay is up first here at
the end of the four o'clock hour. Jay, what's going on, buddy?
Thank you for holding hey, man.
Speaker 15 (36:12):
I appreciate you, guys. Man, hey, just proud of my Panthers.
Speaker 6 (36:15):
Man.
Speaker 15 (36:16):
In the words of ghetto boys, this year Halloween felt
on the weekend, Carolina Panthers went trick and treating.
Speaker 9 (36:23):
I will tell you.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
This, man, I called it.
Speaker 15 (36:25):
I had some packer family friends I call them Sunday morning.
I told them it's a trap game. I told them
that we were going to get them. What I love, man,
is I got to see old Panther football, true Panther
identity football, where we're grounding and pounding, we got the
pass coming coming in between.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
And what I will say is something that got me
real fire up.
Speaker 11 (36:46):
Guys.
Speaker 9 (36:47):
At halftime.
Speaker 15 (36:47):
I don't know if you guys can find this clip,
but Julie Edelman they were talking about.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
The playing with his food, playing with their food.
Speaker 15 (36:55):
Oh yeah, man, man, they got me rapped up, man.
And then straight straight hand came back and said, all right,
you probably get a fit from it by the food.
And that's exactly what happened in the last thing, guys,
And that fourth for the men. I don't know what
you guys saw it, but I saw a pos this
man named Derek Brown just getting it done, just getting
it done. And I'm telling you, batman is the anchor
(37:18):
of our defense. He's the anchor of our team, and
we're gonna go as he goes. I picked the rest
off the egg.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Absolutely, No. I appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (37:24):
Man.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Every night when I when i'd say a prayer and
you know, get ready for bed, I'm throwing in an
extra prayer the Derek Brown stays healthy the rest of
the year.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
Dude, man.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
And I know it was a positive play for Green Bay,
but I have never seen someone get yeaded like Aaron
Banks got yeaded on pass pro against Derek Brown.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
As Ryan Baldingers highlighted that again today on his on
his Baldy's breakdowns. Is Derek Brown Frisbee toss of the week?
You mean Derek Brown's number one fan? Yes, yes, no.
I say an extra prayer to the Good Lord every
night that he protects Derek Brown's knees and his ankles
and his elbows and his shoulders and his biceps the
rest of the way because he is the heart and
soul of this Panthers defense, and he played like a
(38:00):
man possessed again yesterday. And that's the thing again, Like
they got their doors blown off by Buffalo last week.
It was a perfect storm of bad conditions. Derek Brown.
You know, we talked about it. Maybe the game plan,
his alignment was not ideal. There are lots of things
that went wrong, but for them to bounce back the
way they did against that offense on the road, and
he spearheaded much of that effort. And you give credit
all the way across the board to guys like Trayvon
(38:22):
Merrick to try to Christian Roseboom, who led the team
in tackles, Trevin Wallace had a career high in tackles,
Nick Scortz and playing with a relentless motor again, all
that stuff, But Derek Brown is the physical and spiritual
leader of that defense and I just again pray that
he stays healthy the rest of the year because he
is playing like one of, if not the best defensive
tackles in football. Charlotte Bourne, GJ is up next, GJ.
(38:45):
What's going on?
Speaker 16 (38:45):
Buddy hey kb hey man. First off, and this is
more of a tie, but the Panthers have found themselves
a kicker, dud. I really I can't underscore that enough.
Speaker 8 (38:55):
It's hard for me.
Speaker 16 (38:56):
To imagine that Fitzy isn't the kicker for this organization
for the next six to seven years. And we've been
looking for that for a long time now, and that's
really really huge for our team. But more of the meat,
meat and potatoes.
Speaker 8 (39:08):
Here's what I wanted to say.
Speaker 16 (39:09):
I felt going into the Buffalo game that if the
Panthers could get one of the next two wins. I
think we all knew they wouldn't get both realistically speaking,
but I felt that if they could get one win
that it would be franchise shifting for them, or potentially
franchise shifting. I'd be lying to you if I said
I felt strongly that they would win the Green Bay game.
But I did feel that they were to a big
(39:31):
road win because in this league you can only keep
teams down for so long. It kind of felt like
we owed Green Bay one two, So I'll throw that
in there. The best part about yesterday for me is
to see the narrative about this team shifting. Though It's
like it's kind of like hitting a team in the
mouth and their fan base is going I didn't know
they were allowed to hit anyone in the mouth.
Speaker 8 (39:52):
Where did this come from?
Speaker 16 (39:53):
Yeah, because you guys have been listening to these false
narratives that Carolina is the worst American organization sports.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
And although it hasn't been good, I readily.
Speaker 16 (40:02):
Admit that the numbers just don't bear that out. And KB,
I can't believe here in November, there's an actual pass
for this team for a ten win season. None of
us thought that was possible after starting zero and two.
They may fall shore, that may it maybe nine wins.
I mean that's that's probably more realistic, but there is
an actual ten win designation that's possible for them. So
(40:25):
kudos to Dan Morgan and Canalis and then boys. I'm
proud of them.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Man, love the phone call.
Speaker 6 (40:29):
GJ.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
Thank you man. You said a lot of good stuff
right there. I'll let it stand. We'll come back our
number three. Jonathan and Michael are up first. When we
come back, we're taking your phone calls. We'll get back
to what we said at the top of the show.
It was a great performance, a massive I mean, that
was the sign that you're win of the Dave Canalis era,
replacing the Cowboys. Win at home a couple of weeks ago,
you go to Green Bay and win. In that situation,
(40:50):
go to five and four. I mean, never mind what's
ahead on the schedule. That's a that's a huge win
for Dave Canalis in this organization. We'll get back to it.
We'll take your phone calls. On the other sides, it's
Radio ninety two seven w F and Z
